We shall swim out to that brooding reef in the sea and dive down through black abysses to Cyclopean and many-columned Y'ha-nthlei, and in that lair of the Deep Ones we shall dwell amidst wonder and glory for ever. A great undersea metropolis located below Devil's Reef. A swirling, lightless, effervescent scent: the deepest marine notes with bergamot, eucalyptus and foamy ambergris. In the bottle Smells clean and fresh with just a tad of sweet warm ambergris. On Soft, musky Ambergris. I have Beth's Ambergris Bouquet single note and I LOVE that smell. It's lovely in this blend. 30 minutes Doesn't change much. Throw: a bit only Scent category: Marine/Animalistic Summary This is a win for me. I love this and it's so wearable too. It reminds me of Skadi or Snow Angel et al. Purchase again? Yes. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4

Strange goddess, brown as evening to the sight,Whose scent is half of musk, half of havanah, Work of some obi, Faust of the Savanah, Ebony witch, and daughter of the night. By far preferred to troth, or opium, or sleep, Love vaunts the red elixir of your mouth. My caravan of longings seeks in drouth Your eyes, the wells at which my cares drink deep. Through those black eyes, by which your soul respires, Pitiless demon! pour less scorching fires. I am no Styx nine times with flame to wed. Nor can I turn myself to Proserpine To break your spell, Megera libertine! Within the dark inferno of your bed. A pounding heartbeat coalesced into scent: demonic passion and brutal sexuality manifested through myrrh, red patchouli, cognac, honey, and tuberose and geranium in a breathy, panting veil over the darkest body musk. In the bottle It's a pale orange liquid. Mmm. Warm musk, sensual and quite beautiful. I couldn't believe how wonderful it smelled when I sniffed the imp. On Oh man this is a 5 star blend, I can tell already. The Tuberose, Honey and Musk act as this sexy sweet warm sensuality over the dark myrrh, cognac and patchouli. This is absolutely fabulous on my skin. 30 minutes The dark musk is not primary now but still there, the thick myrrh and light floral are present now with the warmth of the other scents. Throw: Some Scent category: foody/incensy/floral Summary Initially it's warm and sensual and a tad sweet, just right. Then it becomes a bit less romantically playful and darker as it dries with the myrrh, patchouli and cognac , all the while a wee floral soapiness springs up from the tuberose and geranium. It all goes together so well. Purchase again? Yes, a 10ml. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4.5

No one ever found what the night-gaunts took, though those beasts themselves were so uncertain as to be almost fabulous. Carter asked them if night-gaunts sucked blood and liked shiny things and left webbed footprints, but they all shook their heads negatively and seemed frightened at his making such an inquiry. When he saw how taciturn they had become he asked them no more, but went to sleep in his blanket. Their scent of their slick, rubbery hides is bittersweet, ticklish, and skin-creeping: something akin to yuzu, white grapefruit, and kumquat mixed with the snow-dusted flowers of Mount Ngranek. In the bottle Kumquat On Kumquat but Grapefruit is making itself known now, and a itterweet note that is quite nice with the fruit notes. 30 minutes Hasn't change much except the kumquat is more at the forefront and not so much grapefruit now. Throw: Yes Scent category: Fruity Summary My favorite fruity scents are orange and grapefruit so this is a joy to wear. It's different because of the slightly bitter harbal (or maybe its the floral) combined with the fruit. It's not sweet as some fruity blends are. If you like kumquat, you're going to love this. I like other grapefruit (and kumquat) bpal scents more than this one but this is nice. Purchase again? Maybe 1-5 rating (5 being best) 3.5

It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train – a shapeless congerie of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter. An amorphous, radiant, incandescent scent. Ever changing, protoplasmic and primordial: white amber, green coconut meat, iris, palmarosa, Chinese peony, lime, water lily, snowdrop, muguet, lemongrass, osmanthus, wisteria, glassy musk, and hinoki. In the bottle Citrussy. Lime and very light florals On Lemon and lime. I don't pick up any coconut (thank goodness) nor musk. The florals are suprisingly tame. 30 minutes The lemongrass amps up beautifully. Either my nose has called it a day, or all the ingredients blend so well that I can't pick the out. Throw: no Scent category: Citrus/Floral and slightly Resinous/Animalistic Summary It's not a sweet blend. Shoggoth reminds me of TAL's "Milk and Honey", with it's light lemony fresh air scent. Purchase again? Yes 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4.5

