September 11
I am fond of the thrift. Do you mind lightly used goods? Please be specific! For instance, I'm a little squicked by used clothing, but I don't mind any other used goods (i.e. books, glassware, games, DVDs, whatever.) I'm the same -- fine with just about any thrift except used clothes or anything that can have bedbugs (e.g., pillows, pincushions, etc.). Also used furniture, but I guess that won't be an issue unless you plan to send me a couch.
Do you have an Etsy shop? Do you know of any Etsy shops that are Switch Witch friendly? No and no.
Would a gift or a postcard from Disneyland make you squee with delight or puke into your mail box? I'm not a big fan of Disney, I'm afraid.
what are your favorite types of Halloween candy? It's far easier to list what isn't my favorite. Pretty much the only candy I don't care for is any hard candy. It's like sucking on plastic to me.
Do you prefer soap or shower gel? Please give examples of your favorite scents or brands. Definitely soap, as I think gel isn't green because of the extra packaging. (Although I do admit to loving Philosophy Body Washes, and buying them very occasionally.) I tend to like the soap you can get in Whole Foods, the kind where you pay by the pound and cut off a piece from a giant soap hunk -- that kind of thing. Can't think of brands at the moment; I tend to sniff and if I like it, I'll buy.
How do you like your chocolate? For example with nuts, mint, peanut butter, caramel? Any of the above. But while we're on the subject, I greatly prefer milk to dark. Like, GREATLY.
Beads! Do you use them? Would you want some? What sorts of beads do you like? No, I don't really use them, since I'm not crafty in the bead-making way.
Anyone here like caramels? Sea salted caramels?!?! Oh my god, I love salted caramels SO MUCH.
Would you like a hand dyed or hand painted scarf or wrap or other item? If so, what colors/designs/fabrics do you like? Sure, I'd love that! I like any natural fiber, and any color except tan or brown and that range. I favor pinks and reds.
This was a question before, but does anyone here like stones? Just pretty polished stones for use in whatever purposes? I like stones, but I'm afraid loose stones not in jewelry I'd kind of put in the knick-knack category, which means I'd just as soon do without the extra clutter. Hope that doesn't sound ungracious.
And another question; anyone like anything in particular from Think Geek? Weirdly, I've had my eye on the Come to the Dark Side Apron for a while.
Pinterest, do you have boards you want to share or are you following anyone with great boards you want to share? Yes, although they're a little bit sparse at the moment, as you can see.
Hi! Thanks for being my Witch! Just so you know: I'm pretty low maintenance, and will be happy with just about everything I get (exceptions: campaign materials for Rick Perry, Sarah Palin et al.; Dick Cheney's Memoir, anything trying to covert me to Christianity -- you get the idea). So don't worry, if you were!
I'm pretty new to BPAL and totally new to Switch Witch, so I have The Fear. Anyway, I thought I'd put the answers to the questions (the ones not on the questionnaire, I mean), in one handy dandy place. So here you are:
September 8 and 9 Questions:
Do you like to burn incense? If so, what are your favorite kinds...sticks? cones? resins? What are your favorite scents?
I'm actually not a huge fan of incense, although I do like burning oils. I have an oil burner for that purpose, in fact, that I got from The Body Shop. My favorite is Sweet Maple, I think it's called, and I also love lavender anything.
- Harry Potter - a fan? If so, what house are you? I read all the books and enjoyed the series, but I wouldn't call myself a fan, really. But I do know my house would be Ravensclaw.
- If you were to receive a gift card, what places would you like to get one from? Sephora! And also Ulta, The Container Store, iTunes, Amazon.com, Powells.com, and Bed Bath and Beyond.
Is there a particular myth/folktale/legend/fairytale/godstory that you're drawn to? No particular one, but I love all the Greek myths, especially any stories about Athena.
From the Weenie Update....what are you most wanting to try? Boo 2011, Pumpkin Princess, A Nocturnal Reverie, Ghosts in Love, and Autumn Cider.
Who's into nail polish? What colors/brands?
