Olfactory caffeine: Wake up, Stay Awake with BPAL

Just reviving this thread to note that the scent association I seem to have built with Auntie Caroline's Joy Mojo seems to be perfect for getting me up first thing. I managed to stagger out of bed at 4.45 this morning, having used the proven half-asleep method: close-eyes so nothing splashes into them, dab oil on a wrist, snuggle until the lovely smell gives me the push I need to get out of bed. I really shoule try a few, but the brightness of Auntie Caroline, which fades into sweet heliotrope - which I've since discovered that I adore - seems to do the trick for me. I do promise to review it later this week; I have hardly written any reviews, and I think it's time to give back to the forums as well as taking...
  2. I notice clover made this association a few months ago, but I just had to mention that Snow white and Szepasszony share at least one note. whatever the interpretation of rain is, it's very strong in Snow White, and only appears as Szepasszony starts to dry. I spotted the similarity because this is the note that turned Snow White plastic on me; however, it's quite bearable in Szepasszony in that must-prod-sore-tooth kind of way...

    Discussion of all things Amber

amber doesn't work on me, particularly Brisinagamen - which is very much amber on me - and I suspect that Blood Amber is also heavy on the amber. Ditto Haunted. HTH
  4. this is sad, but I loooove the smell of Lush's Crashcourse in Skincare bio-mask- avocado and lemons are on the ingredients list; but I can't find any BPAL with avocado matching...

    Gluttony

I reckoned this might be too sweet for me, but... what's that smell?? have you ever smelled Yankee Tart Hazelnut Coffee? This was my first Yankee Tart experience, a votive candle, oh, about five years ago. this starts out smelling just like that. sweet, nutty, coffee. it's a little darker; oh I know why - it's the end of the candle and the wick has just blown out, so you can smell the waxy candle smoke... this may make a great room scent almost an hour later I's got sweet chocolatey pencil sharpenings. even sweeter than velvet. and there's sandalwood in this somewhere.... ETA - I hadn't read aritei's post before I wrote mine, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one making this scent association!

    Veil

violets! Parma violets at that. After a while, a few other notes are coming through very subtly, lavender, etc. Oddly I can then smell burned sandalwood- what's that all about?! Then parma violets again with occasionally the dry dry note of white sandalwood. I was hoping to love this one, but I've discovered that violets don't do a thing for me

    Dragon's Milk

I've read many of the reviews which have helped me a lot in selecting oils - thank you to everyone who posts their thoughts! this is the first time I'll be posting one of mine.... At the start I get that cherry/spicy sweetness that is dragon's blood - not too keen so far. After an hour it's morphed through various stages: * plastic play-dough effect + vanilla + bitter almonds thing going on - sort of like ice-cream flavoured chewy sweets * smoky vanilla sweetness * slightly plastic slightly cherry vanilla * smoking almonds n vanilla to a vanilla which is alternately smooth and slightly almondy. It may well morph again, and will undoubtedly get sweeter and more vanilla throughout the day. However, given that I still have to wait over an hour for the vanilla dry-down I love, and I really don't like dragon's blood much, I think this loses out to Tombstone for the vanilla prize. 6 hours after applying : I can still smell sweet vanilla goodness if I sniff my wrist. but it doesn't have the depth or last as long as Tombstone. Tombstone wins...

Olfactory caffeine: Wake up, Stay Awake with BPAL

Well, I tried Auntie Caroline's Joy Mojo yesterday morning - citrus-y sweetness - on my hand when the alarm went, and I did indeed get out of my bed. That might have had something to do with not wanting to miss my flight, but still strong enough to wake me up, faded quickly enough that I couldn't even smell it anymore after my shower after such a long day yesterday, today's experiment isn't as scientific, but still... Snoozed through about an hour, then dabbed on some Embalming Fluid - green tea - i was still too lazy to get out of bed, but did get up long enough to open the curtains before snuggling back up to carry on reading the rest of 'Aces High'.... so... Auntie Caroline - success! Embalming Fluid - not enough to get me going But I still need to try both again to confirm my findings Edited to add - my sense of smell is completely dead when I wake up, and I need to blow my nose vigorously once I get up in order to have a functioning nose, so my rather one-dimensional descriptions of the above scents is a result of that. feline.by.design - I've added Mad Hatter to my list; thanks! I have to admit that I tend to look out especially for your reviews (and a few other people's) because from some of your reviews, I've noticed that our taste overlaps a fair bit. Please keep reviewing stuff!

Olfactory caffeine: Wake up, Stay Awake with BPAL

Hi, Having read the Bedtime BPAL thread, and taken lots of notes of people's suggestions, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for specific BPAL oils that have the same effect as sipping a large espresso with your eyes still closed? not coffee-smelling, just waking you up for the day, to tempt you out from underneath warm sleepy cuddly duvet. Looking at the reviews for the Jabberwocky, I suspect this might be a good one, especially as it fades after 1-3 hours leaving one free to choose another oil for the day once you're ready to face the world! Any other suggestions? Thanks! Galen PS - I did look for related threads, but the closest I could find was this one which is general day-facing quality of bpal oils...

    Similar to Vivienne Westwood Boudoir?

Thanks, fallow deer; nice to see there are others who like it; it's the most rich, complex department store fragrance I've liked so far; I have a 2.5ml handbag-sized spray which I occasionally use - much easier to use up imp-size perfume than get bored of a full-size bottle Anyway... Completely unexpectedly, I've found that elusive note I was referring to - or one pretty close to it! - in, of all places, Tushnatamay! No-one seems to have completely figured out what's in tushnamatay though, so it's not helping me isolate what THAT SMELL IS. Meanwhile, enjoying Tushnatamay very much...

    Similar to Vivienne Westwood Boudoir?

No, no, I don't want the same fragrance! I just want that elusive note that tickles my nose, and um, other parts...

    Similar to Vivienne Westwood Boudoir?

Macha - it does indeed help - thank you very much! Hopefully I'll be able to hunt down this elusive fragrance by process of elimination if nothing else I checked my 'new to BPAL, must try every imp that appeals' wishlist, and funnily enough, all of the ones you mention - except Tamora - are on my list

    Similar to Vivienne Westwood Boudoir?

I used to wear Dior's Dolce Vita, and on me, it had a really spicy musky base note that made me think of, well, naughty things! I recently tried on Vivienne Westwood boudoir, and it seems to have a similar basenote... I was trying to do some detective work as to what the culprit is, using the fragrance descriptions which I found online: dolce vita ...This feminine scent possesses a blend of magnolia, rose, cinnamon, peach, apricot, and bottom notes of vanilla and sandalwood. boudoir Scent Type: Oriental - Green Top Notes: Viburnum, marigold, orange blossom, orris Heart Notes: Red rose, cinnamon, coriander, cardamom Base Notes: Amber, vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli I don't know... Rose, cinnamon, vanilla and sandalwood come up in both lists, so it could be one of them, or the combination. Any suggestions for a BPAL scent with a similar brand of sexiness??
