    The Isles of Demons

This wasn't as ominous smelling in the imp as the description would lead you to believe! No volcanic gas here! Just a green, musky smell. Almost like a less floral Dragon's Blood. Interesting. Gah. On my skin it is a sour smoky smell. Maybe that's the volcanic gas! Kind of a thick, smoky, green smell. Almost makes my eyes water a bit. Almost like being in an oppressive kind of humidity. It dries into something very meh though. Definitely not reminiscent of the image it is supposed to invoke. Sort of a smoky green floral dragon's blood type blend. Nothing special, and definitely not something I would want to wear.

Murky, aquatic floral in the imp. I do terribly with aquatics and I'm generally not one to gravitate towards such somber scents, so I'm not too optimistic about this blend... This smells much more herbal and way less floral on my skin that it did in the imp. This is best in it's drydown stage-I would catch whiffs of it from far away and find it a pleasant "gray" kind of herbal/floral (if that makes any sense). But if I got too close it was kind of a stinky mess. That's my test of whether I really like an oil or not-I should be able to nuzzle my nose to my skin and inhale deeply and still love the fragrance. On dry down this smells kind of like soot and rotten flowers. Or dirty sludgy water. Definite pass!

Innocent, soft and pure: sweet pea, carnation and water lily. Ok. I LOVE sweet pea and I LOVE carnation...but I HATE the way this smells in the imp. It's too salty and aquatic, which I'm guessing is the water lily. Hopefully that note will calm down on my skin and the notes I like will come to the surface. Nope. This is soooo aquatic on me. Darn! Stinky strong aquatic floral. Fail. Need to wash it off NOW!

    Wanda

This smells like merlot from the imp. While I love drinking me some merlot, I'm not sure I want to smell like it... Bleh. The leather really comes out strong on my skin. Leather really isn't my thing. I lose almost all of the other notes except the leather! Grr! Yep. Leather leather leather. A little bit of fruit (the wine) and a little bit of floral, but mostly leather. No go for me.

    The Lion

Spiced amber! Very nice! It reminds me a lot of the gingerbread poppet I put on this morning actually I have a feeling I will like this. Hahaha, this REALLY reminds me of gingerbread poppet without the sweetness and with more amber-somewhat dusky. The amber comes out stronger as it dries. It's a bit too dusky. Almost like a reallllly stale piece of gingerbread with a thick layer of dust over it. Blech. Sorry lion, back in your cage!

    Two, Five & Seven

Mmmm. This smells lovely in the imp. Fresh roses-soft and a little sweet. I WANT to like this, but unfortunately rose has a tendency to go sour on me. Yes-it goes a little weird on me. It's not terrible, but it just smells kind of funky and off. Curses! If it stayed as good as it smells in the imp this would be gorgeous. I'm going to give it some time to dry down. While it does smell better on full dry down and the sourness goes away...it's almost completely faded! Drat. No go for me.

    Jezebel

Biblical witch, priestess of Astarte, and general troublemaker. A true role model for today's upwardly mobile Modern Woman. A gloriously decadent blend of honey, roses, orange blossom and sandalwood. Oooof. Really strong and sweet in the imp. A mix of the honey and roses respectively. I'm really not sure how well this will work on me. I'm hit and miss with honey and rose notes, and anything -wood tends to amp like crazy on me. Hmm. This is actually better on my skin than I imagined. The orange blossom comes out on my skin and adds something very interesting to the blend. Nothing amps too much in this blend. The honey is quite strong, with hints of the other notes. Kind of like honeyed flowers over Baklava or something. Very decadent. This is another one of those bpal blends that I like a lot, think is very interesting and beautiful, but don't imagine I would ever wear it...it just doesn't seem like "me," but I'm going to put this on my maybe list. I think I prefer O as a honey blend, but this one works on my far better than I imagined it would! Yum!

    Nocturne

Mmm. Beautiful, dark, almost creamy violet scent in the imp. I love violet, so this is gorgeous. The lilac comes out a bit strong on my skin, which I'm hoping will calm down a bit, since I preferred that rich violet that I got from the imp. This dries down to something very pleasant. I don't LOVE it. It reminds me a lot of Lush's discontinued Gratuitous Violets soap which I enjoyed. Basically, I like this one and think it is a very nice deep violet scent, but I don't really think I need a full bottle of it.

