Stunning! I am a huge fan of Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo, and this is like a less-bakey version of that. ACJM can occassionally be too sickly sweet if I'm not in the right mood for it, but this is a lighter, fresher more aquatic version, if you see what I mean? I get what everyone else says about the watermelon, but as it is drying down my skin is absolutely amping up a red fruity berry scent. All the time remaining aquatic too! There is the tartness of the melon underneath still, which is what I think stops it from getting sickly. This is THE perfect summer day scent. Perfect for those days when you want to feel carefree and happy. I have no idea what this oil is supposed to do, but it makes me smile - that is enough

    Aeval

In the vial: Pure sweetpea. I like sweet pea, but I have to be in the right mood. Sometimes it smells a bit like paint on me (but not as much so as SN Apple Blossom ) On Wet: still heavy on the sweet pea. A couple of minutes later: The sweet pea isn't as sharp now. There is something underneath it. Not sure what yet. Something warmer. Could that be tonka (I'm not familiar with it Still definately identifyable as sweet pea though. No herbs as of yet, which is a shame as I think it would round the scent out more. Will update when I have worn it longer.

This is a cross between Carnal and Vice for me. But without the Yankee Candle synthetic smell of Carnal, and without the weird chocolate note of Vice. What also hit me was how it would make a great fruity more playful substitute for Succubus. I love Succubus with all my heart, and this is quite simply the same but with fruit. Its strange, sometimes I sniff I get all fruit, juicy and ripe. Then I get the the very distinctive scent of neroli. Sometimes I get a whiff of Vice (which I do NOT like). Wet on my skin it is more neroli, with some juicy ripe fruit underneath. Then as it dries a little the fruit comes to the surface. I can't tell what the fruit is, because sometimes it smells like raspberry, then sometimes it smells of orange. Every now and again I get a hint of the neroli lurking underneath, and I agree with the posters above who say it makes this scent 'dark'. I like that. Neroli often gives an almost sharp-yet-smoky note to things that I have learned to love over time. It is worth noting that the 3 scents do stay distinct in this blend, and do not merge to create one indescribable scent. I can smell neroli, I can smell orange, and I can smell raspberry. This is a cheery scent, regardless of the 'darkness' in there. I just wish I didn't keep getting the odd whiff of Vice. I really don't like Vice. I will have to wear this again, and not when I am just sat at home all day like today, to see if I like it enough to get it again. There are others I like more, but this is nice.

    Bathsheba

In the imp: Strange, almost like I can smell each of the notes seperately in here. I try to ignore what an oil smells like in the imp/bottle though as it always changes on my skin. So, onwards ... Wet: This is all about the plum! I am best at describing scents by comparing them to others I am afraid, so that is what I shall do here. At this wet stage on my skin it is Midwinter's Eve but without the crystaline almost fizzy quality to the plum. That means it isn't quite as tooth-achingly sweet as ME, but a softer representation. Dry: The plum has melted into the background, and whilst I can still smell it, the carnation and musk have stepped forward, hand in hand, to create a really beautiful warmth and depth, with a touch of spice. This isn't a really complex scent, I can actually pick out individual notes in it (although I would be clueless if I didn't have the ingredients written infront of me ), but I think that is why it is so lovely. At this stage it smells like a slightly less biting Samhain. I like to wear Samhain with Lush's new lotion Skin Sin, but I actually think Bathsheba would go better with it. Actually, I would describe Bathsheba exactly as Samhain meets Midwinter's Eve meets Skin Sin. It is totally drool-worthy and I NEED a bottle of this. For all of you missing Samhain, I think this would be a worthy replacement. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

    Pink Moon 2005

When I got this in the mail this morning I sniffed the bottle and got strawberry. When I got home from work tonight and sniffed the bottle I got something alcohol-y and a bit 'wrong'. I just put it on and got a near-total clone of Velvet! Where did that come from? It has been on about 10 minutes now and that boozy sense I get from Velvet is disappearing and the strawberry is coming out. It smells a lot pinker now. I still get the Velvet undertone though. It is like a base of Velvet with a hunk of syrup-sweet strawberry on top. Nice so far but I am not sure it is really me. I will give it time to mature on my skin and update how I feel after that.

