General citrus recommendations - and discussion of all things orange
Salem replied to UltraViolet's topic in Recommendations
Yes yes yes! I don't post much but Kunstkammer is one of my absolute faves and definitely sounds like it'd fit the bill. It's very orange, almost medicine'y to me. Smells like orange flavoured liquid child paracetamol with a darker edge. I haven't smelt anything else that comes close. -
I've searched and found no particular thread for this so forgive me if I've missed something. I have a current obsession with Kunstkammer, always have but recently it has gotten worse. To me it smells like old orange medicine and that's what's sparked this sudden urge to generally smell like any sort of medicine. So! What other oils have that medical note? Doesn't necessarily have to be a sweet cough syrup note although that would be nice. I find Absinthe falls into this category too, so perhaps down that route also? Although not too heavy on the old aniseed as it can give me a bit of a headache. Thanks in advance!

Hello lovely BPAL people. To cut it short, my mum is getting married next month and I'd really love to make her a little imp set up for a present. I know from a conversation yesterday she's looking for an oil that smells like the old french boudoir talcum powders that she remembers from her childhood. I know she also loves white roses and lilly of the valley and I was just wondering for those 3 vague scents what would be the best? I know there are topics perhaps for the roses and lilly but I've searched for the talc and can't find anything, forgive me if there is! Thankyou very much.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
Salem replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
Not to be obvious, but have you tried Absinthe? Absinthe (Bewitching Brews) - Fall under the spell of our Green Fairy! An intoxicating blend containing wormwood essence, light mints, cardamom, anise, hyssop, and the barest hint of lemon. I've not tried the Lacroix fragrance, so I'm not sure if it actually smells like absinthe. I can assure you, however, that the BPAL version definitely does. To my nose, the strongest note in both the beverage and the BPAL is anise. You can find other anise-containing blends here. You might also take a peek in these threads to get layering ideas: Recommmendations for Green Scents Campfires, bonfires, fireplaces, burning wood and leaves... Oh I have Absinthe already. The Lacroix perfume doesn't smell like the tipple at all, unfortunately. Thanks anyway! -
Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
Salem replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I'm hoping this is the right place and I won't get slapped wrists. Absynthe by Christian Lacroix - My OH smelt this in one of those scratch and sniff catalogues and really liked it. Now, he already has a couple of BPAL imps and isn't one for store bought chemical perfumes so I'm wondering if there's a BPAL that's close to it instead. It's unlike him to want something that could be potentially tested but I don't want to poo poo his interest as I'd love him to wear more smells apart from the occasion dab of Whitechapel (which I love) or Fenris Wolf. The description is - "Seductive fresh spices and earthy greens infused with smoky woods" Thanks! -
I just had to proclaim my love for the following - Lambs Wool. How delicious is this scent? Oh how I wished I'd purchased a bottle of this instead of getting it from a decant circle. It smells perfect. Apples, spices, beautiful. Neil Gaiman - I couldn't help but treat myself to another of his books. Fragile Things is brilliant so I had to get Smoke and Mirrors to accompany it. I managed to finally read Snow, Glass, Apples tonight. Oh my. Fin.