Love nail polish SO MUCH. My favorites are OPI and Butter London, and I like Essie, Sally Hansen, and Zoya too. Colors: anything red or blue, and some dark greens.
Is there a quote (or lyric or part of a poem) that really resonates with you or is your favorite? She waited for the train to pass. Then she said, "I sometimes think that people’s hearts are like deep wells. Nobody knows what’s at the bottom. All you can do is imagine by what comes floating to the surface every once in a while." — Haruki Murakami, Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman. I also love the Yusef Komunyakaa poem "Anodyne," found here, especially the last three lines.
Dream candle? Scent, color, type (tealight, votive, pillar, jar, etc.), throw... I like some scented candles, but DELIVER ME from the horror that is Yankee Candle. Right now, my favorite is an opoponax candle from Diptyche.
Do you like knitted goodies? If so, what would you like and what colors? I do! I love scarves and knitted (or crocheted) animals. My favorite colors are pink and red.
Would you be interested in homemade edibles that are NOT sweets? Any specifics? Sure, absolutely! As long as no mushroom, which I'm allergic to. Oh, and this is very very weird, but: I have a weird phobia about soup. Don't ask.
What GC do you live in mortal terror of the lab discontinuing, but never get around to buying? Aizen-Myoo. Speaking of which, I have to get around to it.
Yo, yarnies! Do you Ravelry? If so, who are you over thar? Yes, I do! I'm holborne there, too.
Social Media? Yep -- Twitter (holborne), Facebook (my real name), and Google+ (my real name). Also Tumblr (www.frothyparadise.com)
Do you have wishlists for non-BPAL e-tailers? And if so, could you provide a link or a list? I do have an amazon wishlist: here. and an etsy wishlist here.
Witchee, do you use a PC or a Mac? Mac at home.
What is your favorite animal? Dogs, foxes, wombats. Yes, I love wombats!
What are you going to be for Halloween? I suppose this will make people look at me funny but: I hate dressing up in costumes. So I'm going as a lawyer, ha ha.
If you could have a piece of oil painting jewelry (pendant, pair of earrings, or ring) with absolutely anything painted on it, what would it be? (If you prefer wall art instead, same question as above.) I don't have anything specific I'd like to see, really.
How do you feel about knick-knacks? In principle I don't mind them, but my house is v cluttered, so limiting them is a good thing for me. And while we're on the subject, I know this will probably not be a popular statement, but: I LOATHE steampunk. Sorry, but I do.
What traditions (family, holiday, or otherwise) are important to you? I love Thanksgiving; we have a big one with a ton of people both in and out of the family. I'm also fond of breaking the fast on Yom Kippur. Gee, notice a food theme?
Do you like going to the movies? I do!
What are your favorite restaurants? Hoo boy, too many to name. I'll just go by cuisine: my favorites are Thai, pizza, any Italian, Indian, Chinese, Mediterranean, and Korean BBQ. I'm also fond of Olive Garden. Truly.
Do you play any video games? Do we count iPhone apps? If yes, then I play Angry Birds and Cut the Rope.
Do you like any anime? I like some of Hiyao Miyazaki's stuff, but that's about it.
Do you have an E-reader/iPad/something similar that you need a cover/case for? I have a Nook, but believe it or not, I don't care for any cases I've used for it, and prefer just throwing it in my knitting bag.
how much do you like jewelry? like, if you were to get a shit ton of it during the round, how excited would you be? LOVE, and VERY EXCITED.
How would you like to receive some of your Witch's favorite recipes, tailored to your likes/dietary restrictions? And specific wants? Sure, sounds great!
Do you need any boxes to store your smellies in? What would you store in said hypothetical box--imps, bottles, supplies, all of the above? Yes, I totally need boxes, and was just noting yesterday that I have only one decent one! I would store bottles; imps I tend to just keep wrapped in bubble wrap in a tin or something.
Muppets: yea or nay? Not really -- a little too sunny for my taste. I like some of the Sesame Street Muppets of the days of yore, but please keep Elmo away from me, and I never liked The Muppet Show.
