Fall '14 Switch Witch! Answers and misc

Wishlists: Etsy Amazon Bodyartforms Sockdreams   Answers!   1. I wonder what a potential witchee would think about being bombarded with PUMPKINS in various formats. Because my current obsession just may last long enough to be of use in spoiling.....but I know wouldn't be appreciated by everyone. Would you appreciate it?!?   I really like pumpkin bread/cake/pie/cookies, but I'm not too fond of it in scents (foody smells in general don't do much for me). As for decor, I'm with eml298 and am good with them if they're more 'modern pumpkin' vs 'country pumpkin'.   2. I currently have a CSA and my significant other is perpetually out of town for work, so I've been doing a lot of canning and baking with my vegetables. How do people feel about canned good (pickles, salsa, etc) and vegetal baked goods (squash bread, zucchini bread).   Partially? I'm really good with breads, etc. Canned goods, probably not, as my fella and I don't use hardly any pickled items, and he hates salsa. (I'm highly amused by this, as he's Hispanic)   3. Trading Post wants?   I'd love to try some of the hair glosses! I'm most interested in Dorian, Amber and Patchouli, and Coconut, Vanilla Bean, and Tiare. (Decants would be perfect...I don't have a whole lot of hair!)   Atmo sprays sound good too! And I'd love some stickers or a magnet! I'll tweak my wishlist and add them there.   So.. what direct sellers do you not like and would prefer not to get things from?   On that list, I'm not a fan of Mary Kay and Scentsy. Also, Yankee Candle and I rarely get along.   How about y'alls coffee and tea preferences? Do you prefer one or the other, both, or neither? Hot or iced? Whole bean, pre-ground, loose-leaf, tea bags, green, black, herbal, etc...? Do you have a coffee maker/bean grinder/tea-making accoutrements - what kind? Favorite places to buy coffee and tea - do you prefer Starbucks, Teavana, etailers, local roasteries, etc., and are there any you haven't tried yet but want to? Are you a purist or do you like flavors, and if so, what kinds?   I love both coffee and tea, and will drink either of them hot or iced. I prefer my beans whole, and my tea loose leaf, but I'll drink bagged tea. I have all the tea/coffee making stuffs I need (tea strainer/steeper, pot, mugs) and a coffee pot and grinder. I have a few loose teas I'd love to try on my amazon wishlist. I love flavours, and really don't like Starbucks. They over roast their beans, and it makes me sad. Teavana is not my cuppa either. I'd rather go through smaller companies and get more tea with less fanfare, if that makes sense. I love Irish Breakfast teas, Earl Grey, Vanilla, Mint, Chai, and am open to trying fruity teas!   6. Do you cook? Would kitchen accessories make you happy? Cooking and baking are definitely my thing. I'm mostly set on kitchen acessories, but I could use mixing bowls, silicone spatulas (that are a solid one piece...the two pieces tend to grow mold between the handle and blade), and muffin and mini muffin trays.   7. How do people feel about creative endeavours? Would you like to receive one? Or supplies to make your own? What do you like? Drawings, stories, poems? I love artwork, drawings, paintings, homemade comics etc - it's all good. I love to write and I play around with sketching/painting. I'm not very good yet, but hey, it's a learning experience! 8. What culture or country (doesn’t have to be modern) do you feel an innate connection with? What about it makes it special to you? I'm Canadian, so my country's quite young in comparison to many others out there, so I tend to love reading/discovering about ancient times. Really no personal preference to the country itself, but when you can enter the ruins of say a temple that was built thousands of years ago - that fascinates me. Ancient China or Egypt or Rome or whatever. 9. Is there any sort of art commission you would like: cartoony, pin-up, fantasy, realistic, etc? If so, what subject would you like drawn (a picture of you, a character, a loved one or pet)? Ooh. I'd love a realistic river otter piece or one of my wee kitty (aka The Littlest Hellbeast) 10. What do you find yourself doing for fun in your free time? What are your main hobbies and interests? Reading, writing, movies, traveling, eating out, good conversation with great friends, working Ren Faires, crafting, cooking, going to kink events. 