MIDNIGHT KISS In Bottle: Wine and patchouli On Skin: A lovely frimp from the lab, thank you!!! The wine is very strong, sweet and dark with just the right booziness. The patchouli is second in line, and sadly it’s not the patchouli that normally works on me. Here it is very dirty and combined with the other notes it amps it’s earthiness. The cocoa I notice right away… dark and powdery, but contributing to the sweetness of the scent. The red musk is gorgeous, it always seems to work on me. The sandalwood isn’t coming across as a clean note, which it normally does so that’s odd. But it does also jump on the earthy band wagon. The nicotiana gives a smoky quality and makes this scent a little more corrupt. This scent is sweet, dark and feral… very much like a kiss at midnight. This scent reminds me of a cross between Centzon Totochtin and Blood Kiss. A strong scent that can be worn by both men and women. Strong throw and long wearlength.

MUSE In Bottle: Sweet lime and florals On Skin: The florals are super sweet here, very cloying. The jasmine is through the roof on me. The lotus adds to that sweetness and gives a bit of that bubblegum note. Yeah, this is like a floral lime bubblegum. The lime is light, but it does give a slight tart zing. The tuberose is very faint, I barely smell it. The jasmine really overwhelms this scent though, it drowns the other notes. Jasmine can sometimes work on me, but not here. It’s just too much and far too sweet. The scent has a light purple/pink feel. Very heavy throw and long wearlength.

SLOBBERING PINE In Bottle: Sharp pine On Skin: This is a very sharp pine scent… almost like breaking a pine needle and getting that crisp fresh note. I can smell the sticky sap from the tree that gets on you and is impossible to get off. I grew up in the mountains so I’ve had that happen far too many times. It is sour and very pungent, a bit overwhelming for me. Great for someone who wants a pure pine scent, or to feel like they’re outdoors. Very winterlike and cold in feel. Super strong throw and very long wearlength.

COBRA LILY In Bottle: Sweet and herbal On Skin: Very interesting! The dominant note is a sweet floral, followed by a soft herb. The herbal note is not really medicinal but it does have a planty earthy quality. I smell honeyed lilys with a nice soft warm spice that has a slight bite, maybe cinnamon? The scent is light and subtle, a nice alternative for a floral. I like it, but nothing compares to my Black lily which is one of my favorite florals. This is more like an orange/yellow lily. Low throw and short to average wearlength.

ANATHEMA In Bottle: Powdery incense On Skin: This is very very strong. A most severe form of incense. Very thick and very smoky. It also has a very soapy note, almost like rose. The honeysuckle isn’t too sweet which is nice. The vetivert stays tame which is not normal for me. The black opium casts a very dark shadow and is the dominant note by far. This is a resinous and deep scent, not for the shy. Quite pretty but not really me. Super strong throw and long wearlength.

EVENT HORIZON In Bottle: Resin love! On Skin: This is the mother of all resinous scents. So thick and sweet… Absolutely gorgeous and sexy. This is dark, slightly spicy, sticky, brooding and warm. It’s incensey but not in a church-like way… more like an opium pit surrounded in cones of expensive resins seducing all that come near. I am a total sucker for resin scents… (loves me Mme Moriarty, Schwarzer Mond etc etc) and this one wins me over right away. I want to make lotions from it, spray, soap… yes yes yes. And I know my hubby will love it on me. It’s more sweet and mellow than some of the other earthier resin scents I love so it changes things up. A great scent for fall, when I want my hubby to grab a blanket and just curl up with me. Drop dead gorgeous. Strong throw and average wearlength.

EPITAPH In Bottle: Strong floral On Skin: Wow, this one makes my eyes tear up. It is very strong and very tart for a floral. The rose amps on me severe and it loves to turn sour sadly. The lily is behind it, with a slight sticky sweet note but the rose overpowers it. The ghostly mist just seems like more white florals. It’s quite soapy on me and very overwhelming. Still a pretty scent and very feminine, just not my style. If you are a fan of strong florals try this for sure. I’m going to pass it on to a better home. Strong throw and long wearlength.

