BIEN LOIN D'ICI In bottle: Light sweet resins On Skin: I bought this as a bottle unsniffed just because all the notes sounded like winners to me. Sadly, on my skin things didn’t come across as planned. At first it smells slightly medicinal… and like a bandaid. Then it starts to develop and the musks come out, quite feral… almost reminding me of Enraged Orangutang Musk. The benzoin is sweet and resinous. The honey (my favorite note in the world) is very light and hard to tell it’s even there other than it sweetens the blend. The caramel is also super light. Usually in blends where it is present, it’s the first note I smell. Here it is just an echo and not foody at all. The Morocaan spices are quite obvious though… this is a resinous spicy exotic blend but with a very light feel nothing, heavy or dark. I think it’s a beautiful scent, not really sexy as it is feral, but interesting none the less. It’s like a cleaner and much lighter version of Smut. Also, as it develops, it takes on a soapy tone. Starts with a strong throw but as it develops it’s throw and body fade…. So I’d say a medium throw with average wearlength.

OSTARA In Bottle: Sweet florals On Skin: The first floral I smell is daffodil… this scent actually seems like a bright yellow daffodil all bottled up. After a few minutes other notes peek out, I can smell the violet leaf, a bit of the fruits and the earthyness of the orris root. The franincense is very light, just a smidge of it hiding in back. I don’t get the honey cakes and sweet cream, the two notes I was looking forward to the most. Nothing foody about this scent at all, it is pure floral spring… bright sunny yellow in tone. The resins do ground the scent and keep it from beeing a sharp or sour floral, very nice. The honey cakes start to come out... but not as honey or cake... but more as honeysuckle. All in all, it is a scent made for spring, no doubt about it. Sadly it fades uber quick and seems like I would need to slather it on and probably layer it as a lotion, spray and scent locket to keep the springtime feel around me for any length of time. Throw is also quite light.

POISONED APPLE In Bottle: Apple On Skin: Apple extreme with a earthy dirty note underneathe. The hemlock adds to the earthy plantyness of the scent. The opium gives a dark, deep background note and I smell a very sharp and sour floral… almost like rose but not quite. This scent is not a sweet apple, it’s more like one that has been picked too soon and is still hard and very tart. It’s not my thing, I’m not usually big on apple scents… but if you do like apple blends, this is a nice variation. Medium to strong throw and short to average wearlength.

THE KNAVE OF HEARTS In Bottle: Black currant tart for sure On Skin: I’m hungry now. It smells like the perfect little pastry. I can smell the flaky crust, smell the warm and bubbly black currants peeking out and then underneathe it all… a bit of rose. Very interesting. So foody and then a little floral thrown in. The tarts are so sweet they tone down the sharpness of the rose and work quite well together. And whats this? No cat pee? Black currant not turning into cat pee on me??? Stop the presses!!! I am so happy! But it’s not a scent I’d wear because it does make me far too hungry. I’d love to use this as a room scent, it’s very comforting and warm. Plus it would make people believe I could actually cook pastries. Light to medium throw and average wearlength.

CROQUET In Bottle: Fruity florals On Skin: This is so pretty! Delicate and happy, pure spring joy! It is very yummy too… almost like a candy. The lime and grapefruit are tart and give a wonderful zing, and the nectarine is also tart but more juicy and full on fruity. While the fruits are tart, they are also sweet… like a sweetart candy… I love that combination of sweet & sour. The patchouli is very tame and just gives a wonderful woody background note, and the musk is to die for. Soft, velvety and and perfect. The sage and rose are slightly sharp, but the musk and patchouli’s darker feel help even them out. I don’t really smell the bergamot though, which is ok since it usually doesn’t work on me. I also feel like I smell just a slight hint of coconut.. not sure why… I want to make a spray of this, it smells so refreshing and perfect for a spring day playing croquet! Light throw and short wearlength.

