Note Analysis: Leather

It seems to me that categorizing a note as one you love simply isn't enough. Beth and the lab are masters of their art and quite often the qualities of a note within a range of scents can differ greatly. So I plan on breaking down each note that I love and figuring out where it works, and where it doesn't, as well as blends I still want to try.   Leather- my love of the scent of leather started when I began working with horses. The scent of leather, hay, and horse was one of my favorites when I was riding in high school. Leather took on a new meaning when I picked up a new hobby a few years ago after college- leathercrafting. A freshly unrolled hide of veggie tan leather has a simply wonderful scent, but it's an elusive one that doesn't last long and is hard to match in perfume.   The Lab's leather notes: Seem to be split into at least two qualities. One is more of a 'leather jacket' soft suede feel. The other is supposedly more raw though I haven't found that one yet. Of the various leather notes, I tried most of the commonly recommended ones that weren't super hard to get hold of. I have yet to find that elusive veggie-tan quality in any of them- in fact it took me comparing Crowley and Black Rider to finally realize that one of the prominent notes WAS the leather since it seemed much more soft and cologne-y then what I was expecting.   My favorite blends with leather in them thus far: Bensiabel, Bow & Crown, CC: Female, Crowley. Black Rider is nice but I feel it's a simplified version of Crowley.   Blends that I liked but the leather wasn't prominent: Marquis de Carabas, Western D, VILF   Blends that were horrible on me: Black Tower, Highwayman, Tintagel, U.   Blends that I still REALLY want to try: De Sade, Dead Man's Hand, Dee, Hand of Glory, Liz, The Red Rider.   *- Signifies ones I tried.   Lab's leather blends: (GC) Antony*, Bensiabel*, The Black Rider*, Black Tower*, Bow & Crown of Conquest*, Calico Jack, Casanova*, Dee, Dragon's Hide*, Havana, Hellfire, High Priest Not To Be Described, Highwayman*, Iago, Jolly Roger*, Kubla Khan*, Les Infortunes de la Vertu, Manhattan, Mary Read, Perversion, The Red Rider, The Robotic Scarab, Tezcatlipoca, Tintagel*, Wanda*, Whip, The White Rider*   (LE) A Bachelor's Dog, The Blockhead, The Bloody Sword, The Blood Garden, Boadicea, Brom Bones; The Buggre Alle This Bible,De Sade, Dead Man's Hand, Det. Patrick Gleason, C. Auguste Dupin, Count Dracula, CC: Female*, CC:Male*, Crowley*, Doc Constantine*, Eau De Ghoul, Enkhespalos*, Erik, Geek, Hand of Glory, The Head of Holofernes, Hearth 2004, Herr Drosselmeyer 2005/06, His Station and Four Aces, Hua Mulan, I Married a Vampire from Planet X, Krampus 2006/07, King of Clubs, Kroenen, Le Père Fouettard, Les Anges Dechus (II), Liz, Lord Ruthven, Loviatar, Macbeth and the Witches (III), The Marquis de Carabas*, Monsieur Petitbled's Frivolous Wheeled Footwear, Mutant Hot-Rodders from Hell High, The Nameless City Drive-In Theatre, Nanny Ashtoreth, Olisbos, Pirate Moon, Poe, Prosperity of a Country, Pumpkin II (2008), Quincey Morris, The Rat Speakers*, Rivet Goth, Sacrifice, The Sailor's Den (II), Sara Pezzini, Severin, The Shattered Pumpkin, Shrunken Heads, Sitting up with a Sick Friend, Spanked, Story Time at Dark Delicacies, Torture King, The Traveller*, Trick #1, Two Monsters (I), Ü*, Vilf*, Violens, Volt, Western Diamondback*, 413 U.S. 15 / Miller Vs California

