Original GNOME Questionnaire!
BASIC INFO
Pronouns: she/her
Birthday: july 25 (leo sun, aquarius moon, capricorn rising)
Pets: 2 shorthair cats. tortuga is an outstanding standard tortoiseshell and pickles is a dilute tortie. both love seafood/catnip flavored treats and regular catnip. I also feed some feral friends who hang out around my backyard, they like treats and nip too.
Children: nope
Religious orientation (if any and if you want to share) "be excellent to each other"
Favorite Holiday: halloween is the very best
SWAP SPECIFIC STUFF:
Do you collect gnomes of any sort or have any gnome-affinity?
- I do not collect gnomes but they are great! I have the Lawn Gnome scent from BPAL and it is a good one.
Do you celebrate any spring holidays or traditions?
- cleaning the ceiling fan blades and air return vents, lol. clearing away garden clutter and waiting for my perennials to pop back up.
What sorts of "earth" gifts would most resonate with you? Do you collect rocks? Bugs? Plants and plant accessories? Please give all the info about your likes/style
- I have attempted over the last five years to turn my front and back yard into native plant zones, and it's a bit messy/very haphazard but I love it. I do also enjoy rocks and crystals, Missouri has lots of naturally occurring quartz. I try to keep some houseplants but I am terrible at it. I would definitely appreciate a small lawn gnome, or window clings/suncatchers that are plant themed. if you want to send a small plant, I'd advise against anything more needy than succulents or snake plants, unless it can thrive outside in missouri. also don't want any houseplants that are not pet friendly because my cats will chew on fallen (and sometimes still attached) leaves, bless them.
What are some of your favorite "precious treasures"?
- my BPAL stash is my precious for sure. I have a plain wooden storage box from ikea that would be fun to paint/decorate but I haven't gotten around to that.
- I like eclectic wall art, will gladly take more of that, but would also appreciate picture frames of various sizes or gift cards for same.
- my cats and my plants make me happy :')
SNEEFS! fave/least fave BPAL scents:
- I have such a hard time with favs lists, I love everything but I love it differently! I have my scent note prefs and BPAL wishlist in my signature of course, will keep working on getting that up to date in january, however I have been working on my top ten for 2022 I can share!
Highlights:
Finally fell for Snake Oil blends this year. Snow White is (s)no(w) go.
Gonna be more careful with/maybe avoid tonka/amber/sandalwood and keep an eye out for more vetiver/peony/carnation/ambrette.

Do you like jewelry?
- yes. I will get some good examples on my etsy wishlist by end of january.
what types do you wear?
- mostly I wear earrings, but I also like rings and necklaces for dressing up, on rare occasions.
What sizes/lengths?
- cocktail rings can be 6.25 thru 9.
- for necklaces, I like a large pendant on a longer length chain, or a bigger statement-type necklace on a shorter chain.
- I can do post earrings, front/back earrings, and dangly or hoop earrings.
favorite metals/gemstones?
- slight preference to gold/copper tone but will wear silver as well. I love all the gem tones, but certainly don't expect precious gems. I don't wear much turquoise tho.
LITERATURE
What format do you prefer your books to take? (actual book? e reader? type?)
- I love to get physical books but for some reason I can only read fiction that way, and not consistently, so my main thing is audiobooks. I'm mainly on libro.fm right now having cancelled all things amazon, including my audible subscription, but I can still get audible books via my email address.
What sorts of things do you enjoy/not enjoy reading?
Insert Goodreads or other book wishlist here
- I don't have a book wishlist but I tend to enjoy historical fiction and witchy/vampiric sorts of stories, especially historical fiction about witches and vampires. (The Witches of New York by Ami McKay and The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson are two witchy examples)
- I like scifi/fantasy and nonfiction as well. no jk rowling. (loved the Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisin and High on the Hog by Jessica B. Harris)
SNACKY TREATS
Food restrictions?? (GF? Vegetarian? Vegan?)
- lactose intolerance! it's the worst. nothing from an udder for me: milk/cream/cheese/butter/whey. I'm not vegan but certainly vegan things are safe for me, so that makes it easier than reading all the labels.
Favorite flavors, foods, snacks or treats?
- I love licorice allsorts and chocolate and pickles and spicy nonsense and salt/vinegar and marshmallows and chocolate.
- these almonds and cacao nibs OMG. this is a local chocolate shop that is great.
Least favorite flavors?
- I will eat almost anything. I am certainly forgetting something here but my main restriction is no dairy. unfortunately milk still gets added to dark chocolate sometimes, so keep an eye on that kindly. I also love caramel but that is usually milk as well. boo!
