13 Nights of Halloween 2016 questions and answers
I wouldn’t mind trying either their hot process soap or a sample size sorbetto in Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground, Gingermilk, Red Right Hand, Smoky Jack, or Whiskers.
Do you like stuff related to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)?
It’s not really my thing, but some of the skeleton and sugar skull stuff is neat.
How about handknitted things? Especially fall themed things! Anything specific, ie socks, mitts, hats, home decor like pumpkin coasters or wall hangings?
Sure! Handknitted home decor like pumpkin coasters or a wall hanging would be great.
Are there any fandoms or specific collectible genres you would appreciate things of/for(ex: you collect shot glasses, or the ninth Doctor is your bae)?
I’m not hugely into any fandoms any more, but I still like to occasionally pick up stuff related to Mystery Science Theater 3000 (Joel era), Supernatural (with focus on Dean), and various anime (Black Butler has some cool merchandise - either Sebastian or Grell, and never ever Sebastian/Ciel!). I also have a small but growing collection of lucky cat / maneki neko stuff.
Do you have a favorite Fall/Halloween symbol?
Bats! I also like ravens and rats and mice and ghosts and skeletons and all sorts of simple or cute Halloween symbols. I like vampires a lot, too.
First, talk to me about soaps- do you like them, and what kinds of scents/lather/varieties do you like?
I love bar soaps! Not so much the glycerin/melt and pour ones, but all other kinds. I’m fine with scrubby ones, and I like pretty much most scents when it comes to soap. I love clove-scented soaps, other spicy scents, mint scents, resin scents, even some florals and herb scents (rose, lilac, lemon verbena, etc.).
Second, tell me about teas! Favorites? Anything you'd like to try?
Oh, gosh, I have so many teas that I’m trying not to acquire any more until I’ve used up what I have. That said, if you have a favourite you’d like to share, I’d be up for trying it.
Lastly, I go to Renn Faire- is there anything from there you might like?
I’ve only been to a Renn Faire type event once in my life, and that was decades ago, so I really have no idea. If you see something that you think I’d like, then I probably would!
What Weenie of years past are you seeking from the lab?
Dorian in the Pumpkin Patch is the one that comes to mind first. I wouldn’t mind trying Snake Oil in the Pumpkin Patch either, but I love Dorian, so I’ve always sort of regretted that I didn’t get a bottle of that.
Are you a shawl wearer- and if you don't wear one now, would you?
I’m not, but I could be! I’m always cold in the winter, yet I hate to turn up the heat if I can possibly avoid it, so a shawl would be lovely for some extra warmth. Of course, a purely pretty non-warm scarf would also be very nice!
Tell me about LUSH- do you like them? If so, what are some of your favorite things from there? Particularly fond scents or products? Stuff you can't stand?
I’m not really a fan of LUSH.
So, in this swap, you open a goodie every day. I have seen this gift direction done several different ways, but I am interested in which you are most keen to do. Would you rather:
A. have strict direction as to which gift is to be opened on which day(aka the number system)?
B.have a few gifts that are meant to be opened on specific days (ex: *this* one is for Halloween night only), but the rest be your choice?
C. have a free-for-all, grab bag-style box of goodies, where you are the sole arbiter of your goodie grabbing destiny(everything is wrapped but you pick the gift you want to open each day)?
D. be surprised?
I’ll be fine with however you want to do it.
Stuff from Japan?
Oh my gosh, ANYTHING! I read/watch a lot of manga and anime, so I’m kind of intrigued by most things Japanese, and there are so many super cute things from Japan! I’m especially fond of maneki neko stuff, and anything related to one of the manga or anime series I like would be super cool. I’m sure I’ve listed them all at various times in various questionnaires, but right now the ones that spring to mind are Psychic Detective Yakumo / Shinrei Tantei Yakumo, The Ancient Magus’ Bride / Mahou Tsukai no Yome, Ghost Hunt (Akuryou series & Akumu no Sumu ie), Library War / Toshokan Sensou, Black Butler / Kuroshitsuji, Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok / Matantei Loki Ragnarok, Adekan, Hellsing, Demon Prince of Momochi House, and Diabolik Lovers. I’ve managed to get CDs with the theme songs from a lot of my favourite shows, but I’m still noticeably missing the character songs from Inu X Boku (I have a copy of MUCC’s song “Nirvana”, but none of the other songs featured in the show) and Cascade’s song “sexy sexy” from Ghost Stories / Gakkou no kaidan, so copies of any of those would be great (don’t need originals - downloaded and burned onto a CD is fine). I think a mix CD of your favourite Japanese pop songs or the like if you have them would be fantastic, too. Stationary, Hello Kitty, any cute stuff would be welcomed and loved. Oh, I would love a postcard or souvenir from your part of Japan - something specific to your hometown or where you’re living now would be really cool to get.
Pumpkin Spice or No Pumpkin Spice?
I’m probably going to come down on the side of No Pumpkin Spice. I don’t really like the scent of pumpkin, and the only pumpkin flavored things I get excited about are pumpkin beers and Trader Joe’s pumpkin muffins.
Milk, white, and/or Dark Chocolate?
Milk is the best, and I like some white too (Green & Black has a very nice white chocolate bar, which unfortunately my local grocery store has apparently stopped stocking). Dark chocolate is my least favourite, and I like it less the darker it gets, but if there’s other stuff in it (mint, for instance), it works sometimes.
Do you like Yankee Candle? Anything you want from there?
Nothing I can think of, but a votive or two would be fine.
Trading Post Goodies?
My old BPTP pen is pretty beat up, so I wouldn’t mind a replacement. I’d love to try The Serpentine perfume oil - that’s the only thing really tempting me at the moment. Or if you have an unloved decant of Portrait of a Young Woman with Unicorn hair gloss or Saint Justina with the Unicorn hair gloss sitting around, I wouldn’t mind trying either one of those.
Bath and Bodyworks?
I’m overstocked on Bath & Body Works stuff for the most part, but I do go through their PocketBacs pretty quick, so I’m always happy to get more.
Tell me of your Sock Dreams, please!
The bamboo cushy lounger crew or black or charcoal striped crew socks are nice, as are a lot of the critter crew or midcalf socks (love the Mr. Fox crew!). Favourite critter socks (besides Mr. Fox, of course) are the Koi Fish crew, Shark Attack midcalf, New Zealand Sleepy Sheep bed socks, Love Bunny crew, and Monsters midcalf socks. I also like the Cotton Lace anklet socks in any of the dark colors (black, brown, navy).
i'd like to make some baked goods, would you like some? And if you have any food allergies what can I use as a substitute?
Absolutely! I love home baked stuff, and I have no food allergies to worry about.
Anything special you want from the Target dollar spot?
Nothing I’m aware of at the moment.
I live in The Netherlands. If there's anything in particular that you'd like to get from here, now's the time to tell!
I don't really know anything about the Netherlands or what special things are available there, but I'm open to anything you might want to share! A souvenir or something you think is representative of your country would be great - I'd love to learn more about it!
I'm sort of collecting Lush showergels.Regular collection, but also many Kitchen items. Are there any showergels you'd like to try? I'd be happy to make you samples!
I'm not familiar with Lush shower gels, so there's nothing I'm specifically wanting to try.
What is your stance on Glitter?
I'm pro-glitter! Most everything is better with a little (or a lot of) glitter on it!
Also, if you have a Goodreads or other online reading log, does it include a wishlist? Otherwise, is it safe to assume books on the 'to-read' section are wishlist items? Or are you less into keeping a physical copy of the book, and instead prefer to turn to the awesomeness of the library to get your to-read need accomplished.
I don't have a Goodreads or other online reading log.
how about art? (Small/mailing safe sizes, course)
As long as it's small, sure.
Tea lovers, what do you like from Whittard?
I know nothing at all about Whittard, so I checked it out. Even though the question was about tea, the first thing that caught my eye was that they have hot chocolate in addition to tea. The white hot chocolate sounds fantastic, as do the limited edition spiced flavour hot chocolate and the orange flavor hot chocolate. Tea-wise, I wouldn't mind trying the Spice Imperial, Vanilla Sundae, Regal Blend, Chilli Chai, or Petit Macaron. Or maybe the Cherry Blossom green tea?
How do you feel about reading series out of order? Obviously not in situations where the subsequent books are part of the same story arc where you will be totally lost and frustrated if you haven't read all of them, but say, standalone stories which are technically part of a series and which might obliquely reference past books, but not in such as way as to spoil the plot of the book which I happen to have in my possession that you might like.
If it can be read as a stand-alone, then sure. Would you be interested in a Halloween themed short story anthology?
Absolutely! Is there a limit to the number of books you'd like to receive?
Hmm, I hate to put a limit on books, but I'm so far behind on reading the books that I already have stacking up, so maybe no more than 3 or 4? Have you read Movies in 15 Minutes by our very own Cleolinda? Would you like to?
I haven't. I see maybe one current movie a year, so I'm not sure this book would really be my sort of thing. What kind of phone do you have?
A regular old non-smart flip phone. Have you seen the horror film The Babadook? If so, did you like it? Would you want something Babadook-themed?
Nope. Those who are amenable to yarnie things--ok, two questions: Any undesirable fibers (wool allergy, vegan so no critter hair at all, etc.)? and how do you feel about cowls/infinity scarves?
As long as no critters are harmed in the process of collecting their hair, I'm fine with it. One of my friends gifted me an infinity scarf last year and showed me how to use it, so I can handle an infinity scarf now. Incense:
I like it, but I almost never burn it. Candles are just easier for me to use.
Motherhood update:
I'm really tempted by Reapers Gonna Reap. I can see myself ordering a bottle of that at some point. None of the others were as tempting, but I'd like to at least try Baby's First Krampuslauf, Heavenly Spark, My Little Grotesque, and Texare.

Awesome

Yup. I love bargain hunting.

Meh. The CNE is 3 hours away and the local fair kinda sucks. I'm sure a real state fair would be awesome though.
- You throw caution to the wind and runaway to join a traveling circus. What job would you want ( a main performer, a side show, a behind the scenes spot, etc) and why?
Lion tamer. Or Ring Master.
- What mythical or fantastic race of creatures (dragons, unicorns, griffins, elves, dwarves, faeries, etc.) do you most identify with?
Elves. Faeries too. I also kinda dig dragons.
- Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. What do you choose?
My favourite ring, the puzzle box my grandfather picked up while serving in the Korean War, a wine cork, lip balm (I am NEVER without balm and have an extra 10 stashed around my apartment), empty imps of my favourite bpals and, my copy of the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, my statue of a black cat and my cell phone.

no
Notes (Here's where you can add additional information you'd like your Switch Witch to know!):
Dear Witch: You are awesome!! Please know that this questionnaire is just meant to help you come up with some ideas. I am going to adore anything you send me and (hopefully) we'll both gain a new friend. Thanks so much!
