Lit Chick

I first put this on my husband, as he really needs a scent other than "kitchen". I was immediately put off, and confused at having such an immediately bad reaction. It didn't smell bad at all - it just made me feel wrong. Later, I tried it on myself. Same strange reaction - and this time I knew why. Wilde is a dead-ringer for whatever cologne DH's buddy wears. Too much association - I don't want my hubby to smell like another man! It's a very overtly sexy-stud kind of smell - a cologne for a guy on the prowl. It is much nicer than it's department store doppleganer, so I'll be passing my imp along to our friend.

WHOOOO! I have my first keeper, and not only is it good, it's OMFG good! Lady of Shallot is perfection on me. I'm very, very pleased. Red_Hot_Mama, thanks so much - Andra was extremely nice!

Yet another BPAL that went powdery, but in a nice way... heavy and sexy powder. Because the scent is so thick on me, it is not one I would wear regularly - it works, but it's not how I want others to smell me. BUT - for winter days when I plan on being alone with a good book, or some classic films, this will be my aroma. I am starting to see the utter genius of BPAL - the scent conjures exactly what it should - the desire to be told a story.

Oh, heaven. My first BPAL oils all went soapy or powdery... and this lovely, lovely lady did not. I smell gorgeous. When wet, I also noticed a fruitiness. Not over-ripe fruit, but a fresh, crisp scent - reminiscent of apple or pear. I think that must be the muguet. The crispness fades with the sweetness, and the drydown is gently fresh. Today is a miserable, rainy winter day. Everything is iced over, but there is no sun to make it sparkle. Slush and dreariness. But with this scent on, I can see the secret beauty of it. I am enjoying the delicate chill of the air, the contrast of wet branches on grey sky, and how everything is hushed... My first big bottle will be this Lady.

Thanks, diabolique & hypothermya!! I'm holding on to most of my imps - but hehe - two have already been asked for! They were the 2 that would not have been tried again, so yay! And I'll have 2 more (very different) little vials to try. The rest of my current imps will wait - I'm hoping to love them. And even if they always stay the same, sometimes I want to be soapy! (Catherine would probably be very refreshing on me in summer). I've started my little speadsheet of BPAL notes... I'm sure I'll find something that's perfection. I'm willing to wait for it. I have 1 pending lab shipment of impies, and have been watching the Swaps and Ebay - but I think I might go for another 12 direct. How will I ever choose?

Ah, crap. So, chemistry is terribly individual, notes can act differently from one blend to another, and just when you think you have it figured out - your chemistry can change again. Guess I'll have to try lots and lots of imps.

I do plan to try the imps again, and fingers are crossed. However, this is not a BPAL-only issue. Traditional perfumes go nuts on me as well. I think I pull out the sweetest notes - so they have to be light to be OK, or grounded by something deep. I have found the reviews very helpful. That's why I was so sad with Dublin - most people had a foresty experience. The rose took over on me (and here I thought I could wear rose!) I think I will stay away from Lotus... far, far away. My current perfumes are: J'adoretop- mandarin and ivy leaves, champaca flower, jasmine mid - orchids, roses, and violets base- plum, amaranth, blackberry musk Organza Indecence top - spices mid - jacaranda wood, patchouli base - vanilla, amber, musk I like both perfumes - primarily because they stay nice on me. Really, the only smells I don't care for are powder, sugar-sweet, and flat-out musk. I'd love feminine forest smells, a light floral, a sexy floral, something spicy, something creamy. I'm off to do some digging!

Hello all. I just got my first BPAL imps, and they all went wonky on me: Old Dublin turned into sweet powdery rose. No forest at all. Catherine and Twilight went soapy Old Paris was sickly sweet Dana O'Shee was bakery sweet, then baby-powdery (in a nice way, but still). For those that have similarly troublesome body chemistry - what works on you? Bascially, what smells like it should, instead of warping into a one-note terror? Thanks in advance!

I'm wearing this right now! My skin tends to pull out the sweetenss of scents and make them powdery. This is no execption. Wet - Extremely sweet, but in a very nice way. Almond, honey, milk. DH says I smell like almond cakes. Drydown - Here comes the powder. It's still sweet, but very softened, with a very faint whif of white pepper way in the background. Full dry - all I can smell is powder, but it's still nice. I usually hate powdery! I find this smell very familiar - it's the memory of my Cabbage Patch Premie doll, which I adored. It's a snuggly, comforting scent. It's one powder that I can do. I'll use my imp on days when I want a hug. ETA - this has staying power for me - 8 hours later and I'm still lightly powdered. Impressive.

Again, I have some really odd body chemistry. This went instantly soapy on me. Not girly soap, either. Dial/Safeguard/ etc. As it dried, there was an undertone of chewed fingernails. (I'm a recovering nail-biter - Ick.) Siiighhhh.

Hmmm.... Very, very odd. I may have to try it again, as I reacted VERY differently to this one. Wet - Heavy, heavy musk, with a bitter edge (the lavender?) On me, it smells like ultra-cheap drugstore musk. It's wretched. I almost washed it off. Drydown - WTF? It's going powdery. I have strange skin. Fully dry - On my god - it smells exactly like my Great Aunt's guest bathroom. It took me a while to figure out why - it's gone soapy on me. Not bad - her guest bathroom had a variety of expensive and pretty soaps, all sorts of smells. It brought back childhood memories. It's not a good perfume on me - it was fun to experience the morphing of the fragrance, though. The memories that came with it were amazingly vivid. I might hold onto it, just for that.

Wet - SWEET! Very, very sweet. But there's no powder, which is good. I have skin that powders most everything. It smells like the Mulberry potpourri I used to make candles with one Xmas. I do not smell the lavender at all. Drydown - Powder, please come and save me. The sweetness did not calm at all - it got more intense. There's a backgound of spice that's nice, but it's not enough. It's very potpourri. ICKY! It would be a lovely scent on someone else - I think I'll pass my imp onto a freind.

This is my very first review! I was so excited to get this. Besides loving the smells of damp forest, I met my husband in Ireland. Wet - Instant powder. There's a nice note of pine in the back, though. Hello, pine. Initial dry - Where did the forest go? The powder is fading, and there's the rose... Full dry. ACK! Rose, back off! Overpowering rose, and the powder came back. I smell old. I might try an imp of "New" Dublin.... maybe that would work. I so want to have this smell nice on me!
