I just realized the other day how perfect Torture Queen is for spring. White tea, white amber, gardenia & chrome. I thought it would be strictly a summer scent since that's when I first wore it, but I think I'll be reaching for it more often in the spring.

The scent of tea - BPAL's tea note, BPAL blends like your favorite tea
lainevierge replied to sarada's topic in Recommendations
One of my favorite BPAL tea scents is the white tea in Torture Queen. I put it on the other day and realized it's the perfect spring scent. -
My bottle of Queen Alice has a regular old GC label.

I'm so going to ask for reducer caps next time I make a lab order. I managed to get a hold of one for my bottle of TKO and it makes the oil so much easier to apply.
-
I had my husband go through all my bottles to pick a Valentine themed one for tonight and he chose Hony Mone, something I never would. Lovers in a Ricefield was a close second.
-
Funny, I hadn't even thought of wearing 13 tomorrow, but now I will. For Valentine's Day I'll probably end up wearing Lovers in a Ricefield.

Mmm! The black amber is really making this for me. I'm getting apples, a peppery herbal smell and the amber, which is making it dark and delicious. I think I'll be reaching for this one more often than Poisoned Apple, my former go-to apple scent.

When I first tried this scent over a month ago it was 100% killer ozone. Thankfully it's mellowed quite a bit. The ozone is still there, but it blends with the other notes and comes off more like a snow note than anything else. In the background there's a hint of something cool and violety. The amber hides deep down and begs you to come looking for it. I was going to swap this one away, but I think I might like to too much now.

This scent is so light. It reminds me a lot of the smell of freshly scrubbed skin. I feel like I took a bath after a hot day and I'm drying off and slipping on a nightgown about to get in bed. Lovely, though not something I'd put into daily rotation. I generally like my scents to be a little spicier and heavier, but this one is certainly evocative.

As other reviewers have said, this banana peel is dead on in this blend. However, after wearing it for a while, all I smell is mushy bananas, and a mix of men's cologne and car air freshener. Weird. I had to get a decant because I had to sniff it, but I don't think I'll be keeping this one.

Mmm, in the bottle this reminds me a lot of Misk U but on my skin a great dry coffee bean scent comes through. This has no hint of bitterness in it at all that you'd expect from a coffee bean smell though. The mocha reminds me of cinnamon coffee cake, a lot like the coffee-cinnamon-chocolate blend of El Dia de Reyes. I even get a hint of the whiskey, but it's not a boozy scent. It smells like one of those dessert coffees I like to drink after a special dinner. I'm kind of in love with this scent. I want my apartment to smell like this, but I'm not sure I'll wear it myself all that much since I'm not really a foodie. I do see myself taking the bottle out often and just huffing it for fun though, like I do with my El Dia de Reyes decant.

Nope, they are two different scents. On Darkness is an LE Yule and Darkness is a GC (in the Ars Moriendi section).

In my decant I was getting cinnamon, and then I got the cola mentioned above as I was applying the oil. But once it was on my skin it was nothing but LEMON. My skin totally amps the tiniest hint of lemon in a scent, and not in a nice way. I feel like there's other fiery notes underneath, but the overwhelming lemon note is throttling everything else. Oh Fire Phoenix, I wanted to love you.

This was a lab frimp. It went on lemony and faded to that medicinal smell that moss tends to do to me. Grr. I think I'll be trying this on my husband. Something tells me the bay rum could work on him.

Awesome, that's totally going to make the trip out there during the holidays worth it.

I have a question for anyone who's been to Nail Polish Etc outside of Will Call. Are there still testers/sniffies available if you go during regular business hours? I love to sniff some retail only Salons before deciding which ones to purchase.

In the imp this smells like the deep, damp earth I used to dig in when I was a kid. The kind that was dark brown and just a little bit sandy. Happy memories of recess. On my skin however this totally turns to celery. I don't want to smell like my most hated vegetable.
-
Wow, this keeps morphing on me. In the imp it smelled like almonds, but on my skin it switched to roses & almonds. The roses are dried though, which is a good thing since those are pretty much the only ones I'll tolerate. I'm also getting lemon, something green & herbal, vanilla and musk. Essentially, each time I sniff my wrist I smell something different. Crazy!

I'm pretty torn about this scent. It reminds me a lot of Norell perfume, which was my great aunt's signature scent. There's lots of memories there, but it's not necessarily a scent I want to wear. No worries though, because as soon as it gets on my skin it smells just like cheap Halloween makeup. Eeew. So, no love for Mole here, but it has pushed me to read Wind in the Willows, so it's not a total loss.

There's a nice elegant quality to this scent that makes it smell like a very expensive perfume to my nose. Unfortunately, there's also a note in there that my nose reads as SPEARMINT, which never fails to make me nauseous. Not a keeper, but I love the concept.

I wish I got more olive oil and smoke out of this blend. It's all fizzy light beeswax. It's really light and not at all long lasting. I had to put double the amount I usually put on because I couldn't smell anything at first. I was hoping this would smell more like freshly blown out candles.
-
Wow, something in this blend is super strong. I thought as first it was cedar, since it reminded me of a cross between a bonfire and a steam room, but cedar is not listed in this blend. Maybe it's the smoke & cypress? This smells like a slushy day in the city, smoky and dark with a hint of sweetness and spice wafting out from doorways. The orange comes out on the warmer part of my skin, but it's just not pulling me in very much.

A mournful, poignant scent, thick with foreboding. Soft golden amber darkened with a touch of murky black musk. Arg. This smells great in the imp, but on my skin it just turns to spicy baby powder. I wish I could love it, but alas I don't. I'll be putting it in a scent locket though. It's just too lovely to pass up.

Wow. In the imp this smells positively rank, but on my skin I'm getting this great spicy lotus scent. I agree with the above poster who likened it to Glowing Vulva, it's like a spicier version with a touch of orange. Even the bergamot comes out to play for me, and tea has never worked on my skin. That being said, I'm not sure this is bottle worthy. I already have Vulva as my go to lotus scent, but it's nice to know that lotus works on my skin!

Grr, this is way too sweet and floral for me, even with the coconut. I was hoping the musk would give it an edge, but it smells like something my mom would wear. Nice, but too straight and respectable. I like my scents evil, sexy and smutty!
