Questions through 9/23/11

Is there anything you'd like from the Mütter Museum Store? I liked my decant of U, but have never gotten a bottle, so that would be much appreciated. Otherwise I like the string keychains.   I just noticed that Cocoa Pink has 5 ml Perfume Atomizers. Yay or nay? Scents you would like? Scents you would NOT like? I love Cocoa Pink! I’m not a huge fan of the 5 ml Atomizers, because I use them up in a day. I really like the linen sprays right now. They work great as body sprays and in hair, too. I would love any of the scents you picked, with the exception of the ones that contain any kind of milk (rice, coconut, it all turns nasty sour). I’ve also just gotten both of the Halloween sets so I wouldn’t need those.   what's your favorite kind of pizza? Thin crust, very little sauce extra cheese Canadian bacon.   who are your style/fashion icons? post pics if you want! I have no style. At home I’m almost always in sweats and work I wear dress pants and a sweater. My style icon is probably Betty White.   Are there any food items you're craving/aren't able to find around your area? Can’t think of any.   If you're interested in a handmade pouch/cover for an item you have (phones, tablets, books, keys, kettles...), what would your ideal pouch/cover have? Color, style, texture, length? They would get no love from me. I’m always cold, so I wear sweater or sweatshirts with long sleeves 90% of the time. They would be impractical in the same way that fingerless gloves would be.   Do you like tarts? tealights? jar candles? votives? I LOVE tarts!! And jar candles! I don’t have much use for votives and I have a stash of 10 of those 100 tealights in a bag (I found a really good sale) so I think I’m set there.   What's your favorite flavor? Sour, sweet, bitter, salty? I like sour (especially citrus), and sweet and salty, but please no bitter. Either, I wouldn’t want short and fat or a skinny one, because I’m not sure how I’d wear one like that. I love all sorts of scarves and wear them at work as well as outside to keep warm. I would not like a poncho. My mother dressed me in one in the mid ‘70’s and I’m still slightly scared from the experience.   If you have a pet, could you please post a photo of it? I would trust you to pick.   if you could have a salon scent made, based on any artwork(s) what would it be? I’m having a lot of trouble with this one. I like all sorts of different art, but I suck at combining notes together. The scent of Falling Leaf Moon reminds me so much of the picture that I have in my dining room (I posted that in thread I think), and I love both the scent and the picture.   Are you scientifically curious and/or process-oriented? Would you like a project-type gift that allowed you do do something like make soap from scratch, take and (nontoxic-ly) develop photographs using a pinhole camera, use plant dyes on yarn or fabric, etc.? I would never consider myself scientifically curious, but some of the things on that list sound interesting. I would love to try making soap and scrubs and things like that. And the idea of dying fabric sounds super cool, but what would I do with it after I had dyed it?   What's 'your' song/your theme song? Billy Joel, You May be Right   What would be your superpower? They're kinda one of my favorite things ever, and they're animal-friendly and the handles are bamboo. And to top it all off, they work really well for applying makeup. Sure. I could always use more brushes. Especially eye brushes.   Do you like Legos? Especially mini-fig key chains, Lego block keychains, small Lego sets, etc? No thanks.   Since the previous question about "what would you buy from the Lab if you had unlimited funds, etc" left WAY too much to the imagination with no limitations (my answer was pretty much BUY ALL THE THINGS!), what would you do if you found a $50 bill on the ground and a nagging voice in the back of your mind told you that you HAD to spend it on BPAL or else face Death. Also, say they had free shipping (LOL) so don't factor that in. What would you get? And spend it all! Or as close to $50 as you can get. I’m not good at this either. How would you feel about kitchen towels and other similar household objects, if they are pretty or a souvenir? I'm not at a permanent address right now, so things like that would be better for a later round.   How did you dress up for your last party or compulsory-formal-dress occasion? A rainbow-coloured floor-length backless silk dress with tiny rhinestones, golden hand bindis, and a giant pink hairbow. No, really.   Do you enjoy puzzles/riddles? (Cryptograms, Sudoku, Crossword, Jigsaw, etc) Yes, I quite like crosswords.   Can you sum yourself (whether it be personality, life's goals, ethics, whatever) in 10 words or less? Sure. I am fond of the thrift. Do you mind lightly used goods? Please be specific! For instance, I'm a little squicked by used clothing, but I don't mind any other used goods (i.e. books, glassware, games, DVDs, whatever.) I think the only thing I wouldn't buy secondhand is underwear. Please feel free   Do you have an Etsy shop? Do you know of any Etsy shops that are Switch Witch friendly? No and not off the top of my head.   Would a gift or a postcard from Disneyland make you squee with delight or puke into your mail box? I grew up two hours from Orlando so.... no, sorry!   what are your favorite types of Halloween candy? Candy corn, mini candy bars, licorice all sorts   Do you prefer soap or shower gel? Please give examples of your favorite scents or brands. I use both. For shower gels I like Goth Rosary's Fairy Wings and Samhain. For soap I like Lush (but I can buy those here). I'm open to enabling - I've never tried Moona Lisa or Haus of Gloi and I keep hearing good things about them. How do you like your chocolate? For example with nuts, mint, peanut butter, caramel? Caramel, mint, sea salt, chai, nuts, peanut butter (but not actual peanuts), odd boutique flavours like lavender and thyme.   Beads! Do you use them? Would you want some? 10th September questions

September 10th   What #1 actor, director, author and/or musician are you obsessed with? Well, saying that I'm 'obsessed with' a celebrity makes me feel about 12, but...I really like Joss Whedon's series, though I'm caught up with everything except the Serenity film and the last season of Angel; I also love Sarah Michelle Gellar in her Buffy character. I really, really dig David Tennant in Doctor Who (I have a thing for goofy geeky Englishmen) and would be interested in seeing what else he's done, I think. Bruce Campbell's always fun. are you interested in anything from the Villainness Bad Apples update? Discord, Just Right, and Twistappel sound really good. I haven't ordered anything from Villainess in aaaages but I love their body butters. Not a fan of the scrubs. If you have a pet, would he/she/they like to receive a treat or a toy as a gift? Does your pet have any dietary restrictions or other preferences w.r.t. said treat? No dietary restrictions for my cat, and she'd probably love soft chewable treats like Pounce! The cat treats here are weird and disappointing. What are your top three "I want to try them but I think I'll never get to try them" (or, "I've tried them and I want moar moar moar, but I don't think I'll ever get any") scents/bath oils/sprays? As a rule I don't chase impossible-to-find LEs so there aren't any that I think I'll 'never' get to try. Pumpkin Queen is 'the one that got away' - I had a bottle, loved it, gifted it to a boyfriend, and then the bastard cheated on me and broke my heart. Three years later the Pumpkin Queen is definitely what I mourn the most! Is there a particular artist and piece that you would like a print of? If so, what is your max size that you could spare on your walls? I find Karen Davis's work really pretty. I'm also always up for photographic prints of gorgeous English (Welsh, Irish) countryside or bluebell woods. I have ample wall space but anything non-consumable that you send will someday have to be packed up in my luggage when I get out of here, so....not massive!   If you are in to beauty and makeup related stuff, what kind of stuff do you like? What is your skintone and hair color? Are there any beauty products you've wanted to try but just never purchase? Skintone: pinky-fair, hair: golden-reddish brown. I like body scrubs. I can always use body lotion, either light or heavy. I used to use leave-in hair conditioner from Goth Rosary and miss it because it was pretty good. My hair is very curly and generally dry so super-moisturising treatments for it are great. Makeup-wise, I like sparly shadows from Fyrinnae, like the city lights collection.   Do you like coffee or tea? Would you be interested in trying some different types? I have mentioned elsewhere my love of Teeccino herbal coffee and Zhena's Gypsy Tea's coconut chai, I think. No caffeinated coffee, please, as I'm not taking coffee anymore. I don't mind some caffeinated black teas, though. Chai tea is always good!   Are there any CDs/Albums you've been wanting but haven't bought yet? What format do you prefer? (i.e. mp3, actual cd, record, etc) Honestly, nothing springs to mind, but I'm open to enabling with new music. Fun 80s girl pop would be a welcome addition, I think And I do mp3s.   Are you going away for any part of this round? No   Would you like to receive a mix-CD from your Witch? Sure!   If your witch were going somewhere on a vacation during the round, would you want a little souvenir? Sure!   Do you enjoy any outdoor activities? Do you have a favorite form of "exercise"? Outdoor activities - not really, apart from wandering through the parks (it's a giant pain in the ass to get out of the city and into the countryside here). I do yoga.   Any witchee's with a ravelry account have any favourited patterns that cost money that would be a welcome gift? I don't think so....but feel free to surprise me with patterns   Do you work/study at a desk and enjoy interesting or cute office supplies? I'm a teacher, so yes. More Help!