Do you have an affinity for Calvin and Hobbes, Peanuts, The Far Side, and other comic strips? If so, which is your favorite? Love Peanuts SO MUCH. Also, Bloom County, though I'm dating myself there.
Favorite Mythological Creature?: Io as a heifer.
Do you like hair things barrettes, headbands, flowers. No, I don't really use them, as I just like to wear my hair loose.
Expanding on the hair question - does anyone like those flower clips for the hair that are big right now?? I didn't even know about them!
If you RP, tabletop, forum, or otherwise... Do you have any original characters you'd like to see art of? If so, please give information! Even if it's a link to a web page or a profile or picture! Haven't RPed for many many years.
If you could see anything, what would it be? Can be a person, an event, a landmark or monument, an object, etc. And it doesn't have to be on this planet, or in this time period, or in this reality! Hoo boy, that's a pretty hard question. I think I'd love to see a Shakespeare play performed at the Globe Theater during Shakespeare's lifetime. But I'm sure I could think of other things too.
When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? First, take a shower. Then, I like to lie on the bed and read a true crime book. Really. Go figure.
What are your thoughts on comics? Any you like? Any you have been wanting to try? Favorite characters? I used to be a big indie comics fan, but I've had less and less time for them as life went on. I have an original drawing of Milk and Cheese on my wall, and I love Evan Dorkin in general. I also used to be kind of obsessed with Roberta Gregory's Naughty Bits and Peter Bagge's Hate.
Are you musical? Do you play an instrument, and if so, what? If not, what do you wish you could play or do? I actually studied to be an opera singer a million years ago, and was accepted to Boston University School of Music but decided not to go. I've sung in various choruses over the years, including at NYC's Mostly Mozart Festival a couple of times. I play piano very poorly, and wish I could take it up again.
Does anyone garden? And if you do, what do you grow? If not, would a starter garden kit be something you'd be interested in? My thumb is um shall we say not green. I can deal with a few houseplants, but that's it.
Do you decorate for Halloween? Is your decorating taste elegant, kitschy and fun, or scary? I don't really decorate for Halloween, unless you count a zillion bags of fun-sized Snickers and their wrappers all over my desk as decoration.
Witchee, do you have any symbols or totems that have special meaning for you? Not so much, although my friends know that I love sheep and lambs.
Is anyone fond of programs like Adopt a Tree/Highway/Library/Manatee/Acre of Rainforest/etc?:
I love Heifer International.
September 12th
Would you like to receive e-books? And if so, in what format? Sure, I'd love it! I use a Nook, which accepts Nook format and epub format.
If you have kids, would you be interested in getting things for them? And if so, what are they interested and what sizes are the wearing now? No, I don't have kids.
Would you be interested in a felted handbag? Do any of these styles appeal to you? http://tinyurl.com/3o2epzl (there's at least one guy-friendly style, too!) Weirdly, although I love knitting and crafts, I'm sort of indifferent to felted bags.
Are there are patterns, motifs, etc that you especially like? Paisley, believe it or not. I also love leopard print. I am: tacky.
Witchee, would you be interested in having a special tea cup/coffee mug/glass to drink out of? Sure! Glass would be best, as I don't tend to use mugs so much.
If you're a tea drinker, is there any specific tea you would like to receive, not just the kind/flavor but also the type/packing--i.e., tea bags, loose tea, compressed, etc? I prefer loose tea when I drink it at all, as I can throw it in my tea ball.
Can you sum yourself (whether it be personality, life's goals, ethics, whatever) in 10 words or less? Sorry, no.
How about little bottles of booze? Ya wanna? What kind? Thanks, but I'm not a drinker at all.
What are your views on fudge and brownies? (Also, if you live in a warm place, where the fudge might melt, that'd be helpful to know. Or, if you're diabetic and fudge is death, that'd be useful to know, too.) LURVE both fudge and brownies. And my brownies I like fudgy, not cakey.
