Summer 2013 Switch Witch

Hello!   If you have drawn me in the switch-witch fun, then I guess you either live outside North America or you said you were happy to deal with Internationals. Thank you very, very much for your generosity and open-mindedness in volunteering : I'm really grateful. The fun of swapping is one of my favourite things about BPAL and it's a pain that shipping makes it a bit harder to join in from here.   Since I am saying a big fat NO THANK YOU to so many of the suggestions in the questions, I'm going to post another blog after this with oodles of ideas of things I do like. Many are just symbols or ideas, others are more tangible and practical, but I hope they'll be useful and maybe a bit more fun to read than just me saying no the whole time!   I tried to put suggestions in my questionnaire about how it could be easier to post things, but maybe you have loads of ideas anyway - or you live near me (but postage is still a lot actually).   I have set up an Amazon wish-list for this, in case it helps. It does feel a bit blatant to "ask" like this - and maybe you won't really feel drawn to anything on it. But in case it helps:   http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/wishlist/RV3Q9VX26IOC/   If you can get your hands on even a drop of any of these, I would love to try them:   The Most Magnificent Christmas Tree, Now Winter Nights Enlarge, Mother Ginger, A Dreary Night of November.   One idea that has just come to me: I enjoy doodling. Nice paper for it would be great (I have coloured pens already). Ikea do a range of paper products now - notecards and books and so on - which I love. Good writing paper is also a passion of mine.   Just in case someone would find my answers to these questions useful, here they are:   Are you interested in Dr Who? No. I watch it but I really can't say I'm a great fan in any way - it's just something that my husband and I like to watch together. We watch very little tv at all in fact - about a couple of hours a month. Do you wear lip balm? No. Do you wear lip gloss? No. Do you like tea, or coffee? I do like tea but not usually "flavoured" ones, I prefer particular teas such as Darjeeling, Lapsang Souchong and so on. One exception is vanilla scented black tea which I have loved in the past. Coffee - I do enjoy it (we use ground, in a cafetierre) but I'm no connoisseur. Who is your favourite female of all time? Oooh, lovely juicy question! Tempting to say my mother, who is a retired surgeon, and very loving, and cunningly wily. But today I'll pick Catherine Destivelle, who is a French climber. A leading woman in her sport, and someone who moved from roped climbing to soloing in search of fresh adventure in middle-age. A true heroine to me. If you were a Disney princess, who would you be? I've seen almost no Disney films, sorry! I tend to prefer wild outdoors and high culture - but I have been to Disneyland and I totally adored it. Would you like a seashell from Florida? Yes, I'd love one Or a small pebble from somewhere, or anything similar. Or a pressed flower.   What craft project do you currently have on your docket or that you want to start? And that craft goodies would be welcome? I don't pursue crafts unless you count gardening and cooking, for which I think I have all I need. But if you're seriously into either and have a favourite tool or - thingy - that you reckon I won't have and is really useful, then I'd love that, if it could be posted or arranged to be sent within the UK.   If you could have one rare bpal which one would you choose? For ages I've wanted to try Arrival at the Sabbath, but just now I also spotted The Most Magnificent Christmas Tree and I fancy that a lot too - but I guess I'm unlikely to try either. There are some others too - I've put a note in bold at the top.   Are you kinky? Oh yes Although not really as much into it as I used to be. I don't think there's any kinky thing I'm missing just now but I'm very unlikely to be offended by things.   Do you enjoy scented candles? Not really no. I used to but since I got into BPAL I prefer to keep my scent just to oils that I wear.   Thoughts about South Africa? Have you been here, would you like to go? Would you like to receive anything South African? Another great question - haven't been there, very interested, and I'd love to go I'm particularly keen on different flora around the world - and birds and animals too - and walking/climbing in new places. I'd be interested in pictures or a booklet about that. Not so interested in South African food. Do you like Sockdreams? If so, what styles would you prefer? (You can also link your wishlist.) Goodness! I'd never heard of them before. They do look kind of fun but I'm really not that fussed about socks - they're just a necessary thing to me, so no thank you. Do you need hair accessories? If so, what kind or color? Oooh, lovely question! Yes I'd love some. We have a friend who puts all sorts of mad things in her hair and it looks great - she had some birds for a photo a while ago. But also brightly coloured fluff, or - any light-hearted or clearly eccentric stuff. Not just he usual plain brown plastic because I have those. (I have longish hair, about half way between my shoulders and elbows.) What is your favorite shade of blue? Erm, I'm not really wild on blue, tbh. One that looks close to green?   Do you have any kitchen gadgets (a SodaStream, a Kuerig/Tassimo) that you want mix things for? No, we try to keep kitchen gardetry down because we have a smallish kitchen.   If you were to start learning something new (intellectual or craft or hobby), what would it be? I'm attracted to aerial silks, but I haven't really got time for it. Also I fancy going (horse)riding again, but ditto. What about candy? Do you have a sweet tooth? I do but I'm trying hard to educate myself out of it for several reasons, so I'd rather not be sent any.   Do you have an e-reader? What kind? Would you like to get ebooks? No, I don't, I'm not keen on them really. (I seem to be saying No to a lot! Sorry)   If your witch is an extremely crafty sort, and she were to send all kinds of homemade foody goodies and handmade crafty stuff - what are items you would NOT LOVE to receive. Please dont hedge on this one...some of us are serious crafters and will be making most of what we send! Gosh that's a very wide question. I prefer not to receive very sweet things. I have a feeling that edible stuff wouldn't post across the Atlantic anyway. Otherwise I tend to like most handmade things Something either very sweet (ie adorable) or very useful would be good. A notebook, decorated maybe - or a little toy mouse, even the size that goes in a match-box. (would be nice I mean, not that I would NOT want). I find it hard to say no to things I can't imagine, if you see what I mean.   Witchee dear, do you like video games? Are there any you want to play? Do you have a large library? I don't play any kind of computer or video game, no. I get hooked on things far too easily.   Do you have something you do, without fail, as a personal daily habit/ritual? Interesting question. My day at home invariably begins with making tea, but although I do love it, it's more because my husband loves it even more and it's just an "us" thing, that I do it for us if you see what I mean. One of our rituals. I very often write in a journal - not a dated book, just a nice hardback notebook with lined paper. I prefer them to be A4 size or a little smaller (I think that may be called foolscap in the US) - smaller is ok though. I invariably take a book to bed too - well unless I'm with a visiting lover or away seeing one. And not when I'm camping since I don't take a book to read then (which is a shock to the system but it's a weight issue, and good therapy to go without).   Do you wear nailpolish? No.   Name three BPAL scents you have tried, but are dying to get more of. My Mommy in a Boat; Pumpkin II 2012; Self-portrait with puffy stickers.   Do you still write real letters on nice stationary to people you like/love? Yes! Not often but I do. I prefer really nice quality but fairly simple paper, although I did love using some florentine style decorated stuff I had a few years ago.   Have you ever tried anything from Paintbox Soapworks? Which products or scents would you prefer? I have and they were nice in themselves, but I prefer to use fairly plain soap and have scent as BPAL perfumes to wear. Do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you grow? We have, by urban English standards, a big garden, and I'm pretty keen on it, although I find it hard to keep concentrated on it. I dream of one day opening it to the public, even if only in a really small way to a gardening group of friends say - or of maybe moving to a bigger property where we could do this. We grow flowers, veg, fruit, and we have several bits of lawn, and a pond. More details very happily provided if you like! We also have a big conservatory and a very tatty old greenhouse. The conservatory stays above about 5degrees; outdoors we need things to be hardy down to about -5 if they're sheltered, or -10 if not. We get wet cold, so not good for desert plants. We're on clay. I'm organic and I prefer plants that are good-doers but with the emphasis on form over flowering mass.   Do you like sample sized things? Think lipgloss, mascara, bodylotion, scrubs, mini candles, and so forth. I would find sample sizes useful for traveling, of things that I choose to take: deodorant in summer time, tooth-paste, imps of course!, lens solution, sun-block - and that's about it. I virtually never wear make-up and I seem to be just about the only woman in the western world who just doesn't "do" skincare - I rinse my face with water and that's it. I'm about as low-maintenance as you can get. I do own products like this but they just never get used.   Have you tried Fortune Cookie Soap? What products or scents would you like? Never heard of it.   Do you use solid soaps at all? If so, what kind do or don't you like? I use solid soap in a dish beside the wash-basin and beside the sink. Upstairs I keep it on a curved giant flint I found when I was out on a walk. I think I usually buy Imperial Leather - something from the supermarket anyway. I'm not bothered by what it is, so long as it's not one of the glycerine types that seem to melt away in very little time. In the bath I use shower-gel made by Original Source - but really it's just stuff to wash with, I'm not bothered what it is! I actually find it hard to use really special presents of soap and so on because it seems a shame to make them not-exist, I don't think I get enough pleasure out of using them compared to just having them. Not ideal really. But with perfume I do   Have you ever tried Cocoa Pink? If you are curious about it, what looks interesting to you? Erm, more toiletries/cosmetics - no, still not interested. Just not my kind of thing. I only like BPAL, and only really their perfumes   Do you like Lush? If so, what is your favorite product that is currently available, also, what is a product that you love but has been discontinued? As above really. I'm fine with just plain supermarket stuff. I do see the appeal of Lush in a way - I love the smell of their shops - but I'm rather a one-man-dog in terms of what I want to spend my money on, get attached to, and focus on. I just don't find bath products terribly exciting, compared to say books or climbing or gardening or cooking or mooching around the back-streets of an old city. Some post-cards of where you live, maybe?   Anyone a fan of Shiro Cosmetics? No thank you.   Are there any companies, products, or items you boycott? Yes, Microsoft.   As I am in Japan, what sort of things would you like from there? I would love some traditional paper.   Since FB and the FB Gusp group (and the BPAL Sorority which is quiet) have become gathering places...what are some of your favorite Facebook pages you like? I'll share some of mine: I don't use FB at all.   Do you read literature/culture blogs or websites of any kind? I'm thinking about anything that would help a putative witch to get a sense of what your current tastes in books, movies, games, genres, approaches to culture and literature and so forth are.   OK, I think I will edit my other blog entry into genres so that it's a bit more reader-friendly.   How do you feel about traditional picnics (namely the intimate table for two variety)? Old-fashioned basket or something more utilitarian (cooler/insulated bag)? I love them! We have a huge basket, and several pic-nic rugs. Quite often ours are for more than 2 though, since we like them with visitors.   Haus of Gloi did a Reverie update! Do any of them interest you? (Or anything else up currently?) Hmmm - I strongly suspect I would like things from there, but I'd rather not be given them because I don't want to find more stuff beyond BPAL to want to spend money on - it would go less far for goodies here Witchee, do you cook? Do you do all the cooking? Is it a chore or a pleasure? Oooh, close to my heart - and good question! I love to cook... in theory. But it is mainly done by me in our house, and I find the daily obligation a bit pressing sometimes. However being financially supported is wonderful and I know my husband both enjoys cooking when he can, and invariably appreciates my efforts with it. Most often I cook things that are served in a bowl, because I find it comforting. We both enjoy fairly healthy food and find it's pretty much essential to help manage our moods, so I try to include a good balance of things - we get a mixed veg and fruit box delivered weekly which helps a lot there. I adore to pick something from a cookery book and shop that day for it though, when I have time, which rather conflicts with using up the contents of the box! Most often I cook things I make up myself. Pasta dishes, scromlet (cross between scrambled egg and ommelette) potatoe bake things, big salads. I enjoy making scones (called biscuits in the US I think) but try to keep all sweet cooking down because otherwise I gorge on it and get in a ratty mood later and too full for better food! I enjoy cooking bigger or more elaborate meals too, and planning a succession of small courses for special guests. I might enjoy receiving special ingredients if you know of any, and if they were easy to post to me. Good food is rarely cheap though, I know. If you were put in a room with 100 random other people the same age and sex as you, from your country, in what way do you think you would be different from the average?   I'm glad this question was popular and I loved reading all the answers! I also found it very encouraging to learn what type of people are on the forum. My answer: I'm unusual in being at home (a housewife), having a slightly unusual hobby (climbing), having open relationships, and owning a stupid number of books. Other things that are not normal but hardly that rare include having no children, being pretty keen on spirituality, hardly ever wearing make-up, and being keen on very long walks. And having a pretty severe problem with procrastination. Edit: vanillabean's post below reminds me - I also don't drink alcohol, which is pretty rare in the UK; other details I didn't fancy putting on the main page: I'm very flat-chested, which used to bother me a lot but does less so now. I enjoy frugality. I associate true generosity with thoughtfulness, which may involve high expenditure, if possible and appropriate, or it may well not.   Which reading level do you prefer to read in YA or Adult? Or even both? Ooh, another interesting one. Nearly always I prefer adult. My first degree was in English lit and I tend to enjoy fairly heavy-duty stuff. I find a lot of YA stuff forumlaic and crap. But I do enjoy it sometimes (and I know that some things I enjoy are also slightly forumlaic, eg Mary Wesley - funny how I forgive my favourite formulae!) I've enjoyed Philip Pullman and to a lesser extent Laini Taylor; I also treasure memories of childhood writers like Leon Garfield, KM Peyton and Margaret Mahy. Alan Garner, Eileen Dunlop - oh so many. I think I used to find I utterly loved a book more frequently as a child than I do now. What colors/style is your kitchen decor? And do you entertain in your home? Our kitchen has pale wood surfaces, a pale floor, and mauve walls which I'm not keen on. It's also rather full! It isn't an "eat-in" kichen - too small - so we eat either in the sitting room (like a pair of slobs on the sofa) or the conservatory (more civilized, at a big pine table). Yes I love to entertain Are your ears pierced? Yes and I love ear-rings Do you like stuffies/stuffed animals/art doll type thingies? If so, any particular type you'd love to get? I adore stuffed animals I also love little toys or models of animals. I have a collection of toy mice (have been called Mouse by my parents since I was about 7). Less keen on dolls but possibly that's because I think of nasty ones, not special ones as I know some people do make and enjoy. I like dressed up mice - mice of any kind really - but for most stuffed animals I prefer them to look at least a little like a real animal - no strange colour or hugely distorted features. I used to like only Steiff animals but now many companies - and individuals - make a similar style, much more affordably (I only have one Steiff, a seal). Do you like bags? Not especially.   What's your favourite comfort food(snack or candy etc) and/or drink? I try not to go to food for comfort - I'd rather just detach from what's bothering me by just letting go. Sometimes I talk to the dog about it! I do get through a lot of tea.   What fandoms do you belong to? Well nothing in any kind of major way. I love watching Sherlock, but I'm not sure I'd want to own stuff associated with it, other than future episodes!   Question: What cheers you up? Ah, nice one. Music - I like to put it on to dance about to while washing-up. I just use the radio, whatever's in the Top 10 (I must be just about the oldest listener out there to this!) - well not whatever, I like about 1 in 5 tunes a lot, but I can put up with the others. I'm married to a keen musician so this is a cause of embarrassment! Ha. However when things go horribly wrong I listen to Mozart. I cuddle the dog. I phone my mother. I start reading a new book - a really engrossing novel, and on that's not too high-brow - the Night Circus for example - well written, beautiful, but also with a strong plot. I go for a walk. I'd go and sit in the garden. Put the kettle on [for tea]. It also cheers me up with the sun comes out and when I go climbing. Who or where would you most want to haunt? Who would you least want to be haunted by? Oh, a corker! Hm. My favourite walks. A place where I've camped wild, up by a mountain lake. Victoria Station, which I associate with the start of lovely days out in London or trips away - so that I could watch all the people coming and going, make catty remarks to my fellow ghosts, and speculate about what they were all up to. What question do you hate to answer? I find it difficult when people ask what I do. Far less so than I used to, though. I feel guilty to some extent for not making a financial contribution at home and for perhaps in some ways wasting my education and abilities, and for not also putting up with the hassle that a job entails which my husband has to. Also I dislike the image that some people have of a housewife. And I don't like being asked whether I have children. This is a less frequent question though and most people are aware it might be a sensitive subject, so that it is a little for me is less problematic, because there's usually a delicacy there.   