On me, this is a fruity musk scent. I get a lot of the dark musk from it. My imp is nicely aged and maybe that's why I get more dark musk than fruit. I get a touch of the citrus-y grapefruit when it's still in the early stages but the red currant quickly becomes the more dominant fruit. I love all the Mad Tea party blends and this one is very evocative of the Cheshire Cat. Lovely!

Lots of almond and something herbal like mint and maybe some kind of floral. I find it difficult to pick out notes in the voodoo blends unless they really stand out like the almond. This is pretty spicy and I'm interested to see how my significant other reacts to it! This one isn't for the faint of heart as it's pretty strong and packs quite a punch!

An intense freshly cut red rose. This is much greener than The Peacock Queen, much younger and fresher and while the Peacock Queen is haughty and regal, Rose Red is more of a rush, if that makes sense. The two Yule roses are absolutely gorgeous and truly wearable. Rose Red has an almost citrusy undertone and is slightly damp. You can picture this rose with her fresh green stem and dew still clinging to her velvet petals.

This is so beautiful. It is all lemony candy violets! It smells like the most delcious sweets with a tart note and that gorgeous BPAL violet which I adore is surrounding it like a perfect cloud. Underneath it all is that hint of chimney dust making it just magical since only BPAL could make something with chimney dust in it smell like some kind of heavenly confection. I think I need another bottle!

2007 version: This is a stunning, haughty rose in full bloom. She knows her power and how to use it well. Quite possibly the most beautiful rose scent I have ever worn or smelled.

2007 version: So now I understand what all the fuss is about. This is very soft in the bottle but a few minutes after applying, it becomes quite strong with a lot of throw and shows no signs of fading. It starts off as a soft white floral but now, about an hour after applying, it has become this absolutely gorgeous scent that is indeed reminiscent of Lush's Snowcake but much better. I can't pick out individual notes because it's so perfectly blended together. On me, it's a creamy almond-y white floral, very soft and not green in the least and I don't get any ozone or mintiness. I truly can't even describe this scent except to say how much I love it. I do not get any playdoh or burnt rubber whatsoever.

2007 version: This smells like the celebration it honors. It's full of sweet, fruity wine with a smoky background of incense and you can just imagine the scene of what this festival would have been like. It is a very intoxicating blend, as it should be, and I imagine that offeratory cake notes will come out after it's been on my skin for a while. It's not an overly boozy scent since you get more of the wine grapes than the wine itself. The frankincense is starting to emerge and I have a feeling this will age absolutely beautiful.

This smells exactly like a candy cane. It's like Beth liquified candy canes and poured them into the bottles. It's very strong, in a good way, and has a huge throw. A little goes a long, long way. I can faintly detect the vanilla underneath and I'm thinking once some time has passed and it mellows out, the vanilla will come a bit more into the forefront. This is a great Winter yuletime scent. Beth, you're a genius!

I got this as a frimp from the Lab and was pretty excited. In the imp and right after applying, it strongly reminded me of Blood Kiss. It has that same sticky sweet blood scent, and I'm thinking it's the wine note. On the drydown, a lovely grape note started to emerge, somewhat reminiscent of Lady Macbeth. Now, about 30 minutes after applying, it's a smoky sweet wine scent with the red musk-y understone. As I'm typing, the cocoa is starting to emerge. It is truly a classic red musk scent but the smoky cocoa wine scent really makes this one what it is.

This is truly a perfect pirate scent. It's soft and so well blended that it's tough to pick out the individual notes but to me, it's conjuring up a pirate ship at sea or just docked, at nighttime, the moon on the water, softly swaying somewhere down in the tropics with the citrus and sea in the air. It's gorgeous and quite gender-neutral. It's probably not something I'd wear everyday but it's really beautiful in it's unusualness. A very calm and calming scent.

This has incredible throw. I put a tiny bit on and I'm surrounding by the scent. I was worried that the mint or lavender would overpower but this is a really well blended and beautiful scent. I got it as a frimp from the Lab with my Halloween order and I'm really glad it came because I'm not sure that I would have ordered an imp otherwise. This is a slightly dark blend and the mint is playing around a bit in the background with a touch of the citrus coming through. I love the Lab's orange blossom and this blend is no exception. It's actually difficult to pick out individual notes since this is so perfectly blended. Beth is a genius!

This is all glowing, golden amber on me, very soft and very dreamy. It has a touch of spiciness which must be the carnation. I love carnation and though amber isn't one of my top notes, I'm enjoying this blend since it's just so pretty. The amber is not overpowering but is so perfectly in tune with the other notes. The apple blossom is starting to quietly emerge and peek her head out and the scent is becoming really truly beautiful.

I got a very strong cinnamon note as it was drying on me but after a few minutes, the cinnamon has receeded into the background a bit and the patchouli has come forward. I'm not getting much amber at this point, just a lovely cinnamon and patchouli blend. It reminds me of some bubble bar that Lush had during the holidays but I can't remember the name of it. This is something I can see myself pulling out in the winter since it's a fiery blend, very worthy of a bit of hellfire.

