at first this was quite coconuty like suntan lotion and i thought i was gonna hate it 'cause i don't like suntan lotion smell. but that faded quickly and now it's got only a faint coconut smell layered with a lovely sweetness and just an overall gorgeous aquatic scent. this isn't menacing at all to me, though, it's very warm, pretty and comforting. does remind me of sailing, though, for sure, on a warm summer day. i think this would be good for guys, too...though it's a very pretty scent, i can see it being unisex.

i love this scent...warm, sweet, spicey and resiny. unfortunately, i can't put it on my skin AT ALL. this is the only BPAL oil i've had this problem with and i've worn plenty of blends with cinnamon in them so i'm not sure what the problem is, but when i put this on, it immediately started to burn my skin:( i had large, red welts within seconds and had to wash the stuff off my neck, chest and wrists. this is a strictly scent locket scent for me, which is a shame, because i'm sure it would have smelled gorgeous once it dried down and morphed with my skin chemistry:(

unlike most people in this thread, i don't think darkness is aptly named. this doesn't strike me as a dark, despairing scent at all. i think it's quite warm, sweet and lovely, actually. this kind of reminds me of a more floral dragon's blood...has the same resinous sweetness and warmth to it. gorgeous, gorgeous myrrh. my overall impressions of darkness are a light, lovely sweetness that's not at all foody or overpowering. a musky, ambery sweetness, not a food sweetness. perhaps a bit of a dirt or loam note, but it's in the background and not prominent. light florals mixed in with the musky, ambery sweetness to give it a little kick different than dragon's blood. this scent, to me, is warm and gorgeous. based on the description i wouldn't have tried this because it sounds cold, dark and menacing, but it's not at all. it's not overly floral either so don't be scared away by the florals. i got this as a frimp with an ebay bottle purchase and am glad i did 'cause i totally love it and wouldn't have tried it otherwise. it's yummy goodness!

mmmm...blood orange and amber, how i adore thee! this is lovely. the blood orange and amber are for sure the dominate notes on me, with lovely light florals and a nice woodsy note in the background to balance out the sweetness and make this a warm, gorgeous scent. -
mmmm. this is a very light, fresh, clean scent. when i first put it on it was bright, bright white tea and florals. then that faded quickly and the chrome came out. oddly, the chrome is sweet, which i don't mind because it's not overly sweet and it's a clean sweetness. i can still smell the white tea and florals behind the chrome. this is lovely!

this is so gorgeous! i was afraid of the pine in this one because it tends to amp on my skin and at first it was all pine which terrified me. but the pine fades and becomes just a lovely, woody background scent. this is an absolutely perfect blend that is musky, a touch woody, resiny, and sweetened with vanilla. it's exotic, warm and perfect. i must buy bottles of this.

i'm picking up a bit of the sweet orange and some lovely herbally goodness. this is a dark scent, for sure. there's such a mix of notes here the scent seems to constantly morph and change and i love that. it's not a heady scent that wafts around you, but one you have to search for...just a bit of a mysterious halo around you. very fresh and sexy.

overpowering rose at first, but it fades after a few minutes and the other notes start to come out more. there is a nice green scent (sage, i am guessing) and a sweetness that must come from the cocunut. also the ever intoxicating lilly of the valley makes and appearance and the nice mossy note keeps it all from getting too perfumey and floral. mmm.
-
i had high hopes for this one because i love moss scents, but the honeysuckle amps on me and all i get is sweet, sweet, sweet at first. then the sweetness dies down and i'm left with more of a powdery aquatic that reminds me of fabric softner sheets. boo hiss. i wanted to love this but my whacky chemistry has other plans.

this is going to be a favorite of mine and i need a big bottle! in the bottle this just smelled sweet and i was worried i wouldn't like it. but as soon as i got it on my skin, i knew i was in love. this is spicey, slightly sweet and musky. reminds me of a soy candle i had in college and couldn't get the smell of out of my head...i've been searching for that scent ever since and have found a variation of it here. this particular combination of scents is magic on me!

this is gorgeous! wonderful dark fruityness mingled perfectly with herbal notes and smooth wood. a dark reddish purple scent i could see myself wearing quite often. wonderful!

in the bottle this was sweet, sweet, sweet. very sweet on my skin as well. the vanilla and red musk amp majorly, then the red musk takes over completely. it's way too red musky for me. i want to be able to smell the florals and the vanilla more but my chesmistry just picks up the red musk and runs with it.

