Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
celestia replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
Oddly enough, Autumn Overlooked My Knitting! I have no idea why, but it was a dead ringer for Daisy both on me and on a couple of friends I tried it on. Ah, how interesting! Did it smell like that straight from the bottle? I'm really hoping something exists without relying entirely on my skin chemistry to amp/drink certain notes. You're so lucky to have gotten that out of the scent though! Colour me envious! -
Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

On the off chance someone out there has sniffed it, I thought I might try ask again and if no one has, then at least there's no harm in trying! Has anyone come across anything that resembles or is similar to Marc Jacobs Daisy? -
Ahh this is my first time recommending based on personality....so don't kill me haha. I feel that London fufills the desire to travel and learn other languages- Mainly because London is brimming with many diverse cultures as a metropolis and international travel magnet/hub in its own right. Since you are indecisive I threw in Glasgow too, as they are geographical neighbours ;D. It is also historically significant to your personality given its glorious Victorian style era after Queen Victoria - for which the fashion you wear is named after. The scent itself is a "twisted, blackened" "rose", both symbols and words to describe a dark romantic. I think Victoriana Goth is quite literally fitting for this as well ;p Your wanderlust to travel also brings me to include Glasgow and Goofin' at Stonehenge... where the outdoorsy scents of late winter and crushed grass imply an utmost desire for hiking and exploring...The 'goofin' in the title reflects your preference for humour to bond- and a love for making others laugh. Goofballs was also selected because I feel it similarity reflects your nature to be funny- specifically around others. The wet grass, sunshine, dogs, dirt and flowers all further ground your preference for being outdoors around company. Your love of baking brings me to suggest Chocolate Stout Cupcake- because not only is it noticeably bittersweet from stout, but also opts for inky DARK chocolate for frosting...to reflect your fashion preferences perhaps haha. It is also a great contrast between bitter and sweet- combining predominantly masculine elements (stout) with feminine elements (sugary cupcakes).... I find it slightly amusing my scents are all mainly based in English/Ireland/Scotland hahaha. Here's the shortlist with descriptions: Glasgow: The rich scent of wild blackberry breezing over gentle rosy heather. London- Venerable Victorian Tea Rose… twisted, blackened and emboldened with wickedness. Goofballs: “wet grass and sunshine, dogs and wood, and my feet in warm dirt and flowers I pick.” Goofin' at Stonehenge: The chilly air of Wiltshires twilight in late winter, crushed grass, white musk, and Liliths lavender. Chocolate Stout Cupcake: Bittersweet chocolate cupcakes whisked with stout and topped with inky dark chocolate frosting. Victoriana Goth: English rose, lilac, frankincense, violet leaf, French lavender, and wisteria encased in amber and splashed lightly with a ghastly garden herb tincture.

Eeee let me know how it goes! ;D Almost everything you mentioned in your list contains red musk, so I thought maybe that might be it haha -

I definitely agree on all accounts. Lol my palate is relatively narrow. Despite being different genres, these 5 overlap in one way or another... As they are the go to 5 in current rotation, it prob has to do lots w the climate and flux of life. The selection recommended I will surely explore, though the photos might be more rare than what I currently DISO <3 On the gc..l antiKyM wears very wonky on me. I've tried both perfume and hair gloss, something about it is too warm and cloying. Muse of fire, I shall pull the imp. I must have it. As for banshee, it's really aged lovely... I just find myself not reaching for it as much as I should. Thank u Celestia xxoo P.s. Cascading blossoms is showing very beautiful at moment. As are volcano in spring time & blossoming vulva. Great light scents from this year's Lupercalia. Oh! On the contrary! I think they are quite diverse for a palate ;P Blacks, blues, purples- and airy whites with vanilla that is never in the foreground- though your wishlist also contains a lot of my favourites (pinks and golds). In fact I think they're all over the place! The only thing in common is they are all quite rare- haha! . Protos can be quite rare, which is why I've suggested them to you What you currently DISO are also quite rare- I think they are both on par to your price range of "tastes". I'd also suggest you give Antikythera Mechanism another shot given that other scents have gone wonky on you when fresh, but are ones you love now after even only a few months of "sleep" and aging (such as volcano in springtime and blossoming vulva which you did not like while they were in heavy sale rotation. Hopefully you didn't sell all by now!). Cascading Blossoms I remember bringing up when it wasn't so popular, I think at the time you mentioned not liking white florals so much- but it's just another example of how wonky scents are on you and to give the GCs another shot -