******9/29***** Suppose I have a bottle of something you (my witchee) really wants, and I want to share it with you. Would you like a rollerball bottle made from oil in my own bottle in it? Oh yes! Rollerballs = simple brilliance. I don't mind dabbing and rubbing and whatnot but a simple rollerball is brilliant for on the go sniffage. I love decants anyway, whatever the container. ******Some days after 9/24 and before the end of the month****** What are your thoughts on Incense? I do like it, truth be told. I have a box in the house filled with "smelly" stuff for our living room and there are a couple of boxes of incense in there. I always have it incase I want.. I don't know.. to perhaps get a little wicca flowing, if you know what I mean. What about handbags/totes/clutches? Not fussed particularly. I like big slouchy bags that I can fill with rubbish. Preferably cotton and black. Simple! Are there any particular movies you want on DVD? We have mountains of dvds and some still in the shrink wrap. I don't tend to pay for movies either, which I shouldn't really be admitting. It's just one of those things. What about stickers?? Nowhere really to put them! Postcards and magnets on the other hand, weeheee! Do you just need anything from the Possets update? I've never really tried possets. I'm sure I have a frimp or two in the last couple of years but nothing that stood out. Maybe I'm ready to be enabled! ******9/24***** Do you use henna at all (hair or skin)? I did my hair once and it was a total waste of time. In reality I'm not too fussed. I do dye my hair but unfortunately I use nasty chemicals as my hair is so full of crap that I fear nothing else would take! I've been dying it for near on 10 years now, surprised I'm not bald. What about 2010 Wall calenders? Or 2010 journals or appointment diaries? What subject? Calenders yes! Something.. I don't know.. something me? Weird, wonderful. We have a nuns having fun one at the moment which is bloody brilliant. What are your thoughts on Halloween decorations? I'm pretty sure I've answered this before but I love them. Looove them. Old fashioned ones, wooden ones and stuff made from metal. What tarot card do you most identify with? The Lovers (answered this before in more depth) ******9/23***** Who collects ACEOs/ATCs? I couldn't even tell you what they were. Switch Witches, which shoes do you own that are your favorite? What are your "daily drivers"? Black primark pumps and a pair of old, falling apart ballet style shoes in silk leopard print with big old bows on the front that I bought ages ago in york. I wish I could find more as I don't think they're going last much longer If you could describe yourself in 5 words, what would they be? Weird, obsessive, dark, sensitive, eccentric Do you collect new/used stamps? Will you like to get stamps on your mails? I always see myself as the sort of person who would have this hobby but I've never ever got into it. Any WKAP you're excited about? Nein. How do you feel about stationary? (pens, notepads, cards, pencils, etc.) I really thought pens said penis. Oh my. Anyway, stationery? Not really for me. I have a pen and a bit of paper and that's about it. Notepads can be cool, but again, they have to be, looks wise, something I'm into. ******9/21-22***** The New update is next week.....Is everyone ready for the Yules and everything else in store? Arg! Yules! I've just properly sat down with my weenies! I do love a good yule though. My favourite is a yule (midwinters eve) so I'd get that if Beth did another. Cake or death? Cake please! And some brown bread.. first word sounds like.....brrrrown. Are there any foreign food products that you'd love to get or to try? Not particularly. I'm not really adventurous due to being a veggie. You sort of stick to what you know just for safety. Tea lovers, loose or bag? Paraphernalia? Everything. ALL! I love tea. teateatea! cthulhu.gif******9/20***** Would you object to annonomous postcards (real ones) from your witch before the big reveal??? I love postcards werewolf2.gif******9/19***** Do you drink alcohol? Wine, beer or liquor? What is your favorite wine/beer/mixed drink? I drink absinthe but that's about it. I'm really not a huge booze fan. Too many violent hangovers and too many times did I lose the contents of my stomach. Do you like to find out there's a package on the way or to receive a tracking number to stalk, or do you prefer surprise packages? Both. There's nothing quite like pushing the door open after work and seeing a bubble wrap mailer on the floor and wondering "What's that?! I didn't buy anything..? Did i?" If I were your witch, and I wanted to make you a spell or mojo bag, would you be into that? And, if you were, would you want it for something like love, prosperity or luck? Or would you want it for a certain element? Or would you want it for something more personal- and what might that be? I'm allll into that sort of thing. Definitely mojo bags for love. I don't think you can ever have enough positive love vibes. skull.gif******9/18***** Do you wear lip gloss/lip balm? If so, what flavors/scents? Lip Squeak from Lush which from what I know is now discontinued! Waaaah. It smells like spicy apple pie! I'd love any lipbalm that smelt like that sort of thing. Hell, I love ANYTHING that smells like spiced apples. Definitely my favourite scent... hence why I've got nearly every year of Samhain.. just