I too "know" this scent. I'm not sure I can exactly place the flower, but I get a very strong impression of being in church when I smell it. I'm guessing that means it must be lillies that I'm smelling. Lillies that are so heavily laden with pollen that I can almost feel their powder on my fingers. After half an hour or so, I do start to get the violets that other people are mentioning. Really everything about this scent evokes disconcertingly overwhelming scent memories for me. This is wonderful if you like florals, but I'm more of a foody-scent type of girl.

This smells like a bar of Ivory soap still in the packaging. Sweetly soapy with a little bite that reminds me of the slightly acrid odor of paper or cardboard. It's OK, but not really for me. It's a bit too mild for my taste.

I believe I heard the History Channel pronounce it "heh - TIE - reh."

I would, but it's not a "store brand" shampoo (I don't think that's the word I'm looking for, but it will have to do.) It's from this company, which I can't recommend enough: Purology They're just sold in salons, and not in the places where they're made. The one in particular that I use is the Hydrate Shampoo. The rest of them don't smell like patchouli.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
Mnemosyne replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
I've had two or three that left me feeling "sticky" afterwards. Off the top of my head, "O" did it and so did Laudanum. I just figured that it was because those oils were more viscous than most others. -
Hm. Rose certainly isn't something that I ever would have thought of mixing with patchouli, but now that you mention it, I can imagine that it might be just what I'm looking for. And I've got an imp of Persephone that doesn't work on my skin, so I think I'll probably experiment with adding a drop of that to a small amount of the shampoo and see what that does. Thanks for the idea.

Yes, I realize my thread title sounds a little crazy, but I couldn't think of a better way to word it, and my problem is a bit odd. I have a shampoo that I really enjoy, however, it happens to come scented with patchouli. The problem is, I don't like patchouli at all, and my husband hates it like you can't imagine. The lab included a free imp of Greed with my last order, and I figured that even though it had patchouli, I should give it at least one test. My husband told me that I had better find a way to wash it off before I got in bed with him, or he was going to cut my arms off. (It was a joke, so none of you think that my husband is some sort of abusive monster that keeps me chained to the radiator.) So, back to the problem at hand...patchouli smells like dirty hippies to me, and the last thing I want to smell like after washing is a dirty hippie. Is there any BPAL scent that you think might mix well with the patchouli scent in my shampoo that would make it smell less like patchouli?

After I was let down by Persephone (which turned into nothing but roses on me), I was really looking forward to finding the pomegranate that I craved in this. Swank didn't let me down in that department. I love pomegranates, and this has a delicious barely-ripe pomegranate smell. I'm not really getting the alcoholic smell here, but I do get a tiny hint of something that smells like either lemon or lime, I can't quite decide which. I've read plenty of reviews of various other scents where people complained that it turned "soapy" on them. I hadn't experienced that particular phenomenon myself until I tried Swank. It took about half an hour to turn soapy, but it was defintely soap. However, I'm OCD about cleaning things, so I happen to love the smell of soap, particularly the soap this turned into: Pomegranate Soap! No complaints about the "soapy" smell here. It makes me think about a relaxing bath in the middle of the day. Soaking in a big white porcelain tub with pomegranate scented bubble bath. It's not a warm, sleepy, right-before-bed type of bath, but instead a leisurely, revitalizing, sunlight-streaming-through-the-windows kind of bath.

My friend has declared this her "can't live without it" scent, so I was expecting it to be really great. Unfortunately, I can't stand it. To me, it smells like grape Dimetap mixed with those pink, chewable Children's Tylenol they give you when you're a kid. Neither of those two things conjures up pleasant memories, as you can imagine. It may also be worth noting that this is the first BPAL oil that I've tried that didn't smell different on me than it smelled in the bottle. Even an hour later, it still smelled exactly the way it did in the vial.

Where is my order? What is Click N Ship? How long does this take?
Mnemosyne replied to Snow White's topic in BPAL FAQs
AAAIIIIGGHHH!!! But this is actually a relief, because I've been bouncing like a crazy person waiting for it and thinking it must have been lost, and now I'm not so freaked out (made an order on the 8th of May). Also I can stop driving my landlady crazy. Which is, you know, good. *bounces more quietly* <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Right about now they're seeming to take a good bit longer than 5 weeks. Currently it's more like 8 weeks. Instead of bugging your landlady, you can just be an obsessive nut like me and check this thread every day: http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=13454&st=300 I thread lets you know who has gotten click-n-ships for their orders and what date they placed the original order. Then you have a rough estimate of which orders are currently shipping. If you look in that thread, the March 25 through April 1st orders are currently shipping. EDIT: Eeep, I hadn't checked that thread since early this morning. Seems like people got Click-n-Ships for some orders up to April 4th today. -
Where is my order? What is Click N Ship? How long does this take?
Mnemosyne replied to Snow White's topic in BPAL FAQs
I hope this is the appropriate place for this question.... From everything I've read, it seems you get a confirmation email when your order ships out. I ordered via CCNow, and my order status page says that the order shipped yesterday, yet I did not receive an email. Should I be getting an email if it actually shipped? EDIT: Nevermind, I found the answer.