September 26th   Is there any kind of international candy you love or would like to try? I'm always up for trying anything, heh.   What is something totally random (yes, that thing that just popped into your head) that hasn't been covered by any previous questions? Random thought, I am lately extremely fascinated by spiders, they are just amazing, the way they move, the way they spin their web. I love orb spiders the most because they are very beautiful with their markings (I have a collection in my apartment, they move in as it gets colder. Sadly the pets will probably eat them before too long)   Also, anything to do with knitting lace. I am enjoying it throughly but I don't have anything to block with (or on) and I usually just use some towels and some straight pins. Or something that winds balls of yarn, I do it by hand but man, if there was a small machine that could help (even if my witch just tells me about it) it would be amazing!   Small mason jars with lids for spices!   Is there any cheesy/non-cheesy Canadian stuff you'd be interested in? Canadian, no need   If you were to go here and create your very own chocolate bar, what might it have in it? I'd go for Blueberries and basil in milk or dark chocolate, or coconut and curry (maybe add cashews and mango, maybe not) in milk, or orange, cinnamon and cardamom in dark, or Dried cherries and almonds in dark, or pine nuts and lavender in dark, or seasalt and cayenne pepper in milk. Oh man that site is amazing!   September 25th   Stuff you've been meaning to do: Too much, get frames for my prints that I have to hang, get new book shelves (and figure where to put them) go through books and clothes to get rid of what I don't need/want any longer, write a list of spices that I like/use on a regular basis and get jars for them, and then get spices from a reputable source online, get some cook books and make a binder of my favourites for easy meal planning, declutter apartment... The list go on and on and on...   Would you be interested in regional jams, jellies, or other preserves? Of course! I really like Marmalades and jellies, though jams are awesome too!   Do you have any bedtime rituals? Is there any particular product you have to apply or a certain shirt you wear or an act you perform to get you in the "bedtime" mood? Usually I make the bed (yea at night lol!) and if it's already made I just jump in. I also have to use the washroom and take my night time pill (I have a morning and a night time pill) and then dick around on my phone for a few, or chat with Q, he usually "tucks" me in, which basically consists of him sitting on the edge of the bed either talking to me or horsing around with the dog. That's about it.   Are you interested in today's/any recent Tee Fury shirts? I like them, and have one (the Our Lady of Sunnydale Buffy shirt) but I can be picky about my shirts.   Princess Bride? Yay or nay? Love it! I got a copy of the book last round from my witch and I still have to read the bloody thing...   What's your favorite classic fairytale, witches I really like the Snow Queen, though I'm not sure if I'd say it's my favourite. I really like Beauty and the Beast, and the one about the swan... Uh, the name escapes me....   September 24th   how do you feel about ethical animal fiber, i.e. wool and the like? Sure   What about little wee creatures for your desk or mantel? Oddly enough those remind me of those mice that Steve Carell made in that movie, uh, dinner for shmucks! So those things kinda creep me out... just a bit...   Look down. What are you wearing, right now? A tank top and unders, I take my pants off when I get home and didn't feel like putting anything else on.   Kerchiefs? (they are all reasonably priced of course! ~$20 or less apiece). What are they? Answered in thread as follows: 1) The practical answer: Tights. Black or subtle patterns (work appropriate). Warm is a bonus. (Size small or a/b or whatever.) (I will be buying these for myself, but I can never have too many pairs. I wear skirts about 2 days out of 5 in the winter and I always wear tights with them.) 2) The obvious answer: Bar soap. I don't care where it's from as long as it smells nice. (There is nothing I use up faster than bar soap.) 3) ??? I'm having trouble coming up with a third thing. Something beautiful or tasty? Jewelry? A scarf? A print? Some tea? Hot cocoa? Caramels? Much more so than it should be. For work: I prefer a bag large enough to hold all my usual purse stuff PLUS my 15" MacBookPro PLUS a decent sized tupperware container (for my lunch) PLUS a pair of shoes. Right now I am carrying Queen Bee Bags market tote which, sadly, seems to be a discontinued style. It's probably about the size of a Trucker but rather than having a messenger bag flap the top is open (closes with two snaps) and has like their fabric totes (which seem to be a bit larger. It's bright red vinyl with an adorable blue and green vine design. I <3 it. The only drawback is that because the top stays open, it's vulnerable to rain. Also, the handles are a wee bit too short when I wear my big winter pea coat. I have determined that I do like a tote style better than a messenger because I find the flaps on a messenger to be a pain. However, I do like the messenger style straps. Why does no one make a tote with a cross-body strap?   For everyday: I prefer a smaller bag (no computer or shoes to log around!), but one that is still big enough for: My pocket book (the blast bird in jade/orange), a travel umbrella, and my kindle and/or a decent sized book plus random crap. Currently, I carry an old Victorinox black bag which is an earlier (like 6+ years old) version of the Teardrop Monosling. It is the most functional bag I have ever owned and will probably out-live me. The biggest drawback is that it is just not cute. (Also, I kind of wish the strap was designed so that the bag was carried at the hip rather than behind me. It's a pain to have to drag it around every time I want in it. If it carried at the hip, I could get in and out of it without having to take it off or pull it around and strangle myself.)   In general things that get a bag bonus points for me: Bright colors; Subtle, cheeky or non-twee patterns; washable; the ability to be carried cross body OR over the shoulder; padded or ergonomic straps (but by adjusting the strap -- two sets of straps is ugly); an easily reachable pocket for my cell phone and keys (the Victorinox WINS at this with the cell phone pouch on the strap); at least one zipper pocket; being water proof/resistant or having at least one such pocket.   julep maven monthly boxes: I do not know what this is.   Your favorite restaurant or type of food to eat out. From the bottom up: Black Naturalizer flat MaryJanes; black argyle socks, black and white houndstooth plaid slacks, a black drapey necked long sleeved shirt (old, from Banana Republic but looks a lot like this with a slightly higher neckline), a charcoal grey wool overshirt from Eileen Fisher (can't find a picture, but it's styled like a classic button down shirt, but made from lightweight merino suiting material so it's clearly a casual jacket-like piece), and red blood drop earrings from Elements and Artifacts.   Kerchiefs? They look cool, but would undoubtedly slide out of my hair like everything else does. A stocking cap works better because I can rug it down.   It's the weekend, and you find yourself without a single chore or responsibility for a few hours. Right this very moment, what's the one thing you would do if you could do anything? SW Fall 2011, (some) questions from 9/22

