whoa! sweet! with a citrus edge. n.

i think Dee is the closest thing to Herr D. on the GC -- and both i can't wear on my skin. that parchment/book note does bad things on my skin. hooray for scent lockets though! i absolutely LOVE Perversion, its' very much about the tobacco. n.

i managed to swap a generous forumite for an imp of this. you know who you are, and i thank you from the bottome of my heart in the vial, it's all cocoa to my nose -- the same cocoa actually that is in Centzon Totochtin to my nose. i was surprised actually. as soon as it hit my skin the hot leather of DeSade and Spanked rose up, graced by the notes of when Storyville finally burned. i was travelling back in time, from now, through the fire, and into the decadent rooms of Storyville itself. the slap of hot leather on a john's back, the sweet musk of the new girl, vanilla in sweets sold in the street, and the boozy haze of bourbon and tobacco. utterly gorgeous. and very strong. two swipes of the wand, one on each wrist. i'm thrilled. i hope a NOLA line comes out as had been hinted at in earlier pre-moving times as an LE. if so, i'll be stocking up on Storyville. as it is, i'll cherish the imp i've got. n.

the scent locket has been the best purchase. its saving so many scents for me that i couldn't wear before (Luperci, i'm looking at you here). n.

saffron is my favorite spice, and i've yet to find a blend that smells like it on me. so, i swapped for Underpants hoping and praying. in the bottle it was all rummy cake. YUM. on me it was soap. sandlewood soap. n.

i just had a sudden realization for Cathla. for the stuff that morphs a lot on your skin, but has that earth scnet you like, you should think about a scent locket. i just got one and LOVE it. i'm able to wear Luperci finally, which turns to bad B/O on me (it's the cedar) but stays just warm and gorgeous in teh locket. i have a tendency to make earth notes flee, which is usally OK, but if i wanted to smell like those notes, i'd have to use the locket. Destroying angel is earth for an hour on me, and then it goes to clean linen. but in the locket, i think it would stay pretty earthy. good luck n.

dark moist loam. the rain hits the leaves of the trees above, and slowly drips in great globules down to the ground below. darkness. the crust moves, and the most blinding white mushroom begins to break through the top crust of living earth. thick scent of mushroom, and the rich soil that clings to it. the scene fades to one of fresh white linens on a newly made bed. n.

i havent' tried it on my skin yet, but Destroying Angel smelled VERY dirt (with a touch of mossiness) in the imp. n.

on me, there's no cocoa, no cassia. on me, this Monster Bait is ALL buttery yellow cake topped with buttercream frosting. and it's STRONG. i tested it on the back of my hand on a whim, taking just a drop of it on the end of a clean toothpick and smearing it on. i had just slathered on a bunch of Snake Oil prior to that at all my pulse points, and Underbed SLAYED the Snake Oil. it was all i could smell! i must have slaughtered a bunch of folks on the train this morning! about 1 hour in, Underbed turned very plastic-y. i began to despair, but after another hour it faded and i was back in the Yellow Cake (not Uranium!) Bakery now, at the end of the day, i am left with the clinging scent of caramel & Sugar Skull Brown Sugar clinging to the back of my hand. this scent is incredible fun! n.

i'm a HUGE fan of Beaver Moon -- in fact, Beaver Moon made me love the foody/sweet/bakery scent category. and indeed: opening this bottle i can smell the cake of Beaver Moon, drizzled in some kind of rich whisky type alchohol and topped with berries. sadly for me though, my skin makes the berries go all cough syrupy. well -- someone will be happy to get this in a swap of some kind. *pout* n.

i'm lucky in that i am one of those who can actually wear civet. that said, there really is only a "drop" of civet in this blend. i can't smell it at all, either in the bottle, or on my skin. this starts out as a clean green scent with a masculine edge to it -- somewhat commandings, and very firm. it softens as time goes by into a powdery and gentle floral. the sage and civet serve to anchor the iris to my skin. this one really is all about the iris. a teeny weeny dab'l do ya, i think. if you like iris, you really ought to get this blend. there's nothing to be scared of! n.

incense. my nose is too unsophisticated to smell the difference between this & Cathedral, or this & Midnight Mass, or this & any other churchy incense perfume. then again, it tends not be my "thing". i keep thinking it will be, but it never is. this will go to a new home to someone who can appreciate it! n.

on me: this is Zombi, but with Orchid instead of Rose. the cypress and cedar behave themselves -- this is the first blend with those two notes where i don't amp them to destroy everything else. humid loam, this makes me want to dig. it fades quick to a light orchid -- refreshing -- with traces of dirt underneath. the BF smells great in this as usual. my bottle is now his. not that i mind n.

