What do bottles and labels look like?

Shadow Witch Orchid, from Rappaccini's Garden: There's a spider behind the 'H' in Witch, a skull in the bottom right-hand corner, and another halfway down the left-hand side.

    Snowblind

Snowblind Absolutely gorgeous. Buttery, minty and smoooooth. I'm not one to pine for BPAL I cannot have, as there are so many other divine scents, but Snowblind ... *sigh* Snowblind is definitely worth the pining.

    Black Opal

Black Opal Hmmm. Faintly medicinal at first, Black Opal morphs into an unusual sweetness. It's somehow vanillaish and aquatic at the same time. How does Beth DO that? When trying to think of what it smells like, the only thing I could think of is powdered sugar. Powdered sugar covered rocks? It's very pretty.

    Beatrice

Beatrice This is a lovely balance of florals and spice. My first thought was that it was far too powdery-floral for me to wear, but on my skin it becomes more spicy. It's one of those scents that reminds me of something that I can't quite recall. It's beautiful.

    Harvest Moon 2005

Harvest Moon 2005 Woo hoo! It's delightful! It's Harvest (2004) and Hunter Moons and Samhain (and dare I say Mabon?!) all wrapped up in one little bottle. Fruit and wine and grains and autumn sunshine and leaves and flowers all mashed together in a glorious expression of fall.

    Fruit Moon

Fruit Moon Fruit Moon is delicious. Chock full o' fruit, it is. In the bottle, I smell melon, lemon, mango, pomegranate, kiwi, and lime. It actually smells a bit like tropical fruit Starbursts. Maybe the pale green ones? Anyway, it's wonderful. Dries down to a raspberryish scent.

    Bengal

Bengal The spices are divine... ginger, cinnamon, clove... but then there's the honey note. Honey always goes sour on me, and Bengal is no exception. Too bad, because this would be a top favorite if not for that.

    Numb

Numb ... a singularly chilly, delectably ice-rimmed perfume. Revel in the gelid polar frostiness that is Numb, and forget about the heat for a moment. Sharp, soapy flower scent. It is cold and powdery... but not the way roses sometimes are. This is like powdery snow. But soapy. Makes me feel a bit sneezy.

    Love in the Asylum

Holy rose! Or should I say, wholly rose? 'Cause that's what it is on me. There's a dash of spice--carnations--but it's pretty much straight-up rose.

    BPAL around the kids

My boys don't seem to care what oils I wear--this summer, it was loads of The Dormouse and Dirty, and now we're onto Sugar Skull and Chimera--but their favorite BPAL (for them) is Bliss. Otherwise, they favor orange-based scents, but I haven't found a BPAL orange they really like. (Maybe Blood Orange, but that one's all mine! )

    Buck Moon

I'm so glad I ordered this. I was put off by the idea this would be musky and furry, and it's not. At all. Well, maybe a bit musky, but not in the animalistic, furry way I had expected. It's very clear. It makes me think of salt water and clear skies and summer evenings. On the skin, there's a perfumeyness about it that's comforting and nostalgic.

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

Chaos Theory II - CCCLXXII (372) Also reviewed by graycat and roesmoker and darkling. Fruity-waxy. Almost like a fruit-scented candle.

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

Chaos Theory II - CXXVIII (128) Also reviewed by roesmoker. At first, I thought cinnamon, and I still think there may be some of it here, but this is more sweetly mint. Not bright peppermint... a mint like a cool breeze of fresh air. Then it warms a bit and makes me think of summer and mint gum. It smells like my car did when I accidentally left a pack of Doublemint in it in the summer heat.

    Cinnamon girl...

    Chimera and/or Inferno.

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

CCCXCIX - 399 Also reviewed by queenb. First off, how fun is it to say, "cee cee cee ecks, cee i ecks"? It's like a cheer! Secondly, in the bottle it's a buttery... something... sort of mint, sort of cinnamon. On the skin, it's a bright Doublemint mint on top of a Big Red cinnamon. Then comes a whiff of berries, not unlike Yule 2004's Yuletide blend.