So, are there any online gaming witchees who covet purchasable in-game items or other gamer-y stuff? (yup, geek question)   Nope! I don't play any online games right now.   What is your favorite coffee blend at Starbucks? If you don't have one, what is your favorite roast of coffee?   I don't really do Starbucks unless we're on a road trip or something and there's no other option. Coffee is one thing that I absolutely try to buy fair trade-- it's a treat and not a necessity (no matter what I may tell myself sometimes) and I'll go a bit out of my way/pay a bit more to make it as non-exploitative of a treat as possible.   Phew.   Anyway, beyond that? I'm not too choosy. I like darker roasts more than light roasts, and am trying to avoid things that promise to be extra caffeine-y (is that a thing anywhere but here? we have a local place that sells this roast they call "rocket fuel" which is touted as being whooooa so much caffeine).   If you have local roasters, I would be SO interested in trying what they have! It is cold and often somewhat wet-- and only going to get colder and wetter as the year moves on. I am dying for a pair of fingerless/half-finger gloves/arm warmers. They need to be able to withstand getting wet (so maybe wool is a good choice here?), not be itchy, and be warm but not so heavy that I can't move my hands in them. I don't care that much about color (see above) but something that shows dirt less would probably be good because... I would probably wear the hell out of them. Maybe fall colors?   Anyway, if you're interested in buying or making arm/hand warmers for me, please go for it! It's something I will probably get around to eventually myself but, you know...   Question: Do you like tarts? tealights? jar candles? votives?   Think this is a repeat too. I pretty much don't burn candles and don't do tarts either. About the only room in my house where I'd want to smell anything other than the room itself is... the bathroom? This is not great, because unimportant items end up in there too and it's a mess. A small pouch that would fit inside the zipper pocket would be cool. It's a normal ol' Jansport backpack, I'm guessing the pocket size to be... 6x5? Something 6x5 or smaller would definitely fit in it anyway.   Something that won't show dirt too terribly (because again, I would use the hell out of this and cram it into my bag and whatnot) would be good for fabric, beyond that, no big preference...   Haunt?   Last time (or maybe the time before?) that I played SW, I REALLY wanted to try Haunt's glossing oils. Then I kind of forgot about them until recently... I remembered that they had golden pumpkin glossing oil (years ago) and kept trying to do a google search on that and not coming up with the right thing.   So I was happy to rediscover them. While I've never ordered any of their stuff, a lot of it really makes me drool... more or less all the glossing oils, the Lady Grey especially. Would love to try some of their stuff.

Some questions that I missed in the SW thread

Are you interested in anything from the Villainness Bad Apples update? I just ordered from there for my witchee and resisted all of the new ones. I'm not much for apples but proscription sounds interesting.   If you have a pet, would he/she/they like to receive a treat or a toy as a gift? Does your pet have any dietary restrictions or other preferences w.r.t. said treat? Kitty is pretty happy as is. He does not get treats, he does not wear clothes. He is loved but he is a cat.   If you are in to beauty and makeup related stuff, what kind of stuff do you like? What is your skintone and hair color? Are there any beauty products you've wanted to try but just never purchase? I refuse to wear makeup besides nail polish. I think I might have already answered this one. But I just want to state it again, no makeup, please!   If your witch were going somewhere on a vacation during the round, would you want a little souvenir? I love smooshed pennies. I get them everywhere I go. If you see some and would like to get me one, I would be delighted. I would also appreciate a post card but I'm not interested in anything bigger than those two, unless it just screams me!     Do you prefer soap or shower gel? Please give examples of your favorite scents or brands. SOAP. Shower gel usually gives me a rash. I like villainess, BPTP, and any cold process soap. Most melt and pour gives me a rash. My tongue could use some new stuff, but I have tons and just haven't changed it in . . . 5 years. 0.0 I'd say go for plugs if you're going to get my piercing jewelry. Would you like a project-type gift that allowed you do do something like make soap from scratch, take and (nontoxic-ly) develop photographs using a pinhole camera, use plant dyes on yarn or fabric, etc.? Living in a large, Georgian-style mansion with a live-in maid and cook, an on-call hairstylist (lord knows I can't do my own hair), furniture that is both beautiful AND comfortable, and the time to nestle down in bed with my fiance and our pets and some good books.   How did you dress up for your last party or compulsory-formal-dress occasion? This isn't my favorite picture, but it shows the shoes! Dress is Liberty of London for Target, and the shoes are from Shoedazzle. I ADORE Liberty of London. Such fun patterns! Um, I'm not sure what is meant by photo collage. If it's small, then yes! If it's big, then no.   If you're crafty, are you interested in spoonfeather? And if so, what things there delight your eyes? I do not know what this spoonfeather is.   What is your favorite word? I'm a fan of "clutter." It sounds to me like a bunch of stuff falling on the floor, which is sort of what clutter is like. Also, "graceless." Umm, those are if we're going by the way it sounds.   What are the feelings on arm warmers? Color, style, texture, length? I have never owned any before but my arms always get cold!   Do you like tarts? tealights? jar candles? votives? No on all of those - those are more the fiance's thing.   So, are there any online gaming witchees who covet purchasable in-game items or other gamer-y stuff? (yup, geek question) Well, my feelings about the Sims franchise is that I MUST OWN ALL THE THINGS, but my computer with Sims 3 on it is not currently connected to the internet, due to there not being a hardline run to the room it's in and the wifi card not being able to pick up the signal. Though my laptop, which is at the same desk, can get wifi just fine. So I guess though there's stuff I do want, I don't know how I would get it to my computer until we have the contractor come out and run a cable from the other room to the office.   Anyone doing anything cool for Mabon (or the start of fall, if you aren't pagan?) Well, this isn't cool, but I have seasonal affective disorder so every start of fall I get ragingly depressed. And stay that way until summer. But don't worry! I have had this well over half of my life and have found the correct combination of medication and therapy and stuff to make it manageable.   What is your favorite coffee blend at Starbucks? If you don't have one, what is your favorite roast of coffee? I do not like coffee.   Is there anything you'd like from the Mütter Museum Store? OMG CREEPY SCARY OMG HALP. Pajamas - a Mickey Mouse shirt that my friend gave me for my 6th birthday, and some A&F navy striped pajama pants I've had since I was 15. Umm, I don't really ever use those things, except one time I bought bacon jam from the internet, and that was AWESOME.   Do you have any bedtime rituals? Is there any particular product you have to apply or a certain shirt you wear or an act you perform to get you in the "bedtime" mood? Well, if by "bedtime mood" you mean going to sleep, then yes - I usually wash my face with either cold cream or Villainess Datura Slick (if I wash it with regular facewash before going to sleep it gets too dry, so I use that in the morning and oil or cold cream at night), put on Paula Begoun's 1% BHA gel, brush my hair, get into pajamas, make sure the bunny has enough hay/food/water and has been let out for the night (and, correspondingly, that all important papers and wires have been put onto high shelves so she can't get to them), check the computer one last time (usually while holding the bunny), then go do a running, flying leap onto my fiance in bed! And then read until I fall asleep.   