waiting for that ultimate spiced apple thang. Cor. What is one thing you constantly keep with you that you constantly loose? My lighter. My own fault for being a smoker I suppose. Ho hum. What are your favorite fruits? Cherries, passion fruits, grapes, mango If Beth made a perfume called "switch witch" what notes would be in it? honey and amber, a glow of happiness, warmth and comfort. What is your favorite cookie type? Any! Nom nom. ghost.gif******9/17***** Are you into 80s movies (like i am ) if so, which are your favorites and who are your favorite characters? I like 80's b-movies! Do you like Villainess soaps? What are your favorite scents? I love villainess, but I know I've answered this before. I love the fact she does chocolate and berries SO well together that after using her stuff I actually want to nibble my arm. Do you mind artificial colors in your food? Not at all. As long as they aren't animal sourced then it's all good. Who wants hair pretties?(headbands, barrettes, pony-o's, scrunchies, bobby pins, hair clips, etc) bobby pins are always, always a plus. more so with little things on them. i have some awesome skull ones, a little bit of a cliche but they're so cute. If you were my witchee, would you like any of the scents/sizes that are available on clearance? I'm not sure I understand this question. Ahem. I am on an origami crane kick recently, so I wonder if anyone will be interested in origami crane earrings, origami crane in a glass vial (~1.2cm wide) phone charm/pendant or just a container filled with cranes of different sizes. Origami is cool! We do some bits at work and it fascinates me. Not sure I'd have an active interest in it though. How do you feel about clothing/accessories made from animals? Anti-fur, leather, shells, etc.? Does even faux wig you out? No. But I know my Witch knows this already How do you deal with stress? What's your favorite way to unwind? Foot rub, bath, lots of tea, video game or two. The usual. werewolf2.gif******9/16***** Who is musically inclined? What instruments (voice counts) do you play? Would you enjoy sheet music? I do sing, but since I became a smoker I wouldn't do it infront of people anymore. I used to sing in school concerts and at performances on my own, how I had the balls is beyond me. Now I just sing Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush in the shower. Favorite musicals? I saw Rent, the original cast too, in the Shaftsbury theatre when I was a kid, that was absolutely brilliant. I went to theatre school so I loved them all. Probably Rocky Horror is my favourite, but I prefer the actual film to the on stage musical now. I watched it religiously as a kid as my best friend was obsessed. We got into acting together and yeah, it'll always stick in my heart. I love the way the movie touches on total b-movie sci-fi horror. Which of the seven deadly sins is most likely to be your undoing? Lust. Anyone want a nickname and embroidered headband from PandaBite? Noo thankyou. I have seen a lot of yankee candles haters..... personally i like yankee candle (some of them, anyway). do you or don't you, and if not, what candles do you like? this assumes you like candles. otherwise, what specific home fragrance do you use? I don't mind them! I love their apple scents and there cranberry ones too. Lovely fresh red fruit. Would a "gift" donation to one of the organizations/causes you support be a great gift, or a lame gift? It'd be lovely, I support animal Aid, PDSA, the US Bat Sanctuary, Wildlife Trust, Any animal fund really, Dogs Trust, Cats Protection, any money towards dogs for the blind, anything..really. cthulhu.gif******9/15***** Does anyone have any symbols they consider to be personally significant or talismanic? Not really I don't think. Never really given it that much thought! Super villain or vigilante? Which would you like to be? Which would you like to receive? Vigilante every time. For the crafty people out there: would you prefer something crafted or crafting supplies? I do like a little bit of craft. I have all these BIG ideas of making things but end up always leaving them half finished. Poop. Can you use pill boxes, a hard ID case, coin purse, etc? Yes please! I love trinkets! Any songs you are desperately into at the moment? Anything by Florence and the Machine. Listened to a bit of The Doors too recently. If you're caught in front of the tv, what are you watching? Criminal Minds, CSI, BBC news or a documentary. Who else is reeeeeally looking forward to Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland? I was but.. arg. I used to love Tim Burton but it just isn't the same anymore. He seems to taint and ruin old stories instead of using his noggin' to create brilliance. How often do you update your wishlist? Not enough. I need a kick to do it really. Some days I'll go mad and scan through so much crap that I'll have notepads full but others it just doesn't feel right, like I just need "me" time to do it and nothing else. What's your stance on cranberries? YUM! Do you have a crush on anyone famous? Do you have a crush on any literary characters? Would you like fanfiction or fan art based on this/these people? I crush on Stephen Fry, Dorian Grey and Gambit. There has been a lot of talk about chocolate, but none about Candy! What is your favorite Candy? What candy do you hate? I love truffles and white chocolate, hate pretty much everything else. Haha.

