    Greed

I like this one a lot; in fact, this is now my favorite patchouli scent that I've tried so far. It smells like a dark, soft patchouli with the warm powderiness of amber; maybe that's the copal. I don't know what heliotrope or oakmoss smells like, but this scent is faintly sweet and calm. If you like patchouli, you should definitely try this out.

    The Apothecary

I really like this one. It's light, green, and softly citrusy. It must be the ginger that's giving me the lemon note. I don't get any tea, but I think that I can pick up the grasses/herbs instead and the coolness of the fig in the background. This is a great unisex scent for hot weather. Although the scents that I gravitate towards smell, according to my sister, "like hippies," I'm also looking for refreshing ones, and The Apothecary is that. edit: I made this one into a spray, hoping that that would help it last longer. Unfortunately, that is not the case, so no big bottle of this for me. I'll enjoy my spray, however, even if it means reapplying a lot during the day.

    Black Phoenix

I wish the notes were listed for this one, since I have a hard time picking stuff out if I don't know what to look for, but I will try. First, this is definitely almond; Seraglio taught me that. Then, as it dries, it becomes spicy and incensy; maybe it's clove. Actually this is like a darker version of Seraglio, which I found to be rather cheerful. This is dark, warm, sexy, and smoky: definitely my kind of scent.

    Spellbound

This starts off with the lemon cake batter scent that I got from Haunted. As it dries, it smells like Haunted with roses. The roses are on the edge of being a sharp, perfumy rose that I don't care for, but they deepen as time passes. My hairless cat just jumped into my lap, and now she's pressing against me and rubbing her head on the arm on which I applied the oil more forcefully than she's ever done before. I don't know if this is her perfume stamp of approval or what. I like this scent but I wish it were darker. It feels like a special occasion perfume. I doubt I'll get a bottle but I'll keep my imp.

    Seraglio

First I thought that Seraglio was a strange name for a harem scent since it's Italian. Then I looked it up and found that it was a modification of the Turkish word for palace, saray. So there is a fun fact for you. When I first put this on, I smelled something like cookies. I guess that's the almond. That faded as it dried, and all the spices came out, backed by the orange and rose. This is decadent and exotic, but maybe a bit too heavy on the spices for me, or not dark enough, or something. I like it, but I don't love it (yet). I'll have to try it some more. Definitely keeping the imp though.

    Nefertiti

I usually don't like florals because they tend to feel wimpy or sting my nose, so I didn't have much hope for Nefertiti. When I put it on, it was definitely floral, but so cool and smooth. This is a very regal blend, dark and serene. I can get a hint of the woods underneath. If this one has good lasting power, I will probably cave and buy a big bottle.

    Ravenous

Patchouli and orange blossom sounded great to me, and while I did get both of those notes from this scent, there's also something dusty and medicinal here, perhaps the children's aspirin that other reviewers have noted. The dusty thing fades after a while, but so does the rest of the scent. Even if this had worked on me, it would probably be too sweet and happy for me, so Masquerade will be my orange patchouli scent.

    Belle Époque

This sounded great in its description, and similarly smelled that way in the vial. When I first put it on, it was a light floral with opium smoke and mandarin in the background. When it dried, unfortunately the lilies took over and turned the whole thing to soap. I already figured that I couldn't wear them since Kostnice acted the same way. This doesn't work on me, but if lilies work on your skin, you should try this one. It was beautiful before my skin wrecked it. edit: I tried putting some more on, and this time the other notes became more prominent and helped cover up the soap lily. I don't think this will ever be a big bottle, but if it stays like this, I'll keep my imp.

    Blood Rose

This is my favorite kind of rose, very full and smooth and sexy. The wine has been staying on me so far, which I am very happy about since it faded away instantly in Wanda. This scent is almost fruity, but it feels more grounded without being dark. I do wish it were darker, however. Maybe layering this with a bit of de Sade would work. I might get a big bottle of this.

    Hellfire

I wanted to try this once I discovered how great scents with tobacco are. This is a very classy and masculine scent. It's warm, sweet, and smoky, but with a pine sort of scent--I don't know where that's coming from though. I don't find the pine note offensive, however, since it's soft. While I like this a lot, I don't think I'll get a bottle of it. I already have Dracul on the way, which I prefer as a dark, smoky, masculine scent. I'll definitely keep the imp and make my boyfriend wear it.

    Rose Cross

Rose Cross smelled so good in the vial, but the roses went sour and soapy on my skin, and the frankincense seems to have fled. As it dries, I catch a whiff of olive oil. What's going on here? I guess I can only do certain roses. The roses in Kali, Wanda, and Magdalene have all been wonderful on me, but the ones in Othello, Zombi and now Rose Cross have gone weird. Too bad, this one did smell great when it wasn't on me. I love the idea of rose and frankincense together. Hm, maybe I can layer Anne Bonny and Black Rose... edit: I took a nap and when I woke up a few hours later and sniffed my hand, it smelled exactly like it should, but faint. Maybe this one needs to age a bit, since the aging thread says that rose and resins age well. I also just tried laying this with Anne Bonny, and it smells pretty good! edit again: I must've been having a stupid skin day when I first tried this. I tried it again today and now the roses smell good and it's a nice balance of the rose and frankincense. I don't like it enough for a big bottle, but now that it's doing what it's supposed to, I'll use up my imp.

    Haunted

Ooh, I love this one. It starts off like lemon incense, but the lemon note fades after a while. This is somewhat powdery but deep, like flour sprinkled over something dark and wet. It's very warm and smooth and thick, but slightly sweet and spicy. It doesn't smell like food but it definitely has an edible feel while still being dark, mysterious, and sexy. I think it would also be quite alluring on a man. I will probably get a big bottle of this one.

