OBOROT In Bottle: Earthy aquatic On Skin: This scent is a dark unforgiving ocean hitting the beach of a densely wooded foreboding forest. But only briefly… quickly it turns mostly into an earthy incense. The aquatic edge is still there, but just as a crisp afternote. The base is mainly resins and earth. I see this on a man and is not a scent I’d personally wear. It is so dark it’s almost scary. The incense is spicy with soil and woody notes. The pine and fir cut through the blend with a sharp sour feel. The tea and sea spray do give it a very light crisp edge which is refreshing. I don’t smell anything sweet here and it really doesn’t work on me. Not that I dislike it, I just don’t feel it warms up to me. Moderate throw and average to long wearlength.

BAD LUCK WOMAN BLUES In Bottle: Caramel and lime On Skin: Wow, interesting combination. I smell the caramel right away, sweet and sticky with the tart lime cutting it’s way through. The moss offers a very earthy base and combined with the sage, vandal root and cypress there is a sharp and planty feel as well. The vetiver is held in check, which is nice since it normally doesn’t work on me as is the lilac. I would say this scent is a men’s cologne with a light sweet tone and earthy base. The dark musk is quite pretty and gives the blend a sexy edge. The caramel combined with the cigar tobacco make the scent remind me of some of the Dogs Playing Poker blends and I feel adds to the masculine appeal. This scent also reminds me of Mr. Nancy but a bit more wearable. Mr. Nancy had a funky edge on me and my husband hated it… but here the notes harmonize better and nothing sticks out as off. Moderate throw and long wearlength.

PINCHED WITH FOUR ACES In Bottle: Vanilla creamer On Skin: Wow, I don’t see vanilla listed, yet the first thing this scent reminds me of is Antique Lace. Vanilla cream in a cup of coffee with cinnamon sprinkled on top of the delicious frothy foam. The woods are sweet as well, and only slightly earthy. This scent actually reminds me of MonsterBait Underpants now, and I’m thinking the dry woods in here must be sandalwood. The cinnamon offers a bit of spice here, just as the saffron does in Underpants. Yes, this is Underpants more masculine side. After about an hour I don’t smell coffee at all, and this is not what I would call a “coffee scent”. This is a beautiful blend and I’d love to have more of it and am quite sad I didn’t initially order a bottle. Sweet, soft, foody without making me hungry, and so very comforting. I want to bathe in this. I love that it is sweet, without being cloying or overwhelming. Everyone must try this scent, bravo Beth!! Light throw and short wearlength.

RIDING THE GOAT In Bottle: Smoky wood On Skin: This is a very dark, heavy, smoky wood scent with an even darker spicy incense. Wow, I can almost cut through the smoke with a knife. The scent is dry and powdery with a dark red, almost black tone… like a black baby powder instead of white. It is sweet and actually begins to lighten up quite a bit as it develops on my skin. At first it was overwhelming, but now it settles down and gets cozy and comfortable with me. Very pretty, and unisex in my opinion. I like pipe smoke better than cigar or cigarette smoke, it’s much sweeter and doesn’t coat my lungs. A warm deep scent, perfect for anyone who likes incense or smoky blends. Starts with a strong throw but actually quickly fades to a moderate throw with average to long wearlength.

MR. JACQUEL In Bottle: Amber and patchouli On Skin: My skin amps the patchouli right away. Very dark and earthy, this is the form of patchouli that doesn’t work on me. This scent is almost scary it’s so dark and swarthy… almost evil in tone. The description fits it well and creates the perfect visualization. The embalming spices do give a nice exotic Egyptian feel and again add to the overall vibe of this scent. The amber is sweet and powdery, the hyssop is slightly medicinal and sharp. Overall this scent is brooding, spicy, dark and heavy. Like an evil cousin to Schwarzer Mond. But Schwarzer Mond’s patchouli loves me whereas Jacquel’s patchouli does not. I think the sweet and stickiness in Schwarzer Mond help as well… and Jacquel’s spiciness and earthy side just don’t gel with me. Strong throw and average wearlength.

MAD SWEENEY In Bottle: Woody booze On Skin: This smells like a keg of whiskey, can it be any simpler? It is whiskey almost as a single note, with just a slight soft woody background note and a little bit of dust that has settled on the top from sitting in the cellar. Very sweet, very boozy and very heavy. My husband loves whiskey and is going to love this on me… even though it’s not a scent I would ever wear unless I wanted to smell like I’ve been drinking all night. It’s a fun whimsical scent, but not a scent for casual wear. Strong throw and long wearlength.

