    Gomorrah

Indeed much like a lighter Intrigue. I like this better. Starts highly medicinal and sharp. Whatever those black herbs are, they're here and they're bllllack. It smells like what I would imagine "tonics for all maladies" sold by peddlers in the 18th century must smell like. It's woody, earthy, smokey and dirty, probably vetiver as other have already said. The fig here is not at all sweet but very much present. It's a dominatrix fig... The dates I can really smell they're thick & syrupy and the currant is dark and the whole fruit combo has this rotting quality to it as again mentioned before. Dry, it's woody-fruity and well, dry. The final drydown is still divine, very close to the skin, alluring and softly sweet fruits and earth.

    Eve

From the vial and directly on my skin this is pure soap. Soap in the best possible way I might add as normally I vehemently hate soapy scents. I have no idea what apple blossom smells like so I'm guessing it's the other floral than the rose and ylang ylang. I'm practically hammered on the head with florals during the wet stage and let me say that it has one of the most beautiful rose note I have ever sniffed. The Lab has taught me that roses are not evil after all, with all their rosie goodies. There is an underlying juicy almost lime-like note lurking backstage. A milky creamy aura surrounds the entire scent, maybe this is the ylang ylang and the honey together. For a honey scent it's really not that sweet. I usually can't handle honey since it tends to overpower everything else. This is a lovely honey. Soapy sweet rose is amplifying on the drydown. Then fading and fading till it is no more. Strange that everything about Eve is everything I would have thought couldn't work on me but it does.

    Dragon's Musk

Starts out as pure Dragon's Blood but quickly gets heavily musky. There is a bitter note which pops up as the drydown begins which I cannot name. The bitterness fades into a very perfumey, very powdery scent. This is the longest stage on me. It dies two hours later as light musk extremely close to the skin.

    Love Me

Love Me started out as being sharply cinnamony and syrupy with a hint of smoke and citrus. As others have mentioned I think I smell Dragon's Blood Resin and jasmin. I think there's also vetiver and vanilla. With the drydown the sharpness fades into a gorgeous warm soft pleseantly sweet spicy lovelyness. It reminds me of Snake Oil a bit but this is softer and more powdery. Divine.

    Grog

Grog smells like rum fudge. It's like burnt brown sugar, vanilla, spice which I can't put my finger on and butter. It's a lot like Jack in terms of sweetness - hot burning sugar. The creamyness is more prominant than the alcohol note overall. As it dries the sweetness dies away a little but the spicyness remains. With a light application, it's really wearable and yummy. Overdo it and you and everybody else around you could pass out.

    Jolly Roger

This turned out to be a strongly soapy and aquatic scent on me, quite sharp. There is a hint of woodsy leather and rum sweetness but generally this is all mens soap on me. The salty note is wonderful but it only emerges in the initial drydown and disappears quickly.

    Thanatos

From the vial I smell a lightly sweet, quite sharp and dry herbal blend. There is zesty note like lime which is the most prominant and this continues when wet on my skin. I smell moss mostly, then myrrh and then a soft floral insence. Only during the wet phase do I get the slightest bit of mastic. As it dries I smell a very musty woody floral-herbal scent. It's really dry and smells like mens cologne/soap in the traditional old fashioned sense. Yet there is an edge to it. The myrrh and rose add an interesting twist. I don't think it ever becomes girly, but it smells unisex to me. It eventually dies as a very soft woody floral. I think it's one of those scents which are really unique but I can't put my finger on the exact reason why. It's confident, sexy and beautiful in a no nonsense, no frilly bits sort of way.

    Libertine

This is a beautiful rose fragrance. I'm not so much a fan of roses but that doesn't change how well made this is. I smell a citrus rose with woods adding depth and a powdery violet in the backgound. It smells like a garden and it smells perfumey. It smells like a very well behaved woman to me. A good girl.

    Coyote

This is blended so beautifully... In addition to the dry grasses, amber and soft musk I get something floral and... horror of horrors, a teeny bit soapy from it (could that be from the amber?). I mostly get musk and then amber and then that sweet woody floral note along with the leathery feel. There is an underlying bittersweet spice note too. I think it smells romantic. It's funny, one minute I think it smells very manly the next I decide it smells feminine. It stays really close to the skin. If it were a color I suppose it would be a soft grey. Lovely.

