The search for "Clean" scents - general discussion

I second the Morocco, for sure. Nero is quite masculine, if you ask me. But, it is clean and has an almost "creamy" note that is just out of this world...*dreamy sigh*. Dracul, as well, definintely fits into the "clean, but spicey" and I would recommend it for a woman over Nero anytime. The orange blossom keeps it light enough, without adding too much feminity. It's gorgeous and I will, from time to time, steal some from BS. It's my "ballbustah" scent.

    O

Okay, I have been meaning to write a review of this for a while, and I have finally gotten around to it. In the imp: Sweet honey with sexier-than-thou spice swirling around underneath. I also get a touch of sugary vanilla. Oh, delightful. On: This is fargin' sexy, baby! Sweet, sticky honey, warmed by vanilla and just the slightest hint of golden amber. There is also a very, very slight hint of the lightest body musk, which gives it a yummy, sexy "just had sex" feel. There is absolutely nothing "clean" about this scent. It is sticky, sweet and just naughty. Dry down: Honey, honey, honey and amber, baby. The vanilla is there, just under the surface, but I get all honey and sexy amber. This stage, the amber amps up a bit on my skin, so it's a more balanced foody/sexy scent. If you love honey, but find most perfumes with it as a main component are too "innocent", this is the perfume for you! Oh God...move over Snake Oil...Here's my new number one!! I feel the need for an ABBA Tribute: Honey honey, how you thrill me, ah-hah, honey honey Honey honey, nearly kill me, ah-hah, honey honey I’d heard about you before I wanted to know some more And now I know what they mean, you’re a love machine Oh, you make me dizzy...

    Scents to help quit vices

Good luck, ladyfair! It is so hard to quit any vice!! I also suggest Wolf's Heart for the quitting of vices. It helps when you are feeling weak and are about to break down. It's not what I would call a "lovely" scent, but it sure does give you some courage when you need it!

    Bravery, Courage, Confidence, Intimidation, Power

Zankoku_zen, I think O would be awesome. Great rec!! I get largely honey, amber and a (yummy, mind you) "sex" note. This would scream, "We've been doin' it and doin' it and doin' it WELL". Good luck, honey!

    Bravery, Courage, Confidence, Intimidation, Power

Oh yes, if you can manage a quickie in the car, the mix smells ever so much more authentic AND you both have AFG, and can bask in that...hell yeah. That should put her libido in check.

    Bravery, Courage, Confidence, Intimidation, Power

To be honest? His cologne lightly applied over yours should work nicely. Nothing says, "I just got done servicing this man, and I'll be doing it again later" like a mixture of your two colonges. (Which, olfactory-speaking, smells like ya'll been doin' the humpty-hump just a few minutes ago.) However, if you need something that says, "You will die the death of the thousand bitch-slaps if you don't step off", then I suggest Blood Kiss or Dracul. Both are pretty ballsy, and give off an aura of fercocity and a tendency towards the territorial. Good luck, babes. Sorry you have to go through this b.s.

    BPAL around the kids

Dana O' Shee is a wonderful mommy/baby scent . It isn't too strong as to be offensive to little nosies. It's creamy-honey-grainey goodness, and would be great for a mom who is into foodier scents. Another which might be nice might be Alice, if mom is particularly girlie-sweet. I did not find my son had any issue with the floral in Alice, and it is a very pretty, milky scent for moms who like a floral. If you're into making a little basket, Dana would pair well with Green Lady Soap's Oatmeal, Milk and Honey body products and Alice pairs well with Goth Rosary's Tea and Sympathy conditioner and other body products. Good luck!!
  8. Sin and Snake Oil are very similar on my skin. Sin is darker and heavier and Snake Oil is sweeter and more of a spicey skin scent. What I don't get is the similarity people seem to find between Snake Oil and O. I really do not get much similarity between the two, although I love them both dearly. O is sticky on me where Snake Oil is sweet. I don't get very much spice from O, either...hm. Different chemistry. Must be.

