Wonderful, rich, delicious cinnamon! Diabolical cinnamon and cloves. This seems like a such simple fragrance. But there's a richness behind the spiciness that I love! I do detect some pine, but it only serves to add depth. It's like the balsamic, resinous slightly sticky scent that you get after crushing fresh pine needles. Like cinnamon buns and oatmeal cookies baked at midnight in the middle of an ancient forest. If you love Chimera, Shub-niggurath or any other type of spicy, vanillic perfume, you have to try this!!

This is like Eat Me with a soft undercurrant of roses. I love it! It's yummy and very pretty--like pastries with rose jelly.

Cool! A Black Cashmere thread! I'm glad this thread has been ressurected! I just discovered BC and I'm sad that it has been discontinued! I don't recall anything in my BPAL collection that's similar. But the BPAL's I love that have either the spicy, woody and/or resinous thing going are: -Snake Charmer -Chimera -Morocco -Scherazade -Mme. Moriarty -Saw Scaled Viper -Snake Oil And I'm dying to try Priala! Sounds like she's all smoke and spice--yummy!

Second only to Snake Charmer--Chimera is my absolute favorite!! I love its creamy, resinous cinammon-y goodness. The sweetness is tempered by (what I believe) is the myrrh which gives it a slightly smoky bitter edge--very mysterious! The copal gives it richness. I'm not sure what honeysuckle smells like--but something pretty sweetens it up a bit and maybe that's it. It's hard for me to describe my favorite blends--it's hard to adequately express why I feel this blend is so beautiful--I'd rather not say anything at all than to sell it short. But in any case...this is very rich, spicy and thick. It's delicious! It seems bright and dark at the same time. It's like how Shub-Niggurath is to ginger, Chimera is to cinnamon! And it just gets better with age! My 2004 bottle was to die for!

A very sultry patchouli-vanilla scent with slight spiciness. If it's brand-new it can smell a little medicinal and bit like the inside of a new car. But after a while, as it ages, it definitely grows into itself and becomes beautiful. I have a 2004 10ml vintage that is gorgeous! All thick rich resinous, earthy sweetness.

Yes, this ends up waxy on me. At first I get warm, tart apple cider....but the drydown is very candle-y. I agree with the crayon analogy. But I do not get that with Lampades (I *love* Lampades!)--so it's not the cranberries that does tha wax thing. Maybe it's the cider?

This is like a bit of Coyote mixed with Antique Lace without the flowers. I think the ambers give this blend the warm fuzzines of Coyote (but is there amber in Coyote?). I can smell the sweetness of sweetpea and vanilla. Maybe there is a bit of musk in here. It reminds me very much of Coyote, but lighter and sweeter and softer. And while Coyote is a warm golden tan fuzziness, this is a light fluffy gray. Very nice.

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)

I love this!!!!! It's very reminiscent of my favorite, Snake Charmer, but a drier, smokier version. It's like Snake Charmer with some Formula 54 (which reminds me that I still mourn my wasted, precious bottle--I lost it all when I accidentally picked it up by its stopper and it dropped and split everywhere!! ). I smell incense, smoke (tabacco?), plum, something resinous and sweet like vanilla (or tonka), a bit of Snake Oil, a lot of Snake Charmer and a smidgen of F54. This is my new favorite and I plan on getting a bottle with every Lunacy order. I know this will age wonderfully. Another to the Lab. -
CDXXVIII (428): In the bottle, this is very ozone-y, menthol, eucalyptus. Reminds me of Storm Moon or a sporty men's cologne. On my skin, the menthol predominates, but I think I smell vanilla or a bit of something like cake (yay!)--but just for a while as it dries down--I'm reminded of how Spooky was on me (but without the plasticky-ness). I was getting happy thinking that maybe this Chaos would work for me..... ....but sadly no. The drydown is entirely men's cologne. Faded aftershave. I am thinking that this may be nice for a sporty, "sailboat in the marina" -type guy. It's definitely not for me.

I had *serious* sugar cookie craving today (they are my favorite cookies--I love the simple sweet butteryness of them!). So after I came home from work, I baked some. And I slathered on Sugar Cookie 2004, to keep with the "mood". The 2004 version is definitely sugar cookies condensed in perfume form!! On me, I smell freshly baked cookies. A bit of spice--cinnamon? A little burnt sugar and powdery flour. It's so yummy. An hour later, the drydown is a little waxy...but that's okay.

This is a light, sweet resiny scent. Like others have noted, I detect amber, predominently. With a vanilla-like aspect. I also sense something "light"--like a bit of a citrus. This is like powdery Dreamscicles! I like it! This is definitely lighter and sweeter then I imagined, for a resin blend. I bet it would age beautifully.

Sadly, I don't think I like this. Snow Bunny affects me in the same way Ice Queen did--it's making me queasy. I smell pine and something aquatic and menthol-y....eucalyptus? (must be the "snow" note). And underneath it all is a sweet sort of perfume--which I do like. But I can't get past the overall Ice Queen-ness of this. In short, Snow Bunny is a sister to Ice Queen and Skadi. They all have that same type of "snowy-ness". So if you like them, you'll love this.

This is bright and sparkly, in the beginning. Grandiose and happy. But later, in the drydown, it feels very nostalgic...heavy and wistful. I'm reminded of scenes in the movie Sunset Boulevard were Norma Desmond sits in her mansion lost in memories of the past. I think of 1920's Art Deco and the golden tiles at Hearst Castle. I like this blend a lot. And the label is perfect.

The Musk Thread! Need to know what type is for you?

I would say: 1. Antique Lace 2. Zephyr 3. Black Opal 4. Dorian 5. Dragon's Milk 6. Black Pearl -
Chaos Theory CCCXCIV (394): This reminded me, at first sniff, like a melon-y Neo Tokyo. It has that same fresh, bamboo-like quality. When on, it's melon with slight bitterness in the background. Bittersweet Watermelon? There seems to be a musky undertone to this also. It's a very light, fleeting scent. This is fresh, bittersweet melon with a deep base. Interesting.

I'm aging my bottle of Morocco, too. And also my Gingerbread Poppet. Right now, Morocco smells too dry and sharp--so unlike my imp was. And Gingerbread Poppet still smells too much like curry. So I'm waiting until the spices mellow out...hopefully, it'll smell yummy and gingerbread-like after a few more months.

What about Darkness?? I was just going through my multitude of imps and I've rediscovered this. Super dark (of course) and dry. -
I chose Jack because, of the 4, it's the most comforting familiar-type scent. Almost everyone is familiar with pumpkin spices and pumpkin pie.

Sweet scents are among my favorites, but I thought I just had to mention-- Seance it's on the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of sweet. It's rather dry and "nostalgic" and very wistful. -
Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?
Stephanie replied to Nadirah's topic in Recommendations
Black Rose is a beautiful, deep, dark, solemn rose. It makes me think of those huge velvety South American "jungle" roses. It's my favorite rose scent. Persephone is a very juicy, sweet rose. Rose Red, from what I've read, would be a great choice for a freshly picked, early morning rose. I think you should get that one right away, since it's an LE and then spend more time deciding on others. -
Wow..this thread is super interesting to me. I always wondered why and how Samhain is pronouced SOW-WEN. Internally, I pronounce it like it's spelled--"SAM-HANE". But it makes sense that Samhain is pronounced differently because it's Celtic--a totally different language. That's obvious to me now. Thanks for the info! I was always intrigued by linguistics.