Also, what about mochi? Love it, hate it, baffled by it? I love mochi, although I've never looked at it quite the same way after hearing that in Japan a bunch of elderly people choke on it every year.
Does anyone like kimchi? Love it, but I'm kind of picky about the kinds I'll eat.
Would you be interested in a sample box(from somewhere like Birchbox or loosebutton)? I actually just cancelled my Birchbox, as it grew stupider and stupider. However, I love boxes full of nice cosmetics and skincare done with me in mind!
Paintbox Soapworks - anything you're interested in, in general or from the latest update? OMG, I didn't even know about that shop, so thanks to whoever pointed it out! I just added a bunch of them to my etsy wishlist, which you can find here.
Questions from other days, I sort of lost track:
You have to place a Lab and Trading Post order. Right fuckin' now. No spending limits. What do you buy? Bottles of: Aizen-Myoo, Snake Oil, Belle Epoque, The Great Sword of War, Marquise de Merteuil, Jazz Funeral and Kill Devil. Also backups of Dorian, Bien Loin d'Ici, and Horreur Sympathique. Also, any of the scent lockets except, you guessed it, the steampunk one. That would actually be enough; I don't like to order everything I want right away because where's the fun in that?
How do you feel about notebooks/journals/stationery? Anything you need or particularly like? I love Moleskine notebooks; I have one with Snoopy on it that's one of my favorite things.
Does confetti/glitter make you angry or fill you with glee? Oh no no no no no no no. No glitter, please.
How do you feel about stuffed animals/plushies/general soft, cuddly things? If you like them, what kind of animals would you be interested in? I actually love stuffed animals, but just gave many many of them away because I didn't have room. I kept a few favorites, and that's about all I have room for right now.
how interested would you be on somewhat personalized bottle cap labels? Pretty, but honestly I don't think I'd use them.
When you're miserably sick (*sniffle, cough!*) what are the things that comfort you the most? Pseudoephedrine and sleep. Nothing else really works.
What constitutes ultimate luxury to you? (go crazy!) A big bed with tons of pillows, someone cheerfully bringing me everything I need so I don't have to get up if I don't want, and uninterrupted time to read in bed.
What do you really NOT want? Anything Steampunk. Or an envelope full of glitter, I suppose. Oh, and I love licorice, but can't eat it for health reasons. And my husband dislikes it, so I'm afraid it would go to waste if you sent it.
Thank you for being my Fox! Here are my answers to the questions so far. If there's anything else you'd like to know that I'm not answering here, please ask!
So... someone has gifted you a $20 gift card from Walgreen's to ONLY use on things for yourself. No necessities here. What do you buy? A Yes to Carrots Body Butter, a bag of Snickers (the fun size, not the wimpy itty-bitty square things), and a Milani Liquif'Eye eye pencil in Black.
I live near a brick and mortar location for a really, really good spice store. Would you use cooking spices and if you would, what would you need? (It's Penzey's if you want to Google it.) I live near another really good spice place, so I usually get my stuff there, but thanks!
Do you like knitted goods? If so, what would you like, what colors, and do you have any sensitivities or preference when it comes to type of yarn (ex: wool: yay or nay? Do you prefer machine washable materials? Do you not care?)?
I knit myself, so I love knitted goods! I adore alpaca, but I love any kind of wool. I tend to hand wash everything and not send much to the laundry, so hand washable or machine washable is fine!
Hey swap partner... could you use a new mug? No, I don't use mugs very often.
Is there any sort of regional food/drink/treat you miss or have always wanted to try? Nothing that can be shipped, really.
Do you do a Christmas tree? If yes is it themed or specially colored or do you just have all different ornaments and such? I actually don't do a tree, mostly because I'm too lazy but also because I was raised Jewish and just never really felt a huge need to have one.
Tim Tams. Yay or nay? Love them!
Now, a question of my own: I know some people are squicked out at the idea of eating things that other people make, or the thought of deep fried cookies sends them into cardiac arrest. If you were my fox, would you like to receive some homemade goodies, or would you prefer that your goodies came from the store? I love getting homemade goods! But I certainly don't insist on it -- if you're not a cook or baker, that's fine!
