    Blood Moon 2008

Wow, it has been forever and a day since I posted anything in here! But I got two bottles of this for my birthday, so here goes. I should also note that I've got a bit of a cold, so I may come back and edit this in a few days. In the bottle - a very earthy base with a electric high note wet - a slight metallic tang, very woodsy with a slight hint of musk, and very very dry. fades and settles to be a mild woodsy scent. I like it but I don't adore it as much as I adored the first!

    Concentration

I applied as directed. Very much the lemon mint that everyone else is describing, possibly with some eucalyptus or menthol or something. It does remind me of cough drops. I'm going to leave this box open and I'll let you know how much work on my thesis I get done tonight ;p I'm hoping I can finish this chapter. Well, I may yet finish, but I am not sure it's helping me concentrate on my *work* any more. Maybe it is just being overpowered by the Puck I put on earlier.

    Puck

That's a pretty potent 'drop' of grape they've added there! My desk is covered i imps, and all I can smell is the grape from Puck. I haven't opened anything yet! But here goes: In the bottle: Sagey grape Wet: I don't know how to describe this. It was sharpy civert-y for justva second, and then the oakmoss and sage stepped up to take things in hand. The grape still has a lot of throw. I can see how each of the ingredients is mixing with the other. I'm paranois about the coivet, but it seems to be getting along well with both my skin and the other notes. It is very animalistic. As it dries: The other notes come out to play with grape, mostly civet and sage. It is still mostly grapey, though, unless I give it a close-up sniff. It seems to be mostly staying this way. If there are any more changes, I will let you know

    Vixen

In the vial: Strong, alcoholic, but with incensy/spicyness to it Wet: SOOOOOOOOOAP. As it dries: Sharp incense, patchouli, vanilla, ginger underneath. I've tested this on the back of my wrist and it is kind of tingly/burny o_O Smells nice: worth the discomfort so far more drying: Sharp ginger w/patchouli and a hunt of vanilla. Also this sucker has throw Burning has subsided (I'm blaming the ginger). The orange blossom note is present, but sort of powdery, and adds a little punch, but isn't dominant. Impression: Ginger + Patchouli + Orange Blossom = Love!

    The Queen of Hearts

wet: Almost sneeze-inducingly flowery.... and soap As it dries, the flowers (lilies, presumably) start to behave better, and become less and less soapy. It's an airy scent, but a powerful one. It's got quite a bit of throw for the teensy bit I dabbed on. I can maybe detect a hint of cherry sweetening this up, but it may just be wishful thinking. I'm not really into lilies, though, and they are irritating my allergies just enough that I'm not especially inclined to keep it when I can try and swap for something more to my liking

    Blood Moon 2005

In the Bottle, Cinnamon, something woody...? Wet: CINNAMON drying: woody (cedar?) cinnamon, starting to pick up something else sweet, possibly vanilla, maybe dragon's blood. I'm tempted to say the later, because it has that 'candy' smell that I've come to associate with dragon's blood blends. So right now, all together, it is like wood and cinnamon hearts. As it continues to dry, I get nice dry kind of burny-wood that I get from Djinn, and the cinnamon blends in more and more, to the point where it is hard to pick out. About 20 min in, it's got more throw as a sort of sweet, vaguely cinammon-y wood. Oh, I knew I would love this!

    Scent for Halloween?

I dressed like a witchy-demon for school (basically super gothy... embrioidered black velvet skirt, black satin underbust corset, floofy black blouse, and knee-high boots... with curly green horns). I wore bunches of necklaces to accessorize, including my little corked bottle of peppermint single note mixed with jojoba (to make it last longer, see ^-^). I'd put on Three Witches in the morning, but it fades on me quite quickly, and all I've been able to smell all day is peppermint. I don't even need to put any on

    Scent for Halloween?

    I'm going as a princess. I'm thinking either The Living Flame, or maybe Kurukulla. eta: Definitely Living flame. I ran off to go pour through my stash to see if I might reconsider, and I knowcked over my bottle of living flame and spilled most of it . Waaaaaah! Might as well wear some from the puddle ;_;

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

Since this thread was revived earlier today, and since I was just reading the TAL thread, I thought I would take this opportunity to bemoan my allegy to lavender, which stops me from trying a lot of the conceptually hermetic blends, like Sophia, as well as general relaxation blends, and others that I otherwise love (Envy)... and now I find out Hermes, a TAL oil I was hoping to pick up eventually, also has it. *sigh* It's like turning on a faucet in my face. Or maybe three faucets...

