Something that smells like that vintage tinkerbell perfume
jizatt replied to fiddlefox's topic in Recommendations
found this quote online, can't find the notes for Tinkerbell though: LUSH: "Lately I’ve been toting around The Smell of Freedom solid perfume ($12.95), and I’m diggin’ it. It has a woodsy/spicy/floral scent. I don’t know if any of y’all used to rock Tinkerbell perfume back in the day, but this perfume smells uncannily similar to Tink’s scent. I love the nostalgia factor." another quote about the smell: "I hadn't thought about the Tinkerbell products I had as a child in the 70s until my daughter came through the house sporting the all-too-recognizable nostalgic scent. The perfume she is wearing is Burberry London and I swear it smells just like Tinkerbell!" and now I'm positive there are several varieties being discussed, because this person says: "We are all talking about the lightly orange tinted bottle with an orange cap. It has a green silhouette of tinkerbell on the the bottle. Its scent is of orange and cotton candy, absolutely heavenly." (I think this last one is talking about the disney version) -
I'll echo that madly in love sentiment. I was afraid of the violet leaf/white tea/dusty/wormwood making this a lovely-but-not-for-me bottle, but you just have to wait for this scent to sit awhile and warm up on your skin. The secnt at first is what I was afraid of -- all the cold parts (I think theres a skin musk here, the icy, the white tea, the violet leaf) -- but as it dries the rest warms up and takes center stage. Right now I have red musk, saffron, and myrrh, without being overpowering at all. Love.this. I'm predicting this to be the next The Girl in popularity after the fact.

where is the like button for this? I also wanted to say that the Hag one is very fresh garden, not dark at all. Im really wanting to try the Muse of the Night, the Wiley Grasser (such an unusual combo!), and the Gorobble =)

I'm getting the dry leafiness of this, with maybe just a hint of the vanilla and incense beneath. This is not really sweet at all though, it just keeps the leaves from doing what October did on me (the vegetal, cologny aspect) -- I dont get the aquatic vibe of some of the leafy blends either. drying -- I smell the amber coming out a bit more now, but this isnt the syrupy thick and sweet amber -- this really is incensy in nature. I'm getting the white musk now too -- sweeter than usual because of the vanilla/cocoa maybe. Overall impression - very dry, crunchy leaves, with an even drier amber base -- very autumnal. I didn't get any specific vanilla or cocoa - just the perfect autumn leafy perfume =) eta: later, drier -- a white musk perfume, very dry leafy, dry amber base -- I do get the cold essence that the others have noticed, but no mint to speak of

Recommend a scent for a specific dress or outfit

Darkling Thrush =) (warm amber, soft orris, and melancholy violet.) -
I've really wanted a dark fruit/musk scent, but none of the big popular ones worked for me. This is sufficiently different I guess, because this is a smash hit on my skin. Fruity without being little girl at all, this is lush and dead sexy on my skin. Love this so much =) The amber is gorgeous and I'm thinking the kewda is what's so honeyed floral and beautiful in this...

honestly, since its so many angles, its not the scent itself that will do this for you, but what the scent does for YOU that makes you attract that attention. Look for a scent that makes you feel strong and stand up straighter and make eye contact more aggressively -- the scent equivalent of wearing red, or a power tie For me, that scent is one of these: Antikythera Mechanism - Teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco. Illustrated Woman - Skin musk, smoky vanilla, pine pitch, patchouli, Indian resins, golden honey, and tobacco.

Haunted -- black musk AND amber (AND swoon worthy!) Black Opal can feel powdery as well

----I didnt get a very specific blood from anything -- BUT, to evoke the feeling of it, and the metallic twang a bit as well -- I would try: Blood Garden (Blood accord, bitter clove, English ivy, Tempranillo grape, red currant, oak, leather, blackberry leaf, and ginger lily) - this one is more complicated, but the closest to a realistic blood (plus other things) ----not all of these smell like actual, realistic blood - however - I think you should try these as well because they have their own blood-related merits: Blood Moon (three versions to work with!) these are actually the least like blood to my nose. Blood (Essence of dragon’s blood resin, thickened with myrrh and cherry, with a trickle of clove.) this really does have a husky, thick, life-heavy feeling to it. Blood Pearl (soft orris, blood musk, and coconut.) indescribable. the sexy side of blood. Blood Kiss (Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.) I dont get blood from this BUT throbbing is a good word for this one Blood Amber (warm, pulsating blood forever crystallized in golden amber resin) - I remember this one feeling thick, and its worth a test