Would any Bunny like to receive Holiday serving bowls, trays, platters etc...? Winter/Christmas or Thanksgiving/Fall themed? Honestly, I don't think anything like that would get much use in my house, but thanks!
My lovely fluffy Snow Bunny, would you like a body scrub made by me? If so, what scent(s) would you like, if you had to think along the lines of essential oils? And would you prefer sugar or salt? A dryer scrub or one that's more oily/moist? Sure, I'd love that! I love lavender and vanilla scents for bath products, and I prefer sugar (easier on the skin). I'd also prefer drier to moister, as my skin is oily-ish.
Dear snow bunny, do you like candles? If yes, then what kind? Scented (what scents), unscented, what colors, do you like them plain/painted on the outside/with decorations attached to the surface/sculpted? I do like candles. My favorite one right now is an opoponax scented one, and it's just white in a glass container.
Also what do you think of little soaps? I know most people don't use soaps nowadays but I love the chocolate/vanilla/cocoa/butter/sugar combo scents that I see at beauty stores.... As I said in the thread, I use them! I love fancy hand soaps, and actually, I haven't used plain soap in years. I love cocoa butter anything, and I also have a geranium soap I'm very fond of (I don't recall the brand -- I think I got it at Whole Foods).
Socks! Slippers! Do you love them or not really wear them? If you love them, do you also love Sock Dreams? I love slippers, but am too lazy to buy them for myself. I also love fuzzy socks to pad around the house in when it gets cold. I've never ordered from Sock Dreams, but their stuff looks fab.
Would you wear something like this if your Fox were to knit you one? If so, what color? Totally! I love deep reds, very dark greens, dark grey, black.
New question: talk to me of coffee. Whole bean? Ground? Flavored, not flavored? Decaf, whole caff? Favorite roasters? Drip, french press, keurig? BRING ON THE TEA?
Oddly, I don't really like hot drinks. I almost never drink coffee, and I drink tea really only when I'm not feeling well. I will drink almost any flavor of tea, although I don't care much for fruity ones.
Who else here loves or would like to try Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics? If so, what would you like? Love them so much! I like any of the lip tars in the red/pink range.
Have you tried anything from Cocoa Pink and if so, what products and scents do you like or would like to try? I have not, but some of their scents look very nice. Almost anything foodie appeals to me, except coffee and generally apple, although there are exceptions to the latter.
Anybody into nail polish? Any color or formula preferences? Love nail polish SO MUCH. My favorites are OPI and Butter London, and I like Essie, Sally Hansen, and Zoya too. Colors: anything red or blue, and some dark, blackened greens.
If you found a $50 bill on the ground and were to place a Lab order, what would be in it? (And shipping is free through the magical BPAL unicorn!) One bottle each of Halloween Las Vegas and Black Apple of Saturn. That leaves me $10, right? So that would go toward a bottle of Aizen-Myoo.
Is there any particular holiday DVD that you don't have that you would like to own? Nope, I have my two favorites: A Christmas Story and Bad Santa.
How do you feel about superheros? Are you a Marvel or DC fan? Do you have a favorite hero? I used to be a big Marvel fangirl, but haven't been for many years now. When I was, though, I loved Daredevil. Yeah, I know, pretty weird, but at least it wasn't The Silver Surfer.
Would my bunny like anything in particular from Lush? I do have access to an actual Lush store, and also wouldn't mind ordering retro items online. Not a big fan of Lush, actually. I don't mind Lemony Flutter, but that's about it.
Would you like a Paintbox from Paintbox Soapworks? If so, which scents? I didn’t even know about that shop before Switch Witch, so thanks to whoever pointed it out! I just added a bunch of stuff from there to my etsy wishlist.
Do you have kids (or kid-like pets) who your fox may want to take into account, either in terms of a little extra goody or simple safety? I have two cats, but they're good for stuff right now.