Are you interested in today's/any recent Tee Fury shirts? There are sometimes ones that I like, though I don't think I've bought any though. I have a couple of Shirt.Woot shirts though - for instance this one.   Princess Bride? Yay or nay? YAY.   Is there any cheesy/non-cheesy Canadian stuff you'd be interested in? Umm, one time my parents brought me these maple sugar candies in the shape of Canada leaves (maple leaves? you know, the one on the flag). They were delicious. Should I be eating them? I feel I identify most with Hestia or Hera, but of course those goddesses don't have demigod children! So probably Hermes or Athena, with a slight possibility of Apollo. It's funny, it's way easier to do this for other people! My brother would definitely be claimed by Hephaestus, my mother by Demeter, my father by Apollo.   What level of contact were you hoping for from your witch? Any! If you do not contact me again until the end of the round package, that is okay. If you contact me every single day through the end of the round, that is also okay (though maybe a bit overwhelming, since I can't always run to thank you for the ecard in the thread immediately, and then I sit through classes/sports games/whatever feeling guilty that I haven't yet). Anything in between is also okay. Whatever you have the time and inclination for! I know just reading my answers to these questions probably takes up much of your SW time allotment.   Sooooo Witchees, have you ever taken that particular personality test? If so, are you an Analytical, a Driver, an Expressive or an Amiable? It says I am Expressive. I don't know about that, I think maybe Analytical fits me better? But a lot of the things in the checkboxes for analytical are just not possible in my work environment. On Meyers-Briggs, I am right on the line between INTJ and ENTJ, and it can go either way depending on how I feel right then. How other people see me depends on whether they think I'm talking because I'm outgoing or know that I'm talking because I'm a nervous chatter.   If you had to decide what your stripper name was, what would it be? Frisky Tyler. *cries*   Babylon 5 I have never gotten into it (scifi blasphemy, I know!). I tried watching it on Hulu a couple of times but I never found it compelling enough to continue. I like pretty much every other major scifi tv show.   What's your favorite classic fairytale? A FAVORITE? I have no idea. Pretty much everything from Grimm's! My fiance says I have horrible, terrible versions of fairy tales stuck in my head, but they're the real ones! I also love art for them - it's always so magical.   Stuff you've been meaning to do: Study. Midterms are NOW and I should have finished all my readings, but I have not.   Colors! I have a tiny pink cat that was supposed to bring me luck in love, and a tiny green owl that is supposed to bring me good fortune in work. They're super-cute, and I can be kind of superstitious sometimes.   reusable bags? I have many, many reusable grocery bags. I could ALWAYS use more canvas tote bags though!   What kind of purse do you prefer? Leather, cloth? over the shoulder or crossbody, or something that can do either? Do you like bold bright prints with fun things, or monochrome, solid colours? Leather, over the shoulder (or crossbody, though I haven't had one of those in ages), not too big (but big enough for wallet, hairbrush, paperback book, and random stuff), and in a solid, bright color (NOT YELLOW). I MUST have a pocket on the outside for my iphone and one for my ID card for school (it lets me into parking garages), and they must be easily accessible. It's always nice to have an outside pocket in which to shove random bits of paper people give me, or pens or whatever. Inside, there should be a zip pocket for feminine supplies, and then it's helpful to have pockets for pens or lipstick or whatever. That sounds crazy picky, haha. I use my purses for one to two years. I do not like purses with the brand name or sign splashed all over them. Like, little danglies on the zipper pulls, sure, I'll give you that. But anywhere else on the outside other than maybe a very small thing? No.   I like Fossil pretty much always (even their cloth purses - I used to only use Fossil cloth purses for a long time). My purse from last year was a purple Cole Haan. My current purse is a seafoam Adrienne Vittadini - and I will never be buying this brand again. The strap has broken and the leather has excessive wear & tear. I love the shape and color, but the quality leaves a lot to be desired. Usually I buy my purses at the Dillard's sale. I don't think I could stand to pay full price for one of those things.   Oh! I have been wanting one of those wristlet clutch things for a while. I don't go out dancing or whatever much really, but when I do, it's annoying to not have one of those cute little cute things to put my stuff in. I ALWAYS need lint rollers - my rabbit's fur is too fine for any animal brush I've found to pick it up, so when she's shedding, brushing does very little good and I have to lint roll her. Of the trios, I like hardcore brown and hardcore blue. Of the blushes, I like Touch Me and Nerdgasm, of the lipsticks, Back to the Fuschia. A Budget thing I LOVE is stuff from the $1 bins at Michaels craft store - they have beautiful notecards, bookmarks, and other things like that, that you'd never expect to find at those prices (and I'm a sucker for notecards, even though I rarely send letters!). Earlier this week I went CRAZY there buying the vintagey notecards. They also currently have Christmas ornaments. I also like headbands from the $1 bin at Target, and headbands/other hair accessories/necklaces from Forever 21. Also I love places like Tuesday Morning, Kohls, etc, for accessories and clothes and things - they have FANTASTIC stuff at low prices. Oh, and Sinful Colors nail polish - it's usually a dollar or two and has fun colors, but I only own two! I can't think of anything free - I suspect if it was free, I'd have already gotten it! (Though, of course, recommendations for books that are free and good - either that are free on kindle or available through project gutenberg or whatever are always loved. One time someone let me know LM Montgomery's The Blue Castle was on Project Gutenberg, and that made me a gleeful Distracts for quite a while. Also, of course, music and movie recommendations. Though I feel like they're less likely to be free than books, and free books are something I can read immediately.)   Also on the subject of something I use every day - I have been using the Yes To Cucumbers makeup removing towelettes recently. I used to never take my makeup off at night and ever since getting these as a bonus in a drugstore.com order, I've been using them. SO much easier than actually washing my face with water and stuff at night!   Also also, I have a wedding coming up if I ever stop being too lazy to plan it. I am sending my witchee 3 big boxes, and if you look in the pirate and crooked crafting swap threads you can see what I sent and what I received. I think I'm expecting SW to be more stuff total, because it's longer and not constrained by the theme, and also from looking at the IGI thread. But also I'm easy to please. And really have no idea what to expect because I've never done SW before or even watched it going on before, though I was vaguely aware it was a thing. And I know witches vary in what sort of time and resources they have to devote to their witchees.   How do you feel about loose leaf tea in baggies? I mean, I have a TON of loose leaf, would it be okay if I send you samples in some zip lock baggies? Or is that something that would squick you out? Haha, I am absolutely okay with it, as long as it's clearly labeled as to what it is, including the brand, so I would be able to find more if I love it!   How would you feel about getting a custom poster with your favorite quote on it and some cool graphics? I'm an architecture student and can print posters (provided I make them) at pretty much any size using Adobe Illustrator at a low price. Also if you would be interested in this, what quotes would you like? That would be so cool!   What favorite song(s) would you think would translate into a cool or unique scent? Al Green - Love and Happiness - I imagine this smelling kind of like Banshee Beat. Huge SW Question and Answer - Part 1

