Two pieces of fabulous advice came from the pre-flight safety instructions on airplanes:

 

1. Your nearest exit may be behind you.

 

2. In the unlikely event of a drop in cabin pressure, secure your own oxygen mask before attempting to assist others.

 

Never been in a plane crash, but those instructions have proved tremendously useful in other applications.
