    Pickled Imp

Sadly this didn't work at all. Pickled Imp is a simple mix of cinnamon, clove and vanilla, but something is off with the vanilla here.. it has a somewhat 'plastic suntan lotion' tinge to it. That's the only way I can describe it. I love spicy/cinnamon scents (Shub, Plunder, etc), but I'm actually going to dissent and say I really don't enjoy Pickled Imp too much, but the concept and art = great.

    The Blockhead

Men's cologne and bubblegum. That is exactly what this is. Even more surprising - it somehow works! Blockhead and Knucklebones seem like brother scents to me... they don't smell alike but they have the same feeling to them.. like a rough-n-tough masculine front with a playful (if not kind of dumb) demeanor.

    Cytherea

Sandalwood and orris. Can't go wrong there. This is a very light scent in my opinion with pretty much no throw at all... but if you bury your nose into your arm its easy to see this is unquestionably a complex scent. The amber does go a little powdery on me (a peeve of mine that doesnt seem to affect others). After a little while the vanilla comes out.. and yes, it really does smell like a wee bit of bourbon (heaven) in there. If this was stronger it'd be awesome... but even with my wrist 12 inches from my nose I still can't smell anything. Maybe aging will liven up the vanilla? Until aging, you'll likely either need to slather or use a locket.

    L'Heure Verte

Don't ask why, but smelling this makes me think of old Victorian houses. It's somewhat of a ghostly smell.. somewhat phantom like. Maybe this is because of the rose... which by the way, this is the first rose scent I actually enjoy... so rose haters shouldn't dismiss L'Heure Verte right away. I think rose + opium sums this one up nice. I'm not getting anything absinthe/anise/licorice here... but I'm not worried about that because the rose is actually really nice here. I saw a thread on this forum about what oils people wear before going to bed... they should consider this a prime candidate. Very quiet/ghostly/silent/whitepink/ethereal to me.

    Licwiglunga

Something about this just kills me. Obviously my brain is linking this scent to some type of nostalgia in my mind. I know I've smelled this before but I have no idea when or where. This will be difficult to review. It smells like dry herbs, somewhat spicy and there is something here that is giving off a peppery vibe, a surreal rustic parlour for gentlemen. As a room scent this would come off as very sophisticated. Yeah.. its just impossible to review this stuff really. If your tastes are outside the box (and they must be if you're looking at Wunderkammer scents!) then this is a must. This is the weirdest of all Wunderkammer scents, which means it's probably the first one you should try. Highly recommended! This stuff morphs like nothing else.... freaky as all hell and genius to boot. ETA: If you're a fan of anise, black licorice, absinthe or turkish pepper, the anise in this blend is 2nd to none. Absinthe, Kabuki and all the other anise scents are great, but this is in a completely different league.

    Inez

Good. God. Damn. On a woman this would be the ideal scent. I skipped on a full bottle of this and just got a decant.. never imagined this would be so good. At first I get something like a nutty.. almost toffee scent from it, but it's not foody at all. (ETA: The above reviewer mentioned Wezwanie/Hold -- spot on .. I knew that toffee-ish scent from somewhere). After a couple of minutes it goes all sandalwood and carnation (great mix) - and I swear I'm getting that same cola note that is in Schwarzer Mond... although I seem to be getting that note in almost everything I test lately so take that observation with a grain of salt. (also ETA: n/m, myrrh.. so cozy). After about an hour I detect the vanilla. This would be just achingly and mindblowingly sexy on the right woman... Inez is the first bpal I've smelled that truly seems drop dead all-out sexy. Another unique thing about Inez is it seems like it would work just as well in summer as it would in winter... not too heavy, but definitely lighter than the listed notes would have you believe. I doubt I'll get a full bottle as this isn't something I'd personally wear (of this Grindhouse Girls series, Marianne is the one I enjoy most on me.. red musk is becoming a new fav) but if I was a woman I'd sell my entire current bpal collection and place an order for about 100 bottles of Inez. It's one of the few bpals I'd consider a perfect scent, and because it is not cloyingly sweet and the 'tone' of Inez seems to melt into the skin perfectly, this is definitely one you could slather on - although moderate applications should be sufficient as the throw and life are what you'd expect with a vanilla/amber/sandalwood base. I'm almost 100% certain Inez will age gloriously as well, coaxing the sweetness of the vanilla out into the open. If at first Inez seems nutty or too strange, let it age. Sorry for the novel, but Inez deserves props for being so damn perfect.

What smells like Irish Spring Soap?

I just did a search for Irish Spring in the review forums, these scents seemed to have the most references to Irish Spring: Thalassa Thunder Moon Whippoorwill (this has a ton of Irish Spring references) Tempest Kingsport Leanan Sidhe

    Event Horizon

To me this smells like Minotaur + honey Can't stop smelling.

    Plunder

This is easily my favorite cinnamon blend and definitely feels like it has a "pirates in winter" vibe to it... copper spoons pulled from the sea and oddly shaped vials of spices. This is a pirate's Christmas, a reddish/brown warm/wintery spicy aroma.. but the first 10-15min = Red Hots candy before it backs off and the scent has room to breathe. Very different from the other pirate scents but equally as good.

    White Rabbit

SO GOOD. This smells like fresh dough, pastry crust and milk. Of course, I put this on about 2 hours ago and forgot about it until just now (very light throw) so I'm sure I missed out on the pepper/tea/linen phase, but right now it smells so warm and delicious, milk and dough with a faint vanilla holding it all up.