Just thought I would update incase anyone was interested , I did email in the end, but actually because I thought I made a boo boo with my paypal account. But anyway, Kennedy got back to me swiftly and let me know they did get my order and all was ok. I the lab and all who sail in her.

    Succubus

I got this as a frimp in an ebay auction I won. This was on my wishlist anyway though. Straight away I get neroli. Neroli on my skin either goes to a beautiful soft orange that I absolutely love, or it goes more of a bitter soapy scent. This is what I get in this. I imagined it to be more juicy, but soft and ethereal at the same time. That is the image I get from mimosa and neroli. I didn't get that though. Wet on the skin this is sharp and scary. As it mellows and dries the bitter neroli comes out. For Lushies out there, this smells EXACTLY like the new Its a Pleasure, Treasure massage bar smells on me. It couldn't get closer actually. And I have a love/hate relationship with that too! This isn't one I would buy again, but I will no dount use up my frimp as and when I use the massage bar

    Val Sans Retour

I got this as a frimp in an ebay auction I won this morning. My nose must be really wonky because all I get is apples and pears! I do admit, they are green and woody apples and pears. This is quite aquatic for me, but still quite tart at first. It mellows down to a more rounded apple and pear scent for me. Maybe it is pine I am smelling, I haven't really smelled it in a bpal oil before. Wow this is really difficult without the ingredients in front of me. This isn't the sort of scent I go for. I prefer warm, sweet scents, and this is crisp and green. I can see how others would love it though. It does seem a little one-dimensional to me. Maybe it is just my wonky nose

I think what I am going to do is see what happens after I place my Pink Moon order (y first Lunacy Blend - how excited am I ). If I get a seperate confirmation email from the lab for that one then I will more than likely drop them a quick email to confirm they got my first order. If I get nothing from the Pink Moon order I won't bother and assume they got both.

    Alice

Curiouser and curiouser. Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot. Oh how I love thee Alice I thought I had already reviewed this beautiful little gem of a scent, but obviously not, so here goes ... Wet on my skin this is amazing spicy carnation, with something creamy and deep behind it. I say deep, but there is a freshness too. Milk and honey - I didn't really know what to expect from that, but it is just that. Like a big pan of condensed milk on the stove with honey and a touch of sugar mixed in and melted. But on a spring or summers day. This for me is not a warm wintery scent, but a fresh yet warm spring-like or summery scent. Dry on my skin this loses some of the sharp spiciness and mellows to a powdery finish. You know you can get powdered milk, well powdered milk and honey in a tub when you have just popped the lid for the first time would smell like this. I can still definately smell the carnation too. I think I get some rose too, but it doesn't overpower the blend, which I am glad of. I love Lush's Potion. I drool like a rabid dog over it. I can't stop smelling myself when I have it on. Alice has exactly the same effect on me. To me, it is the most perfect, beautiful, dainty, special and whimsical scent I have ever had the pleasure to try. I wish I was this scent. I am considering calling my firstborn Alice purely because of this scent. Even if he is a boy! Then I would sell said firstborn in order to buy more. (You think I am joking?) I am so thankful I bought 5ml of this unsniffed. I will definately be ordering 10ml with my next order.

Thanks both of you. I wish there was a consistant policy on that, but I do understand that the lab is extremely busy and no doubt very hectic as their popularity grows. I will just wait it out and if I have still not heard anything by the end of May drop them an email.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I certainly didn't want to start a new thread or waste Beth and everyone's time by emailing them, but: I am quite new to Paypal and have only used it a handful of times. I used it to place my first bpal order a week or so ago. The money came out straight away. No problem. I was wondering if we get confirmatio from the lab that they received our order though. I haven't had anything, other than in my paypal account info it showing that the transfer has been made - which would have happened automatically anyway. I just didn't know whether confirmation from the lab was or was not to be expected, and since I have not had any should I be worried or is that normal? Thank you.