Would you be interested in home made food items?
- garlic dill pickles - no thank you because we use my late grandfather's recipe and make our own every year.
- blackberry jam - Oh yeah, I LOVE blackberry all the things.
- dried honey crisp apples - no thank you
- applesauce (with or without red hots) - no thank you.
- elderberry syrup (with honey and apple cider vinegar - great for immune boosting) - This sounds incredible, yes please.
- honey from our bees - OMG yes please!
- rose petal liquor (made with our own rose petals and everclear but diluted down a bit so it doesn't knock you over) - I'd love to sample this.
- baked goods of your choice, what do you like or dislike? - It'll depend on what can survive the post office the best, I think. Maybe fudge or cookies. If you ordered me something local or purchased a gift certificate, I love pastries and pies and cheesecake.
Would you be interested in project bags/pouches? I usually make flat bottom round pouches with a pocket inside and a drawstring. Possibility of embroidery if we still have the huge commercial machine.
Sure.
Are you allergic to any fiber or do you know what kind of yarn you prefer? (merino, merino cashmere, merino cashmere silk, 100% silk, 100% cashmere, merino nylon, BFL, BFL silk, etc. Or do you like acrylic?)
I am SUPER sensitive to traditional wool (I itch so hard) but merino is fine. Acrylic is good too, and I love silk and cashmere.
Would you want a quilted pot holder? No thank you.
Do you have any preferred flavour of shortbread?
I love shortbread. The more the merrier.
Is there anything you'd particularly like to get from the UK?
Nothing food wise because I can find most of the candy/sweets in Canada. I do adore London, so anything London themed is awesome.
Is there anything you'd particularly like to get from Japan? Crazy flavoured kitkats, anything sailor moon (specifically Sailor Jupiter) maneki-neko, pens and stationery, toys, anything Studio Ghibli (Howl's Moving Castle, Totoro, Spirited Away - I love soot sprites!),
Harry Potter? I love, love, LOVE Harry Potter. I'm a Hufflepuff (according to my sorting quiz) but I adore Ravenclaw as well. Hermione and Luna are my favourite characters.
Hibiscus Seeds? No thank you.
Does anyone like fleece character hats? Like these: http://wonderlandonl...like-fleece-hat? What kinda characters would you like to see? They're adorable but I'd probably never where it.
Reused Packing Supplies? I have no problem with people reusing viable packing supplies.
Do you like things with Pumpkin (or Pumpkin Spice?) I indulge a little bit (I've had my one PSL of the year) but I don't really need more.
Do you have an Etsy wish list, and if so, what's your user name there?
I'm sarandipitee on etsy. My wishlist is here
Tokyo Milk? Yea or Nay?
I've never tried it.
would you like notebooks or journals? Utilitarian or fancy? Lined or blank? Tell me of your stationery lustings.
I love journals! They can be plain or fancy. I like lined over blank.
If you are ok with knitted things, what colors do you like?
Jewel tones! Garnet red, emerald green, etc. Deep deep purple, onyx black.
If striping, what two (or more) colors together?
HUFFLEPUFF REPRESENT. Srsly I would love a Harry Potter house scarf for Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.
If you want yarn, what colors do you want?
--- A color palette would be lovely if you use Pinterest. Or just want to post palette photos in your blog.
Aside from jewel tones, I also like soft heathered yarn - in earth tones (green, brown, grey etc) but only if you are kind enough to make me something as I can't knit So please don't send me yarn.
Are you interested in fabric? Again, what colors, what themes, etc.
I have no crafting skills to speak of, so fabric isn't for me. If you can make me something cool out of fabric (like a cool pillow cover or stuffed animal) the softer and cooler the fabric the better.
What are your tea and/or coffee preferences? Loose leaf / whole bean or bagged / ground? Do you have a favorite type? Flavor? Retailer?
I love David's tea! Black and fruity herbals are my fave. I drink it hot and cold. But if you have a fave tea you want to send me, go for it! I love to try new things.
If you could receive one handmade item - everything from knitted or crocheted gloves and scarves to sewn bags to fanart or original art, what would you prefer?
Ooh a bag. With art on it But I do love me some fingerless gloves.
What are your favorite fandoms, if any?
OMG I am a huge nerd so I'll narrow this down to 5 loves: Stranger Things (tv show), Labyrinth (movie), Marvel (specifically Captain America/Avenger movies and in comics Captain Marvel and Kate Bishop Hawkeye), Mad Max: Fury Road (movie) and The Flash (TV).
Authors - Jennifer Estep, Faith Hunter. Heard of them? Love them, hate them, or eh?
I don't know them - but Hunter's Rogue Mage series looks interesting.
Knitted things. Specifically scarves/cowls and shawls.....grabby hands or not? Favorite colors? Are you allergic or sensitive to any textiles, ie wools, cashmere, nylon, metallic threads, mohair, alpaca? Knitted washcloths? For the kitchen or for the bath? And again, colors??
I mentioned my allergies earlier. I don't need any washcloths but scarves are always welcome.
Skincare- do you use a particular routine? What products would you absolutely not use?
I've been using the Origins Ginzing line I discovered at Sephora and I LOVE it. The refreshing scrub, refreshing eye cream and energy boosting moisturizer. The stuff has been magic on my super picky and problematic skin (I'm dry and prone to acne at the same time). Origins is pricey though so I'm not expecting my Witch to splurge for me. Origins has great samples of various masks I'd love to try as well, for really good prices.
Bath/shower products?
I adore Lush (twilight bath bombs, the rough with the smooth body scrub, wiccy magic muscle bar and karam soap are my staples), paintbox soapworks and love to try any kind of handmade soap. I'm pretty much down for any kind of bath products - I love to relax in the tub.
BPTP products? Pre-owned okay?
For sure! Hair gloss is my jam, and I love bath oils. I love the atmos sprays but my other half is super sensitive so goblin squirts or samples are the best since I won't use much at a time.
Essential oils and aromatherapy oils- yay, or nay?
Yes please! I'd love to get some. Go by my fave perfume notes for ideas please.
Favorite animal?
Cats, I love cats. Also ravens and crows and foxes and otters.
Twilight Alchemy Lab oils?
I love my TALS. Any amount of Ebon Night or Nocturne is welcome as I'm a huge insomniac. I lost my bottle of Seduction IX in my move so any of that as well is so welcome.
Jewel Tones:
Emerald green, deep wine purple, garnet blood red, midnight blue, darkest black.
Elements & Artifacts has a fall/halloween collection up? Anything catch your eye?
I LOVE E&A. My etsy wishlist has loved a quite a few of her beautiful items and I've ordered myself the PSYCOMANTEUM earrings.
And speaking of shops from BPAL folks, any favorites in the stores on the SW Stalking and Services Spreadsheet?
I added some faves to my etsy list.
Haus of Gloi update is live tomorrow (the 25th)- is there anything you're interested in?
Sadly I've had zero luck with HoG's hair oil and perfume oil so maybe their lip balm?
Ren Faire/Honey?
Ren faire no, honey yes!
Coloring Books?
No thank you (I have 4 already and I don't get to colour them as much as I'd like).
Would you be interested in Kings Game by Lisa Millraney
No thank you.
Do you celebrate Mabon? Would you like "witchy" or pagan decorations and objects? For example, pentacle wall hangings, mabon poppets, corn dollies, ritual candles, etc?
I don't celebrate, so no thank you.
Anyone hankering for Craftsy classes?
No thank you.
Would you be interested in any of the following: jigsaw puzzles; puzzle books (like word searches or crossword puzzles or suduko); coloring books; card games; board games?
I'd love a copy of Cards Against Humanity (as long as it wasn't a fortune). I don't use puzzle books, prefer to use my Nintendo 2DS or phone and I have no room for puzzles. Plus, I'm betting my cat Atticus would like to eat the pieces.
Though I've been playing with sculpee lately and like making sort of character or fandom inspired bead/pendants, would that be something you'd like or have use for?
Something simple - like Captain Marvel's symbol or like Star Wars rebel logo would be cool.
Erotica or BDSM - yay or nay, and if yay, what kinds of things?
I'm super picky so I'll pass
My local farmers market has a pepper specialist who makes dried pepper powders. Would you like some and if so what level of spicyness.
I still have a jar of dried peppers from my Mom's crop from last year so no thanks.
Tarot cards/oracle decks - yay or nay?
If yay, do you already have any?
Which ones?
I don't know how to use them . I have a tarot set I've never really gotten good with
Cryptozoology/cryptids (Big Foot, lake monsters, chupacabra, etc.) - yay or nay?
If yay, any favourites?
Nessie is cute.
Weenies
The Weenies are my absolute fave update of the year. Ones I'm interested in: Devil's NIght 2016, Dead Leaves and Blackberries, Dead Leaves and Sugared Cardamom, Yipe!, Spiced Autumn Cider, The Wan White Humming Hive and The Ghost of Clytemnestra Awakening the Furies
BPTP Weenies
Witches and Vampires for Hilary pins, The Ghost Story spray, Lycanthrope Brown HG, Pistachio Pumpkin Cupcake Bath Oil.
Mead
I'd love to try some mead, but shipping to Canada is going to be pricey - the weight might drive that up (and I don't know if it would survive customs).
Art Nouveau
Those are lovely! I would totally hang Sorsha and Lydia on my walls. For commission work - Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), Luna Lovegood from HP or even Raven Reyes from the 100.
Choker
I don't like things wrapped tight around neck so no to choker style, But if it was made more like a lariat style it would work perfect for me. I love the leaves at the end and if it was a Fall theme for colour it would be gorgeous.
13days fall 16
I love Paintbox in general…I did get several samples of Weenies so I can report back what is amazing to me.
Do you like stuff related to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)?
I do. My heritage is not Mexican, so I don’t want to do anything appropriative, but I’ve read a fair amount on the traditions, and I’ve always celebrated my family who have passed on, I still talk to them on a daily basis, etc., and I do set up a little altar for them for Dia de los Muertos.
Knitted Items?
sure! I love it all.
Fandom/Specific Items?
I don’t really fangirl over things, but my entertainment loves are Dr. Who, Inspector Morse and spinoffs, Welcome to Night Vale, World of Warcraft, old RPGs…specific items I magpie over are interesting rocks, pottery, pins for my knapsack. I also have a thing for Minions and various mashup shirts (I have Minion Star Wars, Dr. Who, and Firefly shirts, and I will someday get the Seagulls have the phone box shirt).
Fall/Halloween Icons?
ravens, owls, falling leaves, bare branches/trees, clouds over the moon, pumpkins, gourds (all those lovely atmospheric cliches, right? )
First, talk to me about soaps- do you like them, and what kinds of scents/lather/varieties do you like?
