Wow. Wow. Wow. Ok, I had to sit down and collect myself after I smelled this and put it on for the first time. I bought this knowing I would not like it. I very much dislike patchouli and haven't been able to even stand smelling it on someone else. It sometimes triggers migraines but also makes me feel a bit nauseous. But... I was curious. In the decant it's a smoky, woody, slightly sweet resin to me. As it dries the patchouli and sandalwood are most apparent with the wood, spikenard and sugandh kokila in the background. But, BUT! It's a patchouli that I can stand, ok, yes I've had a migraine the past two days that I've been wearing it but it was gearing up before I even opened the imp. There is a hint of tobacco and a sweetness that must be the vanilla orchid but it's so light it is the perfect wisp of sweetness that really compliments the woody-earthiness combination of the other notes I'm detecting. After a few hours it's a warm, woody, slightly musky, spicy smell but, surprisingly, it fades rather quickly. I am in shock over how much I am loving this scent.

On wet I definitely get hay and acorns, really strongly. As it dries it becomes more rice milk, almond blossom and corn stalks. To me it smells of a sweet, warm breakfast. I didn't think I'd like it but I love it. It's a warm comforting smell that reminds me of summer in the countryside. Though it reminds me of summer smells I think it'll be a fall scent for me - yay! It'll be the perfectly warm and sunny antidote to dreary, wet winters!

On wet and in the imp it's a sort of delicate citrus. As it dries it is petitgrain, grapefruit and mandarin, no copal, amber or mimosa for my sniffer. It's a nice smell but I was really hoping for lots and lots of mimosa. I don't think this is my kind of scent

I was SO excited to try this. Some of the notes don't usually work for me but I was hoping the carnation, musk and tangerine would do something magical. In the imp I get a sort of vague floral. On wet I get the tangerine... mouthwatering tangerine backed by rose, carnation, jasmine and a touch of lily. When it dries... jasmine. All jasmine. This is a blend in which jasmine is being her bossy self and doesn't let any other notes come out. Dang it. I hate when this happens!

I think this is probably an aged imp - old logo on the label. Again, I keep ordering jasmine scents even though I'm scared of it - it sometimes goes really wrong. However! This is an absolutely beautiful smell. Delicate and lovely. I definitely get the jasmine, primrose and musk and possibly the other florals but no spices. The jasmine is behaving again - or maybe it's that my body chemistry is changing as the birthdays tick away. It is so light though that I have to really put my nose to where I've slathered it on and sniff really hard to get the scent. But I keep sniffing. I wish this was a bit stronger. I will probably use this imp up very, very slowly considering it's discontinued.

In the imp it's sweetness, fruity, lightly floral sweetness. This makes me skeptical... fruit and jasmine can go really bad, really fast. On wet it's jasmine and white musk with a bit of plum. I'm sure the orchid and daffodil are there but I can't detect them. Somehow, the jasmine is there but is being kept in it's place by the musk and plum. As it dries it's a bit more plummy (which I'm learning is a good note for me!) with jasmine and musk a bit subdued. It's lovely, yummy, sweet and ... fun. I like it a heck of a lot but I'll see how quickly I get through the imp before I purchase either a bottle or second imp.

In the imp I get sharp woods... very nice. On wet it smells very woody, warm, red-chocolately wood (if that makes sense, it just smells kind of 'red' to me). As it dries it turns sharper like freshly cut green wood with the acorns, leaves and bark very clear and just a veil of the lunar oils. It's a beee-yoo-tiful scent but I prefer the wet phase more than the dry phase. Will have to give it another go and try it on the hubbo, too. It might work quite well with his chemistry though he's in a real P.lunder stage at the moment so, we'll see.

In the imp it's luscious plum, musk and sweet florals. Though I'm skeptical as tuberose, calla lily and heliotrope have not worked on me in other blends. On wet it's amazingly lush, ripe, bursting, juicy plum and red musk with the sweet florals and incense just peeking through. Amazing throw. I am in love! This may well become my 'go to' scent when I want to feel confident, sexy and damn good. Then… poof! it dries and pretty much disappears. If I get my nose really close I get plum, musk and a teeny bit of incense, florals have gone, but it's just a wisp of scent. Well, I love it so much that I think I'll probably get through this imp pretty darn quickly. Guess it's a big bottle purchase then!

Lovely - in the imp, subtle spice and rose… On wet I get a really beautiful rose note (it doesn't give me a headache!!) mixed with what smells like light saffron and black pepper to me. Really, really gorgeous. I feel like I should be wearing one of those huge, tafetta, grey Victorian dresses with matching headgear! This was an excellent whim buy! I love it! This is pretty much my idea of the perfect rose scent.

