I really wanted to like this (Wilde of the Prince and the Swallow fairytale = love), but it was just a generic masculine cologne on me....
-
This scent turned me in a marble. ...a round, resinous, yet slightly juicy. marble. It was disconcerting, and so I swapped it away.
-
This scent was heavy heavy heavy on me. Very thick and lots of almond, and it was a little too much. I only tried it on once, though, and now I wish I hadn't swapped it so quickly. I'm always one for giving things second chances.... ETA: Oh! Oh! Sixthsentinel generously frimped me with Dana O'Shee and it's pure love this time around! It's pure cheap almond soap in the vial, but quickly turns creamy. Very soon, I get a bowl of thick, creamy milk with honey and slivers of almond slices. Sooo good! I'm very frugral with my applications, but even after I swiped my wrist 3xs the amount I usually do, the scent is very light, no throw at all. That's fine with me, though: I like my scents to keep close to me and not bother other people.

On initial application: CEDAR OMG CEDAR! A minute later: PENCIL SHAVINGS DO YOU FEEL NOSTALGIC FOR 4TH GRADE??

Yum! When it's wet, it's just...yum! Reminds me of an asian candy when I was really little. The pineapple and banana pop out, but they're very well blended; then when I lift my nose away, I get the creamy edges of tropical coconut. I'm not getting any apples, sadly. =( During the middle stage, I get something a little spicier--must be the chili pepper. When it dries down, the base is creamy with a scent like dried pineapples and juicier fruit laid over the top. There's also a sharper smell that must be the lingering chili. Love!

At first, it's definitely like what the description says--a little earthy, with a high note of dry hay that's slightly sweet. As it dries down though, it's mostly patchouli on me. Okay--that was last time. This time: sweet! The description says: "The scent of a hot wind blowing through desolate, scorched, barren fields." More like a fertile, happy field! It's definitelyl autumnal in feel, no fresh green grass, but the stacks of hay are sweet, and the soil is definitely ready to be harvested. A little floral, too. I'm not getting the patchouli this time.

This went complete plastic on my skin, and it was very sad. In the bottle, it smelled delicious, and I wish I'd kept it longer to try and use it for other things.
-
At first it's a deep cherry that has a dark base, with something more sharp on the surface--a little herbal, smells like myrrh, which is probably the combination of clove and vetiver. That quickly fades. It gets less fruity, but it's still a little sweet--I'm getting a lot of honey! and vanilla and spice, with a flowered edge. For most of Blood Kiss's life, it's a slightly spicy honey note with a slightly grainy, generic BPAL spice/musk smell, if you know what I mean from Snake Oil or O. It's really gorgeous, though--the slightly viscous, golden smell of the honey really glows on top of the darker base. It dries to a vanilla-spice-honey musk that lies close to the skin. ADDED Aug. 21: I used to amp the vetiver in this so it wasn't that great, but lately, on re-trying, it smells like jasmine milk tea. Milky with honey and sweetness. Reminds of a lighter Voodoo.

Smells like a candle on me. =( No juicy fruits, but the second-hand fruit-and-spice scent that you get around the holidays.

Oh wow. I've had Bastet a while now, and I absolutely love it. I just put some on, and the smell is drastically different from when I last put it on (last night, to sleep). Usually, Bastet is a lighter, higher honeyed almond-spice grounded with amber after it's settled on my skin. Now...now, when I put it on now. :swoon: The almond has drastically retreated, and this beautiful blend of other notes has taken over, and it's richer, deeper. It's smoother, with a different type of throw to it--less top-note heavy. Hormones, I really hate you most of the time, but thanks for this one treasure during this frankly hellish month you've put me through.

BPALs that smell like Urban Decay perfumes?
cinderfallen replied to Nepthys's topic in Recommendations
Hm, I was wondering about Pele in comparison to Pistol. In any case, Pele's on the way so I'll get to sample its loveliness. =) (And yikes, thirty dollars for Pistol? It's a bit steep. lol, getting used to BPAL's affordability...) -
BPALs that smell like Urban Decay perfumes?
cinderfallen replied to Nepthys's topic in Recommendations
I was at Sephora today and caught a whiff of Urban Decay's Pistol. Mhmm! I'm pretty new to perfume and what I like--and I liked. =) So I was wondering if anyone on the forum could recommend me something similar to Pistol (yeah, you could see this coming.) (I was *really* surprised to see that Pistol was a floral-based--Didn't really smell like a heavy floral. I have a very uneducated nose, ehe.) -
:Snffffff: Jasmine. With a hint of sharper herbs. Yeap. It's all right. I was frightened of the earth and incense anyway.
-
Wet, it's thick rose with something just a little sharper to keep the flower from being too heavy. Then again--there's the headiness; lush deep flowers. Rose and jasmine, mhmm. It gets lighter, sheerer, very quickly; more of the lemon tartness (though none of the actual scent). I still smell some of the rose but it's more blended. And mhmm, wow. Now it has some watery undertones to the scent. The waterlily? I can't catch really the rose individually anymore. It's blended to become a sweet flower note. There's a hint of spices to this scent. Heady to crisp to watery spice. Cool.