I love soap: hot process, cold process, glycerin, hair shampoo bars…Scents pretty much follow my general scent likes—I lean kind of unisex/masculine in soap: green, herbal, woods, leather, some citrus and fruity things. I’m not a huge fan of scrubby soaps with bits of things that don’t dissolve or things like glitter in soap because they’re just scratchy to me. I’m a big fan of sugar scrubs for that particular need.
Second, tell me about teas! Favorites? Anything you'd like to try?
Favorite teas are generally black (flavored or plain) and herbal. I like green and white, also. I’m up for anything that isn’t rooibos or includes licorice root (the sweet aftertaste weirds me out). Some of my favorites are a rose mint white tea, Russian caravan, chai, and the cheapie herbal teas like Celestial Seasonings mandarin orange spice, lemon zinger, etc. I’m not a tea snob by any means. =)
Lastly, I go to Renn Faire- is there anything from there you might like?
no idea, I’m sure I’d love something, never been to a renn faire
What Weenie of year's past are you seeking from the lab?
I usually strike out on most Weenies because foodies don’t work on me, and I have a sensitivity to cinnamon. There are a few in my w/l from past Weenies that I never got to try…I wouldn’t mind tracking down a partial of 2012’s Autumn Coolness, or if that one ever comes back, the newer one…my favorite Weenie hands down is La Calavera Catrina.
Are you a shawl wearer- and if you don't wear one now, would you?
yes! love shawls, shawlettes, whatever.
Tell me about LUSH- do you like them? If so, what are some of your favorite things from there? Particularly fond scents or products? Stuff you can't stand?
I’m pretty much a Lush newbie…I know I had a little mini pot of lotion that I wasn’t super enthused with, it was cocoa butter I think and I didn’t like my hands smelling like tootsie rolls. I have a bath bomb from them that I haven’t had a chance to use yet.
Japanese goodies?
sure! stationery bits, treats…I like things like pocky because they’re not super sweet, gummy candies, and some lovely person once sent me a candy that was like a red bean mochi in candy form, and that was kind of awesome. I’d be interested in savory snacks, too.
So, in this swap, you open a goodie every day. I have seen this gift direction done several different ways, but I am interested in which you are most keen to do. Would you rather:
I’m happy with whatever…it’s kind of fun to have a specific goodie to open on special days (ex: getting a pair of halloween socks or something on the 30th to wear for Halloween), but however my scarecrow wants to organize is cool.
The Witch is In/Out sign?
I have that for my cube at work.
Pumpkin Spice or No Pumpkin Spice?
not so much with the pumpkin spice…I LOVE pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread…I don’t really want to be inundated with it in other things. Spice things that are not necessarily pumpkin are welcome, cinnamon tea, stuff like that. I’m not much on foodie scents though.
Milk, white, and/or Dark Chocolate?
white and dark are my preferences, but the beloved is a milk chocolate person, so anything is fair game, I’m happy to share treats
Do you like Yankee Candle? Anything you want from there?
honestly we don’t use a lot from them. mistletoe votives or tarts, or something more outdoorsy/clean
Anything you have your eye on at BPTP?
claw polishes like Le Lethe, Oneiroi, Temple of Dreams, Unseelie….if they come out with a Weenie polish in a shimmer or pearl warm brown, I would be all over that…I think there was one last year and I didn’t snag it
Bath and Body Works - yay or nay?
sadly, *hell* no. I don’t know what’s in their stuff, but it breaks me out terribly.
Sock Dreams?
I own precisely one thing from Sock Dreams: a pair of armsocks that I got in the spring cleaning swap and they’re awesome, I love them. I’m down for fun socks from there or otherwise with the caveat that I have big calves, so knee socks are maybe not a great plan.
13 Nights of Halloween Scarecrow help 2016
Anything here: http://paintboxsoapworks.com/ look like something you'd like to try (assuming that you're not already ordering it)?
I am completely uninformed. I have been gifted some lovely soaps which smell amazing. I find I just don't reach for bar soap. I enjoy scrubs but haven't been using as much lately. I do love all sorts of rich creams for body or face, but don't currently have a bathtub worth a bath product.
Do you like stuff related to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)?
Lovely notion and practice from a beautiful culture. Yes, I'd love to learn more!
Handknit items:
Sure! I love the texture, and I've seen several amazing examples knitted by BPALers. I live in Maine, so scarves, gloves, socks, or basically anything for warmth would be welcome.
Are there any fandoms or specific collectible genres you would appreciate things of/for(ex: you collect shot glasses, or the ninth Doctor is your bae)?
I love unicorns. Also, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Twin Peaks, X-Files. I've checked out those Funko things before and almost brought Spike home, but just didn't quite get there.
Do you have a favorite Fall/Halloween symbol?
I love organic items like leaves, branches, stones...those can be fall-related, I suppose. I love skulls or skulls and crossbones, gargoyles, and things like Hello Kitty wearing horns (though I am not a huge HK fan, typically. Odd.).
First, talk to me about soaps- do you like them, and what kinds of scents/lather/varieties do you like?
As much as I have tried to use bar soap, I always gravitate back to liquid/shower gel. Part of it is the water puddles under bar soap, and part is that they are SO drying. (I have D.R.Y. skin.) I know there are probably some great bars out there I haven't found with some kind of milk or something that would defeat the dry, itchy feeling on my hands other bars leave. If you know that bar, I'd be interested in it. I like the idea of less waste from packaging.
Second, tell me about teas! Favorites? Anything you'd like to try?
Tea is something I always WANT to be more expert about, but I'm so not. I do drink Sleepytime fairly often. I enjoy herbal/fruity blends with a bit of cream in cooler weather. I am a coffee-in-the-morning person, so I normally don't want tea with caffeine, though I occasionally have chai. How's that for ambiguous?
Lastly, I go to Renn Faire- is there anything from there you might like?
I like Renn Faire, but can't think of something offhand. If you can, great!
What Weenie of years past are you seeking from the lab?
The only pumpkin that has ever really worked for me was Marshmallow Pumpkin from the Post several years back. I've got a couple bottles. I am always excited for Weenies, because I love the themes and ideas, but I am not a foodie blend person EXCEPT for Midway and the aforementioned Pumpkin. That often rules out many Weenies. I love the apple in Snow, Glass, Apples, so I suppose there could be SOME apple blend that would work. I haven't fallen for the ciders, though.
Are you a shawl wearer- and if you don't wear one now, would you?
Not generally, but I could be.
Tell me about LUSH- do you like them? If so, what are some of your favorite things from there? Particularly fond scents or products? Stuff you can't stand?
I have several blog posts from prior SWs in my blog, and I think I've answered this in detail somewhere (at least once or thrice). However, I love Blues Skies and French Kiss, and if they ever made anything other than bubble bar for FK I'd buy a vat (current bathtub isn't worth bathing in). Blue Skies gel was recently done in LUSH Kitchen, and we stocked up. I have used LUSH Full of Grace and Celestial daily for years, and recently picked up the cleanser in a jar - Kalamazoo. Dream Cream is love. There are others, but I do NOT love all the super foody/candy/floral stuff.
Stuff from Japan?
Probably? I don't know what, though.
Pumpkin Spice or No Pumpkin Spice?
In my coffee or food, YES, please! On me? No, thank you.
Milk, white, and/or Dark Chocolate?
Yes! We tend toward dark because we both love it, but I enjoy white, too, and many of the peanut butter chocolates I find are with milk, which is fine. (Solid bars - dark or white, other types of things - whatever!)
Do you like Yankee Candle? Anything you want from there?
I enjoy Witch's Brew scent, but I don't use paraffin candles. Have they developed a soy or veggie blend yet? I don't use tarts. I do think some of their Halloween stuffs are cute, but I'm not into that Boney whatever couple they have. I currently have nothing in my home from them, for context.
Trading Post Goodies?
The Lilith just released with Dorian, lavender, and snow - or something like that - sounds heavenly. Never to be found again: Lick It! candle or Blueberry Peppermint bath oil, but that's not Weenie-like or likely in general. Other Liliths sound interesting. I always love the pens. Who am I kidding? I enjoy most Post items.
Bath and Bodyworks?
I was loyal to their candles and such for a long time, but they are no longer cruelty-free, and that's important to me.
Tell me of your Sock Dreams, please!
Oh! Space Dyed Terry Shorties - these are the BEST socks I've found for some warmth, fitting in my shoes, and being friendly to plus sized ankles. LOVELOVELOVE. And I have but the one pair. I would love more (in cool colors, black). I am open to any socks that aren't mean to my ankles.
i'd like to make some baked goods, would you like some? And if you have any food allergies what can I use as a substitute?
Yes! No allergies, and I'm not the world's biggest fan of nuts, though I occasionally enjoy them in baked goods if they are not overly generous in the present. I do enjoy almonds.
Anything special you want from the Target dollar spot?
Funny you should ask! I've been meaning to go check them out for pumpkin!!! <3 I've found some cute stuff there! I'm guessing I'll find something with skull and crossbones since Halloween is approaching. Yes?
missed questions, 9/11, + new questions:
So, in this swap, you open a goodie every day. I have seen this gift direction done several different ways, but I am interested in which you are most keen to do. Would you rather:
I'm borrowing Emma's answer, because it fits! - It's of course, up to my pumpkin, but I really really like the strictly numbered system!
The Witch is In/Out sign?
Being a therapist, I initially thought this'd be cute hanging on my door to indicate whether I'm available. Of course, I can't hang anything on my door, so...maybe not? It's really cute, though, and if I was in private practice, I'd definitely use it!
I live in The Netherlands. If there's anything in particular that you'd like to get from here, now's the time to tell!
I'm sure there are many thing, but I am naive to them. Surprise me?
I'm sort of collecting Lush showergels. Regular collection, but also many Kitchen items. Are there any showergels you'd like to try? I'd be happy to make you samples!
I've covered LUSH preferences pretty well in several questionnaires in my blog. I've got plenty Olive Branch, Blue Skies, Snowcake, Sonic Death Monkey. If it's not foody or overly floral, I'd probably like it!
What is your stance on Glitter?
It's pretty when it's contained, not when it's all over me or my furniture.
I don't have one. I have mostly professional books on my Amazon w/l if you'd like to be bored. Lol.
Monday, 9/12
how about art? (Small/mailing safe sizes, course)
Yes, provided you noted the part about colors that live in my house (or, at least general preferences). Actually, some of my very favorite things in my home have been born from my BPALista buddies. So, YES! Bring it on, if that's your thing! (My poor pumpkin will not get to benefit from personalized art, unless she wants stick figures. )
Tea lovers, what do you like from Whittard?
I know nothing of Whittard, but I have addressed tea in another question - I'd love all the herbal decaf you want to teach me about, and if you have a strong recommendation about a caffeinated tea that is good with cream, I'd try it!
