I've wanted to try this scent for ages and I'm so glad I finally swapped for a decant! Leather, coffee, hazelnut, and tobacco are favorite notes of mine, and they all shine here, equally balanced. Like curling up in a leather armchair with your hazelnut latte, this is a warm, inviting blend. I can't pinpoint what the "Arabian spices" are, maybe a hint of cinnamon. A unisex blend that smells great on my husband as well.

At first this is Jolly Rancher apple flavor, but then the birch appears and somehow causes the sweetness of the apples to quickly fade. In the long run, this is birchwood and very tart apples. Some have drawn comparisons with Hesperides, but on me, birch and oak are very different. Oak's comforting while this birch has something cold and stern about it. This blend makes me think of an imposing warrior queen more than a goddess of love, but to each their own of course.

Clean and light and refreshing. Gives you that "just hopped out of the shower, ready to go!" energized feeling. Green tea is always a clean, crisp note, and it blends nicely with the sweet apple blossom. In the same family as other invigorating tea blends like Shanghai and The Dormouse. I think I prefer Shanghai by a hair, but this is great, too.

Wow, everyone's getting something different from this one. On me, it's nutmeg and vanilla, with a little bit of herbal chamomile, mixed with a soapy Indian incense. Like all those HEM incense packs they sell at gas stations, there's like 20 different varieties but they're all kinda soapy. I'd say it's like that, more than straight up Nag Champa. The floral champaca is there, but there's also a definite old lady soapiness. Which makes it sound like I hate it, but I actually don't. The nutmeg mixed with the incense somehow grabs my interest and keeps me coming back for another sniff, and I feel like I like it more every time I sniff! Wouldn't get a bottle but I won't swap my decant, either.

Overpowering vetiver, we meet again! I used to love vetiver when it played nicely, but I guess my skin chemistry's changed, and now it just amps like crazy. It's the dirty, earthy undertone here to apricot and patchouli. Like if you took Depraved and layered it with single note vetiver. I will pass this decant to my husband, the Depraved lover and vetiver fan in the family.

Heavily mandarin orange on me. Passionfruit's hanging out in the background. No rose at all. Labdanum and amber musk? Maybe a little. Sweet and warm. Mostly mandarin. I like mandarin all right, but since this is basically mandarin single note on me, I'd pass on a bottle.

At first application, a fruit, happy scent. I immediately think of kids' cereals - Captain Crunch, Froot Loops! There's definitely a cereal-esque, grainy note -- probably the rice cakes. Gosh, these fruits are lovely! I can't say I've ever smelled lychee, pomelo, or kumquat, but the tangerine and orange are definitely recognizable. The plum blossom adds depth and complexity by bringing in a floral loveliness, so it's not just a foody blend. Good old lemony peony (peony's always lemony on me, is it like that for everyone?) does the same. Now I can't say I notice any dragon's blood at all. That's a note I can definitely pick out and I'm just not finding it here. But that's okay. I love this cheerful scent. It's a perfect New Year scent because it makes me think of happy new beginnings!

The Sunlight and the Moonlight Fall from Thee
tinyvulture replied to GoldenRubee's topic in Lupercalia
What a unique, evocative blend. Sweet, pretty florals are the base and then the black pepper is the star. The result is hippie/boho/witchy, herbal and spicy. I love the interplay of the pepper and floral notes. Makes me think of being out in a forest at night even though there's nothing woodsy about it! Just that spooky/mysterious/beautiful feeling. -
Roses and red musk and...Sen-Sen candies?! Rememeber those tiny licorice tiles? I wish I still had my decant of Sic Erit for comparison, because I wrote that it also smelled like Sen-Sen and red musk is the only shared note that I see. It must be the red musk's interaction with other notes that is giving off a black licorice vibe. Anyway, this is a blend that really screams "Lupers" for me...romantic, sexy. Warm rose and flirtatious red musk and it is a bit sweet/syrupy as someone mentioned upthread. Don't think I need a bottle, but glad to have the decant.

At first application, a gentle blend of rose and vetiver. Like a much softer version of The Sick Rose. After a couple minutes, it's not so distinctly rose. In fact nothing is very distinct at this point. This scent fades quicky. Faint florals and warm earthiness (vetiver/oak leaf). I love mahogany, but not finding it here. If you like soft, close-to-the-skin blends, check this out. Too mild for me.