this is a very sweet floral. it strikes me as very pink, innocence saddened. there's a bit of a sharp note to it that keeps it from being too sweet and frou-frouish. overall i think it's a lovely scent i was pleasantly surprised with. good throw and lasts quite a while.

in the bottle this smelled peppery and very strongly of herbs with a nice trace of dustiness. i decided to wear it today to farmer's markets 'cause i thought it would be fitting. once it got on my skin for about 10 minutes, some lovely florals came out as did a yummy cinnamon scent that is now the predominant note. i'm still getting a little bit of the dustiness and herbs, bust mostly very faint florals and cinnamon. it's yummy whatever it is. not what i was expecting after the initial sniff from the bottle, but purty and delicious all the same. i smells good!

in the bottle and on my skin wet this just smelled like a masculine, after-shave type cologne. not over-poweringly so, and a lovely masculine sent at that. i wasn't getting anything aquatic at all, nor anything ozone. just a regular ole' cologne type scent. once this dried down, though, it become a softer and very lovely aquatic on me. there are still very masculine notes to it, but i am definitely getting some brine-iness and a the feeling of stepping into warm, soothing sea waves lapping at my feet and ankles. this smells like the sea surrounded by an aromatic forest of fir trees and mellow, never over-powering florals. very yummy, comforting and lovely. i can't stop smelling myself and may need to get a bottle of this gorgeousness which i wasn't expecting to love, but do.

got a sample imp of this as an extra when i bought a bottle from a fellow forumite and was delighted because i'm a versailles history fan, especially marie antionette. this wasn't what i was expecting from the description of the scent. to me, it's not grand and robust at all, but rather a mild and meek scent which doesn't last long. i've only been wearing it four hours now and there's barely a trace of the scent left on my skin. i got no rose scent out of this at all. wet on my skin it was overpoweringly citrus, of the lemony pledge variety which at first made me sorry i'd slathered it on. but i've learned with many a bpal you have to wait for the dry down for the gorgeousness to come out, so i didn't panick and off to work i went. the dry down is MUCH better than the wet application. the lemon pledge smell dies down dramatically and out comes a lovely, warm amber. those are the predominant notes on me...lemony citrus and amber. no rose, no orris, nothing red about this scent at all. maybe a tiny hint of jasmine in the background. overall i'd say it's a warm, gold scent. mild, meek, yet comforting and warm.

so even though it's late may, i'm wearing sleepy moon for the first time today. it's an unusually cold and rainy day and i think i slept a total of 1.5 hours last night so i thought it was the perfect choice for today. in the bottle this is a strong, fresh, green floral. it's the same wet on my skin. i get strong notes of bamboo, ylang lang, and a wee bit of lavendar.i now that it's dried down and been on my skin about 3 hours it's awesome. there is a soft, fresh, sort of sweet scent to it but i catch these strong green pangs of bamboo every time i move an arm or turn my head. mmmm. i'm all soft, sweet, floral and greenery fresh. everyone i have encountered today has told me how good i smell and has asked what i'm wearing. i'm loving this scent big time and am so glad i scored this bottle on a whim. it's intriguing to me because it smells entirely different when i put nose to writst to sniff than when i'm just going about my business and catch a random whiff of my gorgeous scent. i'm gonna be moving around a lot today in order to catch this smell on the breeze!

When I first put this on I almost cried. I have wanted this scent for a long time and finally found a cheap partial bottle so was thrilled. But wet on my skin it smelled like a dirty, old sponge or stale, stagnant water and I was trying to remember the key notes in this and wonder what was going wonky on my skin or if the person i bought it from had added water to it to try to make it look like there was more in the bottle. My first thought was to wash it off 'cause i didn't want to smell like i was dirty all day. But then I thought i'd let it dry down 'cause BPAL so often morphs and changes as the oil dries and the day goes on...and it did. Once it dried I was left with a lovely, warm, sort of sweet but not foody sweet or florally sweet, more sexy, glistening skin sweet scent. Now i've had it on about 2-1/2 hours and it's warmed up even more. I'd say this is a nice scent for a summer night out in a slinky dress with some good drinks, good friends, and good music.