Tuesday, 9/13
Dearest Pumpkin - how much are you wedded to wishlists, say I have some read once books which I think you might like based on what you've read in the past, but there is nothing of the sort on your current Goodreads "to read" list?
I think extrapolating from my w/l is reasonable. Especially since I've no Goodreads list.
I would like to be a person that wouldn't mind reading things out of order, but I am not. I like order.
Would you be interested in a Halloween themed short story anthology?
I think I might!
Is there a limit to the number of books you'd like to receive?
I'm open to reading, but I would not probably want very many physical book - maybe 2 or 3 max. I am not into physical media after my huge purge/decluttering.
Have you read Movies in 15 Minutes by our very own Cleolinda? Would you like to?
I have not read it. My brief search suggested it's parodies of movies. I think I'd enjoy it if it was a parody of movies I actually watch/have watched, but not so much if it was focused on movies depicting subject matter that does not interest me. How's that for a muddy answer?
What kind of phone do you have?
I just splurged for the iPhone 7. I'm currently with an iPhone 6S plus. I wanted to go smaller. I've had the big one for two years (since it came out), and I don't need it. And, coincidentally, a big part of that decision was based on my desire to have cute cases. Many of the cute ones I see are not made for the larger size, and that just pissed me off.
Have you seen the horror film The Babadook? If so, did you like it? Would you want something Babadook-themed?
This sounds familiar, but I think I must've just seen the ad. I don't think I actually saw the movie. Why not?
Saturday, 9/17
Those who are amenable to yarnie things--ok, two questions: Any undesirable fibers (wool allergy, vegan so no critter hair at all, etc.)? and how do you feel about cowls/infinity scarves?
I like things made of yarn, especially since I cannot make them myself. That said, I have a pretty particular aesthetic (more modern than tradiional/country). I have seen many gothic pieces on Facebook and in threads like these from BPALers who do art that I covet. With scarves, etc., the longer the better for me. I like chunky, cuddly stuff.
So who likes incense? and is there a preferred scent? and cones or sticks? Would you like a burner for it?
I love the idea of it, but as it turns out, the smoke just gets me too much (in a not good way) - even the lower smoke varieties. Thus, I stick to non-paraffin candles and essential oil diffusing for home fragrance. (Or atmo sprays, very occasionally.)
Motherhood update? I'm adding Fatherhood here, too, because I never answered (I don't think).
Oh good grief. So much. I have worked hard to minimize (are you tired of hearing reading this from me yet?), but this update looks good.
BPAL ~ Motherhood

The Great London Spaghetti Hunt
Think I might love it:
Lilith's hair gloss
Tag-Upon-Avon
Guessing I'll need 11billion bottles
The Serpentine
13 Nights of Halloween
Not much of a fan tbh. I prefer cold process soap.
Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead:
Seconding Ashinros and also Em as their comments about sum it up for me. I don't celebrate it myself and know only a little about it, but I am always open to the sharing of cultures and traditions, particularly so that I can further my understanding of them. Handknitted things:
I love handknitted things, particularly wearables, and anything Autumn themed would be great. Not so sure about knitted decorative items though. I'm sure they would be lovely but not really what I have in my home. Fandoms or specific collectibles:
None, except that I have quite a few images of hares Favourite fall/Halloween symbols:
Leaves, tree silhouettes, mushrooms, moons, deer/stags, owls, hares Soap preferences:
I'm afraid I am a bit fussy about soaps. I only use cold process soap bars, but I do like whipped soaps. Any scent combinations of those mentioned in my questionnaire are welcome. Tea preferences:
No rooibos, fruit infusions or standard black tea please. I do love spiced chai, vanilla and mint teas. Renn Faire:
I'm not really sure what would be available. Weenies past:
I think I am all sorted for Weenies bottles from previous releases. Nothing springs to mind but I will be straight back to change this if I think of anything! ETA: perhaps a tester of The Hag actually! Shawls:
Love 'em! Lush:
No thanks Opening order of gifts:
Surprise me! Which ever way/order/no order you think is best, I'm happy to follow. Pumpkin spice or no pumpkin spice:
Pumpkin spice all the things! Milk, white and/or dark chocolate:
Any but preferably milk. Yankee Candle:
I find them to be a bit hit and miss but some of their cinnamon ones are nice. Trading Post goodies:
Love 'em! Not after anything in particular apart from Gold of the Heart of that Holy Kiss atmo but any other items in scents you think I might like are very welcome. Bath and Bodyworks:
I haven't used them before so I don't really know. They don't really look like the sort of thing that I usually use though. I prefer smaller indie companies. Sock Dreams:
Anything like that in my preferred colours. They look amazing! Items from Japan:
I love traditional Japanese styles and would love to visit Japan one day. Anything would be great! Decorating with sass:
I am just not very sassy I'm afraid! Baked goods:
Sure! The only thing that would concern me is that postage times vary so hugely and I'm not sure whether they would survive the journey ok. If you think they will though, then absolutely! Just no dessicated coconut please. Target dollar spot:
We don't have Target over here, so I have no idea what there might be, but I put total trust in my scarecrow to decide for me! The Netherlands:
Anything edible! Except maybe liquorice (drop?) Lush showergel:
I don't really use Lush anymore. Goodreads:
My 'waiting to be read' list is made up of books that I own but haven't read yet. My 'to read' list is basically my book wishlist! Glitter:
I quite like glitter but my other half is not amused by it. If it can be easily contained, then I'm in! Whittard:
I don't very often buy my tea from there any more but when I did, I quite liked one called something like chocolate chai(?). How much are you wedded to wishlists?
I am very open to being introduced to new things, especially books. If you think I might like it based on my wishlists, then bring it on!
How do you feel about reading series out of order?
Absolutely fine
Would you be interested in a Halloween themed short story anthology?
Definitely! That would be ideal for me.
Is there a limit to the number of books you'd like to receive?
Nope!
Have you read Movies in 15 Minutes by our very own Cleolinda? Would you like to?
Haven't even heard of it! Erm...maybe? Art?
Sure!
Phone type:
Samsung Galaxy S2 Babadook:
Not seen it, but I do like a good scary horror. Yarnie things:
I LOVE cowls and infinity scarves and have no issues with any yarn types. Incense:
I much prefer incense sticks to cones, and I would be happy with any of the scents listed in my questionnaire. ETA: I already have a holder for sticks, thanks. Motherhood update:
A Little More Tea
Lilith and the Four Sons of Horus
My Little Grotesque
O the Joy of my Spirit
The Twelfth
13 Nights of Halloween 2016
Dia de los Muertos: Don't really celebrate it, but I like the aesthetic, and appreciate the practice of remembering and honoring departed loved ones in such awesome, happy ways. So totally send those calacas and flor de muerto seeds over here, if you are so inclined.
Handknit items: Totally! Whether it's wearable of decorative, hand done anything is always much appreciated, especially fall-themed.
Are there any fandoms or specific collectible genres you would appreciate things of/for(ex: you collect shot glasses, or the ninth Doctor is your bae)?
Books, blank journals, plants/seeds, and have been wanting to expand my strange and old photo/card collection. Probably more things, but don't even know right now. Dresden Files, LotR Pokemon, Dr. Who, Harry Potter(was sorted into Gryffindor, would probably be Ravenclaw, IRL, got sorted into Hufflepuff once[probably because they asked me questions about gardening and finding things, which are now Hufflepuff characteristics?], have nothing against Slytherin, except that the logistics of having to live in a dungeon for any length of time would drive me insane-- dungeons have no windows), Legend of Zelda, Sailor Moon, bunch of other stuff.
I'm not a hardcore fangirl on anything, but I fringe and enjoy lots of fandoms from the sidelines-- like Monster/Ever After High. Though I did just discover that there is a TV show of Ash vs. the Evil Dead, and my immediate drive was that I *needed* that, stat. Thankfully, I have honed my impulse control, for fear of becoming well-merched, but homeless. But you can bet that when that paycheck gets deposited next week, the awesomeness of Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi *will* be my treat. *mwahahahaha*
Do you have a favorite Fall/Halloween symbol?
Mine is bats. Bats all the time, doesn't even need to be seasonal. Cats, leaves, hedgehogs and creepy trees are also awesome.
First, talk to me about soaps- do you like them, and what kinds of scents/lather/varieties do you like?
I like soap, so long as it doesn't have any skin irritants, like SLS. Bar soap, soap scrub or whip; it's all good. I like the same kinds of scents I tend to like in perfume, I guess.
Second, tell me about teas! Favorites? Anything you'd like to try?
Tea is awesome. A really good jasmine tea is my favorite, I go for green over black, generally, and I seem to have developed a caffeine sensitivity over the past couple of years. This means a good decaf is even more appreciated. Herbal infusions are great, too. Not such a big fan of rooibos.
Lastly, I go to Renn Faire- is there anything from there you might like?
Beautiful costuming bits? Oh, and there always seem to be vendors with really nice perfume or aromatherapy oils and incense. Also, I don't know if all Ren' Faires have this, but the people with the poundy thing where you make your own amulet, and the ladies say 'Well struck, my lord!' every time the mallet falls? That's the best.
What Weenie of year's past are you seeking from the lab?
Hmm... Magnificent Autumn, Witch-Bride, Apple IV, Witch Riding a Dragon, A Witches' Sabbath, Young Woman Appealing to a Witch, Portrait of an Unidentified Man as Mephistopheles, and Dead Leaves, Frankincense and Copal. I think? Just testers or decants, mostly. Can you tell I pretty much missed out on Weenies last year?
Are you a shawl wearer- and if you don't wear one now, would you?
Yes, I am a shawl/scarf wearer. drapy, lovely shawls for wrapping around shoulders, and fluffy, cozy scarves that you can wrap to keep your neck warm and still have hangy bits. Scarves need to have good neck, coverage, though. The super scrawny scarves that may as well be a necklace, I don't get much use out of, sadly. Other than that, fabric and knit shawls/scarves are all wonderful.
Tell me about LUSH- do you like them? If so, what are some of your favorite things from there? Particularly fond scents or products? Stuff you can't stand?
Sandstone soap is the only specific thing I can think of off the top of my head. But I have loved their massage bars, lotions, fresh masks(Brazen Honey FTW), face cleansers(like Aqua Marina), and scrub bars(Buffy!) in the past. I just haven't been to a Lush in a long time, and have no idea what they have. For the Record, Emperor of Ice cream was once my one true Lush Love. If that were a scent, I would spray it all over everything, and then also wear it.
I don't have a tub, so bath things will be lost on me(though I did use a snowman, once, to make my underwear drawer smell *amazing*. I apologize if that is TMI).
I tend to avoid the SLS soaps (even though I *love* the scent of Honey, I Washed the Kids[or, at least, used to?]), and the solid shampoos. The little lip balm things are nice, and I've been curious about some of their perfume scents.