Affectionately nicknamed 'The Devil's Bake Sale'. Wet I can't believe how foody but yummy this is. This is by no means too foody meaning it doesn't get sickening or cloying as some food-y type products do. You can actually smell that golden brown smell as when pastry or dough is baked and becomes golden because of the butter. That's exactly what this smells like. How in the world did Beth get that smell in a bottle? 10 minutes There's also a sweetish, vaguely fruity bakery smell mixed in with some cinnamon and nutmeg too. 20 minutes The cinnamon has come out more to the foreground . Damn, this is really good. I'm impressed. The buttery golden brown goodness is still there just more cinnamony. Still smells as good as it did when wet, this is a real pleasure. 5 2005 In the bottle Hmm. More creamed and sugared butter smell. On Wait a minute, I don't smell the golden brown buttery pastry of 2004. 30 minutes It's less cream and sugar and more cooked pastry crust. Throw: average Scent category: Foody Summary I like the sweet dough smell of this better than the cinnamony part of 2004 blend. The golden buttery crust part of 2004 is here in the 2005 blend also. Whew. Purchase again? Yes. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4

In the bottle resinous, herbal and fruity goodness with a teeny bit of floral. On On my skin, Temple: Witches smells resinous, herbal, mildly floral and fruity. There might be some heliotrope in here as well as amber but I'm not sure. Maybe black lotus too? Sorry to disappoint but I'm afraid this will be a poor first post review because I can't for the life of me pick out any notes other than general floral, resin, etc. Perhaps the next reviewer can pinpoint these notes. 30 minutes This becomes much more floral on me as it is drying. It's becoming a little soapy as well but nothing heinous. Throw: average Scent category: Resin/Herbal/Floral/(Fruity?) Summary A lush, thick yet bright and fruity scent initially. An nice undertone of herbals. As it dries it becomes more floral in nature. Not a sweet floral as Jasmine or Plumeria, not Rose either. Becomes a tad soapy on me when dry. Purchase again? Maybe 1-5 rating (5 being best) 3.5

In the bottle I smell Amber and a somewhat piercing, bright herbal smell like heliotrope. On I annointed a stone with this blend. 30 minutes It's sweet, like golden amber initially and thick and resinous, then it becomes brighter more astringent and almost piercing. Than it relaxes a bit and warms up again to a golden smelling or "feeling" blend. Throw: a bit more than average, yes. Scent category: Not sure, resin/herbal/? Summary This is a lively blend, it seems to be alive and change as I smell it, alternating between a warm golden resin and a piercing, astringent, bright quality. Like the sun. Purchase again? Yes for effect and feeling, not for the scent. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 2 for scent 7 (thusfar) for workability[/color]

Silences gossip, slander, and perfidy. Helps you shake off the negative effects of other people's sniping. spolier vision: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/lush...LSTFUbottle.jpg ] In the bottle Mmm...musk. On Oh my, this smells really good. It's a combo of musk and coniferous things like fir trees or juniper. It also has some floral in here....a lightly sweet floral like Jasmine or Rose maybe? Very clean smelling initially like "Snow bunny" or "Amsterdam" but there's a insidiously sexy bottom-y note. 30 minutes stays smelling as it did when wet. Throw: more than average...yep. Scent category: Green/Floral/Animalistic Summary This is nice and strong and it's a gender nautral scent to my nose. It's nicer than I though it would be. It's got great throw. Tt's fresh and clean smelling but sensual to. Purchase again? Yes. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4 Edited because I had to correct tags. Edited to add description - clover