Interesting. Whomever created this is a spreadsheet wizard! Although, according to this I'm all over the place, too. Which is great because I'll be trying some scents I would have never even looked at before - yahoo!

ITI it is all almond. The bitter almond, to me, is preferable to sweet almond. It's like evil marzipan! On wet, it's still very almond-y but as it dries the delicate sweetness of persimmon appears and is rounded up by the warm, golden musk. I imagine the gingkos are there somewhere, perhaps mixing it up with the persimmon and musk, but I've never smelled them singularly before so wouldn't be able to tell. It's nice and comforting but it's just a bit 'meh' for me. A decant is just enough.

On wet I smell apple and sweet, delicate florals but with a brightness (sparkliness) I assume is brought about by the bergamot. As it dries the vanilla is just detectable with the musks just appearing on the periphery. After a few hours the musks and vanilla are front and centre wtih the apple backing them up. This is a lovely, sweet (but not in a cloying way), light scent and a wonderful whim purchase as usually the Lab's apple notes don't work on me. It remains close to the skin, lasting several hours but fades by the end of the day. I will definitely use up the decant and if I could get my hands on a bottle I would wear this often!

Frimp I received ... gosh, I can't even remember when, probably mid or early 2011. I never tried it because I over did it with champaca when I was 18/19 so was hesitant. Finally got the nerve to test it. ITI(thanks mymymai!) it was mainly sandalwood with the light sweetness of orange blossom. On wet, the orange blossom really comes out and the champaca and sandalwood linger behind it. Dry, all notes are so well blended. The sandalwood goes slightly powdery but not at all in a bad way. The phrase that came to mind when I sniffed my arm after a few hours was delicate but strong. It smelled to me what I imagine a very beautiful but very fragile piece of crystal feels like in one's hand (I touch nothing fragile because I'm cack-handed). Each note was there in equal measure and all so beautiful together. Moderate throw and it lasted a while for me, I can still smell it on the jumper I wore that day. Overall, it's a really beautiful scent and... I'm excited to say... may well open up avenues for scents I'd written off due to champaca!

I have a sinking feeling that gardenia just doesn't like me. I used to love gardenia scents when I was in my early 20's and Lady of Shallot sounded perfect with her gardenias, musk, watery notes, ginger... I should have loved her. Alas... no. Gardenia seems to overpower everything when it is part of a blend and is on my skin. It is a very 'old fashioned' floral scent to me, antebellum aunties is what comes to mind. It sometimes triggers migraines with me and then *poof*! Turns to powder. It just wasn't meant to be... sigh.

Ahhh... it never crossed my mind that it might be a component issue - thank you! If Kathy can enlighten further would be great, but thank you - I can stop searching...

Ok, this is probably not the right place to ask but I cannot find a more appropriate thread for this question: When a GC scent says 'sold out' under the description (rather than links to purchase) but it remains on the site, I'm assuming that it means it's not discontinued... but does that mean it will one day come back? For instance, The L.ittle S.parrow. Usually, if a scent is discontinued it is removed from the site... right? I did email customer service months ago but it's not an urgent query so no answer is not surprising - I'm just curious. Anyone know what this means? Sorry if I've missed some post on this or explanation on the site but I have trawled for months trying to find something on it. If this isn't the right place, I beg pardon and please direct me to the right thread! Thanks!!

Alice has become a real suprise favourite! I've been meaning to order an imp of her for ages... just never got around to it. I admit, I was a little worried she would be too innocent and soft for me. Anyway, I ordered her and I'm so glad. In the imp and on wet it smells very much of ginerbread spice to me. Really comforting, warm and snuggly. It makes me want to get under my big, fluffy duvet and read my favourite book while the rest of the world goes by. As it dries the rose comes out and the sweetness abates just a little but the carnation and bergamot are still very much present. The only thing I would change, if I could, would be it's throw and lasting power. Hardly any throw and seems to disappear after a few hours. I've been wearing Alice non-stop since I received her and nothing feels better than when I'm having a grumpy day and a get a whiff of that spicy comfort to remind me that when the world feels pretty crappy, at least I smell good...

Another great frimp that I would not have picked out myself! In the imp it was sweet and meaty... like the crusty bit on the outside of a slow roasted ham. Yum. On my skin it was sweet, meaty, bready with some berries thrown in, so either it's berry kvass or berry wine. Either way, it's a really great scent. It didn't morph at all. I'm not a foody scent kind of girl but this is good. Not sure how often I'll wear it but I definitely like it!

This is the strangest and most intriguing scent I've tried so far. It was a frimp, very exciting as would have never picked this one out myself. In the imp it was watermelon hubba bubba. I was very scared thinking, 'I don't want to smell like high school bubble gum all day'... what the heck! On wet it became a woody watermelon, not a bad smell but still very strange. Dry it turned to a tart, tangy woody scent with the watermelon dying down a bit and the teeniest hint of gardenia. Very, very strange but somehow I REALLY like it. But not sure whether I would use a whole bottle...