What is the best compliment you have/could receive? "You're great at seeing the best in people." or "You have great determination" - or best of all, and a long way off, "I love your footwork!" (re climbing). "you're great fun to climb with" was also gorgeous though. I hate compliments on my appearance.   Do you like tarot cards, pendulums and rune stones etc? If so, what type? I LOVE tarot! Have several books on it too (well I have books on how to breathe and how to make a cup of tea so that's not surprising). My favourite deck is Maggie Kneen's Old English Tarot. I also have one called the Cosmic Tarot which I quite like but it was bought by mistake. I love the Shadowscapes one, and also the Druid animal oracle. I've never used a pendulum; crystals do appeal to me though. Rune stone - no idea about them. I prefer to find special stones myself.   Witchee, I know that SW isn't about what you get... but could you name one thing you would be heartbroken not to get and one thing you would be a-ok if it didn't make it in your box? (i.e. do you REALLY want perfume oil of some sort, or would you be totally heartbroken if there was no Lush in your box, etc) No, there isn't anything in particular, specifically. I think I'd be disappointed - though not heartbroken - if I didn't get even a tiny thing direct from my witch, say a post-card. I know it's going to be way easier to have stuff sent direct to me from a company here but some contact from themselves would be lovely.   Although it seems really ungrateful to say so, I think ideally I'd like a hint of their personality, rather than just something picked by me. An imp of *their* favourite GC scent, say, or a 2nd hand copy of a book they love, or a picture of their dog in an email or something (I'm a bit vague about how contact works) - that kind of thing. I feel a bit wary of posting my Amazon list for that reason, but I did it because someone might otherwise feel they were being asked to magic up some Thing, when they might be stressed or short of time.   Would you like something from Empire Edibles? I bet it's lovely stuff, and I'd gobble it up very happily if it was sent to me, but ideally I'd prefer to avoid sweet stuff. I put huge efforts into losing weight. (note - heavier again this morning. please please no sweet or fatty food)   Is there a literary character you identify with? Even if it's not spot-on, just someone you found yourself having that "I identify with this" feeling? Oooh, interesting. Nobody that I can remember feeling really strongly about, but when I read Jane Eyre, the way she grew in depth and understanding and character made me feel that she was trying to do the same thing that I do. I get little hints of things from lots of characters but not enough to remember them specifically now.     What are the three books you most want to read right now, and which you don't already have? Ah, now this is right up my ally I'd like: The Rough Guide to Mindfulness; Days of Blood and Starlight; and a book called Women Climbing. What would you like from the most recent BPAL update? What are you planning on buying for yourself and what would you like to try? I'm afraid I caved and ordered already, sorry!   Opinions on table top games, from cards and board games, to dice and rpgs. What do you like? What don't you like? Favorites? Any classics you like? Do you collect any? I love Articulate but it needs a lot of people and I'm very competitive in it! I also love Carcassonne, for quieter times, and Dominion. We have Settlers of Catane but we've not got really into it yet. We enjoy games - particularly in the winter. I think that since they are fairly expensive, there are probably other things I would like more, unless you particularly want to share a favourite (which would be great). What style is your sense of humour? I enjoy Black Books, Monty Python, character-based humour, and slightly Zen-type surrealism - a detached, laid-back, gently smiling attitude to life. I'm not keen on slapstick, humour that just depends on saying rude words (though the rudeness won't offend me), and long series of puns. I don't know if you have Mitchell and Webb in the US - or where you are, if you're not here. I also like Blackadder. I like shared jokes and silly words.   Is there anything from Australia you would like? eg: snacks (yes, you can ask for Tim Tams!), books, magazines, memorabilia? Somebody mentioned native spices - I'd love those. Pictures or sustainable souvenirs of the local plants. Music, maybe? I like world music, classical, rock, prog, some dance and rap if it's intelligent - not country or garage. I also enjoy broad, un PC Aussie humour What is your favourite object, that you own, ignoring sentimental reasons for attachment? So I guess something you find beautiful, or fun, or incredibly useful. For me it's a huge wrought-iron candelabra, made in the shape of a tree, which I confess I actually gave to my husband. Ahem! Tough call between that and a book of photographs by Edwin Smith.   Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? Yes, if you like - http://www.needlesports.com/Catalogue/Gift-Vouchers How big is too big...for something to hang on your walls? If I'm painting you a pretty picture, are there maximum dimensions that you have/prefer? I have a feeling a painting would be horrendously expensive to post. And yes we would find anything bigger than about 2 feet by 1 and a half hard to hang. Put your mp3 player/online music/itunes/etc on random and list the next 10 songs here: I haven't so far got into music in forms other than CD (and tapes, gigs, etc!). My favourite band is Deep Purple (we have all their albums including the newest one); I also love Mozart, Elgar, Marillion, Byrd, Beethoven, Brand X, Genesis (mainly early stuff), the Kinks, and Billy Joel (that list came from picking 10 who first came to mind, but it gives you an idea). I have a feeling I will struggle with keeping my identity secret from my witchee. If you happen to find out who yours is, how much would it bother you? If you say a lot, I will try really, really hard! But for example, it wouldn't bother me at all. (I think I'd find it really hard if my witch wanted to be secret for ever though! - less so with the witchee) Do you use waxmelts or tarts? If so, which ones do you prefer? I've never tried them.   Do you enjoy drinking hot chocolate, and would you like stuff to make it with, or to add to it? I love real cocoa, in the winter, unsweetened. But I like it so much just as it is (I like Green & Blacks') that I'm not sure about adding anything - certainly not anything sweet. If you know of another hot drink that's cocoay but not sugary, I might well be interested (I mean not sweetened - it's the rich pure flavour I like, rather than a calorie issue.) Have you ever tried Spoonfudge? Would you enjoy it if your Witch would send you some? No thank you. I am compulsively addicted to sugar and I over-eat it so badly I get ill .   What's your opinion on Moonalisa? Any favorites or products you'd like to try? What an absolutely gorgeous website! But I think I like the graphics and the feeling more than I would the products. Are there any BPALs that you loved the idea of, the imagery - whether artwork or description - but which didn't work out for you? (I'm asking because if they did, you might mention them elsewhere, but if not, the imagery might be helpful)   For me, it would be Crossroads, since I'm quite pagan-minded and the crossings of paths on walks often feel highly-charged to me. Also London - I love rose, and old metal, and the idea of a time-warp back to a London I'm quite glad I don't really live in. Also The Witch's Garden, since I adore gardens and as well as paganism.   Do you want to receive one big package or a bunch of small ones? Digital stuff all at the end when the box should arrive or as we go? I'd be happy with whichever works best for my witch. Given that they might be abroad, some thought about postage costs could be wise. Oddly enough small packets can sometimes be cheaper - I think there's a limit over which they charge a shocking amount. PLEASE look into this - or I will maybe and post it here - because I'd hate you to be a nasty shock. Please also feel free to get stuff sent within the UK, or to send very small light things. Or simply very little that you've dreamt up - v much a thought that counts thing Important: re digital stuff, this might be tricky. I run an old computer, and on Linux. If you send something in a proprietary formula it's quite likely I won't be able to open or use it. I can open emails, and links to things that don't run video will be fine - ecards and so on. I'm probably better off with CDs than emusic, and I don't use an e-reader for books. I can't run video on my computer, and currently I have no speakers connected to it. This is all an area I should maybe address, but I have limited income and my priority is things for climbing, travel to get to it - and BPAL   Is there someone on the forums (within SW or not) who knows you really well and might be able to help with stalking? Yes, ReallyZeb.   Also, STARBUCKS, Yay or Nay? Anything you particularly like? Not really. I don't get on terribly well with coffee and I'd rather avoid sugar/excessive fat.   Is there a Quote that resonates with you, or that you particularly like a lot. Would this be something you would like artwork made of for your walls or a shirt/bag/scarf? Yes, two: "Here, now, this" and "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass: it's about learning to dance in the rain." That 2nd one might be so naff to you that you can't bear to work with it though! I love both of these, they mean a huge amount to me, and I'd particularly like to be able to wear either of them.   When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? Hmm. I get a lot of really low moods. Just lately I've been reading about the ego and detachment and I think I'd try that; to help, maybe a walk, some yoga - definitely climbing if possible. I might try losing myself in a book with a strong plot. Putting music on always helps but if I'm really low it doesn't occur to me. Same with gardening - helps but needs a bit of oomph to get me out there. I also bleat at anyone who will listen about it (my husband mainly!). The low moods are less frequent if I eat carefully and take exercise. Sometimes I find careful thought helps - I imagine advising a friend with the same problem and that can bring some useful insight. Would you like if your witch sent a regional pop/soda? If so, what type (Root beer, creme soda, cola, citrus-flavored, chocolate-flavored, etc...)? Hm. I think these days, no, because of the sugar (and I'd rather avoid artificial sweeteners). Also it would be massively expensive to post from abroad.   About Etsy - until about a week ago I'd only ever looked very briefly at it, and loved what I'd seen. But since then I've spent quite a long time trying to put together a wish-list, and failed. There are some things I like there but none enough to say, "yes get me one of those please". It feels like lots of pretty shop windows, full of things I can point to and ooh over, but don't really want to buy. You might well find something there that I'd love, but there's just so much stuff, and I try to keep my time on the net down because I prefer other activities. Werewolves or Vampires? No thank you. I like natural things more - dogs and cats, deer, trees - all that. Contact and e-cards An email would be lovely; e-cards are also very sweet but if they're animated, they probably won't even open for me Anything in the post would be wonderful. If you like I will promise not to scrutinise the outside for clues to your location! Or you might prefer to send one thing at the end. But I do love things by post. T-shirts, crystals, magnets I love T-shirts and virtually live in them. I much prefer the girly-shaped ones; size small or maybe even xs, depends on the company. If they have a tight band around the arm then probably only small since my arms are fairly toned and will get more so. I have a lot of really plain t-shirts so something fun, pretty, funny - anything like that - would be nice. Crystals - beautiful things. I don't own any but would like them. Magnets - we haven't got anywhere to put them as magnets (our fridge is very small and has a wooden front) but if it's funny or sweet it might still be nice; I might prefer say a drinks coaster though since to be able to use something is nice.   f you knit/crochet, what sizes of needles do you need? I don't. (used to love knitting - very badly - when a little kid and maybe one day I'll get into it again, but just now I prefer to concentrate on my existing interests)   What styles of artwork do you like? I love fairly naturalistic pictures of dogs, horses, gardens and plants, mountains, rivers (not sugary though). I adore wood-cuts and engravings. I like black and white photographs - modern and old - and also strongly-composed colour photograaphs. Photographs of water - streams, waterfalls, rivers, stormy seas. And pictures to do with climbing! If you cook, would you be interested in-hand made spice mixes/rubs? Maybe? If it's something special to you, certainly yes. Otherwise I tend to season things pretty carefully myself, I don't use ready-made mixes. Would you like mexican vanilla or silver rings/necklaces? Is this vanilla from mexico, or a special term I don't know, or aimed at someone in particular (well I know it's the latter but - ). I like good real vanilla I like silver too. A necklace would be better for me than a ring. What are the three BPALs you would most like to receive - one GC, one not-hard to find LE, and one HTF LE from your dreams? GC - Knave of Hearts. LE - not sure what is hard to find. I'd love Arrival at the Sabbath; a bottle of Boo or Sugar Skull would be lovely, and since they come out often maybe not that hard? But they're popular so maybe people hang onto them. I love Nadie Se Conoce which had very mixed reviews, so maybe that would be easier - but maybe people just got decants, I don't know. What is your favorite color? Green. What is your favorite season? Oh, I couldn't say. I love snow and Christmas in winter; I love the excitement and hard work in the garden in spring; the colour and warmth in summer, and my birthday and fireworks and halloween in Autumn If you could live anywhere in the world and money was no object, where would it be? I have a lot of ties and things I love where I am. But other places that appeal would be somewhere more rural in Sussex; the Lakes for the prettiness and to climb; Italy for the style. London in the centre for a few months, to enjoy the buzz. Corsica, for the people and the new climbing! - fresh new routes, in the middle of nowhere, eating Corsican food.   Do you have any long trips coming up? If so, could you use things to occupy yourself? No, only short trips.   I'm going to Jungle Jim's next week (it's basically a massive international food gasm in Ohio, look it up); would anything interest you? Hm. No I don't think so.   Name three things that you could use, but might not necessarily think to get for yourself? I'd like some interesting T-shirts. I tend to were plain ones and I'd rather they were more fun. I'd like some warm socks with slight soles on - or plastic little round bits - that I can wear to curl up in in winter. And a mug with something fun on it?   Does anything from the TP Etsy update interest you? No thank you - and it tends to cost a fortune to ship TP stuff to the UK. I just found out Oreo is launching ones with watermelon flavor in the USA only. Is it something you would enjoy? It would, - maybe one or two in a parcel? Not sure if they can be sent that way though. So maybe not. What do you love about summer (even if it’s your least-favorite season)? Ooh, good question. I love warm air on my skin. Being able to wear far fewer clothes - less hassle, less to think about, quite a liberating feeling. I love the long daylight. I think people tend to be happier in the summer. The feeling of buzz about the time from about Wimbledon to the Proms - it seems to be one thing after another in England. I love strawberries and cream, cucumbers, big straw hats, floaty skirts, a hammock in the garden, swallows overhead in the evening. Pippa (our dog) lying dozing on the grass. P being happy to stay out in the garden with me - and able to leave the door open so she can come and go. Barbecues in the evening. Glorious green leaves on the trees, and firm dry ground under foot, so P doesn't get filthy on walks. Walking in sandals. Being able to climb on warm rock.   For those of you who are big readers: Are there any books that just came out (like within the last two months) or are about to come out during this round that you're really looking forward to? I fancy Kate Atkinson's new one. Also the 2nd installment of Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Tattoos I have none. I sometimes (often) like them on others, but I'm not currently drawn to getting any myself. TAL update on etsy. Is there anything you want/need? I find that the magical power of scents tends to come for me from association generated in my own life and mind rather than in their formulation, so no thank you. Brown and Haley Hadn't heard of them - ah, sweets. No thank you. Oberto Jerky Much more interesting - so yes, if this happens to be convenient for you, dear witch, and you fancy sending some, I'd like that. But not if you prefer other ideas. How do you feel about home-canned goods? Oh wow, colour me impressed! They'd cost a fortune to post - from anywhere, I suspect, never mind abroad - but at the least I'd love to talk to you about how you do it! Lovely idea.   Do you like BPTP clothing? I fancy their T-shirts - a lot. Never owned any so far. The yoga pants - well they look nice, and I bet I'd wear them, but I know that wide-legged stuff doesn't actually work for me for yoga - they fall down your legs during inversions and flap about during sun salutations - right pain. Nice for general wear though. Please avoid imagery with skulls - I'm squeamish about them.   What size do you wear of: T-shirts - probably xs Baby-doll - XS or S? Not sure. I'm an old-fahioned 10 in the UK, which given that sizes are all getting bigger nowadays makes me about an 8. Yoga-pants - say s.   What else do you love from the Trading Post site, and need to have? There are many things I'd be happy to have but I doubt I'd really use much.   Is there a particular movie genre that you like (Fantasy? Drama? Romantic Comedy? Musicals? TV-Series, etc), and what format would you prefer: DVD, Blu-Ray, or something in the cloud (like Amazon, iTunes, Flixster, etc)? I tend to like films about the past, with a rather literary bent - Orlando, The Village, Howards End. I have also enjoyed Inception and V for Vendetta. DVD please, and which will play here - ie Europe.