    Morocco

Wow, I don't really know what to say about this one. It is probably the most complex scent I have tried yet, but at the same time is really quite simple. I am the queen of paradoxisms It is warm, yet dry. It is like spices layed out to dry in baking hot sun. And then those spices have been stirred into a glass of warm milk and honey. This is the scent I would wear on a hot afternoon when exploring some beautiful and remote little village in somewhere like Morocco. Ok, so I have never actually been anywhere like that or done anything like that in my life, but if I ever decide to I will take my bpal Morocco with me It is a grown-up scent. It feels like a self-assured strong woman. Not a posh, dressed to the nines in a business suit type of woman, but the slightly bohemian layed back strong woman I want to be when I grow up (heck, I'm nearly 27 - but I'll get there one day). This is a really fabulous scent. I will wear it all year round but think it will definately come into its own in summer. Again, another unsniffed 5ml I am happy I purchased

    Dragon's Milk

I haven't tried Dragon's Blood before so have nothing to compare this with. However, here goes... Wet on the skin this smells very floral. The poster above who assumed their's was a fuck up might not be right, maybe their skin just hypes up the floral, I don't know. Anyway - wet and immediately after drydown I like this but am not crazy for it. Now it has had over 1/2 hour to mellow I really love it! Now I get honey and cherry (almond) and a touch of spice. It is like a spicier Dana O'Shee to me. A more grown up version of it maybe. It is actually a pretty scent. I usually only say that about overtly floral scents, and although this does still retain a teeny tiny touch of the floral I originally smelled in it, I wouldn't describe it as a floral scent at all. It is creamy and smells mellow. I like it very much. Another 5ml unsniffed purchase gone well

    Dana O'Shee

In the bottle I get lots of almonds, but not that cherry almond that Bastet has in the bottle. On me this is pure unadulterated Lush Smitten Handcream. I know the analogy of choice is Lush Snowcake soap, and indeed Smitten was made to mimick that. But Smitten doesn't have the floral note that Snowcake has, and neither does Dana O'Shee. However, Smitten can have a tendancy to be a little 'potatoey' on my skin. Dana O'Shee isn't. It is really really lovely. I don't know about it's staying power yet as I only recently applied it (1 hour ago) but it is still there. By its lightness, however, I think it is one I may have to apply liberally. Because of it being in the Snowcake family I see it as a Christmas scent. But I think it would also be nice anytime a soft, clean yet warm and friendly scent was needed. Glad I went for the 5ml unsniffed on this one. Lovely.

    Vice

This is strange. After reading all the reviews on here I expected more chocolate. In the Bottle: I know there is chocolate there but it is a perfumey chocolate. Chocolate and flowers - nice to receive as a gift, but do they really go well together as a perfume? On my skin, wet it is pretty much the same. Quite overpowering actually. I am a bit disappointed with this. On my skin, dry it isn't quite as overpowering. OK, so I can smell the chocolate at the base of this, but not a true chocolate, still something dare I say synthetic about it. I get more floral (definately the orange blossom - I usually either get orange from orange blossom, which I love, or I get floral, which I am not so excited about) than cherry. In fact, if I didn't know there was black cherry in there I wouldn't have guessed. I was kind of nonplussed about this one, so I asked dh to smell it. Now, he isn't exactly a conisseur of scents, so I was expecting little more than a 'eghhh' in reply (which is accompanied by either a wrinkling of the nose or a shrug). I asked him what he thought it smelled like because I was having real trouble getting any chocolate. He immediately said it smelled like the chocolate part of my Soft Coeur massage bar! (except he said 'that chocolate scrubby bar thing' ). You know what, he is right. It is that, but with floral orange blossom. That comment made me view it in a better light. Actually as I type this it is mellowing more and I get more chocolate. It reminds me of the chocolate honey-goodness in the chocolate heart of soft coeur and the orange blossom weirdness in the new Lush Its a Pleasure, Treasure massage bar. A peculiar scent, but one I will not give up on.