SCHRODINGER'S CAT In Bottle: Lime and mint On Skin: There was no question I needed at least an imp of this scent, based on it’s inspiration. The notes didn’t really attract me, but come on!! Schrodinger’s cat!!!!!! Right off it is quite fruity, with the lime in the front, but then quickly replaced by the grapefruit. It’s sweet, tart and playful. Very refreshing, making me want some juice!! The oakmoss offers just a slight aquatic tone and the lavender also adds to the crispness of the scent with a nice herbal punch. I don’t smell chocolate much, maybe it’s just the note sweetening the scent and keeping the citrus in check? All in all, a great scent that really cheered me up. I won’t be parting with my imp. Moderate throw but sadly a short wearlength.
-
THE PHANTOM WOOER In Bottle: Light dry florals On Skin: The note that is dominant on me is lemon, tart and sour. But as the other notes show themselves, the honey myrtle sweetens it and gives it a light tea scent. The florals are soft, light and quite delicate. A good choice for someone who wants something flowery without it being heavy or cloying. The tone is white/light yellow to me. Somewhat sad and haunting… It’s a nice scent but doesn’t excite me too much but I wouldn’t mind smelling it on someone else. Very light throw and short to average wearlength.

HAIRY TOAD LILY In Bottle: Fruity On Skin: With a description like that, who wouldn’t try this?!?! It starts very sweet, and very wet, like biting into a very juicy fruit. It is strong, a little dab will do ya. As it develops, the sweetness becomes more tart and while it is still fruity, it’s like a fruit that is not yet ripe. I’m thinking kiwi… yes kiwi exactly. I can even taste it! You know that tart yet slightly sweet yumminess of kiwi? Kiwi and a floral… maybe rose that is adding to the sourness. It’s quite pretty and a unique scent for sure. I’ll hold onto the imp. Very strong throw and long wearlength.

HAVANA In Bottle: Earthy plants On Skin: This is very dark and very earthy. It has a patchouli feel on me which sadly is not good. In the background though there is a slightly clean note, sweet and pretty. It stays in the back though… if it would swap places with the earthy note I’d love this scent. The leather comes out after a while, adding to the dark worn in feel of the scent. Interesting, and intriguing but not really me. It has a masculine feel to it as well. I’ve never been to Cuba, but the tobacco really captures what I’ve envisioned of it. Moderate throw and average to long wearlength.

THE QUEEN'S SALON In Bottle: Sweet soft spicy floral On Skin: I love it at once… it totally has the same tone and feel as Queen of Spades one of my alltime favorite scents. I smell florals… I’m thinking a sweet red rose (just slightly sharp), carnation (I smell that spice it has) and maybe gardenia because of the creamy note it becomes on me. I also smell plum which almost always works on me and a gorgeous musk that provides a somewhat feral note as it develops. I love that is has a light spice and velvety feel. The scent is dark, but more like a dark red or purple that is seductively dark, not scary dark. Very elegant, very in control, very woman hear me roar. I want a gallon of it. Average throw and short to average wearlength.

DOOR 13 In Bottle: Clean sweet ozone On Skin: Yum! This is an almost fruity ozone. Sweet and tasty… I swear I smell a little coconut (it’s sweet creaminess) in there… and maybe even cucumber (that nice wet crunch). I love it, so refreshing and crisp. It’s super light and fades quickly but provides a nice “lean in to smell” closeness. I have seen other people remark on the metallic note in this scent, but on me it is very much in the background and not harsh at all. Mellow yet invigorating, a unique scent for sure. This is a great everyday scent and I can see myself wearing this anytime. Other people have mentioned lemon as well, and I don’t get that here, at least not in the front. There is a slight citrus note but it isn’t sour and it isn’t strong, it’s hidden under the other layers. A gorgeous scent for sure. Very low throw and short to average wearlength.

KUBLA KHAN In Bottle: Foody plastic On Skin: I don’t like this at first, it has kind of a chemical tone to it. I’m thinking it’s the florals… more than likely the jasmine. But as it develops the dark smoky notes balance the sharp sourness of the florals. The dark vanilla is delicious and sticky sweet. I can’t smell the ginger or mandarin… but I do smell the hay, and it smells… well exactly like hay. A bit dry and a bit sweet. The leather is very light and fades into the background. The sandalwood also stays in check and just offers a very slight clean woody note. I still think the jasmine and lily aren’t working on me here, they are just too sour. But the other notes are gorgeous and I love the parts they play. Overall it’s not really a scent for me, but it’s been fun to review. Light to moderate throw, short wearlength.

