Cherry Cream Pie Chypre
splendidissima replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Gifts with Donation or Purchase
Sweet gooey cherry pie filling! Sugared and gloopy and spilling out. As it dries, that buttery pie crust note emerges - not loudly, just enough to be there. This is delicious, and I would absolutely buy a bottle!- 21 replies

Like a couple other people've said, this is a surprise hit for me! I wanted more orange-type scents, and after I ended up loving Marshmallow Snow so much, I wanted more of the Lab's ice and snow note. This is really, really pretty - a sweet juicy mandarin orange, with just a touch of chilly frost, like eating an orange outside on an icy day. Nice throw, as well - this one's a big scent on my skin! I'm so glad I came back and got a bottle. 🙂

Sweet sugary pastry and bright red tart fruit! I love all the Sufganiyot scents, and this one is delicious - maybe slightly more tart than some previous Sufs (Blueberry is still my favorite), but that's balanced out by the sugar, and this is just a delight - it makes me smile. Awesome Husband (without being told what scent): "Sweet jelly donut!" 😃

Some of the reviews were making me nervous, but I love sweet mint notes, so I ordered this one - and I'm so glad I did! It starts out as that pure slushy chilly snow note - but that's fun, because I'm not sure I have anything else quite like it! As it dries, a soft sweetness comes out, like vanilla clouds in the icy forest. It's so pretty and different, and I find myself reaching for it a lot! Awesome Husband said, "chilly floral?" and I hadn't thought I was getting any floral notes, but maybe he's picking up the same suggestion of white florals that fairybites was mentioning, up above!

Lush and rich and nutty! This one's strong and heavy on me - lots of nuts, lots of molasses, and a dark chewy gingerbread dipped in honey. I like it, but it's definitely a scent for cooler weather - it's starting to get hotter here, and this Wolfman can be a little overwhelming in the heat! But it'll be fantastic for autumn/winter. Awesome Husband: "you smell like some sort of holiday baking!" I'll take that. 🙂

A free bottle from the Lab! 😍 Dead Leaves can have that cologne-y note on me, but I like sweet and I like maple, so I'm intrigued! On: ooh, that's maple sugar! Like a maple sugar candy. After a few minutes, it's still very maple sugar heavy - that's the forefront! But something else is coming out - I don't know that I would have guessed that it was Dead Leaves without knowing it, though! Like other people've said, it's something very autumnal - like the scent you'd get walking through a forest, or a thickly wooded tree-lane, in the fall. It's plantlike/earthy/rich dark browns and greens. But it actually *doesn't* seem to be doing the DL men's cologne note on me, which I expected it to, so I am excited! It's both strong and long-lasting - I think I accidentally got some on the sleeve of my sweater, and now it's just wafting up all around me every time I move. Awesome Husband's comment when asked: "something sort of dark and sweet? not bad." 😄

2020 version! So, there's this local bakery where I live that does a brown sugar oatmeal cookie...and I swear this is exactly that. It's brown sugar, caramel chips, butter, and warmth like you get around the edges of very sugary cookies that've baked *just* up to the edge of burnt but not quite, so it's dark hot sweet sugar. I actually really like it, it's snug and cozy and beautiful in cold weather, but it is *not at all* a light fluffy sugar cookie on me - it's the opposite, deep and rich and decadent and brown-gold. I don't really get cinnamon, but I think it may just be getting swirled into the general dark caramelized cookie-heat.

For the 2020 Winter release! This goes on as a sour / spicy / prune scent, and I was a little worried - thick spice and sourness! But then it dried down into something really very nice - the rice pudding ran up to the forefront, and the spices backed off, and it became this neatly well-balanced rhythm of a warm creamy rice pudding, some dark purple fruit, and holiday spices. It's not boozy as such; I don't know what happened to the mead! I would eat or drink this, though maybe not too much of it, because it's a lot of layers of richness: rice pudding, dark fruit, spices.

For the 2020 Winter release! It's very buttery and creamy and a note that's almost maple syrup, or maybe molasses! It's almost...not...that much...rum...? It's sweet and thick and rich and warm, and I like it, especially because it's been so cold here lately! Sadly, my skin just eats this, I don't know why. It billows up in a big decadent cloud when first applied - under ten minutes later (I know because we were watching a YouTube video that was 9 minutes and some seconds), I literally could not find it on my wrist. If I sniff really closely there might be some faint warm spice, but that might be wishful thinking. Where, where, has the rum gone, to paraphrase a line...? Awesome Husband said it was "heavy and boozy," which isn't necessarily a negative, but apparently he gets the rum much more than I do!

It's bright and effervescent and billowing! As other reviews have said, it's a fizzy twinkly ginger ale and champagne - I don't really get gingerbread, so much as happy excited ginger sparkles! The sugar adds sweetness, and it makes me think of New Year's Eve parties and drinks and celebrations. Huge throw on me, though it did fade quickly.

Like doomsday_disco mentioned, there's something in here - the baked apple, most likely! - that immediately made me think of Lambs-Wool, which I love (and have two bottles of, from different years). This doesn't have cream or ale notes, but it has tons of spiced apple and brown sugar notes, and a warm rich oatmeal base. I'm not sure I get cookies as such, but I don't mind - it's delicious and I want to nibble my arm!

Oh, this is fun! Apples, ginger, pumpkin, and brightness from the lemon! I love pumpkin and apple scents, and I knew I wanted this, and it's just lovely. It doesn't seem to change much from wet to dry, though it became a very close-to-the-skin scent after a few minutes.

