I just received my decants, and this is one of the first ones I went for because I was very intrigued by the concept. In the vial it smells like sweet, dry cocoa powder with a hint of golden amber underneath. Very nice. On my skin it turns awful. My boyfriend said (and I quote), "It's kinda poopy smelling." Um, yeah. I swear I'm not dating a 8-year-old boy. Anyway, it does remind me of sort of an odd, organic smell that is quite unpleasant. Not necessarily feet or B.O. or anything specific, just a bit...unwashed. But it smelled very nice beforehand and other people don't seem to be getting that reaction, so clearly my skin chemistry is doing something extremely odd with it.

Chocolate and Cocoa, in every combination possible

Thanks for all the recs, guys! I'll definitely be putting in an imp order and keeping an eye out on the swaps forums for some of these. Midnight Kiss in particular sounds promising, it has some other notes my boyfriend likes in it. -
Chocolate and Cocoa, in every combination possible

I'm resurrecting a long-dead thread for my own selfish purposes. My boyfriend really loves the initial dark cocoa scent in Boomslang, but that disappears too quickly and the subsequent sweet-spicy Snake Oil drydown is a little too girly for him. I'm looking to find an intensely chocolate scent that is suitably manly for his delicate masculine sensibilities. The obvious choice seems like it would be Wulric the Wolfman (cocoa absolute, French vanilla, birch tar, lavender, bourbon vetiver, wild musk, clary sage, and cistus), but I'm concerned about the vetiver, which turns up smelling like burned peanuts in every blend I've ever tried with it. I'm going to be on the lookout for a decant on the sales forum, but are there any other dude-appropriate chocolate/cocoa blends I should try on him? GC would be spectacular, but LE is fine too. We've already tried Tezcatlipoca (too much patchouli after it dries) and Centzon Totochtin (cedar shavings and cheap chocolate). Thanks for any help! -
I was so disappointed in this one! I wanted to like it so very badly, as it was recommended as a "spicy" scent, which I've been dying for. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work on me. Wet, it smelled like a much less complex Bastet, without Bastet's oddly smoky undertone that I love so much. Dry, it smelled like a much less complex Bastet with a hint of wet paper towels. Yeah, I don't understand that either.

I was initially attracted to Anne Bonny after looking up her story on Wikipedia--I just had to try it! Unfortunately, in the imp, wet, and dry this is pure, unadulterated sandalwood to my nose. I'd love to give a more detailed review, but I have nothing to add to that. I know there must be a lovely patchouli in there somewhere, so I'm going to let it age for a few months before I decide if it's worth keeping.

Sweet vanilla with just the barest hint of florals underneath. So long-lasting that I can smell it clearly the morning after I apply it. This is an excellent bedtime scent--it's unbelievably soothing. Even though I wouldn't say it's one of my very favorites, I find myself reaching for it more often than almost any other scent just because I like to wear it to bed so much. Also, my boyfriend loves any and all vanilla scents, so I wear to please him just as often as myself.