Clean and pure. I hesitate to say even that, because it gives a sense that perhaps this is soapy, and it's not. But it's not anyhthing I can describe either. This isn't gender neutral -- but androgynous instead. It's cool, almost cold. It's got something in ti that reminds me of Snow White -- like a masculine Snow White, if you can follow that. Where Snow White is "creamy", Berenice is "watery". its very lovely. if you're an aquatics lover, i think you'll enjoy this one very much. as for me, there is only one aquatic i like on me enough to wear, and even that fades fast and furiously. though interestingly enough, it's another Poe scent, the City in the Sea (way saltier than this, and with the bruised violets and seaweed. mmmmm). but, back to the review, there's no similarity between these two scents. now i'm just babbling because i'm overtired. if you like aquatic-types scents, give this baby a try n.

like most berry scents, this one is Jolly Rancher sweet on me, though this happens to be an evil Jolly Rancher. At least it starts out that way. Lurking beneath the surface, I get a sense of the bitter part of that orange mentioned and some of the oak -- which i think may be the thing that makes Montressor goe all cough syrup on me. will try again, but i don't have high hopes. n.

repost from my lost review of the Great Crash of '06. sadly, this has a weird funky smell to my nose in the vial (a vile vial?) -- very much like the musty and somewhat moldy lees that cognac is distilled from. all fine and good, but it doesn't drop back on my skin. well, it drops back but only to reveal a distinct urine note. Rose Red did something similar, and i wonder if it is that -- whatever "that" is -- that is causing the badness here. n.

reposting from the Crash of '06. if it's a double, i apologize! furthermore, it's from my excel notes. strangely medicinal. Like cherry cough syrup. Yes, that's it! Cherry cough syrup. I wonder if it will calm down with time? n.

OH! Black pepper that doesn't go dusty. Starts of thick and Lenore like, and then turns into warm spices that don't go plastic! At the end of the day I am left with a cocoa that's not foody, and for some reason bears the faintest traces of doeskin leather. Just lovely, and very.... thudding. like a heart. tha THUMP tha THUMP tha THUMP n.

On me, this begins with horrors, the scent of a burnt chamber. How strange! It begins to brighten up, retreating from that chamber of horrors and into what the BF called "A Magic Shop", and then further back and further back, until it became something else all together, but i am having a hard time describing it. it's dark and it's tart. it is somewhat reminicent of Lampades, but different too. drydown fades to something similar to the TellTale Heart, kind of cocoa like, but more powdery and no doeskin. i think i like TTH more than this. n.

well, this one really is a morpher. in the bottle, teh Smut was soft and pretty -- lightly sweet with the slightest hint of cognac in the background. i put it on and WHAM! it got WEIRD and LOUD. it was sweaty! then it was drunk and slightly nauseus! then it was all sugary! then kind of spicy -- no, sweaty again.... and then 15 minutes in it just settled right down. it became this soft skin scent. as i wear it shifts around from amped skin musk, to cognac, to a touch of sweetness on a plate, and then back to skin. it is extremely reminiscent of Sed Non Satiata to me, but way less spicy. SNS to me is like fucking, this is seduction. on me its sexual, and yet... innocent at the same time. sex before sin. sensual with knowing, but... open hearted. not cruel -- but not vanilla either. SNS has a cruel edge to it that i find hot -- this is more loving, while still being hot and delicious. i LOVE it. and i cannot believe that it works even on my whacked out skin chemistry! i usually turn everythign to baby powder, but not this. those who couldn't wear Devil's Night, rejoyce! your time has come! ETA: i put this on at about 8 p.m. last night, and could still smell it against my skin at 10 a.m. this morning. this is a scent that lasts. ETA2: WARNING! WARNING! i wore Smut outside the house for the first time on Saturday night. i went to party. it was supposed to be a regular party, maybe some smooching was going to happen. it turned into a 100% Sex Party. not that i minded. but i think i won't be wearing Smut to the office! n.

i've been betrayed! betrayed by the tyranny of my own skin! in the bottle this is so soft, far softer than you'd imagine from the notes listed. sensual, and skin like, slightly sweet -- the beeswax, and woodsy. sooo gorgeous. however, there must be some cedar or cypress in here, because on me it goes to 100% cedar and stays there. and on me, cedar is somewhat bad-sweat. to be fair, it's a bit sweeter and nicer than most cedars, but still mostly all cedar. my heart is broken! *however*, i am going to try it out in my oil burner, as it's just SO lovely. i am also going to give my 2nd bottle to my BF, who can wear just about any BPAL and it doesn't morph on his skin. those of you lucky enough to wear this gorgeous scent: i am jealous! it's really gorgeous, and i think it will age really beautifully. ETA: this is just GORGEOUS in the oil burner. now i'll have to get a scent locket i guess i'm just glad there's a way for me to enjoy this one, even if i can't wear it! n.

MINT. Followed by MINT with a faint floral sweetness. It reminds me of Annabel Lee, actually! n.

Deep herbs and apple with black amber. There's something so buttery in this. It's really weird... under that, the apple. Crisp and fresh. This is odd, and somewhat disturbing, actually.,,, and then the disturbing stuff fades, leaving a bright crispe apple! Practically juicy! Hmmm. A possible bottle may be in order as it actually smells like i always hoped Samhain would. n.

somewhat like Wanda, some notes similar, but on me the Black Musk isn't noticible at all, and this is all syrupy sweetness. Too sweet for my blood! n.