Summer 2013 Switch Witch

Wishlists: ScentBase | Etsy | Sockdreams | Amazon Questions 1. Are you into Dr. Who? I'm sorry, but I've never understood the Dr. Who hype. 2. How much do you like lipbalm? Flavored or unflavored? What are your favorite brands and flavors? I'm a complete addict! I'm a sucker for flavored lipbalms, and the brands I already love are definitely Hurraw and Haus of Gloi. I had a maple flavored one which I liked a lot, but am mostly all over foody flavors. Oh, and I've always wanted to try the EOS ones. I dislike balms in pots, though. 3. Do you like and wear lipgloss? If yes, what colours? Absolutely! My favorite ones I have are from MAC and Estee Lauder, and they are in lots of variations, like pink shades, berry, transparent with sparkle, you name it. I can never have enough though, and the only one I wouldn't want is a bright red lipgloss. 4. For those of you whose wishlists contain only BPALs, are there any other perfume companies you like or would like to try out? I solely use BPAL. The only thing I may try one day is getting a custom blend from Haus of Gloi. 5. If you've never had anything from Adagio teas, would you be open to trying them? I've heard of them through the BPAL Facebook group, but never had the opportunity to try any. 6. What about coffee? Would you like to get coffee send to you? Whole bean or ground? What are some varieties and/or flavors you enjoy? Yes I'd love some good instant coffee, I haven't been able to find that yet. I like rich, bold coffee, but also enjoy flavored ones. 7. Who is your favourite female of all time? Historical, literary, ANYTHING, and why? Wow, good question! I cannot name one, but I can do a few. Anaïs Nin (just Google her), my mother and my grandmother for what they've done for me. 8. If you were a Disney princess who would you be? Snow White, or Belle.. have lots in common with them, but most with Snow White. 9. Would you like a seashell from Florida? Absolutely! I love things like that. As long as it's not an endangered species.. hehe. 10. What craft project do you currently have on your docket or that you want to start? And that craft goodies would be welcome? I really would like to braid my own whips, and I want to get good at baking and decorating cupcakes. Goodies related to that are more than welcome.   11. If you could have one rare BPAL which one would you choose? Marshmallow Poof! 12. Are you kinky? Very! I won't go into details unless you ask for it, Witch, since I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. But yes, I enjoy multiple aspects of BDSM, and even made it my business. No, that does not mean I'm a professional dominatrix, but I help other people exploring their kinky side. 13. Do you enjoy scented candles? Certain sizes that you like? What kind of scents or brands? I'm a sucker for them, and like every size. The most fantastic candle of all times was the Pumpkin Cookies one from BPTP. I searched everywhere for it, and swapped lots of rare things. I was heartbroken when it burnt up, and plan on begging Puddin to make them again. I also enjoy Yankee Candle, but I'd like any brands. As for scents, foodie, fruity of spicy please. 14. Thoughts about South Africa? Have you been here, would you like to go? Would you like to receive anything South African? I moved to South Africa from the Netherlands at the 9th of January this year, to be with my love. I think the country is beautiful, for what I've seen of it, but seeing the poverty in some places makes me very sad. And of course I'd like to receive something South African, but it was my own question so.. he. 15. What about Sockdreams? I never had the opportunity to try anything from them, but have a wishlist here. 16. Do you need hair accessories? If so, what kind or color? Always welcomed, especially scrunchies, or a nice comfortable headband. And I've always wanted to try chopsticks in my hair. As for colors, black or purple would be good. 17. What is your favorite shade of blue? Indigo, midnight blue, ultramarine. 18. Do you have any kitchen gadgets (a SodaStream, a Kuerig/Tassimo) that you want mix things for? Nope, don't have any. 19. If you were to start learning something new (intellectual or craft or hobby), what would it be? There are many things I'd like to start. I've thought of coloring mandala's for relaxation, picking up Pergamano again (I had a full kit when I was younger, loved it but sold it all, so sad) or trying some knitting. And one of my dreams is to learn to play the violin one day. 20. What about candy? Do you have a sweet tooth? What a question! Yes I love candy and sweet stuff and I'm known for having a sweet tooth, especially for chocolate.   21. Do you have an e-reader? What kind? Would you like to get ebooks? Yes, I have a Kindle Fire 7" (not the HD one), and would love eBooks! Especially on making cupcakes or cocktails.. 22. If your witch is an extremely crafty sort, and she were to send all kinds of homemade foody goodies and handmade crafty stuff - what are items you would NOT LOVE to receive. Please dont hedge on this one...some of us are serious crafters and will be making most of what we send! I LOVE handmade things. It is really hard to think of something I would not want, except for what is mentioned in the rest of the questions. 23. Witchee dear, do you like video games? Are there any you want to play? Do you have a large library? Yes, every now and again. We might even buy a Playstation or Xbox one day. For now we play on the laptop (Plants Vs Zombies and Worms World Party). 24. Do you have something you do, without fail, as a personal daily habit/ritual? Eating oranges and drinking rooibos tea. 25. Do you wear nailpolish? What colors do you tend to go for? What are your favorite brands? Are you open to trying indie brands? I love nailpolish but don't wear it because I suck at applying, but I want to get better at it because it looks so pretty. For winter colors, I'd enjoy purple or deep blue. Oh and I think flake nailpolishes are the most amazing thing ever. I don't have favorite brands, but would be very open to indie brands. 26. Name three BPAL scents you have tried, but are dying to get more of. Very aged Snake Oil (the one I tried was 2006), Marshmallow Poof and Snowblind. 27. Do you still write real letters on nice stationary to people you like/love? Can't tell you how excited I am about this question. My grandparents are still in the Netherlands and they don't use a laptop or anything, so the only way we can communicate is by sending letters/cards or when my dad visits them and brings his laptop. So nice stationary would be AWESOME! I'll see if I can add anything to my Etsy wishlist. 28. Have you tried anything from Paintbox Soapworks? Which products and scents would you prefer? I've never tried anything from them, and I've added some stuff to my Etsy wishlist. 29. Do you like sample sized things? Think lipgloss, mascara, bodylotion, scrubs, mini candles, and so forth. Mini's are the cutest! When I was still on make-up alley, I used to hunt down deluxe sample sizes of major brands (the kind you get as a GWP). I also really enjoy other sample sized things, since they're perfect for travel and to try new things out. 30. Do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you grow? I have a small front and back garden, but it wasn't really put the way it is by me, so I want to make it more personal. I'd love to sow herbs (which I'd like to look into using it for medical and beauty purposes). 31. Have you tried Fortune Cookie Soap? What products or scents would you like? I've never tried, but would love to. The Mist Me, Personal Space, Don't Be Jelly, Lip Scrub, Lip Balm, Lip Tint, Shampoo Bar, Conditioner Bar and Sea Salt Spritz are products I'd like to try. Scents like Body Shot, Cupcake, Big Red, A Nod to the Hippies, Blueberry Jackflaps, Cabaret, Caramel Apple and Cinnamon Rolled would really do it for me, and I meant to go through all the scents but there are just too much. But now you have an idea. 32. Do you use solid soaps at all? If so, what kind do or don't you like? Yes, I do. Most soaps I find too drying, though, but had a soap by Haunt that was wonderfully creamy. 33. Have you ever tried Cocoa Pink? If you are curious about it, what looks interesting to you? Yes, I've tried Cocoa Pink, but that was a long while ago and the owner didn't do a good job, but I believe it all changed now so I wouldn't mind trying it again. I'd be interested in the linen sprays, scrubs, conditioners, shampoo and styling products. Generally, I like foody, spicy or fruity scents. 34. Do you like Lush? If so, what is your favorite product that is currently available, also, what is a product that you love but has been discontinued? I was really addicted to Lush, once, even went mysteryshopping for them. But then I boycotted buying their products, but that was a while ago. And now.. I miss some of their products. I'd love to get my hands on Rub Rub Rub, for example, or Sweetie Pie jelly, Ocean Salt, BIG, Sea Spray, Popcorn, You Snap the Whip.. but that's about it. Oh, and I really miss that discontinued jelly with clouds.. what was it called? 35. Do witches prefer the answers posted here, but a more cherry-picked number of questions answered, or a more exhaustive list posted in the blog, which means posting here much less? I really prefer all answers together on the blog. Makes life so much easier! 36. Anyone a fan of Shiro Cosmetics? Any particular products? Eye shadow pigments in general? Don't know it, but had a look at their website, and nothing really jumped at me. I've heard amazing things about Fyrinnae, though.. 37. Are there any companies, products, or items you boycott? Products where animals have suffered for. 38. As I am in Japan, what sort of things would you like from there? I would go completely nuts over Japanese sheet masks! 39. Since FB and the FB Gusp group (and the BPAL Sorority which is quiet) have become gathering places...what are some of your favorite Facebook pages you like? I really like We Heart This, Marie Forleo, Lit Cosmetics and Lisa Eldrigde. 40. Do you read literature/culture blogs or websites of any kind? I'm thinking about anything that would help a putative witch to get a sense of what your current tastes in books, movies, games, genres, approaches to culture and literature and so forth are. Nopes, not really I'm afraid.   41. How do you feel about traditional picnics (namely the intimate table for two variety)? Old-fashioned basket or something more utilitarian (cooler/insulated bag)? I've always wanted to do a nice picnic since I arrived here in South Africa, but haven't gotten to it yet. Anything that can be used with a picnic would be very much appreciated. 42. If you were put in a room with 100 random other people the same age and sex as you, from your country, in what way do you think you would be different from the average? I think I'm way more open minded, and have more life experience than others of the same age and sex. And I already have an online business going.. and decided to move to the other side of the planet.. My lover is almost double my age.. that's about it. 43. Haus of Gloi did a Reverie update! Do any of them interest you? (Or anything else up currently?) Haus of Gloi is one of my favorite companies ever! I'd like the White Raspberry or White Blueberry soaps from the reverie (I already have the Raspberry in a whipped soap and it's divine). You can always make me happy with their lipbalms, scrubs or whipped soaps, and I'm fond of their Moon Dog scent. I'd like to try Vice, Satyr or Haus Amber. And something I'd love to do someday is get a custom scent from Haus of Gloi. It's the only exception I'd make on the only wear BPAL rule. 44. Witchee, do you cook? Do you do all the cooking? Is it a chore or a pleasure? Yes I cook, mostly it's a chore, but sometimes a pleasure (when I make pancakes or Indian curry, for example). I much rather bake. 45. Which reading level do you prefer to read in YA or Adult? Or even both? Adult. 46. Put your mp3 player/online music/itunes/etc on random and list the next 10 songs here. Okay, I do not have an MP3 player, don't listed to music online.. I only have a folder on my laptop with a couple of albums in, so there's not much to randomize. 47. What is your favourite object, that you own, ignoring sentimental reasons for attachment? So I guess something you find beautiful, or fun, or incredibly useful. Oh, hard one! I probably have to name three: my laptop, my BPAL collection, and my collar. 48. How big is too big...for something to hang on your walls? If I'm painting you a pretty picture, are there maximum dimensions that you have/prefer? As long as it's not more than a couple of square meters it should be fine. 49. Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? Yay! Does BPAL/BPTP actually have giftcards? Otherwise, for Haus of Gloi, Etsy, Victoria's Secret.. 50. Is there anything from Australia you would like? eg: snacks (yes, you can ask for Tim Tams!), books, magazines, memorabilia? Semi-precious stones, local candy.   51. Do you have any problems with swearing or particularly off-color humor? Swearing no problem, but I don't like jokes based on discrimination. 52. What style is your sense of humour? Big Bang Theory, Fawlty Towers, Grav3yardgirl. 53. Opinions on table top games, from cards and board games, to dice and rpgs. What do you like? What don't you like? Favorites? Any classics you like? Do you collect any? I'd love more 'non-screen-involving' games to play with my lover and friends! We are in desperate need of a deck of cards, or Yahtzee, but we don't collect. 54. What would you like from the most recent BPAL update? What are you planning on buying for yourself and what would you like to try? I'm not buying anything for myself, but would like trying Sweet Pea, Epibulia or Tympanidium. 55. Is there a literary character you identify with? Even if it's not spot-on, just someone you found yourself having that "I identify with this" feeling? Nothing comes to mind at the moment. 56. What are the three books you most want to read right now, and which you don't already have? S&M 101 by Jay Wiseman, Sleeping Beauty trilogy by Anne Rice, a book on baking. 57. Would you like something from Empire Edibles? Very much! I added some things to my Etsy wishlist. 58. Is there anything small you try to collect from everywhere you visit? Not really. 59. Witchee, I know that SW isn't about what you get... but could you name one thing you would be heartbroken not to get and one thing you would be a-ok if it didn't make it in your box? (i.e. do you REALLY want perfume oil of some sort, or would you be totally heartbroken if there was no Lush in your box, etc). There is nothing that will break my heart, but instead I'll list three things here that I would love you forever for if it would be in the box.. which doesn't mean you could totally sweep my off my feet with something else though.. but here they are: something related to baking, Asian sheet masks or scented candles. 60. Do you like tarot cards, pendulums and rune stones etc? If so, what type? I wouldn't use them. 61. What fandoms do you belong to? None. 62. What cheers you up? My lover, wearing a favorite scent, fresh juice, Snowy, chocolate, making a sale online. 63. Who or where would you most want to haunt? Who would you least want to be haunted by? I really don't know. 64. What question do you hate to answer? None. 65. What is the best compliment you have/could receive? My lover who tells me how beautiful I look, even with my hair in a mess, last day's make-up on and puffy eyes. 66. Would you like anything from an European country? Any particular food or goodies, magazines, books, whatever would be available to your witch in his/her country. SkinTwo magazine (UK), candy from all over the place. 67. Do you like bags? If so, what type (rucksack, clutch, shopping bag) colour and would you like/need a new one? I have been without a bag for half a year now and desperately need one. Not a rucksack though, a clutch would be loved but what I most need is more of a bit more spacious shoulder bag. I'd like it to be white but am afraid that it will get dirty, so red, black, burnt orange would be great. Or any jewel tones, really. 68. What's your favourite comfort food (snack or candy etc) and/or drink? Chocolate, malva pudding, tea, fresh juice, spicy food. 69. Would you be interested in someone writing out for you a favourite recipe, or finding or devising one which they think you'd like? If so, please provide your favourite ingredients, info on how you like to cook/store and use food, and any intolerances - unless all of these are in your questionnaire, or you don't like the idea. (I'm not saying I'd definitely do this, unless someone is keen, and it wouldn't be the only gift). I guess for other witches this might include something like a knitting pattern - not my thing but would you like that? Or indeed would you like a picture created for you (if so what kind) or a story written? (sorry if this feels a bit Spanish Inquisition!) A recipe sounds nice, especially when it's baking or cocktail related. Favorite ingredients are hard to say, but I think you can get a good impression by some other questions what I like. A story or a picture sounds lovely, too. 70. If you knew you were going to live comfortably for say 800 years, what profession, calling or project might you pursue with some of your extra years, which you imagine you may not do in the life that you have? I'd try and help build towns/schools up in third world countries.   71. Is there any thing - an object, a donation on your behalf, some research done for you, whatever - that your witch could do about this that you would like? And if you can't think of a present, would you rather she/he (I!) didn't either and confined themselves to things you are already involved in? I've been thinking that it would be nice to adopt a piece of rainforest.. 72. What colors/style is your kitchen decor? And do you entertain in your home? No style really, since it's not a kitchen we placed when we moved here. But yes, some people come over sometimes. 73. Are your ears pierced? Yes. 74. Do you like stuffies/stuffed animals/art doll type thingies? If so, any particular type you'd love to get? I do like stuffed animals but am quite particular about them. But if you'd find something like the giant stuffed kiwi pillow on my Etsy wishlist, but far less expensive, or a different cute fruit.. I'd be all over it. 75. Switch Witch is, of course, all about you.....but if your Witch was so inclined, are there wee little ones in your home that will get jealous and are just too young to understand why you won't share the love, who maybe need a touch of Witchee love all their own, to distract them while you hide all your lovelies?!? Nope. 76. Do you use waxmelts or tarts? If so, which ones do you prefer? I used to burn them and love it, especially Country Home Scents ones. Realistic bakery scents all the way. I don't own a burner anymore though.. 77. Do you enjoy drinking hot chocolate, and would you like stuff to make it with, or to add to it? Yes please! Especially love those sticks with the cubes and you put it in hot milk.. hmmm. 78. Is there someone on the forums (within SW or not) who knows you really well and might be able to help with stalking? Holborne! She was my Witch last year, and we turned into friends. 79. If you happen to find out who yours is, how much would it bother you? Not much! I'm fine with whenever I find it out. 80. Have you ever tried Spoonfudge? Would you enjoy it if your Witch would send you some? Which of the flavors would you like? I love Spoonfudge, and Cookies & Cream is my favorite!   81. What's your opinion on Moonalisa? Any favorites or products you'd like to try? It's so hard to get your hands on! But I have a scrub and it's the best one I've ever had.. so more Moona would be welcomed. 82. Are there any BPALs that you loved the idea of, the imagery - whether artwork or description - but which didn't work out for you? (I'm asking because if they did, you might mention them elsewhere, but if not, the imagery might be helpful) Yes, the butterflies! I love everything with butterflies. 83. Is there a Quote that resonates with you, or that you particularly like a lot. Would this be something you would like artwork made of for your walls or a shirt/bag/scarf? Yes! "Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly...". I have it on a huge mug my last Witch sent me, and I love it to pieces. And I'd love artwork or a bag or anything! I also like many quotes by Jim Rohn. 84. STARBUCKS, Yay or Nay? Anything you particularly like? YAAAAAAAY! I miss Starbucks SO much since I moved to South Africa! I don't know if they also have instant coffees, but good ones. If so I'd be all over them. 85. Ninjas or Pirates? Neither, really. 86. Werewolves or Vampires? Vampires! 87. Zombie or Cthulhu? Cthulhu! 88. Do you want to receive one big package or a bunch of small ones? Digital stuff all at the end when the box should arrive or as we go? I'd be fine with anything, really, but I would most enjoy something small during the round and a bigger one at the end. 89. Do you have any symbols or totems that are meaningful to you? Yes! Butterflies (see the quote question). I also have a small insect finger puppet from when I was a kid, and a slice of agate my father gifted me around the same age. Both items are two of the few 'non functional things' I took with me when I moved to South Africa. 90. When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? Cuddle a lot, drink copious amounts of tea, bake something, watch a cozy movie.   91. Would you like if your witch sent a regional pop/soda? If so, what type (Root beer, creme soda, cola, citrus-flavored, chocolate-flavored, etc...)? Now I notice I completely forgot to mention this before, but I do not enjoy any fizzy drinks. Sorry. 92. Do you welcome knitted items? If so, what would you like most? (amigurumi, washcloth, socks, shawl, shawlette, scarf, wrist warmers, hat, etc.) Do you have any favorite fibers? How about any fiber allergies? Favorite color for knitted items? VERY! I would really like a hat (maybe a slouchy beanie). No favorite fibers I can think of, but also don't have allergies. If it would be a slouchy, black, deep grey, white or jewel tones would be nice. 93. What are the three BPALs you would most like to receive - one GC, one not-hard to find LE, and one HTF LE from your dreams? Bliss, Boomslang and Marshmallow Poof. 94. If you knit/crochet, what sizes of needles do you need? I don't knit, might start knitting one day, but know nothing about needles. 95. What styles of artwork do you like? Gustav Klimt, Salvador Dali, M.C. Escher. 96. If you cook, would you be interested in-hand made spice mixes/rubs? Absolutely! 97. Would you like mexican vanilla or silver rings/necklaces? Had to Google Mexican vanilla, but it sounds awesome! 98. The Conjure Oils update (http://conjureoils.com/emporium.htm) looks absolutely fabulous...I didn't know she made soaps and candles and whanot. Is there anything from the Oddment Emporium you would like? The scent Voluptuary sounds really yummy to me. I'd either like it in a Wicked Whip or Seductive Spray. 99. What is your favorite color? Of all time? Purple. But I also really like other jewel tones. 100. What is your favorite season? I think every season has it's charm.   101. If you could live anywhere in the world and money was no object, where would it be? Here in South Africa, close to a forest and waterfall. 102. Do you have any long trips coming up? If so, could you use things to occupy yourself? Nothing planned. 103. I'm going to Jungle Jim's next week (it's basically a massive international food gasm in Ohio, look it up); would anything interest you? You know what the problem is with me an foreign food? I completely love it, but I never am able to name anything. I mean, I know I'd swoon over strange hot sauces, candy, cookies, spices.. I had a look at the website and would be very interested in hot sauces in the 'wild' category. Ooooh they say they have over 70 jelly bean flavors! *drools* 104. Name three things that you could use, but might not necessarily think to get for yourself? Things for baking, comfortable headbands, a jewelery tree. 105. Does anything from the TP Etsy update interest you? Nope. 106. I just found out Oreo is launching ones with watermelon flavor in the USA only. Is it something you would enjoy? Very curious to try! 107. If you don't consider yourself in a "fandom" (and I get that ... I don't really go overboard on my liking of any TV show/Movie/etc), are there any TV shows or Movies that you really like and/or watch regularly or any actors/actresses you wouldn't leave standing in the rain (unless you like looking at them sopping wet, in which case ... well, nevermind)? I like Julia Roberts, Jack Nicholson, Johnny Depp.. 108. So, dear witchee, would you like some Tw*twaffle soap or scent or lotion? I'd like the hot process soap. 109. Has anyone asked about tattoos? Do you love them? Hate them? Have any? Want any? I think they can be nice depending on design, place and person. My love has two, I don't have any but might get one someday.. or not. 110. I live near the Brown and Haley outlet - makers of Almond Roca and Mountain Bars - would you want anything from the outlet? For nut-haters, they have nutless Roca For the no-sugar folks they have sugar-free as well. Never had it, but sounds yummy.   111. I also have an Oberto jerky outlet local to me - any wants there? Would love jerky, but I'm not 100% sure whether it's allowed to cross the border here. 112. How do you feel about home-canned goods? Like jam or something? YES please! 113. Do you like BPTP clothing? Some of it. I have a Strawberry Moon, Cold Moon and Weeping Branches Moon tee, so you know my style a bit. I only like the babydoll or burn-out tees though, and wear a M in them. I would LOVE yoga pants but jeans with 34" inseam are even too short for me. Oh and I have2 the purple and orange socks, had the pink ones too but they went missing. 114. Also, what is your favorite lunacy (or non-lunacy) T-shirt that you don't already own? I find the Skelly one very cute for lounge wear. 115. What else do you love from the Trading Post site, and need to have? Please have a look at my Scentbase wishlist for those. But I'd swoon over candles in particular. 116. Is there a particular movie genre that you like and what format would you prefer? Fantasy, animated (like Despicable Be, Finding Nemo, that kind of stuff), romantic comedies. Either DVD or Amazon would work for me. 117. Following up on the Adagio question from earlier, what are you top five wishes, for teas and blends? I don't have a top 5, but added some to my new Amazon wishlist. Other than these, a sampler would always be welcomed, as I might be too 'scared' to get whole bags of some flavors but would like to give them a go. 118. Do you have anything that you do ritually, every summer? I love my sorbet icecream (especially raspberry), but it's not a ritual. And my summers have changed drastically as they are way different here in South Africa to the ones in the Netherlands. 119. What are your top five wishes from ThinkGeek? There's nothing I really want from there. 120. Seen anything lately that makes you go OH HOLY FUCK THAT'S AWESOME!? A couple of things. A kiwi pillow (the one I have on my Etsy), a lady who does a Superhero Sex Shop Tour (which I donated to), the view from Signal Hill near Cape Town, Snowblind from the Post, the fresh strawberry juice at the mall, the idea of Beth doing a project on Kickstarter.   121. Do you like audiobooks? If so, do you have/would you like to try Audible? I have one by Jim Rohn that I really like (the Day that Turns your Live Around), would listen to more, but not dying for it or anything. 122. Chocolate: Love? Hate? Allergic? If love, what are your faves? LOVE! I love white, milk and dark chocolate, don't like flower flavors or weird ones, love things like pecan, caramel, or chili (in small quantities). 123. I know Canadian chips can be different than others, how does "dill pickle" or "ketchup" sound? Dill pickle sounds NOT for me, hehe, but I really liked the Heinz ketchup chips they had in the Netherlands a few years back.. 124. If you were getting a custom Haus of Gloi blend, what four notes would you choose? This would be such an awesome gift, especially since I have said this would be the only perfume I'd wear except for BPAL. It is hard to just choose four, so I will list all the notes that speak to me, and I will trust my gifted Witch to decide from there for me, if she decides to send this to me. Marshmallow. Blood Orange. Chocolate. Cinnamon Sugar. Coffee. Leather. Sweet Cream. Yellow Pear. Cake. Brown Sugar. Vanilla Bean. White Vanilla Sugar. Dark Patchouli. Mahogany. 125. Do you like Kickstarter? Are there any projects up that you really like? I love Kickstarter! I've heard Beth will be setting up a project there, that I'd be very interested in. I like the project with the soy candle, but they don't ship outside of USA. 126. If you have an Etsy wishlist, what are your top 5 favorite things on there? This, this, this, this and this. 127. Festival this week -- includes an "encampment" and an art fair. Any interest in trinkety things from the encampment or cards/prints from local artists? No trinkety things, please, but artistic cards are always nice. 128. How do you feel about glitter? does loose glitter make your skin crawl or would you bathe in it? Glittah me baby! 129. Do you want/need/like/collect journals? If so, do you prefer lined or unlined? I'm in love with Paperblanks! Both could work. 130. Does the idea of wearing a plant as jewelery give you the warm fuzzies or the heebie jeebies? Cool idea, but not for me.   131. Gourmet popcorn, yes/no? What do you like: glazed, savory, candied? Nuts or not? Any flavors you wouldn't like (like Bacon CHeeseburger, Pizza, Watermelon, Root Beer Float, Hot Chili Dark Chocolate)? Or if any of those sounded interesting, how weird is weird enough? Have never tried, but would love to. Either glazed, savory or candied, I like nuts, really would not like Cheeseburger, Pizza or Root Beer Float. 132. I make my own hair gloss, would you like some detangling and very shiny hair gloss made by me? This is a 'cone rich blend, not the least bit natural. No thank you, I prefer natural ones. 133. Every package has to have something blue in it. Blue can also be used to describe more risque humor...how would you rate your general sense of humor? Are you strictly PG-13, R-rated, NC-17? I have no clue what those abbreviations mean, but yes, I like dirty humor, just nothing based on racism or discrimination. 134. Do you like puzzles? What kind? Jigsaw, word, etc? Haven't been interested in them in a long time. 135. Anything interesting from the new Paintbox Soapworks update for you? Candy Floss! Nekisse! Moundshroud! 136. What about recycled sari silk yarn, witches and witchees? Not really interested in yarn. 137. Sooo, the Blooddrop update (Aviary and Summer Simplicities). Anything you'd like from there? Not really. 138. I am going back to Paradise Fibers today. They have like almost every type of fiber roving and dye and stuff available. If you're a spinner and have any fiber wishes, what would you like? Dyed or natural? Do you need dye? colors? brand? No wishes, really. 139. If I wanted to include something for your fluffball, what would be good, and what should I stay away from? She doesn't really have toys, and more likes playing with packaging then anything else. 140. Would homemade treats be something you'd like for your dog/cat? No, thank you.   141. If you get a long weekend this weekend... what are you doing with it? Staying in? Going out? Family? Friends? If you don't get a long weekend, are you OK with that, or a little sad? (If you are Canadian, apply this to last weekend). I didn't have a long weekend. 142. Would you be interested in getting a kombucha starter and instructions on how to use it to easily make your own fermented, probiotic tea drink? No, thank you. 143. Anything from Villainess that strikes your fancy, either from their update or from the GC? Nothing in particular.

