This one is really...creepy. Carnation is kind of innocent smelling, like Alice was. But in Zarita, the orange blossom contributes a sort of high, grating aura, and the cream in combination makes for a rather cloying heavy sweetness. Zarita has all the right parts. Perfectly innocuous notes, unassuming description. And yet somehow, something more the sum of the parts isn't really there. This scent begs for attention but it doesn't have any synchronicity. It's jerky, artificial. Mechanical. Erm...sociopathic. *runs away*

I was a bit worried about this one going all Pink Marshmallow Poof on me. Straight, teeth clenchingly pure HELLO I'M SUGAR is not really my thing, BPAL wise. But I needn't have worried, because Velvet Unicorn has depth. It's not simply a piece of tooth decaying cotton candy. There's a...unicorn behind this scent. Really. Yeah, it's blinding and kind of glittery. But there is a unicorn there! Ethereal, big soft eyes, nervously pawing the ground wanting you to like it. This is actually very similar to what I think Boo would be like if you added strawberry candies and pink hearts and the essence of rainbows.

The Robotic Scarab
topazphoenix replied to Gwydion's topic in Phoenix Steamworks & Research Facility
LEATHER. And anise. And metallics. I guess I can detect the appeal of this..sometimes I think that scents have "objective" appeal or something, that it's possible for them to be gorgeous and unique, objectively, but for some unexplainable reason I find them boring. Robotic Scarab is one of those scents. Hopefully I can pass on the imp to someone who will love it in all ways like it deserves. And persianmouse's review is <3. -
Minty, floral, slightly fruity, dark purple, are my impressions. Mint and juniper and lotus. hm. It's an interesting combination.

The High Priest Not To Be Described
topazphoenix replied to Nightgaunt's topic in Discontinued Scents
Spicy, cinnamon-ish incense with musk. It's pleasant, but not really something I can see myself wearing. -
I'm getting a sweet, bubble gum-ish, fruity floral O. It's wistful and foreign and kind of the fresh faced greek girl in floral print cotton dress I'm gonna make you a balaclava just let me put on this checked apron and pin up my hair charmingly kind of exotic. I like it.

I'm getting kind of a ozone-y powdery darkness, if that makes sense. It's ok.
-
Sweet, light, woody...it's actually pretty hard to detect on my wrist. Definitely not digging the smelling like a church thing.
-
Okay. I never expected to say this, but yay for vetivert. There was some other scent I tried with that a while back...vetivert and violets. It was terrible. I have no idea why this is so much better, but the woody/burnt bacon thing is kind of nice. lol

This has gardenia, but it's not the sickly powdery gardenia death I'm accustomed to...the lavender fougere tempers it. Unfortunately it becomes aftershave-ish in the process.
-
This is a rather astringent smelling floral. Acidic, salty, aquatic.
-
This is definitely very masculine and quite aftershave-ish for me as well. It's too strong, too sharp.
-
My nose isn't sophisticated enough to pick up the medley of notes the description describes, but I also get ozone, like the previous reviewer mentioned. What makes this ozone unique for me is that it's not kick you in the face generic ozone, but rather soft ozone balanced by an almost musky sweetness. Unique.
-
I like the way the other notes balance the gardenia in this. I'm not a fan of strong gardenia because it's too powdery and cloying or something, but the other light florals and the light greenery make this quite ethereal, wistful, and beautiful. It's like being stranded in a forest with rays of light falling through the trees every once in a while. I think this one is a keeper... edit: Oh crap! This is turning out to be death by gardenia after all.

Very very dark green, without being sweet...but there's still a floral aspect...reminds me of the dandelion aspect I get from Tiger Lily and Roadhouse and Fairy Wine. For those of you that like truly green scents, I predict this will be a winner.

Rose...rose..and rose....but this is the most undead rose I have ever smelled. It's not dusty, or even well preserved in some long forgotten keepsake chest.....not spicy, but not fresh either...it just has some eternal quality...and pale...

I'm not sure what to think of this one. The clove is prominent at first but settles down and the florals and musk come out to play. This is a very womanly scent, and if it had a color, it would be dark red (the oil is very dark as well). Not sure if it's me but it's definitely very pretty and unique.
-
I am in LOVE with how corny this smells in the imp. My only wish is that it would stay that way on my skin, and not fade down to slightly sweet spice and vanilla. I hope age will make a different. That corn note will be mine!!
-
Unlike the previous reviewer, this one (09 version) is decidedly floral on my skin. The jasmine is tempered by a medley of other things I can't separate. I'm guessing this will be very pretty with a little aging.

As always, the lab does beautiful apple notes, but this one is unique in that it really does evoke spices and cream. My skin seems to eat it completely though.

I really hate to say it but the 09 version of Devil's Night spells like a plain white bar of soap with a hint of cinnamon on my skin. sigh.

This is pretty and eerie, clove and black musk and something vaguely metallic. It's not really my style though.
-
I love the tomato in this one. It's very strongly pitch-y at first but when it dries the most beautiful garden/pumpkin scent emerges. I think this is my favorite of the 09 pumpkins.

The black musk makes this pumpkin very dark and spicy, and the myrrh makes it slightly sweet. Mmm.

The musk and pumpkin is a good combination, and the honey peeks out a bit every couple of minutes to make itself known.