These scents share similarities with others but also hold their own, which explains why a lot of them still come with a high price tag in the aftermarket. You already own Feed me Fill me with Pleasure, Banshee Beat, So Below, Romanti Goth, and Butterflies Flowers and Jewels Attending which share similarities with this top 5 list- so my suggestions are are little different. The Girl- The First of the Three Spirits (some get more vanilla so ymmv) Black Lace- Osiris v4 Lucille Sharpe- Clytemnestra v4 Ava- Muse of Fire (It's a brighter, more explosive red/yellow/orange version of BFJA, which as you may know has drawn many similarities with Ava) Aradia - I know you don't really favor GCs unless they're long DCed and super rare, but you might appreciate Antikythera Mechanism. Maybe layer it with Banshee Beat? haha -

Whoah! That's a lot of red and heat on the list! haha I won't be very helpful for the majority of these scents as I hate red musk and a lot of spices- but i do LOVE The Instruction Manual! If you're into red-musk and fruits, you could give The Commentary a try (also has clove and vetiver). I would also imagine that given you mention Morocco as a favourite which carries carnation, you might be interested in Hod v2 which is more creamy and musky rather than spicy. The White Witch might also be of interest if you can cope with rose- (pomegranate, honey and red musk- with rose). I don't have a lot of experience with leather as I only like the note in less than a handful of scents.. but from what I've ready- have you tried VILF ? It mentions leather, honey, sandalwood, smoky vanilla and spices though quite gingery in reviews. Is the red musk what makes everything smell so similar for you in regards to those three scents? I actually can't stand red musk but The Instruction Manual was all Strawberry Sufganiyot and cherry blossom on me, haha! I'm sorry I wasn't of more help T_T -
Hellooooo!! Welcome Home!! Kidding, haha, welcome back! There are a LOT of wonderful new scents! The second half of your screen name, are you also a lolita? ;D I only returned late last year, so I'm catching up a little myself, but to start off, since you've mentioned Pink Snowballs and TKO, you might like to check out: De Vos' Unicorn and Allegory of Chastity from the current "Art of the Unicorn" update. De Vos' Unicorn Sugared peony and rose-tinted vanilla with mallow, white musk, lavender buds, and a touch of apricot. Allegory of Chastity Blushing rosehips, pink rose petals, and vanilla cream with white jasmine and a drop of bergamot. ;D

Thanks lucycat, you're right, I should give it a go... will kick myself if I miss out when it could be perfect. It was one of the first BPAL's I really wanted to try. When I think of sugared incense I think of midnight on the midway too (probably because it actually lists sugared incense as a note). I'm not sure how the new version fares with its blue musk (maybe adding to the soapiness some of the reviews are indicating?) because I haven't compared them, but the original is like a gorgeous sugared floral incense. Absolutely perfect for me- because it dries down to a musky sweet, cotton candy kind of incense. To an extent, it's like a midnight summer version of fairy market ;D . If you're up for a sweet tobacco incense, the newly released St. Clare might also be of interest (also has tonk and vanilla and none of your hated notes)