General citrus recommendations - and discussion of all things orange
UltraViolet posted a topic in Recommendations
I like citrus and oranges in particular. Can someone tell me if there is a BPAL scent like this? -
Shields you from prying eyes, aids in deception, keeping secret buried, and turns the eyes of others away from you. Spolier vision: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y181/lush...ALVeilsmist.jpg In the Bottle I was hoping that this was the entirely captivating scent coming from my shelves. And lo and behold...it was. On I'm annointing a lavender colored candle with this for some color work, and also dabbing some on my skin. There's got to be jasmine, stargazer lily or some floral like that in here, it's got fabulous throw. It starts out smelling of like green grass, carnation, jasmine, lavender ....maybe not lavender on second thought. It smells purple, light purple. 30 minutes At about 10 minutes it goes from a softer floral scent to a stronger but still a lovely, sweet floral with a fresh scent to it and incredible throw. I also smell lotus in there or *tries to remember the single note review wherein I discovered it's not lotus but something that I always thought was lotus* well that's in here too whatever it is. It's a vageuly earthy or mushroomy/earthy smell that is underneath the sweet floral now. Throw: Holy mother of God. Scent category: Floral/? Summary It starts out lovely so lovely, and as it dries it gives me a headache. It's almost too something now, scent-wise. I will say that "work" wise it's breaking through some veils most definitely. It's quite powerful in that sense for those of you who like to pierce the veil and communicate. Purchase again? Yes. Most definitely works. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 3.5 for scent 11 for work-a-bility Whew. I cannot use Veil & Mists...and then drive or operate heavy machinery. Edited to add description - clover

In the bottle I'm partial to oranges so please keep that in mind lol. It's sunshine in a bottle. It's light, bright....joyful. I definitely smell oranges....and maybe heliotrope...and something freakin' gorgeous smelling. This smells exactly as it sounds. On Orangey and bright and lovely. This is honestly one of the better orange BPAl or TAL blends I've tried to date. 30 minutes It is long lasting, surprisingly for a citrussy blend. It doesn't stay quite as "fresh orange juice" as it did when wet, (I had this as 5 when wet) but it's still quite a joyous blend when dry. Throw: maybe a wee bit more than average. Scent category: Citrus Summary If you like the scent of BPAL's single note orange, or even the blood orange sn, you will like this. Purchase again? Yes. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4 Edited to add the date on the title bar, after I deleted it for some reason. EDIT: I've removed the subtitle, 'cause this scent hasn't been released yet and I'm trying to keep the titling in this subforum consistent. --Shollin

Wear this oil and use in spellwork to influence people into feeling compassion for you. Makes you appear more likeable and accessible. Use whenever you need to overcome loneliness or wish to find a sympathetic ear to commiserate with. In the bottle Smells kind of like my dad when he and my mom would go out for the evening when I was young. Like a men's cologne scent but a tad more feminine than that. On Wow, this is almost angelic, it's sort of like Anthelion but more...hmm...crisp and green? It seems ot have some eucalyptus or something. And maybe some unidentifiable (to me) floral. It's got a bitter/citrussy twang to it now too. 30 minutes Stays the same as when wet actually. Long lasting and doesn't fade too much at all. It does get just an iota sweeter (it's lovely this way) now as opposed to when it's wet on my skin. It doesn't smell at all like it did when wet now at 30 minutes. It smelled kind of mens cologne-y initially but now it's more like Amsterdam meets Anthelion mixed with a shot of grapefruit and some additional hebral or green. Throw: more than average, yes. Scent category: green/herbal? Summary It's eucalyptus/minty, herbal and sort of an aquatic citrus? It's lovely. Soothing. It allows one to feel safe. Purchase again? Yes. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4 for scent 4 for workability (Great stuff. I am amazed that these are ALL such great blends) Edited to add description - clover