Switch Witch Help

Basic Info Birthday: May 24, 1980 Pets: 2 cats, Cleo and Atticus Children: 0 Religious orientation: agnostic/non-believer/non-belieber Favorite Holiday: Halloween! Occupation/Major in school: retail management Living arrangement (by yourself, with roommates, etc): live alone Livejournal/Blog/Website:   http://templeandarche.tumblr.com   http://instagram.com/templeandarche   http://archiveofouro...ds/sarandipitee (my fanfic)     Organizations/Causes/Activities (Things you belong to or causes you believe in): basic everyday belief system revolves around equality for everyone regardless of race, orientation, gender, etc. Animal rights and protection agencies like Fixed Fur Life, The Paw Project and the Humane Society. Cancer, Parkinson's and heart disease research/care and treatment charities since I love people who suffer with/have died from those afflictions. Traumatic Brain Injury awareness and prevention, research etc as the boy has post concussion syndrome. TL;DR let's not be dicks to each other and not kill off our planet and all of its species in the process.   BPAL Favorite BPAL oils: elf v4, Tombeur, Beaver Moon 2011, Sin, Chimera, Unfortunate Shopping Cart, Black Lace, Snake Charmer (orig), Snake Oil, Tintagel, Dorian, Baku, goblin, the Light of Men's Lives, mysterious warning.   Favorite notes: lavender, vanilla, myrrh, resins, frankincense, blackberry, currant, berries, wine, chocolate, black musk, pretty much all musk, patchouli, blood and some woods.   Favorite non-BPAL perfumes: I like Haunt Winchester, some of the Violette Market and Nokturnal Alchemy scents I've tried have been nice, but I haven't looked much outside BPAL. Ralph Lauren Romance is on old fave.   Least favorite notes: ROSE. JASMINE. MAGNOLIA. CARNATION. Basically, really heady florals are awful and headache inducing. Even violet, geranium, etc don't really work. I love vanilla but the super foodie ones are plastic (oh hai there Snow White, boo, midway, etc). Aquatics are pretty much migraine territory along with ozones (ambergris is nice in the background) and snow is iffy (so far yellow snowballs is the only one to work on me).   Least favorite non-BPAL perfumes: anything currently hawked by kardashians or other pop stars of the moment that stink like fake candy musk. Yuck.   If Beth made a custom blend for you, what would the notes be, and what would you want the label art to look like? It would smell of lavender buds, blackberry, sweet beeswax with myrrh and vanilla mixed in. Label art would be my slinky black cat Atticus, a well loved book and my down blanket.   Lifestyle Style/home decoration style: thrift shop/bohemian mixed in with the odd quality antique piece. I'm a lover of modern design in kitchens only, I really like living rooms to have an old, worn in feel (lots of wood, lots of books, lots of pillows). Its that good.   wine, coke, coffee (all kinds of coffee - blond to dark roasts), pumpkin spiced lattes, matcha from teavana, chai anything.   Favorite authors/genres: Neil Gaiman is my hands down FAV for everything. I love fantasy (urban, futuristic and classic), suspense/horror (I still reread Stephen Kings the Stand yearly), classic children's (Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan), old YA (S.E. Hinton's the Outsiders, Lois Lowry's Number the Stars), new YA (Hunger Games, The Fault in our Stars), Harry Potter for life, yo, and I dunno - I really still enjoy JD Robb's IN death series, Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon and the Kushiel's Chosen series from Jacquline Carey. Gimme all the good comics like Captain Marvel form Kelly Sue DeConnick, her Pretty Deadly (I haven't tried the BPAL oils yet, but if you have - read the book, its AMAZING), Hawkeye from her hubby Matt Fraction, Saga by Brian K. Vaughan, Lumber Janes - ack, I could go on forever.   Least favorite authors/genres: Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey. Anything that falls into similar realms, I'm out.   Books/authors you'd like to read, but haven't yet: I'm kind out of the loop - I have a ton of new stuff downloaded to my iPad like Gone Girl, Annihilation, Fangirl, Game of Thrones series, etc that I haven't had time to read yet. I'm a huge lover of fiction though, dear witch, I'll try to read anything. Seriously. OH! Vonnegut, always wanted to try his stuff.   How do you feel about receiving gently used books as gifts? Hells yeah!   Favorite stores (including clothing stores): I'm in Canada, pretty small town and I work for a clothing store so it's hard to pick a store that might be available where you are Switchee. Let's go with some basics, I guess - Winners (Marshall's/TJ maxx in the US, I think) as I love good prices and different stuff, Urban Outfitters, Hot Topic (for all my geeky Marvel/comic clothing and accessories), the Disney Store, HMV, Lush, Bath and Body Works, Victoria Secret, Lulu Lemon, H&M.   Favorite online stores (including B&B stores): lush, sephora, blackmilk clothing, bpal, etsy, RIPTapparel, teefury, villainess. I like to sketch and I like using markers and watercolour pencils but I'm nothing special. Still trying to teach myself to knit after 4 yrs. I which I had more time to be crafty. I do write and I love to sing.   Clothing & Jewelry Hair type: long, fine and straight. Lots of it. Basic brown. Skin Type: Pale, dry, sensitive Allergies (specifically B&B related): sometimes perfume oils with cinnamon can burn but its really only after applying immediately after showering. I am prone to breakouts so I'm pretty fussy about what I use on my face, but body stuff I don't have any specific allergies/issues. Other things to avoid: see above Tub, shower or both? BOTH. I love them equally. I would shower/bath five times a day if it wasn't such an awful waste of water. Favorite bath & beauty products: LUSH bath bombs and shower jellies and soaps. Villianess soaps and smacks. Paintbox soapworks (the queen is dead!) Clothing Style/Fave garments: Huge love of tights lately (hello black milk) and longer tees and hoodies and sweaters. Ring/wrist/collar size: rings I wear on any finger so 7-9 is fine. I have small wrists and I like chains at least 17". Jewelry - gold or silver? either! I wear both. Do you have any allergies to metal? Yes. I wear costume stuff but it does make me break out in rashes or turns my skin green/black. I don't mind, only wear it for a few hours. Nose stuff however, super sensitive. Only gold or titanium - everything else causes major infection. Favorite gemstones: anything. really. Love raw gems and super expensive stuff. Sock/Shoe Size: 9 Random Questions: Random Questions: - On a scale of 1-5, how organized are you? Depends on the day. Good days 5. Bad days a 2.   - Where, outside of the U.S. would you love to visit? (if you're international, this can be anywhere) Ireland, Italy, Australia, Thailand, Hawaii, St Marten, Iceland, ack, so many places, I love to travel   -Where, inside of the U.S. would you love to visit? Hmm. I've been lucky to do some travel in the US. I think I'd like to see Arizona or Texas... but then Montana looks beautiful... and, I mean, Alaska - wow, looks stunning! For cities, I really want to see Boston, New Orleans, Savannah.   -Favorite City in the US/World? London, England   - Do people tell you that you act older, younger, or your age? A combination of all 3.   -If I gave you a toy gun with flashing lights, would you hide and start shooting people from around corners OR would you thank me on the IGI thread and then quietly donate it (a niece, Oxfam, Goodwill, wherever)? (there are no wrong answers for this, so don't be afraid to answer honestly)   I'd do my best Chris Pratt imitation (pew pew pew!) and then probably donate it to a local charity so a child could enjoy it.   - What animal do you feel like the most? I am such a cat.   - Your favorite feature about yourself: Mouth. And my laugh.   - Do you live in a neighborhood or in the middle of nowhere? Small urban center in the middle of nowhere.     -Have you ever thought, "oh, I'm going to get myself one of those one of these days" but then never do? List 1 under $10 and 1 over $10. Under $10 - mocha/crazy/whipped/ twenty named drink from Starbucks (I order 2 things only from that place since its so MUCH, price and ordering wise - pumpkin and chai lattes) Over $10 - decent mascara (a la Dior or other obnoxiously priced designer lash extender)   - How do you feel about boi witches? Good? Boi or gurl don't matter.   - Do you like garage sales (boot sales)? Yes! I also love thrift shopping.   - I like to slather my food in :   Every once in a blue moon I need blue cheese dressing.   - State fairs or carnivals? Neither. We have the CNE in Toronto (which is 2.5 hrs away) or local town fairs, but... meh.   - You throw caution to the wind and runaway to join a traveling circus. What job would you want ( a main performer, a side show, a behind the scenes spot, etc) and why?   I'd want to be the announcer/ring leader. Top hat and tails are always classic.   - What mythical or fantastic race of creatures (dragons, unicorns, griffins, elves, dwarves, faeries, etc.) do you most identify with?   I'm a total bad ass elf maiden. Or, ice queen vampire. You decide.   - Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. What do you choose?   Bottle of bpal, my first ring from my guy from our first Christmas together, my galaxy s5, pics of my furbrats, my work name tag.   - Do you need storage boxes/bottles/containers? Decorated or Plain? I only really could use an ammo box for imps since I just participated in the bpal holder swap.   - The world has given you the day off. You hear that, no chores, responsibilities, or budget you have to follow. What would you do in those 24 hours?   Honestly, my best days ever are the ones spent lounging in bed with my guy, eating ice cream and watching bad movies on netlix. Or chilly autumn evenings with blankets, a book and my cats. I'm really low key.   - Do you like steampunk & if so what kind of steampunk item would you most like to receive? I think Steampunk is really cool but I have no real knowledge about it. Anything would be neat I guess!   - Do you have an etsy shop? nope   - Would you like to receive baked goods, if so what kind? Maybe something that would survive Canada Post. Homemade candy? I dunno.   - What is something totally random (yes, that thing that just popped into your head) that hasn't been covered by any previous questions? Who wears short shorts? (yes that really just popped into my head. it's late and I'm to be up for work in 5 hrs).   2. I currently have a CSA and my significant other is perpetually out of town for work, so I've been doing a lot of canning and baking with my vegetables. How do people feel about canned good (pickles, salsa, etc) and vegetal baked goods (squash bread, zucchini bread). I make pickles and my mother jars everything else under the sun (srsly, I'm still trying to finish off her peach mango salsa from last year) so I'm going to say no, UNLESS it's jam. Then you can mail me all the raspberry/strawberry/rhubarb/blueberry fruitastic goodness. As for baking - if you think it can survive the journey to Canada (and Canada Post) I's any kind of bread is a plus.   3. Trading Post wants? ALL THE HAIR GLOSS. That stuff is amazing. I'm really into trying any amount of Snake Oil hair gloss or bath oil. I've never tried the BPTP soap before so that would be cool. I love goblin squirts for atmosphere sprays and my current loves are: erebos (huge insomniac here), exotic bazaar, and unspeakably evil temple. But I'm game to try anything. Bath oil samples would also be most welcome. Tissue tees are lovely. Or you can browse the Wishlist I made for family and boy: http://blackphoenixt...list/?wlid=4265 5. How about y'alls coffee and tea preferences? I LOVE coffee. I have a tassimo and would happily take t-discs for it. I enjoy tea as well but refer loose leaf stuff like teavana. 6. Do you cook? Would kitchen accessories make you happy? Kitchen gadgets are AWESOME. I love to cook (loathe baking though). Recipes are awesome! Send me your favs! 7. How do people feel about creative endeavours? Would you like to receive one? Or supplies to make your own? What do you like? Drawings, stories, poems? I love artwork, drawings, paintings, homemade comics etc - it's all good. I love to write and I play around with sketching/painting.   8. What culture or country (doesn’t have to be modern) do you feel an innate connection with? What about it makes it special to you? I'm Canadian, so my country's quite young in comparison to many others out there, so I tend to love reading/discovering about ancient times. Really no personal preference to the country itself, but when you can enter the ruins of say a temple that was built thousands of years ago - that fascinates me. Ancient China or Egypt or Rome or whatever.   9. Is there any sort of art commission you would like: cartoony, pin-up, fantasy, realistic, etc? If so, what subject would you like drawn (a picture of you, a character, a loved one or pet)? I would love to have someone tackle my favourite Comic Book characters. My guy painted me an amazing Wonder Women, but she's lonely looking on my wall. I adore Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), Jenny Sparks, Emma Frost, The Bat Villains (Harley and Mr. J especially), Death, Dream and Delerium from Sandman, Constantine...   10. What do you find yourself doing for fun in your free time? What are your main hobbies and interests? Reading, writing, movies, traveling, eating out, good conversation with great friends, wine.   11. Table-top gaming? If yes, what kind, edition, etc? Gaming accessories you long for? Nope.   12. DVD movies or games that you wish would magically appear in your hands? Can they be used, through Amazon? I own hundreds of dvds and blurays and tv box sets. I have a slight addiction. I can't really think of anything off the top of my head that I MUST have right now.   13. What kind of snacks or candy from other countries/states would you like to try? I love funky chocolate bars, penny candies, mints (there was this AMAZING kind of mints that I received from ReallyZeb I think in a candy swap that I still need to try and locate more off), licorice, tim tams, etc. (If any SW is looking for some Canadian Candy - ketchup seasoning for popcorn/chips, maple candies, laura secord, etc let me know!) 14. Do you have a favorite internet meme, character or pop culture fandom? I LOVE all things pop culture but tend to avoid fandom since it can be a scary place. I do have in my letter all my fav shows/movies/books/comics/things I flail over.   15. Do you have a Facebook profile (or other social media) that you are comfortable linking to aid your witch in stalking? Please note whether you are willing to add BPALers as friends. I've updated all that info into the google spreadsheet listed in the mod's signature, feel free to add me on anything. Notes (Here's where you can add additional information you'd like your Switch Witch to know!):     16. Anybody interested in something from RCCC, whether it's con-exclusive merch or from a particularexhibitor or artist? I'll have to take a look, but if it's anything to do with any of the comics I squeed about in my survey OR anything from Kelly Sue or Matt Fraction, I'm so there. 17. How important to you is regular contact / chatter with your witch? basically, whatever my Witch is comfortable with is fine with me. I love being emailed and snail mailed and trick mailed by nacho witches and all that jazz but if you're more laid back, or shy, or not into it - don't worry dear witch. That's cool with me.   18. Do you like puzzles/riddles/treasure hunts and that sort of thing? I love puzzle video games like Professor Layton or escape from the locked room thing. I don't like actual puzzles though. Treasure hunts are awesome!   19. If you were to receive music, would you want a physical CD or digital versions? Digital, as I have no cd player and my laptop doesn't have an optical drive.   20. What’s a current problem/annoyance you have that could be remedied but you haven’t had time to address it? Hmm... a million dollars? There's not anything I can think of right now. Will come back if I do.   21. How do you feel about having some sort of trinket to carry around for good luck/wishes? i.e. a small figurine, symbol, card, coin… Sure! I love gems tones, cool coins, etc.   22. Are you superstitious about anything? Any things you can't have in your house for that reason--bad associations? Nope, nothing.   23. For the vegetarians and vegans: How do you feel about things (say, marshmallows or gummy candy) made with vegan gelatin or other typically-animal-derived-but-not-in-this-instance products? n/a 24. Ok, so we've covered pumpkin. How do you feel about the other fall classic – apples? I love apples in food and in smells! Just not perfume - so far. It usually ends up like potpourri/yankee candle on me. I haven't found an apple dominant blend I love yet.   25. Do you have any fabric or skin-contact aversions? It's covered in my questionnaire for skin issues, but fabric-wise wool is a no go for me, I itch like crazy   26. How do you feel about Christmas/Yule ornaments? Sure! I love ornaments. My tree is covered with kitschy and classic - I have the old handcrafted wooden ones, and stuff like James Dean and Dracula. I'm not one who has to have her tree follow a theme or match a decor. 27. How do you feel about Hello Kitty, and Hello Kitty accessories (including mugs, cups, etc)? Not a Hello Kitty fan. At all. Sorry!   28. If you had a week free where you could learn anything, with no financial restrictions, what would you want to study? I'd want to go back in time and be all Indiana Jones and do field archeology in exotic places.   