This was immediately in the want category, and then the anise reviews came in and I didnt even put it on my decant list. I got the chance to try it finally though, and I am one of the ones whose skin loves this =) I do get a hint of the anise, but not in an awful way -- its more like evil pink vanilla. I love this one, and upgraded to a bottle!

No big university for me (at least not yet). Im looking at some conservatories in California though. I am an actor, makeup artist, and pin-up girl. Dont be fooled though im one of the biggest geek girls around. My favorite thing in the world is to make people laugh either with me or at me. Im not good at sports in fact im pretty accident proned but i do love dancing! I've been called cute, hyper, and chaotic. My favorite bands are:The killers, deathcab for cutie, rancid, and most boadway musicals. My favorite playwrights are Jean Paul Sartre,Neil Simon, William Shakespear, and Christopher Durang. Im a wierdo soo good luck =)I see Juliet for the acting/Shakespeare love, and Metallic Pinwheel for the chaotic, fun loving. For the pinup side, I'm seeing Bordello. Whats interesting is that these scents all involve fruit!
for me: I'm a literature lover, was a teacher, but now I'm a stay at home mom -- mainly because I dont know how to balance things. Its all or nothing for me. When I taught I was damn good at it, but not good at anything else. I tend to do alot of creative things - writing, painting, crochet, sewing, and I dabble in the perfume arts. I'm scared of my closet, although that seems to be better now that I have a baby to occupy my overactive mind -- maybe I cant be bothered with that stuff now that I worry for her! I love computer games, like the fantasy MMO's and the Sim games. I'm a blue jeans girl, although I like to dress it up with jackets and boots. I worry that I dont stand out enough, too average - brown hair, brown eyes, and I tend to avoid bright colors and flashness in general. Wow, seeing yourself summed up like that is hard!

this is nice when its wet, leaving me a bit undecided on the rose issue. BUt when its dry, its MAGIC. The tobacco/wood combo is smooth and the rose isnt heavyily rosey or sour on me at all. The incense isnt too smoky, or too anything. All very balanced, very unique, very huffable.

Posting here instead of making a new one (maybe we could combine the various powder threads into a big powder-lover paradise?) I love a good powdery scent. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), my chemistry doesnt really turn much to powder. Here are my favorite powders, what else can you recommend to me?
Werepuppy
Gladdener of All Hearts
Lyonesse
Hunter Moon 07
Black Opal
(I searched fairly thoroughly before starting this -- I found threads for DONT like powder, but none for the powder lovers)
I noticed a few mentioned here that I'm going to check out (Had Stinky and traded it for something... I think I need that one back -- Is it too much like Werepuppy?) I do need to try Diabolical Offspring and maybe retry Psychological Horror. THe rest of what I see listed is not powdery on me at all. Maybe Haunted. I should hunt it back down too!

I'm still waiting on a 3-22 order (two bottles, Black Pearl and the Harp) -- it was backordered for awhile, but last time I emailed on 4-08 they said it was in stock and should ship soon....
waiting on another order from 4-06, but I'm less concerned about that one

so if my favorites are these, what scent family am I in?
Haloes
Glowing Vulva
Torture Queen
the Girl
Dorian
Black Opal
O
Antkythera Mech.

what are you wearing it with? I can see Tombstone and Black Lace for sure. Plus what fun to tell people you are wearing Black Lace, and let them wonder What you're wearing it with will help me for suggestions (and pure nosiness!)

CTIII - DCV (605)straight sniff from the bottle this is very aquatic with a hint of fruitiness
once applied i get an amped up note of very clean fresh air...the fruitiness
fades away and turns into a slightly delicate floral...apple blossom i think ...
then the waves roll back in and there is the fresh, watery ocean...
really a lovely scent esp for summer but just not something that i would reach for often enough so off to a better home she goes
I received a bottle of this as a white musk/bitter floral blend -- so here is my take.
I do get the fruity something over the top, very very light. I dont get aquatic, but I do get the clean air feeling. The floral I smell is dry, not bitter, and my guess is chrysanthemum (from the similarities between this and Flowering Chrysanthemums). I get the fuzziness of white musk too I think, probably contibuting to that fresh air feeling. Now that its dry,m most of the fruity top note is gone and I have a fuzzy dry floral that I really like - very summer without being a sweet floral feel.

wet - this crossed between 'too strong' and 'I think I like this.' very citrussy top, and well behaved rose and jasmine under.
dry is where this one shines. I get a citrussy jasmine still, over a slightly powdery amber/orris base. I dont specifically smell rose now, but I think thats whats giving this the round rich quality.
I havent decided if I like this or not yet. Ill keep sniffing as it dries. Its evocative, but not really something I think Ill wear.

