Oh Hai!

UPDAYT FOR HALLOWEENIE ROUND!   Dearest Witch, Oh hai. Plz to b reedin mai ketchupz. Kthxbai,   Witchee   ------ Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? I will be on a cruise October 25th-30th, but if you're planning on sending something I can always make sure our neighbor checks the front and back doors for delivieries too larger for the mail boxes.   Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors? I LOVE Firefly, but thb I have three parasols already which don't get much use.   Hand beaded jewellery, yay or nay? YAY!   Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself? As I mentioned earlier, when it comes to crafts I'm a sprinter, not an endurance runner. But if you give me something ready to wear, I'll definitely be rocking it out!   Everyone who wants a beaded potholder, please to be raising the hands! Sure?   To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement? Definitely.   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc? I wear long wigs, and my hair is a modified pixie (which I am trying to figure out why I have no picture of... I will rectify immediately!). So barrettes, small clips, bobby pins, and headscarves are the only things that will work for me.   Edit: dammit, NO good short hair pics -- but how 'bout me with a sweet-ass mohawk??   If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like? I am not a huge cookie eater, but I do love sugar cookies. AND chewy gingersnaps OMG   Anyone else a total nerd like me and would like DnD/Roleplay stuff (Dice, minis, books, corny tees, etc.)? Particularly nerdy tees/gags, though I don't have much time to actually play anymore.   Cat hair? I already have plenty -- what's a little more?   Who (of course excluding Schackjj ) would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.? That would be amazing! I love fuzzy socks for bedtime (any length, really). I do also wear socks during the day, but those are thigh high ones and I wouldn't expect anyone to have that much spare time for knitting! I wear 9 1/2 size shoes.   Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers? I like hats! I keep eyeing ones like this, or pretty much anything that will cover my ears and keep them warm. I like arm warmers in theory, but I seldom figure out how to incorporate them into my regular wardrobe. I prefer fingerless gloves to mittens. Oh, and whoever posted this scarf -- OMGCUTE! I immediately thought "and then Trogdor comes in the NIIIIIIIGHT!"   So, question all- how do people feel about unusual ornaments? I typically stick to plain ball ornaments in a certain color scheme for my tree -- nothing funky.   On a similar note, who likes yarn? What kinds/colors/weights/fibers? Handspun? Glitter? Funky art yarn made from shredded jeans, fake flowers, lace, sequins, and the tattered souls of your enemies? Other craft supplies you desperately want more of and can't live without? If I were to receive any kind of "craft material," it would be some cooking item I either don't have access to or just don't have atm. So small amounts of interesting spices or extracts, King Arthur/Tollhouse Cinnamon Baking Chips (these would rock my socks!), colored decorating sugars, anything like this would just tickle me pink.   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? I do have a weakness for sweets. And I mean SWEET sweets -- you could send me a tub of frosting, and I'd eat it (just not all at once!). I also used to get this delicious Turkish Delight/ fruit pates which I loved (I can't remember if they had nuts or not, but either way I would be happy to try them again).   Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Oooh, a homemade tee would be fun! I've gotten into wearing tees more and more for casual clothing (thank you, Threadless sales).   Another question! How does everyone feel about steampunk? I <3 <3 <3 it! ------ New Stuffs:   What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here.     I'm having more good days, but it can be a lot of work sometimes. Then again, when is being happy something that comes naturally?   Question: do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips? One of my favorite pasttimes! I love cooking just as much as I like to bake, though Teh Manthing would say I'm a more accomplished baker. I love to cook anything and everything (and I especially like to try new regions of cuisine and/or new cooking techniques). I would love any of the things listed in the question.   And.... what fashion item or style do you like, but never wear? I love Lolita style, but I very seldom find a way to pull it off without making Teh Manthing look like a pedo.   Would my potential Witchee be up for some stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words?Sure! Since I love industrial music, I have quite a bit in German (they always have the best industrial). I also have some in French and Spanish (I love The Pink Martinis, who sing in both English and Spanish). Of course, I have come across music in another tongue I did not care for, which I think was more because I couldn't understand what the song was about... so, I guess it's all about context.

A compilation of all Switch Witch questions

Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? Dec 22nd to Jan 3rd.   Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors? I love Firefly, and I'd adore a Kaylee parasol or a painted paper parasol in other colors.   Hand beaded jewellery, yay or nay? Yay.   Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself? The finished jewelry.   Everyone who wants a beaded potholder, please to be raising the hands! Sure.   To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement? Definitely.   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc? Yes to all. Especially hairsticks and clips -- either the tiny butterfly clips (they can go around a bun) or fairly large ones (my hair is really quite long at this point, approx thigh length). I like the clips that snap into place and function sort of like barrettes, too. And decorative hair pins. But hair sticks are probably safest.   If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like? All cookies are treasured. When left to my own devices, I choose peanut butter, chocolate chip, butterscotch chip, spice, almond, shortbread, russian tea cookies... But there are lots outside of these that I love, so.   Anyone else a total nerd like me and would like DnD/Roleplay stuff (Dice, minis, books, corny tees, etc.)? Yup! Dice and books, definitely, but I'll pass on the minis. Corny tees only if they're babydoll or women's tees, and in dark colors. And I've played most of the major roleplaying systems, but more D&D, White Wolf (Exalted, WoD and nWoD, Adventure, Trinity), and Shadowrun than anything else.   Cat hair? No worries.   Who (of course excluding Schackjj ) would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.? I would adore tall tall stripey socks. I wear 8/8.5 in shoes and have quite thick calves. Dark rainbow; blues, purples, aquas, dark greens or olive, dark orange, browns, red (on the darker side), wine, extremely dark pink, black.   What witch would like a cloak? Cloaks are awesome.   Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers? Sadly, I live in San Diego and there is no winter here. Hats and warm mittens are pretty much a no-go. Though, I do occasionally like to wear very light gloves, and arm warmers aren't actually a bad idea. I enjoy leg warmers, too.   So, question all- how do people feel about unusual ornaments? As in, for holidays other than Christmas? Amused and curious. No yarn for me, please -- I don't really craft. Stationary, origami paper, and visual art supplies are probably my limit.   Question for future witchee: Would you like to receive ATCs or would you prefer something more usable, like bookmarks or something? It's all good.   Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Like with transfers I made myself.... As long as they're a style I'd wear (babydoll preferably), having unique stuff on them sounds awesome.   Another question! How does everyone feel about steampunk? (It's my new obsession, so I thought I'd ask.) I adore it.   I love burning mix CDs, since I have tonnnns lying around and they're cheap and relatively fast to make. Problem is, 90% of my music is not English; I have a lot of Japanese, Korean and even some songs in French! Would my potential Witchee be up for some stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words? (I have some veeeery catchy songs I've caught even my mother humming along!) Hell yes! Especially the French, and especially stuff that's not toooooo pop. And thanks for asking this question -- I've got a bunch of underground Chinese rock, punk, sort-of-folk, and post-rock I acquired over the summer that I might make mixes of to send, come to think of it.   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? High-quality dark chocolate, especially with nuts or unusual flavors. Though I also like Cadbury's milk fruit and nut bars, so it's not like milk is the anathema or anything. I like wacky asian candies, especially those lychee gummies and jellies, and weird flavors of Pocky. I also like most things featuring almonds or peanut butter, and I like spicy things, and mint, and ginger, and flower-flavored candies. I also like some fruit-flavored things -- Starburst, Skittles, etc... even Smarties. Chocolate-covered cinnamon Altoids are pretty amazing, too. The only thing I can think of that I really dislike is licorice. I guess I'm not that fond of nougat, though I do like Snickers because of all the other yummy stuff in them. Mostly I'm pretty easy to please on the sweets front.   It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy? Earl grey tea, mint tea, other kinds of tea (chocolate mint rooibus, yum), spicy hot chocolate, mulled apple cider, yummy flavored lattes and mochas...   favorite coffee beverage: currently either caramel lattes with real caramel or a double lava chill -- basically a frappe-type frozen coffee drink with two shots of espresso and mexican chocolate.   I love Christmas music even though I'm pagany -- how about you? Some Christmas music is awesome, some of it not so much. Obscure gorgeous classical/early music/celtic/choral sorts of things preferred.   Anyone else have a sudden and unexpected favorite BPAL lately? Love-in-idleness. It was a frimp, and I was surprised at how much I liked it.   So ... what other knitters/crocheters/crafters like to reclaim yarn from other finished projects. Nope. Just not really a crafty sort of person. I suppose I could always give it to my housemate, though. Especially if it's really nice yarn.   What Winter Holiday do celebrate? Solstice, I guess? And Chinese New Year. But I like Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year's, pretty much everything.   Do any of you like puzzle books? Yup! Of most kinds -- crosswords are great, sudoku is fun (though I like the really complex/difficult ones, by now), logic puzzles are terrific, etc. It's all good.   Do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips? I do like to cook, though I don't get much of a chance to these days. Pretty much everything! Yes, yes, yes to all.   Would anyone care for some Jolikia peppers? Sure!   What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here. Well, I've been having pretty serious burnout issues with grad school, bad enough that I'm probably going to be taking some time off. I believe that in the end I'll be better off for it, but in the meantime, it's been fairly hellish.   And.... what fashion item or style do you like, but never wear? Hats. I adore the idea of hats, and I've been told I look good in them, but they tend to drive me crazy when I actually try to wear them.   Are there any other forums that you frequent? None really besides this and livejournal.   Does anyone get help from significant others, children, or others not involved in the forums on their Switch Witch? I've never done this before, but I probably will!   Do you like honey? Will you like to try creamy honey with black sesame or with cinnamon powder? Oh my goodness. I love honey, and I both love cinnamon and seriously adore black sesame (any candy-like thing that involves black sesame has my automatic approval).   Who are your forum friends, person or people your witch can contact for ideas? /o\ I think I'm too new to have any? At least purely from a bpal perspective. cortneyofeden and I are friends in real life, at least.   Houseplants and/or things to put them in: thoughts? I am an extremely bad houseplant mommy, I'm afraid. Even cacti are not safe.   Do you like baskets, jars and other interesting containers? Filled or Empty? I have tons of little boxes that I was thinking of decoupaging and sending along... Yes, please, I love containers! Especially relatively small containers that might be good for holding imps. I repurposed almost all of my jewelry boxes, but I ran out of room long ago. I love love love boxes, especially. So flat and stackable and full of promise!   New question: Shoe size? Style of shoe preferred? Any interest in slippers? mine: 8 or 8.5, wide is often preferred but regular is fine in some brands and styles. I like boots, mary jane style shoes, and sandals (everything from classy strappy sandals to flipflops), mostly, though I've been wearing Mia jelly flats a lot recently. I wear flats more than heels, though sometimes a nice sturdy square or flared heel with good balance will work. I prefer rounded toes, though square can also be good, but I'm not so fond of pointy toes unless they are really extremely pointy in a costumey sort of way. And I like the idea of slippers, of any number of different styles.   To my witch: I'm so sorry I don't have a wishlist up yet! The quarter ends early next week and I'll put together a list asap after that and drop a note here. Also, I'm compiling all my answers to questions on my forum blog.   What jewelry are you wearing now? Where now = earlier today: dangly earrings (stud post) with small faceted black crystals and teardrop-shaped cubic zirconia at the end and a small round cubic zirconia at the top and black findings, 1 silver and black square ring, 1 diamond-shaped silver and marcasite ring.   What jewelry do you wear everyday-or do you change jewelry all the time? My usual pair of earrings is a dangly set with a teardrop-shaped black faceted bead at the end and black findings (leverback, my favorite), but sometimes I wear a small delicate gold wire set that's hoop style with a tiny dangling pearl bead instead. I also often wear my MIT class ring, a fairly hefty burnished gold rectangular ring. And if my top allows it, I wear choker-length necklace made of tiny black faceted crystals and a reasonably large rectangular reddish agate. I always think I'll switch up my jewelry more, but I do tend to default to a few pieces day-to-day. But sometimes I cycle.   Which witches would want Bpal boxes? Or imp cases? Yes! So much yes! There are few things I want more in the world than bpal bottle and imp boxes and cases.   Would you like a handmade piece of calligraphy as a gift? Sure!   How about a short - or longer - piece of fanfic? Quite possibly. If you want to go with this option, I'd recommend figuring out some way of asking me for further info.   And there was a question about literary erotica? I am generally in favor.   What is the weirdest and/or most practical thing you are not buying for yourself right now? The thing that you probably should be buying, but have been putting off in lieu of something else? Weirdest: Those steampunk blocks (http://www.xylocopa.com/product/mad-science-alphabet-blocks)? Or... a corset? Most practical: Skirts. Financial software. Parallels for Mac. Thing I should be buying but have been putting off in lieu of something else: New glasses. Mostly because I just don't have time, less because I've been buying other stuff instead. Oh, and conditioner.   Do you read graphic novels/comics? Which ones? Yes! Current: Runaways, Umbrella Academy, Fables, Echo. Older: Sandman, Strangers in Paradise, Promethea, Blue Monday, Athena, Charm School, JTHM, Castle Waiting, Preacher, League of Extraordinary Gentleman, Small Favors, Here is Greenwood, Hopeless Savages, Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind, Persepolis. Read some, will be reading more: Saiyuki, Inu Yasha, From Eroica with Love, Girl Genius, Batman, Teen Titans. Read one volume, want to read more: Y the Last Man, Lucifer. Want to read: Transmetropolitan.   What cartoons did you grow up watching? Any animated shows you still watch? Muppet Babies, Care Bears, Gummi Bears, Jem, Smurfs, Talespin, Ducktales, Animaniacs, My Little Ponies, Bugs Bunny, Tom & Jerry, She-ra, Flintstones, Jetsons... I watch the occasional Batman Beyond and Batman: The Animated Series, and I'll probably watch Teen Titans eventually. I also watch the occasional anime (Saiyuki, Here is Greenwood, Escaflowne, Kino's Journey, Kimagure Orange Road, everything Studio Ghibli (Whispers of the Heart, Laputa, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, etc)).   Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL wishlist during the round? I.. might? Once I have a wishlist? But I'll be sure to update the wishlist right away, and drop a note here and in my blog.   Do you like baskets, jars and other interesting containers? Filled or Empty? [An addendum to my previous statement of yes, please, especially boxes.] Just a note to say that filled with stuff is also great!   Chia Pet, do you need one? Probably not?   What are 3 places that you'd like to visit, or re-visit? Visit: Egypt, Greece, Persia. (Or Morocco! I can't decide!) Re-visit: Japan (especially Kyoto and Hokkaido), Italy (especially Rome and Venice), Budapest. *facepalm* It's possible I'm a historian, can you tell? The only reason China's not on the list is because I already know I'm going back there.   New question: Favorite animals? Least favorite? Big cats (especially tigers, panthers), bears (my last name means bear in Chinese), dragons, hedgehogs. On the domestic animal front I'm pretty fond of black and grey domestic shorthair cats, maltese cats, black labs, scottish terriers, westland terriers. Somewhat unusual animals I like: jellyfish, octopi, spiders, and bats. I also like horses. I'm not sure if I actually have a least favorite animal... I like most animals, really. Maybe mosquitos.   New question: How do you feel about Heifer International? Or do you have other favorite charities not mentioned in your application? I really like Heifer International. I'm also fond of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, the Woman's Lunch Place in Boston, Lambda Legal, CARE, IMPACT Bay Area (women's self defense), and Doctors Without Borders.