How do you feel about honey/beeswax? Would you like any? I love honey, especially the lighter, more flowery varieties. I also like beeswax in many forms, such as the hand lotion that's basically a lump of beeswax.
Are you a Trader Joe's fan, who either doesn't have a store nearby or just loves their stuff and has a wishlist? Love Trader Joe's, but it's right near my office so I don't need anything from there.
The Paintbox Soapworks Yules are up, or at least round one is (updates coming throughout the week). Interested in anything? Yes, and I've put them on my etsy wishlist! (Victorious Sun and Comfort and Joy stuff, if you don't feel like looking at etsy at the moment.)
If I were to place ONE LAST Weenie order, (uh, which I will) what would you want me to include for you? Halloween Las Vegas, Nothing but Death, and Boo 2011. I've ordered a bottle of the first two but not the last one.
Will you be away for any part of the round? I'm not planning to be.
Anyone else with an Etsy store and a member of Tradeaholics (or you could join) and interested in bartering for gifts for their bunny? Everything in my shop is up for trade. Alas, I have no Etsy store, as most of the stuff I make tends to come out either bent or six months behind schedule, or both.
What type of books do you like? Dying to read anything? I generally like literary fiction. If you're a member of Goodreads, you can stalk me, here. Right now, I'm reading "The Marriage Plot" by Jeffrey Eugenides.
If you like Christmas music (or any other holiday music, for that matter), what kind of style do you like? Traditional? Modern and poppy? Indie? I'm kind of eh on Christmas music. I blame this on my in-laws, who never stop blaring the stuff from about October 1 onwards.
Do you enjoy things that taste like roses? For example chewing gum, turkish delight, delicious goo that you eat by the spoonful out of a glass jar (and they all taste of rose. Yes, we have all these in Greece.) I LOVE LOVE LOVE rose flavor! In fact, just last night I had a rose macaron that was to die for. And delicious goo that you eat out of a glass jar!!
Also, same question about mastic. Would you be interested in trying it out? (If yes, any preferences? for example you wold prefer to try the chewing gum, the turkish delight, an Easter bun (I can go hunting, some companies make them all year round although it's not the same as the bakery Easter ones), the raw resin itself, anything?) Never heard of it before now, but I'd definitely like to try it.
I live in the city of the chicken wing. If I were to send you something savory, what's your heat tolerance (or sweet and heat for that matter)? My heat tolerance is quite high. Like, on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd put it at an 8.5 or so.
If your fox/bunny were to gift you with a gift card from anywhere, as in any store food-wise, music wise etc., what gift card would you like? iTunes, Amazon, or Powells.com.
If I were to send you chocolate is there anything I should avoid as in nuts, cherries etc.? Also, what are some of your favorite holiday candies? I love nuts in my chocolate, especially almonds or hazelnuts. I actually don't care very much for dark chocolate, oddly enough.
Does anything from Fusion Sweets interest you? Just about anything from there EXCEPT anything coffee-flavored. Yuck yuck yuck.
Interested in anything from the Elements and Artifacts Yule update? Not so much, no -- they're very pretty but not all that much my style.
What was the best holiday present you ever got? A pair of earrings from my husband -- white gold with teeny diamonds.
Bunny, what scent are you desperately wanting to be resurrected this year with the Anniversary update? I haven't been into BPAL for long enough to have an answer for this one! I guess I'd love to see what Gluttony smelled like.
Groupon for Moxie Nouveau! Dear Bunneh, is this something that would interest you? Their stuff looks great, so sure!
Bun-bun, what's your favourite colour? Your favourite gemstone? Your favourite animal (real or imaginary)? And do you have any intense phobias?
Color: Anything in the red and pink range.
Gemstone: Hard to pick one, but I'd say pink tourmaline or blue topaz. I also love garnet.
Animal: Fox! I love foxys. I also love wombats (truly). I love most cats and all dogs. Ok, most dogs.
Phobia: Clowns. Seriously, they make my stomach hurt.
Reveal, yes or no? I would prefer my Fox to reveal, but will be cool if she doesn't want to. I plan to reveal, as I think that's part of the fun.