I can't believe this little gem doesnt get more love! Is it the civet scaring you away? Give this one a test, it really is jsut a drop, so you can't smell it on its own. I mostly smell orris/iris, with just an undercurrent of sage -- this is a sparkling scent. Now, granted this is probably fairly aged at this point... but I love love this. Permanent bottle collection material here. Definitely wearing this summer =) eta: I get a musky feel from this as well, I remember thinking this was like a sparkly white musk -- that must be the civet effect. Must track down more examples to test

I too love Antikythera, and sometimes it is a bit much, even with how much I love it -- You might try layering it with something to take the edge off -- my ideas to try might be: Dana O'Shee, Boo, Sachs, or something along those lines -- thinking soft, sweet, uncomplicated. (and all lovely vanillas in their own right!)
-
I would like to make a case for Black Opal as the best vanilla ever (hjow do I always forget this!) with Lyonesse as a close second =) I would say Haloes, but that isnt pure vanilla love.. its more complicated

I was frimped an imp of Aremata Popoa and fell in love with the fizzy blackberry booze. Then I ordered two bottles (right before they were discontinued this year) and they are completely different, way stronger on the rum almost buttery-caramel-like . It sounds like it's the other way around- your imp is probably older. Ugggggghhh, that's exactly the difference, too! You think it'll improve with age or am I probably just out of luck? I have no idea, I too really hope that the bottles ages into that lovely blackberry like in the imp. So far I have just sampled the bottle again and it isn't very similar yet. Maybe it will take a little more time... I had this problem with Blue Fire. I was so desperate to get this bottle, my imp was gorgeous. My bottle... didnt do anythign for me. It was like the boring version of what I remembered. I'm wondering if I should try a different bottle, or just leave well enough alone

The absolute darkest scents? dark, ghostly, haunting, scary,
jizatt replied to Cinder's topic in Recommendations
Very fitting I'm sure, I'm resigned enough to the pokey instruments before I get to the dentist to want a scent reminder, though! I wish I had amped the lavender more, because it was almost wholly pennyroyal on me, and the lavender was just a weird, uncomfortable whisper in the background. I thought of it more as a ward against Pain =) (as well as my private joke hehe) -

I actually wore Pain to my last dentist visit hehe - kept that tidbit to myself at the time -
you could try Anactoria. I think the musk part is stronger, but its definitely worth trying =) (Golden amber, white honey, red currant, daemonorops, kush, and Arabian musk.)

I havent quite made up my mind about this one. I was hoping for mostly lilac and white musk. I do get mostly a gorgeous white musk, maybe the strongest white musk note from any I've tried with bpal. But the floral part is what has me undecided. It is pretty though, and white musk lovers and lilac lovers should give this a try!

I tried this bottle, mainly because of how much I loved her sister Hope (which gave me hope coincidentally enough, to try rose in a few more things). I don't enjoy violet that much, generally I wont wear it at all... so back story aside: This is stunning. The sugared note in Hope was what I really hoped for here, and it does not disappoint. The violet is pale and shimmery, and I smell what might be smoke or something musky underneath. I never really paid attention to the part of the description that said "Simplicity and innocence, gleefully despoiled" -- I think that's where this very wispy undercurrent comes from. Anywho - I do adore it, and its taking a permanent place in my box, as one of only two violet loves
-
I've never realyl given this one a shot because of my fear of lemon (which seems to have abated, as lemon no longer smells like chemical cleaner to me, but like a sweeter citrus -- I prefer it over grapefruit by far!) anywho zephyr has always been give to me as a rec for white musk which I love. So today, I wore it -- and it's a white musk stunner. Im sure the white and Chinese musks combine for the effect, and I get a hint of sweet lemony floral and maybe even the slight vanilla base. Its really hot out here right now, so this may have done better on my skin with the heat. This is now on my bottle-hunt list, and I love it!

oh that sounds like it would be amazing! I can't believe we dont have a SO/Rose scent!

reading through the thread now, but I've been trying to find a deep green, leafy scent. I thought once upona time it was Strangler Fig, but then it stopped working on me (hunting it don to retry now)