Summertime Blues 2013 - Switch Witch help - updated 7/13/13

I will edit this as questions come in.   Wishlists I don't think the links worked in my questionnaire, so here they are again. Amazon Wish List   BPAL Wish List (including SW/SF Help): BPAL Wishlist http://www.bpal.org/...935#entry404935   Think Geek Wishlist   Additional questions   Dr. Who? - Not into it.   How much do you like lipbalm? Flavored or unflavored? What are your favorite brands and flavors? I like lipbalm a lot! Flavored, definitely. Some of my favorites are Alba Botanicals, Bonne Bell. Unknown natural/indie are cool too. Tropical flavors, nostalgic candy flavors, weird flavors. SPF is good.   Do you like and wear lipgloss? If yes, what colours? I do! I've been into the Revlon Lip Butters lately. I like a variety. Warm, bright, sheer colors are easiest on me (current favorites are Juicy Papaya and Candy Apple) but occasionally I find a great brown or a fuchsia that goes with my coloring. The ones that never look good on me are pastels, beige or glitter.   For those of you whose wishlists contain only BPALs, are there any other perfume companies you like or would like to try out? For Strange Women, CB I Hate Perfume.   Your feelings on Adagio teas: If you've never had anything from them, would you be open to trying them? If you HAVE had them and like them, name some favorites blends. And if you had them and dislike them, can you name a few *other* tea companies you're into? I haven't had Adagio teas. I'm open to trying them. I'm lazy and prefer teabags. I like robust black teas like Assam, or minty/tart tisanes to make iced tea.   What about coffee? I'm pretty loyal to the local fair-trade roaster Just Coffee for stuff I make at home. I also like espresso drinks when I'm out and about.   Who is your favourite female of all time? Historical, literary, ANYTHING, and why?   If you were a Disney princess you would be?: Rapunzel, natch.   Seashell from Florida? That would be cool.   What craft project do you currently have on your docket or that you want to start? And that craft goodies would be welcome? Historically I have not been very crafty, but I might like to try making cigar-box stringed instruments. Oh, or repainting my living room with milk paints.   If you could have one rare BPAL, what would you choose? Tarot: The Sun.   Are you kinky? Well, I'm eccentric.   Do you enjoy scented candles? Certain sizes that you like? What kind of scents or brands? I can't have them; they bother my cats.   Thoughts about South Africa? Have you been here, would you like to go? Would you like to receive anything South African? Friends who've been there tell me it's beautiful. I'd enjoy receiving local natural or cultural items if my Switch Witch is South African.   Sock Dreams? I like socks, especially cotton or silk ones. Calf or knee lengths work best for me. I dig stripes, funky patterns, neutrals and reds.   Do you need hair accessories? If so, what kind or color? Yes! Silk/satin hair ties, seamless scarves, hair forks, hair sticks, anything else you know of that can comfortably and gently contain massive amounts of hair. (Mine is between waist and hip length, thick and curly.)   What is your favorite shade of blue? Midnight blue! I also love robin's egg blue, turquoise, indigo, ultramarine, cobalt.   If you were to start learning something new (intellectual or craft or hobby), what would it be? Educational theory. Grant writing. Music therapy. Latin percussion. Comedy writing. Music production (actually planning on taking an online course this summer.) Web design. Coding. The list goes on ....   Candy? Only in small quantities. I am partial to intense black licorice, violet candies (violet creams!), and cinnamon swirl caramels. Oh, and I'd love to try the BPAL candies! Especially the Lupercalia ones.   E-reader? I don't have one.   Kitchen gadgets I don't have any.   If your witch is an extremely crafty sort, and she were to send all kinds of homemade foody goodies and handmade crafty stuff - what are items you would NOT LOVE to receive. Please don't hedge on this one...some of us are serious crafters and will be making most of what we send! Items I would NOT love to receive are knitted things (my mom already knits me a ton of stuff) and decorative-only crafts. [ See next question for exception! ] As for food, nothing very perishable -- I'm just one person and don't want to waste your homemade treats.   Do you welcome knitted items? If so, what would you like most? (amigurumi, washcloth, socks, shawl, shawlette, scarf, wrist warmers, hat, etc.) Do you have any favorite fibers? How about any fiber allergies? Favorite color for knitted items? Having said the above, I realize there is one thing I like that my mom doesn't knit me, and that's silk-lined hats! A slouchy beret in linen, cotton, bamboo or some combination, with silk sewn inside to protect my hair, would be very welcome. Favorite colors for knitted items: black, natural, lavender, burgundy, deep blues.   Video games? Not so much these days, although if you have recommendations for good music/piano education ones to use in my profession, I'm all ears.   Do you have something you do, without fail, as a personal daily habit/ritual? Writing by hand, walks.   Do you wear nail polish? What colors do you tend to go for? What are your favorite brands? Are you open to trying indie brands? I wear polish on my toes in the summer. Colors I tend to go for are neutrals, plum, lavender, peach, burnt orange, turquoise -- and bright colors and unconventional colors in general. I'm partial to Zoya. I like little sample bottles as it takes me a long time to go through a bottle of any one color. I don't like glitter or texture effects. Indie brands are cool.   Name three BPAL scents you have tried, but are dying to get more of. TKO, Madagascan Vanilla Rum, Passion Flower   Do you still write real letters on nice stationary to people you like/love? Yes, on special occasions.   Have you ever tried anything from Paintbox Soapworks? Which products or scents would you prefer? Never tried. The Gingermilk, Miss Ada and Little Paper Umbrellas solid scents look nice.   Do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you grow? I don't do much of it at home these days (I have one little tomato plant). I subscribe to a CSA and sometimes help with that.   Do you like sample sized things? Think lip gloss, mascara, body lotion, scrubs, mini candles, and so forth. Yes, samples are fun.   Have you tried Fortune Cookie Soap? What products or scents would you like? Never even heard of it! I'm not much a soap person, evidently. Do you use solid soaps at all? If so, what kind do or don't you like? Not really.   Have you ever tried Cocoa Pink? If you are curious about it, what looks interesting to you? Not tried. Do you like Lush? If so, what is your favorite product that is currently available, also, what is a product that you love but has been discontinued? I like their citrusy shower things, the toothy tabs, and the lip scrubs. Shiro cosmetics? Eye pigments? I do better with cream eyeshadows.   As I am in Japan, what sort of things would you like from there? Clothing, artwork -- anything unique to the country you think I'd like.   Do you read literature/culture blogs or websites of any kind? I'm thinking about anything that would help a putative witch to get a sense of what your current tastes in books, movies, games, genres, approaches to culture and literature and so forth are. Hmmm ... I don't think I read any such sites regularly.   Since FB and the FB Gusp group (and the BPAL Sorority which is quiet) have become gathering places...what are some of your favorite Facebook pages you like? I go on Facebook to communicate with friends and/or play Scrabble.   How do you feel about traditional picnics (namely the intimate table for two variety)? Old-fashioned basket or something more utilitarian (cooler/insulated bag)? I love picnics! Utilitarian works best for me.   If you were put in a room with 100 random other people the same age and sex as you, from your country, in what way do you think you would be different from the average? Self-employed, never married, no kids (nor grandkids, natch.) Third-generation American. I've been a radio host, a model, a legal assistant, a farmhand, a bookstore manager, and a door-to-door fundraiser, among other things. Skipped a grade of school in a new country. Was arrested with Casey Kasem. Started a music career in my 40s. I teach 8-year-old girls to be rock stars.   Are there any companies, products, or items you boycott? I try to buy local and/or indie when applicable. I keep an eye on sustainability and labor practices as well.   Which reading level do you prefer to read in -- YA or Adult? Or even both? Both. I haven't been a YA for ages now, but I still enjoy reading good YA fiction on occasion. (Feed by M.T. Anderson was a favorite.) And I would love to be introduced to more good adult fiction.   Haus of Gloi did a Reverie update! Do any of them interest you? (Or anything else up currently?) I was unfamiliar with them, but the Perfume, Made For You interests me.   Witchee, do you cook? Do you do all the cooking? Is it a chore or a pleasure? I do it all, and it's a pleasure. I just made a green salad with dill and fennel vinaigrette, mixed nuts and dried cranberries, and am now steaming some fresh asparagus!   What colors/style is your kitchen decor? And do you entertain in your home? I have an itty-bitty nondescript kitchen. I don't entertain in my home, except for picnics in the backyard. I do have a few assorted Fiesta Ware plates I like.   Are your ears pierced? Yes, one in each earlobe.   Do you like stuffies/stuffed animals/art doll type thingies? If so, any particular type you'd love to get? Not for me, thanks.   Switch Witch is, of course, all about you.....but if your Witch was so inclined, are there wee little ones in your home that will get jealous and are just too young to understand why you won't share the love, who maybe need a touch of Witchee love all their own, to distract them while you hide all your lovelies?!? My cats don't get jealous of SW -- only of my computer screen! And they'll probably make any Witchee boxes into toys.   Questions: If you knew you were going to live comfortably for say 800 years, what profession, calling or project might you pursue with some of your extra years, which you imagine you may not do in the life that you have? Is there any thing - an object, a donation on your behalf, some research done for you, whatever - that your witch could do about this that you would like? And if you can't think of a present, would you rather she/he (I!) didn't either and confined themselves to things you are already involved in? Can't think of anything at the moment. Will come back to this. Hmmm, it could be interesting for you to write a story or song lyrics based on what you know about me, if you're into that kind of thing.   Do you like bags? If so, what type (rucksack, clutch, shopping bag) colour and would you like/need a new one? My current bag is actually wearing out, so a new (or sturdy used) one would be welcome. I like messenger bags and duffels. I carry a mini-laptop and music books in my bag as well as the usual stuff like lip balm and vitamins, to give you an idea of the size/shape. I'm pretty open on color as long as it fits with my tastes generally.   What's your favourite comfort food (snack or candy etc) and/or drink? Tamari rice crackers, mixed nuts with dried cranberries, fruit juices mixed with sparkling water, ginger beer, swiss cheese.   Would you like anything from an European country? Any particular food or goodies, magazines, books, whatever would be available to your witch in his/her country. Yes, that would be great! Anything that's unique to my witch's country would be of interest. If you're in Germany, my English friends tell me you get the best black tea there. If you're in France, I used to live there and miss many things -- see the creme de marrons question further down this list.   What fandoms do you belong to? I don't really belong to any fandoms.   What cheers you up? A good cup of coffee, a clean house, a massage, a day in the country, the smell of fresh citrus, a walk with a friend.   Do you like tarot cards, pendulums and rune stones etc? If so, what type? I like tarot cards. I have a Motherpeace deck and would like to try working with a traditional Rider Waite deck as well.   Who or where would you most want to haunt? Who would you least want to be haunted by? I'd most want to haunt the house I grew up in. I can't think of anyone I'd want to be haunted by, let alone who least.   0What question do you hate to answer? I'm an introvert. I don't like questions that invade my personal space (especially in person.)   What is the best compliment you have/could receive? As someone else mentioned, laughter at my humor -- I like it because it's immediate and hard to fake. I also like when someone appreciates my songs on more than one level.   Witchee, I know that SW isn't about what you get... but could you name one thing you would be heartbroken not to get and one thing you would be a-ok if it didn't make it in your box? (i.e. do you REALLY want perfume oil of some sort, or would you be totally heartbroken if there was no Lush in your box, etc) I'd like something personal in some way - a sense of who my witch is, and that she gets who I am. Okay, and at least one little thing that smells good. It would be a-ok with me if there wasn't tea (although if my witch is in Germany, see my answer above.)   Would you like something from Empire Edibles? Those violet creams sound amazing! (Or violet creams from anywhere, really.)   Is there anything small you try to collect from everywhere you visit? I'm not consistent about this, but if I see a cool coin or matchbook or rock or shell I'll pick it up.   What are the three books you most want to read right now, and which you don't already have? 1) Nobody's Family Is Going To Change, by Louise Fitzhugh. 2) 9th & 13th, by Jonathan Coe 3) The Highly Sensitive Person, by Elaine Aron   Is there a literary character you identify with? Even if it's not spot-on, just someone you found yourself having that "I identify with this" feeling? Harriet in Harriet the Spy, Adah in The Poisonwood Bible.   What would you like from the most recent BPAL update? What are you planning on buying for yourself and what would you like to try? I'm safe from this update. I'm really looking forward to the TAL update!   Opinions on table top games, from cards and board games, to dice and rpgs. What do you like? What don't you like? Favorites? Any classics you like? Do you collect any? I like Apples to Apples, Encore, Scrabble and Pictionary. I'd like to try Cards Against Humanity. It would be fun to try some more word, music, or ice-breaker type games. Oh, and I'm interested in the idea of cooperative or "New Games".   What style is your sense of humour? I like to mix it up. I write sly satire, whimsical songs, and out-there surreal stuff, and I once played a Charlie Chaplin-type character in a documentary about chickens. (Yes, really.) I enjoy absurdity, wordplay, good-natured banter, and the masterful physical comedy of my two cats.   Do you have any problems with swearing or particularly off-color humor? No problems with swearing or off-color humor per se. Just as long as it's not mean-spirited.   Is there anything from Australia you would like? eg: snacks (yes, you can ask for Tim Tams!), books, magazines, memorabilia? I'm curious about musk lollies. Aboriginal art printed on a t-shirt would be cool too.   Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? Yay. Introduce me to someplace you think I'd love.   How big is too big...for something to hang on your walls? If I'm painting you a pretty picture, are there maximum dimensions that you have/prefer? I prefer 16 x 16 or smaller.   Question: what is your favourite object, that you own, ignoring sentimental reasons for attachment? So I guess something you find beautiful, or fun, or incredibly useful. At the moment it's my Ashbory bass guitar. Just look at how cool it is! Ashbory bass   Is there someone on the forums (within SW or not) who knows you really well and might be able to help with stalking? There are several folks who at least know me in person from local Meet & Sniffs: orata, Venneh, Chanter, wendyb1063, starrykitten.   If you happen to find out who yours is, how much would it bother you? This is all for fun anyway. It would be fine.   Do you use waxmelts or tarts? If so, which ones do you prefer? I don't use either.   Do you enjoy drinking hot chocolate, and would you like stuff to make it with, or to add to it? I like the gourmet stuff a great deal, and I'd be into stuff to make it with or add to it.   Have you ever tried Spoonfudge? Would you enjoy it if your Witch would send you some? Which of the flavors would you like? I think I'd better take a pass on that one!   What's your opinion on Moonalisa? Any favorites or products you'd like to try? I wasn't familiar with it. Possibly the dusting powder?   Are there any BPALs that you loved the idea of, the imagery - whether artwork or description - but which didn't work out for you? Sol Invictus and Ra. I love the idea and imagery of these BPAL solar oils, but the only one I really want is Tarot: The Sun. Or, in TAL form, Joy.   I saw you have a cat - would it be okay for me to add something for them in a package? Do they like mousies, crunch/soft treats or 'nip? Absolutely! Pleasing my cats pleases me. The girl likes things she can carry around in her mouth. I think she hid her rainbow caterpillar Honeysuckle Hug and I haven't been able to find another one, so if you know where to get one we'd all love that. The boy is a maniac for bonito flakes.     