Nano'ing? No, I'm more of a reader than a writer.
Do you like/need boxes for perfume/knicknacks? I do, in fact! The only kind I'd sort of prefer not to receive is plain, unfinished wood, as I'm not crafty in that way and I think I'd feel guilty every time I looked at it that I hadn't done something to it yet.
Charity gifts? Either fair-trade type stuff, or virtual type gifts, like vaccinations or school supplies being bought on your behalf, or something along those lines? I'm pretty particular about the charities I'll support. A couple that come to mind are Heifer International and Puppies Behind Bars.
Bunny, are you interested in tarts from Two Timing Tart? What scents, if any, are you interested in? Her stuff sounds great! Peacock Plumes, Innocence, Silk Sheets, and Mae West's Diamonds all sound very nice.
Do you need any holiday recipes? Is there something in particular that you'd like baked or made for you? And for those of you doing the no sugar/low sugar, etc. thing these days, how about savory things? I'm a baker, so I'm good for holiday recipes. I do not believe in low/no sugar, since I have a raging sweet tooth. And I can't think of anything in particular I'd like to have baked -- anything my Fox wants to make me would be great!
Are you a big ol' nerd for any particular subject? Science, math, linguistics, etc? Or particular authors/fandoms? Don't know if this counts, but I'm a big true crime geek. I not only read books of that genre, but I also like more scholarly treatments of crime and criminal justice. Examples of the former are Fatal Vision by Joe McGuinness; examples of the later are The Collapse of American Criminal Justice by William Stuntz.
Lemon? Yes, I LURVE anything lemon! I'd probably eat lemon-flavored bacon and I'm not kidding.
Pink? Happens to be my favorite color! Well, that and red.
Do you like artisan oils and vinegars? You know, I actually am very picky about the olive oils I'll use, and I'm not incredibly crazy about most artisan vinegars. But thanks!
What are your opinions on traditional holiday cookie flavorings? I'm thinking anise and cardamom in particular. I love both those flavors, particularly anise.
Any crafty pursuits you’ve been dying to experiment with? Would you like a little kit of something you’ve never tried? Do you need any particular items for your new or existing stash? Only about a million. I'd love to learn how to make soaps. Also, I really am a very poor seamstress, so I'd love to learn how to sew better (needle and thread, not a machine -- no room for a machine, alas), and I'd love to brush up my embroidery skills which um what's the word I'm looking for oh yes SUCK. I'm always open to receiving Lion Brand Vanna's Choice yarns -- it's acrylic, but it comes in an amazing range of colors and I use them to make amigurumi, so I really can use just about any color at all, including ones I normally don't care for like tan and olive green.
Bunny, could you use a 2012 calendar, and, if so, do you like big monthly ones or the page-a-day type? Funny question for me, because I'm totally disorganized and spent literally years trying to train myself to use calendars. I tried cute ones, arty ones, expensive ones -- I'd buy the damn things and never use them. What finally did it for me: the iPhone. That's the only calendar I've ever actually been able to use in a way that works for me. So that's a long way of saying, No, I don't think calendars would really be useful for me, but thanks!
Let's talk about fruit! Do you like dried fruit or hate it? Like some but not others? I love pretty much any dried fruit, with the possible exception of papaya.
How do you feel about cherries? Prefer the sweet or tart versions? Dried? Jam? Salsa? Hot sauce? BBQ sauce?
I love all the cherries! I do prefer tart, though. I love them in just about any form, although I do confess to being slightly dubious about cherry salsa.
What is your general philosophy about patterns for accessories such as socks, scarves, and tights? Do you like solids? Stripes? Polka dots? Weird patterns like harlequin-type stuff? Any of the above? I prefer solid or ribbed tights. I'm a little less conservative with socks, and I love polka dots in general. Weird patterns don't suit me very well. I also would prefer solid scarves, although I'd be fine with a self-striping yarn in a pretty color.
Would anyone else be interested in a soap dish or something like that? I'm good for those, but thanks!