Questions 3

What cartoons did you grow up watching? Any animated shows you still watch? Where to start 'cause I love me some cartoons! Batman the Animated Series, Superman the Animated Series, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman Beyond (I am missing Batman: SubZero, Teen Titans and Static Shock from the DC Animated Timmverse). Anamaniacs, Tiny Toons, Ducktales, Doug, Darkwing Duck, Thundercats, Tailspin, Gummy Bears, Rainbow Brite, He-Man, She-Ra, Danger Mouse, Powerpuff Girls, and that is all I can think of right now.   Do you like honey? Will you like to try creamy honey with black sesame or with cinnamon powder? I'm not a big fan of honey, I bake with it and use it on pancakes if I am out of maple syrup but that's it.   What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here. Um, life has been pretty good lately. I used to be anorexic but have had that under control for sometime now. Same with depression. I'm still raw over my grandmother's passing last September but that may have more to do with the Christmas season than anything else. I am keeping from my friends and family that I've started up contact with an ex (we had a long saga like relationship that makes neither of us look good but if you want to know just ask) who I may have been wrong about but I don't know. Right now it is just an email here or there and his mother (I'm pretty sure) is quite ill. I don't know where it is going and I don't know what's going to happen and I can't tell anyone who knows me about it because they'll make judgements I'm not ready for.   What fashion item or style do you like, but never wear? Rings I love but don't wear because of work. Hats I don't wear because my sisters are cruel mocking creatures sometimes.   Do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips? I cook and bake all the time so any and all of the above are awesome.   Do any of you like puzzle books? I like them (not soduku or crosswords though), but I don't do them. Usually only during long waits and car rides. Last time was in the Spring while visiting my sister in the hospital.

STILL more questions! :D

Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself? I fail at arts and crafts -- someone do it for me! :X   do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips? I cook but not often enough to warrant my own spice rack.   What Winter Holiday do celebrate? Xmas, the non-religious version more about the commercial fun and holiday spirit.   Do any of you like puzzle books? I love word searches and brain teasers!~   Are there any other forums that you frequent? Makeupalley, Tokidoki Forum, GameFaqs, TelevisionWithoutPity   holiday music? Sure! Nothing religious though. I looove classical versions of my faves (white christmas, silver bells, carol of the bells)   What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here. My IBS which flares up from time to time. Not fun.   And.... what fashion item or style do you like, but never wear? I love scarves to wear indoors around my neck.

SW Questions: Part 1

So here goes with the questions...   Question for future witchee: Would you like to receive ATCs or would you prefer something more usable, like bookmarks or something?   Either is fine, I never manage to use bookmarks anyway, it's old receipts all the way.   Everyone who wants a beaded potholder, please to be raising the hands!   I also wonder about the utility of beaded potholders, but why not?   Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers?   Being a knitter I have quite the collection, though now that I've moved to a warmer climate I don't know how often I'm going to use them. But I only have one pair of mittens, I could use more of those.   Who would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.?   I have *tons* of handknit socks since it's about all I knit, but I never say no to more. I wear a size 6ish shoe (I usually make the finished foot 9" including the toe). Blue! Love cables, ribs, and lace. Colorwork is one thing I don't currently have in my socks!   If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like?   Oooo, any kind of cookie. Molasses... butterscotch chip... biscottti. Now I'm going to have to go make cookies.   Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Like with transfers I made myself....   I like t-shirts! I've even made a few stenciled ones myself.   Another question! How does everyone feel about steampunk? (It's my new obsession, so I thought I'd ask.)   I don't think I quite "get" what steampunk is, but I think the steampunked keyboards are pretty nifty.   So, question all- how do people feel about unusual ornaments? As in, for holidays other than Christmas?   I don't really use ornaments at all, but I have no problem with unusual vs. normal.   Anyone else a total nerd like me and would like DnD/Roleplay stuff (Dice, minis, books, corny tees, etc.)?   Nope, one hobby I haven't picked up on.   Who likes yarn? What kinds/colors/weights/fibers? Handspun? Glitter? Funky art yarn made from shredded jeans, fake flowers, lace, sequins, and the tattered souls of your enemies? Other craft supplies you desperately want more of and can't live without?   I love yarn! Generally sock yarn in any fiber except silk. Handspun is extra yummy, glitter is GO, and art yarn is interesting if not always practical.   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc?   I wish I could, my hair doesn't do accessories other than simple hairbands to hold it in a ponytail on occasion. I told this to my friend and she didn't believe me til she tried to do my hair with clips one night and they were sliding out halfway through dinner.   Hand beaded jewelery, yay or nay?   Yay!   To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement?   I have been dying to try Tim Tams even since I heard of them - provided they're vegetarian of course.   Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail?   Not that I know of, and even if I were my address would still work.   Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors?   *raises hand* I'm a big fan of Firefly and Serenity, although I don't know what I would do with a Kaylee parasol. Like big enough to use or just for decoration?   It seems like are quite a few knitting witches, so I assume they are on the Ravelry forum as well. If so, what are your names on there so I can stalk you?   I'm stariel on Ravelry too. I'm stariel everywhere.   Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself?   I'd rather get the finished item, I'm not that much of a beader so I'm sure my witch could do it better.   Do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips?   I do like to cook, but I bake more. Vegetarian recipes (especially Indian and Thai food) and recipes for baked goods are always welcome. I have quite a few cookbooks that I don't use much, but if there's an amazing one you know of then by all means.   Do any of you like puzzle books?   A friend tried to get me into Sudoku, and though I do enjoy it I don't often have the motivation to go start one - if I do I can't rest til it's finished.   I love Christmas music even though I'm pagany -- how about you?   Not really. I like to sing and there are a few Christmas carols that I sing, but I don't actually listen to Christmas music.   Anyone else have a sudden and unexpected favorite BPAL lately?   I have an ongoing obsession with Succubus, but that's really not unexpected or sudden. I just got an imp of Lolita and loved it at first sniff...   It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy?   I love hot chocolate, chai, other tea, and hot apple cider (cold too!). When I'm going out I'm all about peppermint mochas.   Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words?   Not understanding the words isn't a huge issue for me, but I'm rather picky about music. I really can't stand any rap / R&B or most country music, and I'm not into pop much either. And then even with genres of music I supposedly like (prog rock, metal, grunge, alternative, some punk), I'm very picky artist to artist - often for reasons I can't explain and which no one else seems to grasp.   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive?   I love marzipan and caramel, both chocolate-covered. I also like chocolate with nuts and sometimes fruit - like orange or cranberry... yum! And cookies are a favorite as well.