D! Whatever works best for you.
Who else goes for decorating with sass?
For the past few years, I have decorated with an ever decreasing half-hearted hope that there will be trick-or-treaters and awesome. Perhaps, what I need is some sass...
I live in Japan, is there anything from there you would specifically want?
Stationary(esp. Sentimental Circus), yuzu-flavored things, pictures of beautiful naturescaps-- like the Niyodo River or Ishigaki or Yakushima, .3 pilot pens in burgundy? To be honest, I'm not sure. If you think I would enjoy it, I'm sure I will.
Pumpkin Spice or No Pumpkin Spice?
I really hope I did not miss this in my questionnaire, but I have a food allergy to allspice, which is often found in pumpkin pie mix. Also, someone was kind enough to bring me home a Pumpkin Spice Latte last week-- which is usually the one no-fail pumpkin thing-- and it made me physically ill. That's fine. They seem to have been getting progressively sweeter the past few years, anyway. I'm just going to go see if the one Starbucks in the city has Frappulas again this year-- because Frappulas are delicious and involve raspberry.
That's a very long winded way of saying 'no' on pumpkin spice edibles.
Scented goods, on the other hand, are a definite possibility. So long as there is no buttery baked good-ness. B&BW Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin used to be a loved scent, once upon a time. Scents like that are A-OK.
Milk, white, and/or Dark Chocolate?
All the chocolate, so long as it isn't Hershey's chocolate, and doesn't taste like Hershey's chocolate.
Do you like Yankee Candle? Anything you want from there?
I don't dislike Yankee Candles, but I'm not into them enough to have any specific thing I want from them.
Anything you have your eye on at BPTP?
I didn't even know there'd been an update until this question.
The Serpentine, Jeune Femme Nourrissant une Licorne, Chastity with the Unicorn, and Portrait of a Young Woman with a Unicorn all sound lovely. But, again, I'm not pining over any of them, and would probably be quite pleased with a tester or decant.
Bath & Body Works
I liked them way back when the freesia actually smelled like freesias. Then they had that reformulation thing, and everything smelled all perfumey and synthetic to me. Their Halloween line is usually super cute, though, and baby bacs or tiny,anti-bac lotions to take to work would not go amiss. Also, someone told me they had a very tree-smelling Christmas candle(not that this has anything to do with Falloween).
Sockdreams
I believe there are several pair on the 'Wearables' list in my Amazon wishlist. But, honestly, I destroy socks. You would probably be better off getting yourself some lovely Sockdreams socks, and getting me some of those cute, cheapie three-use socks from the craft store. It's sad.
edit: I just added some things of Sockdreams to the Amazon thing, possibly because I cannot resist making neverending lists of shiny things-- but hopefully to help give you an idea of the kinds of socks that I should absolutely not be wearing because they would be an instant Mortal Kombat fatality at my hands--err-- feet.
I'd like to make some baked goods, would you like some? And if you have any food allergies what can I use as substitute?
Baked goods are delicious, and I would love to try your baked goods. But, please bear in mind that it is still hovering at just over and under 100* here in Bumblemoo, and will likely continue to stay in the high 90s until the end of October/mid-November, at which point there will be a sudden freeze-- because this is how it rolls out here.
But, I'm willing to risk it if you are.
As far as allergies go, I am allergic to tomatoes and tomato products-- which doesn't always extend to ketchup, but sometimes, and so I tend to avoid all the lycopene goodness of that particular food, just in case. I have no idea what you would substitute tomatoes with, but let's go with ... CUCUMBER! One can never have too much cucumber.
More problematically(and more likely, in baking), Allspice is not my friend. Pumpkin spice mix is, therefor, also not my friend, and pumpkin pie-- regardless of whether the mix has Allspice in it or not-- is also a no-go, because something about the flavor/texture combo causes my gastric system to rebel, and my throat closes up.
Please do feel free to replace pumpkin spice with cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, cardamom, ginger, sugar, saffron almond meal, or any combination of the above.
P.S.
You are awesome and thoughtful just for asking this, whether or not you are my Scarecrow, because food allergies suck, and baked goods are awesome.
The Witch is In/Out sign?
There is a distinct likelihood that I not only own a revolving tagged signboard of this, but a similarly themed t-shirt, and one that says "Witch and Famous". If it wasn't going to immediately get clocked for what word it was replacing, there is a possibility that I'd be on the lookout for a shirt that said "I'm not *a* witch, I'm THE Witch, and that's Ms. Witch to you."
But I digress. These signy things are awesome, as are the Halloween countdown ones.
Anything special you want from the Target dollar spot?
The Target Dollar Spot is like a magical stationary, sticker, and back-to-school teaching supply wonderland. I don't get into Target very often, but I'm sure their Halloween stuff must be ACE. I'll totally take anything you want to send me. A- far as not-necessarily-Halloween that may or may not be on clearance by now(the lady said two weeks, and that was a month ago...) all that stationery and planner stuff that had little leaves and flowers in muted mints, teals, and peaches? Yeah, that. Other than that, cool stick pins, post-its, totally random useful office supplies and home decor/organizational stuff...
Seriously, it is only slightly more safe leaving me to roam things like the Target Dollar Spot than it is to let me loose in a used book store.
I live in The Netherlands. If there's anything in particular that you'd like to get from here, now's the time to tell!
Salmiak lollies, honing drop, zwart witjes, original roosvicee, cassis(or cassis/zwarte bessen flavored anything), wine gums... I'd be happy with most snoep, actually. Most of the other stuff I can think of would be either really large, really heavy, or technically illegal to send.
What is your stance on Glitter?
I don't mind glitter at all-- even when it falls off. I just walk around pretending I shed faery sparkles for a while.
My Goodreads and Amazon both have dedicated wishlist sections. I think Goodreads is largely manga right now, though(because I am lazy and don't sync things).
how about art? (Small/mailing safe sizes, course)
Sure! I think there are some ideas on my Etsy list. But I'd love just about anything you wanted to make for me, too.
Tea lovers, what do you like from Whittard?
English Rose, White Peony, Black Currant, Jasmine, Jasmine pearls-- and, I've never had them but, Cherry Blossom, Pear Guava, Bohemian Raspberry, all the hot chocolate, and Orange Blossom sound kind of awesome.
Shiro Cosmetics?
I apologize, I did not see this question until someone mentioned it. Everything on the site looks awesome, but especially the duochrome shadows, Elemental Glows, Darth Side of the Moon, Blood of my Enemies, and Felix Felicis. I had a really long list of specific shadows I'd love a sample of... but then I was an idiot and paged out of the list I was making. Moon Prism Power, Apparatus, Lost Daughters, and Maiden Queen were among them ,though, I'm pretty sure.
Dearest Pumpkin - how much are you wedded to wishlists, say I have some read once books which I think you might like based on what you've read in the past, but there is nothing of the sort on your current Goodreads "to read" list?
I would definitely be interested in things not on my wishlist, if you think that I'd like them.
The only exceptions to this would be Anita Blake, Stieg Larsson, Song of Ice and Fire, and Twilight. I want none of these, please. Anita Blake because a lot of it began to feel like smut and horrible things for shock value, rather than plot structure. Stieg Larsson and SoIaF because multiple people who know me well say that-- as good as they are-- I will not be okay with them, and sparklepires because a librarian friend actually gifted me the entire series, because I needed to read it, just so I would know.
I am pretty much game for anything else, that isn't a festival of non-con, gore, or animal cruelty.
Also, I don't mind if the books are less 'like new', and more 'slightly manky'. The best books are not always the shiny, pristine ones.
I have no problem with this, at all. I read books out of order all the time.
Would you be interested in a Halloween themed short story anthology?
Sure!
Is there a limit to the number of books you'd like to receive?
There is no such things as "too many books", "only not enough space" and "not enough years left in life." I have long surpassed the not enough years freak out, and I will *find* space. Oh yes.
Have you read Movies in 15 Minutes by our very own Cleolinda? Would you like to?
I've read a couple of them... on Livejournal? but a lot of the movies listed in the table of contents are not my cup of tea. So I will pass. It still floors me, though, how many fabulously talented people there are on the forum. That's so awesome.
Question: What kind of phone do you have? I need to know....
I have a Amazon Fire Phone-- which I flung off of a blanket and up into the air last month, shattering the screen... It *was* a pretty awesome phone. I will probably be breaking down and start paying installments on a Galaxy Note 7 at next month's paycheck.
13 nights of Halloween 2016
paintboxsoapworks/PBSW: I couldn’t help myself and already placed an order with Creeping Horror soap, Red Right Hand lotion, What the Moon Brings lotion & soy wax melts. I would like to try the bath streusel – Indian Summer is a favorite and so is Smoky Jack.
Dia de los Muertos/Day of the Dead: I don’t celebrate Dia de los Muertos. I appreciate the rich traditions, but don’t take part.
Ren Faire – I’ve never been to one! I really don’t know what is even available.
Fandoms - Harry Potter (when I read the books, I thought I was Ravenclaw, but I’ve come to realize that I am in fact Slytherin), Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (LOVE the fae in this book), Outlander, Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha books, Oliver Potzsch’s Hangman’s Daughter series, Downton Abbey, Great British Baking Show. For collecting, if a cat is involved, then yes.
Knitted items – I like mittens, scarves, arm warmers. Nothing too thick or heavy, since we don't get very cold winters in Louisiana.
Fall/Halloween icons – Black cats, witches, vampires, ghosts, mummies, skeletons, werewolves, a lot of vintage Halloween things (especially old postcard images), the Headless Horseman, Jack o’lanterns. My next door neighbors get super into zombies and turn their front yard into a zombie graveyard, so their decorations fill my zombie quota for the season. I do like colorful fall leaves and as an Illinois native now in Louisiana, that’s what I miss most.
Soaps – I do like bar soaps for the shower and liquid (or foam!!) for hand soaps.
Teas – I like black teas best, herbal is also good in fruity flavors. Chai is lovely.
Past Weenies – Oh, the Sleepy Hollow collection. That unfortunately was released when I took a bpal break and I missed all of it
Others include The Unquiet Grave, Pumpkin Lager, Halloween: New Orleans, A World where there are Octobers
Are you a shawl wearer- and if you don't wear one now, would you? - Not really
Tell me about LUSH- do you like them? If so, what are some of your favorite things from there? Particularly fond scents or products? Stuff you can't stand? - Never tried Lush. Fizzy bath things are fun, though!
Haha, just make it easy for me and number them.
I live in Japan, is there anything from there you would specifically want?
Nothing specific, I'm open to surprises
Pumpkin Spice or No Pumpkin Spice?
Yay to pumpkin spices like cinnamon, ginger, and cloves...Nay to nutmeg. It's fine if it's sprinkled in with other spices in a baking mix or something, but stand-alone nutmeg is just awful to me.