What are everyone's favorite Halloween-y/Autumn-y/spooky movies? Are there any you don't own but would like to? Cor.. House of 1000 Corpses is a brilliant Halloween movie, even if Rob Zombie did steal the whole thing from TCM. I love, LOVE Hocus Pocus as a good family fun Halloween film. Tbh, me and the OH have stacks of old, italian gross zombie films so we don't see that sort as typical Halloween stuff - oh! Monster House is also good. I like either psychedelic weird horror or childs films, clearly! Are roasted pumpkin seeds and home made chex mix the best fall snack foods, or what? Chex mix? Being english clearly has it's drawbacks when it comes to these things! Whats your favorite pie, my dear SW's? Home made apple and blackberry or (fake) meat, potato and gravy which'd be homemade again. I like pie and it shows! What kinda socks are you wearing tonight? I don't really do socks. They're cute, but I like the whole cold feet thing. Do you like socks? Blankets? Wrist warmers? Arm warmers? Headband? Shawl? Or what kind of knitted thing would you love the most? I love those crazy cowl scarf things, with the buttons on them so they look like a big old cowl jumper neck missing it's jumper. Tres cute. Otherwise shawls and blankets are goood. How do you feel about ghost stories? Do you like to tell the old tales around a campfire? Read true accounts on the web way past your bedtime? Do you like to pick up a good anthology of Poe stories on a blustery day? Or is all that too scary for you? I like sitting with Poe and Lovecraft on autumn days, yes. I sorta maxed myself out on ghoststories when I was a kid. Who here is LOVING Warehouse 13? Again, english.. Nother question! Coffee or Tea? TEA! Teateatea. Unless it's Vanilla flavoured coffee - oh baby. Interested in locally produced products? Food, skincare or both? Oh definitely. Try and support anyone local as long as they're both ethical and honest. At a festival not long ago I found a woman selling organic icecream she makes herself and the 2 pound pricetag didn't phase me after she'd told me all about it and was genuinely a lovely person. Brilliant stuff. Does anyone in here wear a lot of dangly earrings or collect pendants of all kinds?? How about hair clips or pony tail band things? I have tunnels so no dangly for me. Pendants aren't really my thing either as I make my own jewellery. I'm a bit fussy when it comes to accessories. What is your favourite historical period? Easy peasy - Victorian. Madly, madly in love with the era. Total Victorian sympathiser. What other hot beverages everyone likes for fall? Hot chocolate, warm non alcoholic punch, flavoured coffee (eggnog coffee!) Did you order anything from the most recent update? I did a group order with a lass I know involving a bottle of Samhain and a bottle of Devils Night. Woohoo! Also in a decant circle for a bunch of 'weenie imps. Olive oil? On pasta, bread, cheese! In my hair, on my skin. Flavour it with stuff. Love it! Lavender? Touch and go. Fresh in the garden? Divine. Cosmetic? Headache inducing! Vampires or Werewolves? Or some other monster? Vampires. From being a kid and growing up with Bram Stokers Dracula - It's in my blood *arf* Any Gamers here? What kind? Board games? RPG? Miniature? MMORPG? RPG's please! Don't seem to play much anymore but I do have a little fancy for them. Otherwise I'm just a straight up gaming (xbox360) gal. Bit of a geek since getting my Spectrum when I was a wee child. Imagine that you're given a shoebox-sized time capsule, and you are asked to put any number of items in the box that symbolize who you are. The items can be may be anything you can imagine, and money is no object, but they must fit within the box. Which items do you choose? A picture of me and my fiancé, it's really truely all I genuinely care about outside my parents and staying alive. Are you involved in any long-term, ambitious project? I unfortunately don't do "ambitious", doh! favorite kind or take out kinda burger? whats your burger preference? veggie, meat or ???? Asda / Sainsburys meat free burgers. More so Sainsburys now. Beautiful. Won't bother with the "veggie burgers", y'know, the ones that are like mushed up potato and carrot in breadcrumb. I don't like my food chewed before I eat it! Whats your favorite childhood toy? Games consoles, how very sad. If you have a pet, what kind of gifts would be good for them? I don't have one icon_sad.gif Would any witches be interested in home-made sewn type crafts? If so, what type? (e.g. tote bags, pillowcases, laptop covers, etc..) Pillowcases would be AMAZING. I have, perhaps, a little obsession with pillows. So comfortable. What's your favorite color? Black, Grey and cream. Steampunk? Yes purlease! I love the more victorian edge as opposed to stuffing everything with clock gears and cogs. Describe your ideal picnic lunch. Where would you go? Who (if anyone, and yes there can be multiple people) would accompany you? What sort of food would you take? And, of course, if a picnic lunch sounds like a horrible idea, feel free to say so! In the middle of the forest at night.. and somehow.. there would be fairy lights everywhere. I'd take my bloke, noone else. We'd have cupcakes, warm apple cider and little triangle sandwiches. Do you like pinup art/images? Love them. I've always wanted a pin-up girl tattoo but never got around to it. Sigh! What are your plans for Halloween? Have you made any yet? Do you have any traditions? Hopefully have a little fire in the garden with some home made punch, cooked home food and a little music for a couple of close friends. I want to celebrate autumn as much as Halloween. I love them both. Tradition wise I just try to open myself up a little more on Halloween. BPAL forum buddies? I don't really have any, sob. Saracakes is lovely though and we've spoke a couple of times. If you could decorate/redecorate any 1 room in your home, what would it be and how would you decorate it? I'd love to turn the bathroom into a victorian surgical theatre. Why are you looking at me like that?! What's your favorite animal? (You can have more than one.) In terms of what I'd love to have.. cats. I love cats. Bats are beautiful too. Other weird things though, like Octopus and Manatees are absolutely brilliant. This is how the world ends... zombie apocalypse, robot uprising, alien invasion, return of the elder gods... which doomsday scenario do you prefer (or make your own!)