11. Table-top gaming? If yes, what kind, edition, etc? Gaming accessories you long for? Sorta? I'm getting my fella into tabletop games like Settlers of Cattan, Munchkin, etc. I'd love more games in a similar style! THere's some on my Amazon list. 12. DVD movies or games that you wish would magically appear in your hands? Can they be used, through Amazon? Yes please! There's a bunch on my Amazon list, and used is totally grand! 13. What kind of snacks or candy from other countries/states would you like to try? I miss some types of Canadian candy (born Canadian, in the US now). Particularly scotch mints (bonus points if they are Dare mints, because they have the crunchy outer shell, a chewy layer, and then another crunchy layer.), and Smarties. Smarties in the US are these nasty powdery candy. Back home they're like M&Ms, only flatter, brighter colours, and a better grade of chocolate. I like gummy candies, especially Haribo, and have a fondness for the awesome funky KitKats they make in Japan.   14. Do you have a favorite internet meme, character or pop culture fandom? Man, I'm a big old geek. I love Totoro, Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), the Avengers, Wolverine, and a fuckton of other comics. Other fandoms I forgot to mention on my ?aire are: Hannibal, Pirates of the Carribbean, Game of Thrones, Sherlock, ect. 15. Do you have a Facebook profile (or other social media) that you are comfortable linking to aid your witch in stalking? Please note whether you are willing to add BPALers as friends.   Tumblr is probably best for that. pixelatedtoys.tumblr.com (really not safe for work. I post porn, sex and kink positive stuff, as well as random kittens, otters, and social justice stuff.)   Do you like puzzles/riddles/treasure hunts and that sort of thing? Sorta? My family used to do little treasure hunts all the time, so it would definitely be a nostalgic thing.   If you were to receive music, would you want a physical CD or digital versions? I honestly don't have a preference. I have CDs for my car, and digital music on my laptop, so am good with either.   What’s a current problem/annoyance you have that could be remedied but you haven’t had time to address it? Um...I need to do a honey jar spell on my bf's boss (She just fired his co-worker, and isn't being that great to him.) but this week has been super crazy.   How do you feel about having some sort of trinket to carry around for good luck/wishes? I.e. a small figurine, symbol, card, coin… I can use all the good juju I can get! Especially some sort of money draw thing.   22. Are you superstitious about anything? Any things you can't have in your house for that reason--bad associations? Lavender scented things make me think of dead people (one too many bad EMS calls to a local retirement home), so I try to keep it out of my house. Apart from that, not really. 23. For the vegetarians and vegans: How do you feel about things (say, marshmallows or gummy candy) made with vegan gelatin or other typically-animal-derived-but-not-in-this-instance products? N/a!   24. Ok, so we've covered pumpkin. How do you feel about the other fall classic – apples? YES PLZ! I love apples, both fake neon green apple flavour and the natural stuff. Scent wise, I prefer crisp apples over an 'apple pie' flavour, and would be willing to try an oil with apple as a flavour if it wasn't too overly sweet foody. 25. Do you have any fabric or skin-contact aversions? Pure wool makes me itch and sometimes break out in hives. I love alpaca wool blends, though, and I'm sure any sort of mix will be ok. 26. How do you feel about Christmas/Yule ornaments? I like them, though my tree is hung with mini swords and throwing knives alongside the brightly coloured lights and balls. I love the mini weapons. I tend to stick with more Yule/pagan/nondenominational ornaments and decorations. Deer in particular are some of my favourites, and I like the recent trend towards peacock ornaments.   27. How do you feel about Hello Kitty, and Hello Kitty accessories (including mugs, cups, etc)? I don't mind them...my current round of bandaids are Hello Kitty, as is my current mug, but I prefer Chococat!   28. If you had a week free where you could learn anything, with no financial restrictions, what would you want to study? Pottery! There's two pottery studios in my town, and I really need to stop procrastinating and go sign up for some classes.   29. Do you enjoy poetry? Who are your favorite poets and what type of subject matter do you like? I like some, yes! W. B. Yeats is one of my favourites, as is Thomas Kinsella (though I've had a hard time finding his work outside of his translation of The Tain), e. e. cummings. Sierra DeMulder's 'Werewolf' made me cry recently. I'm not stuck on any particular subject matter, to be honest.   