First wiff: Wow, dirty honey if there ever was such a thing. I am not sure I like this... Wet on: Honey and an "off" note that I am not sure I entirely like. I cannot get rid of the thought of having swiped vaginal juices on my wrist which is way too overtly sexual for me to wear . So, this must be the sex note that others have referred to. Dry down: The vanilla is peeking out now and mingles with the honey, I like it better now although the initial impact has left me feeling a bit meh. Overall: Sorry O, but you are just too obsessed with sex, take a cold shower will you? . I could never wear this scent in public either, it is way too intimidating for me.

First wiff: This smells like marzipan with a drop of honey, very sweet - this is definetly a candyish scent. Wet on: Still marzipan now with a flower note. The vanilla is also more prominent, pushing the honey slightly in the background. Dry down: Very sweet vanilla and incense, this certainly reminds me of the incense that was burned in some of the headshops I used to visit in Rome while I lived there - it makes me a bit "homesick" . Over all: This is an innocent smell if it makes any sense, no bite or edge to it, but very pretty. I may think it is a bit too rounded for my tastes but I bet it would be wonderful with some cinnamon .

Oh, Tezcatlipoca, how I have looked forward to thee! The first wiff from the bottle was not too promising however: In the vial: Smells like, uh, a dog's carpet! It actually smells exactly like our old dog's carpet, make me miss that dog terribly but it is not anything I want to smell like. Do I dare test it? Why, of course! On wet: Now we are talking... Sweet cocoa powder mixed with florals, oh this is lovely and exotic, so lovely and unusual. My boyfriend's comment was "it smells like woody incense". I do not get any incense, however. On the dry down: Ah, there is the incense - this is turning slightly headshop, but I like headshop and this is a gourmet incense for sure. The flowers are in the forefront, patchouli backing it up with a more prominent leather note. Oh, the leather is...incredible. Eventually, I am left with more or less leather and incense - this is pure gold, ladies and gentlemen. Overall: A big bottle, no questions asked! I only hope this will still behave as perfectly on my skin when I am not under the influence of, ahem, the dredded PMS .

Initially, this is very patchouli on me, and then it started to smell like Sin! A couple of minutes later: Now it settles into something woody with a hint of, oh dear bad breath... Please no, civet worked just fine for me in Black Annis . Oh, seriously, this is the first time an imp has gone bad on me, it smells like poop and bad breath, I am actually frigthened by this scent - I never thought this would happen to me ! Edited later: I bought Debauchery from a fellow forumite (thanks! ), because I really wanted to try it as civet works great in Black Annis for me - maybe it is just the combination of notes in Debauchery that do not correspond with my skin chemistry, very odd!

I bought this imp from a fellow forumite, thanks . In the vial: Strong lilacs and violets, it is the same violet I got from Saturnalia, only without the vetiver . Wet on skin: My sinusses just got a lilac/violet overload - I cannot smell anything right now! Two minutes later: Oooh, this is nice... I definetly smell the tuberose now and Nocturne is definetly becoming sweeter now as it dries - close to skin it is tuberose, but the waft is definetly lilacs, violets are in the background. Overall verdict: This actually morphs a little as it wafts, occationally tuberose, occationally lilacs and violets, but definetly mostly lilacs! I might probably edit this post after it has sat on my skin for some hours to see if it changes. Later: I have been wearing it for a couple of days now - basically. it dryes down to a sweet, slightly powdery purple floral on me - very pretty, but maybe I would like something with a bit more 'bite' on my skin - I am used to spicy perfumes so it might just be a case of adjusting to a new scent .

Oh yes, have you seen the current bidding price - it is around $US 56, I think - no way I could justify bidding on that , but I am sure it is divine! I just read the latest reviews of Sybaris and most people say it is a straight forward violet, like you guys just said - oh, dear, now I want some Sybaris . (Edited, because I can't spell)
-
I agree with everybody else here - Darkness IS blown out, spicy candles - I just bought 5 ml, because it is just that good .
-
That sounds very nice - I would never have thought of that combination myself, now I guess I must get some Penitence mmm!

I've already tried Saturnalia and it became more vetiver than violets, and I wanted violets with vetiver in the background rather than reverse . From the reviews of Faustus I think it might be more masculine than I'd like but then again, I love cinnamon so curiosity might get the better of me. I never really considered Ultraviolet because it contains mint and I am not a mint lover, but there does seem to be a lot of fondness for Ultraviolet on this board . Ah well, I definetly think I am going to try Nocturne, it really sounds lovely.