    Coyote

I had to try this, as I feel very connected to the coyote and have for most of my adult life. I was not dsappointed. Imp: oooh, a lot of amber and musk with a soft sweetness underneath. On: Wet phase, this all amber and musk. There is a slight tang of doeskin coming forward as well as something that is slighly silly and sharp, like coyote just got a thorn in his foot, but is laughing hyterically. This is a soft caucophony of scents, suited to the trickster God for sure. After a couple of hours, this starts to go all baby powder on my skin. Scenting my hair is fine, though. I think it's worth it to reapply it to my skin from time to time. I'll buy a 5mL

    Tezcatlipoca

This is genius. I know, I say this a lot, but this scent...this scent...woah. BS bought a bottle unsniffed and it is amazing... In the bottle: Cocoa. Very dark, strong, cocoa. Something is swirling underneath, but I cannot tell what it is... On: Cocoa is the largely predominant note in the wet phase. It is a drier, darker, powdery cocoa, though. Something you would use to make a "devil's" cake. The smoke and leather start to come out as this dries down and the cocoa takes a back seat, warming everything up, but not dominating the blend anymore. The final note to come forward on me is the florals, which sweetens everything up a bit and makes this a very complex, fabulous scent. I love this on BS. On me, I don't think I can carry it off, but maybe I'm wrong. For now, it's safe on his side of the oil tray...note I said...FOR NOW.

    Santa Muerte

This is a lovely floral. It's sweet and soft, not at all crisp or heavy. It has a very comforting feel, it reminds me of how my mother would smell upon returning from work when I was a child and thought her the most beautiful woman in the world. Lightly perfumed, yet comforting in a sweet way. Unfortunately, florals are *usually* just not me, and this is no exception. Swapped you away, my sweet. Perhaps another time we'll meet again and I will feel differently.

    Nephilim

This was another generous gimp from the labbies. In the imp: I get A LOT of frankencense and fig. Mostly figgy goodness. On (wet): Helloooooo fig! This stage is very figgy. Something is lurking underneath the fig, something dark and incencey, I believe this to be the Frankencense. On (dry down): Oh, this is just gorgeous. The fig is still the dominant note, but the other drier notes have come forward and are now making this a very dry fig. I can smell the cypress and oakmoss, the frankencense and rosemary. The tamarind lends a slightly tart note that further tempers the fig, which rounds out the scent nicely. Overall, this is a gorgeous scent. It is not something I would wear, as it comes off very masculine on me. I have to smell this again on Bluestar. I think this would make a great scent for men who like fruit, but still want a more traditionally masculine scent. My search for a replacement for Slatkin's Abysinthe and Black Fig continues..

    Sin

I bought this one unsniffed and I was not disappointed... First impression: Hmm...I don't know if I like this. This is very brash and acrid in the bottle. The cinnamon comes off as very sharp upon first sniff. On: Very much like Czernobog, and I have no idea why as there are no notes in common here. It is a very openly brash, dark scent at first on me. The cinnamon is at the forefront in the wet stage and this is starting to make me doubt my choice...however.... Dry: Yes, yes YES! This is what I was looking for. If this were a wood, it would be a lusturously laquered ebony. The patchouli lingers in the background, deepening the blend while the sandalwood and amber soften the brash cinnamon, making this a sexy, and very very dark blend. Overall: I feel like I should go to confession and shock the priest with tales of my days as a Pro-Domme. "Bless me Father for I have spanked many a naughty bitch..." Seriously, I feel downright lascivious wearing this blend. It's so damned bad, it's good!! I'm happy with my 5mL purchase. I don't think I'll need much more than that for a while as it is a very heavy scent on me with a TON of throw.

    Roadhouse

Oh me oh my, this is a bawdy scent! First impression: Grass. Green grass and dandilion. Not quite freshly mown grass, but more of a pile of mown grass baking in the sunshine-type of feel. It's grass, but it is a dry grassy smell. I get some of the hops underneath. On (wet): Holy moly! Hello yummy beer smell. My skin takes the hops and booze and runs with it (yeah, like that's a surprise, ha!) I smell like Peoria, IL on a hot summer day when the brewery is working overtime. Not a bad thing, as I have very fond memories of summertime in Peoria. On (dry): Oh HELL yeah! Where the hell was this scent when I used to go hit biker bars for cheap beer in high school?? Upon drydown, this bad boy sweetens up and the grass smell comes back as well as the hemp. The booze still lingers in the background. This scent makes my head spin. Oh wow, this is just amazing! Overall: I'll be buying a bottle of this for next summer. Wonderful, very original blend. Far too much fun to pass up!!

The Saddest, most Melancholy & Wistful BPALs

Desdemona, to my nose, is not sad, it is more watery and pensive, maybe? Very floral and clean, though. There is a bit of a resonating sadness to Cathedral. For some reason, I keep picturing Michelangelo's La Pieta when I smell this.

