This is a powerful pine scent, without being aggressive. Thick beneath the pine is the smell of leather. This is NOM.

I was fortunate enough to be able to test all of the Weenies at September's Dirty South Will Call, and this was the one that really stuck out for me. XOMom ran a raffle and I was astounded to discover that I'd won, so I gave her a short list of choices and Hell-Gate was the one she chose. I am so glad that she did! This smells to me of leather and melted cinnamon/clove sweets. Very musky, with a hint of smoke. Just delicious, and I am so glad I have a bottle of this!

Yes, effervescent, exactly. In the bottle and fresh on skin, it really smelled like bubbles. Much sweeter and softer than expected. I also get baby powder out of this, which is confusing considering that two of the 3 ingredients aren't foofy like that at all. After about an hour, a note of damp loam comes out from under the baby powder.

This reminds me a lot of my husband's deoderant. Spicy, sharp, woodsy, but there is something else lurking underneath, like a scent of a woman who, The Morning After, using her partner's deoderant instead of taking a shower, so that she can treasure the memory of last night's debauchery just a little while longer. This complex and fascinating scent does fade, after about an hour, to a sort of cheap deoderant with some leather lurking around the corner. An extremely masculine scent. I will see how it ages.

This is citrus and light wood. I want to say cedar, but who knows? Thisis a surprisingly comforting scent.

A powerful floral, of lavender, vanilla and roses. A deep blend, without falling over into sticky or simpering. Sleek yet rough, baring it's teeth in a warning, while also being sensual. Other reviewers keep saying "vetiver" but I don't get that note, I get something else thick and dark. Quite nice.

This is fruity-thick and reminds me a lot of another BPAL which I just can't put my finger on. Of all the suggestiosn listed above, the only one that might make any sense is On Darkness, I will have to check. Me = frustrated at not being able to remember what else this is like. But it's awfully nummy.

Hrk This is PEPPERMINT! With stale leather (musk?) and something chemical/metal. On my skin, it smells as if there is amber in it. Which is a Bad Thing. Eventually, it stops grabbing you by the ears and repeatedly headbutting you, but what it settles down into isn't much better. Trade bag. Clearly, other people love this, and I will glady send it to a happier more welcoming home. Guh

This reminds me a lot of Pink Moon 07 (which I LOVE), and when I was at DSWC I ended up buying a 5ml because it was so wonderful. Normally I'm a patchouli/leather/vetiver RAWR kind of girl, but Beth's carnation note is just too wonderful to pass by. Very bright and pertly sweet with a little nibble in the background, like a kitten who hasn't yet figured out how to use soft paws - and fluffy and fierce and spiky all at the same time, while being perfectly precious.

Delicious leather. This is a million times better than Loviatar - if you want leather with roses, apply DeSade and your preferred floral, cuz? DAYUM!!! (rolls around in it)

This started so staggeringly fantastic, so magnificent, I thought it might even replace my beloved Lucifer. It began with a thick, dirty patchouli/tobacco cloud like a Bugs Bunny perfume that caressed your face with smoky fingers and drew you floating along. Alas, it turned to cardamom (dodged a bullet, no dermal reaction!) and was aggressively cinnamon-esque, shoving the patchouli roughly aside. Now that time has passed, it's cinnamon gum with soft sandalwooded flowers. We could have meant so much to each other, Alone, why did you turn away?

Grapefruit and coconut oil. I don't notice any similarity to Vampire From Planet X (which is one of my Top 10) Eventually a raspy wood note comes to the fore. Trade bag. This is a funny funny scent, I am glad I tried it

This is a smoky soap on me. Applies pleasantly, but after drydown doesn't smell great. The throw is delightful, however, and if I can restrain from sniffing my wrist (yeah, ha ha, good luck with that) I smell very nice for a little while. This is an EXTREMELY quick fade on me, so because of the quick fade and the smell on my skin, it goes to the trade bag.

I had such high hopes for you, Loviatar! Black amber is one of the only 2 ambers that work on my skin, leather equals love, and myrrh is glorious. Alas, Loviatar smells like cheap fake leather room freshener Trade bag.

A gentle vetiver and a divine patchouli combine with the musk and the plum to create a delectable red magnificence. Unfortunately, this faded quickly on me as I was running in circles, sweating a lot and washing my hands. Must find more!
-
I also get a sharp pine/juniper twang in there. But it's mostly hot leather and smoke. Freakin' glorious, although my Philistine husband first said I smelled like powder, then like a closet. We don't talk to him any more, he's clearly an idiot. Doesn't doesn't last as long as I would like (applied at 8am, by 1pm it's mostly just faint cedar & tobacco), but that astringent hot leather scent is NOM NOM NOM.

By Steve's Fuzzy Ears, this is AMAZING. It's worth slogging through a bunch of imps to find something like this. Starts resiny, and then develops the thick red plumminess of Frumious Bandersnatch that I love so. That plum does fade back, but as the source is myrrh, it still keeps that thick heady sweet resin. FABULOUS!

Wet, this is the boozy chocolate note of Wulric, the Wolfman. Drydown it turns softer, musty and floral. Vanilla honey cream behind that musty chocolate booze floral? EDITED TO ADD: boycat went insane over this. He sniffed my arm and arm thoroughly, trying frantically to find the actual application site on my wrist. Husband was amazed (he'd never seen Neo do that). No, I don't let Neo lick perfume, I turned my arm so that he licked the back of my arm instead.

This starts out like sugared melon - the melon isn't quite ripe, so the sweetness comes from the sugar. It's utterly charming. It does dry down to something dusty, though, and I can't quite figure out what it is.

This started as a weary floral, and turned soapy. I tried to wash it off with Dr. Bronner's Peppermint soap, and it GOT STRONGER. Hm.
-
This is a nicely dark floral scent. It seems to cycle between that and a curious paste, but the floral is dominant. Interesting scent, although it seems to be fading fairly quickly.
-
Very floral. Pity I can't pick up the wet cement note, I LOVE the way city cement smells after a hard summer rain.

I get no milk out of this scent, just herbs of green and a hot pepper (pink?) bite. Fantastic smell all around me, the throw is delightful. I can't stop sniffing myself LOL -

I also got an aquatic-ozone vibe from this. Something that said "open spaces". Smelled somewhat masculine to me. Quick fade, grumble grumble. -
This smelled gently floral in the bottle. Applied, it smelled faintly of peppermit - so faint that I had to repeatedly sniff and wrist until I could say "oh, peppermint!" This is so faint that it was as if I didn't apply ANY perfume today. I have never had a BPAL smell like ... nothing? before. Very straaaaange. Trade bag. Surely there is someone for whom this will be the holy grail.