? Blatantly going to be a Zombie Apocalypse, more so now with that strain of fungus that takes over insects in total zombie mode. Ugh. In the year 2525... if man is still alive... what sort of future do you imagine? (apologies to anyone who gets that song stuck in their head!) The same as now. Nothing will ever change, technology will get better but still be restrained by mans intelligence and war will still happen. Humans will always be humans. Do you believe in magic (or magick, if you prefer)? What does it mean to you? Yes. I was brought up with it and will always hold it dear to my heart. I wish I could practice more but never seem to be in the right frame of mind or have the tools to do so. If you found the puzzle box from Hellraiser, what would you do with it? ( and would you be able to resist playing with it? Blatantly put it on ebay. what's your favorite candy to stock up on at halloween? Orange chocolate, candy apples, cinder toffee! What are your phobias? *big breath*.. heights, needles, surgery, injections, spiders, ants, wasps, beetles, breaking bones, losing teeth, mannequins, being on my own. What is your favourite flower (or plant)? White roses, lotus flowers. an anonymous benefactor gives you $500 (or an equivalent amount of money in your currency of choice) with the following stipulations. You must spend all of it within a week: any money left unspent must be returned. You must spend at least half of the money on yourself. You may not use it to pay off debts or bills of any kind. what do you do with the money? Blatantly a big BPAL and Villianess order. I'd buy my bloke the Micro Korg he's been asking for for the last year, treat my mum and stepdad to a lavely wedding gift and take my dad out for a top nosh meal. All sorted, everyone would be fed, watered and treated and I'd smell beautiful. duct tape purses and wallets and things are pretty darned cool. who else thinks so? Um..no. cthulhu.gif For the tea and coffee drinkers: Opinion on tea- and/or coffee-related accessories/etc? Infusers! Seriously! I have a little ball one and bless it, it really doesn't do much. I'd love a new teacup and saucer. I've been eyeing up some vintage ones recently. If I send you whole spices or coffee beans, would you be able to grind them or would you prefer them preground for your convenience? Coffee beans - preground due to not having any mechanical device that'll do it here. Whole spices are brilliant though, purlease! I'm a bugger for putting things in jars to make the kitchen look pretty and/or like a laboratory. new question, because I'm learning how to sew - if you do any kind of craft, could you use supplies? What kind? knitting needles, yarn, amazing fabric, pinking shears, cool thimbles or pincushins, jewellery making supplies, beads, etc.? I'd love to start knitting so needles and wool would be brilliant! Other than that I like working with brass findings quite a lot. Etsy is my spiritual home. What's your favorite pain-relief remedy or ritual? Pills, and lots of them. Shake me and I rattle. Do sounds make you happy? What ambient noises make you smile? I love ambient sound in general. The OH purchased one of those Buddha Boxes and they're brilliant! I love thunder too, church bells, birds. I think sounds in general are absolutely amazing and the fact they can bring back memories or change moods fascinates me. Rain storms (added with thunder) are something out of this world. when you receive your SW packages...do you like receiving things that are individually wrapped inside? Or unwrapped? Or both? I do love attention to detail. Really, really do. Of course, we're all going to be grateful no matter what our witches give us, but for the record, what is your anti-present? Tell us something that you think your future witch might give you that you absolutely, unequivocally DO. NOT. WANT. - Cute / furry / pink stuff / stationary. I just, it's not.. gah, that stuff is just not me. I work with toys so I see no appeal really anymore (apart from the wind up monster collection. Clockwork Frankenstein? Brilliant!) I'm greatful for anything, but I think it's obvious.. perhaps.. from what I've written so far that I lean away from most common cute things. What BPAL scent have you never tried but always wanted to? What scent have you tried and LOVED, and haven't been able to get more of and why? Never tried - All of the Sleepy Hollow scents, ARGH. Very annoying! I know I could if I searched but something always seems to get in my way. Black Lace is another! I can't think of any off hand that I've tried but not gotten again. I guess I'm lucky with finding bits if I smell them and then set my heart on them. I did have a problem with Smut for a while but the OH found me a bottle which is now stashed until my birthday, waah! i know we're all scent sensitive here. what are your favorite non-perfume smells? day in the life stuff? Fresh coffee, lemon kitchen wipes, morning air, my mums cat (she smells like a teddy bear!), the duvet in the morning when you're all snuggled up. Nervous? Very. First SW ever and I'm just.. argh. Bouncing! I can't wait. Scared, completely scared, that'll mess up or get confused though. Coffee drinkers, what types of beans to you like? Kona, Sumatra, Kenya..etc. How do you like them roasted? Do you like flavors, such as hazelnut, vanilla, etc. in your coffee? We have a dark Sumatra here and it's DELICIOUS! the OH loves his dark coffee, hot lava java being one of his faves along with the Sumatra whereas I like medium coffee blends mixed with flavours like Vanilla, Chocolate and boozy notes. We got a Danish Pastry infused coffee the other month - absolutely to die for. The smell and taste are just.. orgasm worthy! who has a birthday falling in this round?just out of curiosity - Meeeeee. 21st of September, hurrah! I'll be 24, how time flies!