Milk, white, and/or Dark Chocolate?
Dark dark dark. And never white chocolate, it's just too sweet for me.
Do you like Yankee Candle? Anything you want from there?
I prefer waxes or tarts to candles, just because open flame + cats is not the best idea.
Anything you have your eye on at BPTP?
Very curious about the hair glosses. The Crimson Peak claw polishes are gorgeous, too.
Bath & Body Works
No thanks
Sockdreams
Footie socks! The sockness monster and the shark attack are adorable!
Baked goods - It's still really hot here, so most baked items wouldn't do well sitting on my porch after delivery. But I'd love baking mixes that I could make myself
Anything special you want from the Target dollar spot?
Nothing special, but you're welcome to choose something
Witch In/Out Sign-
No thanks
I live in The Netherlands. If there's anything in particular that you'd like to get from here, now's the time to tell!
I'm willing to try any yummy treats
I'm sort of collecting Lush showergels.Regular collection, but also many Kitchen items. Are there any showergels you'd like to try? I'd be happy to make you samples!
I'd rather have soap, I don't really use showergel that much.
What is your stance on Glitter?
I'm fine with it in decorating & crafts
Also, if you have a Goodreads or other online reading log, does it include a wishlist? Otherwise, is it safe to assume books on the 'to-read' section are wishlist items? Or are you less into keeping a physical copy of the book, and instead prefer to turn to the awesomeness of the library to get your to-read need accomplished.
And I'll be working on my goodreads all day now It's a bit of a mess because I had used shelfari for years, but had to export all of that to goodreads. I'm making an "on my wishlist" tag for books that I want on my bookshelves at home.
Tea lovers, what do you like from Whittard?
Never tried. I just looked at their website and I'd try anything (just not decaffeinated, I love my caffeine)
how about art? (Small/mailing safe sizes, course)
Yes
Dearest Pumpkin - how much are you wedded to wishlists, say I have some read once books which I think you might like based on what you've read in the past, but there is nothing of the sort on your current Goodreads "to read" list?
Always open to new books, especially historical fiction
How do you feel about reading series out of order? Obviously not in situations where the subsequent books are part of the same story arc where you will be totally lost and frustrated if you haven't read all of them, but say, standalone stories which are technically part of a series and which might obliquely reference past books, but not in such as way as to spoil the plot of the book which I happen to have in my possession that you might like.
Totally fine with it, as long as I'm not missing something critical. But standalone stories are great - and with mystery/crime series, I usually pick and choose random ones that interest me rather than reading all books in the series.
Would you be interested in a Halloween themed short story anthology?
Yes
Is there a limit to the number of books you'd like to receive?
Since I work at a library (but in the local history/genealogy section), I do have access to pretty much any book I want. And I love getting the ARCs when they go to discard. Maybe limit books to 2, since my to-read mountain grows larger every month.
Movies in 15 Minutes?
I don't know what this is
What kind of phone do you have?
droid turbo 2
Have you seen the horror film The Babadook? If so, did you like it? Would you want something Babadook-themed?
Haven't seen it
Those who are amenable to yarnie things--ok, two questions: Any undesirable fibers (wool allergy, vegan so no critter hair at all, etc.)? and how do you feel about cowls/infinity scarves?
No scratchy wool please. I do like infinity scarves!
Motherhood update:
So excited about the update!! I'd really like to try these: A Little More Tea, Funerary Papyri, Lilith & Sekhmet, Holy Trinity, Little Lady Frankenstein, Stonehenge at Dusk, Heel.
So who likes incense? and is there a preferred scent? and cones or sticks? Would you like a burner for it?
I never use incense, it's just not my thing
13 Nights of Halloween 2016
Anything here: http://paintboxsoapworks.com/ look like something you'd like to try (assuming that you're not already ordering it)?
My own answer is that I need just about everything in Red Right Hand, but I will probably be taking care of that myself.
Do you like stuff related to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)?
I love Day of the Dead conceptually and have been fascinated with it ever since reading Ray Bradbury's stories about Mexico as a kid, but the mass commodification of it makes me a little uncomfortable as a lily white atheist. I do have some beautiful sugar skull items which were given to me by someone sharing her culture which I treasure and I would absolutely welcome more in that vein.
Knitted Items?
Absolutely! I would particularly be interested in fingerless gloves, but just about anything, really. <3
Fandom/Specific Items?
Harry Potter, Ghostbusters (especially the new one), Doctor Who, Star Wars, also happy to take any My Little Pony stuff off your hands for my 6 year old (or me l).
Fall/Halloween Icons?
Bats, owls, gargoyles, skeletons, ravens,
First, talk to me about soaps- do you like them, and what kinds of scents/lather/varieties do you like?
Love soap! I tend to prefer hot process to glycerin, scents I think I cover pretty well in my questionnaire.
Second, tell me about teas! Favorites? Anything you'd like to try?
I love chocolate flavored and other sweet flavored teas, all the apple, pumpkin, chai this time of year.
Lastly, I go to Renn Faire- is there anything from there you might like?
It has been so long since I've been to one, I'm not even sure what I might like - jewelry, maile, that sort of thing is always good, I guess.
What Weenie of year's past are you seeking from the lab?
Nothing in particular. In terms of what I'm looking for and didn't purchase, my wishlist is in my sig.
Are you a shawl wearer- and if you don't wear one now, would you?
I would happily be a shawl wearer.
Tell me about LUSH- do you like them? If so, what are some of your favorite things from there? Particularly fond scents or products? Stuff you can't stand?
I don't care for their soap and I don't have a bathtub, so I don't currently have a use for bombs or melts...so, basically, I like Lush conceptually, but I don't actually use most of their products right now. I do love me some Lemony Flutter. Maybe lotion?
Japanese goodies?
I love Japanese sweets and Sanrio/Kawaii cuteness.
I have received and given all of these ways and love them all. I know that is totally no help.
The Witch is In/Out sign?
That is super cute! I could definitely find a use for something like that.
Pumpkin Spice or No Pumpkin Spice?
ALL THE PUMPKIN SPICE!!!!! Although I prefer caramel apple Oreos and Milky Ways.
Milk, white, and/or Dark Chocolate?
Milk or white. If there is something amazing and on the sweet side that only comes in dark, I don't dislike it, but I prefer rich chocolate tastes to bitter ones.
Do you like Yankee Candle? Anything you want from there?
I'm not opposed and I love autumn scents, but I'm not familiar enough with their current line to have strong preferences.
Anything you have your eye on at BPTP?
Not in particular, but I'm always happy for decants from my wishlist.
Bath and Body Works - yay or nay?
Personally, I am a fan of their lotion and body wash, but not any of their perfume/body sprays/etc (unless you have a stockpile of their dry spray that came in an aerosol can that's been out of production for a couple of years). I also really like their handsoaps for the sink, but have a ton. Likewise, candles.
Tell me of your Sock Dreams, please!
Link to my wishlist is in the post below this one!
I'd like to make some baked goods, would you like some? And if you have any food allergies what can I use as substitute?
Absolutely. No allergies, but I definitely want full sugar, no stevia or anything.
Anything special you want from the Target dollar spot?
I haven't checked it out recently, but I often find fun sticky notes or magnetic notepads there, fun pens, little art supplies.
I live in The Netherlands. If there's anything in particular that you'd like to get from here, now's the time to tell!
Struphwaffles (I am sure that I just butchered that), and I still covet more of the chocolate covered salty licorice that you, Nemi, sent me in another swap.
I'm sort of collecting Lush showergels.Regular collection, but also many Kitchen items. Are there any showergels you'd like to try? I'd be happy to make you samples!
I have no idea about any of these, so sure! I do like shower gel.
What is your stance on Glitter?
I have a 6 year old child who loves anything that sparkles. Thankfully, my stance on glitter is essentially bring it on or I would have already become homicidal.
My Goodreads is pretty comprehensive and I try to be good about noting whether I already have a copy or whether I want a copy as part of my sub-shelves - generally speaking, if it is marked as want-a-copy, I specifically want to own it, not get it from the library. If it is marked as on-my-shelves, I have a copy, I've just yet to read it. Otherwise, things are fair game. If I have neglected to note that I already own something that is on my to-read shelf and you end up sending me something that I already have, well, that's my bad.
Tea lovers, what do you like from Whittard?
I have never tried them, but would happily do so!
how about art? (Small/mailing safe sizes, course)
I have fairly limited space in our new house due to the layout, so while my answer is always yes, I'm a little less enthusiastic than I might otherwise be just due to circumstances.
Dearest Pumpkin - how much are you wedded to wishlists, say I have some read once books which I think you might like based on what you've read in the past, but there is nothing of the sort on your current Goodreads "to read" list?
I am not at all wedded to them. I do suggest checking my "read" shelf at Goodreads before investing in off-wishlist books, but I am always thrilled to receive new options that I may not have thought of or discovered yet!
In the situation I'm describing, I am totally fine - if you have, say, the 4th Tana French novel, send it on. If the story relies heavily on past action, I'd rather not, but especially for long detective series and others where the basic plot is wrapped up in each book, that's fine.
Would you be interested in a Halloween themed short story anthology?
Absolutely. I have Halloween edited by Paula Guran, but not any others.
Is there a limit to the number of books you'd like to receive?
I wouldn't want to only receive books, but I would be happy to have 3-4 nights of them if there's stuff you think I'd love.
Movies in 15 Minutes?
Why yes, I have read it and have a copy I'd love to pass on to a fellow forumite.
Question: What kind of phone do you have? I need to know....
I have a Galaxy S5 Active at present, but will hopefully be upgrading to a 7 at some point during the swap.
Have you seen the horror film The Babadook? If so, did you like it? Would you want something Babadook-themed?
I haven't seen it. Based on the description I googled I can't decide if I would probably love it or spend the entire time feeling ill over kids in danger.
Those who are amenable to yarnie things--ok, two questions: Any undesirable fibers (wool allergy, vegan so no critter hair at all, etc.)? and how do you feel about cowls/infinity scarves?
I'm not allergic or vegan or otherwise totally opposed to anything, but wool is definitely not my favorite fiber unless it is super soft. That's really my biggest requirement - I like things super soft. In terms of infinity scarves, I've never really gotten the knack for them. Which doesn't mean I'm opposed to them, I just don't have any.
Motherhood update:
Haven't had a chance to look at it yet, but will update!
So who likes incense? and is there a preferred scent? and cones or sticks? Would you like a burner for it?
Not sure if I mentioned this in my survey, but ABSOLUTELY NO INCENSE PLEASE. It will never ever get used unless I send it to someone else and is frequently a migraine trigger. So please no thank you.
13 Nights Questions
I would like to try their 221B scent, and the englishman, and it can be in any form, but I think I would like it in the wax tarts the best
Do you like stuff related to Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)?
