    Gingerbread Poppet

in the imp: mmmm, warm rich gingerbread. Wet on me: pale gingerbread that someone at least 3 doors down might be baking. Dry on me: scent stays true gingerbread, and is actually intensifying slightly. Very slightly. Fairly stable scent. Sometimes the ginger peeks out a little more, sometimes the clove. Pardon the repetition, but it truly does smell good enough to eat. And so my skin is eating it. Ah well.

    White Rabbit

imp: light honey wet: sweet tea, and cleanliness. I guess that would be the "fresh linen." No spices though. Where are my spices? Dry: where'd the tea go? It's still lightly honey/vanilla clean linen, but where's my tea?? For that matter, where are my spices? I love spices, darnit! Overall: Very pretty, light, clean scent. The kind of scent I almost never wear. Maybe if the spices had come out on me it'd be a different story....

    Whitechapel

This is nice. imp: strong lilac, hint of citrus Wet one me: mostly citron & lime with a touch of musk, light lilac. 5 min later: mmm, lemony 10 min later: lemony with hint of lilac. I might have to keep this one. Fades too soon, about a half hour or so, but really pretty while it lasts. I think I'm going to try mixing this one with unscented lotion to see how it does.

In the Imp & wet on me: heavy, buttery, spiced french toast. Butter scents make me gag. I really hope this one morphs. 5 minutes later: less butter and some pumkin, yay! Smells like overly butter pumpkin bread with snickerdoodle now. Still hoping more butter goes away. 15min later: the spices have eased up (aw) and there an almost fruity note now. I'm guessing that's the pumpkin. Later: still slightly too buttery, with light pumpkin-spice bread scent. Bummer. I really thought I'd like this one.

    Ultraviolet

Bright mint over violet. I expected the mint to fade in a few minutes leaving mostly violet. Oddly, after a few minutes, the violet seems to have faded a bit, but still a strong mint. 30min later: most of the mint is gone and a rich violet is left. Very nifty. An hour later: Still violet, just a bit softer. Close to a soft single note violet.

    Bluebeard

Wet: good blend of lavendar & veritver, with bare hints of the other notes. Dry: Pretty much the same. I bet this is great on a guy. On me it smells like herbal soap. Edit: oddly, the herbal soap is growing on me. It's a very clean scent.

    Neptune

In the imp: feh, cedar! bleh. On me: completely different. Light, watery, faintly green, slightly bubblegum (I think that's lotus), faint faint spice, & a hint of ozone that tickles my nose. Wow. I don't normally like the light airy/watery scents but this is gorgeous. Though it would need slathering, 'cause it is quite light, though it gets stronger after the first few minutes. Or maybe I just put on that little. (It's part of the celestial circle swap, and I'm being careful about how much I try.)

    Pisces

Wet: light florals, a touch sharp. Rather generically perfume-y. Dry: More aquatic, stronger florals, less generic. Quite nice, but not my thing.

    Mercury

Fascinating scent. Sharp lemon turning to lavendar turning to cinnamon turning back to lemon. Really interesting combination. The changing nature definitely reminds me of mercury -- quicksilver and fleeting. Fascinating. Lovely. Just really really cool. Sigh. Why EVER were these discontinued? I've tried 10 or so celestials and loved about 7 of them! I don't have anywhere near this good luck with the catalog scents I've tried!

In the imp: medicinal/spicey. Bleh. But I know better than to let that put me off trying sometihng by now. Wet on me: cinnamon & dragon's blood! ooooooh... That sweetness has to be dragon's blood. Oh wow, I like this!!! Dry: Some cloves join the party. This is very very nice. Why is it that so far, all my favorites are discontinued? Sheesh. (And I'm sure the fact that I've sniffed as many discontinued as catalogue scents has nothign to do with it. I think Beth puts crack in the ones she's about to take off the market.)

    Aries

In the imp: godawful. sharp cedary. On me: Wow. I thought I'd like this. I've loved other fire elements so far -- Sol & Saggitarius, and this is reminiscent of both. Less firey than Sol, Less complicated and spicey than Sagg. But still delicious, sweeter, mellower. The frankincense shows through nicely. Oh my skin likes this yes it does!!! So sad it's not my imp, just from the circular swap. Others have called this masculine. I wouldn't, not really. It has the warm/sweet earthiness/sexiness from Cerberus. So sad this is discontinued. It goes to the top of my wishlist.

    Graveyard Dirt

How odd. This is exactly "single note dirt", if fresh-turned earth could be said to be only a single note. Fascinating. Beth is a hell of an artist.

    Capricorn

Wet: mild cedar. 10 minutes later: still cedar, some vertiver. Where are the incense resins?? Later: Cedar/vertiver mix. Nothing else. Phooey on my skin chemistry. This sounded so good in the other reviews.

    Scorpio

First impression: light, sweet, spicy, and a hint of sharp. Nice. 10 min later: a hint of muskiness is developing. Very sexy scent! Later: and the sweetness is coming out a bit more now. It reminds me a lot of La Petit Mort & O, but it's somehow lighter, less cloying. (And I *love* LPM & O).

    Kumiho

Light and pretty, and ginger/tea as described, but fades in less than 5 min on me.