Black Annis was love at first wiff for me - I honestly think it is soo gorgeous (not the character Black Annis though ). It is a little hard to describe this scent but for me it spells very "tomboy", rough around the edges and feral - there is a lot of "natural instinct" going on here, sexual even, sexual and dark. Wiff from the vial: Anis! Lots of anis (I love anis), and something tangy, maybe that is the civet? Wet on: Yup, anis all the way, but subtle and sweet. Something dark and musty lurking in the background, ah it is just grreat ! It lasts most of the day on me which is always a big plus, and...hell, I have nothing bad to say about this one - I even get lots of compliments when I wear Black Annis .

I am currently trying to figure out which violet scent to order - First I went with Old Sybaris, but then I thought "no, this contains some chocolaty notes and I already put some chocolaty scents on my list to order" . Now, I am fluctuating between Marie and Nocturne, because they seem like the most mellow, feminine violets of the bunch based on the notes, but I am still uncertain which one to choose. I love lilacs, so I am biased towards Nocturne but then again Marie sounds lovely too. Any thoughts on the difference between these two scents?

This is such an intriguing scent, I wish more commercial upscale perfumes would smell like this! First, I get a wiff of something flowery, must be the narcissus, with something smokey, incensy underneath, yumm. At first, the narcissus is very compelling on my skin, but few seconds later this is just pure smokey incense bliss gently supported by the narcissus, which thankfully remains in the background. I am so in love with this scent it's uncanny . I agree with the other posters who compare this scent to blown out candles, and I tell you, this is one sophisticated smoking candle, wow! It lingers a really long time as well, it is one of those scents that wafts in the air around you, sorrounding you in a cloud of sweet smoke - I use this imp quite sparingly too. Must get more, lots more

Dried roses, rose leaf, Spanish moss, oakmoss and deep brown earth. There is something about this scent that is a bit *off*, maybe it's the rose, because it is so thin and dry. I really want to love this scent, but it is not really for me - the rose is just too dry, almost sour, and all I can smell on my skin is the rose . It is a very evocative scent though, I can easily picture a decadent, somewhat vain zombie wearing this and even though I cannot picture myself wearing this, there is something that draws me towards this scent, it's beautiful in a weird, musty way, melancholic and otherwordly.

This was a freebie imp from the lovely lab in my first order , and I must say that this is an instant favourite, seriously, it is absolutely divine . I am a sucker for cinnamon, and the combination of cinnamon and patchouli just knocks my socks off completely! All in all this is just a big bottle purchase for me - it is warm, swirly cinnamon & pachouli incense on me and it lingers in the air, very big hit with the boy as well .
-
Hmm, this is my first review ever, and I have actually had this imp for 2 months now, but I have been cautious about reviewing the lab oils as I am not very skilled in detecting single notes, but hopefully I will learn . In the vial: Very green and leafy with the violet lurking underneath. I am intrigued by this but I was hoping for more violet and less green though. Wet on skin: Very very green; seems like the kind of violets that would grow under an ancient oaktree, a bit foreboding and savage - a dark forest smell to me. Drydown: It does not really change that much on me; The violets seem to peek out a bit more, but still overall a very green, leafy scent. Overall, I have yet to decide if this is a big bottle as I like the idea of the violets mingled with the greens, but I miss something sweeter in this, it is very sharp. My boyfriend loathed this at first, but now he kind of likes it - he just begs me to be more moderate and not slather this scent as it penetrates the air like nobody's business. This does stick around which is a big plus! I put some drops in my tresses the other day and after I washed my hair, I could still detect Saturnalia, wow .

BPAL oils that repel bugs, flies, mosquitoes, bees, insects?
Dark Sparkle replied to Mrs.Black's topic in Recommendations
Actually, that just confirms to me that milky, honey-scents might be the culprit (and also hair products with something sweet-smelling in them) *L*, but then again, I guess it depends on how much you apply . I am going to check up on Embalming Fluid too, it sounds really nice! Dark Sparkle -
BPAL oils that repel bugs, flies, mosquitoes, bees, insects?
Dark Sparkle replied to Mrs.Black's topic in Recommendations
The thing is, I would really like to be able to wear some of my allready-favourites (I am currently putting a list of oils together for a massive order) like Black Annis, Sin, Darkness and Hamadryad plus my imp-list is mainly consisting of sweet smells. So, maybe I will have to include some more lemony, or lavender-ish scents for summer then . Dark Sparkle -
BPAL oils that repel bugs, flies, mosquitoes, bees, insects?
Dark Sparkle replied to Mrs.Black's topic in Recommendations
Hi all, This is one of my first posts by the way. I used the search function, but nothing really turned up specifically about this topic except for insect repellents. Anway, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with some of the oils attracting bees, wasps and other unwanted 'guests' in the summer, turning you in to a veritable beehive? I once had a honey-scented hairgel that made me a bug target, so naturally, I try to avoid too sweet smelling products in the summer. I was just wondering if there are anyone who have had a similar experience with the oils? Dark Sparkle, a clueless newbie!