A question! If you are crafty, what's your personal art style? I'm not talking just about what art you like to look at, but what kind of art do you like creating? Do you have a "process" while you're creating beauty? Um . . . ? As it regards knitting, I tend to obsess. To explain - I'm prepping to start working on a new project, a crescent-shaped shawl similar to this one. I've been picking out the yarn for about a week now, and I stayed up until 2 AM last night, making certain that I had the necessary techniques down. I have an idea of how I want the end product - a bright slash of flame colors, vibrant red beads and the feel of silk and cashmere - but beyond a general feel, I don't have the specifics.   Are there any characters that you love or identify with? Yes, yes I do!   Since the previous question about "what would you buy from the Lab if you had unlimited funds, etc" left WAY too much to the imagination with no limitations (my answer was pretty much BUY ALL THE THINGS!), what would you do if you found a $50 bill on the ground and a nagging voice in the back of your mind told you that you HAD to spend it on BPAL or else face Death. Also, say they had free shipping (LOL) so don't factor that in. What would you get? And spend it all! Or as close to $50 as you can get. Hmmm . . . Kill-Devil - 17.50 Baobhan Sith - 17.50 A Picnic in Arkham T-Shirt - 15   Of course, I'd have to mug some poor passerby for shipping and handling money, but it'd be totally worth it.   What are some of your favorite paintings? (famous or undiscovered?) Feel free to link to examples! I . . . . wow, that'll take a while. The short version is I like The Grand Canal by Joseph Turner, Adventurers by Norman Rockwell, the Accolade by Edmund Blair Leighton and a whole lotta stuff on DevArt.   If you could have an image painted for you - sky is the limit - what would it be? *grin* I already answered this question - I'd have art done of my characters. That, or a formal (and slightly fey) portrait done of myself and the boyfriend.   Darling Witchee, would you enjoy farmer's market pickled veggies (green beans, garlic, asparagus, etc) or fresh canned peaches or something of that nature? I would be all over that. Pickles and olives are good, garlic would be nifty, asparagus would go sad and unloved (so would green beans, I'm sorry to say.)   Canned fruit, of any variety, would be glorious. As would fruit butters - I really, really like apple/pumpkin butter.   Do you prefer color or white photographs? Nature or abstract? Color, though specific-color prints can be nifty - I have a really cool black and white picture of a flower, with a single piece of color. Nature prints are preferable to abstract, as I go nuts trying to figure out what the abstract piece 'is'.   Would you be interested in getting fountain pen inks or art supplies via JetPens and or DickBlick? (I know I have a wishlist on JetPens and just love using fountain pens in my artwork.) Pencils and pens are all kinds of useful to me, and fountains pens are fun. Also! Multipens! (My boyfriend gets so cranky when I make off with his favorite pens. I mean, I give them back . . . when I can find them. Which isn't often.)   How would you feel about getting a palette filled with paint from my watercolor tubes but not getting the paint tube itself? How do you feel about getting art supplies in general? (copic markers, watercolor, brushes, paint, sketchbooks etc.) I am . . . artistically-challenged, sadly. I'd be appreciative, but unable to give them a loving home.   -How do you feel about Threadless tshirts? I poked through the site - most of it didn't really appeal to me, but a couple of the shirts were cute. Jinx and ThinkGeek are more my style, really.   If you were turned loose in a basic drug store (CVS, Walgreens - a pharmacy with attached mini-mart, basically!) with a $20 bill, what would you pick up? I'd probably end up with a Reese's Pieces bar (for the boyfriend), a pack of sugarfree, minty gum (for me), a tube of Burt's Bees lotion and some mechanical pencils. If I had a dollar or two left over, I'd grab a paper folder or a skinny binder. (I've found that stuffing knitting patterns into my purse results in wadded-up, unreadable patterns. Folders make me a much happier knitter.)     Dear witchee, how do you feel about lip balm? Favorite style (twist up tube, pot, tube with wand, etc.)? Favorite flavors? Flavors to avoid? Favorite brand? Do you need more right now or are you set? Are you one of those people who could never have enough lip balm even though you have a bowl on your dresser overflowing with them and 10 in your purse and an order for more on the way? *deep inhale* I like lipbalm. I like tubes with wands, squeeze tubes and pots, in roughly that order. I live in a very hot place, so twist-up tubes tend to melt upside down, then be useless.   I like mint, vanilla, chocolate and pumpkin. Not so much on the cherry flavor of lip balm, though I'm generally a fan of cherries. Also, the menthol-y, tingly kinds of lip balm are awesome.   As for brands - on the pricy side, I like Philosophy's lip gloss. Their Caramel Apple and Cinnamon Buns are good, and although I haven't tried them, the I Love Candy Corn and Sugar Sprinkles Funnel Cake looks like fun. (I'm very, very fond of their Red Velvet lip gloss, but I think that's just a winter seasonal item.)   On the less eye-stabbingly expensive side, Bonne Bell's lipLITES are cheap, taste and smell good, and I carry them in my backpack, makeup bag and knitting bag. (I linked to the website, though the last time I got my hands on them, I did so through Ebay.) Anyway, their Mocha Mousse flavor tastes like chocolate and is a really, really great pink color.   I always need more lip gloss, on the grounds that I tend to lose them almost at the same rate as I lose my hair ties. (Which is another thing that I can always use more of.)   A number of Witches on the SW thread mentioned the Long Winter Farm. I'm not familiar with them, but any lip balm that smells like gingerbread, ginger-peach, or hot cocoa, or blueberry crumble or . . . really, any of the flavors, other than pomegranate.   Also, Burt's Bees does some good stuff.   How do you feel about franken polish? Are you okay with all chemicals, or would you prefer 3 free? Would you want glitter or holographic glitter? What colors would interest you? Franken polish looks like a lot of fun, and I have no idea what 3 free means. Sunset colors are good - red, vibrant orange, gold, as are metallics in general. Also, glitter is awesome.   What strange misc. items would you love to receive that you just haven't gotten for yourself? Bento box stuff, eyeliner pencils, lace-weight yarn, yarn bowls, d10 dice and dice bags, and of all the random stuff, an American Tribal style bellydance headband and hip scarves.   Would you like/wear a pair of these? If so, what color? Yes, and either in red, green or black.   Is there anyone here who likes toe socks? You know, those socks with a place for each toe? Yes, yes I do!   Sock preferences? Stripes! Thigh-high! (Or ankle-length). Bright, eye-searing colors! Yay for socks!   