Switch witch fun questionairre.

just hope my Witchee likes coffee, tea, goat milk soap, lip balm, etc. Those are the things I can totally spoil them with -- without spending a fortune. well i'm partial to tea but i'm not really one for coffee, it makes me sleepy. I've never tried goat milk soap and i love salves and balms, lips and other places. What witch would like a cloak? I know i would certanly be happy with a new winter cloak. the one i have currently i cant wear all that often due to my husband's wool allergy. Would you like to receive ATCs (artist trading cards) or would you prefer something more usable, like bookmarks or something? well i tend to lose bookmarks so i dont tend to use anything important as such and i have a kitty who loves putting holes in wood-fiber products.... prolly not the best thing for me Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers? like hats, like arm warmers. dont like mittens or gloves because they always seem to make the hands colder for me. but then again i know i have wonky circulation. If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like? well nothing with nuts. Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Like with transfers I made myself.... well all my t-shirts get stolen by my husband.... Another question! How does everyone feel about steampunk? (It's my new obsession, so I thought I'd ask.) I love girl genius. who (of course excluding Schackjj ) would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.? I always like socks. but they cannot be wool. size 9 for shoes so.... and as for paterns and colours i'm easy. i like surprizes. So, question all- how do people feel about unusual ornaments? As in, for holidays other than Christmas? well with cats around the only time i have them out is for christmas and even then they arent out for long. But i do love kitschy ornaments and unusual ones like the golden apple i got which had kalistri scratched onto it. (geeky moment) On a similar note, who likes yarn? What kinds/colors/weights/fibers? Handspun? Glitter? Funky art yarn made from shredded jeans, fake flowers, lace, sequins, and the tattered souls of your enemies? Other craft supplies you desperately want more of and can't live without? well i have some yarn around but the balls i can see are the cat toy ones.... yeah they play with yarn. as for other craft supplies... kitschy cloth for quilting, non kitschy cloth for quilting, quilting thread.... well i think you get the idea. D&D/roleplay? ummm i have a set of savorski crystal d6. my husband has nearly all of the TMNT roleplaying books. my roomie is a former rifts GM. so i guess i would have to say yes i like it happy.gif Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc? Oh yeah!!! i have ass length hair and i'm 5'4 so it gets put up alot. sadly i keep breaking the hair sticks i get. mecry.gif the hair is heavy and it likes gravity. so anything hair related is good. Hand beaded jewellery, yay or nay? well i dont really wear much jewelry. the only constant piece is the plain gold wedding band and my little hoop earings. not prone to the flashy displays of bling. If i do get it simple works best and if anyone can make sturdy chain (preferably in a way that doesnt eat my hair) for wearing pendants i'd like that. To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement? sure. i liked the ones my MIL sent us for yule last year. Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? not as far as i know. Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors? /me raises a hand. In fact i'm kinda mad with my hubby over his stretching out my nice serenity shirt. i have a plain red parasol but a proper kaywinnet lee fry parasol would be shiny. (laughs and calls herself a geek again)

Winter SW random questions part I

What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here. Long standing mental health issues - mostly depression/anxiety... and paradoxically, therapy. I mean, therapy is the best thing I've ever done but it's also very intense and at times unbearably difficult so there are days when I get back from a therapy session and just want to crawl into bed and hide from the world...   What fashion item or style do you like, but never wear? Corset/waspie style waist belts. I always admire them but wouldn't know when to wear them...   Do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips? I do like cooking and spices and vegetarian cookbooks are very welcome.   Do any of you like puzzle books? No, not really.   I love Christmas music even though I'm pagany -- how about you? Only if it's a bit more "indie"... maybe general winter music instead of Christmas music. Although I've been listening to a gothic Christmas album I downloaded (Black Noel) and it's really quite good.   Anyone else have a sudden and unexpected favorite BPAL lately? No but a sudden and unexpected favourite Villainess - Retrograde perfume! I'm currently contemplating just how many bottles I can allow myself to order... at least 2 for sure. As for BPAL, I've been trying to spend more time discovering new GC loves out of my huge pile of yet untested imps. Black Rose is one of my new loves.   It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy? Tea and hot chocolate. And hot Ribena, which might be a UK thing? Ribena is a blackcurrant juice.   Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words? As someone who has a native language (Finnish) most people don't understand, that's no problem at all!   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? Chocolate is always good! I'm vegetarian so can't eat many of my old favourite sweets because they have gelatine in them.   Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself? Beads. Unless you make jewellery that is very different from my style in which case handmade jewellery is great, too. But I'm not really the best person to buy jewellery for because I make it.   Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors? Not a Browncoat at all, sorry.   Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? No, I will be here all the time.   To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement? Absolutely! Well, if they're vegetarian?   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc? Clips and grips are best. My hair is very silky and nothing tends to stay in it so hairsticks are pretty much out... Yarn is very good although I have to admit I hardly get time to knit anything these days. But maybe if I had yarn sent to me, then I might feel inspired! As for other craft supplies, I have a weakness for rubber stamps.   Anyone else a total nerd like me and would like DnD/Roleplay stuff (Dice, minis, books, corny tees, etc.)? No, not for me.   Question: who would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.? I would love handknit socks! For the past four years I've been wearing these socks my grandmother knit me as bed socks or just at home when it's cold. Colour preference - something black, grey or purple, or deep red. I would mostly likely wear them indoors and to bed so whatever seems suitable for that. Size is UK 4/EU 37.   How does everyone feel about steampunk? Quite neutral, really. I'm not crazy about it, but I don't have anything against it either. The jewellery is not really me.   Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers? Yes, all of them. Arm warmers especially are much loved and needed.   If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like? Anything really - maybe chocolate chip?   Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Like with transfers I made myself.... I do! I usually wear a tshirt under a cardigan when it's colder. Homemade is good!   What witch would like a cloak? That would be amazing! Something black with maybe purple lining, or just pure black.

Winter Switch Witch Questions #2

What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here.   My father passed away this summer. Since my mother passed away 8 years ago and my brother is working on his Professional Weasel certificate, this leaves me essentially orphaned, in respect to blood family. I'm coping with it, but I don't expect that this is going to be a fun holiday season for me. I have friends that I'll see (and friends that I won't see) and the same goes for the extended family, but that doesn't change the fact that there are family traditions that are just dead now. Unless I do them alone. So I'm going to stop here so that I don't get too rambly or self-pitying.   What fashion item or style do you like, but never wear?   Er. I tend to wear the things I like, even when the things I like might end up making me look a little unusual. I'm pretty content with looking unusual.   Do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips?   I love to cook, though I don't have the time for it that I generally have. I tend to be overly fond of my crockpot and frequently wish that I had a larger one. I like being able to dump stuff in there and have it be food by the time I wake up in the morning or come home from work in the evening. Cookbooks -- yes. Particularly cookbooks that are written for people who like yummy food but have little time to prepare meals and don't eat much meat. (I eat chicken and fish, but no red meat and very little pork.) Ditto spices. And crockpot recipes, especially for fun cheesey and veggie dishes, are always appreciated.   Do any of you like puzzle books?   Variety puzzle books, logic problems. I don't need any more suduko books or kukuro books since at this point in my life, I have enough of these books to do a puzzle a day forever and not run out.   I love Christmas music even though I'm pagany -- how about you?   Honestly, no. Normally, yes, but this year I'm very much the Grinch/Scrooge. I take comfort in knowing that I should be back to normal eventually, but this year, I'm finding that every time I hear a holiday song, I feel compelled to immediately make it go away.   Anyone else have a sudden and unexpected favorite BPAL lately?   Nah. They're all my loves. I'm such a fickle girl when it comes to scent.   It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy?   Tea. Caffeinated and herbal. I wish passionate for a HUGE travel mug that won't spill and will fit into my car's cupholder. I also look at the blooming teas and the large glass teapots on a regular basis, but I can't decide what I want to get so I don't. I also adore hot chocolate and when it isn't a 'school morning' drink, I tend to add a little peppermint or raspberry schnapps to spice it up. Again, I wish for a larger travel mug that didn't fall over in my car because it actually fit in my cupholder.   Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words?   Absolutely. Especially if it has a good beat to bellydance to!

Winter 2008-2009 Switch Witch Questions!