29. Do you enjoy poetry? Who are your favorite poets and what type of subject matter do you like? I do like poetry! I'm kinda all over the place with favourites: Sylvia Plath, Tennyson, Robert Graves, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Robert Browning, Emily Bronte, Walt Whitman, Christina Rosetti, Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine etc. I tend to collect bits and pieces of verse vs entire collections from poets - sometimes it's only one poem or even a line or two.   30. Would you enjoy receiving something related to a favorite Disney character? YUSS. I love Disney. Alice in Wonderland is my fav classic film, the Lion King and Mulan are my favourite Renaissance films, Rapunzel and Wreck-it Ralph are my fav Revival films and Up is my favourite pixar.   31. How do you feel about cute things as decorations or accessories? (Example: Would you enjoy this stationery - or do you prefer elegant/creepy/neutral stuff?) More creepy or elegant. OR creepelegant. 32. What is something you'd really like to recieve from your witch? Please be as specific as possible - no, "Oh whatever she thinks is fine!" I love getting imps from my wishlist, or candy/treats I can't get in Canada or lip balm from etsy stores or handmade soaps or really, ANYTHING.   33. Go to your music source of choice - on random or shuffle setting if possible - & share with us the 10 most recent songs/artists.   1. What Sarah Said - Death Cab for Cutie 2. I Will Love You - Fisher 3. Diamonds and Rust - Ritchie Blackmore 4. Poison Prince - Amy MacDonald 5. Would You Like to Swing on a Star - Frank Sinatra 6. Pennyroyal Tea - nirvana 7. The Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson 8. Forgot About Dre - Dr Dre 9. Ramblin' Man - Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan 10. The Boy is Mine - Monica and Brandy   I love music, all kinds. 34. Tarot cards, rune stones and/or other divination tools yay or nay? I have a Tarot deck that sadly, I've never really taken to. Unsure if it's because I never really loved the art or if I just have no feeling for it. I'm probably more likely to really LOVE a reading. 35. Do you have a Celeb crush? or someone who you just can't get enough of....other than your SO I adore Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Colin Farrell, Chris Pratt and Idris Elba. 36. Glitter? are you okay with it, or hate it like the plague? I like a little bit of glitter, especially in my eye shadows and nail polish.   37. If there was another time period other than now that described your style/aesthetics, what would it be? Not really, I tend to pick little bits of styles from various time periods and work them into my own style.   38. If you had to pick one or two quotes to live by, what would it be and why? There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you. ~ Maya Angelou   You can take the road that takes you to the stars now I can take a road that’ll see me through ~ Nick Drake   39. Do you prefer physical books? CD books? eBooks? If eBooks do you have preferred format, kindle/nook/kobo/PDF/ePub/ect? eAudio? I read a lot on my iPad but I find I still prefer holding a book in my hands - the feel of the paper, the smell, the sound of the pages turning, etc. I still like ebooks though.   40. Smut! Yes or no? If yes, what kink, er, kind? I don't mind smut! Well written for sure. No perferred kinks.   41. Ebooks! Yes or no? For sure!   42. If you were to get a custom bottle from House of Gloi made for you what notes would create your perfect blend? I outlined something similar in my questionnaire but based on HoG's notes I'd pick: beeswax and honey, lavender, vanilla bean and sweet cream. Might help curb my insomnia.   43. If your witch were to take a photograph (or paint or whatever) of something just for you, what would it be? Landscape? Flower? Critter? Something to illustrate a favorite quote? I WOULD LOVE SOMEONE TO CREATE SOMETHING BASED ON THE NICK DRAKE QUOTE I POSTED ABOVE. I've trying FOREVER to figure out how to make a tattoo design inspired by that quote.   44. What is your favorite Halloween animal or other symbol/decoration? Black cat, skulls and jack-o-lanterns.   45. Makeup, especially of the indie variety. Nail polish, nail wraps, eyeshadow, lipstick/gloss, etc. Y/N? Specific preferences (color, finish, product, brand, etc.)? I love geek chic cosmetics! Though, unless you're in Canada don't send me nail polish. It's a prohibited item to mail. I like all eye colours except black or red shadows (I'm paaaallleeee), love gloss of any kind but lipstick is not my friend. 46. How do you feel about profanity and off-color humor? It's what gets me through the day. I think I've probably said fuck more times than any other word. Ever. Sarcasm is therapy for me, as is laughter. Off-colour humour is fine, as long as it's not at the expense of someone else.   47. I make hairsticks...would you like/use them? Sticks fall out of my hair sadly. I have the finest, straightest hair.   48. Does anyone here LARP? If so, what kind of LARP? And what kind of character do you play? Don't LARP. 49. Would you completely freak out if I sent you a chocolate covered scorpion or some other food oddity? This includes things like 'bacon powder' from thinkgeek.com. I hate bugs so maybe nothing like that but the idea of chocolate + bacon is intriguing.   50. This has kind of been covered, but, are you ok with receiving canned jam (from a veteran jammer!) and if so, what flavors would you like and not like? ALL THE JAMS! Raspberry, strawberry+rhubarb, peach, etc. 51. Let's talk nail polish. What colors do you love? Hate? Which brands are you dying to try? Have you ever used indies? Do you like glitter? Any textures to avoid (glitter, sand, etc)? I love OPI, China Glaze and Zoya best. Never used indies (shipping issues, see above) and I love grit and glitter.   52. How do you feel about getting a special Halloween plushie? OH YES! I love me some plushies.   53. I'm in Japan, anything specific you might want from the land of the rising sun? OMFG ANYTHING!! I also LOVE Sailor Moon (hint, hint). 54. Are there any GC scents that you know you love, but for whatever reason, keep putting off buying bottles of? Oh man, I am so bad for that. I missed out on Tintagel for that very reason. Right now I'd say: Haunted, White Rabbit, Crowley and Bordello. 55. I know not everyone likes Lush products, but if you do, which Lush items would you like to get from your Witch? Bath Bombs are my jam, yo. The Wiccy Magic Muscles massage bar is a staple in my home. I also love their foot powder.   56. Is there anywhere (in the US) that you are dying to get away to? Also when would you be able to get away. Would this even be something you were interested in? If so, go look at the Southwest sale for routes and dates and times. Sounds very generous, but I'm heading into the busiest time of my work year and I won't have any time off once we hit Mid october until February of next year.   57. If you are ok with receiving t-shirts, what size are you, do you prefer tissue tees, normal crew tees, babydoll etc? ALL THE TEES! I love Teefury and RIPTapparel. Tissue tees and babydolls preferred over normal crew tees. Large normally unless it runs small than got to XL.   58. THINKGEEK! Who loves it - do you have a wishlist on there?? What are some things you are jonesing for on there for under $20? I don't ever really go to thinkgeek to be honest. https://www.thinkgeek.com/brain/account/wishes.cgi?a=d&wid=82114dc93 59. Zombies, yes or no? Yes! Zombies freak me out. But I still read/watch anything about them.   60. Would you like arm warmers/fingerless gloves? If so, what length? just beyond the wrist, almost to the elbow, full sleeves? I like both! Full sleeves or just past wrist.     61. Do you feel a particular affinity for a specific animal/s? Cats especially. Domestic cats to big cats, I love them all I also love fennec foxes, red foxes and wolves. 62. Anyone have any Paintbox Soapworks loves? OMG YUUSS! I adore the Queen is Dead soap. I've never tried any of tarty's other creations - I would love to try her sorbettos but any kind of soap is good. 63. How would you feel if your witch or a minion of your witch showed up in person at your house with goodies? Thrilled? Annoyed? Completely creeped out? I'm rarely home, and tbh it would be a little strange. Can't leave anything on my doorstep either as I'm in an apartment building and it would get stolen in a heartbeat. 64. Do you have a ravelry account? Tell me about your yarn obsessions. I'm still, STILL trying to teach myself. Witch, you got any secrets to knitting or links to helpful videos please feel free to share. No supplies though, because I've barely touched the yarn I already have. 65. Sock Dreams, yay or nay? You know, I've never even looked at their site. Upon browsing, I do like their footie socks and anklets and midcalves and I'm all about bright colours and funky patterns. Please no knee high or thigh highs though over the knee might work. I really like these. 66. Knitted items like scarves, shawls, dishclothes....yay or nay? Favorite fibers? Favorite colors? SURE! I live for scarves, shawls not so much and I have a ton of dishclothes already. Fibres, merino or softer, non-scratchy yarn. I would love a chocolate brown scarf or something to go with this parka I own or I would love an HP themed scarf (any house but Hufflepuff). I you want to surprise me with a cool design or colour scheme go for it. 67. Is your Amazon WL up-to-date? I actually refuse to shop at amazon after I had a horrible customer service experience there over 2 years ago, so sorry I don't have a WL for that site (not that I would be upset to receive something purchased from there, they have good pricing and free shipping, so I completely get why people love them). I do have my etsy wishlist in my blog and I will be adding somethings to it of all different kinds/prices to help out my Witch for some ideas if they're struggling. 68. If you were to receive handmade caramels, would it matter if they were made with raw cream (unpasteurized)? nope   69. Would you enjoy getting a sampling of quality incense taken from various sources? Are there types of incense you know you don't like? Would you want a burner for loose incense and a few charcoals to get you started with that, or would you rather stick to simpler types? I've only ever experience the cheap ones on a stick that gave me raging headaches so I have no idea if I'd like incense at all. And the boy is smell sensitive so it probably wouldn't get used much, sorry. 70. I know we already had a question about needed kitchen accessories, but what about spices? I love cooking so spice away! All kinds, even kitchen spice staples are welcome/   71. Would you like handmade stationary or cards? How about a quill pen? Sure, handmade stuff is welcome. Quill pen, probably no. 72. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being "gimme that ghost pepper!" and 1 being "oh, that's a bit too much black pepper for me" Where is your heat tolerance? pretty solid 5. I like heat, in average doses.   73. What is your favorite type of Halloween candy? All of it. No joke. Especially though, anything chocolate and peanut butter or kisses (chewy molasses candies, not the hershey chocolate things) or rockets. 74. Do you need or want any cosy footwear, like fluffy slippers, or slipper socks etc? SLIPPERS. I LOVE SLIPPERS. Knitted ones, oversized stuffed animals, whatevers. It's cold where I am. 75. What do you most look forward to each Fall? First and best - the scents in the air. If you've never smelled the air on a crisp morning in northern Ontario - maples leaves, and smoke from chimney's and ack - it's amazing. Secondly, I loathe humidity and where I live, it's lovely in the Summer, except for the awful layer of mugginess you carry with you. Ugh. I much prefer the way the air cools and the breeze picks up and the early Autumn thunderstorms that occur nightly for a few weeks. And well - sights like this are amazing. 76. What gadgets do you use in your everyday life and would you like a cool case for them - with your favourite fandom or artwork or saying? I just got a Galaxy S5 and would love a cool fandom inspired case! 77. Are there any beauty accessories you need or would like? For example make-up brushes, facial brushes or eyelash curlers. I'm useless with a eyelash curler and I have a really good set of brushes, so I'm good thank you. 78. Would you be disappointed to get one big box, or would you prefer a bunch of little ones? And would you be disappointed if your witch actually had it together early and sent it to you sooner than later? I'm good with what ever is good (and affordable) for my witch. Shipping to Canada is not cheap, so you do what works for you, dear Witch. 79. Stores are putting out their halloween PJs and undies! Would you be happy to get any in a package? And if so, what size? For PJ pants, do you like cotton or flannel? PJ PANTS ALL THE WAY. I live in comfy pants. Cotton is great (flannel too hot for me) and I prefer it loose and comfy - L/XL please. 80. Do you like M&Ms? But of course. Peanut and Peanut butter are my faves. Anything but plain really. 81. How about wax melts? No thank you. I have buckets of scentsy I'm not using so I really have no use for wax tarts either. 82. Would you like a subscription for Spotify? We JUST got spotify in Canada (actually it's still not available for everyone, beta site still) so I don't think that would work here yet - but it's a great idea. I love it so far. Kicks songza's ass really. 83. What scents from the Lillith update would you like to try? MY WITCH IS LOVELY AND IS SENDING ME BLUEBERRY PICKING. Hugs friend. 84. Would you be interested in receiving a box of sugar cube skulls? They're really cute but I don't use sugar in my coffee or tea so it would be a waste I'm afraid. 85. Skin care routine? Fave cleanser? Toner? Moisturizer? What about body lotions? Any particular brand or scent? Lip balms? Yay or nay? LIP BALMS. ALL THE TIME. My skin is temperamental, and I've got vats of body butters but I can always use lip balm. Anything from burts bees to Haunt's lip lusts to anything on etsy or if you love a brand and you think I'll dig it please send. I do like more natural things over say, blistex though. 86. Is there anything you would like from Salem MA (mugs, keychains, postcards, etc.or witchy supplies like incense, candles, books)? Ooh, I love magnets for little souvenirs or a candle would be cool. 87. Would you be interested in any of the items in LisaNut's etsy shop? Scarves are always welcome. Love the infinity ones. 88. Spiders (as in cute knit kind) yes or no? Hmm, not really. They squick me. Bugs in general are a no go. 89. Pillows (the mostly decorative type)? I love pillows! Funky throw pillows are always cool. 90. Any kind of bags - big, small, medium, purse, grocery, etc? I have a lot of purses and I'm notorious for my collection of reusable shopping bags, plus my sling pack/back pack/carry on bags are endless, so unless it was something super unique or fandom oriented - probably a no. 91. Is there anything special coming up in your life? I'm going to NYCC! Super stoked about that. 92. Which one scent would you want from each of the following updates: Metamorphosis, Lilith and GC? Meta: hmm, Question Mark looks amazing. GC - I'd have to say White Rabbit or Baku or Chimera ( I seem to have misplaced my bottle, le sigh). 93. Are you interested in anything from NYCC? I'm going to be there, so I'm fine on that front. 94. Would something from the Tokyo Game Show (e.g. postcards, fans) possibly interest you? I'm not sure what that is, but if you think I'd dig it, sure. 95. Would you enjoy any of these couple rings? Or anything from the same store's Halloween collection? I LOVE the Han and Leia ones but my guy doesn't wear rings. Really awesome idea though. I really ADORE the "Something wicked..." and "Something in the wind..." bracelets though. 96. If you imbibe at all ... preference between: wine/beer/cocktails and then glassware and/or bar-ware? cocktail gadgetry? Books on the subject/recipes? would you want sample bottles of local/regional/small batch craft spirits if they were home decanted and labeled? I'm a huge beer/cider/wine lover. I prefer microbreweries or imports and books on mixing are always welcome. I have a lot of gadgetry already though. Pint glasses are always welcome, if you can find affordable shipping. 97. Would you like some chai, lemon, rose water or other flavored sugar cubes? No thank you. 98. Jamberry nail wraps? No thank you, I prefer polish and I ruin it so fast anyway at work, it would be a waste of money. 99. If you had to choose one currently available book (used-but-obtainable counts if you do used) costing $20 or under for your Witch to buy for you, what would it be? OMG - hmm, great question!! How about The Perks of Being a Wallflower since I loved the movie or maybe Sex Criminals Vol 1.   I will update my bpal wishlist (it's in my sig) as soon as possible and here's my etsy.com https://www.etsy.com...ef=favs_index_1 to help show what I like.   If you see baby stuff saved it's not for me as I don't have kids (my bestie is due in October and I'm trying to find gifts).   I will be away in NYC from Oct 6-12 so if you mail something to big for my mail slot at my apartment I won't be able to get it until after I am home (let me know via a mod so I can arrange to have packages held for a few days if you have to send something, or wait until I'm back ) Notes (Here's where you can add additional information you'd like your Switch Witch to know!):   I'm just gonna copy my FB profile:   Constant reader and movie freak. Music lover and hidden poet. Taurus on the cusp of Gemini. Cat person. Shopaholic. Lover of all things shiny. Marshmallow centre covered by hard candy coating. Gypsy. Ninja.   I WILL LOVE EVERYTHING. I PROMISE!! And huge HUGS and THANKS in advance. [

