Stuff I've Tried

This is at least a little incomplete. I used to keep a list of everything I tried on a web host that recently shut down, and I wasn't able to keep my official list. I had to go through all of the reviews and pick out what I had tried, but I'm sure I missed a lot. But alas, here is the best I could do.   Absinthe Aeval Aglaea Aizen-Myoo Al Azif Al-Shairan Alice All Night Long All Souls Anathema Anne Bonny Antique Lace Anubis Aperotos Eros The Apothecary Arkham Ashlultum Athens Australian Copperhead Ave Maria Gratia Plena Azathoth Aziraphale A Bachelor's Dog Baghdad Banned in Boston Baron Samedi Bastet Bathsheba Bayou Belladonna Belle Epoque Bengal Bensiabel Bette Noir Bewitched Bien Loin D'Ici Bilquis Black Forest Black Ice Black Opal Black Lotus Black Pearl Black Phoenix Black Rose The Black Tower Blood Blood Amber Blood Countess Blood Kiss Blood Moon Blood Rose Bloodlust Bluebeard Bohun Upas A Bold Bluff Bon Vivant Bonfire Night Bordello The Bow and Crown of Conquest Bread-and-Butterfly The Brides of Dracula Brimstone Brisingamen Brotoloigos Brown Jenkin Buck Moon Burial Cairo Caliban The Caterpillar Cathedral Cathode Chanukkiyah Chimera Circe The City in the Sea Clermont Cloister Graveyard in the Snow Cockaigne The Coiled Serpent Coral Snake Count Dracula Coyote The Cracked Bell Cristina Crossroads Czernobog Dance of Death Danse Macabre Darkness De Sade Dead Man's Hand Death Adder Death Cap The Death of Autumn The Death of Sardanapal Dee The Deep Ones Defututa Delight Delphi Depraved Desire Destroying Angel Devil's Night Dia De Los Muertos Diwali Dionysia Djinn Doc Constantine Dorian The Dormouse Dracul Dragon's Blood Dragon's Bone Dragon's Hide Dragon's Milk Drink Me Earth Phoenix Eat Me Eden Ekhidna El Dia De Los Reyes Elegba Emma Empyreal Mist Eos Event Horizon Fae Faiza, the Black Mamba Faustus Fenris Wolf Fledgling Raptor Moon Florence Follow Me Boy Forbidden Fruit The Fruit of Paradise Galvanic Goggles Gaueko Geek Ghoulish Glitter Gomorrah Grand Guignol Graveyard Dirt Greed Grog Gypsy Gypsy Queen Habu Hamadryad The Hamptons Harlot Harvest Moon Haunted Havana Hearth 2004 Hellfire Herr Drosselmeyer The Hesperides Hetairae Hexennacht The High Priest Not to Be Described Hollywood Babylon Horn of Plenty Horreur Sympathique The House House of Night Hunter Moon Hurricane Hymn to Proserpine Iago Iambe I Died for Beauty Ichabod Crane The Illuminati Cotillion Imp Incantation Inferno Intrigue Ivanushka Jack Jacob's Ladder Jailbait The Jersey Devil Jester Jezirat al Tennyn Jolly Roger Katharina Kathmandu Kill-devil King of Clubs Knecht Ruprecht Krampus Kroenen Kubla Khan Kumari Kandam Kyoto La Befana La Fee Verte La Petite Mort Lady Macbeth Lamia Lampades The Last Rose of Summer Leanan Sidhe Les Bijoux Libertine Lilith The Lion The Little Wooden Doll Lolita London Lorelei Loviatar Love Me Love's Philosophy Lucretia Lunar Eclipse Luperci The Lurid Library Lust Lysander Mabon Machu Picchu Mad Sweeney Mme. a lesson in overspending!