FAIRY MARKET In Bottle: Candy On Skin: Yum! This smells so sweet and candylike! This will be a favorite of mine for sure. While it has the cutesy girly candy feel, there is also the florals that offer an earthy and more refined feel as well. I smell sweet vanilla and a light spice from the golden incense. The grass note does indeed offer a clean feel, but it’s more dry and grainy than wet and green to me but it helps balance the dominant sweetness. I keep thinking it’s smells like something obvious… and after a while it hits me… the first stage of this scent reminds me of Cheerios! Yes! The powdery sweetness, the fruits, the grassy note gives it kind of a grain/cereal feel… As the scent develops, it becomes much lighter and does remind me of a very airy fairy mist. Gentle, pretty and purely feminine. After 2 hours, the fruity sweetness has faded and I am left with a very light floral scent. Bottle worthy for sure. Very light throw and fairly short wearlength.
-
TRISTRAN In Bottle: Crisp woods On Skin: This scent has a very light, crisp and slightly sour feel. I smell the woods right away, especially the rosewood and it’s strong throw of rose. The mint is sharp and along with the lemon peel, really cuts through this scent. The patchouli is a smoky resin base. The tonka offers a sweet side, but the other notes really do dominate over it. It is a very masculine scent for sure, with both a dark and light side. The woods give a fresh feel and make it light, while the patchouli grounds it and makes it slightly shadowy. Very well blended but a bit sharp for my taste. Medium throw and long wearlength.
-
SHADWELL In Bottle: Milky cologne On Skin: Hmmm…. This is an odd one. The cologne notes are dominant. Smoky and a bit leathery. The tea giving a bitter tone and the condensed milk dripping a light sweetness over it all. I don’t smell a raincoat and the mildew is just a slightly off aquatic. Not brisk and fresh, instead more like pond water. The smoky cigar note is strongest by far. Not my favorite of scents for me personally, but I can appreciate the creativity and workmanship that went into this blend and would love to smell it on my husband. The milk note is very light and not overly creamy or yummy like Milk Moon or any of my favorite milk scents. Here it is much more in the background and more like a light vanilla. A masculine blend without a doubt. I’ll see if my husband likes it… I hope he does. After about an hour I begin to like it even more. Light to medium throw, average to long wearlength.

AZIRAPHALE In Bottle: Perfume dust On Skin: This smells like a pretty perfume that has evaporated and turned into a fine dust. Very powdery, very sexy and very interesting. Another image that comes to mind, is old love letters, withering away but still holding the perfume of the sender. The woods are light but still quite dominant. The musk is the sexy note and gives this scent it’s appeal. I could smell this on a man or woman, it’s so very pretty. Normally I’m not a fan of powdery scents or overly perfumey scents, but since this is a more musky perfume and not a floral, it captures me. I would like a bottle of this to share with my husband, if I can get him to wear it. I like that it is softer and more refined than the heavy leather scents I’ve been making him wear most of the time. Absolutely gorgeous. Light throw and short to average wearlength.

ONE TO TIE, TWO TO WIN In Bottle: Grass and gentle meadows On Skin: What a pretty scent! This is a field of dandelions on a warm spring day. So fresh, so light and so very gentle. I would love this as a linen spray, it instantly relaxes and comforts me. It transports me back to when I was 4 years old and we would go up to the lake. I would collect dandelions and use the heads to smoosh on my face like yellow blush and then peel the dandelion stems and drop them into the water and watch them curl up into curley-cues… I was obsessed in curley-cues even back then… wow… those were the days. Such a pretty scent, I would love to have more. Light throw and average wearlength.
-
STRANGER IN CAMP In Bottle: Holy pine Batman! On Skin: This is a tree scent without a doubt. Very sharp, very pungent and very outdoorsy. The cedar sweetens it and the smoke gives a good base with a soft feel. This is not a scent I would wear as a perfume, but I would like to use it as a room scent especially in the winter when I want that fireplace kind of feel. But just a touch of it because it is strong and I wouldn’t want to give anyone a headache. I think a candle scented with this would be perfect. A beautiful forest scent and perfect for anyone who loves pine scents. Strong throw and long wearlength.

13 (July 2007) In Bottle: Hot cocoa and fruit On Skin: Wow, this 13 is very cocoa heavy. It’s not sticky melty chocolate, it’s dry powery cocoa that has just been blended with some milk and has a tasty fruity dessert on the side. I really like the chocolate feel of this scent, but I’m not a fan of it mixed with fruit. I think mainly because when I eat chocolate, I like it by itself and don’t like it mixed with fruit, nuts or anything like that. The ginger is very light adding a soft spice along with the clove. The honey and vanilla layer the sweetness, and the peach and starfruit offer a little tart tang to cut through the decadence. The orchid is also there, but so very faint and more like a sidenote that stands on it’s own and doesn’t really get drowned by the molten yumminess. It’s a very interesting scent, and one of my favorite 13’s for sure. I like that the cocoa is dominant and remains that way. It does make me hungry and I’m going to go make a cup of hot cocoa right now. Strong throw and average to long wearlength.