I got this as a frimp from the Lab and I'm really glad I did. It is like a woodsy chocolate. I'm not getting much vanilla yet, mostly cocoa and the woods. I'm hoping the vanilla emerges soon because I think it will add a sweetness to this. This is definitely a warm, dark scent, I'm imagining brown velvet. As I'm writing this, the vanilla is starting to peek through. I love the Beth's blends that contain vanilla--well, I love the majority of Beth's blends--but something about BPAL's vanilla is just gorgeous and unlike most vanillas I've ever smelled. Try this one out, it's very lovely.

This is absolutely beautiful! It was on my wish list but wasn't at the top and I got it as a frimp from the Lab with my Halloween order. It's a beautiful soft flowery apricot and peach scent, very gentle yet not overly soft. I can definitely smell the white musk underneath the peach and apricot and I'm just amazed at how simply lovely this blend is. I think I might have to order a big bottle!

2007 version: In the bottle and when I initially applied this, it had a very sharp note. I'm not sure what it was--maybe the fir. It was pretty intense and I'm hoping that as this ages, that sharp note becomes less prominent when this is wet. Luckily, on the drydown, it quickly became a gorgeous spicy Autumnal scent, with the spices like nutmeg and clove really coming to forefront. After about half an hour, it became sweet and the apple notes emerged. It started off with Autumn's cool damp breezes and mellowed into a comforting spiced pumpkin smell. Now it more like a sweet spiced apple on my skin, more like some kind of dessert than apple cider.

2007 version: Immediately on applying, I got a very soft fruity scent mingling with incense but the incense quickly took over. I think as it dries, the sugared currant scent will re-emerge. This is truly evocative of compassion and mercy, it has something in it that is just really gentle. It reminds me of being in a church that has a very peaceful vibe, not an imposing vibe. The incense is beautiful and so is this blend. As I'm typing, the soul cake note is starting to emerge, intertwining with the incense. Gorgeous.

2007 version: This is a lot more spicy than I thought it would be. It smells like caramelized, brown sugary, spiciness with a hint of fruit. It's definitley a heavier Autumn scent, perfect for Halloween, and it's very warm. I'm not getting too much fruit right now (about 15 minutes after applying) but lots of burnt sugar goodness. I think this will age beautifully.

I need another bottle of this. Or another five bottles of this. This is so incredibly yummy. It's warm and creamy and the pomengranate adds a bit of a twist to it that mingles with the sweetness and doesn't make it overwhelming. This is a foodie lovers dream. It's such a beautiful and comforting scent, slightly buttery. If you are a foodie, or even if you're not, you need to try this. It's deliciousness in a bottle. Edit: After about 10 minutes, the pumpkin has come out and it now has a gorgeous spicy Autumn tinge to it. Love it.

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)

I find that Hollywood Babylon is very similar to Rock Star and Two Timing Tart. Must be the strawberry! Two Timing Tart is, sadly, discontinued. -

This is just gorgeous! In the bottle, which is lab fresh, it was a lot more green and herbal than I had expected which kind of freaked me out. I chalked it up to the freshness of the bottle. On applying, it was still pretty herbal but the honey and resin-y notes started to emerge into a creamy, incense-y delicious scent. This is totally a 'mmmmmm' scent and I've been sniffing my wrist pretty obsessively. The frankincense and honey are prominent with a creamy slightly sweet yet still herbal-y background. Exactly what an interpretation of the painting should be! -
This is very interesting and complex scent. It's got the feel of ocean spray and I can detect the spice and the faint perfume in the background. I'm not really picking up too much of the ship's wood but I love how all the notes blend together to create the feel of Port Royal. It's quite lush and lazy and it's quite a lot of spice. Not so much spiced rum, just spice. The spice is similar to that which is in Port-au-Prince so I'm thinking there might be some clove in the spices that make up spiced rum. Very nice!

This is definitely dark and decadent and incredibly spicy. I think it's more of a winter scent and for people who love spice and clove, try this one out because it's got LOTS of clove. In the imp (which was a frimp from the Lab, thank you!), I picked up a lot more of the almond and rum but as it's dried down, it's clove, clove and more clove. That's not a bad thing! It's mellowing out a bit now instead of completely taking over my surrounding area and this might work better as a room scent since it's very strong and spicy in an almost Christmas-y way. There is something heady and tropical to this scent which makes it live up to it's name.

This scent is so gentle and lovely and it actually embodies Glasgow. When it was wet, it had a lot more of the blackberry in it and now the heather is really at the forefront. It's like a mildly fruity floral and it reminds me of a breeze running through blackberry bushes with the scent of heather in the air. Very pretty, I think I might buy a big bottle of this one. I was excited to try this one and I'm glad I did!

This is happy deliciousness, definitely silliness in the extreme! This is a lovely, fluffy pink scent that smells like tart sugared strawberries. I don't pick up any sweet pea yet, thankfully, since I'm not one who can wear sweet pea. This smells like a strawberry patch and it's very yummy and uplifting. The pear adds a bit of tang and underneath that, I can pick up what I think is the vanilla bean. Yum!