Switch Witch Help - Fall 2010

Hi witch!   I will post answers to SW question and other helpful stuff here. They'll be in reverse order, so you can always see the most recent stuff first and not have to go scrolling for things.     So, who here loves pomegranates? Are the good as a fruit, a flavoring or just a scent? I do like pomegranates, both as a flavor and a scent. I just bought a box of some lovely pomegranate white tea at World Market, in fact. And I discovered at Will Call that I really like Pomegranate II.   How are all the witchees fixed for purses--lunchbags, etc? You can always use more purses. I personally really need a cool tote bag to take out of town when we visit the hubby's parents on weekends, something just the right size for 2-3 days worth of clothes. We have a huge suitcase for long trips, but nothing that really works for just a weekend.   Now, I have a question for you. About notes. Which are your favourite ones? Do you have a kind of "note top ten?" Anything that works particularly well on you? Do you have a perfume category (foody, floral, aquatic, musky) that you favour? And are there any notes you have never tried, but think would work well on you?   Top ten (in no particular order, as that would be extra hard): - Vanilla - Pumpkin - Apple (particularly cidery notes) - Leather - Smoke - Tobacco - Amber - Musk - Old books - Spices   And an extra two because, looking at the notes for my favorite scents, they also tend to be prevalent: - Fig - Booze   Would you like a sugar skull decorated by your witch? Or do you like sugar skull stuff in general? That would be awesome! Love Day of the Dead stuff.   ZOMG, yes!!! I would kill for more Pumpkin Cake Lust and WINCHESTER!!!! It is one of my all-time favorites. I also love anything Golden Pumpkin. /dies   Lentils? Yum. Love them.   If I were to knit a scarf, would you prefer a skinny one, or a wide one? A short one, that when wrapped once around your neck will just tuck under your jacket, or a long one, at least to your waist? The longer & fatter the better.   Don't like scarves? Would a rectangular shawl or triangular shawl be more to your taste? I like shawls too.   Would you like a custom/altered toy either from a seller or from your witch (like My Little Pony, or a Barbie or any particular toy that can be changed?) Sure, that would be fun.   Do you like the candy apple, candy corn or pumpkin spice kisses? Oh my yes. I LOVE the pumpkin spice. Haven't tried candy apple, but they sound good too.   Anne Taintor, anyone? Yes please! I especially love this and these (I have a sort of addiction to post-its).   If you are a tea lover, what are your flavor preferences? Green? Black? Herbal (I know, technically those are NOT teas, but tisanes)? Flavored blacks/greens? I love green, black & white teas. I like them flavored too (I tend to prefer fruity ones over, for example, caramel or something of that nature). I like herbals. I like chai. I don't think I've really tried rooibos.   Are there any particular movies, tv shows or cd's that you've been meaning to buy for years but just never got round to getting? Would you mind a gently used dvd/cd if your witch had it or could get it?? Alias. I loved that show. Gently used would be fine.       So I have a question for y'all in the hope my witchee will answer - is there anything you would like from Conjure Oils general catalogue or the new updates that isn't already on your wishlist? Ooh, I've been meaning to try her stuff. Halloweenie/recent wishes: Glasya Labolas, Incubus, Ol'Scratch, Satanel, Alien Autopsy 2010, Witching Hour 2010, Black Cat Crossed My Path, Guardian Angel (13 freaking vanillas?? )   What is your favourite habitat and climate to live in? How about to visit? (ie. forest, canyons, mountains, by the beach; temperate, tropical...) I prefer cooler climes. I love mountains, forests and the ocean. How do people feel about edible arrangements? www.ediblearrangements.com Not really my thing.   Anyone need address/phone type books? Nah. All my stuff is online.   Do you read/like fantasy? What kind of books or authors do you love? Which one would you like to read? Would you like gifts related to it? Oh yes. My goodreads profile has lots of info on the types of things I like to read. And yes, fantasy gifts would definitely be appreciated. Soaps : do you like them? What brands? What scents? Anything you're dying to try? Yes, soap is love! I love tarty's Paintbox soaps and Arcana too. Villainess Anti-Hero is a fave for the hubby to use. I've been dying to try Lush soap. Did someone ask about incense yet? Would you like some? Yes, I do love incense. What I really need are some of those coals for herbal/powdered incense. Any oddball free things you collect or would want saved for you? Not that I can think of. If you happened to be my Witchee, is there something you'd like from the Arcana Halloween update? I am addicted to Arcana's Sleepy Hollow. It is one of my all-time favorites. I have some perfume, but more soap is always welcome. I also love Kincardine Maiden and want to try Straitjacket, Little Ghoulie, Dia de los Muertos, and Skeleton Key. How many bottles of BPAL do you have? Um. 108 BPAL. 229 total bottles from various etailers.   Is there any exercise program that you're interesting in learning? Meditation, Yoga, Pilates, Belly Dancing, Zumba etc? Or if you do any of these (or anything else sport related) are there any things you need/want? Candles, music, mats, water bottles etc? I'm into yoga, as well as lifting weights and general cardio type stuff. What I really need is something like this (maybe my witch is crafty?).   Who likes hair toys, and if so what kind? I loved hair sticks and other cute things when my hair was longer, but right now it's not long enough to do much of anything with, besides put it up for working out. (Yes, I'm growing it back out.)   Does any art we may send need to be child safe, either in the actually safe sense or the non X rated sense? My SS doesn't live with us, so as someone else said: dangerous and dirty is fine! In the knitted/crocheted things area, would you want wrist warmers, 1/2 gloves, a neck warmer(the kind that pretty much just goes around your neck and maybe fastens instead of being long and loose like a scarf), slippers, or hats? Yes please!   How do you feel about altered/recycled/upcycled items of clothing or accessories? Very cool.   Is there anything you want from the Violette Market update? I'm drooling a bit over Diablo Skull, Marty (Magic Fingers) McVay, Miss Danie Doe, Miss Dixie Hart, Miss Julia Star, Miss Lilly Mae, Raven's Midnight Pumpkin Patch, Glowing Jack O' Lantern, Golden Autumn & Witch's Apple. Some of the others look great too. What an awesome update! Oh my yes. I the pumpkin spice. How do you feel about recipes? What kind of a cook/baker are you? Are you happiest calling for delivery or microwaving a lean cuisine? Or will Food Network be asking you to host their new program? If I send you something home made would you like the reciepe for it? If you are someone who doesn't want baked goods sent, would you like a collection of some of my favorite recipes? How about home made mixes or kits? Kind of like the cookie in a jar thing, where you would need to add the perishable ingredients? For the most part, Ben is the cook around our house, and he is oddly resistant to using recipes (which irks me! they're such a great way to try new stuff!). I have about 4 things that I cook and cook well, when it comes to "real" food. I like baking, tho, and have great recipes for cookies and cheesecake bites. So those sorts of recipes would definitely be welcome, as would a jar of cookie mix or similar.   Are you open to receiving things that are not on your wishlist, maybe something your Witch thinks you might like? Of course!   If you have something on a wishlist that we could craft INSTEAD of buying, though it might not end up identical to the wishlist thing, would it be okay to craft it instead? Obviously we don't want to copy anyone else's design, but if we can replicate the flavour or intent that you like without stepping on toes? For example, you like some simple earrings with moon charms on them. We have moon charms and earring backs, though of course not exactly the same ones. Did I already answer this question? I can't remember. Anyway, that would be lovely.   OK, I know that lots of folks love socks. Do you have a preference of length? Materials? Patterns? I prefer either footie socks (like this) or knee socks.   How do you feel about silly, funny knick-knack, dollar store stuff, stickers, magnets etc? Would you like receiving that kind of stuff or rather not? Sure.   Is there a specific book you've been wanting to get but haven't found the time or the opportunity to? See Amazon and B&N wish lists.   Do you read mangas/watch animes? Which ones? Do you have a particular favorite? Would you like to receive mangas or anything related to them? Yes. I think several are in my questionnaire under favorite movies. If it's not there, I'm also a big fan of Witch Hunter Robin.   How do people feel about word magnets? They're great.   What are you guys going to be aiming for in the Inquisition? Um... I kinda like both.   Is there a TV, movie or literary character that you are a lot alike, or would like to be alike? Not that I can think of at the moment.   Is there anything you need for your kitchen, ie measuring cups, spoons, grater, etc? Measuring spoons would be great. Like so many things, the kitchen spirits tend to snatch them.   Music, DO you prefer Live or Studio? Edited or explicit? When it comes to recorded music, I prefer studio (tho my ultimate preference is to actually hear it live). I hate edited versions.   If you are an animal lover, is there a specific type/breed that you love most? I really love them all, but let me see... I am especially enamored of these cats: Savannahs and Abyssinians. Dog-wise, I love labs & GSDs (for obvious reasons) as well as huskies. Also flowers and plants- If you like flowers/plants, do you have a favorite(s)? I love roses, stargazer lilies and irises.     What interests you from the latest lab update? Nothing from the Dawn update is really calling my name. I think the Halloweenie wishes from BPAL and BPTP are in my wish list.   How do you feel about stationery, like nice pens or notepaper? And if you're in favor, do you prefer classic/contemporary or cutesy stuff? I am in favor, and I like cute stuff.   Would you like homemade preserves (e.g. marinated vegies, pickled onions, chilli jam?) Mmm, yum.   If you've got stuff on your BPAL wishlist, would partial bottles be okay? That would be great.   Would you like something you have to make yourself? Sure.   Say you were my witchee, and I found things on your wishlist that I could totally make. Would you want me to make it? Or would you rather it be purchased for you? Yes! That would be awesome.   Who is your favorite soap etailer? Tarty!   What about vintage decoration items, teacups, etc etc? A bit dangerous with my house full of feline friends.   With regards to your gifts, would you prefer your presents' awesomeness evenly spread out (several packages of pretty terrific things) over the round or a slow build-up of awesomeness (going up from pretty cool things to something super-duper cool at the end) to go out with a bang? Do you have a preference? Whatever works best for my witch is ok with me.   What kind of make-up do you wear? What colors? Is there anything you'd like to try but haven't yet? I wear powdered mineral foundations, blush, top coat. Not always mineral eye stuff tho. Favorite brands: Urban Decay, Bare Escentuals, Makeup Forever. Colors: I usually wear purples/plums/etc. and greens. I am addicted to purple eye liners. I'd love to try Urban Decay's shadows (I've tried a bunch of their other stuff, but no shadow yet, and it looks great) and Aromaleigh stuff.   Any countries you're interested in? I'm especially interested in Egypt and Italy.   Would you enjoy homemade bath products (bath salts, fizzies, etc.) and/or linen sprays? Esp. if scented with some of your favorite BPAL scents? Definitely   If you witch made you something and it didn't come out just right, would you still want it? Yes.   Are you a foodie? Oh dear lord yes. I just got back from a weekend out of the town with the hubby, and it was all about the food tourism.   Any sports fans in the house? What's your favorite sport/team/player? Football! The hubs and I are fans of Georgia (my school), Florida State (his school), Virginia Tech (where his dad works), the Saints & the Panthers.   For holidays, do you decorate? Would you like decorative stuff, weenie or otherwise? If so, do you lean towards the elegant, the crafty/folksy, or the more, erm, campy? Yes! I tend toward the cute. For fall, I decorate for the season as well as for Halloween. I love things like pumpkins, hay, foddershocks, etc. for fall, and all many of both cute and creepy things for Halloween. I just got a really cute haunted house flag thing-o to stick on my porch.   Do you like journals/notebooks/sketchbooks? Yes.   Cake truffles? Yes!   Are you interested in mini bottles(under 100ml for hand luggage) of bath and body products? I have plenty of those actually, thanks.   Vampire shows, literature, etc? Yay or nay? Yay! I also love werewolves.   If you play console video games, what game systems do you have and what games would you love to have? I have a PS3, and I love RPGs and fantasy-type games. I hate FPS.   How do you all feel about flowers and plants? Flower and plant seeds? Drawings of flowers or plants? Pressed flowers? Yay!   How do you feel about marzipan? I am not a fan.   If you could have 3 BPAL bottles fall (gently) out of the sky right this second that you've been looking for or pining for - which 3 would they be? Pumpkin Latte, Marshmallow Pumpkin & Slaugh.   Are there any international treats that you love and have a hard time finding? Most of the international treats I love are things I can pretty much find. However, I could really use some lovely new chopsticks. Most of mine are getting lost/broken/etc. because they're getting old.   Is there anything from the 'Ween BPTP update that you would like but haven't ordered for yourself?   If you are a crafter, would you like to receive supplies from your witch (beads, fabric, yarn/roving etc?) Yes.   If you could see one concert right now, who would it be? Interpol   Would you like a bag of dried Honeycrisp apples? Yes please! I would absolutely love that.   Steampunk? Love it! I also make Steampunk inspired jewelry.   If you were to receive a knitted item (such as a scarf, hat, etc), what colors would you like? And do you have any sensitivies/allergies to any materials? My favorite colors are purple, green, black, grey, deep reds, and more generally, jewel tones. I am sensitive to non-natural fibers (some of them actually make my skin break out; yeah, I know, it's weird) and prefer natural ones.   If I were to send you a gift certificate for something would you rather get a physical gift certificate in the mail? Or would you prefer an electronic one that you can use right away? Um, I do enjoy the instant gratification.   Favorite Yankee Candles? Or other brands scents? I like foodie scents, like pumpkin things, cake things, etc. (see favorite scents in questionnaire). I don't like floral candles.   Glow in the dark radishes? Cute!   Which brings me to a question: would you like a zuni animal fetish? And if so, what animal? Yes I would. Either Owl or Squirrel.   What places to do you visit that you'd like a gift card to? Barnes & Noble, Amazon, Sephora, Lush, and ThinkGeek are probably my favorites.   Cake or Frosting? Cake. Unless the frosting is really good, I often scrape it off (e.g., just sugar with some food coloring? blech! homemade cream cheese frosting? yum!).   What animal would your daemon be? A cat   Will you be going out of town during the round, or is there any other time during the round when it would not be ideal for you to receive a package from your witch? I'll be out of town September 20 - 26 (coming back on the 27th). That's really early in the round, so probably no worries anyway, but I wanted to let my witch know just in case, and thought others might have something similar.   What movie scared the bejeezus out of you as a child? Pet Sematary. My dad took me to see it at the theater when I was like 10. Bad move, Dad. Very bad move.   Name a couple of sites you frequent other than this one? Facebook, Echo Bazaar, Etsy, The Onion, Post Secret, McSweeney's, Pure Felinity, Dragon Cave, NPR, Freakangels   Comfort rereads? Stephen King (especially the Dark Tower books, but King in general is good), The Dresden Files books, the Harry Potter books, the Warriors books, George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series, Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics (or just about anything else by Gaiman), Warren Ellis' Transmetropolitan comics, Dragonlance Chronicles, the Hellblazer comics, the Griffin & Sabine books by Nick Bantock, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, just about anything by Alan Moore, Poppy Z. Brite or Caitlin Kiernan   Box? A pretty box for bottles would be cool.   Favorite Halloween candy? I like the Doves or Kisses that come in pretty autumn wrappers.   If you could have any creature (real or imaginary) as a pet, what would it be? A snow leopard   Do you like the Muppets? Which is your favorite? Fizzgig from The Dark Crystal   What is something you use to comfort yourself when feeling yucky, depressed, or in pain? A glass of wine and a soak in the tub with a book   COMIC BOOKS. Do you read them? Are there any series you like, or some you would like to try? Oh yes. In fact, last weekend I finally got a couple of new boxes to store them in that are really nice and give me room to expand the collection. I'd kept them in several Rubbermaid storage containers for years that 1) no longer had any room for more, and 2) looked kinda tacky. Now I have two of these, which look way nicer in person and give me lots of room. Also the cats love sleeping on top of them.   Warm drinks? Yes please! I love tea, cider & cocoa.   Do you have a special symbol or totem that is meaningful to you? Cats. Big cats, domestic cats, all of them.   Socks? Anyone? Oh yes. SockDreams!   Do you wear makeup? Oh yes. Sephora!   Plushies? As in stuffed animals, yay! As in the fetish, um, no.   Favorite art/artist? Tough call. I like a lot of artists. I am especially fond of Charles Vess (who also happens to live in the next town over).   Guilty TV pleasure? Million Dollar Listing   Cosplay/costume? Something cool and steampunk-y   Harry Potter house? Ravenclaw   Cute or creepy Halloween decorations? Both   Scented tarts? I prefer scented oils, but tarts are ok.   Booze? Yes, please! I'm a huge wine nerd, and also really like beer and ciders. I don't drink cocktails very often, tho.   Body mods? My back is tattooed with a full back piece of burning wings, and I have a couple of other, smaller tattoos too. I am planning my first half sleeve, which I want to incorporate Bastet. I have 00 gauge plugs in my ears, a labret and a monroe (both 16 gauge). Jewelry for these would be lovely! I also have two regular piercings in each ear.   What is your favourite snack food, something you could grab any time? Steamed edamame, Japanese-style. Also good cheese, particularly Manchego.   DVDs? I actually have a Blu-Ray player, so either format would be great. Widescreen preferred.   How do you feel about mortars and pestles? I need a good set.   Phobias? Tight spaces is the only fear I have I would consider phobia-level. I am terrified of spiders too, tho.   Ceramics? I love pottery! I have a sort of mission to eventually replace all our boring Target plates and bowls with cool pottery pieces.   eBooks? Lemme tell ya 'bout me & eBooks. I am addicted. I have both a Kindle and a nook, and I have the apps for each on my Droid X. Plus the desktop apps. I still buy traditional books too (particularly of my favorite authors and series, which I prefer to have hard copies of). But yeah, I LOVE the convenience of eBooks.   What hobby/craft would you like to learn how to do? I'm still working on learning to knit.   Knitted things? Yes please! I love snuggly scarves and arm warmers and such.   MP3s or CDs? Whatever is easiest for my witch. I have all my music imported into iTunes, and I can easily import a CD from my witch too.   Lip balms? Another little addiction of mine. My lips chap very easily, so I always have lip balm. I love the stuff.   T-Shirt/PJ bottoms size? T-shirt is usually size L in the cute girl shirts (like the BPTP ones). I, ah, don't wear pajamas.   Mix CDs? Sure   Groupons? Nah   Gifts for other household members? Not necessary, of course, but if my witch wanted to include something, that would be very sweet. The dogs like just about any kind of chewie or chew toy (but no stuffed animal types, please; I try to discourage their interest in those); the cats like jingly toys and catnip (they have never eaten any cat treat I've tried to give them -- weirdos); the hubby loves chocolate chip cookies and, of course, beer.   Homemade treats? Yes please! I am especially fond of salted caramels, but pretty much any kind of yummy treat is good.   Testers vs. full-size? Whatever works best for my witch is ok with me.   Social networking? http://twitter.com/cammycat http://facebook.com/cammycat http://cammycat.livejournal.com (I almost never post tho; just read friends' stuff) http://www.google.com/profiles/camelliacollins http://picasaweb.google.com/camelliacollins