AVA <3 Definitely echoing the suggestions given to me ages ago when I needed BPAL equivalents to V&R Flowerbomb- and that one is Butterflies Flowers and Jewels attending. Amsterdam was quite spring watery and grassy for me- maybe Phoenix in Spring, Venus Murcia, or Wild Dandelion SN. There's one more I can't remember...will have to get back to you ._. -
Amber is a general win on me and it shows.. most of my strong likes include some sort of amber in the description, nepalese amber being my favourite. It's worthwhile to note that amber generally dries down very sweet on me, so I tend to preference amber blends that bolster this aspect, and play to its strengths- such as sweet notes, like honey and creamy notes like vanilla...etc I seriously did not realise how much amber is present in a lot of my favourite blends haha. The ones I'm listing are ambers I feel that glow on me, but are showcased similarly, but flourish and smeeellll very differently. A Wonderful Light: Three radiant ambers with honey, linden blossom, bourbon vanilla, and orange zest. I don't like orange, but I like this. Creamy, golden, honeyed amber. Blossoms in Springtime: Vanilla bean and vanilla blossom, golden honey, antiqued amber, beeswax, copal, lotus blossom, and helichrysum. Easily an all-time favourite of mine, mostly because it is largely accessible in the aftermarket, which surprises me - because that means not a lot of people have discovered how wonderful it is yet 'm pretty sure this the most undervalued blend I've ever smelt because on me, it would be a $400 scent. It's a creamy glowy sort of honeyed floral that is uplifted to unparalleled dimensions by the sweet amber present in it. It's a glowing kind of vanilla amber... and by glow, I mean it *glows*. Haloes: Oak, tonka, vanilla, white sandalwood, lily of the valley, white ginger, amber, and apricot. Warm, sweet, and woodsy vanilla amber blended seamlessly with a perfumed conception of apricot. It's a gloriously warm, incredibly distinctive, and cozy scent. The amber in this glows too.. Oh my... I seem to have picked only ambers that glow. LEL. L'Estate: Nepalese amber, vanilla infused amber, golden musk, sandalwood, golden lily, sunflower, and honey myrtle. Superior amber blend with all the right balance in notes afforded by the idea of 'golden summer sunshine'. Five more words: Nepalese amber all the things.

Ah, yes i think maybe 6 imps= 1 item aha. Was your 19-bottle order presented in a small flat rate box perchance? ;D Oh it's a shame about recycling day! I should have written this yesterday Yes it was a small flat rate box, that's what I've always received from the Lab. aha! well this helps a little! I wonder if the packaging is more padded with international orders :/ hmm

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
celestia replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I know there was one recommendation from 2009, but there have been a lot of releases and updates- so I was wondering if anyone has since found a BPAL scent that resembles Marc Jacobs' Daisy? (both in its "freshness" and scent - which ..well..has no daisy per se haha). It's one of the only citrus perfumes I can wear and I amp the Blood Grapefruit and Gardenia (and some other white floral wasn't listed in its notes) -

I did a google search and read up on all the old (possibly outdated) posts on how many 5mls fit in a small flatrate box (realistically)... and read that as a rule, they don't exceed 20 items but i imagine an item= imp ? I thought maybe also the box sizes might be different now- so at the risk of sounding silly and asking the same question twice in the span of a few hours/days/months - how many 5ml bottles would realistically (with sufficient, but not excessive) padding, would fit a small flat rate box (frimpage excluded)?

Scents have this incredible capacity to create future nostalgia for a particularly fond memory for which it was sniffed during. I think if you match scents with something that they like but can take it and "make their own", it'll be a lot more intense and powerful, what you could incite from them- than what you would get from just picking a perfume based on the role of a Bride. You could choose scents that you think go together that you think remind you of the bride (if you are closer to her) - that way youd have a grounding base in which to match with. I would suggest perhaps to ask them what they like, ask about their favourite memories, etc.. if you know about their personality, the kind of scents they like, then you could tailor it more intimately and personify the perfume to greatness. i thinks anyway