    Carnal

I'm starting this review out by saying I had no idea what fig would smell like. I guess I know now because I am having a hard time finding any mandarin in there. I don't think I like this. Not on me anyway. You know what it smells of? It smells of a Christmas Glade airfreshner I got a couple of years ago. Exactly like it. I don't mind my house smelling of that at Christmas, but I don't really want me smelling of it the rest of the year. This is the first oil I have had that screams a colour at me. That colour is a deep berry red. Boy, the more I sniff this the more I am reminded of being down the airfreshner isle at the supermarket. I will wait till I get some chocolatey scents and try layering to see what happens then, but otherwise this may be off to the swap pile. You know what, I was just thinking, it smells like a slightly warmer and darker version of the Cranberry Chutney Yankee Candle votive I got over Christmas. Again, nice as a room fragrance, at Christmas, but not on my skin.

    Black Pearl

At first I get coconut and white musk. It isn't a combination that seems to work to me. Then, I get coconut and iris, with the musk moving back, but still there. I don't like this much. However, next, the more it dries and has time to warm on my skin, I get creamy coconut and I can smell the hazelnut behind it giving it a really nice roundness. However, the mix of white musk and iris make my nose a bit itchy. If this was just coconut and hazelnut I think I would be in heaven. As it is, it is too perfumey for me. I will be interested to layer it with chocolate scents though, to see if that helps bring forward the hazelnut at all. It is nice, but too perfumey. The perfumey-ness is powdery. I don't much like powdery. Boo.

    Jezebel

I am still too new to BPAL to be able to pick out specific notes I think, but the best way I can think to describe Jezebel is 'heady'. This oil feels like it needs to be worn in a club at night when you are dressed up to the nines. I don't go to clubs and rarely dress like I would. I don't know if Jezebel is for me. Which is sad as the description sounded perfect. This is a warm smell, but like the poster at the top of this page, I too smell something vaguely baby-powderish. I am thinking it might be the rose, because Alice does the same to me, but I have come to like that about Alice. I don't know if I will with Jezebel. I smell floral, but not straight rose. It must be the orange blossom having an effect. It isn't an unpleasant smell, but it isn't necessarily one I would be attracted to. I won't swap this straight away. I have my first order from BPAL to wait for (only placed yesterday) and a few others to try that I got with this one from The Imphouse, so I will wait until my nose becomes more adjusted to BPAL to make a decision. Actually, as I sniff more, on my right wrist I get more powder, on my left I get more orange blossom, but not a nice orange blossom, it must be the rose. Hmmm. Final Verdict: Officially undecided

    Bastet

This is my first BPAL review, and along with Alice that I also received today, my first BPAL scent EVER! I am so excited. Right, down to business, first I should mention its not a great time for me to try BPAL for the first time as I am in that stage of a cold where I can't smell the true scent of things, so this may be off, but I will edit when I can smell again. In the Bottle: Almond. Pure almond. Luckily, I quite like almond as a scent, but have never really worn it as a perfume. Something slightly spicy underneath it, but mainly just a ton of almond. Wet: The almond fades very quickly. There is a warmth, and I would describe it as golden, definately. I don't know what cardamom or saffron really smell like, but there is a touch of a spicy sharpness present. Dry: A bit more powdery now. Still golden, but more like a golden desert sunset wrapped in velvet and silk than the sharper, dreamy desert afternoon seen through chiffon in its wet stage. I only have Alice (currently on other wrist) to compare it to at the moment, but it certainly isn't as strong. But, remember, I have a cold and that could be having a big effect. Overall: I do really like this. It is comforting yet there is something sexy about it too. I am glad I went and got that 5ml bottle unsniffed now
