It's really important that Freeway eat. I even resorted to making Holly a tasty blend of plain yogurt, small pieces of cooked chicken, Fancy Feast and aluminum hydroxide; I'd throw it all in my mini-chopper to blend it.

Are you giving him anything to settle his stomach? It may be that he's nauseous all the time and that's affected his appetite. Another thing to check is his mouth. CRF cats seem to be prone to mouth ulcers; they're not hard to heal and they make it painful for a cat to eat.

Thank you Anne. After I posted this I was able to entice him to eat. We've bought a digital bathroom scale. It isn't entirely accurate but I weigh myself, then me with Freeway. We've been doing it the last few days and he is a bit up from last week. The vet gave us a couple things to help with nausea but one is a mint flavored liquid and he foamed at the mouth when we gave it to him. Since I was holding him next to my ear when we did that I got loud foamy kitty spit flung about. We're giving him his pills for nausea but not the liquid, which is fine because he does seem to feel a bit better.

It's been intense, stressful with Freeway and stressful at work. And stuff going on around here so it's not easy at times. I'll get through.

As a fellow cat lover, I wanted to send you my best wishes for Freeway; I hope he regains some appetite and energy. It is tough when a beloved pet is seriously ill. You never know, though; just when it seems like the end is near, they sometimes rally. This happened with a cat of mine who had diabetes and inflammatory bowel syndrome; he lived two years longer than we thought he would.

It sounds like you are taking wonderful care of your cat, and I'm sure he'd thank you if he could.

Thank you Parrot_suspect. He's starting to eat again. He used to eat a lot, was quite a porker in his younger days. They charged extra baggage when they flew him from San Francisco to LA, prior to flying him here. I know it's age, but it is hard to see someone you love so much gradually shed weight, then get the diagnosis of renal failure was really hard. I went into denial for a little while. I'm out of that phase and am learning the ins and outs of Freeway when he is feeling sick and Freeway when he is feeling better. I've learned the CRF kitty tricks of mixing water in his wet food and heating it up, of separating him to eat, of feeding him whenever he looks halfway interested in food. When he stopped eating I spoon and finger fed him smoked roe and canned food for a day, right after writing this blog, and he's doing better now.

We've picked up a digital bathroom scale and are daily weighing me, then Freeway (best 2 out of 3 kind of thing for accuracy as best we can). I know he'll have daily fluctuations but he's gone from 4.35 kilos on the 13th at the vet's to 4.55 on the 20th. Yesterday we made it up to 4.7!

I think BPAL needs a range of 'pet' scents, especially a "white light/energy for pet" scent.
