From Tarot Oils I’m not sure what got this into my head, but I expected this to be something like China Rain. It isn’t at all. Unlike the other Ace oils, this one is less scented like the element itself IMO, but more like what the element represents. This perfume is all love and pleasure, dreaminess and hope. It is a rich and soft floral but dark and mysterious too.

Single Note This perfume is simply identical to a true carnation flower. Just enough floral, just enough spice.

From Tarot Oils Roses, roses, roses! Not the freshly cut wet rose of their Rose Red, nor the dry, Victorian rose of their Old London. This is a bundle of mixed roses of every shape, size and color. There is something regal and haughty under the roses... sandalwood, perhaps? Or a dry musk? Lovely and bountiful. The scent of a benevolent, beautiful young queen. I love this perfume!

From Tarot Oils Wheel of Fortune was nothing like what I expected. Somewhere in my head I thought it would remind me of Atlantic City. Hahaha! Rather, it’s the scent that I imagine Destiny of Neil Gaiman’s Endless would be scented. It’s a deep scent, and it seems like dark woods, mellow fruits and the dustiness of dried herbs. This scent is very hard to describe. It makes me feel somber and contemplative. I enjoy this perfume immensely.

From Tarot Oils I had been getting the Tower in many of my readings lately, and since I’m the kind of woman that likes to confront issues head on and resolve them I purchased the Tower so that I could better understand this period in my life. If destruction and upheaval has a scent, this is it. Fiery, crumbling, sharp, spicy, hot, dark. These are all the words that run through my head as I sniff it. Even the color of the oil is a molten black-red. It is immediately a shock to the senses, jarring.

From Sin & Salvation A boisterous, belligerent, festive blend that lends to mad revelry, overindulgence and excess. Perfect for a weekend bender. Earthy musks combined with a beastial civet bouquet, a hint of sweet grape and orange blossom. True to the description, this scent is perfect for wearing to a party or a night at a dance club when you're just out to have a debauched good time. This is a very husky, feral scent. The grape isn't light, as in white grapes or a light wine, but rather huge, ripe juicy black and red grapes crushed into a dark, thick musk. Very much the scent that Dionysus himself would wear!

From Bewitching Brews Deceptively gentle and lethally alluring. Jasmine and rose, touched with sparkling heliotrope. Again, so hard to describe! I can see why this scent is named after a will o'wisp. I love the scent of true jasmine, but have rarely found a perfume containing jasmine that I really enjoy, as they often seem too thick and syrupy for me. This is an exception. The heliotrope really makes the scent sparkle, and it is both a soft and bright floral at the same time.

Have you tried using one of the carrier oils? I cannot wear any of the cinnamon scents without mixing it with some of Beth's jojoba first and my mother just plain likes to dilute everything. -

I think Tygher is right. The amber will give a very apothecaryish feel to the potions!

Which scent fits this poem - Baudelaire's "Even When She Walks"
viciousviolet posted a topic in Recommendations
There is a Baudelaire poem that I love that I found on the BPAL LiveJournal community a while ago. I had never read it before, and I found it so beautiful and moving. Even when she walks she seems to dance! Her garments writhe and glisten like long snakes obedient to the rhythm of the wands by which a fakir wakens them to grace. Like both the desert and the desert sky insensible to human suffering, and like the ocean's endless labyrinth she shows her body with indifference. Precious minerals are her polished eyes, and in her strange symbolic nature angel and sphinx unite, where diamonds, gold, and steel dissolve into one light, shining forever, useless as a star, the sterile woman's icy majesty. Which BPAL perfume do you think fits this scent? I think that the Black Phoenix perfumes really do a perfect job of capturing feelings and personas (Arrrr, matey! I feel like a pirate every time I touch Anne Bonny!), and this poem conveys something I want to feel in a scent. Does anyone have any suggestions? -

I had a horrendous problem with customs recently, Speedqueen. I'd bet the rent that it's them. -

Autumn Scents - recommend the ones you love
viciousviolet replied to any_old_actress's topic in Recommendations
I haven't received my Imp of it yet so I'm not positive that this is true but I do think Scarecrow sounds like it will be very autumn-ee. -
Though they seem to have the same ingredients, the two smell nothing alike. If you don't like rose scents, you'll hate Black Rose.

A strange, but very pleasing scent. The resin of the dragon’s blood is not very pronounced, and while I usually find it to be a sweet scent, the florals in Dragon’s Eye sharpen the perfume. It is very multi-faceted and lovely. The gentlest and most elegant of the Dragon’s Blood mixes that I’ve used but still forceful and sexy.

Pure chocolate. Pure, milky, sweet, rich, evil, evil chocolate! I usually don’t enjoy foody scents, but Bliss has changed that. It is the most perfect chocolate scent I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing! It’s like a crushed Hershey’s kiss, or the scent wafting off of your fingers when you’re done with a chocolate frenzy at Godiva. I’m not sure if I would wear this as a perfume, but I have been using it nonstop as a room scent. I'm sure many will disagree, but I prefer this to Vice.

Elizabeth, I just wanted to let you know that the perfumes arrived yesterday and YOU HAVE OUTDONE YOURSELF! I am in love with the whole bloody Mad Tea Party. Bliss is positively sinful. Hymn and Seraphim are truly angelic. I think Succubus has to be my new signature scent! I thought you might like to hear some postive news before you go! Have a wonderful time in Las Vegas! Would it be too much to ask that you snap some photos for our voyeuristic pleasure? I've never been, and I'd love to see it someday. Best of luck to Ted in his hockey tournament! I hope you all find the rest, relaxation and FUN that you deserve!

Chocolate and Cocoa, in every combination possible
viciousviolet replied to mand's topic in Recommendations
Eclipse is very almondy, as is Black Phoenix. There's also a single note of Sweet Almond. I agree that Vice will probably be the one you're looking for in a dark chocolate scent. -
To me neither of them were very almondy. I like Hellcat but I loooooove Old Port-Au-Prince, so I'll have to vote for that one!

No, Elizabeth, thank you. Thank you for your fun emails, your amazing creations, and for giving me a spark of creativity of my own that prompted me to write, paint, and !play! again.

I've been having email problems as well. We had no access whatsoever over the weekend.

This is the darkest scent I have ever experienced. It is the heaviest, deepest musk with an intense green undertone. It is intense, powerful and oddly enough the word “cavernous” comes to mind. This is the scent of an underground temple to a dark god. Like so many other BPAL scents, this one lends towards some true flights of fancy! I think that this scent will be more popular with men, but I do love wearing it. Burning this in my home has given me some darkly creative artistic stimulation, and was the catalyst in inspiring me to paint for the first time in a decade.

Another lovely spring/summer scent. This is similar to Old Shanghai, but isn’t as citrusy. It is like a dry white tea with a slightly spicy tough of ginger. The end result feels like you’re fresh from the shower. I am thinking about trying to mix this one with some water to make a body spray for when the weather warms up.