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love
Salem replied to any_old_actress's topic in Recommendations
I've got my Samhain 07 and Dia De Los Muertos 07 for autumn days. I just wish Samhain would calm down on me and not make me endure an hour of pine needles before going to the yummy apple side. -
This is from an imp of the '08 version. In the Imp - Sort of smoky chocolate almost. It isn't giving off much scent on the second sniff, I think it's either very faint or my senses are completely overpowered already. I get a bitter sort of cider apple in the background - maybe like one of those chocolate covered apples! Wet - This is the pine needle right? This weird public toilet cleaner smell.. argh. The apple cider smell is morphing into almost.. dare I say it.. urine smell with the backdrop of the pine needles. This is seriously not good. I'm actually really gutted. Drydown/Dry - This is more like it! Yes! It's mulled apples - not fresh perfume apple like say.. The Hesperides.. it's more "If it wasn't my wrist I'd try and drink it". This is walking down a leaf filled path on a cold autumn evening/night. I'm so, SO relieved that this works and the little hiccups at the start disapear within minutes. I can now sleep easy with my '09 5ml order.

How to put this down without sounding like the black sheep. I'm incredibly gutted and upset about my experience with the old Snake Oil. Sniff from the imp - This smells familiar. Familiar but missing something. Wet - A bit.. dare I say it.. acrid? It's spicy, exotic and sexy don't get me wrong, but it's almost bitter. Drying/dry - No, no, bad Snake Oil! No industrial toilet cleaner, bad! This turned awful both times I've put it on my skin and let it dry. No vanilla, and I love vanilla. I even tryed layering a sugared cream scent with it but that morphed it into a beast and I had to scrub my wrists. I'm absolutely gutted. I love heady, spicy scents and I love vanilla and usually they both work on me. The OH liked it but I'm just not sure. I'm going to give it another go in a couple of weeks - scents just don't seem to be playing ball on my skin at the moment (ones that usually work too).