How do you feel about pumpkin scented things? Not perfume related, but soap, candles, etc.... Pumpkins are love, and they smell (and taste) delicious.   If you had an international witch, is there anything you would like from the UK? (Or Australia, Belgium, France any other country we have witches from. *grabby hands* Local candy and tea! Local recipes (anyone else madly fond of meatballs?))   Also, Frey Chocolate. If so do you it really thin, hard and crunchy or thicker and softer. I'm not very familiar with beef jerky, but it sounds good, and if there are any local/personal favorites, I'd love to try it. (I'm in the thicker and softer camp, btw. )   Also do you like or racier ecards from time to time and do you need to be warned if something may be not safe to open at work? I'm cool with racy e-cards.   Do you like Star Wars? Original Trilogy? Prequels? Spin-offs? Favorite characters? I admired Han Solo's hind end in the original trilogy, and Amidala's costuming in the prequels, but other than that, I'm not terrible fond. The boyfriend however, is mad about the series as a whole, and the books in particular. His favorite characters would have to be Wes Janson, Hobbie Kilvan, Wedge Antilles and Lieutenant Kettch.   How do you feel about maple syrup? As long as it's actually maple syrup, and not corn-syrup-with-maple-flavor. It's a useful cooking ingredient. (And the boyfriend loves it on his pancakes.)   Are you more prone to order out or cook at home? Would you be interested in cookbooks, kitchen utensils, and the like? If so, anything specific? Cookbooks would be very welcome. I have most of the kitchen utensils I need, but the stacking kitty measuring spoons have been calling my name for years.   Honestly, your favorite recipes/cooking tips/cookbook would be very welcome. Or a badass apron. No ruffles, please.   Do you like chex puppy chow or muddie buddies? Would you want to get some from your witch / nacho witch? If it's for something awesome, sure.   From the Weenie Update....what are you most wanting to try? From the 2013 Halloween update, I have Ookie and Goblin Market on order. I'd like to sniff Theme in Yellow, Dark Pumpkin Mead and A World Where There Are Octobers.   Who's into nail polish? What colors/brands? I like metallic colors, glitters and deep blood reds. No particular brand preference, just please no pinks. Emerald greens and deep glittery blues are always lovely.   Social Media? I have a Facebook account, that's used exclusively to play Frontierville. I won't link it, because no one needs to know the depth of my obsession with little cartoon animals it's boring. My LiveJournal account it similarly empty. Really, I'm most active on the BPAL forums.   Dream candle? Scent, color, type (tealight, votive, pillar, jar, etc.), throw...? Probably a large jar candle with a spiced pumpkin scent. No color preference, as I typically burn them in a quiet corner. I like the smell and the light more than the shape and color.   Do you like knitted goodies? If so, what would you like and what colors? I do! I very much so. Scarves, arm-warmers/fingerless gloves and hats would be awesome. (Mittens, I'm afraid, would get less use. My workplace is terribly overcooled, but I still have to type, so I need my fingers free.) Jamba Juice would get a lot of use - I go there for lunch frequently.   If you RP, tabletop, forum, or otherwise... Do you have any original characters you'd like to see art of? If so, please give information! Even if it's a link to a web page or a profile or picture! I'd like to apologize in advance - I do a lot of tabletop gaming, and I like art. This'll be a long answer.   So, I have a *ahem* number of characters.   Candice The character is a human woman who hunts monsters (generally for very large bounties). She uses guns. Lots of guns, preferably large guns. She's equally fond of rocket launchers, though that tends to result in paperwork.   She's a slightly built Caucasian woman of average height, with long red hair. She has blue eyes, and freckles that she hates. She wears jeans and t-shirts, or semi-military clothing, such as cargo pants, combat boots and sleeveless undershirts. She very seldom smiles and takes herself terrible seriously.   I'm after a general sense of threat or menace, rather than specific details.   If it's at all helpful, she's a Hunter, from New World of Darkness.   Reference pictures: An in-game sketch of her (the art is bad, but the feel is *perfect*), a better, black and white sketch, a delightful color picture   Midori Midori is half fox-spirit and half plant-spirit. (It's a long, long story that boils down to 'a wizard did it, when drunk'.) She's quite young, very playful, and equally likely to look like a young teenager as she is to look like a fox kit. In either form, she has green hair/fur with plants growing out of it, depending on her mood; generally flowers if she's happy and thorns if she's not.   Reference picture: A sketch in green, the Stupid Fox webcomic on DevArt is useful reference material.   Kyouhei The second picture is also based on a friend’s character. He’s a Japanese martial artist, tightly muscled, with a tattoo of a Japanese dragon on his back, on part of one pectoral and along one arm. Generally, he wears sleeveless-shirt or Chinese-style button down shirts. (If muscles + intricate tattoo aren’t appealing, long-sleeved shirts are always an option.)   He has short hair, no piercings, and other than the tattoo and being distinctly Asian, he doesn’t have any identifying marks. He has tan skin, dark hair, and brown eyes.   This character is *happy*. He plays pranks, he pesters people, he makes jokes at hideously inappropriate times and is comfortable with nudity when no one else is (and when everyone else in the party would greatly appreciate it if he were to put his pants back on.)   The style he studies, Chang Quan, emphasizes aerial techniques, so when fighting, he only rarely has his feet on the ground.   The kind of aerial stunts he pulls: -[link] (Large image) -[link]   Tattoos - [link] - [link] - [link]   Reference picture: Black and white sketch   Felix Felix is a Japanese catboy, devious as all Hell, and invariably up to something. He's in his mid-twenties, Japanese and wears a red collar with a silver bell.   Other than cat ears, a tail and slitted pupils, he looks human. He has a moderate build and some visible muscle mass, but he's not ripped or super skinny. He's kept as a pet, so other than a fundoshi and the collar, he doesn't wear a whole lot.   As far as personality goes, he tends to be playful, and very fond of sulking/crying to get his way. Huge wobbly eyes are his favored form of manipulation if he's ever denied anything or if he’s caught raising hell – which happens frequently.   If possible, I'd like him to be messing with a catnip mouse, yarn, or stalking a bug. For this character, chibi-style is perfectly appropriate.   He's based on the Japanese Bobtail breed, and as such his tail is short, only about 8 inches long.   Reference picture: A chest-up sketch, a full body (warning - discreet nudity)   If you could see anything, what would it be? Can be a person, an event, a landmark or monument, an object, etc. And it doesn't have to be on this planet, or in this time period, or in this reality! Um, that's a hell of a question. I wouldn't mind seeing a singularity, or a triangular bubble, but I don't think I'm caffeinated enough to give the question a proper answer.   I was reading through the Switch Witch thread, and a couple of people mentioned how awesome it would be to see Azeroth (the setting of the Warcraft games) in person. I'd love to see/talk to a Naaru. So much glowy.   Is there a particular myth/folktale/legend/fairytale/godstory that you're drawn to? A couple of posters have mentioned the legend of Hua Mulan, which I'm also fond of.   