Yes I do, very much. Anything would be appreciated.
Knitted Items?
Yes please! I crochet mainly but have done a few knitted items, but don't have any real talent for it- my pieces usually look fairly wonky. And by having done small amounts of it myself, I truly appreciate the work that goes into every item.
Fandom/Specific Items?
There is alot to choose from when it comes to me... Dr who, Sherlock Holmes, Labyrinth, the Dark Crystal, anything disney,
Fall/Halloween Icons?
Bats, owls, pumpkins (so much so I have a tattoo of one), witches, skeletons, ravens,
First, talk to me about soaps- do you like them, and what kinds of scents/lather/varieties do you like?
I do like soap, and am willing to try news ones all the time.
Second, tell me about teas! Favorites? Anything you'd like to try?
I am open to anything, no real preference except I don't like chais very much.
Lastly, I go to Renn Faire- is there anything from there you might like?
I love Ren Faires!! I would happily accept anything my swapper wants to gift me, it's all so much fun
What Weenie of year's past are you seeking from the lab?
PAn Dwardowski and the devil <-- big want!!Theme in Yellow, October, Tattie Bogle, Anything with Hay or Wood or leather would be nice, but steer clear of cinnamon...
Lush? I love their flying fox scent.
I live in Japan, is there anything from there you would specifically want? Since I have never been to Japan, I don't know exactly what there is to want But, if my Scarecrow thinks there is something particularly awesome that needs to be shared around the globe I'm all for it. And, I don't mind Hello Kitty
Just Surprise me. Maybe my scarecrow isn't the kind to be all methodical and stuf and I don't want to have them losing their straw ( <--- see what I did there) stressing out about it.
Scarecrow/pumpkin? I vote yes, as this post clearly indicates lol.
Pumpkin Spice or No Pumpkin Spice?
"To be clear, I like the SPICE. And I like fresh, actual pumpkin things- pumpkin pie, etc.
BUT, I do NOT like pumpkin+spice *perfume*. All the Pumpkin Patch scents go wrong on me, sadly. And if you have some Pumpkin King that you'd like to send me...well, I would NOT turn that down! ;)" Quoting because it applies to me as well
Milk, white, and/or Dark Chocolate?
Anything but white please.
Do you like Yankee Candle? Anything you want from there?
I like their witch's brew, but the black magic that I have smelled is better to me.
Trading Post Goodies?
But of course!
Bath and Bodyworks?
B&B is not for me, except for their hand sanitzers, but no foody scents in those.
Tell me of your Sock Dreams, please!
http://www.sockdreams.com/_users/wishlists/64647964795ad23
i'd like to make some baked goods, would you like some? And if you have any food allergies what can I use as a substitute?
Well I am allergic to wheat and although Quinoa or tapioca or rice or a combination of those flours work , it really depends on the recipe and what you're making. It doesn't always translate well. If you still want to bake me something, the 6 other beings in my house wouldn't have a problem with it! I wanted to let you know that it wouldn't go to waste.
What is your stance on Glitter?
Yes. I do glitter
Goodreads/book wish list:
I do not have one, sorry.
Witch In/Out Sign
Sure!
Art
Absolutely.
Dearest Pumpkin - how much are you wedded to wishlists, say I have some read once books which I think you might like based on what you've read in the past, but there is nothing of the sort on your current Goodreads "to read" list?
Yes, please!
How do you feel about reading series out of order?
If they aren't tied to one another in an absolute way, but can stand alone as stories on their own, then that is ok.
Would you be interested in a Halloween themed short story anthology?
Yes
Is there a limit to the number of books you'd like to receive?
Nope
Have you read Movies in 15 Minutes by our very own Cleolinda? Would you like to?
I haven't but would like to.
Those who are amenable to yarnie things--ok, two questions: Any undesirable fibers (wool allergy, vegan so no critter hair at all, etc.)? and how do you feel about cowls/infinity scarves?
I am good for any fibre as long as it isn't rough and scratchy, and I would be grateful to receive anything my scarecrow makes for me.
Motherhood update: Good Morning London, Plush Viscera- These are both needs, in my opinion lol.
So who likes incense? and is there a preferred scent? and cones or sticks? Would you like a burner for it?
I would love to burn some incense. And I would take either cones or sticks and a burner would be nice, but not necessary.
From: Weenie Stalking 2016!
Testing Notes: Rome
Refined, austere and graceful. A recipe gleaned from Classical Rome: cypress, juniper, chamomile and rose.
I was definitely intrigued by the chamomile note. I grew up drinking chamomile as the Italian cure-all. Got a sore stomach? Drink chamomile. Have a cold? Chamomile with some honey and lemon. Puffy eyes? Use cold chamomile bags.
Wet: At first Rome is overwhelmingly green. It's fresh, slightly earthy. Almost pine-y. There's a hint of something herbal lurking but the rose is nowhere to be found. I don't mind it, although it's possibly a little more masculine than I would normally wear.
Drying: The rose comes out within the first five minutes and then I like Rome a lot more. It's a fresh, green rose but there's still something herbal about it. I'm not sure i really smell the chamomile, to be honest. But there's something here that stops Rome from smelling like a basic fresh-cut rose and grass type of scent. It's a little more complex than that.
Dry: Soft, pretty and dry green rose. There's something almost hay-like in the dry down. It's very wearable. I think I'm a fan. Will definitely be giving this imp another try in the future.

Just Some Ramblings
I finished reading "Perfume: The Art and Craft of Fragrance" by Karen Gilbert (ISBN: 9781782490449). I think a friend gave me the book. It definitely reiterated what actual perfumers and aromatherapy persons will reiterate. One: That the oils/scents put into the creations are sensitive to heat, light, and the fluctuations of the place where the oils/scents are being stored. Two: That it's better to store original oils and finished products by scent family.
So unfortunately I will be discarding the rest of my BPAL. I wish I had a lot of female friends and family around me, but I don't. Otherwise I would have had a party or get-together and passed out the BPAL among them. I believe I have enough containers to empty out the bottles, recycle the glass, and take a container or two of the liquid to Hazardous Waste for my community.
I live in South Florida. It's hot here during the summer. Sometimes the AC can't even keep up with us keeping our house at 78*F, and goes up to 80*F. Also, I stupidly put the BPAL in bags & plastic boxes, and kept them according to year. The Pumpkin scents definitely overwhelmed a lot of the other scents. To those who were actually happy with your purchases, that's great. To those who weren't, my sincerest apologies. I truly wish I'd read more about perfumes sooner, preferably before being given them by a friend and starting to resell them. I don't know for sure what I'm going to do for money yet, since I'm also Diabetic, have PCOS, and an under-working thyroid, which is genetic.
I just wanted to let you all know, especially the moderators why I'm taking my list down soon, and why I will no longer be selling such an obsessive scented item. I still plan on reading "Essence & Alchemy: A Natural History of Perfume" by Mandy Aftel, and "Fragrant: The Secret Life of Scent" by Mandy Aftel. I hope that the sellers and buyers on here do understand what you're getting into by buying BPAL from re-sellers who aren't licensed. I didn't and I regret it. Enjoy what's left of your summer.
Sincerely,
Amy Elizabeth
Testing Notes: Venice
A complex, voluptuous scent that captures the robust beauty of the Italian Renaissance: lemon, red currant, wisteria, red rose petals, heady jasmine, Florentine orris root, waterlily, red sandalwood, violet plum, and violet leaf.
I'm testing this from an imp I recently purchased. Colour me intrigued. I'm not sure how I feel about this scent or whether I would wear it out, but it's interesting.
There are two distinct feelings going on with Venice:
One side is heady and lush. Bold and rich and colourful. Red. There's a mixture of florals - rose and jasmine playing up most on my skin - combined with sweet, ripe fruits. It's sexy and decadent.
But there's another side that's oddly fresh. Out of place. It peeks out from under the flowers and surprises me. I have no idea what it is - perhaps the violet leaf? For some reason it makes me think of the underbelly being hidden by all the jewels and silks and powders of the renaissance. Something that those things were trying to cover up.
The longer I wear this the more I think it's not for me. I don't love this strange combination, but I am fascinated by it. It's a creative scent, maybe one for activating the mind rather than the nose.
Testing Notes: The Lotus Tree & Blossoms in Springtime
Vanilla bean and vanilla blossom, golden honey, antiqued amber, beeswax, copal, lotus blossom, and helichrysum.
I bought a bottle of this blind a while ago based on the notes list (vanilla and honey? Sold!) and it did not disappoint.
It's sweet and musky, almost like an old-fashioned cosmetic scent but it's made richer by the honey and amber notes. Beautiful scent, definitely something that makes me happy when I wear it. I had someone comment that it smelled like baby powder on me, which I get. For me, that's a positive because I love powder scents. Very happy to have this in my collection.
Two things to note: one, the liquid is very red so I need to remember not to wear this if I've got anything white on. Secondly, the oil irritated my skin a little because I applied it about an hour after I'd worked out (after a shower) and my skin must have been a little sensitive then.
The Lotus Tree (Rappaccini's Garden)
Honey-sweet and soporific.
Testing this from an imp and it's totally my jam. I feel like Rappaccini's Garden is my BPAL happy place, I've tried so many scents from that group and I'm finding winner after winner. Man I love florals.
Wet: Honey and honeysuckle, with a touch of something fruity. Maybe apricot. I'm getting a very 'golden' vibe from this scent and I really like it. It's warm and rich and sticky sweet without feeling too candy-like.
Dry: Sweet musky honey and a touch of woods. I get a little vanilla creaminess from it as well. It's cosy, comforting and more subtle than the opening.
Overall: Big thumbs up on this one. I'm going to wear this again and possibly put it on my FB wishlist.
Testing Notes: Queen of Hearts
I remember testing this when I first got the imp a few years back and not loving it. Cherry and I have a rocky relationship.
Wet: actually better than I remembered but still VERY sweet. The cherry note doesn't have that strange medicinal/syrupy feel that it usually has on my skin, which is a positive. But it also doesn't smell like real cherries. It's more like a cherry-flavoured candy at this point. The lilies have an almost desert-like feel to them and none of that heady richness that I normally love in a lily scent.
Dry: Queen of Hearts becomes quite powdery on my skin when it dries, which I do like. But it's still too sweet, unfortunately. It's also very simple, not a lot of development on the skin and it doesn't feel very layered or complex.
Overall: Not as bad as I remembered, but still not for me.
Testing Notes: Boo 2010 (Halloweenie)
This is decanted sample from a swap.
Wet: There's something instantly that I dislike about this, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I feel like I should like it - it's simple, creamy, slightly sweet. All the things I look for in this type of scent. But there's something strange and off-putting about this when it's first applied. I would be curious to try another version of Boo and see if it perhaps that the sample hasn't aged well.