The Saddest, most Melancholy & Wistful BPALs

Wings of Azrael has an element of sweet sadness to it, a kind of regret, perhaps? I don't know exactly how to explain it, but it is a lovely, sombre scent.
  17. Perversion, Elegba, Snake Oil, Bathsheba, Morocco have all gotten me yummy results. Dorian is okay but I don't get the *gotta do you now on the floor before I explode* reaction I get from the above.

    Perversion

Oh baby...this is good. Imp: has an almost Blood Kiss quality. I will have to look and see what is similar between the two. I smelly a cherry-ish sweet rummy smell. Nice, but I wasn't sure about all the hype. Freshly applied: Very much like Blood Kiss, but without the vetivert and heavy musk. I'm not in love with this yet. What is the darn note that is similar here?? Dry: Holy shit. Talk about a morph. This stuff is amazing. I'm getting tonka/vanilla and leather and tobacco with a wee sniff of booze. This is gorgeous. Multi-layered and very very sexy. Overall: Scoot over top ten and meet your new buddy, Perversion. Gorgeous, really.
  19. Kali, on me, was a very strong rose scent. My skin has a tendency to amp up roses like noone's business. It was sweet, but insanely rosey. The tobacco Beth uses smells much like an expensive pipe tobacco, only richer. It is a very nice note and, with the exception of Dracul where I can pick it out easily, the tobacco note in many of her blends merely serves to deepen it or give it a bit of a bite. I cannot promise that you will never smell like a walking cigarette b/c your chemistry is different from mine and my hubby's. But, neither of us ever have.

    Lilac!

You know, for those with issues with lilacs going bye-bye, you might want to try layering a lilac lotion/soap combo with one of the aforementioned BPAL creations. I just bought my mom Green Lady Soap's lotion (the heavier one) and soap in Lilac Haze and, according to her, it is crazy gorgeous and pretty much a single note. It also has great staying power, so I think it would work well to amp up the Lilac.

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

For the pink rose, I would go with Lucy's Kiss, hands down. That's pretty much what I imagined with it on. Very pretty, very lady-like. For a more vampiric rose, I would love to know what you come up with b/c I am looking for much the same. Blood Rose did not work for me at all. Far too juicy. I like my roses a bit on the drier side of things. I should probably get a hold of an imp of Zombi. As far as haunting and Victorian, I kind of find Dorian that way. Haunting in a whistful way, though. Not a boo ha ha type of feel.

Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?

I recently received Lucy's Kiss as a gimp from the lab. It was not my cup of tea, so I passed it on, but I remember it being a very gentle rose. The spice never showed up for me that I could remember, but that is b/c my skin pumps up the rose. It might be something to try, if you are so inclined. It made me think of baby pink roses, the scent was very delicate and fresh and not at all juicy. It was just too proper for me, I'm afraid.

    Elegba

Okay, I have one regret about ordering an imp of Elegba...that I didn't order a whole big bottle. God this stuff is creamy, devine goodness. In the imp: almost buttery cream-coconutty-rummy. This is thick and rich, like a syrup. Not foody, though. Something, perhaps the tobacco, keeps it from beign that way. On: Oh sweet love of Christ this stuff is amazing. It starts out all gorgeous coconut, but not sweet, oily, spf 2 dark tanning oil coconutty, but like a coconut milk. I would say the meat, but to me, this is much creamier. It's devine. After an hour: The tobacco and rum are more in play and this is just gorgeous. Very creamy still, with a manly bite which makes it oh-so-delish. Overall: Big bottle purchase for sure. Good ammount of throw to this one on me. Even through a head-cold, I could smell its goodness. Amazing, truely amazing. Beth, you have outdone yourself...again. An amazing triubte, really.

    Recommmendations for Green Scents

When I first tried it, it was this way for me too. But, I have tried it since having the baby and it is all fields and apple blossom on me. Gorgeous, just not me at all. Loved it before, can't do it now. Funny how one's nose changes too... I'll bet a great "lavender" scent that has herbal undertones would be awesome for your mom! I seem to recall a "lavender" thread with tons of rec's. I'll look for it later.

    Recommmendations for Green Scents

Phantom Queen is quite fresh, green and lovely. Very spring. The apple blossom note does magnify on me, but in a "golden delicious" kind of way. It is sweet, but not sickeningly so. Not really an herbal, more of a light "forest" scent, sans fir/pine, which many "forest" scents have. Although it is not listed, mayhaps Whitechapel might tickle her fancy? Or perhaps Villain? I know my mother, a fan of green scents LOVES Whitechapel.