    Hand of Glory

This scent is creepy as hell smelling. I don't know how else to describe it. It's sweet from the beeswax but it's a macabre and mild sweetness that's on the edge of going sour. Just reading the description of this ("The fingertips themselves are aflame, yet the desiccated skin is not being consumed.") then smelling it is eerie. Something about Hand of Glory smells incredibly realistic. Beeswax is the dominant note throughout and leather+black pepper with nutmeg in the background. No idea what saltpeter smells like but there is an ashen/charcoal note somewhere that is really nice. I've never smelled anything like it before. This stuff is hair raising.

    The Illustrated Woman

This seems to have the same vanilla that Defututa has, and the honey/patchouli combo reminds me of Sed Non Satiata. This bottle isn't mine as I ordered it for a friend but I still think it's nice and I agree this will likely turn into a popular one.

    Knucklebones

This is indeed fizzy smelling, it almost reminds me of a bay/lime/gin version of Pruno.. spritely, fizzy and tingly to the nose. It almost has a bathroom air freshner vibe that Pruno, which I love, had. After 45 min, the lime recedes and the black musk makes its presence be known. Knucklebones morphs into something considerably darker with time. ETA: Two weeks later and I'm really loving this... it's a great scent for summer (along with Dorian and The Shivering Boy). I've been wearing Knucklebones daily and really enjoy it. It's uplifting and light.
  14. This is great! It's like the lab took the book/paper note from Lurid Library and made it a singlenote, like paper that smells like it's sat in a room full of dense incense smoke. This is the ultimate old paper/book/library scent, and under it I get something that almost smells like dusty old stones and rain. ETA: I agree with the OP: The Wunderkammer set is easily my favorite thing the lab has ever done.

    Marianne

This is without question my favorite red musk blend. I really don't get any floral scent here at all (thankfully) and I'm not noticing any similarity to Snake Charmer. To me, this is in league with Scherezade and Satyr, but less masculine and more gender neutral, and far more refined/classy. This is really unlike any bpal blend that I've tried and I will probably get another bottle before the Carnival leaves.
  16. After a couple months in the bpal world and my fussy nose refusing to distinguish individual notes I went to an oil shop and bought 1/3 dram vials of about 40 different oils. It was a great way to train my nose to sniff out particular notes. For me, bpal oils are blended so well that picking out individual notes isn't always the easiest thing in the world.. but of course there are oils like Goblin, for example, where the patchouli screams and screams.. but that's one exception. As for myrrh... it is such a cozy scent. I have never tried Black Lotus so I can't provide too much insight.. but the slightly sweet powder is pretty much synonymous with amber -- amber being my least fav basenote.. it's very basic when compared to 'meaty' and deeper basenotes such as sandalwood (heaven) and patchouli.

How to make a paypal order.

Ahhhh ok, that puts my mind at ease. I was worried I somehow goofed with the actual PayPal transaction.

How to make a paypal order.

I ordered via Paypal (the first time I used PP instead of CCnow to order from the lab) a couple hours after the Dyan Moon update went up and I'm worried if I did something wrong. It says the money went through but I never received a CnS though it looks like people who ordered after the 18th have gotten theirs already. I'll wait another week before contacting the lab... PayPal makes me apprehensive for whatever reason... I really prefer CCnow. I filled my cart using CCnow then pasted all the info (including shipping) into the PayPal notes of my payment and paid through PP... is that how most of you do it?
  19. It doesn't smell too far off from my aged imp of Dracul. On the other end of the spectrum, when I first smelled Count Dracula my first impression was that it seemed like a much more subdued and 'polite' version of Port Royal, which is a personal fav.

    Bruised Violet Compound

I agree with this 100% I'm not big on florals and wasn't expecting to like this one all that much but it is such an original scent. The entire Pharmacopoeia line has surprised me but none more than Bruised Violet Compound. The currants mixed with (good/deep/non-sandbox) patchouli, moss and violet all create a very well blended scent.. on the darker/earthier side of things.

    Slippery Poppy Tincture

This is a bright, fresh and mood lifting scent.. the ultimate poppy oil, a good one for summer. In a way, once it has dried, it smells like apple peels -- not the meat of the apple, just the unsweetened peels. I think this would be a good candidate for a room scent. ETA: This one has completely grown on me, a new favorite and the only thing I've been wearing lately. It's the ultimate mood lifter
  23. The Antikythera Mechanism smells very similar to Lucifer but without the patchouli and sweetness. I actually think this is better than Lucifer, but my skin completely swallowed the scent within 20-30min. This is really good stuff though.
  24. I love this one. This is most definitely the Root Beer version of Love's Philosophy, like a medicinal vanilla cream + unsweetened root beer. For some reason I was expecting something like Snake Oil since it also has a somewhat root beer-ish note to it (at first, before it ages), but this definitely seems like a spicier cousin of Love's Philosophy. The more it dries, the better it becomes.

The Bow & Crown of Conquest

I got this as a frimp from another forum member and was completely taken aback by just how good it is. The description contains notes I usually don't go for but this smells like Morocco meets Black Lace.. like a spicier version of Black Lace. It seems to have an almost 'regal' feel to it, very refined and stately. An earlier reviewer called it "gentle and noble", and I would say that's right on the mark. I really like this a lot.