What are 3 places that you'd like to visit, or re-visit? I'd love to go to Egypt and England and revisit Ireland (I was 10 when I went and was more interested in playing Intellivision with my cousins than seeing the sights.   Literary erotica. Who doesn't love it? Not for me, thanks.   Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL wishlist during the round? Not really, unless I see a blinking sale sign that says, "PUMPKIN KING- $3!"   Do you read graphic novels/comics? Which ones? I've never gotten into them, although I haven't really had the opportunity. I don't really like Manga though.   Which witches would want Bpal boxes? Or imp cases? I'm ok I think.   How about a short - or longer - piece of fanfic? No thanks.   Would you like handmade piece of calligraphy as a gift? Hmm- maybe?   What cartoons did you grow up watching? Any animated shows you still watch? She-Ra, He-man, The Littles, Garfield, You Can't Do That On Television (not a cartoon, but in the same vein). Later: Ren and Stimpy, Pinky and the Brain, Histeria. Recent cartoons I love- Avatar.   What jewelry are you wearing now? What jewelry do you wear everyday-or do you change jewelry all the time? Right now nothing, I'm lazing around in my hoodie and pajama pants, but the only jewelry I wear every day without variation is my watch and my wedding ring, everything else- earrings, bracelets, necklaces, change with the day.   Houseplants and/or things to put them inI love them, but I don't have any right now because they're all dead. I have all kinds of pots for them though...   Do you like baskets, jars and other interesting containers? Filled or Empty? Yes.     Question: do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips?   I cook, but more as a means to an end. I like to eat. I kind of wish I had my own personal chef and maid. Sigh!   Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors?   I love Firefly, but don't think I'd really have a place for a parasol in our little condo.   Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? I don't think so, we might go somewhere for a couple days on our anniversary (Jan 24- 10 years!), but that would be the only thing. It wouldn't hugely matter though if we weren't home since anything delivered would be safe inside our common area.     It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy? Mmmmm- anything warm! Tea (I'm a tea fiend), coffee, cider... I'm also thinking of making some different hot beverages this year- wassail, etc. If my Witchie has any recipes for those I'd appreciate it (with or without alcohol is fine).   Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words? Sure, especially if it's something in a style I like.   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? Anything without dairy, I especially have a yen for fruitcake and Turkish Delight.   Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself?   I would prefer the end result, since I don't really make jewelry.     What Winter Holiday do celebrate? Christmas. I also am looking forward to the Solstice though (not in a religious way, but I desperately want to days to be longer).   Do any of you like puzzle books? I've never really played with them.     Are there any other forums that you frequent?   The only other one I'm on is The Long Hair Community, and there, as everywhere, I'm Arylkin (actually, I'm pretty certain I'm the only Arylkin there ever was, so if you google "Arylkin" there are tons of results (I'm not sure how I feel about that, but c'est la vie)...   Question for future witchee: Would you like to receive ATCs or would you prefer something more usable, like bookmarks or something?   I have never had an ATC, but they are playing card size, right? I'm thinking they'd be the perfect size for paperback bookmarks (as long as they're flat).     Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers?   Me please! I've actually been looking for a beret hat type thing that I can wear while my hair is in a bun/updo if some sort.   Who would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.? Oooooh- I would LOVE one!!   If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like?   I've actually never had gingerbread cookies- they sound kind of delicious... Really anything as long as there's no dairy (or chicken feet or something), although I'm not a huge fan of chocolate.   Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Like with transfers I made myself....   That would be kind of amazing!   Another question! How does everyone feel about steampunk? (It's my new obsession, so I thought I'd ask.)   I love it!   So, question all- how do people feel about unusual ornaments? As in, for holidays other than Christmas?   I don't really decorate much, so no ornaments for me.   Anyone else a total nerd like me and would like DnD/Roleplay stuff (Dice, minis, books, corny tees, etc.)?   I have kind of always wanted to do DnD/roleplaying but never have had the chance. I don't really do a lot of crafting.   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc?   I love hair things, they're kind of my new obsession, although I don't really wear scrunchies or headscarves, but I love hairsticks (as long as they aren't too long, 6-7" is perfect) and hair forks.     Hand beaded jewellery, yay or nay?   YAY!   To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement?   I would happily receive Tim Tam's nondairy counterpart, and actually, if my Witch wanted to make me some Turkish Delight I would squee. I've never had any and want to try it desperately!

First one!

Yay, my first BPAL blog entry! I'm really bad about keeping any sort of journal, but I'm on BPAL forums often enough, maybe I'll actually stick to this one.   Egad, my kids are driving me NUTS this week. Ben is sooo clingy. Every time I put him down he starts crying. It's really getting in the way of my cookie making!   Speaking of cookies.. I made a batch, and Anna got a hold of them and dumped the whole thing on the floor. I'm about ready to kill the both of them. I REALLY need to get out of the house for a while!   Anyway. On my to-do list for the rest of the night; make the rest of the cookies and get them packaged up to send out tomorrow, make dinner, clean up the kitchen, and see if I can figure out some of the footwork for bellydance moves. I don't know why I have such a hard time with that; maybe I just need a real instructor instead of a DVD.

SW Winter 2008-09: Hi!

Dear Witch,   Hi! I'll be adding stuff here that I think might be helpful to you (you can see I'm answering the questions from the thread below).   Thanks for witching me!   - Cam   12/17 Oh hai! More wish list updatage. Here's a link to my Kaboodle: http://www.kaboodle.com/cammycat   Some of the items are somewhat expensive (that's right, velvet Doc Martens, I'm talking about you), and please do not think that I remotely expect you to buy those or anything else from the list. My hubby wanted me to make a wish list for the holidays, so I've added stuff there for his perusal too. Mostly, it's just to help you get an idea of the kinds of stuff I like.   12/12 Trying to get some wish lists updated! I really didn't have them together when I submitted my questionnaire. Etsy favorites   12/10 eCard (WoW) Enquiring minds want to know:   Your realm of preference. My main is on Lightninghoof. I also have some characters on Shadow Council (my original realm; the hubby wanted to transfer to an RP-PVP server a couple months ago, so we moved the mains).   Your character(s)'s name(s), race(s), class(es), professions. Deadcam Undead Warlock Tailoring, Enchanting, Cooking, First Aid (I also have Fishing, but I never bother with it.) Here's a link to my Armory profile.   Your play style, and what sorts of things you find useful. I'm destro spec, and have always kinda stuck to that. Yeah, it would be cool to turn into a big purple demon, but I guess I just like setting stuff on fire . Of course, that means I tend to draw crazy aggro, so I have to watch it if I'm running an instance or something like that (I tend to solo a lot, especially since right now the hubby is two levels ahead of me and has already done the quests I'm working on atm -- damn phased questing!). My hubby is really into PVP, and has just recently managed to drag me into it too; I'm not very good at it yet, though.