There’s also the story of the koi and the waterfall. To quote the Shadowscapes website, "In Chinese and Japanese legend the lowly carp spends its life trying to swim up the Yellow River. At the source of the river is a great roaring waterfall. If the koi were able to swim up that waterfall, it would be rewarded and transformed into a dragon. Thus, the koi is a symbol of personal advancement, perseverance, determination in the face of impossible obstacles, and inner strength."   Also, stories of kitsune and of Tamamo-no-Mae are delightful. I like playing Tamamo as a sophisticated villainess in some of my tabletop games. She's intelligent, dangerous and utterly ruthless.   When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? I'll curl up on my giant bean bag, watch silly Miyazaki movies (usually My Neighbor Totoro or Spirited Away) and eat udon noodle soup. If it's an option, I'll take a hot bath, slouch around the house in oversized plaid pajama pants and a slinky shirt. Sometimes I'll knit, or read a book. Um, massages are also good, and I'm low on massage oil.   Chicken soup - or recipes - are also very helpful.   What constitutes ultimate luxury to you? Having my hair styled in a salon and wearing hair ornaments. Warm, soft towels after a hot bath. The feel of silk, alpaca or cashmere yarn/fabric. After having given it some thought, I think I associated luxury primary with textures and colors - silk, cobalt glass, the rainbows bouncing off of crystal. (Also, pancakes and fruit salad first thing in the morning, prepared by someone else.) Painted silk wall-hangings.   Dark chocolate and fresh raspberries, and someone to share the taste with.   Also, a bathtub big enough for the boyfriend and I to be comfortable, with sufficient hot water. September 30th   Witchee, would you like anything from this particular Haunt update?   I don't understand the point of Haunt, truth be told. All this fuss over products that only like five people are able to get.   Who's interested in Halloween: Montreal?   I'm indifferent.   You get a package in the mail containing 3 things you have really wanted more than anything else you've mentioned so far in this thread. (they are all reasonably priced of course! ~$20 or less apiece). What are they?   Hmmm.   Some sort of carnelian jewelry--ring, bracelet, pendant, whatever. A ring would be especially nice. Some dyed silk ribbons. I don't know what the hell I'll do with them, but I saw some on Etsy once that I just LOVED. A girl can dream. A tin of snowbud white from Adagio. Siiigh. Love in a cup.     how do you feel about hemp? jewelry, soap, etc?   I like hemp. I do not like hemp when some idiot decides to store one of my giant balls of the stuff for the winter by wrapping the loose end in DUCT TAPE and then I have to cut off like 10 feet because it's covered in duct tape gunk and--ahem. You bit off the corner and then could just suck the caramel out. Heavenly. I also adore Colombian coffee candies.   What is something totally random (yes, that thing that just popped into your head) that hasn't been covered by any previous questions?   I have fallen in love with Alexander Rybak. Just general info for my witch

Hi there witch I hope your ninja stalking is going well. I apologize for being a bit of a wet blanket at times. This past few months has been a rough period in my life and some days it just totally overwhelms me. Due to my anxiety issues I have no one in real life to talk to about stuff like this, the few people close to me are the ones I need to mentally support or protect. So I might dump it here as its easy and I can be the quivering bowl of insecure, sad, self-conscious jello that I really feel like sometimes.   OK now back to the fun. I said this on the thread, but there are so many pages I just want to make sure you realize I expect nothing fancy or expensive. I am a window shopper everything I like goes on my wishlist as you never know I may meet someone who will have to buy me goodies or win the lottery. If you are crafty I would be thrilled what ever amazing things you might create. If you are not crafty garage sales and thrift stores are my normal place to shop. My entire wardrobe is almost completely second hand. OK my scent wishlist has quite a few very rare scents. I do not expect them from you, again it is just what I do with wishlists.I tried to put some easy to find LE's as well as general catalogue on there as well. I really have the most difficult time picking scents so would love some help with imps from whatever company you may have lying around. I also am trying some of the new weenies and somewhere posted some Arcana scents I would like to try. I think the most important thing to say though I may seem a flake and yes I am one, but one who is so very thrilled to have someone take the time to do something special for her; you cannot imagine how much I appreciate it.   If you are crafty I am VintageTreasureChest on ETSY so you can see what crafty things I like. Oh I love foreign newspapers especially Asian or French I am learning decoupaging or am at least messing around with it and want to try somethings with newspaper. I also love really old magazines from the 1900 to around 1940's. especially if they are over-sized I live in a small town, but sometimes find them at garage sales. I don't have pics. We have a black/yellow eyed 6 mth old kitten, and two cats about two years old. One looks like a striped ally cat and one is a blue eyed, long hair siamese look alike. Switch Witch Part 2!

I decided to start a new entry, I hope you don't mind! I noticed a lot of people saying they were starting to get cut off, so just in case...       Cthulhu: yay or nay? Cthulhu stalks me. Seriously. I got real interested in Tarot cards one day, talked to some people on the forums about finding a good starter deck and they told me to go with one that calls to me. I went to the bookstore and lo and behold! The Necronomicon deck. I didn't know much about Lovecraft stuff then. I had heard of him, and some of his stories and Cthulhu of course, but nothing detailed. I ended up buying the Necronomicon deck after debating for an hour or more between that and another one. But that one just called to my dark side and I loved the spooky imagery on the cards. Ever since then, Cthulhu has been popping up everywhere! Shortly after that day, I discovered The Last Lovecraft on Netflix. Awesomely funny. I started seeing his image or references to him all over, in Squishables, on FB, in songs (Metallica and Deadmau5 to name a couple off the top of my head). I watched all of season 14 of South Park when I saw it on Netflix too and those 3 episodes at the end had Cthulhu in them! So he's definitely made himself known to me and I've grown quite fond of him myself, maybe even a little obsessively so.   Is there something that you wish you could do, but you keep putting it off? Find my own place to live? My roomie is frustrating at time. September 21st   Cthulhu: yay or nay? Can't say I am "in the know" on this subject...   Is there something that you wish you could do, but you keep putting it off? Over the top it would have something for sweetness and femininity (bourbon vanilla? honey? a sweet fruit blossom floral? all of those?) with a little spice to make it interesting (ginger? cinnamon? saffron?) It would be kin to Vixen (but more refined and less obviously sexy) and Hetairae (but a little kickier from spice).   