My Scent Library

Trying to determine the base scents and combinations I am attracted to -- so I may better choose new flavors! Suggestions are most welcome.   Jólasveinar (Yule 2006) -- Wow! I smell good enough to eat! Love-love-love. The girls and Hubby likes, too. Their scent is a mishmash of snow, dirt, Icelandic moss, marsh felwort, and the smushed petals of buttercups and moorland spotted orchids, with the barest hint of the scent of pilfered Christmas pastries.   The Peacock Queen (Yule)-- Rosy but one I can wear well; beautiful; doesn't last overly long but it makes me feel good. In dramatic contrast to the soft innocence of Snow White and the dew-kissed freshness of her sister, Rose Red, this is a blood red, voluptuous rose, velvet-petaled, at the height of bloom. Haughty and imperious, vain, yet incomparably lovely to the eye, but thick with thorns of jealousy, pride and hatred.   Sol Invictus (Yule 2006) -- Very nice. Sultry, complicated light. Family OK with it. A radiant blend of solar oils: golden amber, saffron, heliotrope, hibiscus, citron, frangipani, frankincense, tangerine, mock orange, and orange blossom.   Stormclouds Over The Midway Act IV: The Interlude -- Wine-colored storm clouds are gathering, and the scent of incense and ozone is thick in the wet air. Thunder-charged ozone, plum-colored incense smoke, opium tar, and wormwood.   Punkie Night (Halloweenie 2010)--I like this. Very pleasant. Corie loves it. May have to get a bottle. However, it gives Josie a headache. Bummer. This is a light-hearted scent: apple orchards, bright cranberries, and a touch of warm cider.   A Howl in the Darkness (Halloweenie 2010) --Subtle pine and mint. I like. Family seems OK with it. A scent evocative of a forest at midnight, with animalic brown musk, wild sage, Terebinth pine, black oak, and a chilly shock of terror personified by kunzea, cistus labdanum, verbena, juniper, metallic ozone, and white mint.   Odd Portents (Halloweenie 2010) --Spicy sensuality blended with a sweet, dark floral sensuality. I like. Josie likes a great deal (says it reminds her of the Penzeys Spices store). Hubby does not like. <sigh> Black rose, olibanum, dark musk, myrrh, blackcurrant, lavender buds, bourbon geranium, and amber incense.   Clytie (BPAL Trading Post LE) -- This is a very nice scent I really enjoyed wearing all day. If I run across a bottle, I'll have to snap it up! Great Loves and Tragedies of Ancient Greece - Excess of love begetting excess of grief: heliotrope, frankincense, muguet, osmanthus, and neroli.   Lotus Moon 2010 Soporose and lenitive: opium-laced golden lotus with rich amber, red sandalwood, pomegranate, frankincense, and rose otto.   Red Moon 2007 Our blend for this Moon mixes traditional lunar oils with the warmth of amber, Red musk, and heliotrope, the russet haze of dragon's blood resin, sunflower, and crushed orange peel, with a dusting of summertime herbs: chamomile, rue, elder flower and marigold.   Blood Moon 2008--Spicy sweet. But even this little bit of dragon's blood makes my nose stuffy. The feral scent of the heat of the chase, deep woods, undulating musks, brushed by forest flora, swirled in the incense of the anointed cherub that covereth, and touched by blood-dimmed lunar oils.   Inganok Jewelers (Lupercalia 2010) --Oh, I like this one. Unusual. Nag Champa incense like in that little metaphysical shop during college where I would buy jewelry. After a while there is a distinct metallic edge. Hubby does not like. Gleaming stone and silver.   Arkham (discontinued) --This smells really good but it seems to be more of a masculine scent to me. I still like it. If I could find a bottle, I'd be very pleased. (Inspired by Lovecraft.) A scent seething with the perverse splendor of complete and utter madness. High-pitched, yet dark...subdued and deep, but tingling with frenzy: juniper, nutmeg and black cypress shocked by verbena and lavender. http://www.bpal.org/topic/255-arkham/   Tabella (Forum Only LE 2008) The voting tablet. Herbs and flowers that represent democracy, justice, leadership, and power: olive blossom, frankincense, tobacco flower, benzoin, Little John, bergamot, galangal, angelica, fig, sage, and ginger.   Aperotos Eros (Ars Amatoria) --In the imp, I don't like it. When I put it on, I did so w/o smelling the imp and I can't smell it on me. Added more. Nothing! Will try another day. Tried again -- I can't believe I couldn't smell this! It's a rather bitter smell. Seems more masculine -- funny that other reviewers say it's more feminine. I do get traces of the bergamot and fir which I like but myrrh won't stop butting in. And then takes over. Damn you, myrrh. Unloving love: benzoin, Indian musk, massoia bark, myrrh, ambrette seed, galbanum, bergamot, and fir.   Defututa (Ars Amatoria) -- sexy scent; mmmm; Hubby OK with it. Olive blossom, honey, smoky vanilla, cinnamon, jasmine, sandalwood, and champaca flower.   The Lady Of Shalott (Ars Amatoria) Very pleasant but nothing that zings me. The scent of calm waters just before a raging storm, limned with achingly-beautiful blooms, an icy scent, but somehow warm, and mirror-bright: bold gardenia, crystalline musk, muguet, water blossoms, clear, slightly tart aquatic notes and a crush of white ginger.   Lorelei (Ars Amatoria) A tragic heroine from German lore. In despair over a faithless lover, she threw herself into the Rhine. In death, she has become a siren that haunts that river to this day, luring sailors to their doom. Neroli, sandalwood, ylang ylang.   Muse (Ars Amatoria) A light, invigorating floral and citrus blend. Tuberose, lotus and jasmine with a hint of lime.   Nefertiti (Ars Amatoria) “The Beautiful One Is Come”. Egyptian iris and olibanum with red and white sandalwood, soft myrrh and a breath of North African herbs.   Rapture (Ars Amatoria) Sensual ecstasy, the blinding red fire of the apex of sexual pleasure: Moroccan rose, Sumatran rose, mandarin, Egyptian myrrh, night-blooming jasmine, bergamot and neroli thrust into Arabian musk.   The Ghost (Ars Moriendi) --Extremely subtle. Can slather on and it still doesn't have much throw. What I can smell, smells good. A thin, sinuous, creeping chill, the scent of glee-filled undeath: white iris, osmanthus, Calla lily, tomb-crawling ivy and a coffin spray of gladiolus, lisianthus and delphinium.   La Belle Dame Sans Merci (Bewitching Brews) --Tea rose (yikes) with a metallic edge at the end. Rather overwhelming. Nope. A bewitching seductive scene, rife with mystery and foreboding.   Lightning (Bewitching Brews)--Need a bottle of this. Pleasing. Lasts all day. Made me feel good even after 5 hours in the emergency room with my daughter. The electric tang of ozone, marine notes, and a drop of sharp rain.   Morgause (Bewitching Brews) A bouquet of five night-blooming flowers deepened by dusky violet, purple fruits and the barest breath of medieval incenses.   The Raven (Bewitching Brews) --Oh, I love this. There is something in this that reminds me of my beloved Aunt Myra Nell. Hubby OK with it. Sleek, dark, and ominous. Violet and neroli mingled with iris, white sandalwood and dark musk. http://www.bpal.org/topic/511-the-raven/page__p__3451__hl__raven__fromsearch__1#entry3451   Poisoned Apple (Bewitching Brews) -- Very nice, complicated apple scent. A perfect, lovely, gleaming red apple whose sweetness masks a swirl of narcotic opium, oleander, and hemlock.   Saint-Germain (Bewitching Brews) discont. 8/13/10 --OMG the perfect scent for a man. Lots of throw. Hubby hates, though. "A man who knows everything and who never dies." He is a Hermetic Magician's hero for the ages, and his scent is an elegant, timeless, truly refined cologne, bold yet classic: gilded amber, hypnotic lavender, brash carnation and deep mosses.   Josie (The District)--A little too sweet and then turns sour. Heady magnolia and honeyed peaches.   Djinn (Diabolus)--I can't decide. Definitely a novelty scent. Wet is an experience of pissed power. But the last stage of dry is so wonderful. An ancient, free-willed race created from the essence of Fire, much as man was created from Earth. They prowled the land at night, vanishing with the first rays of dawn. Myths surrounding the Djinn paint them as many things: benevolent champions of mankind and slaves to mad sorcerers, malicious incubi / succubi and energy vampires, or malevolent harbingers of madness and disease. The Djinn are ruled by Iblis, the Prince of Darkness, who bears unspeakable contempt for man. The scent of black smoke, of crackling flames, and smoldering ashes.   Eos (Excolo) The Rising Sun. She is Ostara, Easter, the Anglo-Saxon goddess of fertility and the dawn. She is a protector and friend to all children. Her scent is that of softly glowing skin, jasmine, buttercup and honeysuckle.   Oya (Excolo) --Lovely and subtle. May need a bottle of this! Lady of the Wind. She is the wind that precedes the thunderstorm, and it is in this that She is seen as Shango’s companion and partner in battle, and without Oya, there is little that Shango can accomplish. She fans the fires of Shango’s blazes, and is the forked lightning that touches the treetops. Oya’s ofrenda is a Nigerian potion of love and war, sweetened by darkest plum. Oya winiwini! http://www.bpal.org/topic/14293-oya/   Persephone (Excolo) --Exactly as the reviews say: juicy pomegranite. But the rose is a tea-rose type to me. It is a beautiful combination but a bit too sweet for my tastes. Beautiful, radiant daughter of Demeter...her loveliness was so exquisite that even Hell itself could not resist her. Pomegranate and rose.   Utrennyaya (Excolo) --I need a bottle. Mint that gives way to floral. Doesn't last, tho. But touch-ups are nice b/c you get the mint back! The Zorya: Also called the Auroras. The Slavic Triple Goddesses of the Dawn, Sky and Light, who govern the paths of the day. The guard the constellation Ursa Minor from the chained Hound of Doomsday; should they ever fail in their duty, and the chain breaks, the universe will end. "The Morning Star" -- Osmanthus, Damascus rose, violet, delphinium, white mint, palmarosa and white sandalwood.   Cordelia (Illyria) --Very floral; it's OK; then Josie got a headache off it. The essence of faith, love and devotion: lilac, lemon, green tea, wisteria, osmanthus, white cedar, and Chinese musk.   Black Rose (Rappaccini's Garden) --Very mature rose. I like but this rose tends to amp and stick around. An evening scent. Exquisitely melancholy. The background scent to an ancient exequies. Heavy, dark and floral: a blend of roses, with a touch of amber and musk.   Baghdad (Wanderlust) -- This is so spicy! I like! But what is messing around and making my eyes itch?! Amber, saffron and bergamot with mandarin, nutmeg, Bulgar rose, musk and sandalwood.   Danube (Wanderlust) Rhododendron and bellflower petals swirl through deep, cool, dark aquatic notes.   Machu Picchu (Wanderlust)--On the need-a-bottle list. Pleasing. Sweet tropical fruits burst through deep, wet rainforest boughs, enormous steamy blossoms, over thin mountaintop breezes, mingled with the soft, rich golden scent of Peruvian amber.   Shanghai (Wanderlust)--BOUGHT A BOTTLE The crisp, clean scent of green tea touched with lemon verbena and honeysuckle.   Silk Road (Wanderlust) --I may have to get a big bottle of this one. Very pleasant. Exotic/romantic impression to me. Nice throw; lasts pretty much all day. A note of clean patchouli that I like btw. A panoply of cultural treasures, spanning the herbs, flowers, oils and balms of the Romans, the Byzantines, the Mediterranean, the Levant, Northern China, Eastern Europe, Iran, the Bulgar-Kypchak, Mesopotamia, the Crimean Peninsula, Anatolia, Antioch, and North Africa.   Venice (Wanderlust) --I think I like this. It does smell good, but it doesn't evoke an emotional connection. Oh, well. A complex, voluptuous scent that captures the robust beauty of the Italian Renaissance: lemon, red currant, wisteria, red rose petals, heady jasmine, Florentine orris root, waterlily, red sandalwood, violet plum, and violet leaf.   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   OUTRIGHT "NO" OR JUST "MEH"   Wicked (Diabolus) --YUCK! I don't like this one at all from just the sniff from the imp. Don't even want to put this on. OK. Decided I can't just a perfume by the imp. There's an element here that reminds me of spiced apples. Definitely rose. But then it dries down to something I don't like. Jasmine? Too much myrrh? I'm thinking it's jasmine b/c I'm a little sneezy and myrrh hasn't done that to me before. A paean to all the Wicked Queens, Evil Stepmothers, and other misunderstood villainesses throughout history and lore. Lends an aura of majesty, refinement, strength, and a deep, brooding malice. A sophisticated, womanly scent: rich myrrh and jasmine draped in the subtlest rose.   Highwayman (Bewitching Brews) I do not like vetiver and this is heavy vetiver! Vetiver with gardenia, blood red rose, night-blooming jasmine, a dash of cinnamon and a faint hint of leather.   Katrina van Tassel - Sleepy Hollow (Halloweenies) --It's OK. I could wear it but it doesn't zing me. Rose note is nice. Maybe too much cream/sweet. But then later, I found I was really enjoying wearing it. White rose and honeyed cream.   Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller - Act II: Fiat Nox -- Unfortunately this is a no. I think I just don't like patchouli. Didn't effect Hubby. Either way, my youngest says "it's hard to cuddle you when you stink". Wow. Don't mince words, hon. Red musk, vanilla bean, pomegranate, patchouli leaf and wild plum.   Samhain -- I liked; got lots of compliments; Josie liked; was ready to buy a whole bottle...but Hubby HATED. Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein.   Delirium --The rose is a tea rose. Ick! apple, rose, lemon   Djinn --A perfect interpretation of the name. Hot, pissed-off, powerful fire that then slowly burns itself out. http://www.bpal.org/topic/15688-santa-eul%26agrave%3Bria-des-riu/page__p__282156__hl__santa+ruis__fromsearch__1#entry282156   Saturnalia --Vetiver and violet. Gross!! I can't even smell the violet for the vetiver and if I do, I don't like it either.   Santa Eularia Des Riu --I like the citrus at first but then this dries down to nothing but jasmine. No. http://www.bpal.org/topic/15688-santa-eul%26agrave%3Bria-des-riu/page__p__282156__hl__santa+ruis__fromsearch__1#entry282156   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   --OTHER--   Lolita Lempicka Fleur Défendue "Forbidden Flower" Notes: Absinth Flower, Strawberry Leaf, Mimosa Stem, Peony, Violet, Aniseed Flower, Almond Musk, Morello Cherry Musk.   Bvlgari Eau Parfumee White Tea Notes: Artemisia Leaves, Ambrette, White Pepper, White Tea, Musk, Woody Amber.   Elizabeth Arden Provocative Interlude "citrusy floriental"; California Redwood? Top Notes: Wild Berries, Champagne Middle Notes: Rose, Sunset Orchid, Mango Flower Base Notes: Cashmere Musk, White Chocolate   Elizabeth Arden Provocative Woman Top Notes: Quince, Water Lotus and Ginger Middle Notes: Midnight Orchid, Papaya Blossom and Pink Freesia Base Notes: White Sand, Red Amber and Hinoki Wood   Elizabeth Arden Mediterranean Top Notes: Peach Nectar Sorbet, Sicilian Mandarin, Damask Plum Middle Notes: Wisteria, Star Magnolia, Madagascar Orchid Base Notes: Sandalwood, Musk, Amber   Liz by Liz Claiborne Top Notes: mandarin, pear, yello mimosa, and melon Middle Notes: purple hyacinth, honeysuckle, magnolia, and pink peony Base Notes: pink peppercorns, heliotrope, amber, and vanilla   White Witch by Parfums Jamaica   Smoking Plum by Violette Market Smoky Lapsang Souchong black tea, sweet Mount Wuyi black plum, raw vanilla pods, and a hint of cedar and redwood, create a dreamy mid-afternoon mist of esoteric mysteries.   Channeling Spirits 2010 by Blooddrop Great, great grandmamma clearly had a good bit left to say before she passed on. How lucky of her to get in a few last words! Black tea, faded soft blossoms, and a whisper of cool mint.   The Veil Between Two Worlds 2010 by Blooddrop A beautiful, sheer blend sharing earthly and spiritual qualities, welcoming one to the other. Pale green herbs, sweetened lemon and white grapefruit, sweet pea flower, mushroom fairy rings and faint blonde tobacco.