Winter 2008 Switch Witch Q & A

This is more fun than it has any right to be.   How often do untested BPAL scents work on you? (excluding notes you already know will go bad / you dislike) Not particularly often, but I'm of the school where if a scent doesn't leap out and make sweet, sweet love to me upon wearing, I won't keep it. So I guess technically a scent might work, but if it's not magical? Into the swap box it goes. That happens perhaps 20% of the time.   What does everyone want out of the new update? (Lupercalia, Bony Moon & Earth Ox) Disappointment. A lot of the scents I got excited about had caramel in them, so that was a no. I settled on Couple Consulting An Enpon, Lovers In A Ricefield, Makhanitis, Manners Among Men & Women In The Red Light District, Pontia & Voyeurs Among The Cherry Blossoms as scents I'd like to check out. But, uh, won't 'cause I'm cheap.   Who is your favorite villain of all-time? I'm more of an anti-hero type of lady. Pete Wisdom, John Constantine, Methos, etc. are more my thing. I liked Spike before he became all Buffy-obsessed. Truth be told, no one really leaps out at me nowadays.   Does anyone like Valerie Anands books?Or her Psuedonym Fiona Buckley...? I'm not at all familiar with her, actually, but new authors are always fun.   If you could subscribe to every magazine you wanted, money no object, what would your list of magazines that would decorate your coffee table be? I worked at Barnes & Noble for a year and a half, and a few months after starting was made a full-time employee who ran the newsstand section. It made me kind of tetchy when it comes to magazines, because I have flashbacks of a sort when I handle the damn things. Lots of papercuts and cleaning up those inserts! That said, I like things like National Geographic and cooking magazines with nice photos, reasonable recipes and inventive ideas (not so much Good Housekeeping as, say, Food & Wine).   What plans does everyone have for NYE? A little late to answer this now, but my plans consisted of having a few friends over for a get-together. It was the first "official" party we've ever had in almost five years of living here. Pope and I tend to be a little slow socially. It was great fun, though!   Who is interested in the room sprays? esp. from the inquisition? Yes, please! A very generous friend gave me her bottle of L'Autumno, but I'm very interested in trying all of the room sprays. The GC ones sound especially interesting to me, and of the Inquisition Yuletide Past and Bah Humbug sounded best to me.   Who's a Disney fan? Cartoons, theme parks, or just general stuff? Kinda/sorta. I grew up Disney, basically, and do enjoy a lot of the movies. My favorites are Oliver & Co. and Fantasia, though Robin Hood is up there, too. I've always been enamored with the Pirates Of The Caribbean ride and interested in pirates besides, so the first PotC movie just kind of propelled me to fan geekery. (I have Jack Sparrow's tattoo. 'Nuff said.) I actually went to DisneyLand for the premiere of the third Pirates movie. Uh, never again, thanks.   The theme parks are love for me, though I prefer Land to World, EPCOT aside. I'm not much of a collector anymore, though some Disney-obsessed friends game me Disney cookbooks and woo boy, there's a happy combination.   Do you like mythical/fantastical creatures? Which ones? Pegasus has always interested me, especially back as a teenager when I was huge into Greek mythology. I'm actually more interested in things like lycanthropy and shape-changers than I am your standard dragons, griffins, etc. I'm passing interested in fae, but not in the sense of faeries. It's more along the lines of the seelie and unseelie courts, that sort of thing.   What's on your key chain? Depends. My house keys are on a Buttercup Power Puff Girls lanyard. Not really my thing anymore, but it's convenient. On that keychain are all my little store bonus cards and a seated pewter wolf howling at the moon. My ex-stepdad gave it to me over a decade ago, but to be honest I don't really notice it anymore. My car keys were just the key and alarm fob, as a friend had her car key bend out of shape due to all the stuff on her keychain and the key would no longer start the car. Nothin' like that to set off borderline OCD.   Do you like caramels like coconut lime? Salted? Yay caramel! I love the idea of mixing sweet and savory, so salted caramels are fab. I bought a package from Trader Joe's during my New England Thanksgiving pilgrimage (get it? har har), but was disappointed at the lack of salt to sweet. Infusing caramels with things like tea or lavender also sounds nice, though I do love me the lime, so coconut lime sounds fab!   Do you speak any languages besides English? How fluent are you? Would you be interested in literature in a foreign laguage - phrase books, fiction, childrens stories? Not even remotely fluent in anything but English. I know very, very basic Spanish -- enough to follow parts of slower conversations, get me beer and to the bathroom, etc. I know even less Yiddish, though that and Hebrew were ones I was always disappointed that I was never taught. I'd like to learn, but wouldn't even know where to start, especially since hearing pronunciation is so important in these cases.   What's your favorite animal? Wolves, closely followed by domestic dogs. I love canines as a general rule, as well as ravens and sparrows.   I'd like to know wrist size, circumference just below the elbow, and most importantly; what kind of fiber can you tolerate/not tolerate. Please be more specific than non-itchy wool. Alpaca, merino sheep's wool, silk, acrylic, stainless steel, you name it. I don't have measuring tape, unfortunately, but I know that my wrist is just over 6" -- 6 and 1/4, maybe? Just below the elbow I'd put between 9 and 10", and so far as I know I don't have any major fiber reactions, but I do prefer to avoid man-made fibers when at all possible. My familiarity with specifics isn't, uh, too specific, really.   Question to all the knitters out there, what size knitting needles do you use the most? I haven't been knitting long enough to be able to say, but I'm making my first "real" scarf right now on a pair of US 8 needles and enjoying that very much. All my needless are 9" long, though, and I'd like to try some 10" or 14" ones sometime.   How do you feel about winter-themed but not really holiday type decorations? Things like snowflakes and fake icicles and the like? I like the idea of winter-themed decorating very much, but in all honesty, it just gets too damn cold in my house for any of us to get in the decorating spirit. We don't turn the heat on very often so as to keep the bills down, and as such we're usually all huddled upstairs waiting to go to our electric blanket-heated beds.   Do you have a personal 'Good Luck' charm? Maybe you have a goddess figure to remind you of your Inner Goddess, or maybe you have a beautiful Cross to represent your faith...Or maybe you wear a Hand of Fatimah for protection....That kind of thing. Not so much. Turning into Miss Minimalist and feeling like I've spent a goodly amount of my life striking it out on my own... Well, it's made me feel like I make my own luck. Plus I have a habit of the items (jewelry, etc.) I consider to be of personal worth and thus lucky disappearing on me. Bracelets drop from my wrist into the great unknown, earrings break (just today, actually, one of a pair from my friend broke), necklace clasps snap, etc. I don't know what the world's trying to tell me, but...   If you were to attend Hogwarts, into which House would you be sorted? Oh, boy. I'm so Pottered out, it hurts. I guess I'd be a Ravenclaw, but given the choice I wouldn't even attend.   Would you be interested in some knitted wire jewelry, like this? Oh my goodness, yes. That was a stunning piece that I can only dream of creating.   This is kind of a getting-to-know-you-type-thingie, but I always find it illuminating--what's on your computer desktop? Images? Color scheme? Right now it's an image someone from Etsy used to give me feedback. It's a beautiful aerial photo of water and water-worn cliffs with caves and trees growing liberally atop the cliffs. Over the years I've veered away from fandom desktops and started to prefer using my own photos, but this one really called to me.   What do you collect...besides BPAL? Comic books (trades nowadays, really) and comic book statues. Scarves. Fedoras. Books of many shapes, sizes and colors. Bath products! I try to be less cluttered than I used to, so nowadays there isn't a ton of collecting going on.   Anyone a fan of Goddess art? I love images of women, in beautiful poses, strong women, powerful women (No- Not Hilary ROFL) I like dark, vampire types too, not *too* dark- okay for general consumption type art too. I like it the way I like Luis Royo. All well and good, but not particularly my cuppa. I also make it difficult by being picky about goddess art -- I want the strength of a woman, the power to her rather than straight-up cheesecake.   Anyone else a Luis Royo fan? I'm more familiar with the art than the artist, and even then just in passing. He's talented and has a few pieces I really, really enjoy, but I wouldn't call myself a fan.   What are your favorite websites (i.e., the ones you visit every day, or almost every day)? My own RPG, bpal.org (of course!), LiveJournal, various e-mail sites. I used to skim along the Interwebs like crazy, but nowadays I mostly just putter along and act the voyeur.   How do you feel about Lush? Anything you want to try? I like Lush rather a lot, but their price hikes since I met them 4.5 years ago have just blown me away. Unfortunately, their hair and facial products have been best for me, so while I'd like to get away from expensive Lush, I'm still buying shampoo, conditioner and face care from them. <huffs> All the nice and potentially effective alternative e-tailers I've found on this forum are, unfortunately, just about as expensive or don't have scents I enjoy.   How do you feel about home made lip balm, salt or sugar scrubs, soap, bath salts, etc? Yes, please! I would love any of the above except bath salts, as unfortunately my bath is a wreck and I'm stuck taking showers. Actually, if my witch knows of a good place to find lip scrubs or balms, I'd appreciate a tip!   If you were to receive a hand-knitted item, what color(s) would you prefer AND are there any types of yarn that you just cannot handle (e.g. wool, llama, etc.) Knitting! <333 I have a harder time with acrylics, or at least the full-blown acrylics; blends are okay. Natural fibers are love. I like vibrant, earthy colors, general deeper shades like rich blues or purples, or really any yarn that has threads of another contrasting color woven through it. I'm currently working on my first knitted item (technically just me practicing stitches, but it's taking the shape of a really ugly scarf) that's a pretty teal with tiny threads of yellow-green threaded throughout for contrast. Totally wasted on my knitting.   What is one REALLY expensive, completely outrageous thing you would LOVE to get but totally don't expect to ever get from anyone? Hm. Either the Promethea comic book statue, or the Brian Bolland Wonder Woman full-sized statue. Or the Death and Dream or Dream and Daniel full-sized book ends. Sense a theme here? <grins>   Do you like coffee mugs? Travel or stay at home? How big? Do you like ones from Starbucks? I don't have too many mugs, so larger ones for tea purposes are nice. Most of what's in my house is on the small side, which doesn't quite work for tea, IMO. Travel mugs are nice provided that they can be completely dismantled for cleaning. I currently have a lovely Pirates Of The Caribbean travel mug, but water has permeated the piratey paper inside, and it's a bitch and a half to clean. I know nothin' about Starbucks mugs, but what I've seen actually seems pretty nice.   If you drink coffee, do you like whole bean coffee or prefer ground? What grind? What roast (mild, medium, bold, extra bold)? Do you like flavored coffee? Not a coffee person. Sometimes it smells nice, and while coffee ice cream or chocolate-covered coffee beans are a bit of all right, I just can't seem to drink coffee unless it's heavily iced and sugared.   Do you like tea? What kinds of tea (green, red, white, black, decaf, herbal infusions)? Feel free to get specific on brands and tea types. Loose or bagged? Do you need any kind of tea accessories? Pots/cozys/presses/strainers? Tea! I love loose leaf tea, but have none of the accoutrements needed -- strainers, teapots, etc. I basically have a tea kettle I bought on clearance because it was dinged up, and a deep and abiding love for tea. Chai is my new favorite, though I'm having a hard time finding spicier versions -- the one brand I found was, again, on clearance and now can't be found in WNY anymore. <kicks ground> Blacks are great, as are herbals and fruitier teas provided that the tannins don't go batshit crazy. Honestly, I'll drink anything.   What is your favorite hot chocolate or drinking chocolate? Do you need Vegan or no? Not a vegan here. The idea of drinking chocolate is fascinating to me, but I'm too cheap to purchase stuff like that for myself, so usually I just get gifted with powdered hot chocolate and kind of suck it up. Chocolate with spices, especially chile, is love. Same with mint or really anything that prevents it from being super sweet. My only no-go is white chocolate.   Do you need any decanting supplies? Pipettes? Vials? How about any wand caps? Roller bottles? Some spray bottles (for oils mixed with alcohol?) My last witch, Neyahala, was a clever and kind lady when she gave me wand caps. I would definitely dig on more of those, along with perhaps a roller bottle to play with; I have no idea how to go about that stuff.   I wanted to ask a question: are there any rare (or even uber-rare) scents that you'd really like to try? Um... <pulls from wishlist> Day Of The Skulls, Sugar Skull, To Autumn, Bad Luck Woman Blues, Chanukkiyah, Earth Phoenix, Fire Phoenix, Lydia, Mead Moon, Metal Phoenix, Schwarzer Mond, Wood Phoenix, Hanerot Halalu, Nuclear Winter, Snow Bunny, Snow White. I try to avoid the uber-rare scents because I'm never quick enough on the draw to catch/find 'em (a la Pokemon), and in all honesty, I just don't want to get obsessed with something I can't have.   Does your forum name have a special significance? Refer to something or someone you admire? Reflect your interests? Come on, spill! I used to read Marvel Comics' Excalibur series, and one of the characters in that book took on the codename Tapestry, which I immediately picked up for one of my own fanfic-ish characters. She's stuck with me since I was twelve -- well over a dozen years now -- and for the convenience of it being a fairly easy-to-remember name, I've just kept using it since.   What's your favorite texture? I have a hard time nailing down specific fabrics, but if it's soft and nubby, I'm bound to love it. Natural fibers are my preference, which of course affects price. For bath products it's probably a good quality soap or sugar scrub. For food, I seesaw between crunch and that velvety texture really good soups have.   What's one luxury item you want to pamper yourself with but haven't yet? Probably one of El's creatures. That or a new digital camera, preferably one I can't break within a week of owning.   Do you prefer arm warmers to the wrist, to the base of the fingers, or half fingered? Hm. Half-fingered ones are my favorite, though I'd definitely be willing to take any arm warmers in light of where I live!   Any favorite cartoon characters? Disney, Sanrio, etc? Bob from ReBoot. The cast of Gargoyles. I like various cartoons, but those are my two loves.   Have you (or maybe the younguns in your family) been exposed to the Webkinz craze? Who's your favorite playwright? Alas, I'm not cultured enough to have one, though Tom Stoppard tends to duke it out with Shakespeare for me.   Anyone into physical activities? For instance- I'm training to become a Combat Archer in the SCA, and something I would use would be an Archers glove...is there anything you do as a sport/hobby in which you might need equipment? I haven't even been to the gym in months. It's embarrassing.   Are there any witchy type supplies you're in need of, or would like to try etc.? Herbs, smudge sticks, resins, tarot/oracle cards, incense burners, pretty tools, stuff like that? I'd be a piss-poor witch, though I do covet the Vertigo Tarot Deck. DC is re-releasing it, and OMG!   On nut intolerance - does it include things like almond/coconut oil bases and essential oils in perfume oils, skincare products, scented candles and the like? No nut issues here!   If you are a fan, who were your favorite Buffy and Angel characters? Meh. Not so much a fan anymore; I'm burned out on Joss. I liked Spike until he started obsessing over Buffy. I also loved Willow until her character went all over the frigging place. Now I guess my preferred characters would be Giles and Wesley.   Do you like Shakespeare? Which plays? My favorite of Shakespeare's work is Hamlet. I love the Kenneth Branagh version of the movie, and just about died of joy when it came out on DVD! I also have a passing fondness for The Tempest, and A Midsummer Night's Dream -- I've got the version with Kevin Kline floating around on DVD somewhere, and love it almost as much as I do my Branagh Hamlet.   Question for the Class: Favorite Musical? The Producers, although I like The Scarlet Pimpernel and would like to see Spam-a-lot.   How do you like your chocolate? White, milk, bittersweet, as dark as possible? Plain, with flavoring, with chunks of stuff in? Fairly traditional, or weird and experimental? I like milk chocolate and dark chocolate, but have yet to have white chocolate I liked -- it's usually too sugary-sweet. Cadbury Fruit & Nut bars were my great weakness for awhile (along with those candy-coated eggs they release at Easter), and while I usually don't like nuts in candy or ice cream, I'm getting over that. I love weird, "experimental" food and that includes in my chocolate. Vosges is love.   Favorite animals? Least favorite? Canids; I love wolves and dogs especially. Corvids; I have a thing about ravens, although am charmed by crows even if it's not nearly as much. I'm a bit soured on cats -- like 'em, but once the two cats currently in my life are gone, that's it and I'm done. The only animals I really dislike are certain insects: silverfish, maggots, roaches, centipedes and millipedes. I'm okay with spiders and actually kind of like the little guys.   How do you feel about Heifer International? Or do you have other favorite charities not mentioned in your application? Funnily enough, I read about Heifer International for the first time the day before this question popped up. I like the premise behind what they do and with a little additional research would probably be willing to support them. I lean towards supporting cancer research, but that's from losing family and tends to conflict with my views on overpopulation. <realizes she sounds creepy and shuts up> Uh, and I'm also big on animal rescue and wildlife conservation.   So for all witches of the shimmying types- would you like tassel belts/jingle belts/ ect and if so, how big are your hips? No shimmying here, I'm afraid.   What are 3 places that you'd like to visit, or re-visit? NYC has always been home in my mind, and it drives me nuts that I haven't been there since I was living in Massachusetts. Needless to say, New York City is highest on my list. I'd also like to visit New Zealand and Greece, having never been. That's a very pared down version of my travel list.   Literary erotica. Who doesn't love it? Another one of my questions which I think got funnily misinterpreted. I meant actual, older literature. I'm fairly blase about erotica as a general rule -- much prefer to be a dirty lecher with another person -- but stories like Alan Moore's Lost Girls was very interesting to me, and I can't say no to antiquated porno.   Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL wishlist during the round? Probably not. Money is going to be very tight for the next six months minimum, so I'll be cutting down on me-purchases for awhile.   Do you read graphic novels/comics? Which ones? Oh, god. The Question for me. Astro City, Top Ten, Promethea (favorite!), Preacher, Hellblazer, Runaways (sometimes), Ex Machina (favorite!), Excalibur, Kabuki, Iron Man (sometimes), She-Hulk, The Ultimates (older issues), Transmetropolitan (favorite!), Sandman (favorite!), The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V For Vendetta, Watchmen, Desolation Jones, Fables, Powers, and it goes on and on and on. If you want all of the titles, just ask and I'll rattle that off when I get home.   Which witches would want Bpal boxes? Or imp cases? Yes, please! I am shit for storage right now. I have a box for bottles, but I'm paranoid that they're going to smash together and break. >_< I keep my imps in plastic baggies. <hangs head>   How about a short - or longer - piece of fanfic? I don't seek fanfic out anymore nowadays. I used to all the freakin' time, but life, age, etc. I do like Kitty Pryde/Pete Wisdom stories if done well, or probably anything about any of my favorite characters. That said, my favorite stories tend to involve my RPG characters.   What is the weirdest and/or most practical thing you are not buying for yourself right now? The thing that you probably should be buying, but have been putting off in lieu of something else? I should be buying a new router for the house, but Christmakkuh shopping has been taking priority. I've also been meaning to buy some new rat hammocks and cage mats for the three boys/two cages -- keeps 'em warm and comfortable in the winter -- but something else inevitably seems more important at the time.   Would you like handmade piece of calligraphy as a gift? Oh my goodness, yes!   What jewelry are you wearing now? What jewelry do you wear everyday-or do you change jewelry all the time? Today, nothing other than a stretched-out hair elastic. I wear my clocket now and again. I also have a plain silver chain I wear on occasion in addition to a gold bracelet, some plain silver hoops and a small handful of cheap earrings. I like rings a lot and wear all kinds of jewelry so long as it's either simple or only has one extravagant focal point, but rarely on a daily basis.   Boxes, baskets, etc.? See: the awesomeness of storage.   Chia Pet, do you need one? No plants for me. <woe>   Houseplants and/or things to put them in: thoughts? Probably not. It's the dead of winter for me right now, and we can't afford to turn the heat on in my house very often, not to mention the lack of sun. Combine that with three cats, and, well...   Do you like baskets, jars and other interesting containers? Filled or Empty? I friggin' love storage, especially if it's decorative. Empty, filled, whatever!   Who are your forum friends, person or people your witch can contact for ideas? My best friend and roommate is Pope. I'm offline friends with The_Witching_Hour. Rackham's Vanity is my other best friend. Neyahala was my witch from last round.   What cartoons did you grow up watching? Any animated shows you still watch? Anything from the '80s with an emphasis on the girlier shows rather than Voltron. A lot of early '90s cartoons from Saturday mornings, including obscure shit I can't even remember the names of but would know if I saw. I live for ReBoot and Gargoyles, but those are the only kids shows I still have an interest in.   Do you like honey? Will you like to try creamy honey with black sesame or with cinnamon powder? Love honey. Love interesting honey. Love.   What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here. The lack of my mother's mother and my father's father. My grandma passed away ten years ago; I went to her funeral and haven't seen her since. My grandfather died two years ago; no one told me about it for five months. It's frustrating, because they were the best parents I'd had. I ran away from my mother eight years ago and we no longer talk. I left my father almost five years ago, and we don't talk, either. Needless to say, I miss my grandparents a lot.   What fashion item or style do you like, but never wear? Steampunksteampunksteampunk. It's out of my budget and my neck of the woods is not overly conducive to cobbling outfits together. I could, I guess, but haven't searched. Mostly I just suck. <facepalms>   Do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips? I live to cook; it soothes me and I get to eat, so best of both worlds. Cookbooks I only have three of, but they're something I enjoy in a roundabout way -- one of Nigella Lawson's is on an active wishlist at the moment, which is not at all like me. Tips are super, recipes from my witch would be incredible. I have some spices and could and would always use more.   Do any of you like puzzle books? Not particularly. I like them generally, but knowing me would never find the time for them.   I love Christmas music even though I'm pagany -- how about you? Oh, my. No, thank you. I sound like such a Scrooge, I know, but I am burnt out on X-Mas for a number of reasons. I try to avoid X-Mas music as a general rule so that I don't crab at people who would rather enjoy the holiday (and rightfully so).   Anyone else have a sudden and unexpected favorite BPAL lately? Nope! Dorian and Casanova are still my favorites (and I have a bottle of Dorian now thanks to my fall witch! <3!) for the moment. Nothing too sudden or unexpected there.   It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy? Tea, always tea. I'm sadly out of my preferred brand of chai -- can't find it out here, alas -- so I've been making do with what I've got available. Heavily-spiced hot chocolate is nice, as is peppermint chocolate and the occasional cider.   Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words? Absolutely. I love new music like I love breathing oxygen.   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? Mexican candy = love, i.e. candy with chili and the like. Higher-end chocolates or chocolates mixed with interesting things like the Vosges line are nice. I can't say no to sour patch kids or gummi watermelon, and Cadbury owns my soul. Most candy, unfortunately, just doesn't do it for me and I try to avoid it as a general rule.   Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself? Oh, hand-made, without a doubt. I like being surrounded by artistic, crafty people but have no skill at it myself. It's compensation.   It seems like there are quite a few knitting witches, so I assume they are on the Ravelry forum as well. If so, what are your names on there so I can stalk you? Not yet, but hopefully soon!   Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors? I'd had a bitch of a time getting into Firefly, and suspect that a fan friend will just have to sit me down with the entire season for a good watching. Until that happens, it's not really my cuppa.   Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? I'll be out of town from January 22 - 27. Outside of that, I'll be around for a good long while.   To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement? Having never had Tim Tams, I'd love to try 'em.   Hand beaded jewellery, yay or nay? Yay! Jewelry made by someone you know is always the best.   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc? I am actually a descendent of Medusa the Gorgon, as my hair has a mind of its own. I buy those no-metal elastic hair bands and am known to snap them apart before I can even finish tying my hair back into a ponytail. Because it's so thick and kind of unwieldy (and because I was a tomboy for so long), I am completely unable to do anything feminine with my hair. Headscarves do sound interesting, though I'm known to snap the teeth on clips. I'd love to learn how to use hair sticks, but suspect I wouldn't be able to make my hair stay up. God. I am so bad at crafting. I'm a texture freak, though, and loveLoveLOVE yarn, but don't yet know enough about weights and the like to have a preference other than "this feels awesome!"   Anyone else a total nerd like me and would like DnD/Roleplay stuff (Dice, minis, books, corny tees, etc.)? I don't LARP or tabletop, but I have been role-playing online since I was 14 or thereabouts. It's all text-based, kind of like a group writing project. I used to be part of a Marvel Comics/X-Men RPG (which will eventually get resurrected), but right now I'm co-running a game set in the Anita Blake world and populated with original characters. Wicked fun, without the crappy canon.   How do people feel about unusual ornaments? As in, for holidays other than Christmas? I don't celebrate Christmas and don't really have anywhere to hang ornaments. That said, I'd certainly be willing to try and cobble together a mobile or something.   Question: who would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.? I'm hooked on Sock Dreams right now and am trying to teach myself to knit for the third time (now with my fall SW's help!), so socks = awesome. My feet are between 8.5 - 9, and I will accept any color or style, provided that they're a little longer and not footies or anklets.   How does everyone feel about steampunk? Squeal! Love it a hundred times over. I want to be fabulously wealthy so that I can afford to dress steampunk.   Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers? Yes, this. I am always cold, oftentimes even in the summer, and my circulation is piss-poor. I'm more a gloves kinda gal than a mittens one -- actually, I prefer the amalgam "glittens" and have an old pair of those which have seen me through the past few years. Scarves are always popular, and I love the idea of arm warmers. Hats can be iffy, because I have a crapload of hair and my head is inherently difficult, t'boot. I look oddly good in lumberjack hats, but could probably not pull off a beanie.   If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like? Cookies! <3 They are my greatest weakness when it comes to pastries. I'll accept anything, though I'm an especial sucker for neopolitan/rainbow cookies (more like tiny cakes, to be fair), or butter cookies with rainbow sprinkles. As a cook rather than a baker, I'm in awe of anyone who can make any baked good.   Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Like with transfers I made myself.... T-shirts are fab, though I don't wear them as often as I used to. Most of my t-shirts nowadays are from my Threadless shopping period.   Would you like to receive ATCs (artist trading cards) or would you prefer something more usable, like bookmarks or something? Bookmarks, whee! ATCs aren't something I have a lot of experience with, but as someone with no artistic skill whatsoever, I really do enjoy receiving artwork. On the other hand, bookmarks are neat. (I usually use receipts or post-its, to be honest.)   What witch would like a cloak? I am totally, 100% charmed by this idea. Provided that it's warm, a cloak sounds awesome. I have one quasi-cloak which I caved and bought at this year's renaissance festival, but it's lightweight and more for when I'm pretending to be fashionable than anything that would keep me warm. Which is, unfortunately, a chronic problem of mine.