Also, STARBUCKS, Yay or Nay? Anything you particularly like? Nay, thanks.   Ninjas or Pirates? Pirates. Werewolves or Vampires? Vampires. Zombie or Cthulhu? Cthulhu.   Do you want to receive one big package or a bunch of small ones? Digital stuff all at the end when the box should arrive or as we go? I'm happy with whatever my witch prefers, and what works for their postal situation and the amount of time they have to witch.   What is your favorite color? Purple.   What is your favorite season? Autumn.   If you could live anywhere in the world and money was no object, where would it be? I haven't explored enough places to decide - possibly the South of France?   Do you have any symbols or totems that are meaningful to you? Mountains (hence the screen name).   When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? A massage, a hot shower, a comfort scent, a yummy nutritious meal cooked by someone else, a note from a fan.   Would you like if your witch sent a regional pop/soda? If so, what type (Root beer, creme soda, cola, citrus-flavored, chocolate-flavored, etc...)? I don't drink much soda, but if you have some good flavors/types I can't get here in Wisconsin, I might like to try a bit. A good ginger beer or a peach soda.   Do you have any long trips coming up? If so, could you use things to occupy yourself? Yes, in a car in late July. I don't do well if I try to read in moving vehicles, but maybe there's something tactile that could occupy me? Otherwise I just try to sleep.   I'm going to Jungle Jim's next week (it's basically a massive international food gasm in Ohio, look it up); would anything interest you? A variety of vegetarian Indian dinners. Or anything else you think I might like.   Name three things that you could use, but might not necessarily think to get for yourself? 1. An eye mask 2. Post-it notes 3. Stuff to clean my computer and phone screens with. Does anything from the TP Etsy update interest you? What are you planning on buying for yourself and what would you like to try? Ooh lordy! Let's see: Decants: Hungry Ghost Moon (although I'm waffling on whether or not to get a bottle of this), Aurelia, Desmonia, and maybe a sniffie of Epibulia. Bottles: Calocyclas & Stentor. I'm not sure which ones I'll end up buying; it just depends on finances (stupid student loans). At least I look to be safer from this update than others.   Opinions on table top games, from cards and board games, to dice and rpgs. What do you like? What don't you like? Favorites? Any classics you like? Do you collect any? I table top games! I have every Dominion expansion (and the base game), 2 different versions of Fluxx (base game + Monty Python version), some of the older Cheap Ass games (and downloads of the others I need to print off)! I'm constantly looking for decent 2-player games, since it's typically my daughter & myself (and trying to get her to play *anything* is like pulling teeth).   What style is your sense of humour? I'm not sure how to classify it. I know I have a sense of humor, which can sometimes be very witty, sometimes be very dry, sometimes be very goofy. It's just very ... me. I do like Monty Python, Bill Mahr, and George Carlin ... not a huge fan of things like Road Trip, Ace Ventura (I actually prefer a lot of Jim Carey's more serious stuff to his slapstick comedy), the Hangover, etc ... I find stupid humor just that - stupid.   Is there anything from Australia you would like? eg: snacks (yes, you can ask for Tim Tams!), books, magazines, memorabilia? Yes, please? I don't even know what to ask for! Tim Tams? I don't know what those are .... *shameful look*   Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? Gift cards are fantastic! Starbucks, iTunes, Home Depot are big on my list. Amazon & Etsy also work.   Put your mp3 player/online music/itunes/etc on random and list the next 10 songs here:   I have a feeling I will struggle with keeping my identity secret from my witchee. If you happen to find out who yours is, how much would it bother you? It won't bother me too much, but there's something to be said for surprises!   Is there someone on the forums (within SW or not) who knows you really well and might be able to help with stalking? Hrm ... t3andcrumpets? Maybe Beckie (she was my Warmer in the recent "Heart's Gift Swap"   Do you use waxmelts or tarts? If so, which ones do you prefer? I have more tarts than I can use at the moment. Please no more!   Do you enjoy drinking hot chocolate, and would you like stuff to make it with, or to add to it? I do, but I can't even fathom it right now, living in Texas. Our winters don't get that cold, and I tend to go more for a cup of hot tea when that happens, than a cup of hot cocoa.   Have you ever tried Spoonfudge? Would you enjoy it if your Witch would send you some? Which of the flavors would you like? What's a "Spoonfudge"?   What's your opinion on Moonalisa? Any favorites or products you'd like to try? I'm not sure I can afford another company in there! Are there any BPALs that you loved the idea of, the imagery - whether artwork or description - but which didn't work out for you?   Is there a Quote that resonates with you, or that you particularly like a lot. Would this be something you would like artwork made of for your walls or a shirt/bag/scarf?     Also, STARBUCKS, Yay or Nay? Anything you particularly like? YAY! FRAPPACCINO'S ALL THE WAY, BABY! Er ... was that too much?   Ninjas or Pirates? Ninjas!   Werewolves or Vampires? Vampires, so long as they don't sparkle!   Zombie or Cthulhu? Cthulhu   Do you want to receive one big package or a bunch of small ones? Digital stuff all at the end when the box should arrive or as we go? That's a tough choice. I love getting surprises in the mail, and random surprises as we go along are always nice, but there's also something to be said for getting one big package towards the end. Maybe digital stuff as we go, and one big box at the end? Do whatever works best for you, dear Witch     Do you welcome knitted items? If so, what would you like most? (amigurumi, washcloth, socks, shawl, shawlette, scarf, wrist warmers, hat, etc.) Do you have any favorite fibers? How about any fiber allergies? Favorite color for knitted items? Sure! Scarves are always welcome (I'm an addict, I admit). Not really sure on favourite fibres, but I don't think I have any fibre allergies. Colours would include dark blue, dark red, dark green (sensing a theme here?)   Do you have any symbols or totems that are meaningful to you? The Phoenix, in it's various incarnations (my tattoo is the Egyptian Bennu, which was their take on the original phoenix). It's a good reminder that no matter how many times in my life I've burned to the ground, I always rise up stronger, better than I was before.   When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? Sadly, I'm not really sure how to answer this one. Not yet, at least.   Would you like if your witch sent a regional soda? If so, what type (Root beer, creme soda, cola, citrus-flavored, chocolate-flavored, etc...)? I'm a big fan of Fever Tree Ginger Beer   What are the three BPALs you would most like to receive - one GC, one not-hard to find LE, and one HTF LE from your dreams? I'd have to go look. I'm not sure what my HG would be ...   If you knit/crochet, what sizes of needles do you need? WEAPONS OF DOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM! STABBYSTABBYSTABBY. Er ... I mean ... Uh .... What styles of artwork do you like?   If you cook, would you be interested in-hand made spice mixes/rubs? Not so much, mostly because I make my own   Would you like mexican vanilla or silver rings/necklaces? Mexican vanilla? Sure. Silver? ALL THE SILVER ARE BELONG TO MEEEEEEEEEE!   Is there anything from the Oddment Emporium you would like?   What is your favorite color? Dark colours -- blues, greens, reds, black   What is your favorite season? The only seasons we have in Austin are "oak, mold, ragweed, and cedar" ... none of them are favorites.   If you could live anywhere in the world and money was no object, where would it be? I'd have to visit more places before I could make that determination.   Do you have any long trips coming up? If so, could you use things to occupy yourself? I have a trip coming up from 7/11 - 7/14; while that may not seem like a "long trip," it's me flying to NY to visit my mother. My 2-week roadtrip last year will seem like an overnight visit, by comparison.   I'm going to Jungle Jim's next week (it's basically a massive international food gasm in Ohio, look it up); would anything interest you?   Name three things that you could use, but might not necessarily think to get for yourself?   Would any witchee be interested in this comic? or any of her three comics? Oooh ... those look fabulous. And I have the Comixology app on my iPad, so you could even do e-Comics.   Does anything from the TP Etsy update interest you? I haven't even looked, but I'm sure there's something I could use.   I just found out Oreo is launching ones with watermelon flavor in the USA only. Is it something you would enjoy? I think I'll pass on this one.   What do you love about summer (even if it’s your least-favorite season)? Daylight   Are there any books that just came out (like within the last two months) or are about to come out during this round that you're really looking forward to? The latest Neil Gaiman book!   Do you have a quote that's not more than, say, a dozen words long that you would like in a cross-stitch? Not so much so   Dear Witchee: If you don't consider yourself in a "fandom" (and I get that ... I don't really go overboard on my liking of any TV show/Movie/etc), are there any TV shows or Movies that you really like and/or watch regularly or any actors/actresses you wouldn't leave standing in the rain (unless you like looking at them sopping wet, in which case ... well, nevermind)? I do like a lot of shows (well, fewer than I used to): Castle, Game of Thrones, CSI, Criminal Minds (Shemar Moore ... mmmmm ), Doctor Who, Sherlock (I'm a fan of Cumberbatch as an individual, but I've never understood the appeal of his looks; to me, the man looks like a lizard). I adore Patrick Stewart, Kevin Spacey and Gary Oldman (3 of Hollywood's most under-rated actors). But I wouldn't fangirl over any of them (well, maybe Shemar, but even then).   So, dear witchee, would you like some Tw*twaffle soap or scent or lotion? Soap! No lotion   Has anyone asked about tattoos? Do you love them? Hate them? Have any? Want any? Love them, have 1, will eventually get another (but won't until I know exactly what I want to get)   TAL update on etsy. Is there anything you want/need? Possibly, but I don't know what.   I live near the Brown and Haley outlet - makers of Almond Roca and Mountain Bars - would you want anything from the outlet? For nut-haters, they have nutless Roca (but not nut-free, for the allergic, sorry!) For the no-sugar folks they have sugar-free as well. No thanks.   I also have an Oberto jerky outlet local to me - any wants there? I'm going to pass on the jerky - I've never been a fan.   How do you feel about home-canned goods? Pickles? Ketchup? Mustard? Jam? Marmalade? I'm not sure I'd go through it, to be honest. It's just me and I seldom cook at home anymore.   Do you like BPTP clothing? What size do you wear of: I do, but I don't own any! I'm not sure what my sizes would be   Baby-doll T's -- I don't buy baby-doll T's. I'm not shaped right for them. Regular T's -- XL or XXL yoga pants -- hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!   Socks might be better. Seriously.   Also, what is your favorite lunacy (or non-lunacy) T-shirt that you don't already own? Or other clothes from BPTP? I don't own any! I kinda dig: A Picnic in Arkham, Black Moon Rising, Molly Crabapple, & Resurrection. Other items: Any of the stockings would work.   What else do you love from the Trading Post site, and need to have? A Scent Locket (Carnivale Diabolique, Clockwork, Phoenix), Bar Soaps   Is there a particular movie genre that you like (Fantasy? Drama? Romantic Comedy? Musicals? TV-Series, etc), and what format would you prefer: DVD, Blu-Ray, or something in the cloud (like Amazon, iTunes, Flixster, etc)? Sci-Fi & Fantasy, and TV-Series. I still prefer physical media over Cloud-based items.   Following up on the Adagio question from earlier, what are you top five wishes, for teas and blends? I'd love to try some of the Game of Thrones series blends, and the TARDIS blend from Cara McGee's series (although I'd love just the tin, too! )   Do you have anything that you do ritually, every summer? Nope   What are your top five wishes from ThinkGeek? Scents from the RPG series? Anything Doctor Who or Game of Thrones related. I'm not sure I could narrow it down to 5 items!   Seen anything lately that makes you go OH HOLY FUCK THAT'S AWESOME!! ?   Do you like audiobooks? If so, do you have/would you like to try Audible? (I'm an addict, myself.) Not so much. I prefer to actually read my books.   Chocolate: Love? Hate? Allergic? If love, what are your faves? Dark chocolate. Dark chocolate with sea salt & caramel. No Nestle or Hershey, though. Give me Dove, Ghiradelli, or better. Yes! Glazed, Candied, nuts would need to be almonds or cashews. No overly weird flavors. I had some recently that had dark chocolate, caramel & cashews in it and it was FANTASTIC.   would you like some detangling and very shiny hair gloss made by me? This is a 'cone rich blend, not the least bit natural. I'm not a huge hair-product person. I kid you not, one bottle of the BPTP hair gloss is going to last me *forever*   I know the question about personal style was included in the questionnaire, but is there anything that could give your witch a better sense of your style/fashion or decoration preferences? Like tumblrs, pictures you like, websites, stores (or brands) you like or would like to be able to shop at and so forth? I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm ridiculously low-maintenance, and my wardrobe is pretty sparse. All appropriate Pinterest, Tumblr, etc links are on the spreadsheet (and somewhere answered in this blog), though.   I saw you have a cat - would it be okay for me to add something for them in a package? Do they like mousies, crunch/soft treats or 'nip? Aww ... she'd love it. She goes nuts for catnip toys, and the Greenies crunchy treats.   Do you like earrings? Any particular style appeal to you? (hoops, chandelier style, pretty beads etc.) Wires over posts, silver preferably (my ears eat yellow gold). I absolutely adore Wyrding Studios and have a few other shops listed in my Etsy favourites.   Do you like/wear makeup? If so what brands/colors/types? No make up for me.   Is there anything special I could get you from New York City? I've never been to NYC, so I wouldn't even know what to ask for.   Do you want/need/like/collect journals? If so, do you prefer lined or unlined? I don't need any more journals - I have more than I can use right now   How do you feel about glitter? does loose glitter make your skin crawl or would you bathe in it? No glitter! No glitter! No glitter!! Sparkly things are okay, but no no no on the loose glitter!   I know Canadian chips can be different than others, how does "dill pickle" or "ketchup" sound? I do occasionally try new things, but even those ... I think I'm not that brave.   If you were getting a custom Haus of Gloi blend, what four notes would you choose? Summer notes listed here and you can click through to the whole list from there. http://www.hausofglo...er-single-notes I think I'd be lousy at picking 4 notes to go together.   Do you like Kickstarter? Are there any projects up that you really like? I do like Kickstarter, but haven't been through the recent listing to see what's up.   If you have an Etsy wishlist, what are your top 5 favorite things on there? The price is unimportant, not because I'm rich, but because I'd like some inspiration.   Festival this week -- includes an "encampment" and an art faire. any interest in trinkety things from the encampment or cards/prints from local artists Sure! Why not?   Every package has to have something blue in it. Blue can also be used to describe more risque humor...how would you rate your general sense of humor? Are you strictly PG-13, R-rated, NC-17? Any & all of that is fine NC-17 is good, I guess.   Do you like puzzles? What kind? Jigsaw, word, etc? I love jigsaw & logic puzzles. I don't really have the space for them these days, though.   Anything interesting from the new Paintbox Soapworks update for you? Oh lord. I'm not sure there's enough space for this! All soaps (no sorbetto or lotion, please): High in the 70s, Lady Linden, Candy Floss sounds interesting, Orange Crush, Sweet 100s, Moundshroud, The Olive Tree ...   What about recycled sari silk yarn, witches and witchees? I wouldn't do anything with it, sorry   Sooo, the Blooddrop update (Aviary and Summer Simplicities). Anything you'd like from there? Not at this time.   If I wanted to include something for your fluffball, what would be good, and what should I stay away from? She'd love it! I think she'd be good with anything.   Would homemade treats be something you'd like for your dog/cat? Possibly - I'm not sure what she'd munch on, though.   If you get a long weekend this weekend... what are you doing with it? Staying in? Going out? Family? Friends? If you don't get a long weekend, are you OK with that, or a little sad? (If you are Canadian, apply this to last weekend). I wish I could have had a long weekend, but it is what it is. If I didn't work in a job that required me to take vacation, I probably would never take one.