30. Would you enjoy receiving something related to a favorite Disney character? Sure! I love Disney. Some of my favourite characters: The Cheshire Cat (old school animated Chessy Cat, in purple and pink, not the blue and silver one), Kuzko from Emperor's NEw Groove, Maleficent, TOTORO! (since Disney is putting out Studio Ghibli), Merida from Brave, The Reluctant Dragon 31. How do you feel about cute things as decorations or accessories? (Example: Would you enjoy this stationery - or do you prefer elegant/creepy/neutral stuff?) Ack! Those are freaking adorable. I'd love something like that, but creepy elegant goth stuff is also fantastic.   32. What is something you'd really like to recieve from your witch? Please be as specific as possible - no, "Oh whatever she thinks is fine!" Something either made by my Witch or someone local to them that they'd think I'd like, or something that makes them go "Oh! This is going to be perfect!" I like things that have personal meaning to my Witch, or that she thinks will have meaning for me. (I hope that's not too vague, Witch of mine!)   33. If there was another time period other than now that described your style/aesthetics, what would it be? Ehhhhh. I honestly can't think of one? I'd love to have a Viking Mead hall, but that's about it.   38. If you had to pick one or two quotes to live by, what would it be and why? "Always be more than you appear." It was from an E Nesbitt book I read as a child and it's always stuck with me. 39. Do you prefer physical books? CD books? eBooks? If eBooks do you have preferred format, kindle/nook/kobo/PDF/ePub/ect? I love physical books! I don't have a kindle thingy yet, so e books aren;t really my thing. And I have a hard time focusing for books on tape/cd, so would prefer to not receive those.   40. Smut! Yes or no? If yes, what kink, er, kind? Yes please. I'm kinky and prefer my smut to be kinked too! Right now I'm loving Amanda Gannon and her husband Paul Batteiger's stuff on Smashwords. I want 'The Golden Mask' and 'Throne of the Depths'! (I'm pixelatedtoys over there).   41. Ebooks! Yes or no? Sure! I don't have a kindle or anything, but if there is an option to read it as a text/html, that would be cool!   42. If your witch were to take a photograph (or paint or whatever) of something just for you, what would it be? Landscape? Flower? Critter? Something to illustrate a favorite quote? For photos, I'd love leaves or trees (especially oaks!). Art, well, I love otters! 44. What is your favorite Halloween animal or other symbol/decoration? Um...probably black cats, because the Littlest Hellbeast is a tiny black kitty/demoncreature. I also love oak leaves and acorns, though those are more harvest-y. 45. Makeup, especially of the indie variety. Nail polish, nail wraps, eyeshadow, lipstick/gloss, etc. Y/N? Specific preferences (color, finish, product, brand, etc.)? I love nail polishes and eyeshadows! Lipstick...I'm looking for the perfect pin-up blue based red. Lipgloss and I have a love hate relationship, but I do love Nyx's Lip Butters! For polishes, no textured finishes, please. I end up chewing those off. :/   46. How do you feel about profanity and off-color humor? I'm good with it, provided it's not racist, transphobic, homophobic, or in a similar vein. 47. I make hairsticks...would you like/use them? My mohawk is too short, sorry! Plus I make the wee things. 48. Does anyone here LARP? If so, what kind of LARP? And what kind of character do you play? Nope! 49. Would you completely freak out if I sent you a chocolate covered scorpion or some other food oddity? This includes things like 'bacon powder' from thinkgeek.com. Um...no bugs, please. I would probably freak out a bit and never eat it. THough I might wave them threateningly at friends who came to visit.   Bacon power is slightly...intriguing? 50. This has kind of been covered, but, are you ok with receiving canned jam (from a veteran jammer!) and if so, what flavors would you like and not like? I'm not a jam person, but the fiance is! He'd love (and eat) pretty much any type of jam. 51. Let's talk nail polish. What colors do you love? Hate? Which brands are you dying to try? Have you ever used indies? Do you like glitter? Any textures to avoid (glitter, sand, etc)? I love holos, milky glitters, interesting topcoats, and usually wear China Glaze, Zoya, and OPI. I've not tried any indie polishes, but would love to! And no textured polishes please, unless they're glitter.   52. How do you feel about getting a special Halloween plushie? I've hit my plushie cap, sorry. The bed is full, and some of them are now sleeping on the floor.   