Harvest Moon Update

Well, looks like I have to do a note-by-note breakdown for these.   Harvest Moon......dry leaves, mulling spices, balsam fir, cedar, juniper berry, clove, saffron, damson plum, sage, yarrow, and lily twined with Dionysus' sacred grapes and ivy, a bounty of apple and pumpkin, and the amaranth and lingum aloes of Janus, all touched by a gentle breath of festival woodsmoke and sweet wine.   The first nine notes are either 'yes' or 'sure, why not', then things start getting more complicated. Yarrow I just don't know about but I can handle herbal. And then lily....you know, I missed lily the first time I read the notes. Kind of snuck up on me and I usually don't like lily, so that is something to consider. Then we move on to some fruits, more herbs, woods, and smoke.....most of which I like, or don't hate.....except the grape is something to also consider. Overall, I could be interested, and I've never tried Harvest Moon before and this would be a good one to start with, because I do like most of the notes.   Mabon.....Blackberry wine and apple with hops, English ivy, rosemary, hazel, sage, chamomile, sweetgrass, oak bark, wild nuts, and myrrh.   I'm leaning towards no, because of the blackberry wine and nuts, although I might actually enjoy a fall herbal scent. The addition of myrrh makes me want to at least try a decant.   Wildfire.....orris and rose together? No thank you. I don't think there's enough wood to temper those two powder/soap bombs.   So, bottom line, if I'm feeling adventerous I might just grab a bottle of Harvest Moon before it goes bye-bye. Maybe a decant of Mabon if I see one. And I do want to sniff Wildfire, if it crosses my path, but I don't hold out much hope for that one.

Stuff I've Tried.

B = Full or partial bottle(s) wanted! R = Would like to retest (partial imp/tester). S = Was especially bad.   Updated 9/13. Listed a bunch willy-nilly, I've honestly not been home long enough to sit down and organize. Erm, still have to add a ton, though.   If something's marked as wanting a bottle, it could be either that I currently only have imps, or that I want a backup. If it's the latter, I may be more picky when swapping, since I'd rather try new scents for now. Sorry to be confusing, haha. (And of course, not all my bottle wants will be feasible, but hey, might find a replacement somewhere!)   ARS AMATORIA: Bordello Brisingamen Depraved Kabuki ® Lolita Maiden Muse O Rapture Satyr Snake Oil ( Vixen   ARS DRACONIS: Dragon's Blood Dragon's Bone Dragon's Milk Dragon's Musk Dragon's Tears Ladon   CARNAVAL DIABOLIQUE: Pickled Imp ( Hand of Glory ( Theodosius ( Candy Butcher (   UNSORTED: Love's Philosophy ( Boo (2009?) Reaction To Halloween 2010 Update

