    Black Rose

This is a gorgeous sophisticated rose, very grown up and has lots of depth. It almost smells like a very expensive and luxurious perfume without that icky commercialness. This is a dark rose, true to it's name, and yet it has that hint of freshness that one would get from a rose in the garden. This is the garden at night. Delicious.

    Yggdrasil

This is very woody and very herbal. There is something sharp in it, almost like mint. At first it was so sharp that it kind of made me draw back from it but it has quickly mellowed into a medicinal, fresh, herbal scent. As I typing that, it went woody and it now a mint and wood blend on my skin. Very fresh and reminds me of a herbal salve or poultice. One of the thing's I love best about Beth's blends is how different notes keep emerging and coming and going and this blend does exactly that.

    Bliss

This really is pure milk chocolate. But it smells like really high quality milk chocolate, something super indulgent and expensive. There is a hint of something deeper other than the chocolate, something almost nutty and sugared but not quite. It's really quite yummy!

    Glasya

Stunning, fiery blend. Glasya's description alone would have made me buy this scent. I bought a bottle on Ebay and have been waiting for just the right occasion to wear this as I think you have to be in the mood to wear a strong scent such as this one. This is an elegant fire, and a feminine force to be reckoned with. On applying, it was spicy and resiny but the rose and ylang ylang pop up pretty quickly, bringing out the princess. I can detect the myrrh as well and I believe the musk. I'm curious as to how this will be hours from now. I'm not getting too much patchouli, only a hint in the background and as I typed this, the myrrh has come out a bit strong. I love when Beth's blends keep morphing and showing different notes as this one does. I'm glad I have a bottle of this!

    Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo

I needed a little joy dose today and I thought it would a perfect time to try this voodoo blend out. It's so sweet in the imp and immediately after applying to my wrist and neck, I got a bubble gum, very pink, joyous and comforting scent. A touch of orange started to emerge as well on the drydown. It now smells entirely like candy and bubblegum. I'm not getting any of that roasted marshmallow scent that others got but I have to say it did make me feel happier and calmer.

    Tavern of Hell

This is so complex and beautiful. My skin seems to amp gardenia so I'm getting a lot of that and finding it similar to Hell's Belle (one of my favorite scents). There is a slight orange-y scent and I'm not picking up any of the absinthe or whiskey yet and not any of the woods. This definitely reminds of the Moulin Rouge ladies swirling past, it's a dark and macabre scent with just the right amount of sweetness that keeps it twisted yet not evil.

    Pain

This one came as a frimp from the Lab and I try all the oils out. Pain is a sharp minty herbal oil, very strong in the imp and immediately after applying. I didn't get any lavender at first, just this very strong medicinal mint. I've only had it on for 45 minutes and it's already faded away and is almost entirely gone. It came on very intense and left just as quickly as it came, this oil!

    The Pool of Tears

Since I love all things Alice in Wonderland, I was excited when this came as a frimp from the Lab since I probably wouldn't have ordered it otherwise. In the imp, this is very delicate and watery, like tears. Beth has captured the scent of Alice crying, very soft as I imagine Alice would. As I applied it, it was a lovely gentle floral, an almost crystalline scent. It has now picked up more the watery aquatic notes and has a touch of spicy floral mingling with the tears scent. I'm not sure how Beth did it but this actually smells like a pool of tears. Very nice.

    The Red Queen

I love Alice in Wonderland so I'm always excited to try any of the Mad Tea Party oils. I also love the lab's cherry and currant so I was definitely looking forward to trying Red Queen. In the imp, it's all cherry with some currant. Yum! There is a very slight hint of woodiness. Not long after applying, the mahogany and woods come out and it's very, very woody. It actually reminds me a bit of Anne Bonny but Anne Bonny's woodiness is more of a salt-sprayed wood while the Red Queen's wood is a rich, dark, red mahogany chest or wardrobe. I still detect a hint of the currant and cherry and hopefully this will re-emerge after a while.

    Grand Guignol

True apricot brandy. It's a rowdy, boozy, fun scent that embodies Grand Guignol. Sometimes I can get overpowered by a boozy note but this is more apricot than booze on me. As it sits on my wrist, it gets softer but still has that joyous, rowdy tavern-ish feel. It's very sweet and delicious, quite feminine.