Oops, I really overspent this month. But there was just so much yummy stuff that kept getting posted and well, I just couldn't resist it. I've found a few new loves and some stuff that I was hoping would work but drastically disappointed me (I'm looking at you Womb Furie!).   My bottles of Berry Moon and Pumpkin III (2007) came today. I'm in love with Pumpkin III and the jury is still out on Berry Moon- I'm gonna give that a couple of days and then try it again. If it doesn't work I'll stick back in the bottle box for a few months and then pull it out again. Who knows, I may end up liking it.   Selling off my bottle of Hellhound On My Trail and Litha 2006 on Ebay. I hate to do it, but both are pretty awful on me- Hellhound being the worst. I think it's the tobacco it just goes straight to powder and Litha just goes ick really fast. Oh well, I could use the cash anyway.   Speaking of that, the Lab has a cobalt of Samhain up for bid on Ebay. I am sorely tempted to bid on it because it could mean that its my beloved Samhain 2005- which smells the best on me. Of course they don't have a date listed but either way it'd nice to have an earlier scent. And if it is '05? Oh god yes!   Either way, I'm spending way too much money.

Why ohh Why

Did my bottle of Blockbuster run out just went I need the smell of cinnamon.. This week has been crap at work.. deal with other people's drama.. their ex's showing up and have to tiptoe around the boss who is freaking out over people not doing their jobs so she puts it into my lap.   I need.. cool weather, the fall to arrive and some eye candy and some new scent to replace my bottle of blockbuster.   Other news Sara P smells like honey and cherries on me with a tiny hint of leather.. need to find the perfect layering scent to go with it.. Smut is a no.. Dia de los Muertos .. no.. but might try Sugar skull.

breakdown, Joyful update

JOYFUL MOON White musk, French vanilla, ambrette seed, frankgipani, angelica root, white rose, orris, and honeysuckle. No white rose for me, especially with orris. Powdery soapy city.   LIBERTY Liberty was created for the CBLDF, inspired by Eugène Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People: frankincense, beeswax, olive blossom, chamomile, sampaguita, magnolia, apple blossom, gunpowder, and smoke. Nope.....not really in a floral mood, and beeswax might be honeyish.   Rappaccini's Apiary:   No honey for me! Thanks anyway!   MOONSHINE AND MIST Ethereal, otherworldly, delicate: ambergris, white musk, water violet, ylang ylang, magnolia, and white sandalwood. Ehh.....somewhat on the floral, papery/powdery side? I mean, I like white musk sometimes, it's not my favorite, but I can wear it. But white sandalwood is usually papery to me, and all these things together.....just don't call out to me.   OLD DEMONS OF THE FIRST CLASS Siberian musk, black clove, opoponax, tonka, black pepper, and neroli. Definitely want to try this! I have often coveted the Siberian Musk single note, never got to try it, and besides that the rest of those notes sound great too. Sometimes black pepper turns on me.....well, so does clove, sometimes, for that matter......but this is very much worth a try.   THE DEATH-HORSE Lily of the Valley and opopponax. I generally stay away from most lilies, because they turn into sharp soap of the apocolypse. I don't know, though, the simplicity appeals to me, and I think I do like opopponax. Could be worth a sniff but I'm not going far out of my way to find it.   THE GRAVE-PIG Fig, oakmoss, mushroom caps, and patchouli. This doesn't call out to me, despite being potentially dude-fume, which I usually do seek out. But I'm not a fan of mushrooms in any form (scent or taste), and oakmoss can be overwhelming at times. Could be worth a try.   BEER FROM THE MARSH WOMAN'S BREWERY A beer flavored with marsh arrow grass, yew berries, purple foxglove, and giant hogweed. Hmph. Another scent that is not calling to me, but who knows....it could be worth a try. Herbs and beer? Wow. Just can't picture it.   THE NIGHT-RAVEN Indigo musk, wild plum, rose geranium, benzoin, night-blooming jasmine, and patchouli. Even though I'm intrigued by indigo musk, I'm probably going to let this one pass by. I just don't like rose geranium. I do already have a dark purple-y Chaos Theory that I really like, so I'll just stick with that.   THE OLD GOBLIN A crown of hardened ice and polished fir-cones. Pine in any form gets my attention, so I really do want to try this. Snowball Fracas had some kind of sharp ammonia-like note, so that would be the only potential problem here, if this scent has it too.   CAT ALLINGHAM Distilled shadows, a bleak desert landscape at midnight: Myroswelia balsam, gaïac wood, obsidian musk, green cumin, patchouli, myrrh, Siamese benzoin, frankincense, champaca, and sand. Oh, crud. This one, sadly, does call out to me, and I'm unlikely to get to try it. It sounds good....kind of like a fancy schmancy relative of Oblivion.