Sooo. Yules. Those just happened. What are you interested in, Bunny? I ordered about a thousand decants (17, to be exact). I'm really looking forward to trying Pink Snowballs, Beautiful and Adored, and The Deepest Mysteries of Creation, among others, but those are the ones that come to mind.
Do you like coin purses? I have nothing against them, but I really wouldn't use one.
Do you prefer dark or milk chocolate? Milk. Milk milk milk. I don't care very much for dark chocolate, actually.
fingerless mittens or full mitts? Definitely fingerless.
Chile, yay or nay? Definitely yay chiles!! I love hot anything.
Would you rather have an early reveal, or would you prefer one close to the end of the round? Whatever my witch wants to do will be cool, but honestly my preference is for a late reveal.
Continuing with SW questions, as the other entry started to get v long:
September 10th
What #1 actor, director, author and/or musician are you obsessed with? Oh, there are a bunch! If we're talking about this month, I'm obsessed with old movie star Robert Ryan. In the past, I've been obsessed with Toshiro Mifune and Akira Kurosawa, not necessarily in that order.
are you interested in anything from the Villainness Bad Apples update? Just the Black Apple of Saturn, as apple scents often disagree with me, I'm afraid.
If you have a pet, would he/she/they like to receive a treat or a toy as a gift? Does your pet have any dietary restrictions or other preferences w.r.t. said treat? My boy loves toys -- mostly soft things that he can knock around and bite on. My girl is kid of indifferent to most toys, but she will play with a soft ball occasionally.
What are your top three "I want to try them but I think I'll never get to try them" (or, "I've tried them and I want moar moar moar, but I don't think I'll ever get any") scents/bath oils/sprays? Anything from The Morbid the Merrier (but especially Drosta), Scents by the Sea, or House of Gloi (the former two are on Etsy).
Is there a particular artist and piece that you would like a print of? If so, what is your max size that you could spare on your walls? Can't think of anything.
If you are in to beauty and makeup related stuff, what kind of stuff do you like? What is your skintone and hair color? Are there any beauty products you've wanted to try but just never purchase? I have a very unhealthy obsession with makeup -- I love it. I love NYX stuff, but for whatever stupid reason, it's not available in the NYC area. Like, at all. I'm fair-skinned (really, I'm not one of those people who's become fair since it started to be fashionable), and I have dark brown hair. I also LOVE lip balms, as long as they don't have peppermint. I have about 354 of the things lying around the house and office.
Do you like coffee or tea? Would you be interested in trying some different types? Glad someone asked! I don't like coffee very much, and I'm ok with tea, but weirdly, I don't like hot drinks especially. However, my husband loves tea, so if you send it, someone in the house will appreciate it! Also I do like it when I have a cold.
Are there any CDs/Albums you've been wanting but haven't bought yet? What format do you prefer? (i.e. mp3, actual cd, record, etc) Can't think of anything at the moment, but in general, I prefer mp3 format.
Are you going away for any part of this round? I'm not.
Would you like to receive a mix-CD from your Witch? Sure!
If your witch were going somewhere on a vacation during the round, would you want a little souvenir? I can't think why not.
Do you enjoy any outdoor activities? Do you have a favorite form of "exercise"? I'm actually kind of an indoor person, but I have a ton of workout DVDs and I have a hula hoop. With the funniest hula hoop DVD you've ever seen.
Any witchee's with a ravelry account have any favourited patterns that cost money that would be a welcome gift? I do have a Ravelry account (holborne there too) and it just so happens that I have a list of favorite patterns, some of which cost a few bucks.
Do you work/study at a desk and enjoy interesting or cute office supplies? Yes, and yes!
Witchee, are you a fan of musicals? If so, which ones? I am, in general, but older musicals. Think Rogers and Hammerstein instead of Les Mis or Phantom of the Opera. Actually, I detest Andrew Lloyd Webber. Anything by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I love Sondheim, and when I'm feeling anxious I tend to walk around singing "They Call the Wind Maria" (that's from Paint Your Wagon).