It's actually a drier sort of scent than I expected! On wet, it's sweet mint and ginger; after a few minutes, it becomes more gingerbread-forward, and the mint's a faint haze in the background, with some cocoa. It's a nice dessert, though - unexpectedly - I think I like a couple of the other Monsters better - more thick and chewy, whereas this is gingerbread spice and a flutter of mint. Fairly low throw, but it does linger!

Pulled out the old partial (very low) bottle I'd got as a freebie from a lovely forumite years ago! On me, it's a soft perfumy powdery floral! It's not my usual (I tend to like fruit or nutty or minty), but it's pleasant. Awesome Husband's comment: you smell like...an expensive spa. Like, a nice luxury kind of spa where you've relaxed all day. And also baby powder.
-
Peppermint!...which fades quickly to a sweet lightly minty vanilla. I'd agree that it's more vanilla that the couple previous Lick It's I've tried, and it seems to fade fast - but if you like mint and vanilla sugar, you'll like this! Awesome Husband just shrugged and said, "Minty!" 😀
-
When we were little, my grandma used to give us a dessert that was just freshly cut-up strawberries with a dusting of sugar - this is that! Sweet juicy sugared strawberries. I love it. Awesome Husband: ...strawberry juice?...strawberry Capri Sun!
-
It's *mostly* orange cream on me - which I love! - and then there's...something else, something that I can only describe as...grey? That's the word that comes to mind: something dry and grey and skitterish and sharp? I normally like brighter pepper notes (love love love Hermia and Pepper), but something about this is...almost cobwebby? But that's not a bad thing, exactly! It's darker and sharper and more complicated. It's like...Bilbo Baggins eating an orange cream cake and then fighting spiders in Mirkwood, and he wins, but he's still had that experience, y'know? And that makes it all more mature and deeper. Awesome Husband, when asked to sniff: "...orange...and...meh. Something. Orange cream, sort of?"

Porridge - a thick heavy sort of porridge, and heavily spiced! I'm a medievalist, so I had to acquire this. 🙂 I *think* I like it, though I think of breakfast - a big hearty stick-to-your-ribs bowl of filling wheat and a splash of cream, and in this case with a *lot* of cinnamon and nutmeg and ginger! I don't get the ale at all, or the currant. I'm glad I've got a (mostly full) bottle, though I think it'll be a cold-weather scent only - I can't imagine wearing this on an already hot day, but it'd be lovely on a chilly rainy morning! Awesome Husband: *sniff* *pause* *sniff* *long pause*...I don't know. I am unsure about this. It's food.
-
Dug this out and retested it! Gingerbread and pink pepper, mostly - it's not very sweet on me, but peppery/spicy - which I like! Fantastic throw; after about three hours, mostly faded, but present if I put my nose right up to my wrist and sniff. Awesome Husband comment: "Smells like gingersnaps!"
-
It's a Fudgesicle! A chilly frostbitten one, with a lot of ice on the chocolate! Good throw and long-lasting - it doesn't seem to change much on me, maybe a touch more chocolate-y over time. I find myself reaching for this one a lot - I'll be looking at my little cluster of recent purchases and trying to decide, and then I'll end up picking up Cold Moon again! There's something about it that makes me want to keep wearing it. (Awesome Husband's comment: "chocolate, but not like the usual BPAL chocolate. kinda chilly.")

Dead Leaves, Marshmallow, and Pistachio Cream
splendidissima replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Halloweenie
I really wanted to love this, and I'm so confused by it! It's my first Dead Leaves (I've been nervous about the DL note going cologne-y), and I do absolutely get sweet nutty marshmallow clouds...but under that is a waft of cologne that reads as very old-fashioned to me! I don't hate it, but it feels like it's clashing with the lovely pistachio fluff, and I'm not sure I want that note on *me*. Maybe something for Awesome Husband? (Awesome Husband comment: "meh. it's fine. kinda weird, not bad." So...whatever that means?)- 28 replies

Mostly cinnamon - it's a cinnamon pastry! Not much pumpkin spice that I can find - which makes me a bit sad, because I love pumpkin! It does fade quickly on me, though it's a nice cinnamon pastry for a little while. (Awesome Husband: "you smell like cinnamon! I like cinnamon.")
-
This is very light and bright and sparkling on me! If it were a color, I'd say a fizzy pale violet - the blackcurrant is there, but lightened and lifted up by the white cognac! The lime is tart and helps brighten it even more.
-
I would never have picked this up based on the notes (pine? cedar? tomato leaf?) but I am so glad it turned up with my order. The Jersey Devil must love berries, because that's the dominant note here: juicy, tart-sweet cranberries and blackberries, bursting all over the place. There's a dark green note in the back that is somehow also juicy--the tomato leaf? (I have no idea what tomato leaf smells like on its own, but if that's it, sign me up for a veggie garden.) The woods are very distant on me after dry-down, and much more pine than cedar--I can see the hint of Christmas-ness, but very faint. It's like the anticipation of the holidays, rather than the holidays themselves. But still mostly berries. (Color-wise: dark berry wine with dark green touches.) Me: what do you think of this one? Fiance: *sniff* pause *sniff* ...I don't know. I'm confused.

Sweet cinnamon pumpkin! Like a concentrated version of the Bath & Body Works Cinnamon Pumpkin body spray (which I do like, but still, one can have too much). No blackberry at all, and maybe just a hint of extra sweetness from the candyfloss--but not blue at all, as it's defeated by the cinnamon. Sadness. While I certainly don't mind pumpkin, I was hoping that this would be more special. but it did just arrive, so I'll retest in a few days and see.