    Dance of Death

Very earthy and woodsy in the imp. Wow, this one smells like paper or...actually what I imagine really dry dusty bones would smell like. I don't think i've ever sniffed anything that smelled so dry before. Very evocative! I wouldn't wear this, but I'm glad I tried it at least once, because it is one of those blends that really paints a picture in your mind. Very cool.

    Jazz Funeral

I don't like dirt scents, but I actually like the way this smells in the imp. Sweet and boozy with a little earthiness to darken it up. I don't think this will be a match for me but I'm intrigued nonetheless. Eh, no go. The dirt and flowers are too strong and sour for me. And for some reason on my skin there is some kind of weird citrus cleaner undertone. To the swaps you go! Edited to add: On full drydown this kinda smells like booze puke...blaugh

    Hymn to Proserpine

Hmm. I bat a fifty/fifty with amber. Sometimes it works really well for me, sometimes it's kind of a mess. This is...ok. Wet on my skin it's a bit heavier than I would have hoped. A little too incense-y and dark for my tastes. Almost like an evil version of juicy fruit gum...juicy fruit with roid rage or something. Then it just goes super powdery. Nope, not for me.

    Fae

This smells lovely in the imp. Light, airy, golden, and sweet! The only note that worries me a little is the oakmoss, but I didn't even notice it on first sniff. Of course, who knows what will happen when this hits my skin... Ok, wow, this is lovely! It's the perfect peach! Not too sweet or cloying, a little complex, earthy, sparkling...yum! This is a perfect spring and summer scent!

    Lampades

I'm so surprised I didn't have this on my wishlist, because it totally sounds up my alley! A cranberry blend? WOOT. And this smells very good in the imp. Sweet and fruity, but with an underlying smokiness and musk that adds depth. The only thing I am worried about is that my skin may amp the smokiness too much *fingers crossed for cranberry yummy goodness* Hm. This is like thisclose to being exactly how I want it. So darn close. It's just ok. Kind of meh. Dusty cranberry. Instead of crisp and inviting it feels very dull and forgettable and it seems to be fading superfast. Not bad, just definitely not bottle worthy for me.

    Rage

Hmm. I really have no idea what to expect with this. Some of the notes I like, some I don't like (rose geranium I'm looking at you). Of course, all I seem to smell in the imp is the rose geranium. Gah. Let's see how this plays out on my skin. Ok, it's better on the skin and improves as it dries, but still mostly just smells like dirt and rotten flowers to me. I get little whiffs of the Dragon's Blood and the amber and something kind of spicy, but honestly this is just kind of a mess to me. Not my thing at all. Glad I didn't fall in love with a discon. To the swappy swaps it goes.

    Monster Bait: Bloody Mary

I haven't had much luck with bpal's cherry so far, but I had to give this one a shot because it sounded so yummy! It's a bit medicinal in the bottle so I'm hoping that cough syrup smell dies down when this is on my skin. Hmm. Hmm. This definitely isn't bad. It's not as good as I would have hoped though. It is a bit artificial, and there is some dark kind of note running under this that is kind of throwing me off. It might be that "incense" smell that other people were commenting on. It smells good from far away, but up too close and it's kind of weird. I liked the other reviewer who compared this to Teenage Cannibal. They definitely seem like they would be sisters! I prefer Cannibal, but Mary is growing on me. It smells better and better on drydown. I'm not 100% sure I'm going to keep this, but I have the feeling I won't be able to part with it, especially when I start running low on Cannibal. Rich, creamy, naughty cherries!

    Hanami

Ahhh. I audibly sighed with pleasure when I took a big sniff of this out of the bottle. Lovely. Gorgeous. Soft pink fluttery floral. It makes me so nostalgic for the time I spent in Japan...you don't even want to get me started. It smells equally as beautiful on my skin. I mostly get the wisteria and sakura, not much of the ume. This is perfect. Love. LOVELOVELOVE.

    Bathsheba

I think this smells lovely in the imp. Sweet richly fruity carnation. Yum! On my skin I get little whiffs of something just a teensy bit "off" in this. It's like, it's almost perfect and gorgeous, but there's an underlying funkiness that is throwing me off. I think the problem for my nose is that the plum and carnation don't seem to go together right. It's kind of almost on the cusp of old lady-ish to my nose, but still sexy enough that I suppose it would be better to call it "mature" or "womanly". I liked the lab's plum note a lot though and will have to look for other blends that contain it. Overall, this blend is not for me. And it faded super duper fast! After only like 50 minutes it's pretty much gone completely!