Summertime Blues Switch Witch 2013

Hi, Witch! You haven't been assigned to me yet, but I'll put all Q&A answers from the forum here for you, so you don't have to dig. Nah, I've got plenty.   Does the idea of wearing a plant as jewelery give you the warm fuzzies or the heebie jeebies? It sounds neat, but probably wouldn't survive long. Sure, that sounds good. I like salty/sweet combinations with popcorn (aside from your standard salt & butter, anyway). Nuts are ok.   Question: I make my own hair gloss, would you like some detangling and very shiny hair gloss made by me? This is a 'cone rich blend, not the least bit natural. No thanks. I have plenty.   2013-06-27   I live near the Brown and Haley outlet - makers of Almond Roca and Mountain Bars - would you want anything from the outlet? For nut-haters, they have nutless Roca For the no-sugar folks they have sugar-free as well. I like nuts. I've never tried a Mountain Bar. I'd try 'em.   I also have an Oberto jerky outlet local to me - any wants there? Yes! I would love that! YES!!!   Name three things that you could use, but might not necessarily think to get for yourself? Hmm. Can't think of anything off the top of my head.   Does anything from the TP Etsy update interest you? I added some stuff to my wishlist.   I just found out Oreo is launching ones with watermelon flavor in the USA only. Is it something you would enjoy? Definitely not. Watermelon is one of those flavors (like cherry) that I don't enjoy "flavored" versions of; only the real thing.   What are the three BPALs you would most like to receive - one GC, one not-hard to find LE, and one HTF LE from your dreams? Mouse Circus, Bakeneko, Mosterbait: Underpants   If you don't consider yourself in a "fandom" (and I get that ... Would this be something you would like artwork made of for your walls or a shirt/bag/scarf? Probably my two faves:   "Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls." - Joseph Campbell   "I would like to see anyone, prophet, king or God, convince a thousand cats to do the same thing at the same time." ― Neil Gaiman   Also, STARBUCKS, Yay or Nay? Anything you particularly like? Starbucks is ok (mostly because it's currently all we have in my town; if possible, if prefer to support a local coffee shop [but only if it's good]). I like to get their various espresso drinks (hot or cold, depending on the season). I don't like to buy their bagged coffee, because I can get much better regular coffee elsewhere.   Is there someone on the forums (within SW or not) who knows you really well and might be able to help with stalking? Ummm... I'm not sure.   If you happen to find out who yours is, how much would it bother you? It wouldn't.   Do you use waxmelts or tarts? If so, which ones do you prefer? I don't know the difference between the two.   Do you enjoy drinking hot chocolate, and would you like stuff to make it with, or to add to it? I haven't tried it, but I'd be open to trying it.   What's your opinion on Moonalisa? Any favorites or products you'd like to try? I like Moona Lisa a lot. I used to never, ever get in on any of her sales, but I've managed to get in a couple of orders this year (thank you, Facebook page). I like her 4-in-one shower gel/shampoo product, and I also got a nice bath soak last time. I'd like to try more.   Are there any BPALs that you loved the idea of, the imagery - whether artwork or description - but which didn't work out for you? (I'm asking because if they did, you might mention them elsewhere, but if not, the imagery might be helpful) I wish Hecate and Khajuraho loved me, but sadly, they do not.   2013-06-22   Put your mp3 player/online music/itunes/etc on random and list the next 10 songs here: David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust The Cure - A Reflection The Knife - The Captain Bat for Lashes - Sleep Alone Bad Religion - I Love My Computer How to Destroy Angels - Ice Age White Zombie - Real Solution #9 Siouxsie and the Banshees - Helter Skelter Your Bones - Of Monsters and Men Boysetsfire - High Wire Escape Artist   What is your favourite object, that you own, ignoring sentimental reasons for attachment? So I guess something you find beautiful, or fun, or incredibly useful. Ignoring sentiment? I have a few: My Macbook Pro - I just got a new one to replace my 2009 17-inch that had beer spilled on it. It's a gorgeous retina with a solid state drive, so fast and awesome, and allows me to work anywhere I want. I LOVE it. My iPad - I don't know how I ever lived without this. Books! Games! Movies! All the entertainments! I have a really gorgeous Bast figure that I love. It looks similar to this.   How big is too big...for something to hang on your walls? If I'm painting you a pretty picture, are there maximum dimensions that you have/prefer? Umm... 18x24 maybe?   Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? Can provide photos if necessary.   What would you like from the most recent BPAL update? What are you planning on buying for yourself and what would you like to try? I popped those in my wish list.   Is there a literary character you identify with? Even if it's not spot-on, just someone you found yourself having that "I identify with this" feeling? Not that I can think of off the top of my head.   What are the three books you most want to read right now, and which you don't already have? Doctor Sleep by Stephen King Chimes at Midnight by Seanan McGuire Skin Game by Jim Butcher (I know, I know, none of these are actually out yet, so what good is that? Thematic direction?)   Would you like something from Empire Edibles? That looks tasty.   Is there anything small you try to collect from everywhere you visit? Stones   Witchee, I know that SW isn't about what you get... but could you name one thing you would be heartbroken not to get and one thing you would be a-ok if it didn't make it in your box? (i.e. do you REALLY want perfume oil of some sort, or would you be totally heartbroken if there was no Lush in your box, etc I wouldn't say heartbroken, but I would love some perfume oil. Last summer, my hubby was laid off, and I had to eBay a huge portion of my collection to make ends meet, so I'm mostly down to absolute faves that I've worn a bunch. (Note: my ScentBase stash isn't entirely up to date, although I did update my wish list.)   Do you like tarot cards, pendulums and rune stones etc? If so, what type? I love tarot cards, and sort of collect them. Here are the decks I currently have: The Tarot of Pagan Cats, The Cleopatra Tarot, The Vertigo Tarot, and The Revelations Tarot.   What fandoms do you belong to? I think my witch can probably glean this from my questionnaire, but: Song of Ice & Fire, Dresden Files, Doctor Who, basically the entire Whedonverse, The Dark Tower/practically any Stephen King, Star Trek:TNG. I'm probably leaving some stuff out.   What cheers you up? Snuggles from my kittehs or the pups.   Who or where would you most want to haunt? Who would you least want to be haunted by? I would want to haunt some place with lots of people, so I wouldn't be bored.   What question do you hate to answer? I don't know.   What is the best compliment you have/could receive? I love getting compliments on my work.   Would you like anything from an European country? Any particular food or goodies, magazines, books, whatever would be available to your witch in his/her country. Sure! Kind of the same as my answer to the Japan question. I'd love something that you feel really represents your country. Send me a little piece of your world!   Do you like bags? If so, what type (rucksack, clutch, shopping bag) colour and would you like/need a new one? Purse-wise, I LOVE tokidoki bags (those are, of course, way to expensive! but that gives you an idea of my taste). I also love shopping bags/totes I can take to the farmer's market.   What's your favourite comfort food (snack or candy etc) and/or drink? Comfort food: wonton soup. Comfort drink: One of my favorite wines, El Feliño Malbec. (sorry if this feels a bit Spanish Inquisition!) Sure! I'd love that. All my favorites and nemeses should be in the questionnaire.   If you knew you were going to live comfortably for say 800 years, what profession, calling or project might you pursue with some of your extra years, which you imagine you may not do in the life that you have? Silversmithing.   Is there any thing - an object, a donation on your behalf, some research done for you, whatever - that your witch could do about this that you would like? And if you can't think of a present, would you rather she/he (I!) didn't either and confined themselves to things you are already involved in? Not that I can think of at the moment.   What colors/style is your kitchen decor? And do you entertain in your home? Red is the color, and we don't really entertain anyone except close friends or family.   Are your ears pierced? Yes. I have two regular piercings in each ear, and gauges (00 size). I can always use new plugs and such.   Do you like stuffies/stuffed animals/art doll type thingies? If so, any particular type you'd love to get? I do! I'd love a tokidoki plush, although what I'm really wishing for is more of the Royal Pride vinyl toys (right now I have the pink poodle) or other tokidoki vinyls (the other I have is the white cactus kitty).   Switch Witch is, of course, all about you.....but if your Witch was so inclined, are there wee little ones in your home that will get jealous and are just too young to understand why you won't share the love, who maybe need a touch of Witchee love all their own, to distract them while you hide all your lovelies?!? Nope.   2013-06-20   Do you read literature/culture blogs or websites of any kind? I'm thinking about anything that would help a putative witch to get a sense of what your current tastes in books, movies, games, genres, approaches to culture and literature and so forth are. I mostly read stuff related to my work, like Ars Technica.   How do you feel about traditional picnics (namely the intimate table for two variety)? Old-fashioned basket or something more utilitarian (cooler/insulated bag)? Love them! The hubby and I usually go on a couple of picnic dates every summer, with wine and yummy nibbles.   If you were put in a room with 100 random other people the same age and sex as you, from your country, in what way do you think you would be different from the average? Ummmm... I'm pretty unconventional in some ways. I'm very feminist, pro-LGBT, liberal, animal lover. Super geeky (and not just in the currently fashionable hipster way. I play Magic and would be thrilled to find a D&D group in my area). I'm female and not into the mommy thing (Moms are awesome! I certainly love mine! But the family/kids thing is not my thing, personally). Work-wise, I'm a unicorn -- good at design and development, and not happy just doing one or the other, and also good at interacting with clients and various other aspects of the job. Also, being put in a room with 100 random strangers is pretty much my idea of hell.   Haus of Gloi did a Reverie update! Do any of them interest you? (Or anything else up currently?) Yes! I've never tried Haus of Gloi, and I've been wanting to give their stuff a shot. Scents/flavors that look intersting: Beguiled, Sol, The Brier Path, Apothecary, Depravity, Moon Dog, Strawberry Lime, Black Raspberry Cream, Vanilla Mint. Product types I'd like to try: Lip balm, pumpkin butter, whipped soap, bubbling scrub, emulsifying scrub.   Witchee, do you cook? Do you do all the cooking? Is it a chore or a pleasure? My hubby is the chef. Around the first of the year, I was trying to cook more, to teach myself to be a better cook, but then I got really busy with work, so I haven't cooked anything recently.   Which reading level do you prefer to read in YA or Adult? Or even both? I like both, depending. I don't like books that feel like they talk down to kids (for obvious reasons).   2013-06-19   If you could have one rare bpal which one would you choose? Monsterbait: Underpants, hands down.   (Feel free not to answer, I know it's not a standard one!) Are you kinky? I can range off the beaten path now and again...   Do you enjoy scented candles? Certain sizes that you like? What kind of scents or brands? Love them! I tend to go for foodie stuff, or more incense-y scents like sandalwood or amber.   Thoughts about South Africa? Have you been here, would you like to go? Would you like to receive anything South African? I've never been, but would love to go and would be thrilled to receive something from there.   Do you like Sockdreams? If so, what styles would you prefer? (You can also link your wishlist.) I love love love LOVE Sockdreams. Here's my wishlist.   Do you need hair accessories? If so, what kind or color? I can always use something cute for my hair. Note: it's super fine, so bigger clips and such won't hold it. Cute little barettes to help hold what won't stay in a ponytail when I'm at the gym are always appreciated.   What is your favorite shade of blue? Indigo   Do you have any kitchen gadgets (a SodaStream, a Kuerig/Tassimo) that you want mix things for? Nope. I am open to, say, a cookie mix or something like that. I have a Kitchenaid.   If you were to start learning something new (intellectual or craft or hobby), what would it be? Ummm... no idea.   What about candy? Do you have a sweet tooth? I like candy. Things I love: really good chocolate (like Vosges, etc.), Haribo gummies (I really want to try the sour kind, but can't get them in my area), salted caramels.   Do you have an e-reader? What kind? Would you like to get ebooks? I have the Kindle app on my iPad (and the Nook app too), and would love to receive ebooks.   If your witch is an extremely crafty sort, and she were to send all kinds of homemade foody goodies and handmade crafty stuff - what are items you would NOT LOVE to receive. Please dont hedge on this one...some of us are serious crafters and will be making most of what we send! Underwear.   Witchee dear, do you like video games? Are there any you want to play? Do you have a large library? Yes! I am on pins & needles waiting for the PS4 to come out. Right now I'm playing Ni No Kuni and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning on PS3. I'm really eager for Torchlight 2 to be available for Mac. I love fantasy RPG type games, and survival horror. Oh, and puzzles (for example, I really loved The Room for iPad). I play games on my Mac, PS3, and the iPad, and I have a Steam account, if that's helpful.   Do you have something you do, without fail, as a personal daily habit/ritual? (Examples: pen-and-paper journal keeping, tea/coffee drinking, morning yoga, nightly bedtime reading. I'm kind of thinking on things that would be dear to you and might need small supplies or could use certain extras.)   Do you wear nailpolish? What colors do you tend to go for? What are your favorite brands? Are you open to trying indie brands? Yes! I like bright or deep colors, stuff that really stands out, but I also like lighter colors with good depth/shimmer/etc. (For example, I LOVE Essie Demure Vix and get tons of compliments every time I wear it.) I really want to try black French tips with a sheer/nude base, but unfortunately, I'm not skilled enough to do that myself, so I'm going to have to find a good place to get my nails done. My current favorite brands are OPI, Essie and Julep, but I'm dying to try some indie brands. Some of the ladies of GUSP post gorgeous pics to Pinterest, and I want to try them all!   Name three BPAL scents you have tried, but are dying to get more of. Brom Bones (hubby's favorite scent that's he's almost out of and my fave on him too), Monsterbait: Underpants and I can always use more L'Autunno.   Do you still write real letters on nice stationary to people you like/love? My handwriting is so terrible no one could decipher them. Everyone is much happier with my emails.   Have you ever tried anything from Paintbox Soapworks? Which products or scents would you prefer? My current faves are Avast and The Englishman. I really want to try Bluebird in the Lilacs, Candy Floss, Bookkeeper's Butter, and Gooseberry Beach. I love Tarty's sorbetto scrubs.   Do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you grow? Herbs, hot peppers, tomatoes, flowers. I just bought a hanging strawberry plant and a couple of lavenders.   Do you like sample sized things? Think lipgloss, mascara, bodylotion, scrubs, mini candles, and so forth. Yes!   Have you tried Fortune Cookie Soap? What products or scents would you like? No, but I'd love to try some.   Do you use solid soaps at all? If so, what kind do or don't you like? Yes, but I'm a little picky about them, since a lot of them dry my skin. Paintbox soaps aren't drying to me, for example, but Villainess tends to be.   Have you ever tried Cocoa Pink? If you are curious about it, what looks interesting to you? I've only had the chance to try Cocoa Pink once (I got a sample when I ordered some for a witchee). I'd love try more. The After Sun Glow looks interesting (although, let's face it, I don't really go out in the sun ever), as well as the body butter, anti-frizz hair serum, and scrubs.   Do you like Lush? If so, what is your favorite product that is currently available, also, what is a product that you love but has been discontinued? I do! I really like Ocean Salt, and I just got some of their dry shampoo, which is great. I love love love their bath bombs.   Do witches prefer the answers posted here, but a more cherry-picked number of questions answered, or a more exhaustive list posted in the blog, which means posting here much less? I don't really have a preference.   Anyone a fan of Shiro Cosmetics? Any particular products? Eye shadow pigments in general? I've never tried them. I like pigments, though.   Are there any companies, products, or items you boycott? Walmart, and of course the evil Abercrombie (not that it's probably relevant in this context).   As I am in Japan, what sort of things would you like from there? I'm not sure if they're from Japan, but there are these strawberry gummy candies I get at our local Asian market that I love. Really, I'd love to have anything that you feel sort of... represents the "real Japan" or is uniquely Japanese.   Since FB and the FB Gusp group (and the BPAL Sorority which is quiet) have become gathering places...what are some of your favorite Facebook pages you like? Aside from the pages of etailers/retailers I mentioned in my questionnaire, I like I Fucking Love Science and And My Cat.   2013-06-17   Dr Who?   How much do you like lipbalm? Flavored or unflavored? What are your favorite brands and flavors? You might say I have a lipbalm....... problem. My favorite kind is Tokyomilk Dark in the salted caramel flavor. I'm open to all sorts of brands and flavors and such.   Do you like and wear lipgloss? If yes, what colours? Yes! I'm a cool skin tone, color-wise, so something in that range.   For those of you whose wishlists contain only BPALs, are there any other perfume companies you like or would like to try out? Oh crap I need to update my list.... Yes! Nocturne Alchemy is probably my favorite. I also love Blooddrop. I haven't had the chance to try much from Violette Market, so I'd like to try more of theirs.   Your feelings on Adagio teas: If you've never had anything from them, would you be open to trying them? If you HAVE had them and like them, name some favorites blends. And if you had them and dislike them, can you name a few *other* tea companies you're into? I've had the Dr. Horrible tea and I loved it. Would like to try others.   What about coffee? Would you like to get coffee send to you? Whole bean or ground? What are some varieties and/or flavors you enjoy I love coffee! Whole bean. Fair trade if possible.   Who is your favourite female of all time? Historical, literary, ANYTHING, and why? Daenerys Targaryen, for I think fairly obvious reasons. Also, she's basically a dragon.   If you were a Disney princess you would be? Belle. 'Cause books.   Would you like a seashell from Florida? I would love a seashell from anywhere!   What craft project do you currently have on your docket or that you want to start? And that craft goodies would be welcome? Nothing at the moment. Drowning in work.