Frimp from the Lab - wheeee, I love trying the conjure bag oils! I was very hesitant when I smelled the imp. First sniff it was either vetiver or patchouli, sometimes my nose gets them confused (don't ask). Either way, it wasn't a positive kind of sniff for me. I was about to go to bed so thought what the heck, I can always keep my wrists under the blankets if I don't like it. PEANUT BUTTER?!? Yes, on wet it was lovely, creamy peanut butter. I had no idea I would ever like to smell like one of my favourite treats, but oh yes, I do. Drydown (just before I drifted off) it morphed into a lovely creamy, slightly smokey jasmine with just a hint of sugar cookie dough (the vanilla perhaps?). Usually, jasmine is too sweet for me, but this jasmine is lovely and mixed with the dough, or almost even clay-ey smell, it is perfect. I love this. As far as it's voodoo effectiveness... it did feel like one of my course mates was leaning on me a lot through this morning's lecture. However, I'm inclined to think it was because he was falling asleep through boredom rather than my air of attraction. All the rest of the guys (I'm only one of three girls on my course) totally ignored me. But yes, this goes on the big bottle list.

This is gorgeous. In the imp I smell sweet rose... On wet it stays the same. It's not like other rose scents but a light, soft, pink, almost white rose (though in reality they probably don't smell like this, not been around a fresh rose in ages). It's a very bright scent. It reminds me of something I used to love in childhood but cannot remember if it was a perfume of my mom's or someone else's. Drydown, the sweet rose remains but it softens even more and I think I smell white musk and I get really strong linden too. Linden is one of my favourite scents in the natural world. As far as it's voodoo power... my husband sniffed my wrist and said 'eh, it's ok' and turned back to the rugby. I think it would take more than voodoo to re-ignite our sex life anyway but that's for a different kind of post. As for the scent, it's absolutely amazing. I love this, definitely getting a big bottle with my next order.

Glasgow was sent to me by mistake (I'd ordered M.oscow) but it was on my wishlist anyway as Glasgow is my most favourite city in the UK. I was a little skeptical as to me Glasgow should be a Charles Rennie McIntosh building in a bottle, particularly, the Glasgow School of Art building... drool. So, should include blackberry and heather but also thistle, red brick, slimy moss, grey rain, wet dirt, etc. Anyway architecture geeking over... I wore this on a cold and rainy day in Bristol to profile a small brook (basically profiling just means falling into the river and sliding in the mud at least a dozen times while trying to take precise measurements) thinking 'well, at least I can pretend I'm in Glasgow'. In the imp I got a vague sweetness. On my skin... it was akin to a high street sweet floral... or as Maleficium says above, kind of like potpurri. It did have amazing throw, everyone on the excursion told me I smelled sweet - even after sliding down the bank into the freezing water - and lasted all day despite the water adventures. It just doesn't go with my skin chemistry. You win some, you lose some.

Frimp from the lab - woohoo, been wanting to try something from Steamworks for some time!! In the imp I smelled only cedar. As soon as it touched my skin it turned straight to lemon. There was a sweet woody smell behind the lemon but the lemon was too overpowering. Drydown the citrus moves right to the back and it begins to smell a bit resinous with the sweet woody smell being able to come to the front. It didn't last long and didn't have much throw. It's a nice scent but doesn't 'wow' me. Editing to say... er... three months later, I don't know if it was my state of mind or the scent just needed a few months to unfold but, I can't stop wearing this. The lemon doesn't dominate on application anymore and overall it is still woody, slightly sweet and warm... kind of dusty in a warm afternoon kind of way. The amber is the more dominant note now and backed by the wood and slight citrusy smell I get now, it's GOOD. I might even buy a 5ml. I just wish it lasted a bit longer and had better throw. No one's perfect though.

Reading other posts, I, too, share the vetiver experience! In the imp it is full on vetiver, nothing else. I have a love-hate relationship with vetiver. On wet, it's still vetiver but the amber does come through a little. At first, I thought I was losing my mind and had too many pink ladies last night but seriously, this smelled just like Atlas on me, just a bit more smoky and bitter. After some research, khus is a wild Indian variety of vetiver! Aha! Drydown, it fades, the vetiver is still top dog but it is sweetened just a touch by the tonka. Overall, I prefer Atlas with the sweeter mallow and wood feel. Prurience is just too much vetiver for me.

I was so looking forward to this one. It innocently smelled of mint and a slight bitterness in the imp but the second it hit my skin, oh dear. It was burned rubber and insect repellent. I'm afraid I didn't make it past that stage as it was making me feel a bit ill. It had to come off. Boo. Hoo.