    Intrigue

At first, this smells great. I get chocolate and fig. Once the oil is dry, however, the chocolate vanishes completely and I'm left with just the fig. I like fig, but Intrigue turns into a rather boring version of Nemesis, which has a bit of spice due to the ginger. This also fades very quickly on me. I can barely smell it after just half an hour. I've tried it twice and it's done the same thing both times. It's a good scent on its own, but Nemesis definitely wins out over it for me.

    Tisiphone

This one is strange. I don't know what any of the flowers smell like, so I just get this sort of sharp sunscreen note, but then it dries into a creamy, buttery, powdery, peppery, sticky scent. I just reapplied some over the same spot, and now I can smell the patchouli more. I think I like this one.

    Sacred Whore of Babylon

Is there honey in this? I'm getting the same rancid smell that I get from honey blends. Something here smells burnt, not in a nice incense way, but in a burning plastic way. I wish I knew the ingredients for this one, because it definitely has something that I need to avoid. It smells so nice in the imp. Too bad it just doesn't work on me.

    Darkness

This is certainly bottled gloom. When I first put it on, I can smell the cool floral of the narcissus, which I don't really care for, so thankfully it fades away quickly. That makes the scent turn spicy, smoky, and weirdly hot-feeling, like I'm near something that's burning. This reminds me of Anathema without the fertilizer note. Apparently I'm getting a lot of opium out of this, since that's the common note between the two. I like it but it's also sort of disturbing. It is definitely a fancy evening scent. I would probably get a bottle of this if I were the soirée type of person.

    Kostnice

After Anne Bonny and Faustus, I thought that I had frankincense-amplifying skin. I barely get any of it from Kostnice; I only knew it was there when I read the description and sought it out on my skin. This scent is predominantly one of the two florals. I don't know what either of them smells like, but Kostnice is really soapy on me. After time, I can smell the frankincense and/or rosewood more. It smells better, warmer, and less soapy. Hm. I'll have to save my imp for now and test this again.

    Séance

A mysterious, enigmatic blend of dry, mellow rosewood, crushed rose leaf and the slightest touch of warm hazel. Huh. This smells just like Nemesis on me, without the initial evergreen note of cypress when it's first wet. This isn't bad, as I liked Nemesis enough to buy a bottle, but it's strange since they don't have any of the same notes. On careful sniffing, Séance is slightly woodier and warmer than Nemesis. Nemesis is longer lasting, however, so I'm glad I got the bottle of that. After a while, it gets warmer and darker, closer to what I imagined it would be like in the first place. It's very faint though, and close to gone. Maybe it would work as something to slather, or a nice room scent.

    Magdalene

I never would have tried this on my own, but I was offered an imp as part of a swap, so I thought that I might as well just go ahead and try it. First it starts as a sharp, sticky green note that almost like pine. This softens shortly thereafter and I can pick out the roses, which are slightly powdery but lovely. To me, this smells tranquil and sorrowful without being a cool scent. It's feminine and softly floral without feeling "girly" or old ladyish. It's not my kind of scent so I don't plan on getting a bottle, but it certainly is beautiful.

    Machu Picchu

This one morphs a lot on me. First I get an evergreen note and something sweet when it's wet. Then juicy and cool fruits come out on top, with something warmer, I'm guessing the amber, underneath. This is a very complex scent, but not overwhelmingly so. Instead of being too warm or too cool, too sweet or too tangy, too fruity or too floral, it combines a bit of each of those characteristics. After a while, it fades into a sort of metallic, blood-like scent which I'm not fond of, but I enjoyed it while it was fresh.

    Black Pearl

In the vial: Coconut Mr Bubble? Once it's on, the coconut vanishes. The hazelnuts are most prominent, but they smell burnt. Something here continues to smell like bubblebath or some kind of detergent. Maybe it's the white musk; this is my first white musk scent. After a while, the hazelnut and bubblebath blend together and calm down, and then it smells nice, but still somewhat "perfumey." The coconut never shows up again. I don't like the smell of hazelnut enough to keep this. If you know that coconut works on you, and you like hazelnut, then you should try this.

    Zombi

This starts out as an extremely sharp rose note that reminds me of hairdye. I get the feeling that it's the rose leaf doing that. I don't get much depth from this. After a bit, the sharpness tones down somewhat, and I think I can smell the dirt. The scent is starting to get better, but there's something here that smells like aftershave. Despite the roses, this becomes a masculine scent to my nose. If the sharpness went away completely, I would probably like this a lot more. I was really looking forward to Zombi, but I had pictured a calmer, darker, deeper scent. I hope that my forthcoming imp of Nosferatu will be the dirt scent for me.

    The Lion

I don't think that this is ferocious; it's too soft and lazy. It smells warm and comforting. However, the hay/oats/grass scent that I get from it isn't what I want in a perfume. For an amber scent, I think that I'll stick with Blood Amber. It's similar, but not as dry as The Lion.
  24. nineveh

    Anathema

This is a very dark scent. When I first put it on, I get a damp earth scent and something slightly smoky over the thickness of sweet honeysuckle. After a while, the earth smell fades, making it softer and somewhat lighter. I don't think that this will be a big bottle, but it's interesting and I like it.

    Sudha Segara

In the imp, this smells like lemon cake. When I put it on, all the sweetness disappears and I'm left with a sharp lemon smell that reminds me of Off or some mosquito spray. It's only been a few minutes, but the scent is almost entirely gone. All I get now is the sour, rancid note that honey gives me. I can see how this would be a lovely and fresh scent on someone who can wear honey, however.