THE SPORTIVE SUN In Bottle: Cedar and resin On Skin: This scent is quite dark on me, the resins are soft but just a little cloudy. The cedar is very dominant and very earthy. Where as the Gibbous Moon is very light, wet and chilly, this is dark, dry and warm. I don’t smell the heliotrope which usually amps on me and is very candylike. The almond flower is present but soft and just a hint of sweetness. The amber is very powdery and adds to the warm dry feel. While this is a pretty scent, it is far too powdery for me. Scents that are this dry make me feel like I’m going to sneeze. But don’t be scared off, it still is lovely and a great “sun” scent. I am a fire sign and had hoped it would work for me, maybe just every once in a while. Light throw and short to moderate wearlength.

MAMA-JI In Bottle: Soft, spicy and delicate On Skin: This scent starts out very powdery. It’s gentle and comforting like a hug from your grandmother. Such a scary description, for such an innocent scent. There is the spice which helps add a bit of fire to the mood, but still, it remains quite delicate to me. The primary notes are incense and the florals are so soft I barely smell them. The cardamom is the most dominant and it is usually a note I don’t like, but here it is so warm and cozy. It’s a rainy day today and this instantly made me feel like I have a warm blanket around me. It also has a sexy resinous side which I love. For fans of spicy and incensey scents, this is a must have. It has a light throw and moderate staying power.
-
AH'DUNO In Bottle: Minty Dragon’s Blood On Skin: This one has Dragon’s Blood in it, I can smell the sweet note right away. It also has a note that starts minty but morphs to more spicy after about 5 minutes. Sadly, from the beginning it smells like bathroom cleaner to me. After it starts to warm on my skin and becomes more spicy it loses that “bathroom” feel thank goodness. But I’m not a huge fan of Dragon’s Blood so it’s not anything I will be searching more for. It’s a very light scent and the staying power is also pretty short on me… it fades away softly.
-
THE EMATHIDES In Bottle: Sweet and lavender On Skin: Oh my god… a lavender scent I love!!! Usually lavender is one of my mortal enemies, but here the other notes sweeten it and it matches up nicely. I am in love with this scent and must get more. It is like nothing I can even describe. So unique and delicious. Sweet yet tart, smokey yet creamy. The orchid is elegant and commanding, the amber is dark and seductive, the blue musk softens the edges of the lavender and rose, the violet is candied and innocent and sweetens the entire scent. The cedar is light and a background note. And the black burrant does NOT turn to cat pee on me here so I am quite the happy girl. This scent is so elegant and strong. It screams royalty. Dark purple in tone. I want gallons. The sweetness reminds me of the sweet feel of Gucci Rush and Hypnotic Poison, two of my favorite scents ever, but the rose and lavender offer enough sharpness to cut through it and keep it from being TOO sweet. This is going to the top of my list. WOW. Medium throw and short to average wearlength.

SINGING MOON In Bottle: Herbs and dirt On Skin: Wow, this is so interesting! A very unique lunacy, like nothing I’ve smelled before. Very earthy… primal almost. The grave grass is the dominant note. The herbs offer a sharp twist that keep the dirt from being too dark. The autumn fires are quite pretty, not icky thick smoke, but more like a faint cloud in the distance. The florals are not sweet, there are quite bitter and sharp as well. The aquatic tone is also quite nice and a good contrast to the dirty earth and smoke. A clean yet dirty scent… how fun! The closest scent I can compare this to is Shanghai Tunnel. It has that wet, rock and earth feel. I really like this scent and am happy I have a bottle. It will be a good transition in Fall scent for me. Medium throw and average wearlength.

PRUNO In Bottle: Sour nasty water On Skin: At first this smelled like dish water after you’ve cleaned a bunch of dishes. Very sour, leftover food, ick… The apple is very sour and the orange adds to that super tartness. The ketchup makes my stomach turn a bit and the sugar doesn’t seem to be sweetening anything up. Some people have compared it to wine spritzers and I can agree. It has that fermented and carbonated feel. Not something I ever want to smell like though. As the scent develops, it becomes much less rancid and more fruity. Still a bit too sour for me and overall it smells like juice that’s gone bad. Oh my god, I just realized what it smells like exactly!!!! Orange Airborne tablets!!! Those tablets you disolve in water and drink to fight off a cold. I hate to say anything negative about Beth’s blends, but this one hates me with a passion. I need to wash it off. Strong through and unknown wearlength.