Maybe you have a goddess figure to remind you of your Inner Goddess, or maybe you have a beautiful Cross to represent your faith...Or maybe you wear a Hand of Fatimah for protection....That kind of thing. I don't really use anything charmwise - which is kind of strange given my love of trinkets & symbolism 12/16 If you were to attend Hogwarts, into which House would you be sorted? Last time I took the quiz I ended in in Hufflepuff, to my chagrin (made me feel dowdy) Would you be interested in some knitted wire jewelry, like this? those are nice! This is kind of a getting-to-know-you-type-thingie, but I always find it illuminating--what's on your computer desktop? Images? Color scheme? Dulac's Little Mermaid   12/15 What do you collect...besides BPAL? Books, spoon jewellery, little vases - I used to collect vintage dishes with roses & chintz patterns but made myself stop once I had kids & no safe place to keep them 12/14 Anyone a fan of Goddess art? I always wear my white & yellow gold wedding band & my spoon ring next to each other on my left hand & vary the ring on my right hand. Chia Pet, do you need one? Some things are best admired from afar Houseplants and/or things to put them in: thoughts? I kinda like houseplants but tend to really neglect them & my house has no suitable windows (they would either fry or get zero sun) Do you like baskets, jars and other interesting containers? Filled or Empty? yup! either     12/8 Who are your forum friends, person or people your witch can contact for ideas? Former Witches: JennyGardener, delicate_fangs & Aevalin were all spot-on when it came to spoiling me What cartoons did you grow up watching? Any animated shows you still watch? Looney Tunes, mostly as a kid. I watch the Simpsons once in a while & a million kid's shows now due to my 4 yr old (Franklin, Backyardigans, Dora, Diego, Roly Poly Olie are his particular faves & I don't mind them) Do you like honey? Will you like to try creamy honey with black sesame or with cinnamon powder? Those sound awesome What is the biggest problem or sad thing in your life? Of course, I mean the saddest or worst thing you can confess here. Because I have a fairly young baby, it's a struggle to get anything done or muster the energy to leave the house more than a couple of times a week. I'm a poor housekeeper at the best of times & right now my house is embarassing me to the point that I dread people coming over. It's not just the dirt but the crap everywhere - clutter is too mild a term. I'm also a bit concerned about my little guy - he's healthy & bright but in the lower percentile for weight & size, so we've been seeing the doctor more often than I'd like (Thank god for Canada's socialized medicine, though!) What fashion item or style do you like, but never wear? Cool footwear! My buckled stompy boots have been retired but I like seeing other people's Fluevogs etc. I need a new pair of Blundstones but I hate being uncomfortable while breaking them in. Do you like to cook? if so, what? Would you like things like spices, cookbooks, recipes, tips? I love cooking & baking but don't have a lot of time for it now, so fairly simple but tasty ideas would be great. I've also been searching for a spice mix called Zhug that I can't find any more. Anyone else have a sudden and unexpected favorite BPAL lately? Phantom Calliope is hitting all the desired cold weather spice & fruit notes right now It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy? coffee, tea, hot chocolate (Starbucks Salted Caramel ), mulled wine Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words? Absolutely! 12/5 What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? Chocolate! Followed by anything! I likes me some candy. Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something? Either would be nice It seems like there are quite a few knitting witches, so I assume they are on the Ravelry forum as well. If so, what are your names on there so I can stalk you? sadly, I've never learned to knit Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors? These are cool but it would probably get ruined by my marauding cats or kid Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? I'll be home To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement? Sure! I'd like to try 'em - we have lots of British sweets in shops around here but not Aussie ones Hand beaded jewellery, yay or nay? Yay! Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc? sure! I'm not a knitter, so paper type craft supplies would be more useful to me, though jewellery stuff might be nice, too   Anyone else a total nerd like me and would like DnD/Roleplay stuff (Dice, minis, books, corny tees, etc.)? not for me, thanks How do people feel about unusual ornaments? As in, for holidays other than Christmas? I'd be into receiving some Question: who would like a pair of handknit socks? Size? Color preference? Cabled, ribbed (for your pleasure), stranded colorwork, etc.? I haven't had handknit socks in years - I miss the ones my Omi (grandma) used to make for my Dad. Every time she sent a bunch in a parcel, my sister & I would descend like jackals & my mum would portion them out. I like medium thickness & mid-calf length & wear a size 10 shoe How does everyone feel about steampunk? It's kinda new to me but I think it's pretty cool Since we're talking about warm winter wearables, who likes hats? Mittens? Arm warmers? Yes, please If your witch were to send you cookies, what kind of cookies would you like? I'm not a huge fan of raisins but other than that anything goes! Who likes tshirts? What about homemade tshirts? Like with transfers I made myself.... Absolutely! 12/3 Would you like to receive ATCs (artist trading cards) or would you prefer something more usable, like bookmarks or something? Either would be cool 12/2 What witch would like a cloak? Me, me, me!