53. I'm in Japan, anything specific you might want from the land of the rising sun? Um..I like gummy candies and have large amounts of love for Pocky, oddly flavoured Kit Kats, and really like the peeling face masks yo can get from Daiso stores (esp. the charcoal ones!). Oh, and some pretty patterned Tenugui! (They're so freaking versatile!) 54. Are there any GC scents that you know you love, but for whatever reason, keep putting off buying bottles of? Medea. Brisingamen. Dragon's Milk. I keep getting sent imps, and haven't got a bottle yet.   55. I know not everyone likes Lush products, but if you do, which Lush items would you like to get from your Witch? Dark Angels Cleanser, 56. Is there anywhere (in the US) that you are dying to get away to? Also when would you be able to get away. Would this even be something you were interested in? If so, go look at the Southwest sale for routes and dates and times. I can't fly, for various anxiety reasons, sorry. 57. If you are ok with receiving t-shirts, what size are you, do you prefer tissue tees, normal crew tees, babydoll etc? I usually fit into a women's XL tee (whee, cleavage of Doom.), unless it's a teefury or AA, etc, type shirt. Then I'm an 2xl. Babydolls are cute, but I may need to go up a size for them to fit. Tissue tees, I usually wear an XL 58. THINKGEEK! Who loves it - do you have a wishlist on there?? What are some things you are jonesing for on there for under $20? I do have a wishlist! Would you like arm warmers/fingerless gloves? If so, what length? just beyond the wrist, almost to the elbow, full sleeves? Fingerless gloves are fantastic! I wear a size M glove, and either beyond the wrist or to the elbow would be great. I work faires when it's cold, and need my fingers free to lace and unlace bodices! 61. Do you feel a particular affinity for a specific animal/s? OTTERS! (river, not ocean) 62. Anyone have any Paintbox Soapworks loves? Ummm...everything? My most favourites are 'THe Queen is Dead' and 'Gingermilk'. 63. How would you feel if your witch or a minion of your witch showed up in person at your house with goodies? Thrilled? Annoyed? I grew up on a dairy, so things like that don't bother me! 69. Would you enjoy getting a sampling of quality incense taken from various sources? Are there types of incense you know you don't like? Would you want a burner for loose incense and a few charcoals to get you started with that, or would you rather stick to simpler types? Oh yes please! I love incense, but don't have much variety in what I burn right now. (Nippon Kodo, and Incense From India, mostly). Please feel free to expand my horizons! 70. I know we already had a question about needed kitchen accessories, but what about spices? I'm set on that front, thank you. 71. Would you like handmade stationary or cards? How about a quill pen? Stationary or cards are lovely, but I'll pass on the quill pen. 72. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being "gimme that ghost pepper!" and 1 being "oh, that's a bit too much black pepper for me" Where is your heat tolerance? About a 4? I like small amounts of siracha and usually buy medium heat salsa. 73. What is your favorite type of Halloween candy? Those awesomely disgusting caramel apple lollipops. 74. Do you need or want any cosy footwear, like fluffy slippers, or slipper socks etc? No thanks. I honestly hate having stuff on my feet when I'm inside, even if it's freezing!   75. What do you most look forward to each Fall? I used to look forward to the leaves changing. Now that I'm in Texas, I look forward to it being slight less hot, and it being Ren Faire season!   76. I have a 15.6" laptop that could use a case, and my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Ring M840 (Prevail 2). 77. Are there any beauty accessories you need or would like? For example make-up brushes, facial brushes or eyelash curlers. Brushes! I have a few ecotool eye brushes and would love more. 78. Would you be disappointed to get one big box, or would you prefer a bunch of little ones? And would you be disappointed if your witch actually had it together early and sent it to you sooner than later?   I'm honestly easy to please, Witch of mine. For PJ pants, do you like cotton or flannel?   I'm a PJ shorts sort of person, and would probably wear XL. Cotton, please! For undies, I'm a boyshorts sorta gal, and am usually an 8 XL in those too.   80. Do you like M&Ms?   I usually eat the green and blues out of my fella's bag when he gets some, but don't usually get them for myself.   