Smut 2008 I took a risk when ordering this because it didn't seem to be the type of scent I normally wear. But after 3 strike outs on BPAL's, I finally picked a winner. I am not good at describing scents and picking out notes. Others have done that well here. No peanut butter on me at all. Starts off a bit sweet and then dries down to a smokey sweetness. Not overbearing as I would have gotten a headache. The best part about Smut is that my husband noticed for the first time ever in our 31 years of marriage! That is enough for me to keep this around.

In the bottle: strong gingerbread, almost overwhelming wet- still strong . Afraid it will make me sick dry- mellows and sweetens without being cloying. Smells like gingerbread cookies, not bready and not like ginger snaps. Softer and creamier. hours later- still lingering and softer. This one I like.

I just got my 2006 bottle from Ebay. I am so disappointed. I can't believe this is the same scent that almost everyone raved about. All I get is Vicks Vapor Rub or Moth Balls. No sweetness, no pumpkin, no apple. It never changed from the bottle to my arm. What happened? How can this be so different on me??

Oils to relax, calm, soothe, restore your sanity...

Just a quick note for those whose children have Aspergers or any of the PDD spectrum disorders/sensory problems. I am an OT and I work with children. Just keep in mind that their sensory systems are very sensitive and odors can trigger more stress reactions. With my new interest in BPAL scents I am torn with wanting to wear them to work and knowing full well that some children can't tolerate perfume. It becomes another assault upon their fragile sensory system. I would tend to think that vanilla or lavender would bring calm. Let the child experiment with some of the scents and see what behavior comes about. Remember that the olefactory system goes directly to the brain, unlike the cranial nerves. That's why the sense of smell is so profound..a direct link to the limbic system. I also am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and I personally find sandlewood a good grounding scent. When stressed or in need of comfort, I have used Antique Lace and DAn O'Shee the most. I also tried Zephyr and found it calming ...also more appropriate for a male. I am pretty new to BPAL, so I am just in the process of finding scents for myself also that soothe me. Denise -
