I had very high hopes for this one. I love the smell of wood and I love the smell of cherry, so what could go wrong? Oh, right- god damn body chemistry. It does smell a lot like cherry cough syrup of some sort in the imp but warps to something weird and more medicinal and dry on my skin. It smells like a hospital, but one built entirely out of dry brittle wood. No cherry. I can only smell a faint hint of cherry if I smash my nose into my wrist and inhale deeply. It fades to plain furniture polish. Sure glad I just got an imp instead of a bottle..not a winner.

Strong rum and ALMONDS in the imp!! Oh almonds, how I love you! Yet there are smoky and creamy things underneath that emerge on the skin (I'm not sure what, but it makes this very interesting!) This is more boozy than just pure foody but not in a "I smell like a drunk" kind of way. It's still sweet, but not sickly. I LOVE HELLCAT!! It's, well, fun! Sort of sexy, but more a playful sexy. I can't think of how else to put it. This is the kind of effect I was going to order Grog hoping for, except this isn't pure buttery rum. It still has some complexity. THIS IS IN MY TOP 10 NOW *goes to update everything* [edit] My bottle is waaaaay more heavy smelling with loads more buttercream. I still like it, but it's definitely a different scent. the imp was boozy and light.

Not about staining *clothing*, but has anyone found a successful remedy for oil that stains your skin besides (obviously) wearing it somewhere besides your skin? I'm pale as death so I end up with unattractively brown-stained wrists with BPAL often. Even some oils that start out clear dry to a yellow at some point

Wet: Cherry. Something slightly murky below. Kinda reminds me of the drydown of Kabuki. As it dries, it changes to dragon's blood and myrrh. .... few hours later..nothing changes. .... it's now faded completely. Okay, where is my beloved clove, and where did the cherry go?! I'm really disappointed, past the wet phase I can't smell anything but DB + myrrh. It's not unpleasant, it's just not the potential mind-blowingly fantastic scent it could have been.

Wow. SOOOOO glad I ordered a 5ml of this unsniffed. It smells very much like my single note Vanilla Bean wet and in the bottle, oddly enough, though with a slightly spiced edge. It loses the vanilla smell but maintains the same creamy, smooth "vibe" if you know what I mean. Comparisons to Dana O'Shee seem crazy but actually fit- I got a Dana "vibe" from my Vanilla Bean the first time I tried it, so it makes sense. I definitely wouldn't call it light, however, while Dana definitely qualifies as a light fragrance. This is very cinnamony but not a spicey, fiery sort of cinnamon. A soft one but still maintains some depth. I really, really, REALLY love this.

Clove discussion! including bitter clove and clove cigarettes
luxuria replied to amaltheagray's topic in Recommendations
I should have mentioned this initially- though i'm now purchasing a couple imps of Sweet Clove from babykitty I'm still VERY much in the market for buying a 5ml, so if you'd have one you'd be willing to part with, do let me know! I can't wait to try all the things people have reccommended. I have Blood and March Hare coming in an order I already got a Click n' Ship for, so I'm suddenly even MORE antsy about its arrival. -

I do! Madrid is one of those scents I just kind of ignored but that sounds PERFECT for me and just shot to the top of my mental wishlist. -

What's the most clove-y BPAL blend? I love love love love cloves but I haven't found anything that really has a strong clove component (at times, my skin makes Blood Kiss scream cloves, but vetiver-y cloves. So I'm not completely satisfied.) Whether it's just a strong clove note, or something that has a cloves "vibe", do please let me know! -
The Lowdown on Incense & Resin - The Best Recommendations

If someone, contrary to the original poster, is looking for a humid floral yet SUPER incense Hell's Belle may fit the bill (at least during the initial phase- an hour or two..) -
Oils with the strongest throw or sillage - the most noticeable scents

Another: Hell's Belle. REALLY easy to overdo. I accidently put too much on the first time (only the equivalent of a few drops, mind you) and it was overwhelming even when my wrists were nowhere near my face. -
This is a very clean scent. I was expecting something creamier and more decadent..but this the kind of scent you'd use in bath products. Starts out rather citrus-y, green, and definitely ginger-y but gets slightly creamier as time goes on. It is slightly reminiscent of Alice, but not too much (Alice didn't make me think of bath products.) I think I'll end up making a lotion out of this one. Or at least store it away for summer.

This is a slightly creamy, slightly spicy, slightly smoky floral blend. It smells like incense at first which horrified me but luckily that fades. I don't have a clue what magnolia smells like, but there is a particular floral that's dominant in this blend, so i'll assume that's what I'm smelling. This is voluptuous and oh-so-subtly dark. This smells more like a bordello to me than Bordello I like it though and I'm glad to have a 5ml.

I'm no good with identifying notes in light, fresh, clean, floral, or citrus-y scents. I just don't wear them often. With that said, this smells like a tropical Empyreal Mist to me. This is clean and green. I'm undecided on it. I liked it a lot at first because I smelled more of the fruits but it's pretty floral now. As it wears, the amber comes out and grounds it some. Wow, I like this a lot again! and I don't like amber so (like with Hollywood Babylon) it's saying a lot to say that amber improves this. It makes it less sharp and clean. I'm keeping it but not ordering a bottle. Will be good for the summer when I feel particularly tropical.

Oils with the strongest throw or sillage - the most noticeable scents

Siren has the most throw of any BPAL I've tried, and Snake Oil was very much a "skin scent" on me. I wish it were the other way around, I didn't like Siren but you may want to look into that one. -
I can see that this actually sort of contributed to my "incense" impression from O. Except the wee bit from this compared with the super-incensey amber made me just want to throw my imp of O out the window in disappointment. This is what I wanted O to smell like. A perfect honey. Sultry, rich, slightly syrupy and slightly sweet but in no way sickly or cloying. This is going to be an absolute pleasure to layer with. Another single note I like as well as my Vanilla Bean, which is saying a lot. BPAL's version of these scents is infinitely better than any other single note I've tried, so it's a shame that the single notes are discontinued. If you're a fan of honey, it is absolutely imperative you get your hands on some of this!