    Frederic

Very woody (lol) and masculine in the bottle. Much more woody (lol) than I would have imagined! Hopefully the other notes will peek out through the wood (lol) when this is on my skin. Ok, this is WAY too masculine for me to wear. The wood (lol) is still very strong, but I can detect some amber musk and patchouli in there as well. I don't notice the tea rose or bay rum at all. Of course, I just remembered that I amp wood (lol) scents like CRAZY! Dur. Honestly, perfumes where wood(lol)/patchouli are the dominant notes aren't my bag, so this isn't really my thing. It's not unpleasant and there is nothing offputting about the blend at all, it's just not my preference. I am going to try this on my boyfriend and if that doesn't work, I will have to find a new home for poor Fred.

    Monster Bait: Tokyo Stomp

I love the label art for this one In the bottle this definitely smells like a thin mint cookie, but with a bit of sharpness to it that I find a teensy bit offputting. I'm not sure what the note is that's bugging me. It's almost something herbal(???), but I can't identify it. Hopefully it will be all yummy chocolatey minty goodness on my skin! Wow, yes, I definitely get the thin mint comparison when this is on my skin! That's exactly it! Ok, wow, yum! I was wondering how much different this was going to be from Lick It and if it was worth to have both, and I think it is! Delicious! ETA: This has become one of my favorite oils! It really smells like Thin Mint cookies-crisp and minty and sooo yummy! I've gotten lots of compliments on it!

    Herbert West

This is all lemon and aftershave in the imp. A bit cologne-y, I have the feeling this would be better on my boyfriend than on me, but I have to try everything at least once! I lose a bit of the lemon once this hits my skin, but it's a very pleasant slightly citrus aftershave kind of scent. Clean and fresh! Definitely taking this to test out on my boyfriend! I can't wait to smell this on him! Edited to add: Tried this on the bf and it was wonderful! Clean fresh citrus aftershave. I bought him a bottle

    Satyr

Based on other reviews, I don't think this will be up my alley, but I actually think it smells quite good in the imp. Rich and clove-y and spicy. Not so sure about the musk though... Mmm! Actually this is pretty nice on my skin! The musk isn't overpowering at all! Cinnamon and clove! Yum! Sexy! This is too masculine for my tastes for me to wear, but I am going to hold onto this imp and try it out on my boyfriend! :D

    Bien Loin D'Ici

This is more...floral than I expected in the imp. Kind of like a floral Smut. I have the feeling this will be too musky for my taste, but I gotta give it a shot! OOf, wet on my skin something goes way floral and funky on me. I don't get caramel or honey from this at all! Just very strong musk and even stronger floral. Weird! This isn't what I expected at ALL. Ok, time to wash this off. Total fail on me!

    O

OOf, in the imp this is very sweet honey and amber. It does have a sort of "sex" kind of smell about it, which I'm not sure I find entirely appealing in a perfume. This is almost straight honey on my skin. A leetle bit of amber and a leetle bit of vanilla. You know, when I first sniffed this decant months ago I didn't like it at all, but I find that I'm actually enjoying it more than I thought I would. There is something very sexual about it, almost a little too sexual, but at the same time something innocently sweet about it...interesting! Ok. Yes. I am sold. It mellowed beautifully on my skin. This is a wonderful honey blend. I will have to add this to my ever growing list of bottles I need. I can't stop sniffing my hand!!!

    Snake Oil

This is a decant I received from someone that I have let age even longer, since I hear that is how best to enjoy this oil. Mmmm, in the imp this is both spicy and sweet and sexy. The aging seems to have made it very thick. Hmm. I think I like this. I'm just not sure I love it. This is going to sound bizarre, but there's sort of a woody undertone to this that is putting me off...I have no clue what is up with my nose...how am I getting wood in this blend? Booo. No. This definitely isn't for me, especially on full drydown. I think I would like it better if it was sweeter. I barely get the vanilla in there at all. Just that woody smell (maybe incense??) and spices *pout* I wanted to love this! I think I am going to just keep holding on to my imp and see how I like it in a few more months.