    Neo-Tokyo

I wanted a light cherry and this one is certainly so. I dislike the bitterness cherry has most of the time and in that aspect it's not bitter at all. However, it is much more soapier and ozonic than I expected which prevents me from falling in love with it. The green, fruity and even the metallic notes are great but my skin wants to hate ozonic soapyness... Fresh and clean. It's nice.
  11. I recommend Sudha Segara and Fae. It's really a personal experience though. There are so many to try here. You might want to try as many different types from different olfactory groups so that you yourself can get a better view of what does and doesnt work for you from BPAL. Good Luck!

    High John the Conqueror

It's perfect. In the vial I smelled cherries but on my skin I get grapes too. There is the typical herbal voodoo blend base which I adore. It's soapy in the best possible way. I hate soapyness but not this one. It's soft and round most wonderfully blended. I think the secret is that it makes me feel very comfortable and that makes me stronger. I love John.

    Crossroads

Jasmine Moss Incense sharp soap (why?!?) I think my nose just fell off. It burns the innermost corners of my nostrils! It burns I tell ya! Toooooo floral for me. When I wait for the drydown all I get is powder...

    Yerevan

It is a lot like March Hare. I love them both now. This is creamy apricots over musky powdery florals. The very faint pomegranate is like the balmy meaty white inner skin of the fruit.

    La Belle au Bois Dormant

Let me start by saying I dislike rose. I do not dislike La Belle. Tuberose is the strongest thing I get here followed closely by the pear. The best word to describe this scent is "Gentle". I recieved a nice little compliment when I wore this too. Not something I would automatically reach for but nice to have.

    The Raven

After trying this oil I realize now that I like orris more than violets. I was afraid the neroli wouldn't show on me since violets are so strong but it did and it gives the fragrance a lighter note. I loved Le Serpent qui Danse and these two do share a common violet but Le Serpent has more character. I was also afraid of the celery note some reviewers were talking about but thankfully I don't get it. Celery is the stench of evil!

    Brimstone

I suppose it reminds me of the smell of smoke but I rather think it's earthy, medicinal, masculine, bitter. Definitely vetiver and sage, I think. Layers with florals to perfection. I think it smells like moist bitter herbs thrown onto an outdoor fire.

    Sudha Segara

Fresh ginger root. Light honey that doesn't want to bite my nose off. Very light milky-vanilla. It makes me think of green tea. A little soapy. A lazy day or perhaps a good-girl day fragrance for me Beautiful.

    Fae

What I pick up from the previously vastly covered and wonderous Fae: Mostly peachy slightly bubblegummy (to my horror) but that fades, huzzah! bergamot and white musk have an almost mint-like effect. I too get anise but faintly. Lasts very little on me, is very nice.

    Jack

As I sniff the open vial I feel that I am about to leave this mortal life and in fact I have and am in hell! I close the vial and gasp for air. Death by butter. I apply and..... hmmm. It's still buttery but not fatally. Nutmeg, cinnamon, peaches, ginger. Before it dries I worry it'll be too artificial smelling but I needn't, it's divine. I actually don't get pumpkin, I get the smell of things that remind me of pumpkin. That is in no way a bad thing at all though. I think it smells more like peach pie. Cozy and comforting, lovely.

    Black Phoenix

Indeed it does start life as bitter almond going on sweet cherry. Soon it's a heavy florally soapy baby powder with almonds in the back. And that's how it stays on me till it dies away...

    White Rabbit

In the bottle: Honey, ginger and milk. On me: Initially it's a huge blast of honey. Honey is just something that never works on me... The linen notes come through and mingle with ginger, very sweet honey and milk. There is the tiniest faint black tea in the background. It's definitely black and not green, I love that about it but wish it showed more on my stupid skin. For some time now, it smells almost too sweet. The honey is screaming at me and I'm screaming back. Nose....is...on...fire...! Yet, finally it settles down and black tea is more prominant and I am left with sweet milky tea and lovely linen notes with the bite of ginger. I think it smells beautiful. Creamy rich with a refreshing kick.

Figs and Fig Scents - alone and in combos

thank you luxuria fallow deer, I discovered fig scents with Philosykos from Diptyque but I actually prefer L'Artisan Parfumeur's Premier Figuer. I'm not a fan of dried figs myself (darling bf likes them bless him) but I do love the gooey sweetness of the fresh fruit Adoring both BPAL and figs, it was only a matter of time before I wanted the ultimate BP fig!
