    All In The Golden Afternoon

I guess I would have a golden afternoon wearing this if my idea of a golden afternoon consisted of fizzy detergent; but, it doesn't.

    Danse Macabre

First on: pine, jupiter - must be the cypress. I really slathered, but it faded away to a soft, slightly sweet scent within an hour. Nothing macabre about this, to my sorrow.

    The Sluggard

Way too sweet and oily. Fortunately, it fades quickly.

    White Rabbit

For the few minutes I could smell it until it immediately faded away, White Rabbit was ginger and milk on me, with a slight undercurrent of something much too sweet with a hard edge. Not my thing.

    Phoenix Steamworks

In imp, and on, wet: deep, complex metal. Love this stage. Within 15 minutes: settles into a soft, slightly sweet skin scent. Then, 30 minutes later: all gone.

    Queen of Sheba

Gack! Horrible - this smells like some sort of moldy grain cooked in rancid butter - I'm on the verge of nausea. I'm going to hang on for the drydown, because the comments suggest this is quite a morpher. Okay, it morphed into wind blowing through a barn filled with moldy hay. Her highness and I must agree to disagree.

    Golden Priapus

I love rosewood, amber, and vanilla. I like pine very much. Juniper and I don't get along. Guess which one I amp when I apply GP? Yep, juniper with just a hint of amber. No good.

    Imperious Tiger-Lily

Very sharp lily which dries down to funeral-home lilies. My skin hates lilies.

    Moon Rose

Smells magical in the imp, but my weird skin chemistry turns it into something alternately harsh/bad kind of sweet. Worthy of a scent locket.

    Hetairae

After applying liberally from the imp several times, only to have it quickly fade to nothing, I slathered with 1/3 of the imp. Same deal - after 30 minutes I had to huff my skin to get even the faintest whiff. It seems like I would love it from those huffs, but I practically have to hyperventilate to smell it.

    To a Woman

I tried this before I read the notes, and was amazed it contained rose. I normally amp rose to the high heavens, but something is reining the rose in, and it becomes an awesome blend that I can't begin to describe. Definitely bottle-worthy.

    Long-lasting banana BPAL?

First on, wet, I didn't get any banana from Scherezade, but when it dried, banana was the strongest note. YMMV.

    Brisingamen

This is all amber, all the time, which is fine by me as amber and I have a little love affair going on. I probably won't get a bottle, though, because it fades much too quickly.

    The Queen of Hearts

The listed notes sounded pretty innocuous, but Queen of Hearts+my skin chemistry=horrifically vile scent.

    Alice's Evidence

I'm so glad I tried this in cool weather; I'm sure I wouldn't be nearly as enamored of it in the summer. A dead ringer for Christmas - I'm amazed at how one whiff evokes a startingly clear, bright, colorful memory of Christmas with my family as a little girl, and the happy, safe way I felt then. I think a bottle is in my future.

    Vasilissa

Wow,this does smell pink. Spot on, actually. There's a weird undertone of something, maybe the star jasmine, that doesn't like my skin chemistry. It reminds me of Ysatis, a commercial perfume I really dislike. Oh, well, on to the next imp!
  17. melrose

    The Mock Turtle's Lessons

In imp, overwhelmingly sugary sweet. First on: vodka or gin with a sweet undertone. This is nice, also intriguing. It faded before it could develop further.

    Pannychis

Lovely at first, sweet motor oil, but faded completely within 15 minutes.

    How Doth the Little Crocodile

On, wet: fantastic chocolate, not too sweet. Almost immediately the mint comes out - York Peppermint Patty! OMG, it's getting better; the vanilla is now the strongest note, with the chocolate, mint, and something woody riding underneath. What happened? It disappeared after 30 minutes. Still, could be slather-worthy.

    Mouse's Long and Sad Tale

First on, wet: super-sweet candy. Uh-oh. Drydown: Amber and vanilla fight valiantly to emerge, but the other notes put on the smackdown. Not for me.

    Salomé

Jezebel and I didn't get along, but Salome and I are in love. First on, jasmine and smoke. The jasmine doesn't overwhelm. Drydown is hard to describe, but these notes blend into a note that is smoky, spicy, every-so-slightly sweet, and right up my alley.
  22. melrose

    Jezebel

I think I get along with all 4 scent components, so am hopeful. First on, way too sweet. Drydown comes quickly: one-note honey. Nope, not for me.
  23. melrose

    Rocking-Horse-Fly

As if I had just opened an attic window in a house where spices are stored deep in the woods. If only it had lasting power . . .
  24. melrose

    Vixen

It is similar to Snake Oil, but where Snake Oil's components blended seamlessly into something magic, in Vixen the orange blossom rides above the other notes, which are a bit flat-smelling. I still love it though, but it lasted only slightly longer than Snake Oil on me. So that's 2 very upsetting BPAL experiences in a row. I'm sulking.

    Snake Oil

All you BPALers who say this is strong and/or has great staying power, I HATE YOU! Im imp, and on, wet, this is a Holy Grail fragrance - I was beyond excited. It never got to even the near-drydown stage. I slathered, but my skin ate it up. This is the most upsetting BPAL experience I've had to date.