OMG! Get out imps, I have SO had enough.

They are everywhere. Practically crawling out my ears, and another one has started leaking after I snuck a quick sniff. (I can't seem to get them to stop sometimes). In the past two days, my first lady of the grindhouse (which I loved), Love's Philosophy, AND Peppered Caramel Chocolate have just leaked themselves to 1/2 way after all I had was a quick sniff. So that's it, I am putting up all the non-leaking buggers up and they need to go! I am tired of their unruly ways. it's all chaos

After dealing with the pain of actually getting it to me, my partial bottle of Chaos Theory II: The Butterfly Effect has finally arrived. It's CCCXC (390) and seems to have aged pretty decently.   In the bottle it's very sharp, almost lemony- very clean smelling. Wet its still very sharp but with a hint of spiciness. Dry the clean lemon scent fades to the back and the spice really pops out on me. The seller thought it smelled like pumpkin but I think its more like allspice or a bit of cinnamon.   If the lemon would stay around it'd be the perfect summer scent.

Addiction

I think BPAL is officially an addiction and needs a BA society to drink with coffee and smell coffee beans with. Little voices keep telling me to get more, but really I am not a slather-er and don't really have the miles of skin all my smellies will need to ever use them all up.   That said I am really piqued to have a sniff of   Tiki Princess (is she really Snow White's tropical cuz?) [BANNED] SugarCookie (aka: shadowdoll, Cygnet, fairydoll, sakuratart, playingwithaloadedgun)

SugarCookie created several duplicate accounts on 14 June 2010 after receiving less than stellar feedback.   On 24 June 2010, we instigated an investigation into the duplicate accounts due to the sheer amount found by the analyzer (three mostly unused secondary accounts: shadowdoll, Cygnet, fairydoll; two primary accounts: SugarCookie, sakuratart) and gave them all restricted access.   Between 24 June and 10 July, we had PMed both accounts and found many inconsistencies, and abnormal similarities in IP addresses (including finding that a cell phone had been used to go between the accounts a few times).   On 13 July 2010, we received credible documentation from a member who had sold to SugarCookie and had reviewed their paypal account to see that sakuratart's email address was now listed. The secondary accounts were indefinitely suspended and the primary account (SugarCookie) was given a 30 day suspension.   On 15 July 2010, SugarCookie created another duplicate account, playingwithaloadedgun, and all accounts were subsequently banned.     Moral of the story: when on suspension for duplicate accounts, it is most unwise to create another one.

blogy

Bleeehhhhhh.........   My 5th night in a row at work.......do not feel like being here.......wish I brought my real paper journal with me........but I do actually have school work I should be doing. But I don't really have the attention span right now!   I'm finding myself very busy lately, and it seems like there's not enough time in the day to do the things I want or need to do. So I don't even try. With the time I do have I end up laying around playing video games. Ah well, life could be worse, and I really can't complain.   Spending too much money on perfume lately, but that's nothing new. I have Mad Hatter and Baron Samedi bottles on the way, which is awesome.   Can't seem to settle on one topic so that's all for now.

Helios

(I'm not happy with this review....this is just a first draft)   Resinous scents are kind of a no-brainer for me, to the point where I don't even try all the new ones. But I love, love, love Helios. This is kind of an updated Sol. There's also something reminding me of Doc Buzzard, although I can't imagine which note that would be.   Okay, sorry if you haven't had the chance to try Sol or Doc Buzzard. This scent is kind of woody and spicy, but transcends both of those categories. I guess it's kind of incensey, but really high-class incensey. It kind of makes me think of that ultra-expensive Amouage cologne, one of the Jubilation ones (I can't remember which one I've tried, XXV I think), only without the patchouli. So yeah, I guess I am picking up on the frankincense. But it's not being a big frankincense bully with the other notes, like it sometimes does for me. Everything is in harmony.

