    Dorian

Dorian was a HUGE disappointment for me. I bought this when a number of people recommended it for someone likes Mouse's Long and Sad TAle, which is my ultimate favorite fragrance of all time. Unfortuantely, Dorian was a huge miss. It started off delicious--it smelled of cake and musk. But as it dried it turned into some kind of horrible, plastic doll scent. Like a vanilla scented, off-brand strawberry shortcake character. It never got so bad that I had to wash it off, but after 30 miutes I was definitely not feeling the love. If this scent had just been the tea and vanilla, I bet I would have loved it. But the musk + vanilla turned into a bad situation for me.

    Voodoo

In the bottle: WOOD. Yikes, vetiver! On the skin: Smells like Marie Lavoe's. Exactly like a voodoo shop in N'awlins. (Funnily, I put this on my son who said, "Smells liks cola!" I didn't think it smelled lke cola, but I'm giggling now reading the reviews that other people though the same thing he did.) I really liked this on me, but a little goes a LONG way. I only put a few drops on my wrist and it made me sick after about 30 minutes. I'm thinking maybe a drop on my scalp might be good on the rare occasions I want to smell like a voodoo shop.

    Wilde

*laugh* Okay, yeah. I wouldn't have thought it without having read this, but now that I've read it...yup. But anyway, I really like this. I would love it if my husband would wear this, but I know he won't. I think it's very pleasant.

    Loup Garou

I really, really like Loup Garou. And the scent isn't me at all. But when I smell it, I smile. For a while I layered this with Carnal as my regular scent. (But then I discovered Mouse's Long and Sad Tale and I never wore anything else again!). It's fresh and green and makes me happy. I think this is a gender neutral scent. My husband says women shouldn't wear it. My 5 year old son likes it, but when I tried to get him to wear some he informed me that it "wasn't sweet enough". I guess he's not old enough yet. Maybe in a few years. But yes, I really like this.

    Snake Oil

I think I might be the only person in the world Snake Oil didn't work for (I'm starting to wonder if any non-clear perfumes will work on me; so far they haven't. Is that weird?) I found Snake Oil too sweet and strong, and i LOVE vanilla. Oh well; I have a friend who loves it so I'll give it to her.

    The Pool of Tears

I reaaaaaaally like this in the vial. And I reaaaaaaaally like it wet. I love aquatics, and I love white florals. Unfortunately, after about 30 minutes it turns into men's cologne on me! (Cool Water, anyone?) If my hubby wore cologne I'd love for him to wear this, but he won't.

    Queen of Sheba

I love almond, and I just knew I'd love QoS, but alas, it was not to be. In the vial it smelled sharply green--something unpleasant. I almost didn't want to put it on my skin. Wearing it, the green, sharp scent fades away and I'm left with an almond, soapy smell, but it's not fresh almonds. It's kind of a rotted almond smell. That, combined with the fact that it turned to soap on me, made it one for the swaps.

    Eat Me

Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants. I really wanted to love Eat Me, because I really love vanilla cake. One of my favorite scents is VS's "Vanilla Lace" which smells just like vanilla cake to me. So I was hoping Eat Me would be a good BPAL alternative. Unfortunately, Eat Me is so sweet I can't wear it. This seems to be my fate with BPAL dessert/ sweet scents: I had the same luck with Bliss, Gluttony, Snake Oil and Vice. It's just too cloying, and makes me sneeze. EDIT: My initial response was very negative, but after some time I wanted to revisit the perfume. It's growing on me! I had some very strong preconceived notions about what Eat Me should smell like. Now that I know what it smells like and don't expect ti to be anything else, I find I like it. It's still a bit heavily sweet. IT doesn't smell like cake so much as just...super sweetness. I"m stlll searching for my perfect foody. But I don't hate this. Wouldn't buy a bottle. But it's okay.

    Mouse's Long and Sad Tale

Mouse's Long and Sad Tale is, quite simply, the fragrance I've been looking for all my adult life. I adore vanilla, but I find it's difficult to come across a vanilla that doesn't smell cheap, or plastic, or like a candle. And while there are times I love to smell like cake batter, it isn't the scent I want for my signature. When I first opened the imp, it was vanilla and sweet pea, and I thought to myself, "Hmm, this could be nice." My first impression was positive, but not overwhelmingly so. In fact, I put the imp down to try some of the others in my order. When I finally tried it on, my first impression continued to be, "Wow, this is quite pleasant" but I still wasn't blown away. It wasn't until later that day that I realized it was The Scent. This fragrance morphs a lot on me--it goes from vanilla and flowers to plain old amber (which i also love) to a heady blend that just smells like Beauty on me. I'm a dark haired, golden skinned person, and I like a smell that matches my coloring--warm, a bit sweet. I wear this every day. It's my absolute, hands-down, all-time favorite perfume and I can't imagine loving anything else the way I love this scent (though that doesn't stop me from looking!). I feel centered and confident and beautiful when I wear this. It isn't sexy or powerful--but its feminine, and makes me feel like I *own* my body and my space. It makes me feel *good*. Isn't that what perfume should do?