I’ve often described my favorite bpals as if they are pieces of jewelry: Vixen is a big pendant made of carnelian or garnet or ruby that rests in my cleavage and Hetairae is a classic pearl necklace. My signature scent would be a delicate and feminine yet warm and fiery statement necklace. Favorites include Villainess, Prairieland Herbs and Faerie Made. I’ve wanted to try Paintbox for a while. Really, most of the handmade soap places from etsy and local farmer’s markets appeal to me. I also like scrubs (Villainess is my traditional favorite, but I’m game to try anything) and bath oils/bubble baths. I’m not a big lotion person because I‘m generally too short on time in the morning to use it! Clothing Style/Fave garments: I’m a fairly conservative dresser with occasional moments of flair. In the non-summer months I tend to wear a lot of silk and knit scarves and dress up my business-casual with fun jewelry. I wear a lot of merino wool turtlenecks, long sleeved t’s, plain skirts and jeans. I’d LIVE in a black turtleneck sweater if I could. I love, love, good tights! Favorite clothing colors/colors to wear: My wardrobe mainly consists of black, with red, plum, green, turquoise and bright blue as accents. Type(s) of jewelry worn: I wear lots of necklaces and earrings -- very few bracelets because they never come small enough for my wrists and the only rings I wear are my wedding and engagement rings. Ring/wrist/collar size: My ring fingers are a small 5, but those are taken. For other fingers I would guess a ., Wrist: 6.5 inches with the tape flush, Neck: 13 inches with the tape flush. My favorite necklaces tend to be between 16 (the ones I wear with open neck shirts) and 18-20 (the ones I wear with turtlenecks only). Jewelry - gold or silver? Either or! I also like bronze. Do you have any allergies to metal?: Nope. Favorite gemstones: I go in two directions: Very cool and/or very fiery. I love green and blue stones (jade, emerald, peridot, turquoise, etc) but also warm fiery ones (carnelian, garnet, ruby, citrine, etc). I also like pearls. I also like the occasional amethyst. Really, I’m not picky. Sock/Shoe Size: I wear a US 6.5 or 7 shoe. My feet are rather narrow, so socks with lots of stretch are good.   Lifestyle Style/home decoration style: None? I’m not a decorator. I hate to dust and most decorations seem to require it. Our house has art on the walls, but no knick-knacks. The only holiday decorating I do is a Christmas tree. Favorite decorating colors: Red for accents and pale/cool tones (grey, blue, etc) for the walls. Things you collect: I am trying very hard to stop collecting books. Truthfully, I’m not a “collector” of things. I acquire things I love (see: books, scarves, jewelry), but don’t set out to collect any of it. The closest I come is micro-brewery/bar t-shirts. I tend to buy one whenever I visit a new place. Favorite music: I have eclectic tastes: Americana, alt-country, folk, folk-rock, 80s pop and punk, 90s grunge, etc. Least favorite music: Nashville country Vegetarian/Vegan?: (Please be as specific as possible to reduce confusion!) Nope. I am omnivorous. Other food restrictions: None. Favorite flavors: I don’t play favorites. But some things I particularly love include: olives, tahini (and hummus with lots of tahini), smoked fish, avocados, dried fruit, beets, ginger, dark chocolate, cashews, almonds, raspberry, mango, cheese and dill. Favorite foods/drinks: I love oolong and black teas. I’m also a huge beer and wine nut. See above for some favorite foods. Really, there’s not much I don’t like except sweet pickles! Favorite authors/genres: I read a lot of sci-fi/fantasy and “literary” fiction. I also like memoir, especially food/travel memoir. Least favorite authors/genres: I don’t read a lot of fact heavy non-fiction, but really I’ll read anything. Books/authors you'd like to read, but haven't yet: I’ll attach links to wishlists at the end. There are too many books I want to read to list them all out. How do you feel about receiving gently used books as gifts? I LOVE it. Love with a big fat hug and smooch love. I also love kindle books or .pdf files. Favorite stores (including clothing stores): Brick and mortar stores I love visiting include Trader Joe’s, TJ Maxx (I’m a bargain shopper, when I shop), book stores, independent tea/coffee stores, massive liquor stores and tiny artist’s boutiques. The truth is, I’m not much of a shopper except online. Favorite online stores (including B&B stores): I love: Etsy(!), Villainess, Garnet Hill, Sock Dreams, Territory Ahead, ModCloth (I never buy, but I drool), Soap Box, Elementals, Lush, Fantasy Bath, Sierra Trading Post, Powell’s and Amazon. And many more that my brain is running away from right now lest I do something bad like go and shop! Magazines you subscribe to: None Magazines you like, but don't subscribe to: Vanity Fair, Cook’s Illustrated. I also love Apex and really need to buy a kindle subscription at some point, although I’m sad Cat V. is no longer editing. Favorite movies: The Linguini Incident, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Big Chill Favorite TV show(s): Intelligence, Buffy, Twin Peaks, Deadwood, Arrested Development, Jonathan Creek, the first few seasons of Monarch of the Glen Hobbies/crafts done: None. I am the anti-crafter who has hands made entirely of thumbs. But I SO admire others’ crafting skills. Sometimes I am a 5 (wherein 5 is the highest) with notes and files and systems. Sometimes I am a 1, with piles and lost items and procrastination. I go to extremes.   - Where, outside of the U.S. would you love to visit? (if you're international, this can be anywhere) Everywhere. No really, everywhere. I’d like to go back to England and go to Ireland; Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Costa Rica, all over the Caribbean... The problem (besides not having the vacation time or money!) is that I HATE to fly!   - Do people tell you that you act older, younger, or your age? Act older, look younger.   - What animal do you feel like the most? On a daily basis I don't really feel like an animal at all -- I'm a human and quite pleased to be one. That said, I have had recurring dreams in which I am a fox. During the dreams I do fox-like things such as catch fish out of streams and play with other foxes.   - Your favorite feature about yourself: My favorite feature one day tends to be the same thing I hate the most the next. Examples: One day I love my hair for being super shiny and soft. The next I bemoan it as stick straight and full of split ends. Or my eyebrows: I love that they are thick and define my face. The next day I think they are too bushy and hard to tame. In general, the things I always like most about my are intangibles: My brain; my laugh; my ability to love.   - Do you live in a neighborhood or in the middle of nowhere? Neighborhood -- Old Town to be exact in a house built in 1899.   - If you were a tree, what would you be and why? I'd like to say a silver birch or an aspen because I think they're gorgeous -- I love the pale, slender trunk and the whispering leaves. I'd also quite like to be a cedar, fragrant with crazy twisted, low branches perfect for sitting on or climbing. But in reality I'm probably more like a mulberry -- a scrub tree that grows anywhere and litters the whole with loads of messy fruit that really isn't very good to eat.   -Have you ever thought, "oh, I'm going to get myself one of those one of these days" but then never do? List 1 under $10 and 1 over $10. Under $10: I have no idea if these are under or over $10, but they must be somewhat close... A cheap onion chopper and an insulated to-go style cup for iced tea/coffee (the kind with the re-useable straw) Over $10: A case for business cards.   - Has a stranger ever told you that you did something really well? What was it? I’ve had little old ladies tell me, unprompted, that I am a great reader at church and a good actress. I think they just like the fact that they can hear/understand me.   - Do you like garage sales (boot sales)? Yes, but in small doses. After about an hour I’m tired of smelling mothballs and my hands feel grimey.   - I like to slather my food in …: Rooster Sauce!   - State fairs or carnivals? Is there a difference? I guess for sheer size, state fairs.