I worship you like night's pavilion, O vase of sadness, o great silent one, And love you more since you escape from me, And since you seem, my night's sublimity, To mock me and increase the leagues that lie Between my arms and blue immensity. I move to attack, beseige, assail, Like eager worms after a funeral. I even love, o beast implacable, The coldness which makes you more beautiful. Not the desperation, desolation and anguish of unrequited love, but the distant, chill and pitiless scent of the object of that doomed desire. White musk, osmanthus, Nile lily and frankincense. In the bottle More bright and fruity than one would imagine. Thusfar this smells sort of like Blue moon meets..I dunno... Neo-Tokyo maybe a bit. The Lily, osmanthus, musk and frankincense blend together so well that the no one thing really sticks out as primary...yet. On Still smells the same as in the bottle (thank God). The lily and osmanthus are primary now. I can't pick out the frankincense nor the musk any longer. Very pretty blend, somewhat perfumey, and similar to an aquatic. There's a cucumbery mintiness to this underneath the perfuminess. 30 minutes The dry down is even better because it becomes a bit powdery, but this slight powderiness only adds to the loveliness of this white floral. Throw: Yes it does have more than average. Scent category: Floral/Animalistic/Incense Summary To me this doesn't smell like a incensey floral. It smells more bright white floral, aquatic blend. I'm not even able to pick an existing blend to compare it to. I would say a Jasmine Danube or Tulszcha but no, this is not getting at what it smells liek exactly. So pretty and different. I bet some would imagine Snow White to smell like this. It's that kind of scent. Greatest throw of the Lupercalia blends and the longest lasting of the bunch as well Purchase again? Yes. This is beautiful. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4.5

No lab description for this blend. In the bottle I didn't buy this for the scent, but for what it represents and for "working" with, so what a grand bonus that it smells absolutely divine. It's soft, feminine, floral foody, and minutely incense-y and mysterious. Like spiced vanilla or some kind of bakery goody kicked up with some spices. There may even be some anise in here but if so, it's not as strong as in other blends. It doesn't overpower the creamy goodness, it appends to it. This blend is so comforting and emits lots of feelings. When I close my eyes I can see a warm golden rose color. On It's ever so light in scent strength. Now it's somewhat floral, somewhat licorice-like, resinous, and maybe fruity. But not lemon kind of fruit, maybe fig. Yum. This is the weirdest thing. When I smell it in the bottle it smells like I said above, but on my skin, it almost disappears. I would actually wear this to my somewhat conservative workplace...it's that good in a light way. It also seems like a watery blend but doesn't have any of the typical salty, ozonish, tangy quality of the water blends. I cannot get my nose out of my wrist. 30 minutes It doesn't morph at all at 30 minutes dry. I can't believe the luck with this blend. It has some pretty good throw too. At 30 mintues Horus it's still mysterious, and ethereally beautiful. Bravo Beth. Throw: average Scent category: spicy/foody/incense/floral Summary It's lightly floral, foody; smelling of vanilla, with maybe some amber, some kind of spice or incense like frankinscense (it's not cinnamon) and maybe a drop of anise? And there's this sweet scent that familiar and comforting and it kind of hovers. The heavenly hovering note is fabulous but I can't place what the heck it is. It's so incredibly comforting and familiar yet I can't place it. I can't believe Horus has now become pretty much my #1 scent now. I think the Goddess is teaching me that good things come to those who wait because I had such a bad day today. Purchase again? Yes, without question. I think this is a scent that I would buy and wear all through my life (alternating with Noir). If it's possible I will be getting a 10ml when I run out. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 5

Use this blend to reignite passion and ardor in couples whose feelings for one another have waned through time and familiarity. In the bottle Oh my. This is orangey, and herbal, not sweet at all. There may be some frankincense or a Kephri like mix in here. Medium strong with the egyptian herbs but would be absolutely loved by the folks who like orange blends I think. Not too often get to smell orange with herbs much. It's a great combination. On This has some spice in it perhaps, as a handful of Beth's spices go straight to my tummy and start a warming process there. Cinnamon does that and pepper too. This isn't quite as strong as cinnamon nor pepper though, I'm not sure what it could be, some kind of camphor-like egyptian herbal. And a definite smokiness. 30 minutes The scent on my wrist is turning from bright and sparkly citrus to dark, smokey, herby and citrus. I am totally and utterly addicted to this. I must have huffed it deeply like 45-65 times now during this review. lol. Throw: average Scent category: Fruity/Herbal/Resin Summary Starts out bright and crystalline-pure and dries to a lovely, smoky, herby citrus. Purchase again? Yes, as a working oil because it is very much as if Isis herself has blessed the surroundings. I get a strong sense of calm. Tthat sounds kind of confusing but you know what I mean, a large presence, albeit a quietly powerful one...there's cleansing, loving, darkly feminine almost emotional energy. Definitely a divine energy. Okay, I guess I'm a glutton now, I selfishly put it on on another arm so I could smell it wet again and go through the whole process over again. This is a powerful blend and I do feel feel fortunate to have an opportunity to try a blend as divine feeling and orange smelling as this one. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4.5