    Cockaigne

The weather is always mild, the wine flows freely, sex is readily available, and all people enjoy eternal youth. The Land of Plenty, also called Luilekkerland -- the Lazy, Luscious Land: milk and honey, sweet cakes and wine. When I opened the imp earlier today and gave it a sniff, I literally said "Ohh, I want a bottle of this!" and after I put it on, I was not disappointed. This is so yummy, it is exactly what I would imagine Cockaigne to smell like. I get all honey, milk, and sweetcakes with a hint of nuts of some sort. It is very luscious and inviting and has a very natural sweetness to it. By natural, I mean that it's not candy-like or overly sugary, it's smells like something warm and sweet and happy. Lots of milk and honey which I love. I think I'm starting to detect a note of the wine under there, about an hour after applying, but it's very faint and it's almost like looking into a hall from the doorway and smelling the wine that they are drinking but not having the glass up to your nose yet. Love this stuff, big bottle list no doubt!

    Wicked

The lab generously upgraded my imp of Wicked to a bottle in my very first BPAL order ever and it's not often that I wear Wicked as I definitely have to be in a certain mindset to pull it off. Wicked is a very floral oil, and on me, it's a spicy jasmine. Lots of jasmine. It's a very sophisticated, haughty, brooding and aloof scent as the name implies and if you are a jasmine fan and like the ultra-womanly scents, Wicked is for you. At times, it will go slightly soapy on me but then seems to morph back away from the soapiness. I put it on over 8 hours ago and I can still very faintly smell it on my wrists as a soft powdery rose, like a mellowed out Wicked.

    Midway

I won a bottle of this on Ebay and it is so unbelievably delicious. In the bottle, it smells like fried dough and cotton candy. Like a Midway. On my wrist, the fried element subsides a bit and it's all sweet, buttery, candied, sugared yumminess. I obsessively sniff my wrist when I wear it. After several hours, it is a sugary vanilla scent. Beth captured the scent of a Midway exactly in this oil.

    Bewitched

This is gorgeous and is going on my Big Bottle list. This is all blackberries/berries and sage on me and I think I'm starting to get a hint of the dark musk now, about 15 minutes after I've put it on. The green tea isn't coming out yet but that's okay because I'd much rather that the other notes emerge instead. This is very fruity and simply beautiful. It's growing darker slowly and I guess that is maybe the dark musk emerging and it has an almost sinister undertone. This one surprised me and I can't wait to see what it will be like in a few hours!

    Monster Bait: Closet

This is one of my favorite BPAL scents and it is so overwhelmingly delicious. Fury_grrl gave me an imp of it and I loved it so much that she generously gave me her whole bottle one night! This is all blackberry buttercream cake on me and it is almost lickable. In the bottle, it's a sharp blackberry but on me, as it dries, all that yummy creamy buttercream scent emerges and I'm in love.

    Lucy's Kiss

This a very strong rose and to me, it truly is a very Victorian scent. The scent didn't morph too much on me from when I put it on. It went on rose and stayed rose. The rose has a bit of a bite, slightly soapy, and it has incredible staying power. I put it on last night around 7 PM and it is still very noticeable on my wrists. If you are a rose fan, you'll like this one.

    Black Opal

It is amazing how the lab managed to recreate the scent of what an opal should smell like. Opal is my birthstone so I had to try this scent out. It's a creamy metallic vanilla that seems to capture that swirling fire that opals have inside them. There is something dark about this scent. It is predominantly vanilla so vanilla lovers will adore this one, I think.

    Hollywood Babylon

In the imp, this is all glittery sweetness, strawberry and candy. After applying, the twisted undertone emerges and the red musk starts to crawl out. Someone mentioned that this embodies Marilyn Monroe--burning fast and dying young--and I completely agree. This puts images in my head of glittering sun, old Hollywood, and something under the surface that sickly sweet (in a good way) and dark. This is VERY sweet and candy-like on me but it's lovely. For the Lushies out there, you can kind of compare this to Rock Star or Two Timing Tart (discontinued now).