What happened part one

It was Saturday before I heard something had happened. Already for 72 hours dozens of baby faced teenage boys with bullets in their shoulders, and pregnant women with gunshot wounds to their knees had been bundled over the border by family members. Thousands more stood waiting in no man’s land by the time Al Jazeera reported on the shootings on Saturday morning.   At the time I wasn’t surprised—after all, things like this happen in Kyrgyzstan regularly now. The point about ethnic conflict was not really being reported until Monday morning. Even at that point the media said the violence was due to some gang activity, they didn’t mention men in Kyrgyzstan military uniforms were the ones setting Uzbeks on fire and pulling out their eyes.   By Monday, I was writing indignant emails to friends about how I had not one single message or phone call about the situation, and I work for the main aid organization in Uzbekistan! My boss sent an Uzbek colleague out to review the situation on Sunday and he returned Tuesday with sterile facts about the camps: 3,248 people in Jalalquduq, 4,200 people in Poktabod. My colleague didn’t mention anything about the rapes or the mutilations. He also didn’t mention anything about the toilets, shelters or meals at any of the 40-odd refugee camps being set up along the Kyrgyzstan border. My boss sent me out to investigate along with our health project manager, Adolat.   By then, late on Tuesday afternoon, I had some idea of what was going on. I knew the basic facts—37 camps, 80,000 refugees, mostly women and children—but I also had heard some of the rumors that were being reported, about the decapitations, shootings, and beatings of Uzbeks. I and my colleague drove the 5 hours out to the Fergana Valley and settled into our hotel in Margilan about 10pm. We had no idea what exactly we were doing, with whom we were supposed to meet, or what the implications of this trip (I am talking on a personal level) might have.   At 9:00 we reported to the Andijon airport where the main coordinating center had been set up. Adolat and I sat there for 3 hours waiting for someone to be identified by the government to accompany us to the camps. In the small “press center” where we were waiting, a DVD was being looped showing men and women being carried into the Andijon emergency hospital with gunshot wounds. The time stamp on the footage read June 10, 3:10am. Until this point, I thought the shooting had started on Friday rather than Thursday. Yes, the three press men sitting next to us confirmed, it started Thursday. The DVD lasted for an hour and showed at least 100 people dead and dying, and was accompanied by a small set of laminated, bound pages of pictures of corpses. These photos included men with gunshot wounds to the head, women severely beaten and the charred corpses of toddlers wrapped in blankets.   Our first stop was the emergency hospital where the injured were brought. We donned the requisite white coats (Adolat's actually an MD) and visited the wounded. Everything was white, clean, quiet and bleached. Young men stared languidly at the ceiling while doctors explained their treatments and the surgeons produced before and after x-rays to show to the American what action was taken. Thankfully, we were spared visits with the rape victims but were allowed access only to the ICU where the worst injuries were still recuperating. 170 people were brought to this hospital with gunshot wounds.

Thyme and Rosemary

Sunday, June 27th 2010         Today is Sunday, June 27th. I have decided to keep a blog of the scents I've tested, as well as the progress of my new garden. I am a black thumb, but the garden is very important. Rosemary for remembrance...Shakespeare. So far I have thyme, rosemary, mint and basil. I long to add more exotic plants to this aromatic garden.   The scent I have revisited today is the beautiful Calliope. The fragrance is everything I want to personify. Clean, fresh, herb-sharp and clarified. Nothing will induce gardening more than the lovely Calliope.   I have never kept a blog before and am unsure as to what I should even proselytize over! I suppose more will come tomorrow, as I hoping this blog with be therapeutic and fun for me to keep even if no one reads it.