THE DODO In Bottle: Extreme cassia On Skin: Spicy hot cassia… wow. This will open your eyes and even makes my nose burn. Ick, this is a scent I hate right away (sorry Beth!!!). I have never liked cassia and here I know why. It’s just too darn spicy. In this scent it is so overwhelming I can’t even smell the other notes. If I inhale over and over again searching… I do smell something slightly sour, the lemon peel and a something a bit woody… the sandalwood and agarwood. But that’s it. I smell no fruit, no musk and nothing sweet. I need to wash this one off, it doesn’t like me at all. Super strong throw and unsure of wearlength since I’m washing it off.

CALICO JACK In Bottle: Sweet sea and leather On Skin: I’m pleased by how this one turned out on me. I thought it would be full of patchouli like some of the other piratey scents, but no… this one is soft and sweet. It has the beautiful sea air, the wooden planks of the ship and the rugged leather of the swashbucklers. Sexy and very manly. If you read my reviews, you know I LOVE leather scents on men, this one included. Usually leather scents are a bit dry and warm in feel. This one has the wetness of the sea and the cool breeze that gives it a nice clean contrast. The spises are light and combined with the musk they give a nice background that isn’t too dark since the other notes keep it in check. I really like it, lets hope the hubby does. Plus it has a freaking great name. Medium throw and average wearlength.

HERBERT WEST In Bottle: Embalming fluid On Skin: This smells like Beth’s Embalming Fluid scent to me right away. Very bright and green with a splash of lemon tea. There is a masculine cologne scent as well and makes the scent a little softer and not as sharp. But still, it’s not my thing… a bit too soapy and masculine for my tastes. It has a very green/yellow tone in feel. Clean and fresh. It also has a very light throw. All in all I’d say it’s a more masculine version of Embalming Fluid. Light throw and short wearlength.

VOODOO LILY In Bottle: Spicy… ick? On Skin: I love Black Lily, it’s one of my favorite scents. I’m not sure what this is. It is completely spicy and wonky on me. It smells like dead fermented flowers mixed with spice and vinegar. What in the world???? I decide to give it a chance… and as it develops it becomes much prettier and loses the pungent ick. There we go, lilies yes, but mixed with something quite interesting that I can’t put my finger on, but voodoo spices seem like a good answer. It sweetnes up and actually becomes gorgeous. I just don’t know if I can wait every time I wear this for the scent to develop before I leave the house. Pretty, exotic and breathtaking though. Medium throw and average wearlength.

SQUIRTING CUCUMBER In Bottle: Cucumber love!!!!!!! On Skin: Oh happy day. This is a wonderful just been cut green cucumber. So fresh, so crisp and so cucumbery!!! I am seriously dancing by my computer. I love cucumber, it’s one of my favorite notes. And here it’s perfect… it’s not too bitter, it’s not too vegetabley… it’s beautiful! Theres a sweet floral mixed with this… a cucumber blossom maybe? It is perfect and I’m getting a bottle for sure. And I love layering cucumber… I bet this mixed with Yamaya will make a great “Tranquil Breeze” kind of feel. Yum, yum, YUM!!!! Thank you Beth!!!! I love you!!! Light throw and short to average wearlength.

51 In Bottle: Clean bright perfume On Skin: Wow. After being in a musk mood lately, I’ve been wearing very dark, brooding, plush and haevy scents. This scent just blows me out of the water. So very bright and so clean! Yes it’s musky, but clean very gentle musks. The fruits are delicious, especially the honeydew. The florals give it a very feminine perfumey edge. While it can be sharp at times, the fruits seem to sweeten it up and keep it balanced. It’s aquatic, woody, fruity and clean musk. An amazing combination. Very green in tone and I love that it’s called 51. I am an alien freak and even made a special trip just to visit Area 51. This is bottleworthy for sure. Strong throw and average wearlength.

QUEEN ALICE In Bottle: Floral wine On Skin: Yum, I love the wine note in this. Very heady and adult for Alice. Mixed with the spicy cider it is quite juicy. The carnation adds to the spice and the posie give it just a bit of floral innocence. The amber is light and soft and gives a slightly white/golden tone to the scent. I loved the original Alice but the carnation ruined it for me… here it seems to be doing the same thing. I don’t like spices, and carnation is bitter yet spicy on me. Very light throw and short wearlength.