I'm not getting any old, cold empty feeling from this at all. To me and on me this is Dragon's blood and some resinous woods. Period. But mainly Dragon's Blood. A very warm, slightly sweet scent. I love it and find it comforting, warming and alluring, but not reminiscient of a castle or cold and forboding as described by others.

i need a bottle, this stuff works. in the bottle it smelled like a fresh green floral and that's what it initially smelled like on my skin as well. about an hour later it's a bit soapy smelling, but still a very nice, floral and fresh scent. we'll see how it morphs a bit later in the day. unfortunately i work in an office with only one other person, a guy, and this must be hell for him, lol. he's being sooooo sweet and kind and friendly today and is coming over by my desk a lot more than usual...even though we share a room and he's only about 15 feet away anyway. lol. my intent was to test this on him 'cause i figured if it worked on him it'd work on just about anyone. good stuff! not my favorite scent in the world, but it's nice...and it does what it's supposed to do so who can pass that up? ETA: after this has been on for a while it develops a sharp note i really like, something that kind of reminds me of deep in earth and zombi. mmm. also...this stuff doesn't only work on guys, it works on EVERYONE. people were gravitating toward me all day yesterday. even my little cousin who is usually a horribly behaved, biting, hitting, fit-throwing brat was sweet and kind and kept hugging me and hanging on me and telling me i smelled good and smiling at me and putting her head on my shoulder, etc... man, if this stuff can tame that beast, i NEED a bottle!

in the bottle: smells like orange or lemon oil, sweet not tart. there's some yummy spiciness to it, too. wet on skin: the same orange/lemony sweetness and spices. dries down to a sweet, musky, spicey, fruity luciousness. yumm. wasn't sure i'd like this at first 'cause i thought it might end up smelling like lemon furniture polish, but once it dries that sharp lemon/orange note fades and warm muskiness comes out. over all a nice, warm yet uplifting scent.

not one i would have tried on my own because it sounds too sweet, but i got an imp of it as an extra and ended up actually liking the scent. i don't think of it as sexual and debauched, though. it's light, refreshing, and a sweet, fruity, floral mix. a bit on the sweet side for me, but not too terribly sweet. the florals do a nice job of taking away from what would be an overpoweringly sweet fruit smell, they kind of temper and even out the scent. overall it's a warm, light, fresh, fruity floral scent i like for a sunny day.

I LOVE this scent, but then I am a floral lover. Only thing is, this doesn't remind me of New Orleans at all. I thought most of New Orleans smelled bad and the scents I remember most are Voodoo shop smells and moss and mildew smells. That said, this is a gorgeous scent. Very floral, very heavy, very warm. Perfect for a hot, humid day...which is exactly what today is...which is why I decided to wear this today and test it out. The Jasmine isn't really the main note here, but the hothouse blooms which can't be individually deciphered but are just a gorgeous, melodic blend. This one has me sniffing myself non-stop and several people have commented on how great I smell and have asked me what I'm wearing. I think I need a bottle of this to get me through the summer...makes a hot, humid day not so horrible. This scent reminds me more of Alabama, Georgia, etc... than New Orleans, though.

a soft, feminine aquatic. loving it. got a bottle of this on the forums having never smelled it before and i'm glad i took the risk 'cause it's gorgeous. in the bottle it smelled rather florally, very pretty and feminine. on my skin wet it smelled just like in the bottle. the glorious dry down is all aquatic, though. but the most gentle, soft, pretty aquatic i've ever encountered. one i'd like to take a long, hot bath in. i'm not getting any salt in this, just a lovely sort of sweet and calming oceanic scent with some very light floral breezes blowing over the waves. a cool summer evening on a tropical shore with your feet in the frothy waves. perfection!

Her scent is bewitching, almost intoxicating: a sensual incense of crushed mums, red ginger, and pulsing musk ... and the air is thick with leaden brown opium smoke that hangs thickly over a seductive mixture of red musk, body-warmed perfume, and hypnotic Eastern flowers. i am loving this one. wore it today and it's got long staying power, too...even after a nap snuggling with the kitties i can still smell it on my skin wet in the bottle: flowers, ginger and tantalizing opium smoke! wet on my skin: spicey, gingery flowers, opium smoke, and a bit o' sweetness once this dries it's a gorgeous mix of spicey, gingery flowers with cream and musky smoke. just a tiny hint of sweetness, probably from the cream, but the flowers, spiceyness and opium smoke help temper that and keep it from becoming a sweet scent. lovely!