MARY READ In Bottle: Sweet aquatic On Skin: I love this aquatic! Usually I don’t feel one way or the other about aquatics, but this one is so sweet and pretty! Fresh and clean, yet sweet and shadowy as well. The darkness from the patchouli, rum and leather really tone down the brightness of the salt and ocean notes. Most the other piratey, ocean-like scents haven’t really worked on me. But hello! This one does. Slightly sour, slightly sweet, slightly dark, slightly bright… such gorgeous contrasts. When I need a break from the super dark musky and sweet foody scents I wear, this is a great one to reach for. It is a bit perfumey, but I like that here. It starts strong but fades nicely to a come hither skin scent. I smell water, the salt in the air, the wood of the boat, the rum that’s been spilled, a gun that’s been fired and the leather clinging to the pirates skin. Such a beautiful blend. Can be both masculine and feminine at times. An interesting morpher. Starts with strong throw but fades to about average to low throw. Long wearlength.

INCUBUS In Bottle: Herbs and caramel On Skin: Very interesting scent… wow. The caramel amps on me right away. But the mint and sage cut through it with a nice herbal edge, preventing it from being sickly sweet. What a nice contrast! The black musk truly is sexy yet soft forming the perfect base. The scent does feel slightly more masculine to me… or maybe I just want to smell it on a man. The nicotiana offers a tobacco note that is sweet and compliments the scent well, also adding a masculine vibe. It is so sexy! And since I adore foody blends that works well here, but the other notes keep it from being a truly foody blend so don’t be scared. I am making my hubby try this one for sure. Pure deliciousness! Moderate throw and average wearlength.

TROLL In Bottle: Dark spice On Skin: Eek! This is very dark and very spicy. Wow. It’s like a more earthy version of Three Witches and without the sweetness. I can tell right off this does not work on me. It is so thick with vetiver, cloves and smoke… all notes that hate me. The pine is sharp and sour, the vetiver and musk are feral and spooky, and the spices are hot and bitter. The description fits this scent to a T and is very much black and dark green in tone. So scary… and so not friendly. I may have to wash this off sadly. Super strong throw and I’m assuming a long wearlength but not sure since I’m washing it off.

ROUX-GA-ROUX In Bottle: Planty and aquatic On Skin: Wow, this scent is interesting. Very aquatic, but swampy and dark. The wood makes it even more outdoorsy and the moss and plants give a dirty earthy feel. It seems slightly more masculine to me, but I also could imagine it on a woman. I guess the aquaticness of it leans towards cologne like. Most aquatics seem so bright and crisp to me… but here it is without a doubt very dark and the woods give it an almost incense feel. They are not sharp woods at all. One of the florals is also a bit creamy, making this scent smell thicker than most aquatics. Very nice, not something for me exactly, but I’d love to smell it on others… especially my husband if I can talk him into it. Moderate throw and long wearlength.

GEMINI 2007 In Bottle: Strong lavender On Skin: I have come to accept about 90% of the time lavender doesn’t work on me, here is no different. The lavender is very strong and very pungent. The orchid is bright and slightly purple in feel. The frankincense offers a resinous and earthy side, while the benzoin gives a very light sweetness. The over all feel of the scent to me is a nighttime blend, just because I always associate lavender with helping me sleep. As the scent develops, it begins to work with my skin more and I don’t mind it. I would use it as a room or linen spray, but it’s still not something I’d wear. Light to moderate throw and fairly average wearlength.