Coffee/Tea/Booze?
Coffee - whole bean? ground? roast??
- I like light roast and I have a french press but lately I just drink instant coffee because I am the laziest
Tea? loose leaf? bags? green? black? tissanes? flavored?
- I like tea! preference for herbal, but black tea is fine. I don't drink much green unless it's sencha and I have a bunch of that. loose leaf and bags are both good.
Alcohol?? if so favorite kind/flavors??
- I don't drink nearly as much as I used to, but I am extremely interested in homemade infusions/liqueurs, if that is a thing you do. my fav spirits are whisky/rye/bourbon/scotch (the brown medicines!) and tequila/mezcal.
How do you feel about receiving homemade food items? (baked goods, jam, dried fruit, liqueur samples, etc)
- yes yes yes please! as long as it is not a terrible bother to make it dairy free.
OTHER
What are five small/inexpensive things you always appreciate receiving?
- I love all the silly stationery things: fun notepads, cards, pens, stickers, washi tapes. I also fold a lot of origami birds. (I love the 3x3 packs from this shop - but standard 6x6 paper is also great.) I like baking and I like the silicone mats/molds/etc.
Do you have any allergies, intolerances or lifestyle restrictions/requirements or just simple dislikes which were not otherwise covered elsewhere?
- I like usable gifts and hangable art, since I'm a terrible clutterbug and can't keep any horizontal surfaces (desk, shelf, dresser, kitchen counter) clear for any length of time (and good god, the drawers!). if there is some sort of art/figure/trinket that would normally sit on a horizontal surface that you think would be excellent, go right ahead, but generally I try to avoid those.
- also I am a picky nonsense person about scented things. I love getting BPAL and I have also enjoyed stuff from PBSW (queen is dead, not your housekeeper), but I don't prefer to receive scented candles/wax melts/bath products/lotions that I haven't vetted. I do like most incense tho! any kind, sticks/cones/loose (I could use more of the charcoal guys for loose incense).
Is there anything you absolutely do NOT want to receive??
- milk, lol. would prefer no OCYL perfumes unless specified.
Please place your wishlists and moodboards here (or link them in your signature)
- signature has my etsy list!
Anything else you want to say to your swapper???
- thank you! have fun! my answers to in thread questions shall be updated in blog form and I will link it.
Additional GNOME Questions:
Would you like to receive Girl Scout cookies and if so, what kind is your favorite?
- yes to the yes! the new raspberry kind, and thin mints, and any other vegan/dairy free options.
Would you like a Gnome amigurumi? (smol knitted or crocheted gnome) If so, What gnome colors/patterns appeal to you? (three-four colors please)
- yes to the yes! any combo of green purple blue teal yellow grey (mustard, burnt orange, moss green, navy blue, plum). I like Never Not Gnoming and Gnome de Plume.
How about Gnome tea towel(s)?
- gno thank you
Would you like a cross stitched gnome picture / ornament?
- sure!
What's your favorite way to experience Nature? A hike in the woods, a day lounging on the beach, only as screen savers on your computer?
- I do love the beach, but I have to say I love hiking/walking around in the woods a bit more. I also like seeing my flowers bloom and seeing birds and butterflies and bees enjoying them, but I do not enjoy yardwork! also I love the Japanese section of the local botanical garden.
Question inspired by Robyn: what kinds of safety and environmental concerns need to be considered for your gnome so they can safely reside at your home? will they live outdoors so they need to be weatherproof (for what kind of weather)? will they be indoors and need to be pet or child-safe? do they need to be very tiny or capable of hanging on a wall?
- it would be super cool to have a garden gnome that could live outside, and I could move it around from spot to spot, but we get all the extremes in STL: hot, cold, wet, etc. I would also enjoy a small indoor guy that could hang out with the houseplants. I do have cats, so a breakable indoor gnome might be in danger.
How do you feel about zombie or other horror gnomes?
- Gno undead or gory gnomes, please.
New questions! Do you need any seeds? If so what varieties might you be interested in? Flowers, veg, herbs.. ?
- I can do with seeds. Wild alliums are fun. Gno vegetables. Purrhaps a catnip?
Would you like feathers from my Peacock, Gary (short for Gyrados)?
- GARY! Gary. Thank you for your kind offer, Gary, but I think my cat would just eat your feathers, so I shall decline.
Dear Gnomie, if BPAL is one of your treasures, which BPAL would you like the mostest? (Maybe one that is available right now from BPAL and one Limited Edition/Discontinued?)