Dry: I like it much better dry than wet, that funky note seems to have now disappeared. It's a soft milky scent with a hint of vanilla, but I don't really get the cotton/linen notes at all. While it's not earth-shatteringly unique, I enjoy how calm and comforting Boo is. It's the kind of scent I reach for when I'm having a day at home and I want something easy and pleasant. I find myself reaching for these types of scents often.
Overall: I'm keen to try another version of Boo and see if that weird opening note is present.
BPAL FB Collection - June 2016
Bottles that have been used up: Snooty Rose (Alice in Wonderland)
Testing Notes: AEVAL
I'm testing an imp of this, but I'm not sure where it came from. Might have been an extra in a swap. The notes really intrigued me, especially the sage and tonka combination.
Wet: Initially there's something a little 'fabric softener' about this, which I think might be the sweet pea note. It kind of screams 'fresh' at you. There's a hint of green behind the sweet flowers and musk, but it gets lost and I wouldn't have picked it to be sage without reading the description first. Definitely not my kind of floral on first impression.
Dry: I like it much better dry than wet, although still not enough that I would hunt a bottle down. In the dry down, the musk comes out. It's slightly powdery, slightly creamy. There's a soft nuttiness from the tonka and florals feel much more balanced and less soapy than in the opening. It's pretty, but it's not a scent that really sings to me.
Overall: I would play around with this imp again, but at this stage I won't be trying to track down a bottle or any further imps.
Long time no sniff & Black Rose
All good things.
But it has left little opportunity to do more than spritz on my old faithfuls before I fly out the door. Also, most of perfume has been sitting at my parent's house back in Australia. So when I finally got the chance to bring my box of perfumes to Canada with me, I felt all the old excitement coming back. It's a creative passion for me, and I'm not the type of have a signature scent. Why limit yourself when there are so many wonderful scents to explore?
My collection is an eclectic mix of higher-end and mainstream EDP/Ts, some treasured indies and a small-ish (but hopefully growing) stash of BPAL perfume oils. It's floral heavy, but with a few orientals, classics and warm amber/vanilla scents thrown in for good measure. Something for every mood and whim. I have a bag of imps that's like a lucky dip, since it's been so long since I looked up any of the descriptions or reviews.
I'm hopping a little blogging here will be a good way to keep track of what I try and of how the scents make me feel.
Since all the names of the imps are a bit lost on me, I picked a full bottle since that was sure to be a safe bet: Black Rose
Testing Notes: BPAL Black Rose (Rappaccini's Garden)
Exquisitely melancholy. The background scent to an ancient exequies. Heavy, dark and floral: a blend of roses, with a touch of amber and musk.
Black Rose smells exactly like I thought it would when I first tried it a few years back: deep, rich, musky with a hint of sweetness. It's a big, bold rose. Slightly old-fashioned (which I see as a compliment) but doesn't feel dusty or soap-like. It's juicy, ripe. Voluptuous. Like a rose that's almost past full bloom.
I don't really get the amber from the description, which is a shame. On my skin it's definitely heavier on the musk. But there's a hint of something darker, almost incense-y. It's definitely sexy in a red-lipstick and all-black outfit kind of way.
Wear notes: it's heavy, definitely not a summer scent. Dry down is more musk than rose, smells great right through.
Definitely worth my full bottle. I love this scent!
Edited to add: I saw quite a few people on the thread about this perfume mention incense, and when I wore this out of the house two separate people commented that they thought they could smell incense while standing close to me. So perhaps that's the 'darkness' I'm getting from it.
Virtual Vacation Summer 2016
I'm a huge makeup fan and will use pretty much anything color and finish wise. Except black, because that's kind of expected of me, and I like to confuse people, especially when it comes to makeup.
This thursday I will go on holiday to two Asian countries. Would you like it when I'd shop (some of) your souvenirs over there? As in: do you like Asian stuff? Or would you prefer souvenirs from The Netherlands only?
Souvenirs from anywhere are neat! Asian stuff is awesome!
Ring sizes? Any kinds of metals you don't like?
I don't wear any jewelry.
What about general clothing sizes? Unisex shirts?
Unisex xxl! I have boobs *and* hips.
Shoe (sock ) size?
US women's 10/men's and UK 8.
Do you collect anything, or is there anything like a theme, animal, character etc. that you MUST HAVE when you see it?
I've kind of accidentally started a magnet collection! I dream of having a robot magnet army, but I think that I only have two so far. I have lots of other kinds of magnets, though, and I'm always on the lookout for the next one to be added to my collection. The kitschier the better!
ETA Black cats! How in the world did I forget them?
New Question: I come from Texas, where we love our spicy food! Do you like hot food? How do you feel about both salsa (like you dip tortilla chips in) and hot sauce (like Tabasco, only better)? Would you like to try a classic hot Texas treat like peach jalapeno jam? Is there any Texan or Southern food you've been interested in trying, like pecan pralines, or pecan brittle, etc?
I don't do spicy stuff. Like at all. Nacho Cheese Doritos are about as spicy as I can go. Even Taco Doritos are sometimes too much. Salsa is out of the question due to spice *and* cilantro (I'm allergic to that stuff). No hot sauce, ever. Basically, as far as spice goes, I'm an eighty-year-old man with a chronic ulcer. Anything nut-related is awesome, though (at least as long as it's not spicy)!
Being in DC and working at a semi-tourist attraction with gift shops I have relatively easy access to a wide variety of souvenir goodies, particularly related to the performing arts. Would you be interested in something like a flask with a costume design from the Washington National Opera Ring cycle? Or a mug that says "Diva" or a pretty cherry blossom print tee? (Just to name a few. ;-)
Yes! I love touristy trinkety things. Probably not something with "Diva" on it, though, because I have a coworker who will sulk and pout until I give whatever it is to her (she's too old to sulk and pout, but she does it anyway).
Would you say you were in any 'fandoms' or at least what are some of the popular books/tv shows/etc you are into?
Fandom-oriented programming is where I spend most of my leisure time, so my list is massive, but I'll try to narrow things down to just a few of the main ones: the Marvel movie/tv/Netflix universe (including Deadpool and the X-Men franchise in this even though Marvel didn't actually make them), Game of Thrones (show only), any tv show or movie based on a comic book or graphic novel (except the Snyder DC Murderverse. Yes, I know I also specified Marvel. That's because it's my biggest obsession!), Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Supernatural. Oh, and horror movies (not any particular one. I just love horror movies in general. The scarier and creepier, the better)
My locale is known for its cheese. Are you interested in receiving some cheese? If so, what kinds do you like?
Ugh, I LOVE CHEESE. Except for blue variants (Gorgonzola, Roquefort, etc.). I hate those due to migraine issues. I've been known to just cut off a chunk of cheddar or mozzarella and call that dinner. I'm trying to decide whether I like goat cheese, and I'm not a huge fan of brie, but I'm always up for trying new cheese (as long as it's not spicy or blue).
Another from me (Em) - Would you be interested in books from local authors or music from local bands and if so, any particular genres you particularly love or hate?
Those would be fun! For books, I'm a particular fan of thrillers, horror, science fiction, graphic novels, and cookbooks. I'm not big on romance or high fantasy (or whatever you would call things like Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones. I'm intrigued by the idea of urban fantasy, but I'm not sure I've actually read any, so I'm not sure). For music, yeesh, just about anything except contemporary country and opera, although I mostly listen to rock and rock variants (right now, iTunes is playing the Dead Kennedys while I load the Tragically Hip onto my phone before I take off to see Paul Simon). I'm a sucker for catchy tunes you can sing along to (summer jams are a particular weakness for me).
Dark or milk chocolate?
Yes! Oh. Wait. That's probably meant as either/or. Hmm. Dark.
My question: pickles? Here in the south everyone does their own pickles. And pickled pole beans! Bread and butter, sweet, and dill! Yes or no? Any you hate or love?
Hmm... I like dill pickles. Not sweet (I think bread and butter are sweet for me), not spicy. Garlicky stuff is awesome! And now that I think about it, I don't think I've had anything pickled aside from cucumbers.
Netherlands snacks?
Pretty much anything! I had a bag on Johnny Doodle salty fudge one time that tragically emptied far more quickly than I would have liked.
Review Format for Emphemeris
A comprehensive guide to the ERS including measurements for review: Grading Criteria, Review Categories, Review Format, etc.
It is a format that I created to provide consistency throughout my reviews from 2016 onwards.
Review Format
Reviews will follow specific review formatting and will be based on several grading criteria in using the following format and colour scheme:
Title: (Description)
| Initial Notes | Wet | Dry | Verdict | Other Recommendations |
Initial Notes : Otherwise known as "in the bottle/imp". This criterion notes initial thoughts about the scent in relation to listed notes and components; prior to contact with any skin chemistry reactions.
Wet: This criterion describes thoughts about the fragile top notes; mainly scent reactions upon active contact with skin chemistry when wet.
Dry : This criterion assesses the drydown, and comprise mostly the middle and base notes; the extent the scent has reacted to the author's skin chemistry.
Verdict : Grade class and Rank Listed in the following format: [several word summary] X (n )
Other Recommendations: Similar BPAL scents that may appeal to those who like components found in the reviewed scent will be suggested here, based on my own personal opinion.
Review Categories
To simplify the process, reviews have been limited to three categories:
| Limited Edition | Permanent Line | General Catalog |
Limited Edition (LE ) : Scents that are available for a sensitive period of time or offered as a limited run with numerically specific units.
Permanent Line (PL ) : Scents that are available under the extensive BPAL catalog alongside the GC range but are not offered in 1ml samples. They often do not have a fixed period of time they are available, but not part of the GC range
General Catalogue (GC) : Scents which appear as part of the general catalogue list.
Grading Criteria
The 2016 grading system for reviews takes advantage of the classical 1-10 scale and assigns a 'grade class' in the form of a letter.; the higher the number, the greater the overall rank and result.
| S+/S (10) A+ (9) A (8) A- (7) B+ (6) B (5) B- (4) C+ (3) C (2) C- (1) F (0) |
F-Class results are acquired by scents that do not appeal to me or react to my chemistry. It is important to note that this system is purely graded by the author's personal opinion and taken with half a grain of salt. As always, YMMV. Reviews will rarely procure S-Class results as they reflect scents that transcend beyond my control to grade them any less. They are reserved only for scents I find are elite scents that rise above the rest in my opinion.
BPAL signature icon
Collection of Impressions in image form.
Scents I have written under this review system will have an attached signature icon for rotational use on the BPAL forum. The signature icon will describe the overall theme and feel of the scent, summed up as a picture. This is an alternate form of describing and rating; instead of simply indicating a colour, suggesting the mood/emotion, or writing an anecdotal memory the scent reminds me of, all scents which I review under this system will sum up my collection of thoughts into a single BPAL signature icon to represent my general impression.