Did you have any list of your personal favourite for floralsl? ;D I love most of your vanilla list so I think this couldnt go wrong
-
omg omg omg steeeeekkkkkk!! Oooh I was also considering volcano in springtime!! (i derped and read blossoms as another blossoms haha) I was debating between stale chick and stekk and stekk won before deep down I wanted to believe I had matured... but now i wish I got it because my daughter's favourite colour is purple and the label is purple and it is *SO* her kind of scent. Though I didn't detect any florals in any reviews for stale chick- maybe ill have to track a bottle down afterall! haha

I have a set of the twins before the carnival went dark, gifted by my twin years back . I do have them down for back ups too though because Faith is just so lovely. Funnily enough, I also have muse of fire thanks to some easier recommendations. And you're right, Jezebel is not my kind of scent , unfortunately... But everything else was a bottle worthy win! Though none had the same honey quality I got from blossoms in springtime which I'm currently obsessing over.

aha! I think my favourite strawberry note thusfar is the one in strawberry sufganiyot and the instructional manual. I gather the strawberry in strawberry moon 09 is more in its natural habitat maybe? like in a strawberry patch of its own? Would that be right in thinking this is the case? I actually don't really thing I liked bon vivant because of the fizziness! (though it could have been the fact it was crystalline and not as sugary nom nom as i'd personally favour). I love your suggestions though, so maybe it'll turn out a surprise for me too? Though i imagine the velvet series go for quite a price. Yes, that's exactly it - the strawberry in Strawberry Moon is really realistic to me, not a candy Strawberry note - but that just reminded me of one that has a really good strawberry candy note, if that's what you're wanting Sticky Eyeballs and Floppy Entrails Sticky white glops of marshmallow and clotted cream with ropes of sinewy strawberry licorice whips and oozing pink jelly. this was mostly strawberry candy on me, maybe that's more what you're looking for? I was lucky enough to swap for my bottle of Velvet Pink Kitty - it wasn't on my radar even, but a certain lovely lady knew I would like it, and she was right! I imagine if you did get some, it would not be hard to rehome if it didn't work out, but it may indeed be quite pricey. I have battle fairy which also compared with sticky eyeballs but I didn't want both...but I guess I like the kind of real and fresh strawberry you get at a first harvest auction..The kind that smell almost candy like... And so fragrant, even inches away. So realistic and fresh, but juicy and ripe...And in a punnet rather than a strawberry patch of green. That's what I'm trying to track down! Haha

Big sugary floral lover here! Have you tried Venus Verticordia? Fickle dandelion florets dancing through honey-drenched wildflowers. I think it's my favourite honeyed floral ever. Or how about Peach IX Rose musk, peach blossom, and vanilla cream - it isn't listed as sugary, but I find the rose musk to be very sweet. Hard to find, but I just tried L'Estate, and OMG gorgeous sweet-amber floral! Nepalese amber, vanilla infused amber, golden musk, sandalwood, golden lily, sunflower, and honey myrtle. I have struggled to find Strawberry scents I could wear, but what has worked for me is Strawberry Moon 2009 Wild strawberries, strawberry flower, vanilla-infused sugar, early summer grasses, and milky dandelion sap. and also Love, which mixes the sugary floral element in too! Marshmallows and rose sugar with whipped vanilla cream and a hint of strawberry. And if you can find it, my ultimate strawberry is Velvet Pink Kitty Pink rock candy, strawberry cream, and splashes of gin, vermouth, and grenadine. Oh Venus Verticordia sounds AMAZING! And Peach IX has popped up several times so maybe i'll get that too! I actually have an empty bottle of L'Estate which I acquired some time during 2008 and I'm actively seeking to track it down! I've come across several strawberry moons and while I really like them, I get told the grass note (the fresh part) is supposed to cut through the sweetness of the strawberry- but I'm not even sure if I want any green in my strawberry! haha What does Velvet Pink Kitty smell like to you? Is it boozy because of the alcomaholic notes?