    Djinn

An ancient, free-willed race created from the essence of Fire, much as man was created from Earth. They prowled the land at night, vanishing with the first rays of dawn. Myths surrounding the Djinn paint them as many things: benevolent champions of mankind and slaves to mad sorcerers, malicious incubi / succubi and energy vampires, or malevolent harbingers of madness and disease. The Djinn are ruled by Iblis, the Prince of Darkness, who bears unspeakable contempt for man. The scent of black smoke, of crackling flames, and smoldering ashes. Maybe I am crazy. When I apply this, I smell... ORANGE! Very bright orange, with sandalwood, and something more acrid and smoky lurking in the background. The dominant scent is definitely, definitely orange, though. very light, but very yummy, so far. As it progresses.... It remains orange. The other notes fade, eclipsed by the orange. Only it is kind of an industrail cleanser-orange.... a bit chemical, maybe. Maybe that's just the acrid-ness. As it continues to fade (about an hour and a half or so in), I can pick up the sandalwood underneath the orange, but they just don't want to play *together*. Sandalwood is having a grumpy day and doesn't want to come out and play at all, and orange thinks it might just take its ball and go home :/ I think I will have to give this another try some other time before I can pass final judgement.

    House of Mirrors

Just glancing up quickly at other reviews, I will agree with the perceived similarities with Thunderbird. It has a smiliar aquatic/ozone aspect. In the bottle, there is something fresh and floral, and almost soapy about this. It stays that way fresh, but the soapyness receeds fairly quickly and what is left is a very fresh, sharp glassy note. I'm sure I can smell ozone. As it dries, the amber comes out more, peeking out initially as a well concealed base note. About an hour or so in, it starts to get stronger as, as noted in the description, the glassy notes wavers and shimmers, capriciously changing its character as the amber warms around it. Now, closer to two or three hours in, I can still smell the amber and the ozone, and the glass seems to have settled down, almost. It's less prominent, but the scent still isn't homogenized, and it wafts about playfully. It has a decent throw, and it fairly strong, considering I can still smell it easily, and just dabbed a bit on the back of my wrists. I like it a lot rght now, but I usually have to wear a scent a few times before I can really pin down how much I like it I'm sure I'm keeping the bottle, at least.

    Miskatonic University

This is another one that OriginalWacky gifted me. In the imp, to me and everyone else I've allowed to sniff it, it smells just like caramel popcorn. Yum! Wet, it retains this smell, but quickly settles into something more reminiscent of Bailey's irish cream, with a splash of coffee. As it dries, it becomes more of a whiskey smell rather than purely Bailey's and coffee, and it stays that way for the rest of its 2-3 hour lifespan. I don't get the leather, smokiness, or old books at all; but I'm not really complaining. I love Bailey's, and the smell (if not the taste) of whiskey

    Peppermint

I recieved a sample of this from the very generous OriginalWacky when I visited her in Erie, and so I felt duty bound to review it Wet, dry, dry down, this stays a lovely, fresh peppermint smell. It is really quite strong, too... a little goes a long way. It is a very relaxing scent. I tried putting just a dab on each wrist the other night when I was having trouble sleeping, and I swear, it scented the whole room.... It's a real shame that it has been discontinued. As for staying power, I would estimate that it lasted about 4-5 hours on me, which is pretty good as my skin simply devours most oils.

    Jack

I will warn you all right off by saying that this did not agree with me at all. In the imp (even without actually opening it), it smells, well, I'd thought kind of like caramel popcorn. I'm sure it is just the sugary butteryness. I thjought that it woudl be a good thing. I wasn't feelign especially well yesterday when I tried it, and I though (foolishly) that a comforting food-y scent might make me feel better. I should have known. This is by far the stringest scent I have tried. I put it on, and it was sobuttery sweet that it just turned my already delicate stomach. I tried to wash it off. I got rid of the butter, and was left with a sickeningly sweet fruit and cinnamon smell that was equally stomach churning. I tried to wash it off again, and applied some Port-au-Prince over top, hoping that the buttery spicey rum would be a good cover. No. Jack dominated it from underneath, still a cinnamony sacharine sweetness, like over ripe fruit. It eventually settled down enough to be tolerable. I stuck it out, but I could still smell the peach (bleh) on my wrists when I went to bed last night. *quickly dumps Jack into her swap pile* Go awaaaaaay!