    Rakshasa

Wet: Sandalwood, light rose, and lemon soap. I guess the lemon soap is the way patchouli combines the other notes, but wow. Sharp & instant headache. 10 min later: Okay, now this is more like it. Sandalwood rose the way I love it from bath & bodyworks, only woodier, and with a hint of patchouli. Very interesting. I hope it stays this scent! 20 min later: the lemon soap has lost its sharpness, but oddly rose is the first note to have worn off. It's usually one of the longest lasting ones on me. Mostly lemon (no clue why) & patchouli. Light, fresh, airy. Not what I was expecting. 2 hours later: and mosly light patchouli remains. Overall: nice, interesting. Not quite what I was expecting. Probably a swap-pile imp. On the other hand, it would probably layer well with something rich and rose-like.

    Le Serpent Qui Danse

At first: babypowder + something perfumey + a hint of grass A few minutes later: babypowder is still there, grass is gone, and the perfumey-ness has morphed into something almost like aftershave, reminds me slightly of a strong note wood-aftershave note in Lucky #20. (yeah, I know that's helpful to you.) Could be that violets just badly disagree with me. I have the same reaction of 'ick, aftershave' to the raven. 30 min later: the scent doesn't morph much more. Same as above. Good throw though. 3 hours later: only a bit of vanilla sweetness is left. [edited for 3 hour report]

    Succor

How odd that this is different for everyone... Wet on me: faintly spice (incense resin maybe?), faintly plastic ala Snow White. Upon reading other reviews, it does indeed remind me of green olives, but without much sharp/bitterness. And the olive scent is light. 2 minutes later: less olive. Later: mostly a light incense, but still a hint of salt. A light scent, but I'm being drawn to bed. (I was tired before though, so this might just be enhancing it.) Odd and interesting. I think I'm going to need to try this several times before I can make any decisions.

    Kali

In the bottle: Oh YUCK, sharp and icky. Am tempted not to put this on. On wet: oh okay, the sharp scents disappeared quickly. Now it's lightly floral, and pretty. Possibly a light fruit note? Maybe that's a hint of red wine? A few minutes later: lightly rose. This is the first light rose I've sniffed from the lab as opposed to a rich rose. Interesting. Later: the scent stays consistant. It's not a heavy scent by any means though on me. I'd probably have to slather this one. Funny, it doesn't sound like it'd be a light scent. Very pretty, but not particularly complex unless my nose is still confused from trying on Dorian earlier. Somewhat dissappointing though as I was looking forward to the nifty complexity. I love the more complex scents. Will have to try again tommorrow without the Dorian confusion.

    Dorian

Interesting... Wet: nothing for a second then sweet, slightly green (tea?) lemon. Mmm. A few minutes later: More sweet tea now with a touch of faint florals. Later: light, interesting. The lemon actually seems to stay, though lightly. Overall: nifty nifty scent. I don't think it's me though.

    Carnivàle

Bright, intoxicating, hectic notes masking a twisted, corrupted core: sweet wild berry, spicy carnation and heliotrope layered over deep amber and musk. First impression: ooh! swwet and fruity without being all life-savers! A few minutes later: some of the florals are coming through. This is pretty. But where's the musk and amber? 10 min Later: darnit. My fruit curse strokes again. My skin always eats the fruit notes. 30min later: And it's eating most of the rest of the notes too leaving only something slightly sharp. Oh well. time to decant and share I guess.

    Sea of Glass

First impression: Oooooh, lily of the valley!!! I love those flowers! Later: Lily of the valley with something else light overlaying it. A hint of ozone maybe? This is nice. More floral on me than I expected, (and actually a relatively strong floral for the first few minutes) but very nice. The first perfume I ever owned (age 12 or so) was a lily of the valley perfume. I have no idea what it was called. So it's very nice and kind of nostalgic.... but I'm not sure how me it is though. It's the first BPAL perfume that smells "old lady" on me. I suspect the imp is for trade. EDIT: No grapefruit/citrus on me at all. I need to learn to stop trying scents with a fruit note. My skin eats it, leaving an incomplete perfume. Sigh. Much later (like about 2 hours): Okay, this has settled/faded to a scent that actually sounds like the lab description. Nice, light, tranquil, not overly floral, nice blend. If it started out this way I'd love it. Not sure I want to *wait* to get there.

    Black Pearl

Evocative of the sea's unplumbed mysteries. Gentle and lovely, but menacing and profound. Coconut, Florentine iris, hazelnut and opalescent white musk. Initial thought: sweet and warm. Pretty! Similar, but a deeper scent than O A few minutes later: shaving cream???? *wails* The initial scent was so nice! Later: shaving cream with coconut. Sigh. Dissappointing. I should find out what scent it is that turns into shaving cream on me.
  24. Muppetk

    O

Pretty. Very pretty. The main thing I can smell is the honey, with a dot of vanilla to make it sweeter. I'm sure the amber is there, because the scent is nicely rounded, but my nose can't pick it out. It almost make me think of a fruit honey rather than a floral honey. This reminds me very much of La Petit Mort, only stonger, sweeter & richer, but without the drop of sex. (Given the description, I'm rather surprised at the lack of sex in this scent.) I need to try layering it with something with some musk or spicyness, that would be amazing. Can't wait to try this on for my boy.
  25. Muppetk

    Sagittarius

Mmmmm. Warm, rich and interesting with a hint of spice that reminds me a bit of Sol, and a bit of Cerberus (think cerberus after the rum-note wears off, but less rich & sweet). This one is richer, without the dried grass smell. There's also an interesting top note for the first half hour or so... Almost mint-like. Others have called it eucalyptus, on me it seemed like mint. I like it better after that wears off 'cause it doesn't seem to mesh well with the rest of it. In summary: I like it! EDIT: ooooh, as time goes by (a couple hours after application) a peep of cardamom/incense is coming to the foreground. I like it even more!