More SW Questions

I love Christmas music even though I'm pagany -- how about you? Not pagany but I love Christmas music. My all time favorite christmas song is David Bowie and Bing Crosby's Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth. I also adore Goo Goo Dolls' Better Days and the John Denver and the Muppets christmas album, the McKenzie Bros. 12 Days of Christmas, We Three Kings, O Holy Night, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, Good King Wenceslas, Go Tell It On The Mountain, O Come All Ye Faithful, Carol of the Bells and other traditional carols. Jingle Bells, The Christmas Shoes, Deck the Halls (unless it is the Rainbow Brite version which is awesome), Jingle Bell Rock and Rock Around the Christmas Tree have to be my least favorites. I love the Barenaked Ladies Christmas Album but I don't own it.   Anyone else have a sudden and unexpected favorite BPAL lately? Well, the other day I put on some Midnight on the Midway from my bottle and the sugar has died out so it is a purple smokey awesome. Unexpected love would have to be Hellhound on My Trail. I adore it and only have an imp because I skipped it based on the iffyness of the notes and it is awesome and I am dumb for doing so.   It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy? Hot Cocoa or Hot Cider.   Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words? Yes. I have some french songs and a few italian that I love and have no clue what they are saying.   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? I don't chew gum because when I do I grind my teeth at night. Not a fan of smarties or sweettarts. I prefer my M&Ms to have peanut in them. I dislike Coconut based on texture. Anything with caramel is a big win. I adore chocolate covered pretzels but hate white chocolate or yogurt covered anything. Niagara Chocolates are the best ever.

helpful hints

After viewing other's helpful hints, I thought perhaps this may help me have a place for wants, desires and dreams.   Books. I love books, not just to read, but to collect. I currently do not own any first editions, but I do have two autographed books, both by Neil Gaiman. They were not autographed for me. Fragile Things was a total surprize; purchased this from Amazon for cheap. Imagine my fangirl squees after realizing it was signed! The Sandman is a series I lust wish for.   I love reference books, be they on medieval life, vampires or language. They help guide me to whatever area I am researching.   When I was a child, I wanted to be an Indian (Native American) when I grew up. The clothing, hair, skin color, lifestyle and community still appeals to me. Leather, deerskin, chamois, ooh (I try to stay away for those things now). Me, I'm a cur. A mishmash of northern European peoples. I say this as I am short, stocky, light-colored skin and hair with light eyes. So the intrigue of dark skin and hair has always been my dream. Or perhaps a rememberance of a past life. Oh yeah, and Peter Pan. To fly, to soar and to never grow up, not me!   I love pottery mugs, particularly with no handles, chalice shaped. Or indentations for your fingers or thumbs. I love the way they feel, the substanance to them, sturdy, capable of holding the elixir of life ( or coffee, lol!) Did I mention I am rather clutzy? No fine china for me, although I think it's beautiful; I am the bull in a china shop!   I am a pagan of no particular persuasion. I love rocks, stones minerals, gemstones. I like to keep them in a pouch and wear or carry them with me. Slowly studying properties of the aforementioned items. I love nature and do what I can for the environment. My happiest times are when the wind is softly singing in my ear, telling secrets meant only for me. The moon is my mother; she watches me and send me gentle love and light and guides me to understanding. I love the morning, when the animals are waking and scurrying off, birds singing their wake-up song, cardinals calling their young and the woodpeckers lob through the air. And oh, when the hawk comes, the birds all join together in a chorus of despair and alarm, warning all the avain community to beware. The night brings the bats, who eats all the necessary critters and the owls call to their young, teaching them how to hunt. And the stars! How I love to gaze at the constellations, my mind not grasping the immensity of it all, to think that for eons of time someone has stood where I am standing and gazed up and wondered the same things. This is my yard, where I feel safe and serene.

More Q&A

I love Christmas music even though I'm pagany -- how about you? Carol of the Bells, White Xmas, and classical versions of Xmas songs are always lovely. Nothing religious though.   Anyone else have a sudden and unexpected favorite BPAL lately? I've been cutting down on my buying/swapping lately but the last BPAL I received was Coral Snake -- YUMMEH! Another Snake I prefer over the original SO!   It's cold outside - what are your favorite drinks to keep yourself warm and cozy? Orange pekoe tea -- would love to try any sort of black teas you could add milk and sugar to -- and hot chocolate. Not a coffee fan.   Would my potential Witchee be up for some music stuff they'd never heard before if they couldn't understand the words? This was my question. And yes, I would!   What kind of candy/sweet treat would you like to receive? Chocolate, and coconut! I love jelly belly beans too. Not a fan of black licorice or coffee-flavored things.