Kneel Down, Fair Love, and Fill Thyself with Tears
tinyvulture replied to GoldenRubee's topic in Lupercalia
A soft floral...sorry, that's all I've got for this one. I really need a single note orris so I can identify it properly. Same for magnolia. This blend is dry, powdery, makes me think of white flowers. There's something earthy, maybe the grey musk. Soft as a sigh, like the description says. Nice but not my kind of floral. -
My favorite BPAL scent name ever and also one of the most unique blends. In spite of vanilla orchid being the first note listed, I have a hard time picking it out, and I wouldn't call this a floral blend. I agree with other reviewers who said it's like being in a coffee house with Nag Champa incense burning. Or browsing an incense shop while sipping on a hot vanilla latte. Relaxing indoor activities on a cold day, cozy and familiar. I love incense blends, so Destructive Vagina is the right vagina for me.

Queen Venus with a Hood Striped Gold and Black
tinyvulture replied to Lycanthrope's topic in Lupercalia
A deep orange oil...not a bad note in the bunch...what will it smell like? It's a light, soft rose. In comparison, The Sick Rose is a much bolder, deeper rose note. Queen Venus' rose mingles gently with glowing warm amber, musk, and delicate resins. A subtle blend that stays close to the skin, yet it's a thing of beauty. -
When I sniffed this in the bottle, it was all ylang ylang. When applied to my skin, it's much more balanced, with the fig milk and vanilla having a strong presence...the orchids less so, but every now and then I get a whiff of them. A very foody floral, spicy and candy-sweet. Boho/exotic and super girly at the same time.

I've always associated red musk with sexy, feminine perfumes, but Anteros is like a red musk cologne that I must have my husband try on. Earthy patchouli is the second-most dominant note. I could swear I also detect leather, but I guess it's just the way this particular patchouli smells. The red musk and patchouli are so strong that I don't notice any bergamot, currant, or saffron. Maybe a little vanilla -- there is definitely a sweetness. It's a bold scent with staying power -- a masculine version of Smut, maybe? And I'll have to dig out my old decant of Crowley for comparison, because they sound similar as well.

Super sweet apple peel - think of a Honeycrisp - with oak and dirt. Reminiscent of All Hallow's Apple but much sweeter. While AHA was like picking fresh apples out at the orchard, Thrice Toss is more like cooking apples in your kitchen with the window open, the scent of trees and earth wafting in from outside. It's more sweet and homey. Also similar to Hesperides. Can't pinpoint the cypress and briar notes. Over time, the dirt note fades, and the remaining apples and woods make it a cozy, autumn-appropriate blend.

I love florals with cream, and sugared florals, and I'm also obsessed with cherry blossoms at the moment. So there was no doubt I'd love Reflected Vulva. Sweet pea and cherry blossom are present in equal amounts, and they're perfectly blended with sweet vanilla cream and a touch of coconut. So pretty and feminine. Did you like Love's Philosophy? Try this. My favorite of this year's Luper/Shungas update, hands down.

I didn't know what rosin is. It's pine resin, so it makes sense that this is a woodsy, resinous, sweet, slightly powdery blend. I agree with other reviewers that there's a ton of warm musk as well. For some reason, this blend reminds me of several different things: cola and tanning lotion and a yoga studio. I wouldn't say it's super-masculine, but rather a blend that would appeal to anyone who loves resins.

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!
tinyvulture replied to Ella LaRose's topic in Recommendations
Based on #1, 4 and 5 (haven't tried the others), I'd recommend Eat Me (I love foody scents and don't care for it, but still, it's really popular), Tamora, Bread-and-Butterfly, and Huesos de Santo. -

Based on Channukiyah and Gomorrah, I'd recommend Knave of Hearts, Hanging Gardens, and maybe Sugar Moon. -

I'm getting lots of great suggestions from this thread! I'd love some assistance with floral blends in particular. My top 5 are: Butterflies, Flowers and Jewels Attending Juliet Let Revenant Jingu Chuparosa -
I'm getting a combination of sweet, spicy cooking scents (clove, vanilla, saffron), with a background of herbal (sage, and I guess pimento berry?) and myrrh notes. So it's foody, but without smelling like any specific food. No ginger or patchouli to be found. I like it okay, but I'm missing the patchouli.

A STRONG, earthy, sexy, hippie patchouli scent that amps like crazy on both my husband and myself. So of course I love it. The lush, thick honey note snuggles right up to the patchouli and it's a match made in heaven. Beautiful amber adds warmth and sweetness. Immediately in my top 10.

A rich, heady rose blend. A red rose at the height of its bloom...you just want to bury your nose in it, revel in it, never come up for air. The supporting notes are ruby pomegranate and warm, sweet amber (and to a lesser extent, sweet frankincense), so overall it's very warm and sweet and inviting, without being cloying. I received an empty sniffie bottle and I'll be on the lookout for decants to store in it (and slather on myself).