5 Brumbjorn thank you so much for this sniffie of BPAL's Plum single note. BPAL blends which include Plum (vs. Asian Plum, Black Plum, White Plum, Wild Plum, etc) as one of it's ingredients: Noir, Fruit moon, Harvest Moon 2005, Midwinter's Eve, Bathseheba, Bordello, Megaera, Hanging Gardens, Yerevan. In the bottle Plum, dead on, clear and bright and lushious. On Oh man, this is good. It's fruity but sexy. This plum single note has got a musky quality to it and it's really great. 30 minutes Sweet mother of God this is so good. Same subtley spicey dark red fruity goodness. Throw: A big winner in the throw department. Yay. Scent category: Fruity Summary Omg this plum has it's own perfumey scent too, it's very natural though. I'm not trying to say it's fake smelling because it's not, but it's almost a tweaked hollywood version of a plum. In other words it's almost too good to be true. It's almost spicy and sexy with it's red purple fruitiness. It' almost as if one added a bit of perfuminess (just a blush), some musk, and some cinnamon. And that's how it smells just naturally. Great throw and great lasting power too. Wow. Purchase again? I wish. I would do a 10ml. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 5

4 No Lab description. Count Alessandro di Cagliostro was famous Italian magician and alchemist (1743-1795) In the bottle Deep mysterious smoke with a dark fruitiness. On It smells deep and sensual and smells truly like a gender nuetral blend. It's got alot of smokiness, sort of similar to Wildfire and there seems to be ginger and a teeny bit of civet, maybe some dark myrrh as well. It's lightly sweet, maybe from some sort of resin or a plum-like fruit? 30 minutes Hasn't strayed from it's original scent on my skin at all. It seems to have better than average staying power. Throw: a bit more than average Scent category: Incense/Resin/Fruity/Animalistic Summary This is a familiar smell, and addictive smell, a dark smell. The feeling of familiarity keeps me sniffing my wrists a ridiculous amount of times. It's got this smoke primarily, then it's subtley foody because of the plum or whatever frutiiness that is, and it's also incensey. Nice gothic scent. Purchase again? Yes. I've not smelled anything quite like this. It seems to have a "ritual work" vibe to it, which is nice. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4 ETA: Apparently I didn't wait till it was all the way dry. Now it is a more feminine powdery floral backing, still dark but with the smokiness gone. Very beautiful and this brings the rating to a new "4" from "3.5".

In the bottle Mmm, pretty, orange blossom and another white flower. A bit of sweet of foodiness underneath, fresh smelling. On Lovely orange blossom. Maybe lemon verbena. 30 minutes This is stil a nice, medium-strong citrus that doesn't lessen in intensity at 30 minutes. The foodiness that I smelled when wet isn't there now. The orange blossom scent has turned lemony. Throw: a bit more than average Scent category: Floral/Citrus Summary Handfasting is a lovely ancient Celtic wedding ritual (almost always Pagan or Wiccan) in which the bride's and groom's hands are tied together. TAL's "Handfasting" blend is fresh smelling and citrussy. It starts out a soft orange and turns into a more astringent, almost lemony citrus. Purchase again? Yes 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4 (I would like it more if it had a bit more floral)