I want to write a poem about Snow White. I wish I could because I just don't feel like I can do this justice otherwise. This is perfect! This is snowy, but only the most fluffy, light and freshly fallen snow. It puts the "frost" in "frosting!" Even those damn light florals didn't taint this one. I definitely smell some lightly minty coconut at some point, which enhances the "snow" quality rather than smelling tropical. It does kind of smell like "nothing" in the bottle but once on the skin it manages to both be an incredibly light and soft, but strong fragrance. So many contradictory qualities that just WORK! I'm actually willing to pay an absurd amount for another bottle on ebay now. It's worth it. If I use this up and it doesn't come back next year...well..bad things will happen. etc. etc. [edit] I've managed to peg the bottle smell as watery Scotch Tape. Uh...sure glad that smell doesn't carry over.

Bordello with leather?!?! Ugh..must..restrain..self..from..ordering...!!! I have about another month and a half until my Peversion comes in..I can hardly wait.

My 5mls are disappearing at an alarming rate. I thought "Wow, look how much oil is in here, and I use so little of it, this should last forever!"...nope. I doubt I even have 6 months for the ones I wear regularly (not even daily.)

Warm, cozy gingerbread spiced with nutmeg, clove and cinnamon. Another one I could have sworn I'd reviewed..In fact, I've looked at both pages several times because I'm almost positive I did! Oh well, here goes This is quite spicy in the bottle. This is definitely not like any gingerbread I've eaten, but that's not a bad thing! I enjoy the spices, it just keeps it from being 100% food. One of the spices/notes is actually very UN-foody smelling..I wonder what it is. I have to really slather this on to smell it on my skin..and it burns a bit. Ouchies. Luckily that fades. It starts out just as spicy (minus that one unknown, strange spice) but mellows out into a more cookie or cake smell. Cinnamon is a very prominent presence but I don't smell any clove, unfortunately. and I'm not sure what nutmeg smells like, so.. Final impressions: This is festive to the max! While I wish I didn't have to slather it to smell it and it's not quite what I was expecting, I love it nevertheless. This would make an AMAZING room scent or homemade potpourri.

This smells very chocolatey-toffee in the imp. Gluttony indeed. Being overweight, I'm wary to try this on, but I tried it on nevertheless.. This smells burnt. Oh god, I'm being choked..I don't smell anything delicious, this is completely cloying and nauseating..syrupy sweet, sweet, sweet but BURNT. WASHING OFF ASAP. I'll chalk this one up to skin chemistry. UGH

... He is a Hermetic Magician's hero for the ages, and his scent is an elegant, timeless, truly refined cologne, bold yet classic: gilded amber, hypnotic lavender, brash carnation and deep mosses. This doesn't smell as "fancy" as Wilde but I kinda get the same vibe. I also don't like it as well. I wonder if it's because of the absence of tonka bean. It's definitely masculine but I wouldn't see it as IMPOSSIBLE for a woman to pull off, just difficult.. I definitely smell the amber in this, which gives it a slightly incense-y feel (same thing with O, but not as extreme here.) I also smell the mosses (which, mind you, just HATE my skin chemistry) so, so far there are two negatives. The lavender and carnation lighten this considerably and despite the other notes this doesn't smell overwhelmingly organic. I still kind of get a cologne vibe. I smell the lavender more than the carnation for sure, but the carnation is still detectable if you search for it. Nice, but not my favorite. Another must-try if you're looking for a masculine BPAL scent, but might not be as heavy as you like if you're a fan of amber and moss.

This smells herbal, floral, yet very warm and round and at some points, slightly spicy. If that makes sense. Other reviewers are right, the dragon's blood is an easy note to pick out, but I'm having trouble with the others. It doesn't smell particularly strong on me- actually, it's pretty soft. I didn't get any of the voodoo effects but it did make me feel rather pleasant.

Wow, what a strange combination of notes, but they blend so well together. I'm not a fan of either one, so I knew I probably wouldn't want a bottle of it, but there's no reason not to try it on, right? I thought the vetiver in Blood Kiss was strong..WOW. This is singe-off-some-nosehairs strong. I can now say with a fair amount of certainty that my skin loves vetiver (I wish it would eat it instead, though.) I smell a faint hint of violets. This is indeed very dark. Almost disturbing. Violets usually smell very delicate to me, but these are evil violets. The overall "color" impression I get is a blackened green. I wont be wearing this but nevertheless I am glad to have been able to try it. I've really never smelled anything like it.

I LOVE this. Unfortunately, not on me. It smells very "fancy", which I suppose is appropriate, but also very masculine. A good majority of commercial colognes make me positively ill but this maintains the same vibe while being positively delicious instead. I want a boyfriend now. I definitely smell the tonka bean underneath everything but I have no idea what's creating the "fancy cologne" smell. I do detect something vaguely floral, so I guess I smell the jasmine. Luckily I know what I DON'T get- patchouli. Blech @ patchouli, thank goodness it doesn't ruin this blend! If you're looking for a good masculine BPAL scent, you better include this one in your order.

13 isn't THAT young. O and Dragon's Milk are definitely girly, you don't want to emasculate the poor boy maybe Dragon's Heart, but then again dragon's blood can smell kind of fruity and you said he doesn't like fruity smells. Wilde is definitely a masculine scent, but not deep, or sexy..it's very pleasant.