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

Chaos Theory II : XX (20) Also reviewed by hologhost, darkling and sarada. At first, sharp but sweet floral. Then? Deep fuity sweetness. I don't even know how to describe it, but it's beautiful. It's not sticky-sweet, but sweet nonetheless.

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

Chaos Theory II - CLVI ( 156 ) Buttery mint in the bottle, CLVI goes on the skin with the crystalline mintiness of Frost Moon. Then, there's a spiciness similar to Sugar Cookie, and finally settling into a cool watery Blue Moon-like scent. Although I know Beth did not make this with me in mind, it feels as though she did. After letting it sit for a couple of weeks, it's changed a bit. The spiciness is less pronounced, and the mintiness goes more directly into the aquatic phase, with the spice emerging later. The notes have blended more and feel less like compnents of other oils. This is so lovely. I'm so glad I got it, but will be sad to see it go.

    Chaos Theory

Each bottle of Chaos Theory is truly unique, a fragrant fractal, an exercise in the joy of chance and uncertainty! Each is a one-of-a-kind, utterly random combination of scents, the composition of which is based on whim, mood and gut instinct. Each bottle is numbered, and comes with a small parchment certificate. Chaos Theory - XXXVII Also reviewd by amberbella and magikfanfic. Lovely. XXXVII is a quiet scent, a sort of subdued Pele. Subtle and close to the skin. There's maybe a bit of floral, a bit of musk, but mostly, it smells like ... well, skin. This is a "me, only better" type of scent.

Chaos Theory XLVIII Also reviewed by paperdoll, hypothermya, with coffee spoons, quantum spice, inkstone, magikfanfic, Tesseljoan, and yellowrose. Milky, powdery sweet floral. If it were a color, it would be butter yellow. A bit of vanilla, maybe a touch of orchid, and a spash of... lemon? ginger? It reminds me a bit of Regan, actually. Very girly-feminine.

Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect

Chaos Theory II : VIII (8) Also reviewd by olympia301 and ~AmusedMuse~. Minty, minty grass. And something a bit spicy. I'm not sure if it's an actual cinnamonny-note or just a part of the mintiness (wintergreen tends to have that sort of spiciness). There's also... I don't know, a musk? that gives a sort of warmth to it. Very interesting, very pretty. Sadly, it disappears within minutes!

    Elegba

Thank goodness I had the good sense to order a 10ml of this. In the bottle--gorgeous sugared rum and coconut. On skin-- at first, there's a sort of butterscotchy scent and something very dry and smoky. Drying--butterscotch and rum and coconut. It's a bit like Grog, but darker and more complex. It's also a bit like Spooky, but not mint-chocolate. Dry--a bit like suntan oil, and I mean that in a gooood way. Like sweet, sugared coconut with a splash of rum.
  22. I always thought Pele was like Amazing Grace.

    Midway

Dear me. This is amazing. Funnel cakes, saltwater taffy, and candy floss, with a healthy dusting of confectioners' sugar. Midway is absolutely fantastic. I *do* get a bit of that "plasticy" note that I got from Egg Nog, but you know what? I don't care. The top notes are so nice, I'll ignore the plastic underneath the powdered sugar.

    Fire Eater

Lurid and seductive? Are you sure? Mine smells a bit light-soapy-floral with a kind of ozone tinge. I imagine it's the smell of white-hot metal, but... it's not at all what I would have expected from the description. It's almost get a "dryer sheet" sort of smell. As it dries, it deepens. It goes from white-hot to red, and it's getting sexier every second. It's spicier now.... and hot. Though I'm kind of thrown by the initial floral phase, the drydown redeems it. I will almost certainly be buying a bottle of this.

    Shill

I really don't have anything more to add. It is a true buttered popcorn scent. It's actually quite astonishing how accurate it is. It makes me hungry.