4.5 BPAL blends which use Peony (vs. Wild Peony) as one of it's ingredients: Amsterdam, The Dormouse, Grandmother of Ghosts, Mi-Go Brain Canister. In the bottle A lighter, more soapy floral. Springlike and pure smelling. On Oh this is really really lovely. It's almost a rose scent. Not as heady more flat but similar. It reminds me of oh I dunno Two, Five & Seven maybe or something like Lucy's Kiss. 30 minutes Doesn't become more soapy on the dry down which is what I was iniiitally afraid of. Nope, it gets less soapy actually, and a titch sweeter. It winds up drying down to something more like "Amsterdam". I think my friend Cupide430 would like Beth's Peony SN. It smells exactly like fresh air and sunshine. Throw: more than average Scent category: Floral Summary It's a light fresh floral that has fair throw and lasts hours on my skin. It dries down to a medium light, subtley sweet, fresh airy floral. Purchase again? Yes. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4.5
-
In the bottle Spicy...cinnamon. On Be aware, if you have sensitive skin, do not wear this on your skin. Oh my , it smells like cinnamon and... chocolate? It smells sort of like chocolate. And it seems to have a vaguely cherry-ish or currant note somewhere. I hope I'm not just hungry. 30 minutes It still smells the same and is definitely working it's way on me. It's gives me a warm or even a hot feeling around me. Throw: a bit more than average Scent category: Spicy Summary It's a deep, spicy, rich scent. It has a mysterious feel to it, it feels like I'm in a place of great dark secrets and knowledge if that makes any sense. Purchase again? This is a deeper blend than any of the other TAL blends I've tried thusfar. Very spicy. 1-5 rating (5 being best) 4

It smells vaguely of pumpkin cheesecake. It's smells more of a real pumpkin scent that is mixed in with the cheesecake smell. It doesn't morph or turn into anything weird or bad on my skin. It has little throw not much. It's an alright blend, not one I would wear though. I like other bpal or bptp pumpkin blends more than this one. My nose gives this a 3
-
Wow this is really yummy and great smelling in the bottle. It reminds me of Midway. And it smells the same on my skin so far. It smells like cherry with another fruit. God this is good. My nose like this one most of the two Pumpkin Patch blends i've opened so far. God this is good. Now at 2 minutes it smells sort of like Lush's Creamy Candy bubble bar with some fruity and smokey undertones. In general I smell a broad subtley sweet pinkness. A yummy pink scent, not sickeningly sweet or anything like that. It's a foody scent but not as much as the Pumpkin Patch blends for instance. It's like a big cloud of pink with a slight fruitiness and a light to medium waft of toasted marshmellow. It does in fact smell like a pink marshmellow that has been toasted in a woodfire like when one is camping. It doesn't stay as strong as I'd like on the dry down. But it's a great scent. I'd wear it all season. I give this a 4.

Sugar-Slathered Candied Apple
UltraViolet replied to UberClaire's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
In the bottle it smells lightly of a boozy candied apple. heh heh On my skin now and it's absolutely great. Crisp red apple, cinnamon like that crunchy shell coating on Candy Apples. It smells just like a candy apple. It does have an amount of throw. And even the throw smells like a Candy Apple. It doesn't morph in anyway on my skin and it stays the same medium strong red apple scent with a sugary, cinnamon shell still now at 10 minutes. The apple is pure and prounounced, it doesn't become overwhelmed by the other ingredients. They all work together beautifully. I'd wear this all season. My nose gives this a 4. -
I opened all the pumpkin patch bottles and sniffed each one and then picked my two favorites to review first. Pumpkin Patch #1 was one of the two that I really liked the smell of when I sniffed it in the bottle. It's a full on buttery goodness that I get initially with a fruity but crisp scent underneath that. It gets better the longer it stays on my skin. Now it smells like caramel corn and that fruity clean scent underneath that. At 5 minutes. Now it's kind of "meh". If I were eating caramel corn (fresh, warm, home made caramel corn) with a glass of champagne, Pumpkin Patch #1 is what that would smell like. I'd give it a 3, I like it but not enough to wear it on a regular basis. If there were a blend with just the sparkly fruity undernotes of this, then I would wear it on a regular basis.

The Lurid library is a tad sweet, with prounounced musk, and that musty old "Library" smell. But not libraryish like Miskatonic U, it's more musky and perfumey, less coffee like and the old books smell, and the musty old library smell is more an underneath not, not a primary note to my nose. The scent lasts a long time. A medium amount of throw. It's not a shy scent. It wouldn't be a regular one I'd wear. My nose gives this a "3".