Just for my own reference! http://www.bpal.org/topic/69868-halloween-update-2010/page__view__findpost__p__1808268   Finally got time to sit down and wade through the massiveness of this update...   ALL SAINTS 2010 -- Based on a venerable French pontifical incense blend: monastic frankincense and myrrh, Damascus rose, Russian gardenia, cassia, and lily of the valley wafting on a chill Autumn wind. A celebration of the glory and suffering of the saints and matryrs of the Church. Probably not for me; haven't been feeling the heavy incense scents lately, and I don't think that'll change. (It's already a pretty cold summer! But I still like my lighter scents.)   ALL SOULS 2010 -- An incense blend that invokes the higher qualities of mercy and compassion, mingled with the soft, sugared currant scent of offertory soul cakes. Mmm soul cakes... Again though, this doesn't jump out at me as a must-have.   BLUE PUMPKIN FLOSS -- Puffy clouds of pumpkin candyfloss with a trickle of blackberry juice. Sounds amazing! I haven't tried any pumpkin scents from the lab though, so I'm not sure... It might end up being too sweet.   BOO 2010 -- Eerie billows of spun sugar, fluttering white cotton, and sheets of cream. YES YES YES YES YES YES YES! I was so hoping for this one to come back! I'm not missing out on Boo this time   CALAVERAS -- Xocolatl, tequila, copal incense, smoke-dried jalapeños, vanilla pods, and cajeta. Sounds really intriguing but nothing's really calling out to me.   DIA DE LOS ÑATITAS -- Hydrangea blossoms and rose petals, cigarette smoke, cocoa leaves, and chichi. The cigarette smoke sounds interesting, but I don't know about the floral notes...   FLOR DE MUERTO -- The orange marigold, or zempasúchitl, has been one of Death's symbols since the pre-Columbian era. The yellow and orange petals are believed to represent the rays of the sun, bringing joy and light to the souls dwelling in the realm of the dead. These flowers surround Day of the Dead altars to guide the spirits to their offerings. I'm not really big on florals.   GHOULISH -- a black cherry and coconut amaretto confection gently laced with saffron. GUH. Black cherry? Amaretto?? MAYBE.   THE HAG -- Black musk, bay leaves, galangal, bourbon vetiver, blackcurrant, and rum. Mm, no I think musk scares me.   GOLLETES -- A circular pastry glazed with pink sugar that symbolizes the sweetness of life and the certainty of death. Might be a bit too sweet for me!   HUESOS DE SANTO 2010 -- Orange-glazed cake, dotted with anise seed, and filled with custard, set beside a bouquet of celebratory funeral flowers. Hmm not sure about the custard and the anise seed. Sounds like something I'd like to eat, but necessarily smell like.   LAMBS-WOOL 2010 -- A popular holy day beverage in 18th century Ireland: roasted apples mashed into warmed milk and ale, with nutmeg, sugar, ginger, and clove. YES PLEASE. I didn't get to try it the first time around and I've been kicking myself ever since!   NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY -- Dewy green leaves colored by Moroccan amber, ginseng, and rooibos. Hmmmm on the ginseng. Probably pass. Not sure, actually. Wait for reviews.   OCTOBER 2010 -- Dry, cold autumn wind. A rustle of red leaves, a touch of smoke and sap in the air. This sounds great! I'd probably go with Halloween San Francisco though. But I still wanna wait on reviews... it might be amazing.   PUMPKIN LATTE -- Espresso, pumpkin syrup, smoky vanilla bean, milk, raw sugar, and a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. OMG yum. I don't know if I need more foodie scents though.   PUNKIE NIGHT 2010 -- apple orchards, bright cranberries, and a touch of warm cider. I love the lab's apple scents! Definitely want.   SAMHAIN 2010 -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. I feel like I should try this just because it's the classic Halloween scent! Hmm...   SUGAR SKULL 2010 -- A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits. Probably too sweet for me.   THE WILD SWANS AT COOLE -- October twilight. Falling leaves breaking the stillness of cool water, with sweet autumn clematis, feather-soft orris root, luminous white chypre, and muguet. This sounds great, but I'm iffy on the orris root.   ++ HALLOWEENIE: MNEMOSYNE HALLOWEEN: BROOKLYN -- Flowering dogwood, weeping cherry, Korean pine, camellia, moonflower, Alberta spruce, arborvitae, and crab apples. Nothing's calling out to me here.   HALLOWEEN: LOS ANGELES -- The sky on fire: a strange incense of burning brush, junegrass, tumbleweeds, chaparral, and wild sage. I love LA, but I don't think I want to smell like it. -__-   HALLOWEEN: NEW ORLEANS -- The distinctive scent of the Mississippi at night mingling with sweet olive and Spanish moss. Mmm... possibly. Wait for reviews.   HALLOWEEN: SAN FRANCISCO -- Salt air wafting in from the bay. Rain falling on rain-soaked leaves. YES. I knew I had to have this as soon as I saw it.   ++ HALLOWEEN: POMEGRANATE GROVE POMEGRANATE I -- Pomegranate, poet's jasmine, and benzoin. Nope.   POMEGRANATE II -- Pomegranate, white musk, lemon verbena, grapefruit, pink lime. The notes here sounds amazing and delicious, but I'm not really a fruity-scent girl. Maybe.   POMEGRANATE III -- Pomegranate, Tamil Nadu sandalwood, lavender, tamarind, hazelnut, Atlas cedarwood, sugar date, bitter clove, and Arabian myrrh. Nope.   POMEGRANATE IV -- Pomegranate, cognac, red musk, cocoa, tobacco absolute, star anise, and thyme. This sounds so interesting! Wait for reviews.   POMEGRANATE V -- Pomegranate, carnation, amber, cardamom, neroli, vetiver, black pepper, and opium tar. I love neroli, but I'm not big on carnation, or vertiver. Probably not.   THE HERAEON OF ARGOS -- Argive Hera. The temple in the Argolid that was dedicated to Hera, the Queen of Heaven, in her aspect as the Great Triple Goddess. Pomegranate, apple blossom, fig, willow bark, and almond. No reaction. Sounds great, although I'm not sure about the fig (may turn soapy), but I'll probably never get my hands on it.   + HALLOWEEN: GOTHIC FICTION, VOLUME 1 THE BYRONIC ANTIHERO -- a Victorian fougère and a dashing carnation boutonnière tainted by a cloud of khus, yew, and patchouli. Ooooh this sounds so interesting! I'm curious about the yew and patchouli though. I might just get it for the Byron love.   THE CREEPING MIST -- A muculent, brumous, ill-omened scent: orris, yuzu, white ginger, linden flower, petitgrain, and lotus. Nope. I don't think any of these work on me.   THE DECREPIT HOUSE -- dilapidated planks of mahogany and cypress wood perched feebly on a grim foundation of long-dead leaves, black musk, patchouli, galbanum, tobacco absolute, fragonia, and oakmoss. Wood, black musk, patchouli... that actually sounds pretty scary, and I'm not at all sure I'd want to smell like that.   A HOWL IN THE DARKNESS -- A scent evocative of a forest at midnight, with animalic brown musk, wild sage, Terebinth pine, black oak, and a chilly shock of terror personified by kunzea, cistus labdanum, verbena, juniper, metallic ozone, and white mint. Same.   THE INFERNAL LOVER -- A creamy, sensual, honeyed red musk. Not sure about red musk, or (at the moment), honey. Probably not.   ECCLESIASTICAL EXCESSES -- Faustian depravity: daemonorops, rose-infused frankincense, vetiver, mate absolute, and clove bud. Nope - not feeling the frankincense and clove.   ENCROACHING MADNESS -- A yellow smell. Old foul, bad yellow things. Honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, balsam, hydrangea, and helichrysum. Hahaha this doesn't sound pleasant at all! I actually like honeysuckle though, so maybe!   THE SHADOWY AND THE SUBLIME -- Moroccan amber, wisteria, ambergris accord, white rose, magnolia, white mint, angelica, bergamot, and myrrh. Not sure about the florals in this one.   THE MADWOMAN -- Dusty white sandalwood, ragged cloth, and a dry, long-dead bridal bouquet. Sandalwood gets too incense-y on me.   ODD PORTENTS -- Black rose, olibanum, dark musk, myrrh, blackcurrant, lavender buds, bourbon geranium, and amber incense. Not a rose fan.   THE UNSAVORY GRAVE-DIGGERS -- An unearthed oakwood coffin, cemetery weeds, and a hint of booze. I'm not sure how I feel about boozy scents.   THE UNSTEADY GOVERNESS -- White tea and violet leaf. Hmm... definitely considering this one! I love tea scents.   And: 13: August 2010 -- A base of bitter dark chocolate with thirteen baneful and beneficial bits including pimento berry, pink pepper, tolu balsam, bergamot, golden honey, tobacco absolute, champaca flower, and paprika. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be placing my order in time to get this. So I'll just pretend it isn't there.   tl;dr:   Definitely getting Boo 2010, Lambs-Wool 2010, and Halloween: San Francisco. Leaning really close to getting Ghoulish, Punkie Night 2010, October 2010, and The Unsteady Governess. Waiting for reviews on Blue Pumpkin Floss, Nothing Gold Can Stay, Pumpkin Latte, Samhain 2010, The Wilde Swans at Coole, Halloween: New Oreleans, The Byronic Antihero, Encroaching Madness.

Halloween Update/breakdown

Breakdown! I have rated some of these according to my interest, on a scale of 1-5.   ALL SAINTS 2010 Based on a venerable French pontifical incense blend: monastic frankincense and myrrh, Damascus rose, Russian gardenia, cassia, and lily of the valley wafting on a chill Autumn wind. A celebration of the glory and suffering of the saints and matryrs of the Church. Not interested. All those flowers sound like soap to me.   ALL SOULS 2010 A day of remembrance and intercession. Without the prayers and sacrifices of their families and loved ones, the faithful departed may not be cleansed of their venal sins, and thereby cannot attain beatific vision. On November 2nd, prayers are sung and offerings are made to aid lost souls in transcending purgatory. An incense blend that invokes the higher qualities of mercy and compassion, mingled with the soft, sugared currant scent of offertory soul cakes. I like my decant of All Souls '06, and I might want more of this. It starts out cakey and turns into floral incense, in a good way. 3/5     BLUE PUMPKIN FLOSS Puffy clouds of pumpkin candyfloss with a trickle of blackberry juice. Not for me, thanks....more for all the gals who've been waiting for this!   BOO 2010 Eerie billows of spun sugar, fluttering white cotton, and sheets of cream No thank you......   CALAVERAS Clever little satirical poems in the style of epitaphs written to tease the living and ease grief over a loved one's passing. Xocolatl, tequila, copal incense, smoke-dried jalapeños, vanilla pods, and cajeta. I'll have to look up a couple of these notes, but I am not a big fan of copal (I do like it in incense, but not perfume), and I'm leaning towards nyet on this one.     DIA DE LOS ÑATITAS Hydrangea blossoms and rose petals, cigarette smoke, cocoa leaves, and chichi. Leaning towards no....don't really need a scent with rose and chocolate. Is chichi milk? 2/5   FLOR DE MUERTO The orange marigold, or zempasúchitl, has been one of Death's symbols since the pre-Columbian era. The yellow and orange petals are believed to represent the rays of the sun, bringing joy and light to the souls dwelling in the realm of the dead. These flowers surround Day of the Dead altars to guide the spirits to their offerings. I am interested, because I just like the idea of marigold perfume. They remind me of my grandma Nena, who liked to grow them. And it seems like they would be sort of a bitter or earthy floral, but really I have no idea. Want to try! 4/5   GHOULISH This season's Ridiculous Scent! Creepy like Creepy and as spooky as Spooky, this is the scent of a black cherry and coconut amaretto confection gently laced with saffron. Hmmm....at first I thought no, not interested. But reading it again, it sounds rather decadent and almost incensey, even though it's a foody/drinky scent. Sounds kind of sexy, actually. Decant? 3/5   THE HAG Black musk, bay leaves, galangal, bourbon vetiver, blackcurrant, and rum. Interesting.....I know I need to try this, so decant. Blackcurrant and rum are the iffy notes. 4/5     GOLLETES A circular pastry glazed with pink sugar that symbolizes the sweetness of life and the certainty of death. Nope, no thanks!   HUESOS DE SANTO 2010 Orange-glazed cake, dotted with anise seed, and filled with custard, set beside a bouquet of celebratory funeral flowers. I like my decant of the last one, but I wouldn't need a whole bottle. Perhaps another decant if it crosses my path. 3/5   LAMBS-WOOL 2010 A popular holy day beverage in 18th century Ireland: roasted apples mashed into warmed milk and ale, with nutmeg, sugar, ginger, and clove. I like this scent but in the end it was just too sweet, to the point of being cloying. I want more spices and ale, I think. I'll watch reviews and see if it has changed since last time. 2/5   NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY Dewy green leaves colored by Moroccan amber, ginseng, and rooibos. Ha ha....reminds me of the Outsiders or one of those old teen movies. Anyway, this sounds great, and I'm really interested in trying it. 4/5   OCTOBER 2010 Dry, cold autumn wind. A rustle of red leaves, a touch of smoke and sap in the air. Well, I love this scent, but I don't need any more unless it has changed a lot from the previous one.   PUMPKIN LATTE Espresso, pumpkin syrup, smoky vanilla bean, milk, raw sugar, and a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg. Worth a decant to sniff but not super exciting to me. 3/5   PUNKIE NIGHT 2010 This is a light-hearted scent: apple orchards, bright cranberries, and a touch of warm cider. Never was very interested in this scent, for some reason. Sounds too fruity with the cranberries, I generally don't like berries in my perfume.   SAMHAIN 2010 Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. I can most likely skip Samhain this year, since I have 2 bottles and several decants of various years already. I do love Samhain, though.   SUGAR SKULL 2010 Vibrant with the joy and sweetness of life in death! A blend of five sugars, lightly dusted with candied fruits. Hmmm......I have half a bottle from '07, and decants of '05 and '08.....do I need more? I love Sugar Skull, but maybe a decant will be enough for me. 4/5   THE WILD SWANS AT COOLE October twilight. Falling leaves breaking the stillness of cool water, with sweet autumn clematis, feather-soft orris root, luminous white chypre, and muguet. Hmmmm....kind of on the edge about this one but leaning towards no. Sounds very pretty but orris and muguet sound powdery and/or soapy to me. 2/5   HALLOWEEN: BROOKLYN Flowering dogwood, weeping cherry, Korean pine, camellia, moonflower, Alberta spruce, arborvitae, and crab apples. These notes sound soapy to me, especially moonflower. I'll pass on this one (even though pine and spruce make me want to sniff.....). 3/5   HALLOWEEN: LOS ANGELES The sky on fire: a strange incense of burning brush, junegrass, tumbleweeds, chaparral, and wild sage. I love the description and the imagery supplied by Beth. I forget what chaparral is but I want to try this. Decant first, probably. 4/5   HALLOWEEN: NEW ORLEANS The distinctive scent of the Mississippi at night mingling with sweet olive and Spanish moss. Moss is not always good to me, but sometimes very good to me. Worth a try because I do like aquatics in general. 4/5   HALLOWEEN: SAN FRANCISCO Salt air wafting in from the bay. Rain falling on rain-soaked leaves. Sounds awesome! Decant first, just to be cautious. 4/5   POMEGRANATE I Pomegranate, poet's jasmine, and benzoin. Well, I like benzoin, but pomegranate and jasmine are not thrilling to me. Probably pass. 2/5   POMEGRANATE II Pomegranate, white musk, lemon verbena, grapefruit, pink lime. Yeah...this is probably the least interesting of the pom. scents to me. Pass-ola. 1/5   POMEGRANATE III Pomegranate, Tamil Nadu sandalwood, lavender, tamarind, hazelnut, Atlas cedarwood, sugar date, bitter clove, and Arabian myrrh. Potential decant. 3/5   POMEGRANATE IV Pomegranate, cognac, red musk, cocoa, tobacco absolute, star anise, and thyme. Don't like cocoa that much with a couple of exceptions. Probably pass.....maybe decant. We'll see. 3/5   POMEGRANATE V Pomegranate, carnation, amber, cardamom, neroli, vetiver, black pepper, and opium tar. Hmm, sounds interesting, kind of foppish? Possibly worth a try. 3/5   Pomegranate patch only imp: THE HERAEON OF ARGOS Argive Hera. The temple in the Argolid that was dedicated to Hera, the Queen of Heaven, in her aspect as the Great Triple Goddess. Pomegranate, apple blossom, fig, willow bark, and almond. Not calling to me very much, although I would definitely try it if it crossed my path. 2/5   THE BYRONIC ANTIHERO An aristocratic cologne of titanic passions, moody and brooding. This scent is dark with disillusionment and cynicism: a Victorian fougère and a dashing carnation boutonnière tainted by a cloud of khus, yew, and patchouli. Hmmm, sounds interesting, and did I mention foppish somewhere else? Could be a nice proper dude-fume. Possible decant. 3/5   THE CREEPING MIST A muculent, brumous, ill-omened scent: orris, yuzu, white ginger, linden flower, petitgrain, and lotus. Interesting. Orris tells me to back away, and in general not my kind of scent.....but could still be worth a try. Will watch reviews and possibly try a decant if I see it available somewhere. 2/5   THE DECREPIT HOUSE An architectural doppelganger reflecting a ruined soul: dilapidated planks of mahogany and cypress wood perched feebly on a grim foundation of long-dead leaves, black musk, patchouli, galbanum, tobacco absolute, fragonia, and oakmoss. Yay, another Poe scent! I like them. This looks like a bleak and dreary Halloween scent and it's worth a decant, probably. 4/5   A HOWL IN THE DARKNESS A scent evocative of a forest at midnight, with animalic brown musk, wild sage, Terebinth pine, black oak, and a chilly shock of terror personified by kunzea, cistus labdanum, verbena, juniper, metallic ozone, and white mint. Aww, the description and concept are reaching out to me with grabbing hands, but I just don't like brown musk. I'm going to have to try a decant of this and hope for the best. This kind of reminds me of the updated Wolf Moon, which I love. 4/5   THE INFERNAL LOVER A creamy, sensual, honeyed red musk. Don't usually like honey at all, but still.....I'd like to sniff this at some point. 2/5   ECCLESIASTICAL EXCESSES Faustian depravity: daemonorops, rose-infused frankincense, vetiver, mate absolute, and clove bud. If this is one of those scents where the rose is just a hint, I could be interested. I'll be watching reviews. 2/5     ENCROACHING MADNESS A yellow smell. Old foul, bad yellow things. Honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, balsam, hydrangea, and helichrysum. I would love to try this just because of the inspiration. But reading the notes listed, I'd have to say 'pass'. We'll see. 2/5   THE SHADOWY AND THE SUBLIME A sudden and shocking insight into the vast, ineffable, overwhelming power of Nature, stirred by a vision or experience of perfected beauty and perfected terror, that changes the soul irretrievably. An epiphany: Moroccan amber, wisteria, ambergris accord, white rose, magnolia, white mint, angelica, bergamot, and myrrh. This probably has too many flowers, and white rose and I do not get along. Love the description and imagery, though. 2/5   THE MADWOMAN Dusty white sandalwood, ragged cloth, and a dry, long-dead bridal bouquet. Just like the preceding scent, love the concept, but not the notes listed. 'Dusty white sandalwood' doesn't appeal to me, and neither does the bouquet. 1/5   ODD PORTENTS Black rose, olibanum, dark musk, myrrh, blackcurrant, lavender buds, bourbon geranium, and amber incense. Again with the rose! And I was excited about this one. I might still try this, but I don't really like geranium in perfume either. Another possible decant.... 3/5   THE UNSAVORY GRAVE-DIGGERS An unearthed oakwood coffin, cemetery weeds, and a hint of booze. Sounds a little dank. I'll be watching reviews. 2/5   THE UNSTEADY GOVERNESS White tea and violet leaf. Not calling me. 2/5   .....so looks like I'm pretty safe with a few exceptions. I like the sound of the San Francisco and LA Halloween scents, and a few others like Nothing Gold Can Stay and the marigold one. I'll probably play my usual game and gamble on something I'm not sure about (the marigold scent sounds like a good candidate because I have no idea how that will smell), and get a few decants. I also need to go back and try Lambs-Wool again just to be sure.   And finally, I need to read the text more slowly for the Goth Lit scents, as that could change my mind on one or more of them. I noticed it says Vol. 1.....will there be more volumes? Interesting!