- oooo I can't ever narrow things down properly so this is most difficult. I suppose now after the latest 15 minutes of fume I am kicking myself for not snagging Carved Wooden Bookstore, so there's one that's not even on my wishlist yet, and I starred some things on the wishlist that are most sought and also discontinued. note that in my questionnaire I said I would update my wishlist by the end of January so that it would have all the right things in the right order etcetera, so that will be in progress as promised.
If you are a tea drinker, which (if any) of these teas tickle your fancy?
- my question, haha. I would get myself a bit of Naughty Vicar! and I am sad the chocolate chai is sold out.
would you like a tiny hand drawn gnome picture?
- absolutely yes
Is homemade vanilla something you might like? I have a "Mother Jar" that I can decant from. These beans have been steeping for 2 years in a very nice bourbon.
- wow that would be like winning the damn lottery, yes!
Are there any colors you would prefer your gnome not to have?
- not anything neon or pastel or glittery. I like mustard, burnt orange, moss green, navy blue, plum, etc. a standard sortof guy with a blue jacket and red hat is perfectly fine, but I also like the idea of an earth element representation, like a mossy rock that is actually a gnome! or something. that is not really what you were asking tho.
If the creativity bites, would you possibly like a small embroidered gnome? Could be an ornament? Any gender preference or details you might like added (small mushroom, bee, heart or egg...)?
- that sounds great. I do like mushrooms and bees and snails and frogs.
Do you have a need for cheese knife? https://ototodesign.com/products/bert-cheese-knife?
- heh that is clever! but no.
I'll be in Seattle next week- any treat you might enjoy from the PNW? Spoopy/ Gothy things? Nice coffee beans? A Nirvana t-shirt...?
- I would not say no to nice coffee beans. I like a light roast.
I'll be back in Disney World next month- anything you might like from Epcot or Hollywood Studios?
- Gno thanks.
Would you be interested in a small copper nature totem that could nestle in your garden or amongst your plants? I can do some chasing to create a mushroom or a leaf or a special bug fren...
- now this sounds tremendous. a mushroom or a snail or a frog?
Would you be interested in a decorative pillow or zippered pouch featuring a gnomely figure?
- Gno thank you
I have an angora rabbit and she's currently molting. Would you like rabbit fur for spinning, felting, or other crafty uses?
- say hello to your soft bun! I don't have any use for her lovely fur tho.
Do you need any spices?
- need? not really. but I would not be mad if I received some.
How would you feel about gnome-inspired clothing?
- gno thank you
Any horror movie merch? If so, do you have a favorite horror movie / character?
- I'm not really a horror kiddo, but I do love me some Hannibal.
Haus of Gloi launched their Valentine goodies today. Anything appeal? https://www.hausofgloi.com/collections/valentines-1
- gno thank you
Nocturne Alchemy just released their Valentine collection. Is there anything that strikes your fancy?
- gno thank you
Any Paintbox Soapworks items you want? https://paintboxsoapworks.com/new-limited-edition/new/
- I always love to get PBSW sorbetto scrubs in Not Your Housekeeper or Cartographer Wasp scents. Technically I'd take the Queen is Dead as well but I have a big size one of those still unopened. Also would enjoy trying the Candyfloss soap and Princess Pony Sparklebutt perfume oil lol.
Are you interested in some of my homemade brown sugar shortbread? Flavors include "plain" vanilla, chocolate, orange blossom, cherry blossom, lavender, rose, combinations thereof.
- all the yes! orange blossom! lavender! lavender rose! chocolate cherry!
So if I were to send you a plant, would you prefer an air plant or a succulent??
- I have a bunch of succulents in various stages of neglect but I don't have any actual indoor cactus. that might be fun. already have a prickly pear outside.
Any candles you might like? Be sure to check her clearance for leftovers from Halloween! https://www.etsy.com/shop/TeresaLynnsSimpleLux
- gno thank you
Lupercalia went live. Anything catch your attention?
- I did not order A Medley of Vulvas and now I regret it.
What is your favorite animal?
- I want to hug every cat. I also like bees, but I don't want to hug them.
Is there anything you would love from San Diego?
- I left my heart in San Francisco, but that's probably too far out of the way. jk I do not know what I am missing in San Diego so I don't know how to answer this.
If you like ebooks, does that mean kindle? Google books? Another format I should be aware of? And so I don’t provide something you already have, what are some authors you would like to try?
- I can receive Kindle and Audible books, Google e-books and audio books, and Libro.fm audio books all at my email address. drawing a blank on authors! I should be better about keeping a list.