You're all great, thankyou ever so much. Now to see if I can get a couple of these in time for next month, eek.
-
Booooo! Van Van sounds brilliant due to the smell and vibe of the perfume. Fleurs too due to possibly the lilac. Ahh, thankyou very much! Now I must hunt for these lovelies.

Oils to relax, calm, soothe, restore your sanity...

Thankyou ever so much, they definitely seem like the scents I'm looking for. Time to scan the for sale section and see if I can get my greedy little hands on something. -
Oils to relax, calm, soothe, restore your sanity...
Salem replied to Shollin's topic in Recommendations
Bit of a different road for this subject but I was wondering if anyone could recommend me an oil or two to, well, cheer me up? I left home recently for the first time and as much as I'm happy - I miss my mum terribly. I know it sounds daft and at 23, living with my fiancé, I should be fine.. but days (like today) it just hits me like a bag of bricks. Between that and my work life not always being the greatest I just want a scent that'll cheer me up, make me realise it's not so bad and calm my anxiety a little. Anyone? -
I was stupid excited to get this in the mail this morning. Imp - Freshly made honey and lemon drink. Odd! Amazing but odd. There's a bite to it from the lemons and somehow from the apples and rose I'm getting a sweet honey smell. I had to resist to pour the whole imp over me right then. Skin - Oh crap. I'm not sure about this now. At first it was apples, apples and green which to me is great. Now? Now it's turning into lemony rose polish. Bitter and almost chemical smelling. Wrist away from my nose it's turkish delight but up close it's heady and soapy. I'll have to see how this goes after an hour or two, I'm just hoping something softens. Edit - Dry - It softened slightly. The man quite liked it but I wasn't completely sold. More apple did come out though. As the man put it "It does smell like an airfreshner, but a non chemical one that you wouldn't mind spilling on yourself now and again". Sums it up for me really.

It can't be more than a year old - the Retail-Only Salons came out in October of last year, I believe. I did some decanting when they first came out, and I remember El Amor being pretty funky in the bottle - and it was one that I had to roll very well to get the layers to blend. In short, don't let the separation phase you - it just means that some components are thicker/heavier than others. Have you skin-tested it? I've had the rancid oil scent happen only a few times - and only once was the oil actually bad once it was on my skin. That said, if the decant was somehow contaminated before you recieved it, you may well have a stinker on your hands I put a little dab on my arm and left it as long as I could stand the smell and it didn't seem to change. I might try it again but I'm wary of smelling like week old fries. It smells almost like pepper in the bottle too, which is odd as I can't remember it smelling like that before. I'm wondering if it's destined for imp heaven.

I have a decant of El Amor Y La Muerte and I'm guessing it's gone real bad. I don't know how old it is exactly (I've had it just under a year) but it separates as soon as you leave it alone for a couple of minutes and the smell? Well, it's more old frying pan oil then clove, sandalwood and rose. Could this just be one for the rubbish bin? Or am I missing something? It made me cough a little when I smelt it I have to say. Also, I don't think I've opened it more than 4 times since having it and all my oils are stored away from light and warmth. Sad sad sad.

Oh my, that sounds amazing.

They all sound amazing actually. My want list is starting to hate me it's getting so big. Is Snow Glass Apples more a clean crisp apple? As I'm really into that at the moment (I can smell that when Lilium Inter Spinas is wet in the bottle and it makes me smile)

The more and more I read the more I tell myself I need Samhain. It just seems to sum me up. Al-Sharain sounds absolutely wonderful so I'm going to search for an imp of that now. Are there any lemony spice blends? I'm worried I'm going to end up with a stack of similar smelling ones because I'm scared of changing from my usual "spice, sandlewood and patchouli" order.

I'm a newbie when it comes to pumpkin so I've scribbled out Jack for now, thankyou! Blood Countess sounds amazing too. Another one for the list. I'm getting a little obsessed again I feel.

Having been away from BPAL for a little too long I'm struggling to remember all the lovely knowledge I picked up, so here I am appealing to the veterans! Basicly here in sunny England it's getting a little cold most days which makes me want to break out the autumny winter scents already. I've wrote myself a little list in notepad and wondered if I'm on the right track - Zombi Bordello (a recommendation as it's not the easiest to come by Midwinters Eve anymore) Snake oil Jack Old Port-Au-Prince Seraglio Al Sharain I'm looking for real warm, spicy, old scents. I don't want to buy 2 different ones that have the same under tones though, as I've done that numerous times before. I need to weed out any that might not be right and perhaps narrow the list down to 4? And to give an idea of what tickles my fancy - I absolutely adore Brown Jenkins and Midwinters Eve (07). Thankyou! And hopefully this isn't treading on anyones toes.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Brilliant, thankyou. I saw Bordello mentioned a minute ago (I clearly was being blind, doh!) so I'll definitely check that out. Are the Midwinter's Eve from past Christmas' the same as the 07 blend? (Daft question perhaps).