1.) Honey-Sugary-Creamy-Sweet Springtime Florals So i really *really* want to track down as many honeyed/sugared/creamy/sweet florals that don't have a "citrus", "orange", "dark resiny", "spicy" or "herbal" (and definitely no earthy/dirt) component. I'm after the perfect/ultimate honeyed/sugar/sweet floral! I've sniffed a candy-like floral which I really enjoyed because it smelt like a fruit floral (Katharina)- and ended up not like a candy as described often in the reviews. It also contained orange blossoms which only worries me if it is strong enough for me to detect the orange (rather than the generic cotton candy sweetness I love about it). That's the extent of the "fruity" I want my florals to be! I draw my "spicy" floral limit to "Alice" and I strongly prefer the kind of honeyed floral vibe I get from "Blossoms in Springtime", or the sugary incense from the original "Midnight on the Midway"... or even the sugary ethereal sweet florals that I get from "fairy market". But anything else sugary- whether it be honey, sweet musk, vanilla/cream/milky etc ... 2.) My perfect Strawberry scent. There is a huge gap and a lot of strawberries that came in. I don't like the kind that are "distorted" or "corrupted" by sharp, dark scents unless it lends to a deeper, richer, sweeter result (like bourbon vanilla, sweet musk, etc). I already own quite a bit from the new Lupercalia's just passed- but I know there's more out there, particularly between the years of my absence (2009-2015)! I don't like any from the GC catalogue and my interests tend to veer more towards the LE offerings. Maybe some suggestions to help me restructure or refocus my wishlist to increase the chances of more 'omg yay' and less 'oh no'? ;D

For another GC suggestion, one of my favorite honeyed florals is Jezebel (orange blossom honey, rose, and sandalwood). I get no sandalwood at all from it, just the first two notes, and it's one of the rare roses that works well on me. I've also heard good things about Round Dance as far as vanilla/strawberry/florals go, but I haven't tried it myself because carnation is not a good note on me. Faiza from Carnival Diabolique might fit the bill for a "deeper" floral scent. It's sweet and gentle but complex, and one of the few white floral-heavy blends I really like, possibly because of the inclusion of vanilla and black amber, but be warned if you're sensitive to cardamom - while my nose couldn't detect the cardamom in it, my skin sure could and went all red and itchy. Thanks for the recs! Jezebel turned funky on me, I think the orange blossom and sandalwood combination did something weird because I don't mind those notes individually! I think I'm not mature enough to take the plunge to deeper florals I guess ... such sad! I just put on some Katharina and there's only orange blossom as the flower but it's so wonderfully floral and candylike on me. I should have put that one on my list for recommendations Now i'm back to base 1. haha -

Ohhh! Time to track down this old Yule! I've actually tried most of the ones you've mentioned Belle Vinu was a little too citrus for me- and Les Bijoux I think the peach, rose and myrrh reacted amped strangely with my chemistry and made it smell weird.. but I think I might try it again! Kali had this strange chocolate scent (i love chocolate but it went funky on me ) I'm not a huge fan of myrrh in my florals (and most of my favour with spices and incense comes from them as background and supporting notes) Do you know how much myrrh you got when applying yours? I've read that it can smell a bit herby. I love the sound of flora! so sad it's a discontinued scent but Ill definitely hunt it down. Hetairae did not work on me at all i think it might have been the patchouli and clove being too much for the honey to handle (even though back then the honey absolutely reeked on me, I know clove and patchouli are still two notes I need to caution myself with. hmmmm Loralei I don't think is my kind of scent to be honest, neroli and sandalwood aren't really notes I run to as they amp on me strangely- and I seem to only like sandalwood with creamy or vanilla and musky bases...and riceflower doesn't tend to smell too fantastic on me, how much black musk is in Temp Temptation? hmmm - but I think hermia is on point!! adding to my list! Looks like all the discontinued scents piqued my interest...noooooooo hahaha