I tried this today (after a long hunt from reading the most melancholy scents thread) -- such a pretty pretty blend. I can definitely see this being a sad, grey day scent. I even get a salty sense of tears (the power of suggestion?). I can't pick out much in the way of individual notes now that its dry, but I thought I could smell sandalwood and wisteria when it was wet. I dont get a strong rose at all, which makes me happy =)
This sad little jewel will stay in my box, as a strangely comforting scent. Maybe its like watching sad movies when you feel like a good cry. Indulgently melancholy.

current LE that might also work -- Little Bird. Very similar to those mentioned so far.

The combination of Dorian and White Rider is VERY similar to Clockwork Couture: Female. The Dorian combo I made is is sweeter (which suits me fine), but you could use more of the White Rider and perhaps get even closer.

Thanks for all your suggestions!i have made some search and come across with these:
Habu: Snake Oil with ho wood, teak, black musk, and bamboo (i don't know how heavy is the bamboo note)
Fox Fires on New Year's Eve at the Garment Nettle Tree at Oji: Weeping cherry, watery bamboo pulp, nettle tree bark, green tea incense, soft musk, rice wine, and Japanese tree lilac.
Embalming Fluid : white musk, green tea, aloe and lemon. (It looks like a cool scent but i'm not fond of lemon very much so a bit afraid)
I tried Embalming Fluid today (hoping for stronger white musk), and Im not a lemon lover either. If you can wear it long enough to let the lemon burn off, its a lovely green tea scent

my favorite bamboo heavy blend is Autumn Coolness

Thalassa must be mentioned here for mermaids!

The notes in this are beyond perfect. Its everything I adore in BPAL (minus vanilla hehe) - Amber? Snow? Teak? Moss? yes and yes. When it was released, I practically ordered a bottle in the same breath I discovered it on the website. Then when I received it, I was quietly disappointed, but determined not to give up on my bottle. I got vaguely woody, vaguely snow, not even the snow I love in the other blends. I was so upset, but I have a bad habit of trading a bottle away too quickly and regretting it later. So I waited. I havent worn it since the week I received it, and decided to retest today because I saw it on someones wishlist.
SWOON.
This is what I wanted. The snow is the wet slushy kind, mildly minty. The wood is beneath, fuzzy with moss and snow. I do get the warm/cold contrast -- starts colder and finishes warm. Very subtle, very sophisticated, very different. Its like smelling the snow melt away, perfect for spring actually.

When I first applied this, I thought I wasnt going to like it. It was vague and not very vanilla at all, and... well my immediate reaction was swap. I only keep bottles I love. But leave it on your skin to grow a bit before you decide. Its cooler than I expected, but a very nice smooth cool floral/but not floral light vanilla. The ginger didnt last long on me, which Im okay with since Im not a fan. I definitely get osmanthus and vanilla flower (rather than vanilla). THe golden musk is not heavy, I dont get much musk from this at all. I dont get sticky honey, this is the lighter almost floral/pollen kind. All in All, this ones a keeper!

Black Pearl - Coconut, Florentine iris, hazelnut and opalescent white musk.

Anyone know scents similar to Falling Leaf Moon? I've worn it for three days straight and I expect I will continue to wear it often once the honeymoon phase is over.November is similar to the base of FLM. It smells like FLM without the apple cider to my nose

I've been pining for a good white musk scent, and this one is pretty good =) I get a stronger sense of this while its wet -- the sweetpea and lily and the white musk strong, and maybe the sharp edge is heliotrope. The dry fragrance is much more subtle though. I get mostly sweetpea and white musk, very very soft. BPAL's dont tend to last very long on my skin - usually about 2 hours. This one has been on about 30 minutes so far. The other wrist has Dirty, and they are surprisingly similar at this stage.
-
this goes on super sweet for me -- sweeter than Dirty or Wensleydale (my other linen experiences), but relaxes into a very nice linen/woody scent

I love Judith Victorious, so I try all things with chestnut in them. Chestnut plus rice and magnolia? Sounded like pure win. But on my skin, its like oil and water., The warm soft chestnut and rice and the cold clean mix of everything else. Im not swapping it off yet, because Im convinced this should be gorgeous. Im a little sick still, so maybe its my chemistry.
eta my dry impressions:
dry this fragrance finally comes together. THere are still momens when the chestnut is all FOODY, but the fragrance is mostly cool magnolia and im guessing geranium, with a warm base underneath it all. YAY I do like, and may consider a bottle after further testing and a Judith side by side.
Lime!

Mr Nancy has lovely lime hints, but maybe not as strong as youre hoping Try the new Echatl or whatever it is, and maybe Envy, and Mock Turtle's Lessons.