From: Valentine of Rome

2008 version. This might be the scent that finally makes me learn my lesson about green notes. I amp grass and other herbal stuff like it's my job, making perfumes like Two, Five and Seven a disaster on me, but I've had good luck with some BPALs with juniper and cypress in. I love ancient Rome, I love incense and resins, so I took a gamble....   In the bottle: Something sweet but also really sharp. Licorice! Carnations? CLOVES. Flashback to artsy college friends smoking clove cigarettes which always made me cough. I do smell some beautiful dark rich incense buried under the cloves, but this is not a good opening.   Wet: CLOVES. Clovezilla stomping all over the myrrh and frankincense, probably even the myrtle, absolutely everything else. It's not a sharp headache-causing scent, but kind of sweet-yet-tangy, like fresh-picked herbs. I smell like a spice rack.   Drydown: A little bit of dark pretty incense emerges, but it's very faint and mashed into the tracks of CLOVEZILLA. The CLOVES smell finally does settle down a bit (WTF is causing this? the dragon's blood? the myrtle? some combination?) and more incense comes out, sort of, but it's so faint it's hard to tell if that's really happening or wishful thinking.   Verdict: If you've ever tasted old-time horehound drops, I now smell pretty much like that, except with more cinnamon (which I don't like as a note) and less mint. I am kinda heartbroken here. I might try this in a scent locket or as a room scent to see if the incense comes out more.   Source: Valentine of Rome

list part one

I suspect my eyes are missing a button or something but I can't seem to get wishlist to work,   The list below is mostly scents I've gotten to try thanks to friends and desperate scrimping (there are a few untried but desperately wanteds in there too)You will notice that many of the scents that I have tried and like are discontinued.   I've become almost afraid to order bpal because it seems as soon as I fall in love with a scent it winds up discontinued. I placed a small order just a couple weeks ago and ordered Baghdad. When I placed the order it showed as available. A couple days later I'd get an e-mail saying it is discontinued I need to order a substitute. I think I'm cursed. I don't order imps and have to rely on the free imps to try new fragrances or on imps that friends send to me. I list the discontinued fragrances in hopes that someone may have a bottle or imp or something that they would like to hand off or that the lab will resurrect the fragrance.   My next list will be of scents that I've not had the opportunity to try but would like to. Of course I would dearly love a chance at limited editions and single notes that are released for limited times but my finances are rarely such that money and a desirable scent are available at the same time.   I just don't have funds to gamble on a scent that might make me sick, so as incredible as they are and how much I want to try them, I refrain.   now if I win the lottery......   what I've tried, liked, and want more of.   Abhisarika   Against Idleness and Mischief   Antony   Athens   Ave Maria Gratia Plena   Azathoth   Aziraphale   Baghdad (disc)   Bayou   Belle Epoque   Bilquis   Black Cat   Black Dahlia (disc)   Bliss   Blood Countess (disc)   Bordello   Brides of Dracula   Brisingamen   Cairo   Centzon Totochtin   Chimera   Copper Phoenix   Cordelia   Coyote:heart:   Crowley   Defututa   Dirty   Dorian   Dragon's Bone   Dragon's Claw   Dragon's Eye   Dragon's Tears   Dyan Moon   Embalming Fluid   Eros Fairy Market (disc)   Fallen   Follow Me Boy   Gold Phoenix   Haunted   Harlot   Hecate   Hetairae   horreur sympathetique   Hunger Hymn   imperious tiger lily   Intrigue   Jack   Jezebel   Juliet   Kaiden Kali   Katharina   Kitsune-Tsuki   Kubla Khan   Kytherian   La Petite Mort   Langour:heart:   Leanan Sidhe   Les Bijoux   Lune Noir:heart:(smells so much like shadow witch orchid!)   Mag Mell   Mantis   Marquise de Merteuil   Mara Hari   mead moon   Morgause   Moscow Mouse's Long and Sad Tale v5   Namaste   Night's Pavilion Nuit (disc)   O   Oberon   Ode on Melancholy   Oleander Honey   Ophelia (disc)   Ouija   Ozymandias   Pannychis (disc)   Peitho   Peony Moon   Phantom Queen (disc)   Philommeides   phoenix at dawn   Prague   Prospero (disc)   Queen Gertrude   Queen Mab (disc)   Rapture   Regan (disc)   Sea of Glass   Seraglio   Shadow Witch Orchid (disc)   Shadwell   Shoggoth   Silenti   Sin   Siren   Sleepy Moon   Snake Oil   Spectre (disc)   Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener   Succubus (disc)   Sudha Segara   Tamora   Terpsichore (disc)   The Apothecary   The Caterpillar   The Ghost   The Lady of Shalott   The :Lion The Night-Raven   The Raven   The Unicorn (disc)   The Witch Queen   The Vine   Tanuki Tisiphone (disc)   Titania   Titus Andronicus   Tristran   Urania (disc)   Utrennyaya (disc)   Vampire Tears   Velvet   Versailles   Victoria   Viola   Voodoo   Yuki-Onna (disc)

My Happy Day

In the bottle: Sweet and fizzy, if that makes sense. I'm not familiar with elemi, but I'm not picking up any of the other notes listed except for some jasmine. Right now, I'm a bit worried this will be stronger than what I'd usually wear.   On wet: "Effervescent" is definitely a key word. It's got that same sort of fizziness I got from Fizzy Jack O' Lantern, though I wouldn't say it smells like it. It's sweeter on skin than it was in the bottle, and I can smell the jasmine better now as well as some fruitiness. It reminds me of some sparkly alcoholic drink.   Dry: Still fizzy, still sweet. It's gotten softer. The vaguely boozy fizz prevents it from being a truly light scent, but this is actually very pretty. I would say jasmine as the most evident, followed by either the blackcurrant or plum...my nose is not yet refined enough to really pick out notes, I'm afraid. If I sniff long enough I'm pretty sure I can pick out the carnation.   Not something I might have taken home if I'd just tried it in passing, but I'm planning on hanging on to my bottle so far.

Unveiled

I sort of impulse-bought a bottle of Unveiled on the forum just based on the notes listed... NO REGRETS. NONE. I tried it yesterday and was in instant love, had to wear it today even though I have reams of things yet to try. It's a little fruity and fairly floral and a bit dark (maybe the myrrh? it's almost incense-y) and overall perfumey in the BEST way.

Book smell deathmatch (heh)

I've worn both Lurid Library and Philologus before, but not tested them against each other -- so tonight, I have Philologus on my left wrist and the Library on my right.   Library is coming out sweeter and more incense-y, but Philologus smells much more like old books to me.   Both are extremely agreeable in their own way and this is still not helping me decide which should have a place in the gridded part of my BPAL box that only holds 9 bottles.