FIRE PIG In Bottle: Fruity love! On Skin: This is a bright fruity scent with a nice orangey red tone. It has the feeling of celebration and cheer! The fruits blend so well, I feel like I’m drinking a smoothie from Jamba Juice. Sweet, but also a gorgeous tart citrus note. I can smell light florals in the background, but they are dwarfed by the fruits. The dragon’s blood is also faint, but adds a sweetness and also heightens the red tone of the scent. This scent is very beautiful, and while I was scared of it at first because I thought it would just be fruit… I realize as it develops, the florals come out more and it is a very feminine and pretty scent. I’ll be wearing this for sure, especially when I need a bright happy feeling. I can’t imagine not smiling while wearing this scent. Strong throw and medium wearlength.

PINK MOON 07 In Bottle: Sweet carnation On Skin: Totally different that last years version and obviously since they are different formulations. The bottle has got to be the best BPAL design EVER, just had to be said. The carnation is the dominant note, yes.. very very pink carnation. There is also a super sweet note, almost like bubblegum. This scent smells like carnation bubblegum. The phlox gives a soft buffer to the bitterness that I usually smell from carnation. Sadly, after rose, carnation is probably my least favorite floral note. So while this is an adorable scent, it isn’t for me. I prefered last years purely candied Pink Moon. Light to medium throw and short wearlength.

KATANIYA THE CLOCKWORK WOMAN In Bottle: Cologne On Skin: This comes across as very masculine cologne to me at first. I was super excited about this scent because of my obsession in anything steampunk. It would fit the mood perfectly. As it develops it becomes prettier and not so masculine. It is sharp though and very clean. Aquatic and floral (rose I think?), which on me doesn’t work too well since it becomes sour and much too sharp. If you like aquatics and florals try this for sure. Clean and bright. Avergae throw and medium wearlength.

ESHE A VISION OF LIFE IN DEATH In Bottle: Herbal resins On Skin: The herbs come out right off the bat, very sharp and slightly medicinal. There is also a gorgeous resinous note here, the myrrh. Wow, and the florals give a extreme elegant feel to the scnet. This reminds me of Egyptian royalty. The jasmine is kepy in check by the clean sharpness of the other notes so it’s not cloying at all. The tomb dust does make the scent slightly powdery but not enough that it’s too dry. A clean and beautiful scent. Light throw and medium wearlength.

FAITH In Bottle: Sweet violets On Skin: Instantly I am reminded of the little “Violet Charmkin” I had when I was a kid. Remember Charmkins? They were little charm people you could play with and wear as jewelry, and they were scented. I love it!!! So sweet!! Like violet flavored cotton candy. I want to eat it!! It also reminds me of those little Victorian Pastilles candies. Very simple this scent, and I like it that way. Sugar and violet, nothing else. After about 10 minutes I do get a slight plasticy tone from this, but I don’t care since it is so slight. Medium throw and medium to long wearlength.
-
MESKHENET THE VULTURE MAIDEN In Bottle: Earthy resins On Skin: This has an Egyptian feel right away… It is gorgeous. Sweet frankincense comes out in the front, smoky sweet incense. The florals are also sweet but have a slight perfumey twang to them that helps cut through the sweetness. The palm fronds and reeds have a lovely aquatic and planty tone. I love that they help the scent from being pure incense. I’m not mush for incense scents, but this one has enough variety to it that I don’t feel too smoky or resinous. Quite pretty, I may have to have a bottle of this one. Plus I LOVE vultures. Light throw and medium wearlength.
-
TIRESIAS THE ANDROGYNE In Bottle: Caramel On Skin: The caramel is strongest on me, so sweet and thick. The black currant then comes out and is actually quite a true berry and doesn’t turn to cat pee on me like it generally does. The woods make a very dry and powdery background, earthy and dark. The patchouli is also earthy but the sweetness of the caramel keeps it in line and evens out the patchoulis bitterness. The cinnamon breaks up the sweetness with a fine spice, quite light though. The tobacco has a lovely smoky quality and compliments the other notes perfectly. This scent has so many levels! Sweet, smoke, spice, fruit, wood, earth… wow. It’s very interesting and I love how it started out so caramely but turned into a much more refined scent… not foody at all. This is unisex for sure. It has a great strong throw and long wearlength.
-
ISAAC THE LIVING SKELETON In Bottle: Honey On Skin: In the bottle I get a strong honey feel from this scent, which of course I love. On the skin I still get the sweet sticky honey, and I don’t understand since it’s not a note listed. The bourbon comes out strongly and is a beautiful boozy note, nothing too heavy. The tobacco gives a nice spicy smoky backdrop and the bayrun is quite sweet. There is a cologne note, but nothing too perfumey. I love this scent!! It sounds strictly masculine, but is far too sweet for my husband and I really like it on myself. The scent is very light, and it also has a slight herbal note. The scent is very sexy… I would describe it as a honeyed cologne. I’m going to make my hubby try it at least. Light throw and short wearlength on me.