MR. IBIS In Bottle: Light musky wood On Skin: Good god, how did I not review this till now!?!??! This scent is BEAUTIFUL. It’s on my bottle list for sure. One of my favorite notes ever is Egyptian musk, and it is dominant here… yay!!! So soft and sweet, paired beautifully with the clean smelling sandalwood. This scent is the definition of clean and white. But not in the overwhelming dryer sheet kind of way. It is perfectly balanced and while the clean note is slightly sharp, the vanilla flower sweetens it up and makes me a happy girl. The aloe is cool and refreshing. I’m normally not huge on soapy or aquatic scents, but the way this one is blended and so well balanced has completely won me over. Try this scent now, it’s fabulous. I want to wear it, I want my hubby to wear it and I want to spray my sheets with it. Light throw and average wearlength.

ALLISON GROSS In Bottle: Florals and dirt On Skin: This is an earthy scent… dark and smoky… but also brightened by florals. The rose amps on me and it is quite sour and sharp. The musk is pretty and along with the incense keep this from being a pure floral scent. I barely smell the Dragons Blood, it offers just a slight sweetness. This scent is quite fairy like, but more like a fairy in the forest who has been playing in the dirt and tunnels surrounding the base of trees. Not a sparkly cutesy fairy…. The scent is actually very very light and it fades on me quickly. As far as florals go, it’s quite pretty on me, not overwhelming or too perfumey. Very much a magical forest scent and I’m happy I got to try it. Light throw and short wearlength.

HI'IAKA In Bottle: Sweet fragrant florals On Skin: This is beautiful. A very strong fresh flower scent. I feel like I’m in Tahiti and wearing a lei. I don’t know most these flowers by scnet alone, but it is the general vibe and tropical essence they ooze. This is a scent that screams TROPICAL VACATION!! Very bright, very colorful and very happy. It is very very strong and heavy on the florals so a little dab goes a long way. I would love to use it as a room scent for those days I really want an escape. The floral that seems strongest to me is the orchid. And I love orchid so this works on me perfectly. I will wear this when I want a obvious feminine scent and when I want to feel pretty and fres back from the islands. Very strong throw and long wearlength! Also, not to offend Maryamblue, but Poison is my favorite commercial scent and I don't think Hi'Iaka smells ANYTHING even close to it on me... not even in the same ballpark. Our chemistries may be very different of course, I just wanted to say it's not like that on everyone.

GOBLIN In Bottle: Patchouli On Skin: I almost oredered this as a bottle unsniffed. I see coconut and all the other notes don’t matter… lol! I’m glad I started with an imp, because the patchouli in this belnd amps to the millionth degree. Wow! Very dark, and very dirty, I do love the coconut note, but it is the more earthy less sweet version. And the benzoin is delicious! But the patchouli overpowers them both and that’s what makes it not work on me. It is a naughty scent, and I love the name Goblin… which fits it perfectly. If you like earthy scents with a sweet side, check this one out for sure. Strong throw and average to long wearlength.

LIBRA 2007 In Bottle: Rose and cherry On Skin: The rose is very dominant and quite sour. The cherry and honey do try and sweeten it up, but the rose still remains the frontrunner. I hate to say it, but at first this scent has a bit on a Windex feel to it. A little chemical cleaner… I can smell the bitter carnation and combined with the rose this scent really isn’t working on me. The currant, fig and plum are actually very light and I almost can’t smell them, just a faded purple in the background. I was hoping with all the sweet notes in this one, it would work on me, but sadly the rose and carnation win out and I can’t wear it. It is quite soapy with an odd Windex feel to it. I have the original Libra and love it and will treasure that bottle but this one will go to the swaps. Fairly strong throw and long wearlength.

HUNTER MOON 2007 In Bottle: Powdery musky love On Skin: Oh wow… I am bowled over. This is FREAKING gorgeous and I should have gotten 10 bottles. This is the softest, most sexy yet comforting musk blend I have ever smelled. The feral animalistic tones are dominant, and before you start freaking out and thinking you’re going to smell like a deers musk glands, settle down. It’s soft, perfumey and sweet. With a dark pretty wine note in the background. The wine is much less dominant than the original version. The bonfires add to the dark tone and give a soft smokey base. The leaves are very light, and less woody feeling that the 2004 version. This scent to me feels like soft wool, warm and so very appealing. The chill of the approaching winter is a distant note on the side, causing me to bury myself further in the scent. This is a fall scent for sure, and exactly what I needed. Moderate throw and good staying power.