Peacock Queen 2005

In the imp: Lush, fully bloomed rose - almost candy-sweet.   On wet: Still very sweet, a hint of something slightly dusty underneath - reminds me of Beth's orchid note. It tickles the back of my throat...   Drydown: Not much morphing from the wet stage. Sweet, sweet rose, and a pinch of orchid dust. Hmph.   Overall: I remember liking this much better when it was fresh. It's still quite nice - a very realistic, full-bodied rose, but that dusty orchid vibe has kinda soured it for me. 2/5

Snow Bunny 2005

In the Imp: Pine, slush, a faint trace of spicy dirt...   On wet: Pine, slush, and a more pronounced sweet n' spicy dirt - like someone's chewing gum in the middle of a snowy, slightly muddy forest trail.   Drydown: Pine, slush, a powder puff of light spice, and something else underneath - something...pink? Maybe there's a hint of carnation in here? I was thinking bubblegum at first, but some of the Lab's carnation notes (Pink Moon 07, especially) go spicy pink Bazooka gum on me. Hmm...as the minutes tick by, it's starting to veer into burnt berry territory - or berry garbage? Either way, this is not really doing it for me.   Overall: I pulled this decant out for retesting purposes, to see if I should snag this year's version, but it's not wearing very nicely with my skin chemistry. Not biggie, though, I've got Talvikuu, Snow-Flakes, and The Snow Storm to see to my snowy needs. 2/5

Switch Witch Questions

Anyone else a total nerd like me and would like DnD/Roleplay stuff (Dice, minis, books, corny tees, etc.)? My dad tried to teach us DnD when I was in middle school but we never made it after that one hour of teaching. I don't do other roleplay stuff either. Wow, that was wordy way to say no thanks. No to the yarn. Craft supply-wise I love paper. Different textures, colors, patterns. Be it for notes or whatever. Same goes for blank cards.   Which witches would like hair accessories: clips, scrunchies, hairsticks, headscarves, etc? ANy but the head scarves. My hair is finally long enough again for hairsticks and I use clips and hair elastics every day.   Hand beaded jewelry, yay or nay? Yay!   To make up for the fact that I probably won't be able to send my witchee homebaked goodies, will Tim Tams in any number of varieties be an acceptable replacement? Sure.   Is there any time during the holidays (or the rest of the round) when you'll be away from home for a significant period and it'd be best not to send anything by mail? Nope. I'll be here always.   Speaking of which, how many Browncoat witches do we have?? And if you are, would you be interested in getting a Kaylee parasol? If not, would you be interested in getting a paper parasol hand painted with your favorite colors? The photo in the thread of the parasol was gorgeous. I'd probably end up using it often during the summer because the sun hates me.   Everyone who wants a beaded potholder, please to be raising the hands! No thanks. We don't use potholders in this house, whatever kitchen towel is closest works.   It seems like there are quite a few knitting witches, so I assume they are on the Ravelry forum as well. If so, what are your names on there so I can stalk you? Sadly, I do not knit.   Would you personally rather get handmade jewelry or the beads to make something yourself? Handmade. Beads will get lost or stolen by evil cats.

Winter SwitchWitch My Answers

Culled from the thread, as of 02 Jan Languages besides English? How fluent are you? The language I know best after English is Pharaonic Egyptian – can’t really say “speak” because the inflections of the ancient language are, at this point, a best-guess. I had two years of German in college and like to say that meine Grammatik ist gut, aber meine Worterverzeichnis ist Scheiss. Two years of French in high school, which I’ve mostly forgotten. I’ve picked at Arabic and Romanian. I’d like to study Gaelic, any flavor, but I get the feeling that’s another one that’s tough in self-study. My Old and Middle English are fair, but rusty. Anything about language or linguisitcs gets me excited! Do you like mythical/fantastical creatures? Which ones? I’m fond of many: dragons are a big one, centaurs (any half-beast, really), grotesques and gargoyles, werewolves if they count. Travel guides (like Fodors and Zagat)? For which destinations? Wow, I love travel guides but can’t think of a particular destination to ask for. Musicals seen (Broadway or otherwise)? Favorites? Why? I’ve seen, let’s see . . . A Chorus Line, Annie, The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard, SpamALot, Wicked. I’m sure I’m forgetting some. I don’t have a particular passionate favorite. Love splashy productions, but I also love inexpensive or experimental productions, and student productions, too. I’ve always loved live theater, and Hubby does too, so we go fairly often – not always musicals, of course – and mean to go even more often then end up missing stuff, darned short runs. Disney fan? Hubby and I went to Disneyland every year for a while, on whatever’s the last day before people go back to school/work after New Year’s Day – that’s statistically the lowest attendance day, so there’s no fighting crowds. Add a threat of rain, and you’re pretty much guaranteed a deserted park! We always have fun, but we’re not obsessed like some folks. Went to Disney World/Epcot once many years ago – pre-MGM – and that was fun, too. We particularly liked the Animal place, and Pleasure Island. Usually enjoy the animated films, but, again, not obsessed. Love animated film in general. Room sprays? Ah! I’m always interested in room sprays. Only have Cathouse and it’s wonderful. I’m not particularly itching for any of the inquisition ones, but would enjoy them if they found their way into my hands. Magazines, money no object? Love the magazine format – anything in any of my interests (dogs, history, science, nature - !) make fun and inexpensive gifts. Valerie Anands/Fiona Buckley? Never heard of her. Always eager to try a recommended author. Who is your favorite villain of all-time? There are so many great ones. Rickman’s Sheriff of Nottingham comes to mind (as I see it has for others as well!); for sheer villainy, there’s Rasputin in the Bluth Anastasia.   10 Dec Favorite animals? Least favorite? I have to say, animals are a big deal to me and I love and respect them all. This list is of the particular favorites! Canids (all of them, but especially dogs and wolves), corvids (all of them, but especially ravens and crows), spiders, Asian elephants, sea turtles, birds of all kinds (not a huge rock dove - "city pigeon" - fan, though), horses, donkeys, goats. Also, see my blog for the list of my Totems. Least favorite: fleas. I just can't come up with any positives there. How do you feel about Heifer International? Or do you have other favorite charities not mentioned in your application? I love the mission of Heifer International. My other charities are mentioned on my questionnaire. Tassel/jingle belt? Not a shimmyer, nor much of a belt-wearer. Three places to visit or re-visit? Re-visit Egypt and England, Visit Turkey. Literary erotica? Sure. Chocolate? Not my favorite. I'll eat it, of course. White tends to be too sugary-sweet, but anything from milk to dark to high-cacao is all right. Chocolate that supports rainforest conservation or sustainable living is nice. What really makes chocolate good is if there's stuff in it! Like nuts or fruits or both! I even liked the chocolate-covered garlic; I really like flavor combinations.   09 Dec Honey? Love it, any kind! I’d especially be interested in unusual or craft honeys. What cartoons did you grow up watching? Any animated shows you still watch? I can’t think of anything particular from when I was small – Warner Brothers, I guess. I’ll always love animated stuff. From adulthood, Animaniacs and Freakazoid were favorites and I haven’t gotten any of the DVDs yet (not that I’d expect my Witch to get me something so expensive, but if an inexpensive used copy was found … ) Love The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park. Am I forgetting anything? Probably. Who are your forum friends, person or people your witch can contact for ideas? Gypsy Rose Red and SueDonym know me pretty well. My past Witches Dark Alice and Suileach may have ideas, too! Chia Pet? Never had one. People mock them, but I’d be willing to give one a try. Houseplants/containers? I don’t really have good spots inside for plants. The patio is tricky, too, because it gets strong sun in the morning (intensified by the concrete surface), then is shaded all day. Shade plants tend to go “Aaaahhh!” from the sun, and partial shade plants don’t get enough. We are kind of planning to put a sculpture or rock garden out there. Baskets/Jars/Other Interesting Containers? Love containers!! Any size, shape, or style would be welcomed with love, filled or empty. Shoe size/style? Slippers? Size ranges from 9 to 10. I like athleticy shoes, especially Keens and Tevas. Love cork-bed shoes, like Naets (and Birkenstocks, too – but they only have the one closed-toe style, and I must wear closed toe and heel at work). I actually have a Zappos list, but I don’t maintain it regularly, just when I’m shopping for something particular. My feeties do get chilled when I’m lounging around the house (well, in Winter anyway!) – I usually just wear socks, but slippers work too! BPAL boxes/imp cases? I can always use new bottle or imp storage (must destash one of these days!) Handmade calligraphy Would be great! Something like this would be nice to hang on the wall. Fanfic, short or long? Sure. I prefer adventure to romance, though. A pairing – any pairing, slash or het, could be thrown in, but not as the meat of the story. Harry Potter, Whedonverse, Marvel Universe … I’ll try to think of more. Weirdest and/or most practical thing not buying right now? Cool question, but nothing comes to mind. I keep talking myself out of a GPS unit, then spending that same amount on some other, less useful electronic device.   Culled from the thread, prior to 09 Dec Love Warm Winter Wearables! I've never actually tried mittensbut think I prefer gloves. And my hands are fairly large, so cute girly gloves are often too tight. I've recently become obsessed with arm warmers because they've proved to be a good way to help moderate my temperature - I'm often too warm if I put on a sweater when it's my hands that are cold, for example. Also great for reading in bed when my arms have to be out of the cozy covers. Thing is, I've got seven pairs now, so probably don't really need more *mini-pout* . Not that I'd reject a new pair should my Witch feel compelled! Addition since original answer! I am now thinking that I want a “basic” pair - such as these - to wear at agility class. It can get pretty cold (20s) but layering is important to avoid overheating when we’re running. Scarves, scarflets, cowls, hats ... love 'em all, any style! Cookies: I actually prefer cookies without chocolate. All kinds of nuts and berries are great. Oh, but no coconut as I don't like the texture. I'll bet cashew butter cookies would be wonderful. Homemade t-shirts: awesome! The more done up the better! Unusual ornaments, ornaments for holidays other than Christmas: Wonderful! I would love. Cat hair: Not a huge problem. Hubby is quite allergic, but has been less affected since he went on arthritis meds. A few hairs here and there should be quite all right. Please do not send entire cats. Handknit socks: Sure! Absolutely any style or variety, keeping to the colors in my questionnaire would be optimal. Ladies nine or ten. DnD Roleplay stuff: Not a roleplayer. Hair accessories: As emphasized in my questionnaire, I love them - all types! I always wear my hair back so like to have a variety of decorations. Hand beaded jewellery: Absolutely. Tim Tams: I was another who didn't know what these were - for some reason I thought they were pasties. Thanks to Sorry I Can't Scroll Back Right Now To Get Your Name for describing them. They don't sound like my kind of thing, especially if "fluff" = marshmallow, which has gelatin which I won't eat. Away from home for a significant period: Nope! Greatest sadness There's nothing major I'm dealing with, thank goodness. Relationship and loved ones are all well. I get stressed pretty easily, though - between social anxiety and sensory dysfunction, I need a lot of down time, and if I don't get it, Ugh! - so if I need cheering up, that's what it will be from. Puzzle books Love them - crosswords, any word game puzzles; but not the math or number ones. Like to cook? Hate it - but mostly it's figuring out what to make that doesn't take a million pots and pans and $$ of ingredients that I don't have on hand (how many times I've bought a whole box of cornstarch, for example, for one dang teaspoon). SO, I wouldn't be averse to some tips or recipes from my Witch to help with those issues. Things that keep or freeze well would be good, too. My dietary deets are in my questionnaire. Winter Holiday? ] We celebrate Christmas in my family. Maybe someday I'll riff on what the holiday means to me . . . Other Forums Frequented? Actually, no.