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)
cinderfallen replied to Vanilla's topic in Recommendations
I just got some Demon in the Dark the other day, but I thought the apple would be more apparent.... Does anything in the BPAL catalogue remind you of this scent? Because apples+mint sounds....mhmmm! -
Dublin and Bathsheba are on my "what next to order" list. =) Though I was expecting Dublin to have a more "blended" scent--that is, whiffs of pine but not overwhelmingly so? How is it with you? And I'm really looking forward to the plum in Bathsheba... Mhmm. And Blood Amber sounds quite nice... Can't wait until it...and really, all of the oils I've ordered comes. Everyone made such nice points about each scent. =) I have no problem with fruity scents (I actually like them), it's just the incense/food notes I have problems with. (Somehow, fruit scents don't constitute as "food!!" to me.) And O... Strangely, I tried on Japanese Musk at the Body Shop and the scent that lingered was *exactly* the same as O's. Well, perhaps the sweetness was from the Fuzzy Peach.... And Snow White... It doesn't seem like I'll be able to get my hands of a sample, it having such a cult following; it does sound lovely, though. I have this fear that when BPAL comes that I'll be somehow let down, so I'm really trying to restrain myself from ordering more until my first shipment comes... Then it'll be another month and a half of waiting... (How horribly hard is *that*?) :sigh: But here's my first order: 1 Szepasszony 2 Alice 3 Water of Notre Dame 4 Lady of Shalott 5 White Rabbit 6 Neo-Tokyo 7 Dirty 8 Ingenue (sob! discontinued, I found out last minute. Changed to Verdandi.) 9 Kitsune-Tsuki 10 Oberon 11 Queen Mab 12 Bewitched 13 Bastet 14 Blood Amber 15 Gluttony (For a friend who *adores* dessert scents.) 16 Sudha Segara *17 Wilde *18 Pele * Part of a birthday present package for a friend.... (Which will constitute of a few other imps I uh... *ahem* wish to pass along. ) I want to spread this obsesssion; so much fun. =)

BWA! Thank you all so much! I ended up ordering from the recs mentioned on this thread: Alice Szepasszony Dirty Bastet Blood Amber Sudha Segara Pele Queen Mab (I mean, just from this thread alone, I had to order a set of imps... Three sets in all... Coming probably a few weeks after my birthday, on the 20th.) But I am *definitely* going to keep in mind/order the rest of what you guys suggested! (And, lol. Please keep the recs coming. Thanks again so much!
-
Mhmm... Bathsheba is definitely going on my next order. And amazingly, you made cherry sound wearable (I always think of sticky cherry lollipops and cough medicine...). Dracul sounds a bit intimidating... But I might try an imp to dab on male friends. Ehehe. Thanks for such nice suggestions. =)

Guh. So many delicious-sounding scents. Thank you all for such great suggestions! I put it all in my wishlist for further perusal, lol. And hmm... Regarding Bastet: how "incensy" is it? Say, on a scale from Pottery Barn to Pangea/One Earth/Hippy Store Central? Blood Amber and Bathsheba sound really...lush. And Coyote and Velvet and... Now I really want to try the Black Broom to see if they carry any of these! How dare they carry only 90 of these creations! Has anyone tried Dirty? The description made it sounds really...nice. =) I couldn't get a really accurate feel for it in the review section though--I was imagining the natural smell of sun-dried sheets--but apparently...plumeria? Citrus? I'm easing into warmer scents--or really, perfume in general, and your comments helped so much. You enablers, you. I love this forum--it's a feast for the senses, yum. And keep the recommendations comin', by all means.

Dear Lord, did you *smell* it?? That stuff is incredible! It's what Demeter's "Dirt" wishes it was! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It was *pungent* and just whoa. I was amazed because it really did have the rich dark soil smell *down*--but I didn't have the courage to actually try it out. I dunno...it might be a nice scent to freak people out: "Hey... :sniffsniff: Gardening...? Gravedigging...? Spring, what have you been doing?

I found a scent called Graveyard Dirt at the Black Broom...but I can't find a mention of it anywhere. Is my mind just playing tricks on me? (I just wanted to know why someone would like smelling of graveyard dirt. =)