81. How about wax melts? I have a tart melter thingy, but I don't use it that often anymore. I'm on more of an incense kick of late.   82. Would you like a subscription for Spotify? (I had to look up what that was...eep.) Those are awesome. 85. Skin care routine? Fave cleanser? Toner? Moisturizer? What about body lotions? Any particular brand or scent? Lip balms? Yay or nay? Um...oh gosh. I suck at facial skin care. I usually use just regular soap to wash my face, so if there's something you think I might like and should be using instead, feel free to toss it my way. For body lotion, my fella dna I both use a really nice hemp lotion, but I'm up for trying something new. I love lip balms, and always have at least one stick of Burt's Bees original, and another which varies. 86. Is there anything you would like from Salem MA (mugs, keychains, postcards, etc.or witchy supplies like incense, candles, books)? Witch supplies would be nice! I'm in need of small coloured candles, and would definitely love incense. 87. Would you be interested in any of the items in LisaNut's etsy shop? The knitty things are lovely, but Texan winters aren't nearly cold enough for them. :/ 88. Spiders (as in cute knit kind) yes or no? I'm pretty spider-phobic, sorry. 89. Pillows (the mostly decorative type)? Sure! 90. Any kind of bags - big, small, medium, purse, grocery, etc? I like medium to large sized bags, purse or grocery/totes! 91. Is there anything special coming up in your life? Ren Faire season!!!!! Second weekend in October til the first weekend of December. I work for Moresca, and spend my day lacing folks into and out of bodices, plus put together fabulous 'spensive outfits.   92. Would you enjoy any of these couple rings? Or anything from the same store's Halloween collection? The rings are cute, but my fiance isn't as geeky as I am, so wouldn't enjoy them as much as I would. I love this cuff (aluminum, plz), and would also be thrilled with the text of this on a cuff bracelet! (silk wraps are a bit fussy for my world...I'm hard on fabrics with all the crafting I do) 96. If you imbibe at all ... preference between: wine/beer/cocktails and then glassware and/or bar-ware? cocktail gadgetry? Books on the subject/recipes? would you want sample bottles of local/regional/small batch craft spirits if they were home decanted and labeled? We're fans of alcohol of all sorts! We drink scotch and whiskey the most (I buy him a bottle of 10 y/o scotch for Christmas), then other liquors, probably wine the least. We are definitely set for glassware and bar ware. A bartender's bible would be snazzy, though. And sure! Sample bottles would be super awesome if you're willing to be shiesty and ship them.   97. I have two partial (Backup) bottles of some scents on your wishlist, Witchee. However, the labels aren't perfect, due to a tragic imp explosion. Would you still be ok with getting them? I'm good with this! 113. Do you like incense? Or are you more of a fan of essential oil aromatherapy/fragrance oils a la Yankee Candle/B&BW? Or all of the above? What scents do you prefer for those kinds of things? Nag champa? Lemongrass EO for the house? PUMPKIN SPICE EERYTHANG. What companies do you like specifically (if any) - links? I like incense! I mostly burn Incense from India brand, I especially love their ambers, sandalwoods, Clove, Golden Vanilla, and Exotic Spice. Am not really a foody scent sort of being, though, so no on the pumpkin spice. I sometimes also burn Super Hit/Nag Champa, so hippy type stuff is ok. Lemongrass EO sounds fantastic! 114. Fall Switch Witch 2013 Q&A

1. Hey, Witchee, it's getting cold. Socks, scarves, hats or arm warmers? Socks- I have a Sock Dreams wishlist with many socks and arm warmer type things on it! Scarves- I can never have too many pashminas, and love interestingly patterned and non-chunky shawlettes. (examples of styles I find appealing here, here, and here. I'd prefer neutral colours, or greens and blues, as those are the colors of my Faire garb, and I'd be wearing these at both festivals I work, as well as during the winter!) Hats- No thanks. They're really hard to fit properly. Arm warmers- Yes, please!   2. Halloween Candy, Decorations, and Costume supplies - What kind are your idea of FUN and which ones would you thoroughly dislike? Halloween Candy - I'm kinda meh about a fair amount of it, to be honest. Candy corn and those wee sugar pumpkins make me ill after only a few, and most mini candy bars Decorations - I love trees and branches and things with oak leaves and acorns on them, yes plz. Costume Supplies - I prefer stuff that's going to be durable year after year. I usually don't dress up for Halloween, as I'm working Ren Faire at that time, so my costuming tends to be Rennie stuff.   