    Queen Alice

I think I need a bottle of this! This is everything Alice as queen should smell like. In the imp, it's this sticky sugary smell, somewhat boozy. As I apply it, all I can think is that it smells like an unlit clove cigarette. Yum! Then the spicy carnation emerges and adds a creamy floral note to it. As it dries, it briefly has the funny plastic smell people are talking about. I think treacle is a type of molasses and I'm definitely getting a spicy molasses type smell. This is really gorgeous and unfolds beautifully. After a few hours, I'm left with a very creamy spicy sweet carnation scent, very sophisticated yet delicate and embodies Alice.

    Bien Loin D'Ici

This is a lot more herbaly in the early stages than I was expecting. I don't get a lot of that strong herbal (rosemary?) scent in the imp but right after I apply it, there it is. I expected this to be a lot more sweet and incense-y right off the bat but there is rosemary and flowers described in that poem so I shouldn't be surprised by the herbiness and green tone. After about an hour, the sweet heady incense smell comes out and it's lovely. This is very strong--in a good way--and now, after about 6 hours of applying, it's still very much on my wrists in a sweet, somewhat powdery incense incarnation.

    Poisoned Apple

To me, this is the emodient of the poisoned apple in Snow White. It is calling up the image of that sticky, glittering poisoned apple. In the imp, it is pure apple. There really isn't a hint of that poison underneath but that's how it is in the fairytale too--you have no idea that it's been poisoned when you first see it. Immediately after applying, a smoky peppery scent emerges. It's somewhat sharp to the nose but in a good way. The poisoned part continues to unfold and then softly fades away to being very faint, leaving an apple floral scent. This is genius.

    Love in the Asylum

I bought a 5mL bottle of this on Ebay a couple of weeks ago and it's lovely. In the bottle, it's all rose with a very faint medicinal smell. As I said to my friend furygrrl, it smells like an asylum! As I wore it, it became very complex. It's very rose-y with a hint of something sharp--probably the balsam. It's also sweet which I'm thinking is the tonka. I don't get any tobacco but there is definitely something very fainly medicinal in there. This is mostly roses and this does not turn powdery on me at all.

    Drink Me

I love all things Alice in Wonderland so of course I had to try this one. In the imp: Buttery vanilla toffee. Very buttery. Yummy! Immediately after applying, I get a LOT of cherry. And I mean, immediately. As soon as it touched my wrist, the cherry came flying out. After several minutes, it went back to vanilla and then my surprise, I started to actually smell the roast turkey. Maybe I'm imagining it but I could have sworn I smelled roast turkey. Since I'm vegan, I decided to pretend it was roast potatoes ;-) In the next half hour, this morphed between a yummy sweet vanilla scent and that roasted food scent. I wasn't too excited about smelling like roasting food so when that finally went away, I was happy. It's now a nice soft sweet vanilla. Definitely yummy. I didn't think the two foodie scents I've tried so far--Eat Me and Drink Me--would be wearable but they definitely are.

    Eat Me

Oh, YUM! This one is absolutely delicious. In the imp, I get the light white cake with a hint of something like carmelized sugar. The vanilla didn't immediately stand out to me but after a few sniffs, I could detect the currant. As it dried, this just got yummier and yummier. The vanilla really started to emerge but it's not just a regular tired vanilla, it's this gorgeous burnt sugar vanilla that is creamy and makes me obsessively sniff my wrist. I keep catching whiffs of berry in the next couple hours. This is a light scent yet it is still rich and foodie and creamy sweet. I can't stop sniffing myself. I wasn't sure if I'd like a foodie smell on myself as a fragrance but this is just fabulous and beautiful.

    Sacred Whore of Babylon

In the imp: something sweet and lots of jasmine (or maybe it's gardenia? or both?). I didn't pick up much of the vanilla some people had mentioned and no cinnamon at all. First 10 minutes on my wrist, I got a very strong floral scent which surprised me because I thought this scent would be more spicy and smoky. An hour after applying, it keeps changing. Right now, I'm getting a lot of vanilla which is nice and the jasmine/floral scent remains strong. There is slightly spicy undertone now emerging. I love how this keeps morphing! For a minute there, before the vanilla came out, it went a bit soapy which freaked me out. But right now, it's very pretty. I thought this scent would have a more incense-y note to it though.