Doom, Doom, Doom!

We all have them, notes of doom. Maybe it's something you don't like, or maybe it's something that doesn't like you. I imagine as my BPAL inventory grows, this list will grow, too. Some of them make me sad, because I love the scent. It just does terrible things on my body. Some of them I just don't like, period, on or off me.   Black musk- Turns straight to baby powder and then play-doh, every. single. time.
Magnolia- Becomes a cloying mess of decaying, sickly sweet flowers.
Arabian Musk- Smells like ass on my skin. Literally.
Cherry- Turns plastic and gross.
Plum- Gets so cloying and sickly sweet it makes me nauseated.
Opium- Love the smell, but it gives me a headache from Hell.
Cinnamon- Love the smell, really do, but it gives me contact dermatitis.
As an adjunct to notes of doom, these are the BPAL scents that haven't worked for me so far, some much worse than others.   The Chicken Legged Hut- just...NO.
Haunted- Baby powder, followed by play-doh, but SO lovely in the imp.
Odin- Baby powder and pencil shavings.
Black Rose- Baby powder and elegant rose.
Hell's Belle- Magnolia funeral flowers of death.
Black Dahlia- The same as Hells' Belle.
Drink Me- Plastic cherry ick that burned the back of my throat.
Bathsheba- Cloying sweetness that nauseated me.
Darkness- Headache from Hell.
Bordello- See Bathsheba.

Current Events

Well, here's what I think....   I first came to bpal.org to read reviews and shipping updates. What I have found has been much, much more. I've made friends here from my own city as well as around the world, as well as finding a 'hobby' if that's what you want to call our collections. The people here and the oils we collect have enriched my life and opened my mind, and I've been through several big life-changes since coming around here. I can always find advice or just a shoulder to cry on when I'm here, and I know it goes even deeper for others in this community....some have mentioned that their sanity and their lives have been saved by their friends here, and I believe that is not an exaggeration.   I do not blame anyone who is still friends with fairnymph, or who decides to sell to her when (if) all this is resolved. Let's face it....she's going to get the perfumes that she wants. She will find a way. Her posts that I've read strike me as coming from someone who is.....maybe the ultimate control freak? Self will run riot? I don't know, this probably isn't the place for it. My point is that she will find ways to get the oils that she wants and nobody here should lose sleep if she finds ways around the things we do to block her. She kind of reminds me of a little kid who wants all the toys for herself and then finds herself all alone with her toys because nobody wants to play with her any more. In a way that's sad because she's brought her own punishment on herself, worse than anything we can do by blocking her from buying stuff. She's cut herself off from a lot of potential friends and rich opportunities, and she did it to herself. I bet there are people around here who still would forgive her, and give her a chance, and be friends with her, and I don't find anything wrong with that at all.   *sigh*......I don't even know where I was going with this or what my point is.....I think I'll just leave it at that.

For The Good Claws

For the longest time, I wasn't much of a girly-girl. I played piano for many years which never gave me occasion to grow my nails out at all, and always having short nails made me not care about polish. Add the fact I was a spazz with a nail polish brush and always made a huge mess and that I am ridiculously prone to chipping it within less than a day, and it was a given I wouldn't bother with it much.   For the first time ever, I've started growing out my nails to a decent length. BPTP claw polishes can claim a lot of credit for that. I've decided to talk a little bit about all of the ones I have so far rather than doing separate entries since I don't have that many yet.   The first I bought was Blood Countess. I adore the color. It's a true red, a very deep, dark, dried blood red without either brown or purple in it. I use three layers over a base coat for the most even color, letting it dry between each layer, and top it with a top coat. Dry time is average. The polish is high gloss with a very professional looking finish. I had it on my hands and feet two weeks the first time I tried it, with no chipping or fading at all on the feet and very minimal chipping at the tips for the fingernails.   Second up were Maiden and Embalming Fluid, which layer with each other very well. The finished product looked like opals on my fingertips and toes. The only complaint I have with Maiden is that it seems a little more chip prone than Blood Countess, with or without Embalming Fluid. Embalming Fluid glows a bright, white-green in the dark. Just be careful and gentle when removing it. The glitter can rough up your nail surface and leave scratches.   Lastly has been Hell's Belle. The color is drop dead gorgeous, a metallic pink with a gold sheen and the tendency to look a little bit lilac in bright sun. However, I think I got a bottle that overheated in the mail or something. The cap was gunked on, and the polish seems unusually thick. I've had to shake it between every nail and wasn't able to get a perfectly smooth, even coat. It also took three hours to dry fully. I like the color enough to try this again in cold weather, and since the other colors have been so high quality, I can't help but think this was probably a fluke. On the plus side, I had it on two weeks before it started to chip, a record for me on my hands!   BPTP an BPAL, you're turning me from my tomboy ways, slowly but surely. All I need now is a fan and a fainting couch.

Embalming Fluid...ah, memories of dear old Dad!

Dad is still alive, by the way, but he's indirectly the reason I decided to try this soap. He raised me on stories of his days as an ambulance driver and mortuary worker. Back in the day, the two were often one and the same. He wasn't the mortician; he was the mortician's assistant, sort of like the sorcerer's apprentice with a little less music and mopping. Well...there was lots of mopping, come to think of it.   The soap! Marbled blue, green, and purple, rather like the flesh of a corpse, it's prettier than it sounds. The scent is refreshing and thirst quenching, exactly as I imagine embalming fluid is not. The lemon, aloe, and green tea combine with a minty freshness. This soap is a lovely summer soap, but the scent doesn't linger beyond the actual shower. It's a little more vegetable soapy than the Shub Niggurath. Don't leave it wet, or it will go a little slimy, and we're back to the corpse theme.   I wonder if I should get a bar of this for Dad...

So I was on the way to Arkham...or how I became an addict in a minute or less.

My first order actually came from the Trading Post, two soaps and one wicked little claw polish. The first soap I tried was Shub Niggurath. I should back up a little bit. *beep*beep*beep* Hey, baby got back, a'ight?   I got addicted to introduced to H.P. Lovecraft at the tender age of 13 by a Louisiana History teacher who knew I was a little off even then, I guess. I was young enough that some of the stories scared the bejeebus out of me, which means I read them alone as often as I could. So I saw this soap named after an Old One, the Black Goat of the Woods, no less. I was enthralled intrigued and thought, why not?   Why not indeed? Soap is too common a term for something that created a bathing event, but if I were to call it fthgngth, you'd have no idea what I was talking about or maybe be inclined to hand me a tissue and say, "Gesundheit," which in certain circles has been known to open a gate or three, so let's keep it simple and call it soap. The color: rich, deep cinnamon brown marbled with lighter brown and coated with metallic gold dust all along the top. Gorgeous! These soaps themselves are works of art all their own, I tell you, and I never lie unless it will get me out of trouble.   The scent: well, I've seen it described as the Devil's ginger snaps and a pumpkin pie that has gone through Hell in the review section, and I'd have to agree with both and then some. It's not foodie. You'd be insane--yeah, we all know that's what the Old One's want--ever to eat anything that smelled like this. You'd still probably want to eat it anyway and be happy when your belly bloated to twice its normal size, a small price to pay for something so delicious.   It's soap. Don't eat it. Bathe with it. Luxuriate in it. Let it worship your skin with rich, silky lather. Let it leave behind its scent mark in every open pore. Go to bed and find yourself unable to sleep because of the energetic ginger goodness. Better yet, save the bath until you want to wake up. This soap means business. If goats smelled like this, nobody would have dogs. But if the Black Goat of the Woods smells like this, assume that you now understand why She is also called "the Goat with a Thousand Young". Ladies, be prepared to beat the men away with sticks, or the women if that's how you swing. Men, this goes for you, too. The scent is unisex and wonderful for shower sharing.   A final word. Beware. This soap will make you: late for work
late for bed
buy a full bottle of Shub Niggurath oil
susceptible to the darkest magics (maybe)
highly huggable
even more highly sniffable
beg for more, more, more!
It's official. I'm a cultist of the goat, and I'm looking for converts. Any takers?

Stuff and Nonsense!

I've been telling myself for the past month that it would be a good idea to start keeping track of scents I've tried, how they worked out for me, and any interesting things that happen as a result of sniffing or wearing. This seems like a perfectly logical place to keep it since I come here all the time anyway. In addition to a scent diary, I may post random nonsense, recipes, little stories, or anything that seems like a good idea at the time. (But probably isn't!) So sit back, have a whiff or two, throw back a bottle, and enjoy if you care to spend a little time with me.