PRIVILEGE In Bottle: Dry and mossy On Skin: This scent has a very dry powdery feel that makes my nose tickle. Kind of a stone/dirt note… ahhh… it’s the oakmoss. The florals come out next, quite stark and sharp. It is pretty and feminine, but very empty. Like a bouquet of flowers but the flowers have no color, they’re just a black and white photo. Very snooty, very expensive smelling but very lacking in substance. Very Paris Hilton. As the scent develops, I sense a rotting note coming forth. Like flowers that haven’t had their water changed in a few days. It’s light and in the background, but it taints the beauty the scent has overall. The florals and oakmoss are strongest and the vanilla sweetens them only slightly. Overall it is a very white empty scent that is nice enough, but nothing exciting or overwhelmingly memorable. Strong throw and average wearlength.

LEO 2007 In Bottle: Foody resin On Skin: I love the bottle! Being a full blooded Leo, I was aching to try this scent. The first whiff blew me away. I need gallons. It smells quite foody at first, sweet, caramely and decadent. Egyptian Amber is one of my favorite notes in the world, and here it is highlighted perfectly. When paired with the saffron, the sweet yumminess is beyond description. The walnut bark adds a nutty note, again adding to the foodiness. The frankincense compliments the amber and gives a gorgeous rich spice. The chamomile blankets all the notes in a soft velvety comforting almost creamy tone. All combined it is a FABULOUS scent. But the funny thing is, I get undeneathe it all, a zing of citrus. I smell the orange peel I couldn’t really smell in Red Moon… how odd!! It fades though and becomes more woody than orange so maybe it’s the bark that I’m smelling. I am so happy my sign has the best scent ever. This is seriously one of my favorite BPAL scents now. I want more!!!!! I will be wearing this one every chance I get without a doubt, and making a spray and lotion to compliment it. I am completely in love!!! Thank you sooooo much Beth!!!! Medium throw and short wearlength.

THE GIBBOUS MOON In Bottle: Cucumber and night flowers On Skin: This is RIGHT up my alley! I love cucumber, one of my favorite notes ever and mixed with the beautiful night blooming florals it is a perfect mix. So soothing and clean, very white/pale blue/pale green in feel. Somewhat like Blue Moon and Black Moon, but much more to the point and refined whereas the other two have more levels and are more floral. The cucumber is a brisk fresh note, the moonflower, orris and lily are very pretty clean white florals and the hyacinth adds a drop of sweetness to them all. The ginger is also very tame, just a slight spice in an otherwise airy subdued scent. The moss gives a nice aquatic tint that adds to that airy almost watery feel. A beautiful scent for a hot July night. I will be wearing this a lot and am so happy I bought a bottle. Light to medium throw and long wearlength.

RED MOON 2007 In Bottle: Soft sweet resin On Skin: This is so pretty! Almost a pink feel until it warms up and feels fully red. The pink feel I get is from the heliotrope which comes out on me first reminding me of Lolita and Tamora... both scents I love. The orange is light, which is a shock since it usually amps on me. Here it is soft orange blossom to me, not the tart bitter peel that I thought it would be. The herbs are also soft and luckily not sharp or medicinal, just softly soapy and in a good way. The sweetness of the dragons blood, heliotrope and amber keep them in line. The scent is very light and very gentle. I just looked back at the firums and my review of the original Red moon has vanished so I will try and review that one again, but from a quick sniff comparison I’d say the original is much more bright and vibrant red, whereas the 2007 version seems softer and more muted. I think the addition of the red musk does that since it is such a gorgeous velvety scent. As the scent develops it become more perfumey and very elegant and feminine. Wow!!!! I want more!!! Oh my god... I just realized what this scent reminds me of at this stage... Arcana's Queen of Crossbones (minus the honey note)!!! No wonder I love it so much, QoC is my favorite Aracana scent ever. All in all, I LOVE it and will be wearing every drop. Soft, slightly spicy, clean and warm… a perfect scent. Light to medium throw and average to long wearlength.
-
ARABIAN NIGHTS In Bottle: Resin love On Skin: I am a huge fan of resins and this one is the queen of resins. The dominant note is myrrh, a note that tends to love me. Quite similar to the TAL version, but a bit darker and sexier and slightly more powdery. I get a tart bitter floral in the background, most likely rose. But with the sweet myrrh, it actually stays in check and compliments it perfectly. I also smell the telltale spicyness of carnation, again a note that normally doesn’t like me but works very well here. I love this scent on me, but my husband thinks it’s a bit too incensy. Oh well, too bad for him. I love wearing it. Strong throw but fades to a soft skin scent, medium wearlength.
-
LOVE-IN-IDLENESS In Bottle: Sweet but also menthol On Skin: Beautiful! I get a sweet almost like dragon’s blood (but not quite) note here. They a slightly sour rose and a menthol like herbal note. Very feminine to the extreme, dainty and pretty. If you love florals try this one out since it is quite unique and unlike any other floral I’ve reviewed. As the scent develops more, the menthol note diminishes and it becomes a perfect blossom. Quite nice and something I’d love to spray my bed sheets with when I want to feel extra girly and flowery. Light throw and average wearlength.