The Heart's Gift

Would you rather have the generalized feeling that someone is thinking of you (sooooomewheeere oooout theeere...) or would you like to know, off the bat, who your swapper is? I'm not going to be too demanding on my heartwarmer. Whatever she (or he? did we get any dudes this round?) feels comfortable with is totally fine.   Also, you ladies and gents are speaking of rare things, if you could have one rare scent, what would it be? Antique Lace, probably. I was given a tester of it in a swap with a lovely, wonderful forumite, and fell deeply in love. I'm also incredibly curious about Skadi, but I've never tested or sniffed it. Also, Ozymandias! Come back soon, please …   Do you like graphic novels, and if so, what kinds? Comics and I have a complicated history. There was a period of about ten years where I really thought I wanted to write and draw comics. I still do, but I honestly don't think I have the work ethic to be a webcomic creator, and I also wouldn't want to give up creative control enough to go work for one of this big houses. I read a lot of manga as a teenager, but I've only kept hold of a couple of series: Clover, by CLAMP, Paradise Kiss by Ai Yazawa, and Sailor Moon (plus Supers, Stars, etc). I'm given to understand there's a new translation of Sailor Moon being published now that's more accurate, but I haven't looked at it much. As for western comics I scarcely know where to start. I've read some of the seminal storytelling works (Watchmen, The Sandman) but I haven't read a lot of superhero comics. I am always willing to read anything Neil Gaiman's had a hand in, and I really enjoyed Red Son even though I'm not a Supes fan. Batman was my favorite superhero as a kid, but these days it's Captain America on the strength of Jim Steranko's work on a few issues, plus the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick a couple years ago about Cap. It was so earnest and optimistic. I kind of love it.   Is there anything in the new Coraline update that you are wanting to try? Or even the past Lupers? I joined a decant circle and got the stuff I'm most curious about (The Cat), but I'm also interested in Coraline Jones and Miss Forcible after some speculation on the latter, and me kicking myself for not realizing "dried grass" might be "hay" in the former. D'oh! I also got a half-bottle of Ambergris but suspect this may not be enough. Peony Moon doesn't tickle me but I keep waffling about a shirt to go with the OLOP tee I plan on getting … but Puddin' said he was going to be putting more tees on Etsy soon so I may wait for that.   What fandoms, if any, do you have? TV shows, comics/books, movies, specific characters, that kind of thing? I mentioned in my questionnaire that I'm a My Little Pony fan, but I don't really consider myself a "brony" … mostly because I have certain issues with parts of the fandom. I suspect I'm being a little disingenuous, since I've written short essays about themes portrayed by one of the show's writer's across episodes, and I've designed no fewer than ten pony OCs for myself and various friends, but, y'know, there it is. Also, I have a favorite pony, which is Luna, so there's that.   I'm much more likely, however, to admit that I'm a Warhammer 40K fan. My boyfriend got me into the lore when we started dating a few years ago, and these days I know more about the state of the game and upcoming book releases than he does. My favorite writer for a long time was Dan Abnett — though I've never read any of his Gaunt's Ghosts series; seventeen books and climbing is pretty daunting — but he's been edged out as of this winter by the new hotness, John French. This is mostly on the strength of French's novel debut, Ahriman: Exile, which even mentioning makes me want to go and reread. I've read a few of French's short pieces scattered in the Horus Heresy collections, but he has a novella in Fateweaver I have not clapped eyes on. I do have a favorite primarch, and that's Rogal Dorn; the Imperial Fists are also my favorite loyal chapter. My favorite traitor legion is the Thousand Sons. I don't go in much for the xenos … the Eldar especially bore me to tears.   Oh, I also play World of Warcraft on an RP server and spend an inordinate chunk of brainpower thinking about my characters, so that's a thing, too. Then again, that's selfish fandom: I feel like the writing in WOW was never incredibly strong, but has gotten noticeably weaker over time. My boyfriend recently quit the game due to a lot of frustration about how they were handling certain events in lore, along with the heavy luck basis for advancement in a few key areas this last patch — he plays, or played, a warlock, and he wanted to do the special warlock-only quest for spell customization, but could never get the item that started the chain to drop. He also wasn't getting any tailoring patterns to make gear that was useful to him, so his progress felt a little throttled. All of which is a sidebar to kind of say the last time he and I got in a shouting match, someone eventually walked in and asked why we were yelling, and the answer was "Because we both agree that Blizzard can't write, but can't agree on how!" And then we all laughed and the situation — not that serious to begin with — was defused. =P I still really enjoy WOW from a gameplay aspect and from an RP one because even though the large-scale story is dumb, the smaller ones we eke out are still compelling.   I have a new question! What of the new pickman gallery scents are you interested in? Pickmans, Pickmans … I really sort of want to try My Mom With the Sun in Her Hands, Rapunzel in Ballpoint, Self Portrait with Puffy Stickers, Summoning Stone Play Structure, and [Redacted] Dragon. Decants will probably be fine, since I'm not sure how any of them will behave! The Dragon seems like he's destined for a scent locket with all that spice.   What's your favorite kind of cookie? As a lot of food/beer critics are fond of saying, "the one in front of me." I've never met a chocolate chip cookie I disliked, but I'm also fond of oatmeal raisin. This last Christmas I made cookies for a friend that may have been the most over-the-top thing I've ever baked: a cardamom/chai infused snickerdoodle with coconut white chocolate chunks and macadamia. How's that for gilding the lily! He loved them, though.   Do you like nail polish? If so what colors? I don't really do nail polish, though I kind of want to. For some reason I really want a metallic bronze, even though I just know it's all wrong for the season. Ditto gunmetal. ;D   What about bath products? I shower a lot more than I bathe, but I will use bath oils as moisturizer or for their intended purpose now and then. I actually haven't tried some of the big names around here (Villainess, Lush, etc) and would be amenable to some new soaps …   Let's talk about handmade things: knits, books, jewelry, food, art, tchochkes.. what sort of 'just for You' items are you interested in receiving? Or, are you not really a handmade kind of person? If you want to make me something, I'll love it! I have a pair of fingerless gloves from a circular swap I love, along with a scarf my witch made me one year that I definitely cherish, but it's getting on to summer in the Northern hemisphere, so I'm not sure what call i'll have to wear knits from now on. Jewelry, food, books, etc I will eat up, whether metaphorically or literally.   What are you yearning for from the C2E2 and/or Bats Day pre-date? Bat's day, bat's day … Greater Horseshoe Bat sounds so very me.   As for C2E2, Little Egypt also sounds about my speed.   What kind of music do you like to listen to? Would you want your heartwarmer to make you a mix CD? For any specific purpose? My tastes are somewhat varied, from David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails to King Crimson to Johnny Cash to Godspeed You! Black Emperor to The Aquabats. Lady Gaga is my guilty pleasure. I love getting mix CDs (or grooveshark playlists, etc) because I find some cool bands that way. I also would like some darkly atmospheric music with no English-language vocals (French/Italian/Latin would be ideal if any) that I can use as "mood music" for my Dark Heresy game. Large swaths of the playlist for that right now are NIN instrumentals and Eric Brosius compositions for System Shock, with special guest appearance by the Shepard–Risset glissando from Godspeed You! Black Emperor's "The Dead Flag Blues" and excerpts from Claude Vivier's "Orion." Also, Holst's Planets are actually plot-important in a way, so if you have particularly interesting recordings of those, I'm all about it.

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller

In the imp: I don't wear many dark oils, so I'm surprised at what a deep red color this is. It smells like a darker, heavier Snake Oil. I'm a big fan of Snake Oil, so I like this, but I hope there's something to set them apart on the skin.   On wet: There's definitely something sharper that sets this apart from S.O. I'm wondering if it's the patchouli leaf? I like this a lot, and I'll be disappointed if it changes much once it dries down. It starts turning sweet pretty quickly.   Dry: This still smells a lot like S.O., but it's smokier and I think I can pick up the sweetness from the plum, or maybe the pomegranate. It's definitely a fruity sweet. A few hours later it almost seems a little powdery on occasion, and the vanilla has gotten more prominent, but I'm still enjoying it. It's also earned me my second BPAL compliment ever from a coworker, who called it "soft and sweet." The imp is definitely a keeper, and I will certainly be picking up a bottle (or two) when the Carnaval comes back to town! I can't think of a better scent to associate with Beth.

Books, Books and more Books!

I've signed up for a book swap, and figured I'd put a bunch answers here for whomever ends up as my swappee I'll also try to update this post as new questions get asked.   Questions from the questionnaire: Allergies: None   Favorite Authors: Neil Gaiman, Sara Douglass, Jacqueline Carey, Melanie Rawn, Kate Mosse, George RR Martin, Stephen King, Kat Richardson   Least Favorite Authors: Charlaine Harris, Laruel K Hamilton   Favorite Genres: Science Fiction, Fantasy, Historical Fantasy   Least Favorite Genres: Romance, overly-religious   Favorite Snackies: popcorn, chocolate, pretzel chips, milk duds (or any chocolate & caramel combo), red vines   Least Favorite Snackies: black licorice, twizzlers, nuts   Is There Anything Else Your Partner Should Know? I'm far too picky with my non-fiction to try & tell you what I like & don't like. I'd be willing to do either ebooks (I read via the kindle app on my iphone) or physical books. There are a few books I have physical copies of that I wouldn't mind having in ebook format. Also, I'm good with gently-used books (or even older used books that may be out-of-print). I'm fairly well-read, and tend to not shy away from things; I've read (and own) some Anais Nin, Henry Miller, etc.   Links: Amazon Wishlist -- I do use this as a "I need to buy this later" kind of list, so you'll find more than books on it   GoodReads   Preferences:   There are some books I own physical copies of I wouldn't mind having in e-book format, for ease of transportation, otherwise I really don't have a preference between e-book or physical copy. I do prefer Kindle over iBooks, but other than that ....   Books I own to ebook: * Books 1-4 of the Song of Ice & Fire series (I own 'A Dance with Dragons' in ebooks) * Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel books (all 9 of them) * Melanie Rawn's Sunrunner series (all 6 books)

Shango

Before I'd even placed my first BPAL order I heard a rave review of this on a Popstuff podcast. Reading the scent description didn't convince me to order it, though, so I was pleased when I received it as a frimp.   In the imp: extremely fruity sweet, almost too sweet.   On wet: There was a pineapple soda I grew up drinking called Jupiña - that's a lot like what this smells like. It's making me feel a little nostalgic! I really, really like this. After a while it starts to grow a little more complex. I can pick up something like peppers now.   Dry: This is really impressive. I can see that tropical smoothie comparison that previous reviewers have made, but the spiciness of the pepper is there too. Throw is decent, but it starts to fade after a while. This is definitely going on the bottle list.

Moxie Nouveau Reviews

Sinter Klaus: (2/5) I cannot find a description for this anywhere on the net, but in the imp it smells like BPAL's Bliss, only not quite as potent. Same rich chocolate scent, and it has little oil bubbles of something very dark sitting at the bottom that I have to roll/stir to incorporate, maybe it's the chocolate component? Anyway, here's the rub: it turns to plasticky grossness on my skin.

Starring...Fragrances Perfume Reviews

America's Sweetheart: (2/5) Sniffing this wet on my skin I feel a mini panic attack of TOOOOOO SWEET I'M GONNA DIE. But just when it almost gets too intense, the green apple comes through and saves the day. I don't smell much 'pie', there is a vague note of baked-goods but it's mostly just apples and sugar as it dries down. It's almost too overpoweringly foody to be pleasant to me, sadly.   Caramel Apple Popped In: (2/5) I do not really get 'caramel' from this. The apple is there but there's something dizzyingly sweet overlaying it, more like a candied apple with a hint of cinnamon instead of caramel. I don't like this as much as America's Sweetheart, to be honest.   Child Star's Trick R Treat: (2/5) Another miss. I always thought I liked foodie perfumes but these are just a little too much for me. I definitely smell the pumpkin pie filling and something horribly sweet and piercing which must be the caramel; I don't get a pastry note until after it's dried down for a while.   Child Star at a Luau: (1/5) NOPE.jpeg Something in this smells like nail polish remover, I'm wondering if this is just really old and it's gone 'off'? All I smell is that and overbearing sweetness. I got all these bottles in a huge sale lot so at least I'm not out much money but I'm learning I probably won't ever end up ordering from this company. Just not my thing. Waaaaay too sweet (I didn't know that was possible for me, but there you go).

Solstice Scents Perfume Reviews

Flintlock: (5/5) Until further notice, anyone who wishes to date me will be required to wear this at all times. That is all.   Tenebrous Mist: (2/5) Basically, I made the mistake of thinking about the name too much + closing my eyes while sniffing it because I was instantly in a dark alley at midnight when a fog rolled in and I could distinctly sense long disembodied tentacles creeping up on me from behind. It does morph on my skin away from that scary scent-picture but not into anything I really like, a little odd and musky.

Lush Perfume Reviews

Here is what I think of all the Lush perfumes I've tried so far!   The Smell of Freedom: (5/5) I only got to use this once-- ordered a small vial and all but one drop of it had leaked out by the time it arrived. It meshed well with my chemistry, making me smell both fresh and mysterious. I went ahead and ordered the little spray-vial of it so I could try it again--here's hoping it doesn't leak in transit! Update: Got the 0.3 oz spray bottle of this and I'm in love (:-) Once I try the rest of the perfumes I will be buying the biggest bottle of this that I possibly can! Also bumping my rating of this up to full points because duh! ***BOTTLE WORTHY***   Tuca Tuca: (1/5) Disclaimer-- I'm already uneasy with violet and vanilla on their own, because sometimes they can trigger my migraines. Together? I'm sorry, I just can't with this. I valiantly tried wearing it for a day and all it made me feel was dizzy and a little nauseous. I gave the rest of my vial to a friend.   Lust: (4/5) Lush made me re-examine my relationship with jasmine. I used to hate it and find it kind of head-achey, but I really like this perfume; intoxicatingly floral. I wear it every day and it makes me feel secretly sexy. However, I do end up having to re-apply it after a few hours, it seems to wear off quickly, but all perfumes seem to wear off quickly on me.   Orange Blossom: (4/5) Oh wow. Such a wonderfully layered fragrance, like dipping orange segments into a bowl of pepper but way more enticing! I unfortunately had to reapply this a LOT because it faded rather quickly on me, but I wish I had purchased a medium size spray vial instead of the .07 oz sample vial. I will keep this in mind to buy more of later...   Imogen Rose: (2/5) Yeah...not really. I love sweet smells and rose smells but the baby powder really ruined this for me. I did get used to it after a while and ended up using the rest of the spray vial but I really thought for a day or so there that I was going to have to give this away. Just not the right perfume for me!   Breath of God: (3/5) Bought a spray vial of this unsmelled and you should have seen my face when I sprayed it on this morning. At first I was like :razzzzzzzeuch: all I could smell was the smoke, so much so that it reminded me of Cosmic Dreamcatcher and all I could think of were hippies that had just come back from a week long camping trip. But then I got to work and it had dried down, so then I was like :| hm...maybe this has more to it than I originally thought. 2 minutes later I started picking up on the mysterious incensy melon parts and honestly this would make a wonderful cologne for a sort of rugged older man! Only I'm a 25 year old woman...but I'm going to wear this anyway, so now I'm like *ahoy* (which is me being manly and rugged for the duration of me wearing this perfume).   Vanillary: (4/5) This really grew on me. I'm not a fan of super sweet vanilla scents and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this one is more of a grown-up, sophisticated, non-foody type of vanilla. It had decent throw on me, too, which I appreciate because I live in a very dry climate and I usually need to re-apply perfume every hour or so.   Karma: (3/5) Sadly this turns rather soapy on me immediately after I put it on. I do like this scent, though, so I'm glad I have the bubble bar and a chunk of the soap, it's just not a great perfume for me. This is another one that had to grow on me a bit, but now I've come to enjoy the darker, mysterious orangey scent of Karma.   25:43:(2/5) So, my nose is pretty dumb. Without glancing at the description, all I smelled in this was lilies, like fresh lily flowers, which I hate. Every time I'm in a room with a vase of lilies the sickening odor just gives me a headache immediately. Anyway, it turns out there ARE no lily notes in this perfume. The notes mostly say lemon cookies, which I could then smell after I read it. And the lily scent was gone after that, I smelled the lemon cookies from then on out. Where the heck did I get lilies from? Weird. Anyway, I doubt I'll buy this again, it was alright but not bottle-worthy.   Dirty: (3/5) I thought I'd like this as a perfume a LOT more, but I think I should stick to the soap and shower gel. Something about it didn't mesh well with my skin chemistry and all I could smell was the mint/a soapy note.   Ginger: (1/5) My god. What on earth is going on here? The website lists the notes as ginger, mimosa, geranium, rose, ylang ylang and jasmine but I smell NONE of that! This is just straight-up powder and White Diamonds perfume (so to me it smells just like the stereotypical 'old lady' scent). It stays that way on my skin, too, sadly. Ugh. Trying to use this up as fast as I can so I can get to the next perfume (I'm OCD like that). Reaaaaally regretting having ordered the 0.3 oz spray vial.   Icon: (4/5) This has been an interesting journey--in the bottle it was mildly pleasant with something darker and ominous. Wet on my skin I almost passed out--all I could smell was this gross licorice/sassafras(?) overtone that I was worried was going to ruin everything. Then once it dried down, happily, that licorice/whatever note went away and I became addicted to sniffing my wrist every minute or so; this is such a subtle indescribably pleasing scent. I get faint tasteful floral parts mixed with something deliciously darker (must be the myrhh and bergamot). I think I read somewhere that Icon is an interpretation of the way the color purple smells? I would have to agree. This is not quite large-bottle worthy for me but it is close and I know I'm going to enjoy using the rest of this spray vial.   Ladyboy: (4/5) Well now! I say! This is unique. And yes I mostly smell banana even though apparently it's not one of the scents they used to create it. So I guess when you mix violet and oakmoss it smells like banana. I like this quite a bit, maybe more than Icon even! Too bad it doesn't last quite as long on me but I'm totally addicted to its wet stage on my skin, I instantly feel sexy-modern-tropical vibes.