HABU In Bottle: Sweet woods On Skin: I didn’t expect to like this scent, it sounded far too woody for me. But low and behold it is delicious!! So sweet and deep! The bamboo is light and actually overpowered by the teak and musk. I usually associate bamboo with light fresh oriental scents. Not here at all, this scent is dark with the bamboo offering a slight dagger of light. The musk is sexy, loving it and combined with the Snake Oil it has the perfect amount of resins and spice. The ho wood and teak give it such polished depth, woody but not dry. As the scent develops, it brightens up a bit and has the more traditional Asian BPAL feel to it. The throw is very very light and I have to lean in and really inhale to give a proper review. I love this scent but it’s one I’d have to completely cover myself in to really smell it. I wish it had better throw and wearlength. Still, it is gorgeous. Very light throw and short wearlength.

GREE TREE VIPER In Bottle: Sweet mints On Skin: This is so soft and minty!!! Yum!!! It’s not medicinal mint, or freezing cold in your face mint… it’s soft and comforting. A pick me up that clears my sinuses just slightly. So pretty… and fresh! Especially combined with the clean green tea note. It smells like a minty tea, very green in feel. I like the scent and would love to use it as aromatherapy, but I wouldn’t wear it as a perfume. I’d love to keep some in my desk drawer and have a sniff of it when I ever needed a booster to keep my energy going. The Snake Oil is also pretty silent in this blend, just a slight soft spice in the background and the vanilla keeping the mint in check. Light throw and short wearlength.

CORAL SNAKE In Bottle: Apple On Skin: Apple is dominant in this right away. Pure juicy apple. There is a light floral in the background… I can smell the slight creaminess of the gardenia. I don’t really smell the orange or lemon though. The Snake Oil spices shine through just enough to give some nice spice and depth but still it doesn’t really smell like a Snake Oil blend to me. It’s very pretty and quite tasty smelling but very, very apple. I can feel the apple skin just through the scent and even imagine biting into it and smelling the juice. It has a light thorw and short wearlength.

SMUT 2007 In Bottle: Sweet and resinous On Skin: Again, this smells almost identical to last years formulation. I LOVE Smut. I have 3 bottles of it. I wear it all the time, and I love telling people I’m wearing “Smut”, I mean how fun is that? I get a bit of patchouli just like I did in last years, it’s the only part of the scent I don’t like. The overall feel of the scent is dark bllod red, seductive and very naughty. I love how deep it is and how it just envelops you in musk. If you like musky scents, Smut needs to be on your must-try list. Strong throw and average wearlength.

RED LANTERN In Bottle: Nutty Kaluha On Skin: This is one of my favorite LE scents. It is so sweet and yummy. My husband thinks I smell like a Mudslide when I wear it. It’s a bit more resinous than the 2006 version. The 2006 was more foody and full of caramel. This one I can really smell the tobacco , amber and opium. Also the spices come through very nicely. It is so sexy. Dripping with sweetness but also blanketed by velvety resins and incense with the delicious coconut shining through. There is also that boozy note that it had last year, but again there is no booze in the description… The black currant is thankfully not noticable (Black currant and blackberry usually go to cat pee on me). This scent is freaking beautiful and I love wearing it. I have 3 bottles already though. Medium throw and short to average wearlength.