3. WHAT traditions to you partake in for Halloween? Knowing what you do our how you decorate or how you celebrate? For Halloween, we don't do a whole lot. I put up a few small decorations, we carve pumpkins and roast seeds (though they don't last long. Texas heat is cruel to pumpkins and they melt quickly once carved). I do some rituals on Samhain, but nothing huge.   4. Are you a fan of anything that you would like a tshirt of? If so, what size would you wear? I love Studio Ghibli stuff...um...clever fandom shirts, especially Pacific Rim. Art nouveau, especially Mucha. I usually wear a women's XL, a men's L (I am racktastic). 5. Do you love, hate, or are indifferent to.....pumpkin flavored things? Fairly indifferent, though I am slightly addicted to a pumpkin spice cake thingy I've been making. (Pumpkin puree mixed with a box of spice cake mix. Add sugar, a bit of milk, mix, then bake. It's moist and delicious!)   6. Dear future Witchee, did you get anything from the Beaver Moon or Weenie updates that I need to know about, so I don't accidentally repeat anything? I bought nothing so far. I'll let you know if I cave and pick up anything though!   7. Name some DVDs you wouldn't mind receiving, or are they on an Amazon list? I havean amazon wishlistwith lots of DVDs. (things are roughly sorted into several lists, so look to the left of the screen for my other lists!)   8. Do you want anything from Starbucks or Teavana? Tea, tea makers, rock sugar, tea tins, coffee, via, via refreshers, mugs, tazo tea...? I have a source for Starbucks stuff, but hell yes to Teavana stuff! Most of her items, while lovely, just aren't colour patterns I would wear, sorry. 11. If so, what kind(s)? Apple butter sounds tasty...my fella and I love it on fresh biscuits.   14. How feel you about lip balms, glosses, and lipsticks? Any particular favourite scents/flavours? Any favourite makers/sellers? I do not like lip gloss-way too goopy and sticky. I do like lip balm from time to time, and prefer stick type ones with a harder consistency, such as Burt's Bees. I am ok with mint and vanilla scents, but nothing too strong or perfume-y. I still have a weakness for Lip Smackers Dr. Pepper lipgloss, and adore the giant tubes of it! Lipsticks are awesome, though hard to pick out. I love pin up reds...right now MACs Russian Red is my holy grail, but I"m always looking for alternatives!   15. To answer my own question, no. I make them, and have hair that is way too short for it to work!   20. I've never tried any of the Weenies before.   My new job is at a consignment store where we have all kinds of designer brands for very reasonable prices. Crossbody purses in black? Sunglasses that are round and bug-like?) I don't really know any designers. *blush* I went from goth/punk to 'I'm trying to dress like an adult on a tight budget', so that is a world outside my own. I do know that I love the office goth look as well as steampunk, and love bags with lots of straps and buckles that are all industrial.   Do you have pierced ears? Yes. 2g and 6g piercings in my lobes, an industrial, rook, and a cartilage piercing also. I can't wear studs in my ears, but will wear dangly earrings, as well as plugs/spirals, etc. In the meantime, let me know what you like to do on the Internet to kill time. Flash games? What are your daily websites/blog visits, or favorite YouTube videos? Tumblr is my crack. I also spend far too much time doing bloggy stuff. Youtube is a soul sucking pit of cute videos and amazing music, and I usually just go from one vid to the next as background noise while writing.   My Little Pony... Cute or meh? I liked the original ones as a kid. Haven't got into the new series, though.   Lip balm - tube or tin? If so, any specific titles? I've never listened to one? I adore books. Paperbacks make me happiest, to be honest. Hardcovers take up far too much of my precious shelf space.   Bar soaps with some scrubby bits, yes or no? Yes, both my mate and I have skin that adores scrubbies! Babydolls, XL   I found a fantastic little shop while traveling that had unusual jellies and jams. Would you be interested in trying something like Georgia Moonshine Jelly or TOE Jam (each letter stands for some kind of fruit, I don't remember which ones) or something similar? How about homemade jam in general? So, I am horribly weird and cant eat jam or jelly. Not because of an odd allergic reaction or anything, but because the texture squicks me right out.
